Greg B> Goliath and Elisa are great, but they've hogged the spot light for the first five issues.

First six, but at least we can count on Bronx and Angela to get a share of the spotlight.

The current Spoiler, does anyone else besides me feel echos of TGC "Angels Of The Night". The finished episode did have them toying with the idea of leaving Manhattan.

Purplegoldfish> "Not sure if he'll meet his "special friend" on this this road trip, but I think it's possible since "Clan Building" is the theme here. It would be cool if he did."

I agree with you there, but I also tend to doubt it, unfortunately. It might happen in #7, but it may also take a good while before he is introduced.

Greg B> Lets see, this is a site for fans is it not? When something like issues #5's cover was leaked by you in the first place was it not? I just happened to find it again on the Wikipedia website recently. And where the hell do you have the gall to post privately rude emails to me? I need to grow up? If I posted your email on this comment room then everyone would see the person you really are. Your choice of actions is when I wonder about fandoms that are extreme. You may have a relationship with Greg W and SLG that most fans don't have here, but when you become overprotective and try to enforce in your own methods that to me is unacceptable. You need to grow up. This is the internet. Crap happens. A little exchange of things between fans should be innocent itself. I don't care if its illegal or not approved. Its the 'net and these things happen. I respect Greg W's wishes too, but I'm a fan too at the same time and wish to help another fan. Whats the big deal?
Why is issue #7's info being considered a big secret? This info will be in a Previews catalog sooner or later. If I'm to be blamed on stealing or handing out leaked pics/info, then should we not blame Previews as well? This book wasn't around for comics dealers 17 years ago.
I don't care if I get yanked off these boards or not, but if I never post here again I don't care. Maybe you should be yanked? Never in my time on the net have I encountered this type of reaction from other fans, by being rude to others. What I did is so bad? You used expletives in your email. So what the hell is your problem? Issue #5 will be out sooner or later, will the cover being seen now be a big deal? Bye all for now.

#7> I don't think the gargoyles are abandoning their protectorate. It might have something to do with that favor of Macbeth's. Hell, maybe they're feeling a little grateful that he defended them in "The Journey".

Sounds like a story focusing on the trio and Angela, maybe Hudson too. Welcome by me. Goliath and Elisa are great, but they've hogged the spot light for the first five issues.

#7 TAG>>

Kingcobra: I had that thought as well. Not sure if he'll
meet his "special friend" on this this road trip, but I think it's possible since "Clan Building" is the theme here. It would be cool if he did.

As for the road trip-I wonder if they go involuntarily, or if they have no choice-like Goliath and elisa going on the world tour. Gargoyles are pretty loyal to their protectorates, it doesn't seem they would leave just like that.

Does anyone else think the "slab of stone" is the Stone of Destiny?
I'm curious what's so important about Fox's shoes, and goliath and elisa repair their relationsip...porn scene! ;)

"Whoa, Tiny, you mean there's more than one of you?" "My name is not Tiny! I am Goliath!" - Elisa and Tiny

Tony >> *YES* some of us still cannot get #3. Please continue to use spoiler tags. It is only fair.

AVATARS >> I made those avatars, and I think they are just fine. I used the screenshots that were available to me, and I chose to add the characters that had no avatars yet, and those that were requested. If you would like to make avatars from the comic covers, go ahead, but you'll have to scan them. I no longer have access to the software on the school computers which I used to make those avatars, so I can't make any more. The last batch are ready to upload and Gorebash will add them soon, but those are the only avatars I was able to make.

Alex and Greg: Hey come on guys, so what if Tony steals and then expects people to share? I mean, this shouldn't surprise anyone. He HAS quoted the Bible in here before. And ironically, it was Matthew 16:26.

Tony: <Where does patience get you? No where fast.> Yeah, how dare it take 11 years for us to get new canon Gargoyles material. And now we have to wait a couple months? Because, you know, everyone knows that nothing good is worth waiting for. Now, if everyone will excuse me, I'm gonna go cash my 401k in right this very minute. Fuck maturation.

And, btw, I doubt anyone here cares about your little threat to not share leaked or stolen info. The rest of us, us adults, are patient and can wait for Greg to give us the info. Just because you have a sense of entitlement with its own gravitational pull doesn't mean we'll get drawn into it.

OK. Not a problem. From now on if I happen to obtain any information then I'll clear it with Greg W. before sharing. This way while you're enjoying the #6 cover that may get leaked, I'll enjoy the #8 preview description that may get leaked, and we'll be one big happy family.

#2 - I did not steal information for anyone or from anywhere. It was posted for everyone to see and I figured since I was the first to seemingly see it, that I should share it with everyone and not be selfish. So I'm not asking for people to share stolen material, I'm asking them to share information that was posted by accident, just like it was at SLG. The point is moot, so I'm not worried about it anymore, but thanks for protecting copyright law.

#1 - You asked Greg about #7. Greg who? Weisman? I didn't know you two had such an open relationship.

What a surprise for us that issue #7's preview info has been put up already. Sounds really good. I didn't catch the image though. Does anyone have it? Please send it to me. Was it a cover or panel image?
TiniTinyTony> if you put up an email address I'll send you issue #5's cover.
Can't believe that everyone is complaining about the new cover price, the Previews catalog already has this down as the cover price for issue #6. So to all those who're complaining its happening an issue sooner. I mentioned this on my last post here, but until you all see it on SLG's site than you noticed. I guess those that get Previews would be the only ones that knew this. I'm up in the loop about the survival of this comic. If its SLG's bestselling book, why is it still in a crisis for survival? I mean Greg B's posting from SLG'c EiC Jennifer, changing the cover stock and raising the cover or cancelling the book were the choices on the matter. The cover stock change is not a big deal to me, but when you throw in the entire existance of the comics future, that to me makes no sense. SLG is small, but thats just to extreme on the matter. It could've ended on issue #4 for this reason? Does any publisher can their bestselling book?
Gorebash> you posted some new avatars, if you do anymore in the future, I think you should do ones off the comic covers by Greg Guler. His art is just excellent and should be some of the avatars gracing this comment room among the SLG choices. My opinion of course. I don't mean the whole covers but the head/character shots/close ups.

Heh. Gargoyles Road Trip. Now I've got this great image of Broadway sitting in the backseat talking about how Elisa's gonna kill them if anything happens to the car.

And honestly, if there were an organization that shunned their existence, I could totally see the Deltas responding by going on a road trip.

I don't know why people are complaining about the paper the comic is printed on. The majority of comic books used to be printed on newsprint and at best they had a glossy paper cover similar in quality to the inside pages of a magazine.

My favorite recent updating at the GargWiki is the entry on the White House (which I suspected would have to be quickly added after #4 - after the release of #4's tagline, in fact), which includes a lot of interesting information about its real-world background.

* ABOUT #7 *

I wonder a little about the road trip concept myself. Despite the gargoyles' current PR problem, I'd be surprised if they'd be seriously considering leaving Manhattan for a while, in light of their oath to protect it. On the other hand, they can't protect it if Castaway and the Quarrymen have smashed them, and most of their enemies currently seem to be more after them than after the general public. But we'd probably better wait to see what happens in it.

What we *do* know from "Ask Greg" is that it's going to be told in a non-linear manner - which is certainly also intriguing.

Humans are such easy prey for a gargoyle!........oh, and my new gamertag on xbox live for 360 is "I am Goliath"

So they raise the price and reduce the quality to save the comic. Doesn't that sound like an ass backwards thing to do in order to save something?

.45 more cents ain't going to hurt me, but I can understand for those that it will . . . and as I said about the covers: It's a shame, but we'll live.

If it'll get us more stories PLUS the Bad Guys mini-series, it's worth it.

Purplegoldfish: I actually rather liked your new Avatar, but its your decsion :P

yes well, it seems to me that SLG has too much on its plate. For such a tiny company, it shouldn't be producing the amount of comics it currently is.

So now the consumers have to pay more money for the book (that's made with cheaper material) because of SLG's incompetance...swell

Oh, the stores that order them have been selling out, and the comic is their Top Seller. But, remember SLG is a tiny company.

Also, I think the six month wait for #2 really hurt the comics orders from stores.

Fidel Castro dressed up like Marilyn Monroe and gave JFK a case of syphilis so bad it eventually blew out the back of his head.

I thought "Gargoyles" was SLG's highest selling Disney property...not to mention the fact that many stores and websites that hold them have sold out and aren't meeting demand. I don't get it. 45 cents is a big deal to some people particularly those without jobs. I really think the price increase will hurt instead of help. (I've been buying two books at a time but now I'm considering just buying one every other month-I am between jobs right now).

Maybe they should cancel one of their less popular disney series...like Tron...I'm curious to know who reads that.

I received this e-mail a couple weeks ago from Jennifer de Guzman.

"Greg,

The price change is not a mistake. The orders for Gargoyles have been getting lower with each issue, and it was a choice between raising the price and making some production changes (the issues will not have card stock covers, for example) and canceling the series. Obviously, we don't want to cancel the series just as its beginning new Gargoyles material, so we had to make this decision. We hope $0.45 per issue isn't too much of a burden for the individual consumer and retailers, but those cents will help us keep the comic going.

I don't think #5 & #6 are there because they're not supposed to be, just like #7 is not supposed to be. But it doesn't matter because the descriptions for #5 & #6 are at GargWiki, but everyone already knows that, right?

And I wouldn't worry about the price either since technically #7 should not be listed anyway, I'm sure the price is not accurate, unless the price is going up. And if it's going up, they better bring back the stronger covers. I'm not digging the #4 cover being so flimsy. I think the covers are the best drawn pieces of the comic and deserve stronger paper.

Also, Greg W. asked me to be patient in refence to David Hedgecock getting better at drawing the Gargoyles comic. Well, how does he improve when we are having guest artists for a couple of issues? Wouldn't it make sense for him to improve as much as he can in the beginning so that later issues look better? What other pressing matter(s) does Hedgecock got going on that he can't put all his effort in the Gargoyles comic?

****Blaise walks into the Room...hovering about three feet above the floor.**** I've decided to just avoid the ground for a little while.

BATTLE BEAST> Unfortunately, pretty much all my show-biz work for the past 3+ years has been as atmosphere (background...you know, an "extra") so there's nothing on IMDB. I've had a couple of silent bits (got to throw up in front of House a couple of seasons back), but no lines...yet (I've only been in the unions for a few months). I've just got to focus on connecting/re-connecting with the people who can help me advance (and then there's headshots, and classes, and demos, and more crap than you can shake a stick at).
Mostly, it's just a matter of time and persistance (most "overnight star" stories are the result of 5-10 years of struggling).

GARGOYLES ISSUE #7 PREVIEW> MINOR SPOILERS!!!

I was wondering when Coldsteel would show up. Also, it seems Thailog is trying to build up his own little organization (good for him--a Big Bad needs an organization). I can't wait to see who these new "assistants" are going to be. And just what sort of favor could Macbeth POSSIBLY need? I also find myself very interested in this "road trip" for the clan. Not too surprising that they'd want to get out of the city--I mean, in addition to everything else listed they still have their "little PR problem." Granted, "anti-gargoyle" feelings are probably not quite as broad and monolithic as TGC portrayed them, but they are a definite strong background in the current status-quo. Some time out of the city may allow the feelings to die down further.
I have to say, though, I probably should have refrained from reading the description--it makes me too darn impatient! We still haven't hit issues 5 and 6 yet! This is just like pouring lemon juice on a paper cut, ARRGH!
Oh well, maybe they'll put up the blurb for "Bad Guys" issue #1 soon. :-)

END SPOILERS!!

STRANGE, POSSIBLY STUPID, QUESTION> Does anyone care to hazard a guess just how much the general population knows about the gargoyles' sleeping as stone? I mean, we know that the Quarreymen know (Castaway would see to that), but what about everyone else? Bluestone made mention of people vandalizing stone statues back in "Nightwatch," so obviously some sort of connection is being made, but how solid is it, really?
My mind is just weird right now.

I'm gone. Until next time, farewell. ****Blaise, still about three feet off the ground, begins to walk upwards as though on a staircase until he walks right out of the skylight.****

Anyways, I expect the link to the issue #7 to be taken down when somebody realizes it's up.

At least I'm getting better at lowering the number of questions I leave during a review. Now that I have dates for CoS I can start working on some answers on my own. Still, the dates are quite a bit sooner than I expected. November 9, 1995 (1st day of City of Stone) was a Thursday. November 10, 1995, a Friday, would be the 1st day everybody was turned to stone. Sunset would be at 4:43 pm that day. Lots of businesses, specifically banks with security cameras, would still be open at that time. Sunrise would be at 6:37am Saturday, November 11. Sunset would be at 4:42pm. The economic impact could be worse.

****SPOILERS******************************************
Not too fond of the art this issue, but he does manage to get things across. I especially loved the scene with the shot of Goliath, Morgan, Elisa, and Delilah together and silent. "Awkward" immediately jumped into my head.

I enjoyed the exchange between Thailog and Owen, especially Owen's comment about his being tired of rebuilding the castle. Practical as always.

That's it. Not much else to add.

*** LOLZ COMIC BOOK SPOILERZ ***

Random comments...

I predicted in my review of the last issue that we'd be seeing Jeffrey Robbins again based on Hudson saying he had other plans. Damn I'm good.

The Halloween costumes on the gargoyles made me LOL. Angela as Dorothy is perfect. It's too bad Demona didn't show up as the Wicked Witch. Elisa as Princess Jasmine was way too amusing to me because I did that in fanfic years ago.

Between this issue and the last, I can't tell who's more eager to score... Brooklyn or Morgan. For a guy costuming as Sherlock Holmes, Morgan's comments about "getting my shot" sure seem clueless.

Angela's got a lot of chutzpah to chastise Elisa for bringing a date, too. Didn't see her saying anything about Goliath and Delilah.

Owen has obviously never watched "Back to the Future Part 3". After the bad guy hands over his guns, you still need to be sure to ask him for his knife.

The number greetings with the Illuminati must be some kind of ranking system. Unlike Austin Powers, I suppose that Xanatos doesn't really have to ask, "Who does Number 2 work for?!?"

That's all for now.

Greg has probably learned from that, since I think that he did a good job of getting Delilah's origins across in #4 without making it look as if we're holding up the story to get information that would be familiar to everyone who's seen the show. Here, Delilah's mention that she's a combined clone of Demona and Elisa is treated as a slip of her tongue that immediately unsettles Judge Roebling and indicates that she's still rather naive in some ways (not too surprising considering that she's only been around for a few months) and doesn't realize yet that there are certain things that it's not a good idea to mention at social gatherings.

SPOILERS AHOY!

Stabbing on the TV> We can't know for certain that Greg always intended for Thailog to stab Goliath. The back and forth of who Elisa's date for the Halloween party would be should be ample proof that until it's on the screen or the page, nothing is set in stone. (I am so sorry, but I couldn't think of a better phrase.) If this story was around with that scene close to the way it showed up in the comic long enough to have been considered for TV, my best guess is that Thailog would have blasted Goliath with a concealed arm cannon, similar to the ones the Steel Clan and Coldstone sport, but likely slimmer since it can't actually retract into his arm. Similar effect, no need for blood. It's just a guess, but with the magic of TV and lasers, there are ways to mortally injure Goliath without making so much of a mess.

Hey Gorebash, thanks for all the work. Well, I like the menus just fine, but now that you mention it, maybe it's not such a bad idea to make the submenus for the current part stand out more. That's what you meant, right?
Gerin - [malte dot ressin at gmail dot com]

I've been avoiding the room for a couple of days since my husband's new work schedule means we can't get to the comic store until the weekend. But our super awesome comic shop had my copy in our box and we picked it up today.

---HERE THERE BE POTENTIAL SPOILERS---

I'm not going to go into a full analasys of the whole comic, since you guys seem to have covered it pretty well already. I was generally quite pleased. The story is really moving at a good pace now, which is understandable since we've got all of the setup and recap out of the way. This issue is a particularly good balance between the character moments and action scenes. I especially like the brief conversation between Elisa and Goliath towards the end. And Thailog's fun. Thanks for pointing out the "Norma Rae" reference, Greg B. I'm happy with the art this time around. It just feels more like someone translating the characters into another style rather than someone drawing the characters inconsistantly. It doesn't always work perfectly and there are some small flubs here and there, but overall it worked for me and I finally have an issue that my husband will read. (He's a professional artist and really disliked the art in the pervious issues.)

I'm pretty curious about Labyrinth Girl. I'm not sure if I believe she has a deep ulterior motive; she was pretty quick to volunteer to go tell Goliath about Thailog's return, but given that she apparently didn't know where the gargoyles make their home, it may not have been an attempt to "get inside" so to speak. At this point, it's going to be pretty disappointing if she turns out to be a perfectly ordinary homeless young woman with nothing to hide.

I liked all the costume choices. I think we can fairly assume that Brooklyn is supposed to be the Scarecrow. I'm guessing that Angela might be a bit oblivious to Brooklyn's remaining feelings for her. She's got her relationship with Broadway (and a lot of non-romance issues) to keep her occupied and she likely thought Brooklyn's desire to woo her had cooled after "Turf". Incidently, I don't mind the Broadway chowing down panel largely because Lex is right there with him looking just as drooly. It's less of a "Look, Broadway's a fat guy who loves food" thing and it's understandable; I doubt the gargs have seen such a spread since they left the castle for the clock tower.

Thailog's ending "question": Well, now we know the circumstances of the next cover (assuming it gets approved. I agree that the expression on Goliath looks a little off, though it's not too bad. I think it's largely his brows; they make him look more sad or confused than shocked. I'm sure Thailog has his reasons for doing this as he's a planner, but right now I'm not sure what his ultimate aim is in giving Goliath a better view of his insides.

So here's a question: What do you think will ultimately happen with the clones? I'm hoping they don't just end up going back to Thailog permanently. There's few enough gargoyles as is and I was looking forawrd to seeing how they developed as characters. I think it would be more interesting if they left Thailog. Or better yet, if some left and some stayed, either by programming or by choice. Any thoughts?

Gorebash -- I don't have a problem with the menus, but I'm used to them.

Just to check - you received the last pictures I sent intact?

Vaevictis Asmadi

Oh, one other question. The menu on the left here.. I've got the menu for the current section of the website (comment room, ask greg) appearing below the main menu of the website.

I was thinking it those menus start to fade into the background because they share the same colors as everything else. Any opinions one way or the other on whether you think changing the colors for JUST the menu system for the current section of the page would be any benefit?

Gorebash - [gorebash at s8 dot org]

Some updates to Ask Greg. I've added a "Greg's Ramblings" page. This lets you browse and search _only_ Greg's rambles. Also updated the search code used on the unanswered questions (and rambles) pages so that you can use quotation marks (single and double) and it won't get goofy.

And lastly, and this is a WORK IN PROGRESS, here's an RSS feed for Ask Greg:
http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/rss.php

Right now it'll only show the last 10 responses/rambles in Ask Greg. I am looking to add more features tot his feed so you can watch a specific library, set an arbitrary amount of AG nodes to retrieve, maybe even monitor the approved but unanswered questions queue. I'm not sure yet how far I really want to go, but we'll see.

Feedback is always encouraged.

DELILAH> She is a cross between two beings. I feel she is more likely to join the clan than, say, hollywood, because she isn't a clone of just one person she is more different, unique, if you catch my drift. And I too think she will get free will faster.

Harvester> No Beer. Just ROOT beer. We're Alcohol free! But plenty of mouth-wattering cookies on the table!

That is all I will say.

I always thought the weirdness of the whole thing would be even more amplified if Delilah ended up with Burbank. Keep in mind that despite being Hudson's clone and having the beard and all that, Burbank is the same age as the rest of the Clones. Delilah/Burbank would be very weird.

****Blaise claws his way out of a crack in the floor.**** I hate it when that happens.

MATT> I have only the most shallow of reasons:
1) For some reason, I find myself latching onto the idea that Delilah will be the first to become her own individual and turn against Thailog--maybe even inspiring some of the others to do the same.
2) I like Brooklyn, and therefore find myself hoping his clone will join "the side of the angels" (to say nothing of also, for absolutely no real reason, hoping against all expectation that Malibu and Delilah will get together--I told you I had the most shallow of reasons).
3) I think I had "Future Tense" Lex in my mind (and Lex's costume sure doesn't dispel that thought) when I thought that Brentwood would stay with the "dark side." That line of reasoning also makes me envision Brentwood as being the one who actively ENJOYS being evil. I mean, I think it would be a fun little twist on the whole "dream or prophecy" thing.
3) Outside of that I could go either way. I just said Hollywood because, for some reason, I just see him as going along with Thailog out of reluctant loyalty. The type of character who doesn't think he SHOULD turn against Thailog so he goes along with him, even though he doesn't like it--a sort of reluctant follower (which would beg the question of how long Thailog would put up with him). It struck me as an interesting (there's that word again) possible plotline.
Of course, as you point out, at this point you could replace Brentwood and Hollywood with ANY of the other clones (except Delilah, maybe) and it wouldn't really change much. Like I said, I just find myself thinking this way for purely shallow reasons.

I'd better get going now--busy day. Until next time, farewell. ****Blaise dusts himself off, and turns to walk out the door before falling through yet another crack in the floor (his diminishing scream takes FOREVER to fade away.****

Cool thing happened last night. I was hanging out at Border's with someone, and we met one of his friends, someone whom I'd never met before. We were browsing through DVDs and discussing good movie trilogies, when we happened across a copy of Gargoyles: Season Two Volume One. Apparently, this person I was with knew that the series was out on DVD, but just had not been able to find it. When I told her where I was going at the end of June, her exact reaction was: "Oh my God, there's a convention? That is so awesome!" I'm sending my friend the Gathering's web address to forward to her.

Greg B: I think if Thailog gained anything at the end of "The Reckoning," it would be the ability to plan his comeback without fear of being discovered, since the clan probably thought that he was dead. I wonder what other resources he had squirreled away, aside from cool guns that seem to function somewhat like Bishop's mutant power.

<but he gained... well... probably some very hot sex from Demona that night so that qualifies in my book ;)> Hah! In a game of war, I think that beats everything including aces.

Matt: <- I still think the Labyrinth Girl is involved somehow. I can't figure it out, but I think something is up along those lines.> Well, judging by the preview for number 6, Thailog seems to be working with someone.

BLAISE> "--Did anyone else notice that Thailog is STILL wearing that little Halloween "eye-mask" throughout this entire issue (I think that may be the "goggles" you saw, Jurgan)."

It's called a Domino mask, and it's there in #3 also. Hard to notice since Thailog is colored dark grey in this, though he's supposed to be really dark blue. I guess it's Thailog's way of getting into the spirit of Halloween. I like it, fits in with his sense of humor.

Funny enough, Thailog is wearing the same costume as his other father, Xanatos.

Yeah, part of me is hoping some of the clones do go with Thailog. He needs to gain something at the end of this, he's supposed to be the next main villain after all. Look at Xanatos in the first two seasons, he always gained something.

Let's see, what did Thailog gain in his animated appearances?

1. Failed to kill his fathers but took $20 Million. A very nice gain, if I do say so myself.

2. Failed to eliminate Demona and Macbeth and take their wealth for himself, but he gained... well... probably some very hot sex from Demona that night so that qualifies in my book ;)

3. Okay, "The Reckoning" was a dismal failure, but he has obviously recovered from that.

So, #5, what do you think will happen? I think there's a plan within the plan. Tonight has to be about more than regaining control of Delilah and the clones. Knowing Thailog, something else is up. He's got to have an ace up his sleeve... and not the one he stabbed Goliath with.

Here's hoping this is the last of anyone in this room being the victim of ANY crime.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON ISSUE #4, AND SPECULATION ON #5>

*****************SPOILERS!! SPOILERS!!****************

--Does anyone else get a "Monty Python" vibe from Roebling's "Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more"?
--Did anyone else notice that Thailog is STILL wearing that little Halloween "eye-mask" throughout this entire issue (I think that may be the "goggles" you saw, Jurgan).
--Count me as another who loved Fox's little mask.
--Is it just me, or did Angela get a major haircut to pull off the "Dorothy" look? I mean, seriously, her hair looks a lot shorter than it normally is.
--Before Angela starts talking to him, Brooklyn seems to be watching Goliath and Delilah. Is he mentally replacing Goliath with himself on Delilah's arm?
--Any thoughts on what Brooklyn's costume is going to be? I kind of doubt it's going to be the "Scarecrow" or anything like that, so probably something that plays up the "swashbuckler" aspect of Brooklyn's personality. Of course, if it's not a generic costume, it would have to be something owned by Disney, or at least in the public domain (so no Brooklyn as "Wesley/The Man in Black" from "The Princess Bride"...just a thought I had). It would also have to be right for the year 1996 (so no Captain Jack Sparrow). I find myself thinking something like Zorro, or the Phantom of the Opera, but I really have no clue.
--I'd like to think that SOME of the clones will wind up staying with Thailog, and the rest will go back to Talon. I find myself thinking that at least Brentwood and Hollywood will follow Thailog, although someone pointed out that Brentwood was the one who seemed to consider "free will," so I could be completely wrong. But I would find it interesting if at least one of the clones actually LIKED working for Thailog, and so made an actual choice to stay with him.
--A lot of this 3-issue story arc seems centered on the theme of "relationships"--in the romantic sense. I mean, right off the bat, we have Goliath and Elisa's relationship, which of course branches off into the relationships (or lack thereof) between Elisa and Morgan (and Elisa and Jason, even) and Goliath and Delilah, which further extrapolates into the relationship between Delilah and Thailog. As for happy, healthy couples, we started issue #3 with the Xanatos Family, and we see a lot of Broadway and Angela, as well as Talon and Maggie. And all throughout the background of this we have Brooklyn in his SEARCH for a relationship (and does anyone but me wonder what his reaction will be when he hears Maggie's hurt--assuming there's room for that in the next issue)?

Okay, here it is. My #4 review:

First off, I LOVED this issue. Better yet, I really enjoyed the experience of being Masque! As I mentioned earlier, when I went to grab my copy of Masque, the Comic clerk smiled and said, "Oh! You're a fan of that series, are you? Be happy you got a copy now -- I doubt I'll have any at the end of the day."

To which I could only reply: "Really? THAT'S GREAT!" He replied, "Oh yes, that's a very popular title for us."

So four issues into Clan Building, and my comic shop's pretty confidant about it. As I wrote earlier in the CR: "Oh happy day." Though it DOES make me feel sorry for those who've had problems trying to get ANY of the comics (like VA's idiotic comic dudes). Shame y'all can't come to my Comic Shop in Phoenix . . . .

Anyways, onto my review:

**********MAJOR SPOILERS FOR #4**********

The first thing I noticed (besides the lighter cover, and if its a minor cost issue, I'll live.) was the darker inside cover. The previous issues had some yellow text and the main GARGOYLES title had that usual Gold-ish glow to it. Not in Masque: It's all in gray-scale. But I don't mind: The story is in full swing like the sun has finally set and we're well into night now.

Which couldn't be any more true. Within the first eight pages the Brownes are trick-or-treating at Robbin's House, Hudson is dishing OUT the candy at Robbin's House, the Xanatos Masque is in full swing, and Thailog's having a ball in the Labyrinth. Good lord.

It was great to see Jeffrey Robbins again. He reminds me alot like my own grandfather (who fought in Korea and is paralyzed . . . though not from the war.) Besides the physical and historical similarities, my grandpa has the same fire-in-the-belly that gives him the will to work and learn ("I learned Braille when I was nearly (50?) and I'll learn a whole NEW way of reading at 80 if I have to!"). So yes, great to him relaxing by the fire and obviously aware of Hudson's "lie of omission."

I'm a geek about the Eyrie Building since I first saw City of Stone (seeing them crash into that little park behind the glass was SO cool), so I love Xanatos hosting a party right there. But I do wonder -- Has he the chance to host other parties since "Awakening?" I kinda doubt it . . . what with prison and the constant destruction of the Castle (more on this later).

I LOVE Margot Yale and Brendan Quarters (Yay! Last name!) I remember asking about Brendan when reading "Invitation Only" so I was glad to be treated with him here. Man . . . how does he put UP with that woman??

Anyways, all the costumes were great (and I can only imagine which Disney Princess Elisa will become NEXT Halloween :P ), though Lex's DID scare me just a tad. (I wonder if Owen helped with the costume making . . . .)

It was also great to see Judge Roebling, and I honestly was surprised to see him, after having nothing more than a guest spot in "VOWS" (yeah, no one gets just a "guest spot" in Gargoyles!). He does seem more comfortable with the gargoyles, which I was happy to see.

I absolutely love the writing because while the comic still isn't the same as the TV show, some parts just ring absolutely perfect -- which bring back the stellar voice cast. Best Examples: When Morgan asks Elisa if he even IS getting his shot, when Xanatos finishes Ambassador Chung's sentence, when Talon shouts he's not leaving Maggie, Thailog's maniacal laugh, and of course: Owen's monologue to Goliath and Thailog.

I always geek out about Owen, and I've been doing so whenever I see him simply APPEAR in the past issues, but here, I can REALLY be proud of him, where he's able to take Thailog's weapons AND critize how he has to take care of repairing the castle time and time again (I think the ONLY other time this was addressed was when Xanatos called Owen to bring up the cleaning crew in AWAKENING: PART II . . . or was it III? I've lost count. :P ).

But yes, Owen's stern manner in front of creatures that would send shivers down the spine of nearly ANYONE (Thailog of course, but even Goliath's rage is impressive -- hey, it did make Dracon prematurely white haired!) always earns my praise. So yes, LOVED Owen in this issue.

Other randomn thoughts:
- Alex's costume is STILL so adorable I wish I had one as a baby. I actually told my mother this! Her reply, "Well, you DID have some cute costumes." But a gargoyle? "Well, no . . . how was I supposed to know?!"

- Sarah's children as Jackel and Hyena -- that made me laugh.

- The Chung family seems to grow. It's quite clear that Ambassador Chung and Terry are related, but I'm still wary on adding Tri (from the Gargoyles Taskforce) into the tree as well . . . maybe an older brother??

- Ambassador Chung doesn't LOOK like a gargoyle, but she does look older than what I would have imagined, at least if Terry is so young, thus why I think Tri's maybe an older brother to Terry.

- Thailog's hovering/gliding down on Goliath was some nice art, IMO. Very menacing and commanding!

- I got a kick out of Fox's eye mask . . . someone said it looked redundant. I think it was more coy on Fox's part.

- 36/2: The mystery continues! Maybe a ranking system??

- New Girl is intriguing me, and I wish I got to see her face when someone tells her "Just go to the tallest tower in the world!"

- Finally, Goliath is having a REAL rough night. Getting dumped pratically twice by Elisa and being stabbed by your "son." Oy.

Finally, after finishing the comic the first time through, I looked at the cover again, and I finally realized, "Hey that WASN'T Demona . . . it was Delilah the whole time!" So I'm slow at times . . . at least I finally got it (should have realized earlier -- Demona doesn't have a glass-shard shaped earing like Delilah's)

My next question is something that I've wanted to ask, but couldn't think of a way to ask it without breaking the rules. The reason I didn't ask about where the Pack was during CoS is because I am pretty sure that they were in the process of an 'upgrade' at the time.

DPH and Tony> Greg is doing timeline reveals almost every day now. You can't wait for the "This Day in Gargoyles History" feature to get there?

JURGAN> Norma Rae is definitely not Maggie's name. Real or staged. Thailog was making fun of her. "Norma Rae" is a 1979 movie about a woman from the south, the title character played by Sally Field, who gets involved in the labor union in the textile factory she works in. Field won an Academy Award for the role.

I'm amused by the fact that Thailog has seen "Norma Rae". I somehow doubt Xanatos programmed that in there.

Hmm, Goliath cites and quotes classic books. Thailog cites a classic movie. Cute.

TTT: Watch "Vows," which is the episode right before "City of Stone," and you'll see who Judge Roebling is. I don't think anything else has been revealed about him.

SPOILERISH

It makes sense to me that it'd be a while before we saw NO, and not just because of Terry. No doubt the NO's are eagerly watching the progress of one of the other secret, hidden races on Earth as it's revealed to humanity. They're going to want to see how the gargoyles manage first. If they were wiped out in a couple years, the NO's would probably take that as a sign to secure their borders more tightly. There'll be heated debates over the revelation issue over the next few years, until Terry shows up at NO, which will give the pro side a lot more ammo ("You see? We can't hide behind our curtain anymore, and what if the next person who finds us is with the military? Better we be revealed now, on our own terms.").

As for the Chung family: Now that I think about it, I imagine Ambassador Chung must move around a lot. Terry probably stays with a family member in New York when she does, and I'm guessing that's Tri. It could be his father, but if so I doubt they're still married, or he'd have come to the party with her. It could also be an uncle or something. And what is Ambassador Chung's position anyway? Someone suggested Ambassador to the U.N., which makes sense because that would put her living in New York, which, apparently, she does. If she's an ambassador to some other country, Terry probably spends a lot of time with "Uncle Tri" (I'm calling him that until we find out more). Actually, if she's not U.S. ambassador to the U.N., the most likely alternative is that she's ambassador from some other country (Asian, I'm sure) to the U.S. But then, why would her family live in America? Maybe they left their home country and she took an ambassador job to be closer to them? Actually, that seems implausible- she talked about "not being able to take Terry anywhere," which suggests a close relationship, and most likely that they still live together. So what seems the best guess to me, unless someone has a better idea, is that Ambassador Chung is the U.S. ambassador to the U.N., and her son Terry stays with Tri when she leaves town, who is either her brother or her ex-husband.

Wow, it really says something about the depth of the Gargoyles universe that three bit characters can be subjected to this much analysis. It also shows that, despite all the Ask Greg revelations, there's still a lot left to speculate on.

So we're assuming or guessing that the Terry on pg 1 of #4 is the son of the Ambassador Chung at the White House, thus the connection to the New Olympian Spin-off? Do we think that Detective Tri Chung from #3 is also related to Terry and the Ambassador?

Plus, I'd like to know more about that Judge in #4. Thank you.

TONY - Here's a quote from the description of the projected "New Olympians" spin-off that may answer your question (and I'm sorry that we didn't do so earlier; I suppose that we were all too used to everyone here knowing about Greg's MasterPlan).

In The New Olympians, a young man named Terry Chung decides, somewhat rashly, to sail around the world on his own, only to be caught in a storm near New Olympus, and rescued by Sphinx, a young female New Olympian based roughly on the Sphinx of Greek mythology, though with a more humanoid build. When she brings him to New Olympus, his arrival serves as the catalyst for the New Olympians to at last reveal themselves to the outside world, sending a delegation (consisting of Taurus, Talos, and Sphinx) to the United Nations in Terry's company. The human world would finally enter into diplomatic relations with New Olympus, Terry's mother serving as an ambassador to the New Olympians from the United Nations.

Yes, exactly. I can't get it from them.

You keep telling me to "bite the bullet" Greg, and I'm starting to get annoyed. You seem to assume that I am simply reluctant to buy from SLG or Amazon, that I have some reserve of money that I'm merely uncomfortable with spending.

I do not have a job. I don't get allowance, or alimony, or social security, or worker's comp, or veteran's benefits, or any other conceivable form of income. My parents generously cover my food, rent, insurance premiums, and textbooks. Everything else is student loans. Even the money that I just "got" from my father was actually him reimbursing me for buying textbooks with money that I don't have, so I probably shouldn't spend it anyway. I have a tiny savings left over from the one job I ever had, but I can't let the balance go below a certain amount, because I have to buy textbooks each semester from my account, before being reimbursed.

***Spoilers warnings**
Got issue #4 and thought it was the best read of the comic so far. Its pacing was really the best and the art from Nir Paniry was just great. The panels were really easy to follow. Something I thought wasn't the case with Hedgecocks panelings. I always had to look carefully and see whats being shown, yet this wasn't the case with Paniry's art. For a moment I thought that Hedgecock actually drew this as the credits said so, but I realised as a comic reader that this can't be the same artist. I remembered that from issues #4-6 were suppose to be different artists. As Greg B mentioned earlier and confirmed my memory of past comic news. Paniry is good at conveying the series' style with movement and a touch of his own style. Goliath was like on steroids! My only gripe was the action bits as the panels were too triangular and squished with the characters that were in it. Too cramped for me to enjoy. I like things to be more seen. Again Greg W's writing is top notch, right into the constant continuation of where his subplots are going and being revealed. The party moments for the characters, Hudson and the trick & treaters, Eliza/Delilah/Goliath moments, were all good. Now to me, I know nothing about the Chungs and nothing about the New Olympians. That new girl in the labriynth was going to tell Goliath at the party about Thailog and clones coming, yet everything has happened already from Goliaths POV. So she'll show up too late for sure, with not really any news. Thought it was neat that Thailog would get his clone "clan" together. It only makes sense from what I understand of their origins. Is Hudson going to tell (whats his name, it eludes me right now), what he is? Was wondering where that was going. Now as for the ending, it sure makes the cover to #5 pointless after that kind of ending. Perhaps it shouldn't have shown us this? Maybe have it off panel(s) and just hint to us what happened and show us the scene as a splash page into the start of #5 would've been better? Enjoyed it and again just can't wait for #5.
Was stymied about the cover stock change, but it don't really matter. I mean we still get a comic right? If it means less spending for SLG on print costs then so be it. I mean did anyone notice issue #6's listing in Previews? The cover price is going up to $3.95 US. Which for me in Canada may well be over $5.00 CAN now. No big deal all smaller comic publishers are costing the same cover price these days. Let SLG do what they need to do to stay afloat and for this book.

WARNING: SPOILERS

Overall, this issue was very fun. For some reason, a lot of the panels felt more confining than they did in previous issues, but if Paniry is a storyboard artist, that might be where that comes from. I think he is better with facial expressions, though. None of the characters in this issue looked stoned (except maybe for the random guests at the White House).

I like Billy and Susan's costumes. So their mom is a Quarryman and she lets her kids dress up as convicted felons. I'm surprised stores were still stocking Pack costumes, unless she made them herself or saved them from another holiday. Still, I got the sense that it was either that or gargoyles, and ironically, she went with what she probably imagined was the lesser of two evils. Unless I'm reading too much into it.

I liked the way Thailog's guns work. Would stand to reason that he'd probably have a few items stored for a rainy day in case things didn't go as planned in "The Reckoning." And its been said in here already, but I'll say it again, he had some great dialogue. The attitude remains.

Owen also had some good dialogue. Liked the game of poker he was playing with Thailog. Xanatos's security force also seems to have grown in size. And I get the feeling that Delilah's line close to the end of the third issue might be some foreshadowing as to what choice she'll make in #5. But I've been wrong before. For some reason, I had thought that Elisa already knew about Delilah. Nice little moment between them, hopefully they'll get more interesting (the moments, I mean).

As far as Elisa is concerned, if I remember correctly, she alluded to normalcy in only one episode of the cartoon, and then I think it was mostly her fatigue talking. Issues 3 and 4 lead me to believe that maybe it was her id taking advantage of her fatigue. Others have said (better than me, probably) that this "normal life" thing did seem to come out of nowhere. But I suck at analyzing people. I majored in Communications, not Psychology. Anyway, I can't wait to see how this comes to a head.

And the Labyrinth Girl's going on an adventure. I too wonder how much longer we'll have to call her that. It's not like Greg to leave characters nameless. Hell, before this issue, we'd seen Judge Roebling only once in the gargs universe, and HE had a name. Still does, evidently.

Here's hoping Issue #5 comes out on time.

* SPOILERS *

I wonder if Greg Weisman is (despite his disappointment over having revealed as much as he did at "Ask Greg"), deciding to at least have some fun with his revelations. In #3, he has Elisa, during the build-up to the Double Date, talk to both Officer Morgan and Jason Canmore - though he said that that was as much because he needed both for Elisa's road to the break-up with Goliath. And now in #4, he brings in a kid named Terry and hints that he's the future Terry Chung of "The New Olympians" spin-off.

It makes sense that "The New Olympians" wouldn't take place for a while, anyway; the human world needs to get over its shock of discovering that gargoyles exist before discovering next that there's a whole community of Greek mythology creatures requesting admission to the United Nations. That way the two revelations can be focused on separately.

!*!*!*!*!*!! SPOILERS *!*!*!**!*!*!

I think it is very likely that Ambassador and Terry Chung are who we think they are. Greg never said the New Olympian series was going to occur during the 90s or even the early 2000s. I've long suspected that it may be a bit further down the road from where we are in Gargoyles right now, and given Terry's age, I think it'll be at least a decade (in universe time) that we see the NO spinoff.

I think that is very cool because we have this kid who is gonna be a major character in his own huge adventure... but right now he is just running around trick or treating with his peers. It'll be very neat to watch his progress.

Though judging by Terry's age, it won't be for a while (unless, as I think Matt said, Greg W is just teasing us with a curveball.)> I find that highly improbable unless Greg Weisman has decided to change names of the human characters in the NO spin-off.

A couple of questions do arise. Is it safe to assume that eventually slg will correct its master copy of issue #4 with the correct credits and at some point in the future there will be an issue 4 reprint that has the correct credits? If that is the case, will that not bring the value of all our original copies up?

My friend Ryan called me last night to tell me he picked up the comic and liked it and he congratulated me on the Etched in Stone thing. He had lots of nice things to say, but said that Goliath's face on the last page made him laugh. I looked at the page a lot today and a couple thoughts came to my mind.
1. How WOULD someone look while being stabbed in the gut?
2. Visually speaking, comic books are less life like than animation because in animation you get a sense of movement and change from picture to picture. Anyone who has randomly paused a home movie or an episode of Gargoyles will admit that people make funny faces all the time without us noticing it. We are seeing one frame of Goliath here.

By the way, for anyone who is interested, lots of things need updating at GargWiki after this issue (Judge Roebling, all the Clones, the Chung's, etc).

Review> SPOILER ALERT!!!
Everything I was going to say has pretty much already been said. It's incredible how much information there is in the little details. Terry's cameo, for example, seems simple and straightforward enough, but for die-hard fans it provides a wealth of information about the timeline for the New Olympians spin-off. And I'm sure that a year from now, when I re-read this issue, there'll be all kinds of hints and foreshadowing that I don't recognize as such today.

BTW, the ending was incredible, but the shock of it was somewhat diminished by the illicit preview many of us got of the cover to #5. It was exciting when it popped up several weeks ago, but now I regret having seen it. I can understand why Greg was unhappy about it.

END SPOILERS

Does anyone remember the comic contest that Ed posted here back on March 19? With two issues now under our belts, I decided just for fun to see how well the eight entrants are doing. It looks like Samuel is ahead with only two points...

But there are some questions that need clarification. If you're looking back with me, questions A-8 and B-7 talk about a character being "featured" in an issue. How would you define "featured"? Sevarius and Fang both appeared in Al's telling of the clones' backstory, but neither had lines, so I would not consider them "featured". For my own purposes, I'm going to consider a "featured" character one with speaking role.

Anyway, I can't wait for #5. It was actually less than two months between three and four (March 28 to May 16 is only 46 days). I hope #5 continues the trend so I can consider it a birthday present.

***Questions on #4. Possible Spoilers***

Questions:
1) You guys seem excited to see Judge Roebling. I don't recall any judges from the tv show. What am I missing? Something from a Gathering?

2) Again, Ambassador Chung you all seem familiar with. What am I missing this time? Can we assume she's related to Detective Tri Chung in #3?

I don't own #3 yet, but #4 compares definitely lighter than #1 & #2 because of the covers. The covers on #1 and #2 feel stronger and more durable. Maybe #4 is missing a page that should say "Masque" with a picture of something in the background or maybe it got cut last minute. I think we'll find out eventually.

*!*!*!*!*!*!*! SPOILERS *!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!

My Review For Gargoyles #4, "Masque"...

- First off, after reading it and beginning my review, I can't help notice that there isn't a title page for this issue. I can't find the title "Masque" anywhere in the book. That's not really a problem, but it did make me wonder why not.

- So, we left off with Trick or Treat and we pick back up with Trick or Treaters. Billy and Susan have obviously aged a couple years. They seem to still be big Pack fans, which is pretty cool. And then there is Billy's friend Terry. Now, I don't think any of the more hardcore fans of the series have any doubts about who he is (though Greg could throw us a curveball). I'm actually pleased that something I guessed about a long time ago is correct: "The New Olympians" spinoff is probably gonna take place roughly a decade or more after "Hunter's Moon". Terry's apparent age confirms that. It is cool that we know this kid is gonna end up being a major figure, but at the moment he is just a kid dressed up for Halloween as Goliath, as many kids were in the mid-90s.

- Little things I liked about this first scene: Sarah glancing at the Quarrymen (who are, by the way, making a presence as Castaway said, but NOT smashing Jeffrey's gargoyles), the "Nice mask" line was such a homage to one more of our great voice actors: Greg Weisman!, Gilly and Bronx by the fire.

- Since "Invitation Only", I, and others, have suspected Hudson and Bronx were on their ways to Robbins' house for the night, so that wasn't much of a shock. The conversation between Jeffrey and Hudson was fun. This is a very interesting relationship. Hudson's face in the last frame is the best part for me. I studied it for a while trying to figure out what Hudson was thinking and feeling. It seems to me that he wants to tell Robbins but is a little afraid. He is happy to have a friend, but sad that he has to cover up the truth. Feeling you can't be truthful to a friend because you'll lose the friend is an awful feeling. I hope Hudson figures out what to do. I wonder what he told Jeffrey about Bronx... "This is my shaved giant web-eared dog... don't worry, he's house trained..."

- It is weird to see so many people at the Eyrie. I believe most often we see very small groups of people there and the large crowds tend to be fleeing the building. Broadway and Angela are fun and they bring in yet another Wizard of Oz reference to the series. (As a side note: I loved seeing the stuffed Toto because Toto was a Cairn Terrier and my dog Gus is descended from him. The many Wiz Of Oz lines in "Hound of Ulster", not to mention the cairns in the episode, are a part of the reason that Cuchullain is my Comment Room avatar. He's a reference to my dog, sorta. Anyway, now I know what my dog would look like as a Gargoyles comic character.)

- And then we have Lexington... boy, THAT'S an interesting costume. Where have we seen THAT before. Oh, fun.

- Not sure how I feel about Elisa as Jasmine... Give me some time to think about that.

- There are so many neat little touches in this one I don't know if I could mention them all, but a short list is Morgan and Broadway chatting and Angela's dissaproval of Elisa bringing a date. Great stuff.

- Back to the Labyrinth. Thailog starts mowing everyone down. Glad Thailog was prepared for Talon's eel blast. Thailog vs. Claw was a lot of fun.

- I didn't expect to see Judge Roebling again. He was fun here, a very different side of him than we saw in "Vows".

- And then things get awkward. The meeting we've all been waiting for. Goliath, Delilah, Elisa and Morgan. Oh Lord. I love how the crowd seems to dissappear as these four live out their awkward moment.

- Brooklyn... Here we go again. Poor, poor Brooklyn. And Angela's attempt to make him feel better looks like it's backfiring.

- I didn't like the Broadway and Lex chowing down frame. It was kinda gross. Suddenly these two are acting like animals.

- Off to the White House and we meet Ambassador Chung, thats neat. I'm sure we'll see more of her. And Alex... I'm glad that Greg is addressing what appears to be the rapid aging of little Alex. Very interesting.

- The Illuminati Waiter is neat. "Two", eh? Greg got an eyebrow raise out of me with that one.

- Back to Claw vs. Thailog. I do wonder why Claw didn't use his eel blast against the Clones. Maybe he didn't want to hurt them. And Maggie trying to talk sense into the Clones is neat. But they don't even really consider her opinion, they just are not programmed that way, I guess. Pisses Thailog off anyway, Maggie is nearly killed. Wow.

- Probably one of the neatest moments in this episode is when Malibu tells Thailog that Goliath took Delilah on a date and for a moment Thailog gets this face like he feels rejected or shocked or something... and then he laughs! What a great character. I think that laugh is hiding something though. Jealousy at least.

- Delilah and Morgan standing on their own. How awkward is that?

- More Elisa and Goliath drama. I mean really, they have their feelings for each other, but what are they supposed to do? I have no clue. At this point I'm not sure how it's gonna work out.

- And then we have our closing scene. Owen shines in this one, so cool and collected, and his comment about endlessly rebuilding the Castle was hilarious. I kinda wondered if Bruno is among those troops. And then Thailog takes his cheap shot. Ouch. That has gotta hurt. Goliath has had a rough few nights. First his wing gets shot up, then the next night his heart is broken and he gets stabbed by his own flesh and blood. Talk about a bad week.

- My overall opinions on this episode are very good. The story was great, and it'll leave me lots to think about before our next issue. I did not hate the art, but I think Issue #3 was the best we've seen so far. The characters look pretty good all in all though, very dynamic. It is also neat to see shots like the half Thailog, half Goliath face and the double date couples alone in a crowded room. I'm eagerly awaiting Issue #5. Thanks for another great one Greg, David, Dustin, Greg Stephanie, Dan, Jennifer and Scott!!!!

* SPOILERS *

A lot of the things that I could say have already been mentioned in the other reviews, but I'll list a few things that stood out to me.

I was particularly amused by Lexington's costume (it's probably a good thing that Goliath didn't see that, though I suspect that he's got more important things to worry about), Billy and Susan going trick-or-treating as Jackal and Hyena (evidently it hasn't registered with them that the Pack have turned out to be definitely not heroes), the cameo by Terry Chung and his mother (one of those scenes that's even more fun if you've read the "Ask Greg" revelations or saw the "New Olympians" treatment at the Gathering - and since Terry's apparently a pre-teen at the moment, I agree that the spin-off's clearly not due for a while), and Judge Roebling's cameo. (He seems to be getting along better than one might have expected with Goliath.)

I'd also picked up on the possibility that Alex is growing quicker than normal, and on the significance of the shift in the Illuminati greetings. And Owen was a lot of fun here in his no-nonsense stand-off with Thailog. (And I got a kick out of Thailog's "maniacal laugh" line.)

And we finally know Brendan's surname.

I'm looking forward now to #5, where we see how things wind up.

Got it. read it. Loved it.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

#1) The artwork is decent, but looks too anime. I don't care for it except for: A) Hudson (Pg. 3); B) Claw (Pg. 9); C) Talon's sorrow at Maggie's injury; D) The side-by-side of Goliath and Thailog's face.

I DID NOT LIKE Goliath's reaction to being stabbed. Looked way too funny.

#2) I LOVED Greg's writing. I especially loved such lines as: A) "That's quite enough, Norma Rea!" B) "Wow. I haven't had a maniacal laugh in weeks." C) "...And I have transcended any pleasure from supervising the endless reconstruction of this castle."

GREAT STUFF! LOL Funny!

#3) We finally learn a little more about this "36," "32," jazz. Now we have an older, black person who says "2."

Still don't know what it means, but who ever in this room mentioned the seniority thingy, like Xanatos is father down the totem pole could be right. It could be a rank, as well. Don't know yet.

4) Morgan Morgan seems too comical this time around. Same with the judge.

Over all, I loved it.

Loved it! LOVED IT!

************SPOILERS!! SPOILERS!!*********************

Okay...you know how "last" Halloween Elisa was dressed as Belle, from "Beauty and the Beast"? And how in the TGC episode "Seeing isn't Believing" one of the major comments (or gripes) was that Elisa looked a lot like Princess Jasmine from "Aladdin"? Well, guess what she's going as for Halloween this year? :-D

This is definitely the middle act. No beginnings or resolutions, just action and advancement all the way.

--Billy and Susan (dressed as Jackal and Hyena, of ALL people!) are trick-or-treating with a boy named Terry (who has an Asian cast to his features--this, coupled with a comment from Ambassador Chung(!) later in the comic leads me to wonder if we may not see "The New Olympians" for a while...either that, or Greg is yanking our chains). Sarah is there, along with a couple of silent Quarrymen on patrol. And who should answer their knock at the door but...Hudson ("Nice mask" indeed). And yes, we were right, he IS spending the evening with his friend Jeffrey Robbins, who is surprised to hear that the kids thought Hudson was wearing a mask.... Hudson just ducks the question with a "We all wear masks" line. How many people think Jeffery will figure things out within the next few issues?
--We FINALLY learn Brendan's last name!
--It's fun to see anti-gargoyle Margot chatting with the clan. And nice costumes for Angela (Dorothy), Broadway (Lion) and Lexington (Post-modern Tin Man--er, cyborg...a very "Future Tense"-like cyborg!).
--Morgan and Elisa show up. Morgan as Sherlock Holmes, and Elisa...well, I've already pretty much said it. Angela is none too happy about Elisa being on a date (and she even refers to Goliath as "Father" here).
--Cut to the Labyrinth where all hell is breaking loose. Apparantly, Thailog's blasters are able to absorb the Mutate's electric discharges and redirect them right back again. And yes, he is there to reclaim his "property".
--Judge Robling returns! I wondered when we'd see him again. A bit of an awkward moment when he thinks Delilah is Demona. Poor bastard had the right idea of getting out of there. Especially when Morgan and Elisa show up...and Elisa truly meets Delilah for the first time. Nice panel of the four of them all alone in a little pool of light.
--You may have wondered why I didn't mention Brooklyn's costume. He isn't wearing one...he's too depressed. And yet, a smile and a few words from Angela provide all the motivation he needs to hurry off to change.
--We're off to the White House where not just Xanatos, but Fox and Alex as well, are attending another party. And who should they meet but Ambassador Chung(!), who notes that Alex seems pretty big for his age. While dinner is served, Xanatos moves off to meet with one of the serving staff. We have a sort of repeat of the "Number Greeting"--Xanatos greets with 36, as usual and the server responds with...2. Uh-oh.
--Hell is continuing to break loose at the Labyrinth, with the clones obeying Thailog's command. Maggie tries to give them an inspirational about free will, and Thailog prepares to shoot her. So Talon attacks Thailog...and the shot goes wild causing part of the wall to collapse on Maggie. With her injured, Talon occupied trying to help her, and Claw restrained by the clones, Thailog notices he's missing someone. Malibu tells him about Goliath and Delilah, and Thailog has his first good maniacal laugh in weeks before heading off with the clones to crash the party. Al suggests sending someone to warn Goliath, and who volunteers but...the new kid. Hmmm.
--I love Morgan. For starters he's a very perceptive guy. He figures out that "G" is Elisa's ex...the one she broke up with that day...the reason he's getting his shot..."Assuming I AM getting my shot...?" Like I said, perceptive. And I just love his "So, we having fun yet?" to Delilah when both their respective dates head off for another heart-to-heart.
--We have another discussion where Elisa admits that seeing Goliath with Delilah hurt, and that "tonight was a mistake." More specifically, HER mistake. But that it still doesn't change anything. And then she runs off...which is when Thailog shows up complimenting Goliath on the show.
--Thailog (who refers to Golaith as "Father" as well) has brought the rest of the clones, and his two guns. Oddly, only the guns displease Owen, who has called out the (obviously re-staffed) Xanatos Goon Squad. Owen has a great line here about having "transcended any pleasure received from supervising the endless reconstruction of this castle." A nice nod to how often the Eyrie got trashed in the series. However, Owen is no saint, offering to call off security and send up Delilah in exchange for disarmament. This, naturally, outrages Goliath, but Owen points out that he's not trading Delilah...she will still have a choice (that whole "free will" thing again.)
--While they wait (and there's a great half-n-half shot of Goliath and Thailog's faces) Thailog decides to satisfy some curiosity...what would happen if he popped a blade from his wristguard and stabbed Goliath in the abdomen! :-o
And that's where the comic ends...man, I really HATE bi-monthly schedules.
--Well, now that the summary is done, I must say the art was a little...uneven for me here. For the most part I thought it was good (I like the gang in their costumes...especially Elisa and Angela). However, I did think the faces of the kids at the beginning were a little too cutsey for me. And Broadway's (and even Lexington's!) salivating over food (complete with tongues hanging out) on page 12 seemed a little overboard. And I'm not too sure about Goliath's expression in the last panel of the last page (but then again, what look would a person being stabbed have on their face, anyway?). Overall, though, it's all right. Thailog looks great, anyways.
--Other notes: I STILL want to see Talon's full reaction to the clan being back with Xanatos. Also, I feel sorry for Morgan and Delilah since this evening will probably end with their respective dates trying to get back together again.
Looking forward to the next issue.

And that's it from me. Until next time, farewell. ****Blaise rushes back out of the Room through the hole he has made. Oddly enough, the thing seems to rewind itself until the wall is whole again.****

"Build a man a fire, keep him warm for a day. Set a man on fire, keep him warm for the rest of his life."--Terry Pratchett's "Jingo"

Wow, I'm the first one to get it this time, although someone else has probably posted in the time it took me to write this. Spoilers ahead. In fact, if you don't want spoilers, skip the whole post.

**********************SPOILERS*********************

The art seems off in this issue. I'm one of those who generally like Hedgecock's art, but it seems worse than usual here. That's mainly in regard to crowd scenes- small scenes are still pretty good. I'm gonna go page by page now.

Billy and Susan: It took me a minute to realize it, but they're dressed as Jackal and Hyena. Terrific callback. They're trick-or-treating along with a kid dressed as a gargoyle. Their mom looks uncomfortably at the Quarreymen who walk past. No doubt she's afraid of what Castaway will think of a member escorting a gargoyle costumed child. The other boy is called Terry- more about that later.

The kids get goodies from Brooklyn and Freddie Krueger, and then, after complaining about bad masks, meet Hudson. Susan gets in Greg's "Nice mask" line.

Yay, Robbins! I love Robbins. He apparently didn't think Hudson was in costume- and, ironically, he's right.

On the next page, we arrive at the Eyrie Building and see a big crowd scene, and here's where the art looks weird. A lot of the people look like caricatures. Also, I swear that's Mace Malone in the front, but that's obviously impossible. And we get Margot chewing out Brendan (Quarters) again, allegedly for being "cliche." I wonder, though, if it's really because she just doesn't like gargoyles and doesn't want her husband dressed up as one. Those two have had an odd relationship with the gargoyles, but it often seems like they've never met them at all.

Oh, I love the gargoyles' costumes. Broadway is a fun Cowardly Lion, and Angela is absolutely adorable as Dorothy (with a stuffed Toto in her basket!). Lexington, though... it's a great costume, but downright disturbing in light of Future Tense.

Elisa seems to have a thing for Disney princesses. Jasmine, this time. The costume works well, I think, though it doesn't have any subtext I can see (unlike her Belle costume, which symbolized her relationship with Goliath). It is a little risque for a first date, I think- she might be sending Morgan the wrong message. And Morgan's Sherlock Holmes costume is nice, but the point, Morgan, is to dress as someone different from what you really are. So we ended up going with Morgan. While Jason and Elisa had more chemistry, if the point of seeing other people for Elisa to have a normal life, it wouldn't make much sense for her to go out with a convicted international terrorist. Also, I don't think he'd be able to leave house arrest, or whatever it is he's under. Meanwhile, Angela is pissed at Elisa. Protective of the big guy, isn't she.

Thailog: Awesome as always. I love the fact that he has individual teeth now. Also, he can deflect electricity, it seems.

Judge Roebling makes a surprising return, and he's one of the few who knows what Goliath really is.

Elisa and Delilah meet up for the first time, as well as Morgan and "G." Elisa seems pretty uncomfortable for a number of reasons.

Brooklyn is lonely as usual. Angela seems to be flirting with him. I'm sure she doesn't mean it, but she's sending the wrong message. And Broadway's seen eating a lot again. I didn't like Broadway's eating jokes at first, because it seems like that was all there was to him. Now, though, we know the guy well enough that it's okay for him to be gluttonous on occasion. Just please, never have him eat his hat again. Also, I wonder if the reason Angela left Broadway is because he's indulging himself so- his plateful is rather disgusting. I know she loves the lug, but that doesn't mean she can't get annoyed with him from time to time.

At the White House: First alarm is that we meet an "Ambassador Chung." Now she says her son "Terry" is back in New York trick-or-treating. We met a "Terry" at the beginning of the issue- could he be the future star of New Olympians? He's a little young for that, but I'm not sure when NO is set. Was one of the people on the Gargoyle Task Force also called "Chung?"

We see the family Xanatos again. I can't get over how cute Alex's costume is. Alex apparently has a favorite word: "Doggie!" Last time he said it was to Bronx, but now it's just random. It also seems he's growing a lot faster than one would expect, according to Chung. That makes sense, now that I think about it- he's too young to be saying any words at all. His grandmother's genes are showing in him. Also, a little subtle bit: Fox has a handheld mask that's the same as her tattoo. Seems rather pointless to me.

Xanatos meets with another Illuminatus. "Thirty-six. Two." Yikes. Looks like people were right, and the numbers are ranks. I find it a little cheap that all the people Hacker met last time were rank 36, but it's not completely implausible. This, then, is a very high-ranking member who probably is tasked with guiding the president to making decisions favorable to the society. I guess we'll find out more next time.

Thailog's fight with Claw looks great, but doesn't last long thanks to the clones. As I expected, once he showed up, they immediately snapped back into obedience. Thailog calls Maggie "Norma Rae." What's that mean? Is it that Maggie isn't her real name? My first thought was that it was a reference to something or other, but I can't think of what. Then I realized that, since Sevarius worked for Thailog and created the mutates, Thailog could know their real names. Then, did Maggie change her name after the mutation? That would make a lot of sense, actually. She's a wannabe actor, so she may have named herself after a character from a play.

Maggie gets herself hurt, and Derek jumps in to help. Yeah, he's not the brightest bulb in the box, but he's a good guy and doesn't lack for courage.

"Wow. Haven't had a good maniacal laugh in weeks." HAHAHA! Thailog is so great. I'm a little confused about one thing, though- in the close-up of his face, right before the maniacal laugh, it looks like he's wearing some sort of glasses or goggles. Does anyone know what that's about?

Derek stays with Maggie, and so Mysterious Unnamed Girl from last issue goes to warn Goliath.

Elisa continues to be uncomfortable with Morgan, and leaves him to make small-talk with Delilah. Oh, I would love to see more of that conversation.

Goliath and Elisa have another heart-to-heart, only Elisa seems to have turned even more irrational. She decides it was a "mistake" to go on a double date like this, "but it doesn't change anything." Bravo, Greg. I'd hate to go through all that drama last issue and then get over it so quickly. I hope we go some time before they finally admit to themselves that they're going to stay together forever.

Thailog drops in with more comedy, and Goliath just glares at him, rather than going over the top screaming. Goliath knew he was gonna come back sooner or later. But then Owen walks up, cool as ever, and demands the guns back. Because they were created by Xanatos Enterprises. He's still interested in recovering them from way back in Deadly Force. I briefly considered that he might turn into Puck. Were Alex in the castle, he could probably get away with it, but here it's unnecessary and probably impossible. It would also have confused new readers. Much better to have Owen simply being awesome as Owen.

Oh, dear, an army of commandos aiming at the gargoyles! It's not like they've ever beaten those before! It works, though, because Thailog is not afraid of them- he just doesn't want to take unnecessary risks with a fight. Another great line: "I have transcended any pleasure received from supervising the endless reconstruction of this castle." Yeah, haven't we all.

What I did not expect was Owen offering to turn Delilah over. However, he has no reason to feel loyalty to her. He also rightly points out that Goliath can't force her to stay unless he doesn't care about her right to make her own decisions. This, of course, is hampered by the fact that she may still be unable to make her own decisions. We'll see.

And then we end with Thailog absolutely owning Goliath. As soon as I saw the blade, I remembered the cover of issue 5, and I knew what was going to happen. You can't see the blade go in, but the look on G's face says it all. I don't know if he's ever taken such a vicious injury.

Great issue, except for a couple art problems. Speculation: Are we going to have a massive gargoyle brawl in front of all of these people? That could put a serious damper on Xanatos's plan, as they'd have to realize that those were real gargoyles. His sanctuary may no longer be safe for them, since having gargoyles on his party guest list would reveal his connection to them explicitly. More immediately, since Goliath's not going to be at peak condition, there are only four of our gargoyles at the castle who can fight, and five enemy ones, including Thailog. Delilah is still undeclared, but I don't see how she can resist Thailog. The clones are going to have to make a choice as to whose side they want to be on. It would be great if they split. Maybe Delilah takes Goliath's side and the others go with Thailog. That way Thailog has made a clear gain, pushing him more towards becoming the biggest adversary for the gargoyles.

We'll find out how all this ends come July!

*** SPOILERS ***

Gargoyles #4
Masque.

First of all, SLG needs to do much better quality control. David Hedgecock got the credit for the pencils when this is Nir Paniry's work. I'll get to the art in a bit.

Sarah Browne is taking her kids, Billy and Susan trick or treating.... wow, I am stunned that she is letting her kids dress as a pair of convicted felons (Jackal and Hyena). We also meet a young Terry Chung, obviously the son of Ambassador Chung, who we meet later in the issue.

Good to see Jeffrey Robbins again, when Hudson mentioned that he and Bronx had a prior engagement, that's where I thought he was going. After all, who else does he know?

Margot is, as always, a bitch. How does Brendan Quarters (after all these years, we finally get a last name... and a very waspy sounding one, like his wife's).

The gargoyles' costumes. I laughed my ass off. Angela as Dorothy and Broadway as the Cowardly Lion. Why do I get the feeling both costumes were Angela's idea? Lexington... well, I should have seen that coming, but I didn't. Future Tense Lexington is back.

Elisa shows up as Princess Jasmine, and she looks good. Looks just like her. Does she always dress as Disney princesses? Morgan looks good as Sherlock Holmes, and he makes sense as Elisa's date.

Which brings me to Elisa's choice. For years, we didn't know if she was going to date Morgan or Jason for this story. I'll admit, I was rooting for Jason for a while, because he and Elisa always had chemistry. But, Morgan makes more sense. For one thing, Morgan has less baggage, and I'm glad we didn't get another big back story in this issue. For another, Jason not being in jail, or even a hospital under police guard so soon after "Hunter's Moon" would have defied believability.

Judge Roebling looks very animated. Obviously his attitude changed, considering last time he was mostly freaked out when he saw Goliath and Demona. I'm guessing he's had quite a bit to drink.

I am so glad that Elisa did not meet Delilah for the first time off camera. Her first face to face meeting with her clone is something we had to see for ourselves. Obviously she doesn't get down to the Labyrinth too often. Good scene, there's a difference between intellectually knowing something, and actually having to face it.

Poor Brooklyn, still thinks he has a chance with Angela. Can't wait to see his costume next issue.

Ah, the White House. We don't see the President, but I didn't expect us too. Saves us from having to see a generic President, and saves us from heavily dating this comic by depicting him as Bill Clinton. Ambassador Chung, I believe, is plannd to be a major character in the planned "New Olympians" spin-off, which shouldn't take place for a few years since Terry is obviously way too young at this point.

"Thirty-Six"/"Two"... HA! I figured this was a ranking system. Xanatos, Matt and Castaway are at the bottom of the pyramid, Hacker is higher up. Now, we meet someone near the top. And he's a butler. Usually you'd epxect it to be an advisor to the President, the Karl Rove equivilant. Nope, I like this. He's near the top, and not high profile at all.

Thailog is back, and he's having a good time. I love how he called Maggie "Norma Rae". Ten points to anyone who gets that joke. Here's a hint, "You like me, you really like me!" He's got a lot of fun lines in this comic.

Another peek at "New Girl in the Labyrinth", is she going to get a name any time soon? I'm getting a little tired of typing out "New Girl in the Labyrinth". Something is up with her, not sure what, but I'm definitely getting a vibe.

I feel so bad or Morgan. I know some people see Elisa as being out of character, I don't. But I still think she's behaving like a flakey bitch. I know she's scared, but dragging Morgan and Delilah into the middle of this thing with Goliath is really unfair. I'm hoping she pulls herself together soon, because she owes three people an apology. Angela is right to be pissed at her.

Owen is cool. Love how he has the Xanatos Corporate Guard ready for action at a moment's notice. I also like how just because Xanatos' ended his feud with the gargoyles doesn't mean that Owen, and by extension Xanatos, is their friend. He's perfectly willing to give up Delilah, because she's not worth the damage to the castle.

... yep, Thailog's armed to the teeth. I need to ask Greg how he planned to get away with this on television. Obviously, since this is a comic book, no one will bat an eye. But a stabbing on an animated series... would never fly.

Great story, a lot more focused than #3 which was all over the place (but I did enjoy it). I can't wait for #5, especially to see Karine and Steph doing the art (who, I think should have been doing the art for this book from the get go). And on that note, it brings me to...

...Nir's pencils. He's not a bad artist. He's definitely better at conveying emotion on the characters, and staging scenes than Hedgecock is. I hear he's a storyboard artist, so that makes sense. That being said, and I did not care much for the way he chose to stylize the characters.

Overall, good issue. #5 can't come soon enough.

Is issue #4 supposed to have fewer pages in it? I was just noticing that my copy of issue #4 felt lighter than the previous issues.

#4> Got it, read it, loved it. No story spoilers here from me yet, but a reminder that there's a guest artist this issue (and the next few). First impression: It took a few pages to get used to, but the art's not bad. Not better, nor worse than Hedgecock. Some people were hard to recognize, but part of that was because of the Halloween costumes. Anyway, I'll comment more later after I've read it again.

Greg, how likely do you think it is that Midtown Comics will re-order #3? My original plan was to order 3 comics at a time, in July, but if they aren't going to have it in stock at that time, I'll need a different plan. They have #2 available right now, so it looks like they keep back issues, but I don't know much about how comic stores work.

Greg B> The Sopranos is in its' final season, isn't it? After reading your reccomendation (sp?), I'm now intrigued (for some unknown reason) to see it.

Unfortunately, I don't get HBO or Showtime or whatever channel it's on.

Though there's always the DVDs.

Here's hoping people keep the garbage questions to a minimum. With new material coming out, Greg is less likely to reveal things.

My comic shop opens at 1PM, and, I'm killing time before heading over by getting caught up on "The Sopranos"... which I recommend to anyone who likes good television, rent it from Netflix, don't watch the butchered A&E re-runs.

Can the scattered clan come together in time to stop Thailog and save Goliath?! And does Goliath want to be saved - now that Elisa has broken his heart…?"

Woot the questions are open again!
I hope Greg isn't bothered too much if we post pointing out where something he has said before doesn't seem to make sense... I really don't want to make myself obnoxious.

I actually got some money yesterday. My dad even said he'd reimburse me for the textbooks this semester, so I'll actually have enough to register for Convergence 2008 AND buy 3 issues of Gargoyles.

And school is officially over for the summer. Yays!

Sorry to be commenting again, but I thought I'd ask in here first. I think I might have found another person who might be interest in the comic. Now at this point, would picking up back issues make a difference as far as supporting the title (Since there's only 3 issues right now)?
Antiyonder - [antiyonder at yahoo dot com]

I think I'll wait on that. I figure if we handle the questions a little better, than the closing of the submiting function wouldn't need to be done as often.

Ment to repsond to that sooner. I just want to make sure I'm clear on this. Are they liscensed for an actual 3 years (2006-2008)or 3 years worth of material (18 issues)?

Thought I'd ask since our wait for the new issue is coming to a close, what days do your comic stores get the new issues? Here, we get to buy them on Thursday.

Just glancing through the archives... I noticed that the SLG avatars (Hudson, Goliath and Demona) were added a year ago yesterday. Just thought I'd mention it.

Okay, and to the comic people out there. I'm a little confused about the point of a "pull list". Two months ago I was having issues (no pun intended) tracking down Gargoyles #3 and after finally getting a copy, my local comic book store suggested I set up a pull list so that they would always have my copy(ies) on the day Gargoyles came out. So, naturally, I did this. Today I call the store just to verify that they do indeed plan to have my copy(ies) when I come by tomorrow and the dude on the phone says he'll have to call other stores and track down a couple copies first and doesn't know if he'll have any at the store tomorrow. I made him aware of my pull list thingie and he mumbled something about his distributor or something... I dunno. I'm just glad I called and found this out. I immediatly called a sister store to this one and they had a couple copies so I reserved one from there, unfortunatly I have to drive a bit out of my way, but at least I'll get it tomorrow. I guess my question to those more familiar with the comic book industry (ie Greg B, et al.) is this: Is this typical? What is the point of a pull list exactly? Is this store full of idiots or did I expect too much?

Yeah, we've spent 10 years speculating. I think now that Gargoyles is going again we are more in a "sit back and watch what happens and then talk about it" kinda stage. Man it's weird to say, "Now that Gargoyles is going again". Guess I'm still not over it. How cool for us.

B&C F>Yeah, that's the point, but I guess it was seen as chatting and I was scolded by rules. No harm, no foul. Water under the bridge. Let's move on.

Vertigo1> I know. Isn't that weird? Well I heard from my comic guy (who orders all this comics directly from Diamond) that Gargoyles #3 has had a recall, meaning any distributors who wanted to get rid of their copies from their stores because they weren't selling, were allowed to ship them back to the company, and cut their losses. And then SLG will and apparently has redistributed to those who had ordered them and didn't get them, hence the now available supply at Amazon.com.

So I'm really hoping my guy gets a shipment of #3's with #4. Please pray with me. If not, then I might be going with Amazon. And btw, if you all just want to call me "TTT" for short, that's fine. You don't have to type the "ony". It's all good. I also answer to "Tony", "T Love", "The Love" or "Love". "TTTony" is cool too, just feel free to save some typing.

Warcrafter: Why say "possible" when we haven't heard anything to make us second guess the May 16th date, right?

In fact, unlike all those other times in the past we actually HAVE a date (unlike, say, "Should be out this August . . . no, make that sometime September . . . or November, no December!").

I do think it is time to rejoice as we did back in March (well, maybe not AS crazy, but hey, it IS our first on-time comic!) :D

Or are many people moot on the celebration because we're still have problems getting #3 out to the rest of the faithful fandom?? :(
