Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

Let me get this straight. Disney owns Gargoyles. They also own Marvel Comics. Am I missing something here? I wouldn't think that Marvel would have to pay a licensing few. Maybe we as fans should contact Marvel to try to get new Gargoyle comics.

Copying-and-pasting seems to be a bit too advanced of a "technique" for Goliath at the moment, LOL.

Battle Beast> Haha, I wish, but no, this is my first youtube video(not including my spacechem video which doesn't really count), not sure if I'll do another yet. I've got a few ideas though, but they will probably be a lot harder to pull off(the craziest one involves taking half of an episode of gargoyles and replacing certain scenes with MLP... I call it 'The Herd').

Masterdramon> Yeah, I honestly didn't see that coming, good to know for the future I guess, but what I'm really disappointed about is that Goliath did see it, was hoping for a "What sorcery is this?!" moment after hearing is own voice in the video.

Greg B> Check my recent comment on your blog post about the Formspring accounts. You did add all of Falstaff's gang, but you're still missing Matt, Bronx, and Fu-dog (I also threw in some of the other MST3K-types).

Indeed, I quite enjoyed that MLP video, and particularly the Formspring players' response to it. Probably shouldn't have been sent to Lunette, though... XD

And now, "Greg Weisman" responses from Falstaff's motley crew...

Points: My name is Points, He killed my father, prepare to die---Just kidding.

Pistol: ...

Bardolph: *BREATHS FIRE*

Mistress Quickly: Young Justice is entertaining...I like Kid Flash, he amuses me.

Mistress Doll: Ever met Edmund Tsabard? He's far more fun--and interesting--than that stick-in-the-mud Greg Weisman.

And in the MST3K! Mantra category...the recently revealed Number Twenty-Eight and betrayer of the Society's interests to King Arthur, Lieutenant Colonel William Stacy...

William Stacy: I have nothing but respect for a writer who thoroughly researches what he's writing about, even when it's fiction.

Rebel: Thank you so much! That was perfect, that was all I needed! :D Thanks!

Adam and Rebel> Actually, I believe that that is a likely possibility as well, considering that the only gargoyles that we've encountered their age are the two of them, within two story arcs (though, obviously Kermit and True don't count) I think that there was a subtle, purposeful connection.

Of course I may just be reading into things...I like to over analyze.

New "Greg Weisman" responses...

Coldfire: I watch some of his shows with Nashville, Brooklyn, Lexington, Angela, and Broadway...I enjoy a storyteller who is respectful towards all religious beliefs.

Amanda Collins: I love that song..."Will to Love"...it just rocks. And I loved W.I.T.C.H. as a kid.

Rand Robertson: S'cool. I like his shows. Sally didn't like watching cartoons, so I have some catching up to do on Young Justice, I only caught the pilot cuz' she was out of town that weekend.

Also...looks like Amanda has decided to found a pro-gargoyle tolerance group called the "Friends of Humanity." Anyone else here forseeing an activist named Graydon Creed taking over the Manhattan branch of the organization and perverting it? I'd definitely find it amusing - if rather darkly so - if the anti-mutant movement in this shared universe doesn't actually turn out to have a particular problem with gargoyles, whereas Castaway would likely be termed a "mutant sympathizer."

"Try to run, try to hide, break on through to the other side!" Jim Morrison of the Doors

It wouldn't surprise me too much if Lunette and Nashville end up becoming mates. Granted we don't know much about either of their personalities, but characters are never introduced without a purpose. Greg may have some other purpose in mind for Lunette but it's possible that she may be destined to be a future member of the Manhattan clan and Gnash's mate.
Rebel

I was reading through CB2 and thought that it would be cool if Nashville and Lunette become mates. Not only would that help the Manhattan clan grow but I think their children would have a very unique look.

Masterdramon> If I may respectfully disagree, I think that the following spinoffs could work on their own:

1. Dark Ages- It takes place before the events in the cartoon and comic. So while it would be a prequel to us, to the nonfans, it would likely come off as a cartoon in the medievel ages centering around a clan of Gargoyles.

2. New Olympians- It was planned as a series before Gargoyles, and aside from aspects of the Garg Universe, it shouldn't depend too much on the original show.

But just to be clear, I do agree with 2198 working on it's own.

Antiyonder

Dead Phoenix > I LOVE your video. Such clever little touches, like the pony carriage setting down with the sound of helicopters, or Owlowicious (sp?) turning around to the sound of Xanatos' steel clan exoskeleton turning around. Great stuff! You should see if you can get it posted on Equestria Daily.

I have a couble of comments and questions about Demona's clan. Although the City of Stone episodes made it look like her clan was only made up of the gargoyles we see, there were a few other cells at that time, right? And by 1057, Greg has said that the clan was only about two dozen with most of them being adult males. So do we have any idea on how big Demona's clan was is 1040 when they made an alliance with Macbeth? Like how many cells there were and how much did the clan grow between 1040 and 1057?

Also, has Greg ever said how far can a gargoyle glide on a particular night? Could Demona visit all of her cells in a single night or were they spread out enough were it would take her a night just to get from one cell to another.

Thank a million.

Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

Masterdramon> There are also those character designs that Cheeks put up on DeviantArt last year that looked suspiciously like possible 2198 designs...and then were subsequently removed. Ah, the speculation.

There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!

Adam: "Gargoyles 2198" is no closer to being made then any other "Gargoyles" television series at the moment - which is to say, not likely. But Greg B. is quite right to point out that, given the history of the industry, the most likely subject of a television revival of the property - from an executive and marketing perspective - would either be a full-on reboot of the original series, or, preferably, "Gargoyles 2198" as its own stand-alone series.

There are quite a few reasons why "2198" would be by far the best of the prospective spin-offs to stand by itself as a television series, among them that its introduces an entirely new cast so that new viewers don't feel like they are missing something (but with enough callbacks to the original show, including Demona/Owen/TimeDancing Brooklyn/Coyote X/the Quarrymen/the various visual similarities between new cast members and old ones/etc. that older fans don't feel shafted either), a broader and more epic scope (they're fighting for the whole damn planet, yo!), an updated futuristic/sci-fi setting to try and rake in viewers of a wider expanse of demographics, and quite a few others.

In short, none of the other spin-off concepts play very well as anything besides spin-offs, and tend to star relatively minor characters from the original series that, in terms of marketing, might not sell so well with new viewers. But "Gargoyles 2198" is simply the time-skipped future of the original and thus does not suffer this issue, and the vocal response in support of "The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra" (which is pretty much the exact same sort of idea) should explain why executives might respond better to it than "Pendragon" or "Heroes of Ulster" as something to greenlight as a revival of the franchise.

Greg B- I haven't heard anything about Gargoyles 2198 becoming a TV series. Do you know how close it is to happening?

4 Gargoyles
2 Pendragon
2 TimeDancer
1 2198
1 Heroes of Ulster
1 Dark Ages
1 New Olympians

Long time lurker, maybe second time poster(might be third time). Anyways the reason I'm posting is because I recently got into a show I'm sure you are all aware of by now(you pretty much can't miss it if you're on the internet for any amount of time) and with all the fan art/videos/whatever I've noticed a centain lack of Gargoyles and eventually the urge to right this wrong became undeniable anymore, so here it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhZSkJLmoew

This is my first attempt at making a video in Sony Vegas, using what little I can remember from a class I took on Adobe Final Cut(I think it was Final cut at least...), so suggestions on how to make it better would be greatly appreciated. I am also looking for suggestions on dialog for the final scene, and whoever's dialog I go with will get there name added to the description(or not if you don't want anyone else to know of your secret shame).

Anon > It's not a crime. But I'm just telling you why I think you aren't getting a response. Anyway a brief summary is all I can provide since I don't have access to the archives either (same boat as you), though I did read Chapter 2. However it's been awhile.

Chapter 2 tells of how the clan was reawakened in modern day Paris. A priest (forgot his name) plays the role of a Xanatos-esque character. A nun plays the role of an Owen-esque character. They reawaken the clan by getting the world's best escort girls to have sex with the clan while they are still in "stone sleep". They aren't actually stone, the statues are made of solid semen. They have sex with the statues to the point of orgasm which awakens the clan. Then Behemoth starts to recall how it all began and drifts off, and then we cut to feudal Japan in chapter 3. A female Tengu, a small Tengu resembling Lexington except with 4 arms, and some sort of beast Tengu were not awakened. I get the impression that the Xanatos-esque priest is a genuine good guy but I'm not positive and I can't go back to check the chapter again.

Rebel

Rebel: Either way, I have no money to spare for the comic. I tried to keep up with the free pages but, as often happens, I drifted out of the Gargoyles fandom for a while, what with next to nothing going on with it (after all, you can only stay with a dead franchise for so long and I care nothing what-so-ever for Greg W's work in the field of super heroes). When I drifted, I missed chapter two.

I came here hoping someone might throw me a bone and tell me what happened with chapter two. I don't need a detailed panel by panel description; just hoped someone might give me an over all summary. I'm not trying to take money away from them; that's not my intention. It's very kind of them to allow the free preview pages from those who can't pay. But you kinda make it sound like I'm stealing money from them.

I didn't realize it was a huge crime to ask for a summary. It's no different than asking a friend for a brief summary of a book you're thinking of borrowing from the library that you know they've read before.

Anon

Greg B.: Do you really think that Greg W. is gonna tackle the "New Olympians" spin-off before the main "Gargoyles" series gets to that period, though? Terry Chung's age in "Masque" and "Louse" seems to indicate that that point is still a fair way's off...

Six Gargoyles trades
One Bad Guys
One Dark Ages
One Pendragon
One TimeDancer
One New Olympians
One Heroes of Ulster.

I think "Gargoyles 2198" is the one we have the best chance of getting on TV, that's why it's not on my list.

I have a hypothetical question for the group. If Greg were able to write more comics but only got 12 trade paperbacks, how would you want them split between Gargoyles and the various spin-offs?
Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

Anon > I don't think you will get any information in this comment room about LTiP Chapter 2 from anyone who is subscribed to the comic. No one has said so yet, but I'm pretty sure people would rather you pay for the comic and read the issues yourself. On some level, giving you a detailed breakdown of what happens in Chapter 2 so that you don't have to subscribe would feel like taking money out of the pockets of the people who run LTiP.

Todd: Indeed, that was both amusing and informative. Norse has always been probably my weakest of the major classical mythologies (I simply never found it quite as engaging as, say, the Greek or Egyptian myths as a child), so I'm trying to play catch-up on that note at the mo'.

For Castaway, we've seen him flip the switch from "I don't know if this is right guys..." to "NO MERCY". So at this point in the game where we haven't seen what has happened between the years of his father's death to the events of Hunter's Moon to really sympathize with him in any way. He's cold, calculated, but could probably be redeemed if he wanted to, but without further stories we're left hating him for now.

As for Demona, she's definitely been one heck of a roller coaster ride. We've seen her help the vikings sack the castle (-1), but sheds a tear on 1000 year statue Goliath before leaving (+1). We see her kill humans for food (-1), but then make an alliance with MacBeth (+1). We've seen her ally with Thailog and create a lot of grief for the Gargoyles (-1), but then at the last minute betrays Thailog and tells Goliath to save their daughter (+1). Albeit, she has done a lot more bad then good, but you can still see a glimmer of hope for her and I think people hold onto that hope and can use it to forgive her for all her crimes.

Anthony Tini

Thought I would share this.

http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2011/05/brooklyn_is_now.php

Lurker

I suspect that part of it may also be that Demona's a member of an oppressed minority species, while Castaway's not. People are more ready to excuse the atrocities of the person at the bottom fighting back than the person at the top delivering the blows. (I wouldn't be surprised if, in "X-Men" fandom, people are similarly more ready to excuse Magneto's actions than to excuse those of anti-mutant bigots like the Friends of Humanity or the people building the Sentinels.)

I figured out the anagram name (the remark "Think PIT in TGS" helped - though the other big breakthrough came when I realized I should rearrange the letters of the whole name rather than the first name and surname separately). All that I'll say is that the first name begins with an A.

Castaway gets no pass because he adopted that Snidely Whiplash mustache that screams "I'm a villain." Why does Demona get a pass from a lot of fans? I can think of two reasons... :P

The reason Demona's villainous actions get much more of a free pass than Castaway's? Four words:

Greg Bishansky:<So, why doesn't Castaway get a free pass from these people? I know what I think the answer is, but I want to hear from you.>

Kind of obvious to as well. But some people are just filled with self species loathing now a days.

Masterdramon:<All of the pro-Gargoyle humans we've seen so far in canon (Elisa, Matt, Robbins, Hiroshi, post-World Tour Macbeth, etc.) have been, without exception, perfectly calm, rational, and accepting individuals, and I've believed for a while that given enough time, Greg W. would've subverted that with pro-gargoyle extremists of some stripe. It makes the drama that beings like Elisa and Goliath have to face ring truer, as they then have to work the issue from two angles and attempt to forge middle ground, which always entails more suffering overall.>

Technically speaking you could say that the Captain of the Guards from 994 was a pro-Gargoyle radical. But he's dead now and as of Shadows of the Past he's found peace in the afterlife. Although I would have liked to have seen his spirit confront Demona.

Vinnie - [tpeano29@hotmail.com]

So, on another forum I encountered a Demona Apologist. He justified things and then added that he feels sorry for her. I asked if he felt sorry for John Castaway, and he said no.

Now, why does Demona so often get a free pass while Castaway doesn't? Demona has committed many crimes and atrocities. As of "Estranged," Castaway's worst crimes are attempted murder. Demona is already a mass-murderer.

So, why doesn't Castaway get a free pass from these people? I know what I think the answer is, but I want to hear from you.

MASTERDRAMON> While I enjoy TGC shots as much as the next guy, I don't need any more Egon Pax. Even as far as a parody goes... I watched and reviewed "To Serve Mankind" a couple years ago, and *shudders* that was bad.

I always thought PIT as presented in TGC was kinda... hokey. They seemed like the type of people who would be smoking pot at Washington Square Park while singing kumbayah with acoustic guitars. I never understood why they turned up in TGS and so many fanfics, when most just wanted to get away from TGC. So, I'm amused by the parody. Probably too amused by the parody.

Is the screenshot used for her from TGC? I haven't watched "Dying of the Light" since... 1996, and I don't want to subject myself to the episode to check it.

But beyond the obvious mythology gag/"Take That!"-style jab at TGC (makes me wonder if eventually Eg_n P_x is going to come on Formspring spouting platitudes and causing all the players to complain about how annoying he is), I genuinely do like the idea it poses.

All of the pro-Gargoyle humans we've seen so far in canon (Elisa, Matt, Robbins, Hiroshi, post-World Tour Macbeth, etc.) have been, without exception, perfectly calm, rational, and accepting individuals, and I've believed for a while that given enough time, Greg W. would've subverted that with pro-gargoyle extremists of some stripe. It makes the drama that beings like Elisa and Goliath have to face ring truer, as they then have to work the issue from two angles and attempt to forge middle ground, which always entails more suffering overall.

So I'm definitely interested in this "Lacunae Rahdon" (I'm certain that that's a reference to something, but I'm blanking on what), and look forward to seeing the effect she has on Formspring over the next few days. And incidentally, here's her "Greg Weisman" response (probably the only one I won't be including when I pose them all to the big guy himself, but I thought y'all here in the CR might enjoy it)...

Lacunae Rahdon: He delivered us stories about the Night Angels who have come to deliver us!

And as long as I'm here, might as well include the response from the Chameleon, from the period where he was posing as Norman Osborn...

Chameleon: I've already answered this question, so stop wasting my time. I've got a company to run.

After watching Greg B's Stone and Webs tribute once again on YouTube today, a thought occurred to me - could we petition Greg W to change all of his canned responses on Ask Greg to simply "I have no response to that"? Heh-heh-heh.

August's comic solicitation of Young Justice #7: http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/news.php/news.php?action=fullnews&id=1035 Series writers Weisman and Hopps are back on board writing the comic. #7 artist Christopher Jones also drew Bad Guys #3 and I thought he did a great job.

ADAM> Michael Reaves was a writer and story-editor. But he was not a producer on the series. IMDB is wrong. As they so often are.

Hey,

So I fell behind in reading the Last Tengu of Paris. I was able to read all of chapter one but forgot about chapter two. I've been following chapter three but I have no idea what happened in chapter two. We went from modern day Paris to ancient Japan. Can someone tell me what happened in chapter two?

Thanks!

I have a question about Michael Reaves. On his Gargoylewiki page, very little is talked about his role in Gargoyles, yet on IMDB he is credited with either writing or producing almost the entire series. So what exatly was his role in Gargoyles?

Also, I was not aware that he is the same Michael Reaves who has more than a dozen Star Wars writings to his credit.

Um... and does anyone know what happened to http://avalon.gargoyles-fans.org/ ?
It has been down for months now.

I've heard about a "Gargoyles" called movie too, but sadly it has nothing to do with the original series.
I will not watch it because it will traumatize me.

A shame he never finished the Hunter's Moon trilogy :(
