sorry for the double post. i looked for that poster pic but couldn't find it. did find this though:

go about halfway down that page, theres a short thing about Gargoyles! and a cool pic of Goliath and Elisa.

i think the best cover art would've been that one picture of Goliath standing on an eagle-like gargoyle over the city. i know a lot of you don't know what i'm talking about, but i know they used it on a poster to advertise the series back in 1994.

The former and current box set artworks have lacked a eye-pop effect that could sell a random shopper seeing it in a store. I think the box covers also lack any setting, because of the stone-like backgrounds. But, I'd buy if for the 26 episodes, and not for the art.
Karl

Hmm I think the cover looks better then the last one.

MIZ - Ah, thanks for telling us about it. I just hope that this is the last time that something like this happens.

(Though a part of me half-wishes that a number of the more frivolous questions in the "Ask Greg" queue had disappeared into cyber-oblivion as a result of the server issue....)

"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

I'm with you there, Greg - THAT pic would be WAY cool, instead of the (more or less boring) one they're going to use. But then - it's not the box art I'm after..... and I'm really looking forwards to get "The Mirror" :)

It has been said that the world is a strange place. This is not true. The world is a VERY strange place.

The cover - I don't like it. But then, I was never too big a fan of that picture.

With City of Stone on this set, and being spotlighted (what with the commentary), this should have been the picture...

Actually, I don't think it looks as good as the last one myself. Why the subtitle? (although "We Live Again" is better than any of the VHS subtitles). Of course, I'm not going to say any of that in a review -- gift horses & mouths. ;) Can't wait to watch "City of Stone" in glorious DVD quality! ^_______________________________^

And we live again!

A bit off topic here, sorry...

I'm one of the techs that dealt with the machine s8 is hosted on recently. That machine is dead. Fried. Cooked itself. Toast. Our team was up all night getting s8 (and others hosted by the same machine) back on its feet, doing data recovery and shuffling around hardware.

It's now running on a temporary (but good) server until replacements are had. Long story short, the harddisk was the only thing salvageable.

But things are up now, and should stay that way...

Miz - [blackfox@ketnar.org]

Todd (and everybody else)> As far as I got to know, the server Station 8 is hosted on has hardware problems..... and was offline yesterday because of those.
Guandalug la'Fay - [guandalug@gargoyles-fans.org]

Station 8 seems to be having some serious stability problems. Last evening, I was again unable to visit any of its sites (just like on Friday morning). Does anybody know what's going on here? Anybody at all?

GUANDALUG - Thanks. And, yes, until I see the Goliath Chronicles episodes again (which isn't likely in the near future), I doubt that I'll be putting up any reviews for them.

Todd Jensen
"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Heeeeere's Guandalug - with yet another announcement: He's back - with more episode reviews. Yes, I'm talking about Todd Jensen - and he brought us "Golem", "Sanctuary", "M.I.A." and "Grief". Thank you, Todd, for your ongoing efforts to enlighten us. I'll really miss your input on the TGC episodes, but that can't be helped right now (maybe when Disney releases them on DVD? :)
Guandalug la'Fay - [guandalug@gargoyles-fans.org]

Why is Demona's clan in "City of Stone" referred to as the "Moray" Clan? (besides because Greg said so, I assume) Is that the geographical region of Scotland where their cave was during that period?

If anyone here likes good sci-fi, go see Serenity. I saw a preview screening for it back in June and loved it, then saw the polished, finished version tonight with a friend who I'd just gotten into Firefly (she finished it last night and loved it). You don't need to have seen the 14 episode Firefly series, but it does make the impact of Serenity that much more sweet. Go see.

Kris - [plekopleko@hotmail.com]

BATTLE BEASTS> Characters on this show lie. Or sometimes don't know what they're talking about. Keep that in mind ;)
Greg Bishansky - [<--- Clicky, clicky.]
I am so going to the Special Hell

Demona also frequently lied to both the Manhattan Clan and Xanatos.

shes been known to keep her secrets for her own purposes, and i can think of many reasons she might keep the secret of the London Clan (or others) from Goliath and Xanatos. perhaps she simply promised the Londeners she wouldn't tell. perhaps her arguments are more valid if they really are the last ones. perhaps she knows about them but thinks they've been wiped out. i could go on...

matt - [ewoks11@hotmail.com]
"Do not despise the day of small beginnings." -Zechariah 4:10

Demona frequently made reference to them being "the last of their kind." Demona would have told Xanatos if there were more Gargoyles at some point; and Xanatos even said that the Gargs were the last oned (he could have been lying though). If she knew about the other clans, why not say so??

TOdd> You had a good point. If She knew about the clans, why not recruit them?? She would try to turn them against Goliath & Co.

Battle Beast
That is all I will say.

For those Garg fans in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, Jonathan Frakes, the voice of Xanatos, will be a special media guest at Dallas Comic Con 6, next weekend Oct. 15-16 at the Plano Centre. Check the link for more details!

Karl - [esopusgargoyle@gmail.com]

This is my first comment since my de-con-virginizing! Hey, everyone. I met some Gargoyles at the Las Vegas Gathering, which was a friendly experience. This was a tremendous relief, compared to when I made a comment near to a year ago in this web site, and it felt like a step into an alien world. I immediately have discovered many episodes from Season 2 are left out of cable television. "The Mirror", "Future Tense", and many Avalon adventures I have never seen; I feel the topics from these episodes come up a lot in discussions. There are the guest characters which we rarely see, like Una in "M.I.A." (I have a recordable DVD of that episode), and I don't know why cable television would leave out so many of the Avalon adventures which introduce newer facets of the television show's world. So I can't wait for Disney to release DVDs of all Season 2 episodes- in the original aired form, uncut, of course.

My Brooklyn cel arrived in the mail yesterday. The Gathering 2005 experience was waving in again when I looked at it. My web site link will show up the Brooklyn cel, although some sign-in process will be required. I don't want to put anyone through the sign-in, so you can speak with me in e-mail or on AIM: esopusgargoyle, and I'll give out a link to see it without signing in.

Bye.

Karl - [esopusgargoyle@gmail.com]

i think she does know about the London Clan, and shes come to realize that they are neutral in her cause. until recently, it didn't seem like they were going out of their way to help the humans, but they wern't at odds with them either. they are simply too large a Clan too near to her homeland in a city she was sure to have spent some time in for her not to have run into them somewhere in 1000 years. she probably feels like an outsider among them and they probably view her as a rogue, so she never joined them.

makes me think of something though. we have never really seen Demona with a whole other Clan. she has her history with the Wyvern Clan, became at odds with the Manhatten Clan, wasn't really awake to meet Avalon. maybe shes totally cordial towards a whole other Clan, maybe she is old friends with Una. we've only seen her with her Moray Clan and she was their leader and in a war so its hard to say how she acted in peacetime. not sure i'm making my point clear here, but what i mean is, perhaps Demona isn't so insane around those neutral to her cause, like a whole other Clan.

as for Loch Ness, i too think they are too reclusive for Demona to know about them, but on the other hand, they are close to home and Demona has been around a long time. maybe she knows about them but respects their privacy.

Pukhan and China we don't really know enough about to judge how openly they live, but it seems doubtful shes aware of them. even if she happened to be in the area, would she find them? Guatemala seems similiar. its so remote that her only reason for going there would likely be cuz she heard of them. Ishimura seem too secretive, and it wouldn't surprise me if they avoided Demona, if somehow they learned of her.

i wonder if there was a time in her 1000 years of solitude that Demona actively searched out other gargs throughout the world. she certaintly had the time and we know she had to be lonely.

matt - [ewoks11@hotmail.com]
"Do not despise the day of small beginnings." -Zechariah 4:10

So does anybody know what happened to Station 8 in the early morning? It was down when I tried reaching it earlier today.

I doubt that Demona knows about any of the clans other than the Manhattan ones (including the Clones) and the Avalon clan, for the reason that I've given before (if she was aware of the London gargoyles, say, she'd have tried recruiting them for her anti-human cause, and turned on them if they had rejected her).

Todd Jensen

Manhattan, Labyrinth, Avalon and London.

I doubt she knows about Guatemala or Ishimura. The Lochness Clan didn't even attempt to make contact with Goliath and Angela, and Sevarius didn't find them, so I doubt Demona knows about them either.

Greg's Birthday>> Sorry, I always feel weird saying "Happy Birthday" or some such after a half-dozen people have already said it so,
This is the first day of the next Puckworldish* year of your life. ( That is, if you had moved to Puckword a short time after being born, you would be celebrating a birthday today)

*Pick any fictional planet with an undetermined year ;-) I guess I'm thinking of Puckworld because the (North American) NHL hockey regular season will begin soon!

Like the man said, "There are no problems; only solutions!"

besides birthday wishes for Greg, its been an awfully slow week in here.

we've got a couple days before the room clears and obviously my earlier attempt at a discussion didn't catch on so i think i'll bring up one from a couple weeks ago.

if you had to make a guess, what Clans (if any) do you think Demona knows about.
obviously she knows of the Manhatten, Labyrinth and Avalon Clans, so we need not include them.

my list:
London

yeah, thats it. some are maybes, like Loch Ness, but the only one i'd say i'm confident about it London.

Wingless - Look ahead to the episode "Vendettas". Goliath & Hudson were able to, using the same maneuver, knock Wolf through steel. Shan: My mistake. I was referring to someone on my Buddy List who goes by the handle of Fallendragon4. She's known as Bronx in the TGS Comment Room. She told me she wrote a review for Season 2, but put it under the wrong product. I told her a few weeks ago she should copy and paste it so it went under the Gargoyles Season Two DVD. Guess I should have been more specific.

Shan responds:

First off I am assuming you mean me. (Only Shannon I know of, but just checking). If not me, please clarify who you mean.

I am confused. Do you mean a pre-review for the upcoming disc set, or a review for the already released Season 1 disc set? I haven't done either one, largely because I've never done an Amazon review in my life and wouldn't know where to start. Secondly, my general tendency is not to speak up when I feel like "everyone covered that ground already, why repeat it" though in this case I do understand the intent.

I also can't copy and paste something that hasn't been written and existing elsewhere which adds to my confusion.

Clarification appreciated. Thanks.

dph - I thought the same thing, though it seemed unlikely even with the force of the punch of 2 gargoyles(thought it was 2 that gave the punch, it's been a while since I've seen the ep) that it sent Jackel flying into the tub. It makes more sense that he was dropped in the tub. I just wish we could have seen it animated that way. Then again, I wish we could have seen what happened to the amulet after the clocktower blew up. I would have liked to have seen it returned to it's rightful owners.
Wingless

Thanks for the clarification about "The Green". I'd always assumed that Jackal managed to land miraclously in the hot tub with slightly more or slightly less force making him miss. It never occured to me that he was dropped in there. The scene shows Jackal being hit then the next scene transitions to him landing in the hot tub with no indication he was dropped there.

For the record, Jackal isn't KNOCKED into the hot tub.

They knock him out. And then later DUMP him into the hot tub. It never occured to me that the two scenes could be interpreted any other way. Silly me.

Hunter's Moon 1, Act 3 is just a big fight if i remember. Hudson, Goliath and Angela versus The Hunters and the Trio and Bronx versus Demona. goes on most the act and then you got Elisa doing CPR on Angela and Goliath vowing to kill the Hunters. thats about it, i think, am i missing anything?

Is this a dragon that I see before me, the veil just in his hand? Come, let me draw thee...

Guandalug: I have a feeling that we will get a Volume Two of Season Two. Of course, one thing that will help that along would be 100 reviews at amazon.com before December 6th.

Let's not start slacking just because we got Disney to finally start listening. Let's show them just how committed to this thing we really are!

HOE: Yep, I'm such a masochist, aren't I? But if I survived To Serve Mankind, then I can handle the rest of TGC, I think. Either way, it'll be an interesting experience. :P

A day late, but oh well.

I so remember watching 'Get Smart' with my father. I remember one line, not all of it, but it was where 66 first met 99. Ack! What were the names of the baseball teams they mentions. "Someone beat someone; 66 to 99." Did the Dodgers beat the Mets or vise versa? This is going to bother me until I remember. At least I thought it was 66 to 99. Anyone remember?

If all the world's a stage, please help me find my script.

HoE> Send it without proofreading? Yeah, go ahead... I might post it without proofreading it, either :) And don't worry about the Synopsis, take your time - I'm just going to ask every now and then to get an update..... just because I know _I_ would possibly forget about it if I'm not reminded.

Speaking of, my own Synopsis of 'Hunters Moon, Part 1' is done and uploaded. I just had to check the synopsis of Hunters Moon 2 to see where I had to END it.... my taped version was kinda cut, making the whole three episodes into one - so I finally noticed (when Elisa fell of the dam) that I wrote a tad too much :) I really look forward to the DVD release (hoping that there IS one of the second half of the second season) to get an uncut, clear version of the episodes. Oh, and of course I couldn't make out the 'Act' delimiters, as all commercial breaks are indeed cut out of my recording.... so, this is one huge synopsis. If anyone can tell me where the breaks were......

Guandalug la'Fay - [guandalug@gargoyles-fans.org]

This is dipping into last week's discussion, but I forgot to mention it then.

D. Taina: You actually WANT the job of finishing the TGC Synopses? Brave, my dear, quite brave. Be warned: repeated viewings of the Goliath Chronicles might actually drive one to drink. I know I keep putting "Ransom" off because I don't know if I could take the pain, so when I probably do sit down to watch it, it will be under the influence of something. But that should make my synopsis more fun to read the next day. Maybe I'll take a chance and send it to Guandalug without proofreading. ( ;

Okay, on to new business.

*raises mug of Moretti La Rossa in honor of Maxwell Smart.*

By strange coincidence, I just happened to be having one of the beers from my private reserve as a nightcap.

I would have liked to have seen Macbeth and Renard in the same room, simply because the two of them had some common ground (at heart, they're both men of honor). That might have been interesting. And I agree that pairing Demona with just about anyone in the series has good potential.

Todd: Don't forget that Yama also acknowledged his role in the events of "Bushido." Even though Demona's actions had more dire consequences, she has yet to assume responsibility for them, and continues to blame the humans. Hmmmm, speaking of responsibility, I think it would have been great if Demona could have met Renard. A scene similar to the one in "Outfoxed," with Demona in the cage instead of Goliath, would have at least been interesting to see, since I doubt Demona would be "gargoyle enough" to admit anything.

Harvester of Eyes - [Minstrel75@gmail.com]
Hey, Station 8! Look! I'm riding a furry tractor!

Calling Demona "sugar" would most likely be even more dangerous than calling her daughter "Angie".
Todd Jensen
"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

I would've liked to see a Demona-Hakon/Captain episode post-massacre. Just to see her give them a piece of her mind.

And Dracon would NEVER call Demona "sugar"...he's probably heard some bad stories.

Lord GargFan

I mentioned earlier that an encounter between Demona and Yama could be interesting; on the one hand, both have very strong opinions about human-gargoyle relations that led them to betray their own clans with a tone of "for their own good" about it, but their opinions are directly opposed to each other: Demona believes that peace between the two races is impossible, while Yama believes that peace is possible but is too impatient in his efforts at bringing it about.

As for the topic at hand... Demona with anyone that hasn't met her always has the potential for black hilarity. Personally, though, I'd go with Brooklyn and Gabriel. Maybe they meet in the TimeDancer saga, I dunno. But a teamup of some sort would have been pretty cool.

i'd like to see an episode sometime after "The Journey" where all the Clan leaders (Goliath, Gabriel, Una, Kai, Zafiro and other from the Clans we havn't seen yet) get together to discuss the Gargoyle situation in the world. i doubt this is likely to happen in the near future, might be impossible, but thats what i'd like to see. a gathering of all the Clan's would be very interesting. fun to listen to their widely different views on the Gargoyle Way and interaction towards humans.
