1. Would you be willing to get into the inspiration behind "Doc Shakespeare"?
1b. If so, what was it?

2. Was the pursuit of a live action pilot at the time driven by a purely creative desire, or more about taking advantage of specific commercial/economic advantages present at the time? Or a combination?

Greg responds...

1. Research, research, research. The more research I did on Shakespeare and his family, the more fascinated I became with his eldest daughter.

2. Both.

Are the gargoyles aware that the two owners of Nightstone Unlimited are Demona and Thailog? The Alexander Thailog name could be a giveaway, and did Macbeth tell them Demona's human name after the action died down in "Sanctuary?"

Greg responds...

I don't think that Macbeth knew about Nightstone, and thus it never occurred to him that - once outed - Demona would continue to use her alias.

This is something I've wondered for a while. We know the Hunters came to Manhattan to investigate all the gargoyle sightings. But what exactly led Robyn Canmore to Dominique Destine? Why did it occur to her that this French immigrant CEO was worth investigating? I understand that she's never been seen at night, but how did that get her on Robyn's radar?

I get why Jon decided to impersonate a reporter for his investigation, and the Hunter's Moon deleted scene explained why Jason decided to go "undercover" in the 23rd precinct. But when I zoom back and pretend I don't know who Dominique Destine really is, I wonder what led Robyn there.

Greg responds...

The timing and location of the incorporation of Nightstone Unlimited. (Not to mention the name.)

You've said in the past that gargoyles follow a vague religion that is both monotheistic and pantheistic, and that at present Coldfire would be the most interested in it. What are Demona's spiritual viewpoints? Was she ever a "believer." Is she still one, or is she lapsed? The closest we've ever gotten was her not considering a Wind Ceremony for her smashed clan a priority in "Tyrants."

For that matter, what are Angela's spiritual beliefs? She was raised by humans after all.

Greg responds...

I think Demona is probably lapsed - or at least inattentive.

I don't think Angela knows too much about the Gargoyle Way. I do think she was raised with medieval Christian values, without necessarily being baptized a Christian.

1) Are Zatara and Zatanna celebrities, since the former doesn't seem to have a secret identity or disguise who he is in any way? Are they well known to the people of New York?
2) Why is it that Michael McCuiston, Kristopher Carter and Lolita Ritmanis always compose each episode's music together? When they worked on Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Teen Titans etc, each one of them tackled a different episode, an approach that I felt worked extremely well. Would you ever consider letting them compose individual episodes on their own, 'splitting duties' as it were?
3) Is Zatanna attracted to Robin?
4) Not to be pedantic or anything, but shouldn't "Homefront" and "Coldhearted" be "Home Front" and "Cold Hearted"? Homefront and Coldhearted aren't actual words to my knowledge.
5) Do the other members of the Light find Klarion annoying?
6) Was Paula Crock ever married?
7) How did Harm's parents die? Did he kill them?
8) Since Garth and Tula were referred to as Tempest and Aquagirl on the Comic-Con playing cards, can that be taken as an indication that they will assume those aliases in the near future on the show?
9) Which was your favourite season 1 episode to write?
10) Why hasn't Artemis's crush on Superboy been touched on in episodes other than "Infiltrator" and "Secrets"?

Greg responds...

1. Zatara is. Zatanna has been out of the spotlight largely

2. We're not enforcing anything. But as long as I've worked with them, i.e. since SpecSpidey, this is how THEY have chosen to work.

3. What do you think?

4. They are, actually.

5. Not generally. I certainly don't.

6. Yes. See issue #7 of the YJ companion comic book.

7. Probably.

8. Eventually.

9. My mind doesn't work that way. They're all like my kids. Even the ones I didn't write. But I'll admit, I was pretty proud of the synergistic elements within "Misplaced".

10. It has. It's just subtle, I suppose. It's also been in the comics. Ultimately, there's only so much screen time, though, I guess to focus on it.

I just checked the unanswered questions and I want to apologize for asking a question that was already asked. When Ask Greg reopened I thought I would be one of the first ones to post and it was only after I posted did I realize someone else had already asked the question about the Blockbuster formula. So again I am sorry and I hope that this doesn't ruin the experience of Ask Greg.

Greg responds...

It doesn't. But thanks for the apology.

1) Where were Wotan and Count Vertigo incarcerated at once they were captured?
2) Since Belle Reve is a federal prison in the U.S., why are Mammoth and Shimmer there when they're Australian? Or are they Australian on Earth-16?

Greg responds...

1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.

2. See Issue #17 of the comic.

1. In issue #7 of the comic series of Young Justice, was Sportsmaster returning from Santa Prissca?
2. What High School does Zatanna go to?
3. What languages do Cheshire and Sportsmaster speak?
Thanks so much for your time!

Greg responds...

1. Who says Sportsmaster was in issue #7?

2. I'm not sure, but it's a Catholic school in Manhattan. (Maybe all girls.)

3. English, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese and probably many others.

What made you decide to do the story about 10 years after superman appeared, but give it a modern time twist?

Greg responds...

Well, it was almost the inevitable result of developing the property from scratch.

We weren't going to do a period piece. Not that that might not be interesting, but I doubt it would have sold. Everyone wanted it to feel up-to-the-minute and contemporary.

And we were doing a show about the young teen heroes, which meant the adults had to be already established.

And we even wanted a handful (Robin, Speedy, Aqualad, Kid Flash) of the teens to already be a little established.

Beyond that, I just did the math.
