Did Wally ever tell Artemis the spitfire thing?
chris

I never had as many movies reviews as Mr. Ebert, hell I only have about 300. But I would often read Mr. Ebert's reviews to get an idea of his point of view on said film. He helped me many times when I got writer's block.

I appreciated his points of view. Like Siskel, we didn't always agree on each movie, but I respected him greatly.

I've wanted to be a movie critic for a long, long time, and Mr. Ebert made it easier for me to write what I felt about films.

He was indeed the most well-known, most beloved film critic in the world. No one will ever come close to having his reputation or connection with the comman man. I for one will miss him greatly.

RIP Mr. Ebert.

The Nostalgia Critic posted a pretty heartfelt tribute to the man about an hour or so ago:

And I wrote my own:

To say that I admired Roger Ebert would be an understatement. I'm not going to say there will never be another one like him, but people like him come along once in a lifetime.

Somewhere out there, a film student is finding out what Rosebud means for the first time. A man is pausing as Fredo prays the Hail Mary on a boat over Lake Tahoe. A woman grasps her heart as Bogie's love flies off into the foggy night. All it takes is one moment to change a person. The balcony is closed... Roger Ebert died this afternoon. I was a big fan of his, and he will be missed.

I see Greg has finished his proofing run on the upcoming Rain of the Ghosts release. Given his last note in the Ramble, I can really only say one thing...

Thanks, I hadn't read it closely enough to realize that the "Spider-Man" part wasn't a question.

Todd: Well, the "Spider-Man" bit isn't actually a question, just an observation; it doesn't even invite Greg to chime in on the subject.

I'm typically pretty strict about enforcing Guideline #10 (even having deleted several questions which were very kind and very well-written, and which I greatly hope will eventually be re-submitted in separate posts), but even I think penalizing a relatively innocuous comment like that goes a little far.

MASTERDRAMON - Shouldn't that question you linked to in your last post have been dropped? It contains multiple subjects ("Young Justice" and "The Spectacular Spider-Man"), which is against the rules.

Anonymous: Congratulations. You're only about the tenth person to ask that here at Ask Greg.

We'll know the answer when Greg W. gets to this question. In the meantime, have a little patience.

I was present in 1998 but I sure don't remember anything with enough clarity to give any sort of spoilers. :P

One of the revisions mentions a "Tall Woman". Similar entities appear in the bible for Roswell Conspiracies, perhaps lending to the two works having similar sources of inspiration.

It was the 1998 Gathering where the play was performed. There was no Radio Play at the 1997 Gathering. Are there still people around who were present? Sure. But I also tend to think the people who were at that con who are still around respect Greg enough to keep spoilers under wraps until Greg is ready to tease more himself.

Hey - longtime lurker, first-time commenter.

Rebel - If you want a TEENSY bit more info about RotG, check out this old reply:
http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=8543

Evidently, the Bermuda Triangle figures prominently. Sounds like a great premise perfectly suited to Greg's love of the supernatural and conspiracy fiction.

I'm surprised there isn't a little more info floating around, considering that his original "pilot" development for RotG was performed at the '97 Gathering (or '98 - there seems to be conflicting information). Isn't ANYONE still around in the fandom who might remember a few hazy details from that con?

A little more background on the development of the project:

Greg's resume, which includes a reference to the original development as an animated series at DreamWorks circa '96-98:
http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=7908

And, apparently Nickelodeon briefly picked up the project before dropping it:
http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=18066

I'm very curious, and intrigued to see Greg developing his own property and characters for the first time in twenty years. I don't want spoilers, but I am looking forward to a few juicy tidbits to whet my appetite!

Richard Jackson: Thanks! It was fun to write up, and of course even more fun to experience personally.

Rebel: I think he probably sees keeping completely mum as preferable to saying something which might cause a contractual dispute. Yeah, a basic plot summary probably wouldn't qualify, but Greg's always been over-cautious in this area (which is certainly better than being under-cautious).

I'm confident we'll hear more well in advance of December, in any event. The release date's still over eight months away.

Now, I was pleasantly surprised to see this, as I actually met Thomas Zahler at WonderCon and had quite a good conversation with him. He was the writer and artist on the "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Micro Series #1" comic, which (like all the MLP tie-in comics) I heartily recommend to any fan of the show; that's what brought me to his booth.

Anyway, based on our interactions and on the rear cover recommendations by both Mark Waid and Gail Simone, I picked up Volume 1 of Love and Capes ("Do You Want to Know a Secret?") and got it signed by Thomas. He even threw in a little sketch of Twilight Sparkle's head at my request, which I thought was really cool.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/94547312@N04/8607948068/in/set-72157633137324644

I'm a little over two-thirds through Volume 1 right now, and am absolutely in love with the hilarious adventures/misadventures of Mark and Abby. It reads a lot like a really good webcomic, and manages to simultaneously be a strong parody of and love letter to Silver Age-era superheroes.

Funny, charming, and vibrantly colorful, I definitely recommend Love and Capes to anyone looking for (as the cover describes it) a "Superhero Situational Comedy" with a lot of heart. I was already going to collect the rest of the volumes after finishing this one, but knowing that Greg Weisman's a fan - and wrote the Volume 4 introduction - has moved them to the top of my priority list.

Overall, Thomas was probably my third-favorite professional meet-up at the Con; the first of course being Greg Weisman himself, and the second being Brianne Drouhard, the woman behind the "Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld" shorts for DC Nation, who is just all kinds of awesome.

I respect Greg a lot as a creator but I'm really mystified as to why he's pimping this book but he won't even say what it's about...I don't see how him telling us the basic premise of the book would interfere with his publisher's advertising and I especially feel that if he's going to encourage us to pre-order it, it would be nice to know something about it besides just author and title.
Rebel

Masterdramon> Speaking of your report, it was quite excellent. I enjoyed reading it.
Richard Jackson

Anonymous: I posted the only thing he mentioned about "Rain of the Ghosts" already in my Con report last week.

He said he's deliberately keeping mum on "Rain of the Ghosts" until he knows if his publisher is doing any advertising. If they don't, he may start teasing some plot tidbits on Ask Greg.

ANTHONY - I didn't pay close enough attention to be certain, but a lot of those questions might have been in the "ASKED AND ANSWERED" or "SPOILER REQUEST" categories, as well.

@Todd Jensen - I guess if people want real answers to their questions, they can post them and hope that Greg gets to them before 4/1/2014.

I wonder if Greg enjoyed writing the funny answers as much as I enjoyed reading them.

When the Manhattan Clan (Including Coldstone and Coldfire) fight the Pack, I want to read
about the fight with Angela and Coldfire against Hyena, or Angela and Katana vs Hyena (1 of the two). Also if the mutates (not including Fang) show up, I want to read about Claw fighting Wolf (who may or may not be evovling due to the mutation)
.

Clearly, the true reason Impulse came back to the past was to subtly influence events so that Mal and Karen didn't split up.

Thus invigorated by regular sex with his brilliant cheerleader scientist, Mal Duncan would lead the fight to reopen the Happy Harbor Bowlerama, and therefore save the planet.

Suck on that, Vandy!

Good Lord, today's answers are hilarious. My particular favorites were Earth surrendering to the Reach because the Bowling Alley closed down and Snapper Carr facing off against Starro with a beer refrigerator. Perhaps Greg should have pitched that idea for the DC Nation short.

**wipes a tear** oh wow, were today's responses hilarious -- I particularly got a kick that Snapper Carr can hold his own against Starro and I loved the reference to Nokkar in response to a SpecSpidey question of all things, hahaha.

But I guess I shouldn't be too surprised -- I mean, dude, note the timestamp. ;)

Oh...right, duh. Didn't think about that, sorry. I have been keeping track of this for a while before today, I swear. You can check out their tumblr or facebook if you will, but I totally understand waiting until tomorrow. xD

It might be a good idea to hold off the serious discussions/announcements until tomorrow, just to be on the safe side. I wouldn't want to see a great idea or important piece of news disbelieved because of the date on which it came out.

Oh, speaking of kickstarter, a new website recently began with that same idea for TV shows. http://www.smgo.tv/

It actually intended to have more time going through a beta phase, but tumblr, through a tweet from the director of Green Lantern, heard about it and broke their servers with requests for GLTAS (and presumably Young Justice)

So they took a week or so off and put the site up. Note that this JUST started, so there isn't a track record to go on so far, but I'm being very cautiously optimistic. The fact that Giancarlo Volpe tweeted about it means something.

The idea is that once enough requests, and then votes, come on board, they get a contract with a station and they open it to crowd funding for...well I don't know exactly how much, but payment is done through paypal, and if the goal is reached, then, by contract, they have to bring the show back.

More info is also talked about here - https://www.facebook.com/notes/smgotv/the-plan-in-detail/583783794966831

So...yeah, I'm going to go suggest Gargoyles to come back now. Discuss? I'm kind of wondering how they could get a contract together to get back everyone who worked on a show since at least several people would have gone on to other things in terms of jobs, and the older the more difficult to get back.

Ro9ge

I think a comic book license is the best bet. Who knows, maybe a kickstarted (assuming Disney ad Marvel agree) to get a six issue miniseries out.

I missed the Kickstarter conversation from a couple weeks ago so sorry if this is redundant. A movie or TV series would have very high production costs. A comic would be cheaper but would be competing with Disney-owned Marvel (see: BOOM!). What about a novel? You don't approach Disney as a production partner but as a licensor. Figure out the license cost, a good rate for a book advance and the production cost for eBooks and/or print-on-demand. Sum it up and that's your Kickstarter goal. One hitch may be if Disney demands production go through their publishing arm.
Landon - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter feed]

Quote from the Veronica Mars Kickstarter attempt:

"Of course, Warner Bros. still owns Veronica Mars and we would need their blessing and cooperation to pull this off. Kristen and I met with the Warner Bros. brass, and they agreed to allow us to take this shot. They were extremely cool about it, as a matter of fact. Their reaction was, if you can show there's enough fan interest to warrant a movie, we're on board. So this is it. This is our shot."

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/559914737/the-veronica-mars-movie-project

Disney would need to be on board from the start. Based on how they treated SLG and BOOM!, I doubt they'd have the same reaction as WB above, but who knows.

Here's another example that kickstarter may be a good idea for Gargoyles:

Cakith: Greg said at the event that he's now begun to think that the "Veronica Mars" thing may be more of an isolated incident than an applicable example to "Gargoyles," "Young Justice," etc.

Which isn't to say he's given up on that, and by all means if someone comes up with a proposal it's something that should be discussed, but his hopes aren't quite as high now as they were a few weeks ago.

I'm trying and failing to come up with a clever way to combine "SIXTH!" and an April Fool's joke.

It's not really working.

So...yeah.

Rebel: Well...he's definitely dead. Though that seems pretty obvious.

And he did mention that there was at least some talk of killing Barry off instead. But they decided against that early on because (A) it'd be telegraphed far too much for comic fans who'd naturally be expecting it, and (B) Wally's death would resonate far more emotionally that Barry's. Both of which I quite strongly agree with.

Does that answer your question, or is there anything in particular you're looking for?
