Thanks for the reminder, Phoenician.

Yes, happy anniversary for Gargoyles.
Brian Bartoccini

Had an event scheduled earlier this week to take place tomorrow, and when I saw the date I couldn't but think that the date had some sort of significance . . . funnily enough, the answer would elude me throughout the remainder of the week, into all day today . . . until JUST after midnight in my timezone and the day was now October 24th, 2010. That's when it hit me . . .

Yes, SIXTEEN years ago today, "Awakening: Part One" first aired -- The next four days are in fact the anniversaries of when Parts Two through Five also aired, as the multi-parter originally aired daily that week, before settling on Fridays in the Disney Afternoon bloc. Just for the fun of it, I think I'll be watching Awakening tomorrow afternoon after my event :)

**Bakes a batch of midnight cookies and throws them on the Cookie Table**

So to everyone in the comment room, Happy Anniversary of Gargoyles' series premiere!

Bishansky: Sometimes I have second thoughts about having dropped canonical Spider-Man comics altogether after One More Day. You've just confirmed the wisdom of my decision. Thank you.

"Got a whip in my hand, baby, and a girl or husky at leather's end!" -Blue Oyster Cult ("The Red and the Black")

Of course, the comic also had Banquo getting cut off in mid-sentence when he called Elisa a "monster-loving wh-" - though, Standards & Practices aside, I doubt that Elisa would have given him time to finish that word! (I might have mentioned this before, but the scene reminded me of the very early days of TGS, when the staff was doing Breakdowns on a story where Castaway captured Elisa as bait for a gargoyle-trap, someone suggested that Castaway would call Elisa that, and Larry Davidson remarked that Castaway had better have Elisa safely tied up first unless he wanted to find out how hard she could punch. It was one of his sub-ordinates here, of course, but it still brought back memories.)

GREG B> "Yeah, comics don't have the same S&P as cartoons do. Hell, a recent Spider-Man comic had the Lizard eat his son, rape Dr. Connors' co-worker, and then activate the reptilian part of human brains to create a giant orgy in the middle of the city."

And that was one of their "All Ages" books

I am not making this up. And yes, it was as stupid as it sounds.

I LOVE Hunter's Moons. Eerie, in a way...

I have started a movie challenge whereby I am wtching all 475 Best Picture nominees and winners in 365 days. I am on Day #228 and movie #265... wish me luck!

To commemmorate the Hunter's Moon today, I reread the Timedancer story from "Clan-Building Volume Two", since the Battle of Rathveramoen is portrayed in it as taking place on the night of the Hunter's Moon. When Brooklyn referred to Demona as a "witch", I wonder if he had a slightly different word in mind - a word beginning with a different letter, but which might not be so acceptable to Standards & Practices....
Todd Jensen - [merlyn1 at mindspring dot com]

Heh; I find it appropriate that conversation has drifted to Back to the Future when the 25th Anniversary festivities are going on. So who's going to the theater to see the remastered film this Saturday/Monday?
Brainiac - [OSUBrainiac at gmail dot com]
There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!

Either that, or as Doc said, it could just be an amazing coincidence.

November 5, 1955 is only the apparent temporal junction point of the entire universe.

Sorry for the double post, but tonight is the Hunter's Moon. (It's also, according to my "this-day-in-history" desk calendar, the day that Jean-Paul Sartre - who, judging from the opening of "Leader of the Pack", seems to be one of Fox's favorite authors - refused the Nobel Prize for Literature.)
Todd Jensen - [merlyn1 at mindspring dot com]

Well, I did wonder if it was a "Back to the Future" reference from the 1955 part, but I didn't remember whether the November 5 date had featured in the movie or not.
Todd Jensen - [merlyn1 at mindspring dot com]

As fun as the Back to the Future films are, their time-travel rules are so wildly inconsistent that contact with the masterfully stable Phoenix would probably implode the fabric of space and time. XD

"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men." - Willy Wonka

No, that should be 350th anniversary; I made a mistake with my math.
Todd Jensen - [merlyn1 at mindspring dot com]

What's significant about that date? (Apart from being the 450th anniversary of the failure of the Gunpowder Plot, that is; I assume you didn't have that in mind.)
Todd Jensen - [merlyn1 at mindspring dot com]

I wonder if Timedancer Brooklyn ever visited November 5, 1955.

I saw the preview of "Darkwing Duck" #5 at Comics Continuum a couple of days ago. I particularly got a kick out of [SPOILER] the person in the crowd holding up a sign saying that Darkwing should get his own comic book, and Nega-Duck's belief that Magica de Spell is lacking in ambition by going after a dime - even if its Scrooge McDuck's No. 1 Dime. [/SPOILER]
Todd Jensen - [merlyn1 at mindspring dot com]

LANDON> Well, there are other factors there. Boom! is a much bigger studio than APE or SLG for starters, and Darkwing Duck hasn't suffered any major delays either.

When I see that picture of Negaduck and Magica working together I'm instantly reminded of Xanatos and Demona working together to create Coldstone.

Darkwing Duck #5 is out today and begins a new story arc. Negaduck has a review: http://negaverse.net/duck-knight/?p=310 In fact, all of http://negaverse.net seems to have a pretty active Darkwing Duck fandom and forum.

DC has released their January 2011 comic solicitations with a Young Justice #0 blurb and cover. It'll be coinciding with the cartoon and written by Greg and Spectacular Spider-Man/Young Justice writer Kevin Hopps: http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=875

Speaking of "Young Justice", anyone know what station might be carrying it in Canada-if any?

"Does anyone besides me suspect that the comment room is likely to remain near-dormant until "Young Justice" premieres?"

Todd: That, or new rumors about the supposed non-Gargoyles movie, some more random buzz from BOOM!, OR word of when issue 2 of Mecha-Nation comes out . . . those four things seem to be the most likely recurring topics these days . . .

"The suspense is terrible, I hope it lasts" -- Willy Wonka

Personally, while Spider-Man is indeed my favorite comic book character, I've never been particularly drawn in by the Marvel Universe in general. The X-Men, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and Captain America only interest me peripherally, while characters like Thor, the Hulk, Ant-Man, Punisher, and Daredevil have never carried even remote interest from me.

The DC Universe is just one where I'm attuned to a far greater proportion of the characters in general. So if Greg W only gets to work with one company's full range of characters, I'm immensely glad that it was DC.

Which reminds me, I've got to call Comcast soon. They've done something weird with their service so I can't get Cartoon Network anymore. Gotta get that straightened out.

Of course, I'd much rather be waiting eagerly for season 4 of Spectacular Spider-Man. I've always been more of a Marvel fan than a DC fan, especially Spider-Man, but C'est la vie.
