Gargs Clans: And we still have the relatively anonymous clans in Korea, China, and Loch Ness. I won't the NO clan because they wouldn't come to light until after the New Olympians choose to reveal themselves.

The Avalon clan's reaction to what's going on in the 'real world' would be very interesting to see, and that could be easily worked into a revived show.

But I would like to see each of the different clans have very different and unique (and often contrary) viewpoints on humans and dealing with them.

JJ: Probably the same reason why nobody has posted about Terry Schiavo finally passing away.

At any rate, I finally scored a copy of Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars on friday! :) However, I noticed that they still have Gargoyles on the shelf! So, those of you still without a copy, hit Best Buy!

Humans hating gargoyles>> That's why I wanted a new present-day series to focus on London. The London gargoyles have, due to their centuries as shopkeepers, some *small* amount of good will from their humans neighbors yet are not as beloved as the Ishamura gargoyles by any means. The situation is ripe for interesting drama, unlike in Manhattan, whose humans, generally speaking, only have reason to distrust gargoyles. Manhattan won't become interesting to me for several decades, I'm afraid.

Pope John Paul II>> I'm not sure what is more striking: that Leo brought up the Pope's death, or that no-one afterwards has commented on it. :-/

I think that if "Gargoyles" were to come back as "Gargoyles" rather than as a spin-off with a new set of regulars, the episodes would have to focus on Goliath's clan more than on the other clans, and that any episodes concentrating on other gargoyle clans would still need to get at least one of the Manhattan gargoyles involved fairly prominently. (Much of the reason why I say this is that I usually don't like it when an episode in an animated series - or even a live-action series - pushes the regulars to one side and gives them little more than a walk-on role. There are, of course, a couple of exceptions, such as "City of Stone" in "Gargoyles", or that episode in "The X-Files" dealing with Cancerman's background.)

I'm torn on the issue of how much "humans vs. gargoyles" I'd want to see in the series if it were to be revived. On the one hand, it was an important element of the original series, and it would have to be addressed. On the other hand, the disadvantage of having almost all the humans hating and fearing gargoyles (with a few exceptions such as Elisa) is that it could wind up alienating the audience to such an extent that many of them might wind up wanting something nasty to happen to the human race in the Gargoyles Universe - with, of course, Elisa and the other pro-gargoyle humans being spared, but all the rest of them, whether the ones engaged in outright violent opposition such as Castaway and the Quarrymen, or more subtle hostility, such as Margot Yale, being wiped out. (I've mentioned this before, but one potential problem with "Dark Ages" that I've sometimes thought about is that you'd have to show the humans at Castle Wyvern - with a couple of exceptions, such as Prince Malcolm and the Captain - constantly snubbing the gargoyles, no matter how often the gargoyles save the castle, for 23 years - by the end of which there'd probably be some people in the audience who'd feel tempted to stand up and cheer when Demona and the Captain finally decide to betray Princess Katharine and her people to the Vikings.)

Patrick> If such episodes were to be created, it would be one shot episodes, standalones, if you will. With the exception of the London Clan being involved with the "Pendragon" series, the other clans would get a single ep where the repercussions of "Hunter's Moon" and "The Journey" affected them. Such episodes I could only see being used as a break between major storylines, something to break the routine of "protect the city". In a way, "The Journey" is such an episode, as while Goliath and Elisa are fleeing the Quarrymen, MacBeth and Margot are debating on the news. Unlike the rest of TGC, which had a political undertone throughout (i.e. the Mayor race ep, the Illuminati ep, and the series finale), episodes like the ones I thought of are just something to insert as a change of pace, that has no direct influence on the Manhattan clan, but does have influence on Gargoyles as a whole. It could eventually build up into something like what I read in TGS, the Gargoyle Council/Nation.

If "Gargoyles" resumed, I'm thinking I'd be bored really quickly by stories that focus on politics and relied on coming back at the end to show the clan watching the news and reacting as a way of bridging things together. "Gargoyles" was always about action, not reaction. I'd want to see stories focussed on the characters, not the grindings of the human political machine. If I want to see that, I can just turn on CNN or C-SPAN.

Let's do the time warp again! Remember to turn your clocks ahead tonight for Daylight Savings Time. Unless you live in Indiana, Arizona, or Hawaii... or you're Amish. Though if the latter's the case, I should also add... what on earth are you doing on the internet? Don't you have some butter that needs churning? :P

*lurks room* I fell victim to murphy's law.
almost two months ago somebody broke into my baracks room and stole my laptop, cd's and dvd's by climbing in my bedroom window. Luckly for me I had my stuff locked up. I reported it of course and almost a 1 1/2 month later the army gave me money for it. That's the good news. The bad news was that I know that some of my dvd's and cd's will be hard and may be impossible to replace. So I have to start from scratch. And the latest fanfic I was working on is gone. All 18 pages of it. I should of backed it up...(D'oh!!!).An important lesson for us all. Well at least the new laptop I have now is better than my old one....
Now I can finally order that Gargoyles DVD....
And keep it in a safety deposit box...

JJ Gregarius> While the London clan may have more experience dealing with humans, in the Gargoyles Universe, it's the Manhattan clan that's gotten all the media exposure, and is more likely to be the focus, politically, of human/gargoyle relations.

As the rest of the world gets involved in the politics of "gargoyle rights", public knowledge of the other clans encountered in the World Tour, as well as others that would/could come forward. This could have repercussions that add even greater depth to the Gargoyles Saga. Here are some examples of potential repercussions of "Hunter's Moon" and "The Journey":

London Clan: As a result of the Hunters exposing the existence of gargoyles to the world, some ambitious British Gov't official (think someone greasy and unscrupulous) may attempt to seize the clan's Magic Shop and its contents under the pretense as a measure of maintaining order, and under the legal pretense that as not being human, the Clan cannot own property. As a result, this official activates some dangerous magical artifact, that the Clan has to rectify, starting the process of being given equal rights by the British Gov't. I see this as a Pendragon episode(s) which would include Griff and Arthur, perhaps as a 1st season episode.

Guatemala(sp?): Though Reynard pulled out, the constant problem of clearcutting creates a eco-war with the local media discovering the existence of the clan and exposing their existence as gargoyles rather than the local superstition. This could create two sides: environmentalists siding with the gargoyles and the clearcutters working with one of the villains established or a new one. The only established villain I can think of without repeating the Green is Wolf, under the thinking that the clearcutters fight 'an animal with an animal'. The only way I can think of a plot is that there is a deadly plague sweeping through a village that could spread to the rest of South America, and only a rare plant rumored to exist in the Clan's territory can cure it. Unfortunately, the only place for the plant is in the path of clearcutters, and the Clan is fighting a losing battle. The aftermath provides a media double hit for both the Gargoyles and the environment.

Ishimura: Taro attempts to cash in on the exposure of gargoyles existence by promoting tourism in the town. The Clan is suspicious of the other townspeople going along with it and find that Taro has the aid of the Yakuza to manipulate the townspeople into complying through either chemical/hypnotic means. The aftermath results in the Yakuza leaving, but the fact that Ishimura has been exposed creates, strangely enough, widespread acceptance by Japan (Metropoolitan Japan is a fad culture, and local gargoyles are a BIG fad), and affects other nations into reassessing the "threat of gargoyles".

All of such episodes would have little or no involvement with the Manhattan clan, except in the beginning and end of each episode, where they hear about the beginning and the aftermath on the news and comment amongst themselves.

Sorry, I got carried away with my brainstorming :)

KELLY COMPEAU - Your project sounds very interesting. I visited your website and looked it over; its roots in "Gargoyles" are obvious (with characters and elements in it clearly based on Titania, Xanatos, Oberon's Children, Avalon, the Illuminati, and the Hunters), but it's become something new in its own right. (Reminds me a little of the "Book of Arthur" project that Ed Reynolds and I were working on last year, which similarly began as a sort of rewrite of "TGS: Pendragon" for a non-Gargoyles setting.) I wish you well with it.

CKAYOTE - I doubt that Lancelot would have been a gargoyle in Greg's Masterplan, since Greg wanted Goliath and Elisa's situation to be unique. (Maybe a couple of minor human-gargoyle relationships could have gotten into the Gargoyles Universe eventually, somewhere down the road - but obviously not one of the most celebrated love affairs in Western literature.)

As for whether Duval and Blanchefleur have any children - Greg hasn't said anything about this (and asking him if they did have children strikes me as dangerously close to an idea) - but Roger Lancelyn Green (who was Greg's source for Blanchefleur) gave them a son named Loherangrin the Swan Knight, a figure better known in medieval German legend as Lohengrin. And given Greg's fondness for Green's take on the Arthurian legend, I don't think that it would be too improbable for Lohengrin to exist in the Masterplan somewhere.

(Lohengrin's story is of interest from the Illuminati perspective. The tale goes as follows: a young noblewoman named Elsa, in medieval Germany, is falsely accused of having committed a terrible crime, and needs a champion to defend her in a trial by arms. Lohengrin arrives as a mysterious knight who volunteers to champion her, and defeats her accuser in single combat. Afterwards, Elsa and Lohengrin wed, but on one condition, laid down by Lohengrin, that she never ask him where he came from. Needless to say, Elsa winds up asking him, and Lohengrin sadly tells her that he comes from the Grail Castle where a secret order of knights lives that emerge from it to protect the innocent and right wrongs, but they can only operate in the outside world so long as nobody asks them where they came from. Now, because Elsa asked him, he must go back where he came from, and she will never see him again - which is indeed what happens. It strikes me that this could be interpreted as an early look at the Illuminati's activities, before they went morally astray and started engaging in such activities as becoming organized crime's silent partner and financing anti-gargoyle hate groups.)

Battle Beast said:

"Did Oberon et al. See "Midsummer"? What would Puck think of some human playing himself? Would he think it's a romp, indeed?"

Might be good for a laugh, but if Gargoyles returned in some form, I wouldn't want Greg to delve too far into all the stuff you and Todd are suggesting. Shakespeare interacting with mythical characters and real people outside of his lifetime was covered very well in Neil Gaiman's award-winning comic book series "The Sandman" (I have a feeling at least a few of you here have read it, seem like the audience for it. If not, it's a must-read as far as contemporary fantasy/sci-fi literature is concerned). Not that Greg couldn't do it just as well and differently, but...eh, personally I feel like I've been there done that, need to see some different kinds of storytelling in my entertainment. Plus I don't wanna see people flinging "it's a Neil Gaiman rip-off" at him and the show.

Definitely would like to see some more of the Castle Wyvern clan's days before or during Hudson's time as leader. That's basically what the "Dark Ages" spin-off would've been, right?

I almost feel like we got enough out of the main Gargoyles series to satisfy. That the show could only continue in a revived form if there was a huge shake-up, perhaps getting rid of some of the characters or relegating them to guest stars. The series hit so many amazing highs though, there were so many flat-out brilliant climaxes, that I'm not sure we need to see more Goliath and company dealing with Demona and Xanatos' machinations. I think the spin-offs are the natural continuations. "Dark Ages" and "Bad Guys" (love the cast for that one) seem like the kinds of things I'd find most entertaining. Interestingly enough, those were the two that made it closest to being made and were in the development and pitch stages. After that I'd like to see, in order of preferred concepts...

TIMEDANCER (really like Brooklyn and time-travel stories can be exciting when done well...which isn't often, unfortunately)
THE NEW OLYMPIANS (I barely remember the episode in which those "Island of Doctor Moreau"-like characters were introduced, but Greg's idea for it sounds fun and anthropomorphic animals can be fun since they seem to always get into a lot of trouble. This always seems to show up at the bottom of most people's wish list as far as the spin-offs are concerned, or it simply goes unmentioned. I can't blame them, it's the least-connected to the overall Gargoyles mythos of all the spin-offs)
PENDRAGON (I'm just not that interested in Griff or Arthur, though I LOVE that we'd see more of the Illuminati being dealt with. Also love that Greg would've had a real-life event, such as the Stone of Destiny's return to Scotland, featured in the show).

Future Tense/Gargoyles 2198
I don't place this anywhere in the ordering, but I'd definitely like to see it. I'm not sure if I wanna see it *the most*--over BAD GUYS and DARK AGES--but it feels like it should happen. And that it should air last. As a natural, proper end to the entire franchise. I believe in definite conclusions. This sounds like a great epic to finish it all off.

Now in a perfect world we'd see all of those made in the next few years and be able to own them all on DVD soon after. I'd be insanely appreciative if a network would greenlight just one of them though, that'd be enough.

Heh, imagine they all got greelit at once. You'd practically have to create a whole new Gargoyles-specific network to fit all that into a primetime schedule.

I had a dream.

Ten years ago, after watching the first few episodes of GARGOYLES, I became hooked on the series and searched the Net to find other fans of this ground-breaking animated series. Station 8 was one of the first -- and the best -- websites I'd found, and was thrilled to discover that series creator, Greg Weisman, was a frequent visitor/contributor.

I was a fiction writer back then, and decided to write a little fan-fic piece and post it on S8 for my fellow fans to read. Little did I know that this homage to one of my favourite shows would lead me to where I am today.

This 12 page fan-fic grew to become a 300+ page novel based on the animated series. A few months after the show's cancellation I submitted my manuscript to Disney's adult book publishing firm as the potential first in a series of books based on the GARGOYLES TV show -- and it was promptly rejected.

Undaunted, I deleted all references to copyrighted materials (i.e. 'Goliath', 'Xanatos', 'Castle Wyvern') and transformed the book manuscript into a TV series bible. With the help of some industry friends (actors, writers, producers) from across North America I refined my concept and began shopping the series around to production companies across the country (Canada).

Now, a decade after my journey began, I am in tentative negotiations with two prodcos, and have high hopes that THE BLACK TOWER will be airing in syndication around the world by 2007.

Thanks to Greg Weisman my dream has become a reality, and I will continue to promote his vision of a world filled with magic, diversity and love.

*tosses out April Foolsday info stolen from Dictionary.com*

April 1st was once New Year's Day in France. In 1582, Pope Gregory declared the adoption of his Gregorian calendar to replace the Julian calendar and New Year's Day was officially changed to January 1st. It took awhile for everyone in France to hear the news of this major change and others obstinately refused to accept the new calendar, so a lot of people continued to celebrate New Year's Day on the first of April - earning them the name April fools. The April fools were subjected to ridicule and practical jokes and the tradition was born. The butts of these pranks were first called poisson d'avril or April fish because a young naive fish is easily caught. A common practice was to hook a paper fish on the back of someone as a joke. This evolved over time and a custom of prank-playing continues on the first day of April.

Battle Beast> I distinctly recall Greg saying that MacBeth was "higly amused" when he saw the play that bears his name. This surprised a lot of people, myself included, who figured that even if MacBeth wasn't upset by how he fares in Shakespeare's version of events, he sure as heck wouldn't be ahppy about the portrayal of his wife. (Though it has long been suspected that Demona was more of the inspiration for Lady MacBeth than Gruoch.) Somebody asked Greg about MacBeth's reaction and he revealed that it had something to do with MacBeth knowing Will.

I had thought that maybe MacBeth realized that Shakespeare was under political pressure to alter the facts since King James claimed to be descended from Banquo. But that's just a theory.

On questions: Do Blaneflechuer and Duval had kids? Is there a secret struggle for power between the heirs of the Illuminati even though their parents are immortal? It would be interesting to compare and contrast that with young Oberon and Titania vs. Mab and Oberon's hypothetical father.

Is Oberon's dad still around? Imprisoned like Mab? Dead? And who the hell was he?

What happens to the world between now and 2198?

As for psuedo-spinoffs, I would like to see something on the secret agent types who've been, among other things, covering up the exploits of the Manhattan clan and possibly the other clans around the world.

Matt: I don't think they could really show to much of the Mayans at their peak. To much human sacrifice and all. Though I would like to see a Timedancer about Cortez (or Pizarro and the Incas).

Todd: Gargoyles at the round table. That would be fun to see. Which leads me to a very unorthodox creativity demon: perhaps Sir Lancelot was a gargoyle, adding another layer of forbidden romance to his affair with Guienivere.

Did Demona see it? What did *She* think of it? I Asked greg YEARS AGO about this very same idea but I forget what he replied.

DPH - Sorry, but Brooklyn's future mate's name is Katana. "Sata" is just the name that the TGS staff gave her, and not canon.

(This is the sort of thing that makes me wonder from time to time if TGS was really such a good idea, alongside the occasional questions at "Ask Greg" about whether the series is returning which, from the way that they were written, suggests that the questioner had heard a little about TGS and gotten mixed up.)

A few background matters that I'd have liked to seen explored if "Gargoyles" had lasted long enough:

1. What role gargoyles played in Arthurian Britain. In particular, how public were Arthur's connections to gargoyles? Were his court and the Britons in general aware of this? Might any gargoyles have ever gotten seats at the Round Table? (Not to mention my speculation over whether Mordred might have made use of this for his propaganda when he rebelled against Arthur - did he portray himself as out to rid Britain of "the gargoyle menace", like Canmore when he went to war with Macbeth in 1057?)

2. Macbeth and Shakespeare's friendship (since we know from Greg that they were friends, although Shakespeare didn't know Macbeth's true identity). Connected with that, some indication as to what Macbeth was doing over the past nine hundred years besides hunting Demona. (I've even wondered sometimes whether he might have been in England during the events of Shakespeare's Wars of the Roses history cycle, from Richard II to Richard III and even might have encountered a few of the principals - just imagine a brief encounter between Macbeth and Richard III, both in for dubious literary immortality from the same playwright down the road!)

Since I never have watched StarGate, and probably never will, I'll toss in my idea for a revival possible thingy...

Demona/The Pack/MacBeth/Sevarius, etc. : Where they went wrong.

That would be great for an expanditure or a spinoff.

To stir things up in here, and maybe get some more posts, I am going to start a discussion... (This may or may not be good idea... we'll see.)

Now I don't remember this topic being debated in the last long while, so here goes.

I got to thinking (and that can be dangerous in itself) about Xanatos' line, "...If mom were a prison cook." I was wondering what his mother was like.

My question then is, what three things would you like to see explained or expanded on?

Mine are:

1) Xanatos' backstory

2) Dark Ages (pre-Hudson) what was life like for Gargoyles before Hudson took over as leader?

3) Matt Bluestone's backstory

Now it's your turn.

That is all I will say.

Vertigo1> It may be the only one now, but once they get another ZPM from somewhere in Pegasus, they can go back to earth and hopefully send back a spare ZPM to run the Atlantis gate both ways, and it would be a waste of a city to not have it fill up. I suspect that in later seasons Atlantis will fill up with refugees, Jaffa, maybe even Asgard and other races over time. This borrows heavily on sci-fi series that use a melting pot city as a set, like Babylon 5 and ST:DS9 for example. It just seems like such a waste of a city if only a few hundred people are going to inhabit it over the course of the series.

Random Kiwi: Atlantis is definitely worth watching. It starts off showing off some of the quirks of the team, like making Sheppard into an O'Niell clone (not literally, I'm talking personality wise), but later the characters get fleshed out and we get to see he is anything but a "clone". As for SG-1, the DVDs are definitely worth it. Every episode from season 4 on has a commentary track for EVERY episode, not to mention the customary documentaries like you got on the first three seasons.

(SPOILER WARNING FOR STARGATE ATLANTIS)

Gantros: The teams that showed up (including Daedalus) are all they're going to get. They had to use the ZPM SG-1 aquired from Ra to connect to Atlantis to send the re-enforcements you saw. That same ZPM is on Daedalus, which is powering their hyperdrive, and I presume their asgard-designed weapons grid and shields. The Siege part3 should be VERY interesting indeed. :)

Well, all the seasons of SG-1 up to 8 have been released on DVD, and you can order them online I suppose. As for Atlantis, it's pretty good, although they need to develop more menacing villains than the Wraith, which are basically vampires that just lurk, hiss and grin when the bullets don't take them down at first, not very threatening. But it has potential, at least in the first season, which could be considered somewhat similar to Voyager, meaning they are cut off from SG-1 and Earth and have to fend for themselves. But at the season finale, I got the impression that they would be getting regular contact/immigrants from our Galaxy, so I got the impression that it was going from Voyager style to DS9 style, that people will fill Atlantis.

Good morning all! I was browsing some stuff this morning online and came across this site that is dedicated to "saving" Disney from what he it has become. It has quite a few articles about Iger and Eisner. Just something to check out if you are interested.

Stargate stopped at season five here. I guess I'll have to wait for the DVDs. What are your opinions on the Atlantis spin-off series? Would it be worth watching?

Thats CLAUDIA Black. ;) For those of you that haven't seen any Farscape episodes, she also starred in "Pitch Black". She was the one with the long black hair that was the first to die.

the Atlantis Finale was a cliffhanger, "The Siege" still has a part III to go through where we see the Daedalus, the sister ship to the Prometheus. Also, the 9th season of SG-1 will have Farscape stars Ben Browder (John Crichton) and Julia Black (Aeryn Suun) as regulars on the series. Black made her guest appearance as a thief, who steals Prometheus in "Prometheus Unbound".

The Entertainment section of the local paper on Sunday had a "where are they now" type article on the cast of "Wings." For Tony Shaloub - who currently plays the title character in "Monk" - there was a mention that he'd done voice work on "Gargoyles." That was news to me. Does anyone know what characters he voiced?

Vertigo> Yup. Sg-1 was hughly dissapointing. Although, i am kind excited to see what Ben browder can add to the cast as he takes over as the leader of Sg-1. That's gonna be interesting. Atlantis was pretty shiney. I haven't been following that one though, due to my severe lack of cable. I still liked the show though. I am really disappointed that my show Andromeda is going to be canceled after this season, but, there are rumors of a spinoff. Yipee!!!!! And be online tonight. I wanna talk to you young man. Although you have done nothing wrong, it just sounded funny to type? How did that work?

Kris: Well, theres always the SG-1 season 8 finale. What a complete disappointment that was. That was even more rushed than the DS9 series finale. "Oh, lets have them go back in time, screw things up somehow, mention the rebellion and don't actually show it, and then go back to the present where everything is hunky dorie." *insert bang-head animated gif here*

Atleast the Atlantis season 1 finale was awesome. :)

7th! (probably)

Forgot to include the avatar last time I posted (ah, "avatar", fitting word tonight/this morning). Gotta show the Clancy Brown-love once again, most importantly 'cause Carnivale's second season finale aired several hours ago. Might end up being the SERIES finale, if HBO doesn't pick it up. Clancy was excellent, as always, with that creepy voice of his. The episode was exciting, but by the last 5 or 10 minutes I was frustrated. No answers were given, it was actually quite the cliffhanger despite creator Daneil Knauf promising a workable conclusion in case they don't get renewed for Season 3. And it was utterly unsatisfying after all the build up, a few character's storylines were shamefully anti-climatic. I still love the series though. I just hate being taken for a ride with no promising signs of a light at the end of the tunnel, when the mythology is so murky and vague after two seasons that I have very little confidence in the writers (think: The X-Files' main alien arc, or Buffy The Vampire Slayer's inconsistent/incomprehensible "explanation" for the reasons behind its seventh season villain showing up and doing what it did). If the series gets canceled and/or they keep piling on mysteries that never get resolved, I'm not sure even the goodness of the first and second seasons will have been worth sticking around the entire series for (think: Twin Peaks, and probably a number of other shows that started strong and turned to mush. I'm afraid of LOST ending up that way too).

Sorry, hope you guys don't mind the tangent. It was thinly Gargoyles-related at least! Since they share an actor in common.

Anyone else watching a TV show that's frustrating them? Or even if you just wanna talk about a series you're currently loving and recommend...? I know I've talked up Carnivale a few times since I started posting here, but if you haven't checked out the Season 1 DVDs you may wanna hold off until the series is finished. That way you can listen to what the majority of fans and critics think of it, then decide based on all that whether or not it sounds like it'd be worth risking your free time on.
