Hi, I was wondering if Beast Boy was 13 at the start of Team Year Six or if he was in the same boat as Bart with the whole assuming he lives to the end of Year Six, that he will have turned 13 during it?

Greg responds...

I think it's safe to say now, given what we revealed at SDCC this past summer, that Garfield survived to age 14 by the end of Team Year Six.

Hello! I am a huge fan of your work. I was wondering, what would have happened if someone were to travel back in time, and keep Macbeth from saving Duncan from falling off the cliff in City of Stone Part Three?

Greg responds...

In the Gargoyle's Universe that isn't possible. It happened, so it happened. We had very strict rules of time travel.

In Young Justice, why can Wotan, Dr. Fate, and Klarion shoot out energy blasts, fly and create shields without speaking backwards. While, Zatanna and Zatara have to speak backwards. Why can Fate, Wotan, and Klarion do this but Zatanna and Zatara can't?

Greg responds...

Fate is a Lord of Order. Klarion is a Lord of Chaos. Wotan is an immortal sorcerer, who's been using magic for centuries. Zatara and Zatanna aren't at their level. The fact that they can hold their own at all against Wotan and Klarion is impressive.

I asked a question back in February that was removed from the site. I mentioned this in the comments section of your Facebook page. So here it is again: In light of the fact that you say there are LGBTQ+ characters on Young Justice I would like to know if there are any Christian and/or homeschooled characters on the show? As I said on your Facebook page you don't have to give me a favorable response I just want a response at all.

Greg responds...

I'm not sure what "In light of the fact" is supposed to mean, but, yes, the Wests, Allens, Garricks, Zataras, Ervins, etc. are all one denomination of Christian or another, as are many - if not most - of the cast and supporting cast, in light of the fact that Christianity (in all its forms) is still the majority religion in the United States.

Actually, I seem to recall I've broken down the religious denominations of all the leads. Check the Ask Greg Young Justice archives.

Beast Boy was homeschooled.

And, just so you know, I haven't been on either of my Facebook pages in over a year. Even before I began my social media hiatus this year, I had to give up on Facebook, because it kept crashing my phone.

Does Blue Beetle have super strength? Because Black Beetle went toe to toe with Mongul who is stronger than both Superboy and Wonder Girl so I'm just wondering if Blue Beetle's scarab also gave him this super strength or not.

Also did the Justice League find out about Belle Reve being infiltrated by the light?
And how did Icicle Jr, Mammoth, Shimmer, Devastation and the Terror Twins break out?

Greg responds...

1. Not as much as Black Beetle or Mongul, but his strength is above a normal human of his size and build.

2. Yes. In the show. On screen. Didn't you see it?

3. They didn't "break" out. Otherwise, NO SPOILERS.

Did you choose the 6 six Leaguers who went to Rimbor as like a homage to the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited cartoons since they were the core Justice League members on those shows? (I assume you didn't send Flash so you can do the whole Impulse arc)

Also would Wonder Woman and Hawkwoman have been at Rocket's bridal shower had they not been at Rimbor? Or are they not that close to Rocket? (I am wondering because it could be the latter and Canary could have been there because she used to train the team and all so naturally they'd have a closer relationship to her)

Finally, how do the Hawks maintain a secret identity if any at all with these huge wings?

Greg responds...

1. Yes, largely.

2. I'm sure they were invited. It's still a relatively small sorority.

2a. They're not AS close. But they're close enough.

3. You're assuming they have secret identities, to which I say NO SPOILERS.

I don't mean to ask this antagonistically, but what exactly do you have against super breath? Isn't it in the realm of possibilities with everything that the yellow sun does to Superman, it would enhance his lung capacity?

I mean, in the beginning, he never even flew, and now that's one of his essential powers. And that's one of his powers in Young Justice.

If you just disagreed with something like the super kiss, I'd understand, but I'm not sure why you don't think super breath is a plausible power?

Greg responds...

Volume.

Volume.

Volume.

I don't care how strong his lungs are, they're still - at most - only slightly larger than a normal human of that size. So he couldn't blow very much could he. Try to expel air from your lungs. All of it. Then assume your lungs are a super-muscle that is really good at this. And you still don't have that much air to work with. Cuz you don't have the volume.

Oh, and the whole SUPER-COLD thing is ridiculous. Breath isn't cold. When you blow on hot soup, you're not cooling the soup with your breath. You are blowing hot particles away. And, sure, you could argue, "BUT HE'S KRYPTONIAN!" And maybe Kryptonians have cold breath. But for a guy powered by the sun, I don't buy it.

I think the over-powering of heroes over time is dangerous to the needs of a storyteller. And some things are just damn silly. Super-Cold-Breath is one of those things.

Hey Greg, theres something I would like to ask your opinion about.

You see comics have been notorious for being hard on average people to get into. You should know that your cartoons have been much more influential than whatever it's publised on printed form.

For millions of people when they think Young Justice they think of earth 16 and when they think of spiderman they think of spectacular.

Say Teen Titans Tv show' has Starfire as a cute alien and naive girl wich is among the best female characters ever in my opinion. While on comics she is a dumb bimbo with hardly more personalitybthan a brick

Comics on the other hand are harder to get into and well you might jot agree but the quality is much better in cartoons such as yours. I would rather watch young justice that get into the continuity mess that comics are.

It would seem that every continiuity reboot that tries to make things simpler just makes things worse.

In your experience what would you do to make comics as approachable as tv shows are?

Greg responds...

Well, I'm going to start - without going point by point - by NOT agreeing with everything you've stated above. Some comics have issues. Some are both accessible and very well-done. In general, I'm really liking DC's REBIRTH, for example. I'm reading all of it - trying to keep up. I don't love every series, let alone every issue, but generally, I think they're doing a pretty darn good job. I'd particularly recommend Wonder Woman.

And I think there are plenty of crap television series, as well.

It's all about execution. Plenty of good comics series. Plenty of good television series. Plenty of lousy examples of both. But I'm glad you like YJ and Spectacular.

I have questions regarding adapting DC comics.

You see there is certain fan adaptation running around on the net( I won't mention it for obvious reasons) , and to be honest all the changes seem silly, cringe inducing and fanfic like.

Yet all your changes seem logical. I mean replacing Aqualad with Kalduram or Cassie as Wondergirl would be controversial but it's logical and I like it. You even improved on many characters like from the source material like Artemis and Sportsmaster.

Most of the changes you have done are like apple products they just work.

So my question is How do you make earth 17 feel so cohesive and faithful despite doing some heavy changes to the source material?

Greg responds...

Well, for starters, it's Earth-16.

But otherwise the goal is to get down to the core of every character that you're adapting and be true to that. Not all the details matter, proven out by the fact that over 75 years of comics history, a lot of the details about any given character keep changing. But who the character is at her or his core does matter.

All this is influenced by what we've already done in a universe that we're trying to keep cohesive and coherent, so we think about how any new character would fit into that schema. Or if they'll fit. Things like scope effect us too. For example, we talked about including Supergirl in both Season One and Season Two, but her story was too big to fit in either season without derailing our main overall plot or skimping on her story. We'll get to her eventually - no promises as to when - but it'll have to be when we could do justice (YOUNG justice) to her story.

Hi Greg! First, I just want to say that I am so excited for Young Justice season 3! I can't wait to see what you have in store for us. :-) I just had a few questions about Bart Allen, if that's okay, since I saw you explain in a response that he does not have the same hyper-active metabolism that Wally does & doesn't have to eat/keep food handy like him:

1.) Does he still have to eat/drink more/more often than a non-speedster would, or would he dehydrate/be affected by hunger more quickly?

2.) Do illnesses, medicines, sedatives, poisons, etc. affect him differently? Like, do they have little to no effect, the effects not last very long, or something else?

3.) Similarly, does he have any accelerated healing? For example, would a broken bone heal much more quickly for him (though posibly incorrectly if not set right) or a cut not last very long?

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Greg responds...

1. He's hungry a lot. Whether that's a speedster-metabolism thing or a teenager-metabolism thing, I'll leave to your discernment.

2. We'll have to address that on a case by case basis.

3. I would think so.

I was wondering about the Light's goals. You had us believe that every member is on the same page in regards to their objective: the betterment of mankind. You've also stated that like "real life villains", the members of the Light don't see themselves as such. And in truth, they don't want to "destroy the world" like most cliched villains. They want to elevate it and have THEIR WORLD rule the cosmos. (Surely they want to be at the top of that leather) So, their goal seems well-intentioned (if you overlook the whole "by every means necessary" thing. However, they're not the most scrupulous and noble of people on the planet. Individually, they are power hungry and petty. Ocean Master, for one, is envious of his brother and judging by the two-parter issue, he wants to grab power to himself.

So I guess my question is: are the members of the Light truly working towards the betterment of mankind or do some of them only play along because the Light itself is a means to an end (to gain more power and/or squash their rivals)?

Greg responds...

I'll leave that to your interpretation. But - just to cite an example you've already cited - one could argue that Ocean-Master only wants power for himself. EXCEPT, it would suit the Light (and their overall goals) to have Orm as King of Atlantis, wouldn't it?

Nope, not a goof. We did it consistently in the companion comics and in the show. The depth/pressure compressed her.

I don't know why you felt it felt out of place.

And it wouldn't have been an animation goof, because script and voice recording come WAY before the animation. It was written that way, recorded that way, storyboarded that way and then animated that way. All on purpose.

Is there some sort of prejudice against animation writers by live-action producers? For example, would the producers of the Flash hire one of the Young Justice writers to write an episode? Or, would their experience working in animation not be taken seriously, or might it even be considered a strike against them?

If this prejudice against animation writers does exist, I have to say I don't understand it. I mean... do you really have to be a genius to write an episode of the Flash, or Blue Bloods, or the Big Bang Theory? I can understand shows like Breaking Bad or Mad Men or Game of Thrones being fussy about who they hire to write, but the simple reality is that most TV is not on that level.

Greg responds...

I don't think there are any consistent rules, and there are plenty of writers who've done animation and went on to work in live action. But, generally, yes, I think there's a prejudice against animation writers. I've certainly felt that way, anyhow, though I admit I'm biased. I tried really hard just to get my foot in the door at Arrow when it was first starting up. Couldn't even get an interview.

Hi Greg,

I'm a big fan of your works and I greatly admire your determination to always keep going. Congrats on Young Justice Season 3, by the way: power from the fans to you!

What I'm writing about is W.I.T.C.H. I have recently binged the two seasons and I've fallen. In. Love with the show! Also read your thing about Irma being gay. Not sure I agree, but hey, today anything is possible. Nerissa and Cassidy being together? Maybe ;-).

I was SO bummed that it never got a 3rd season for the other arcs (I bet it could have gone at least 4 or 5 seasons), but is it possible it could make a comeback- if not this year, than maybe next?

One main reason it was cancelled (other than some silly ratings) was because Winx Club had shown up. Now that it's ended, W.I.T.C.H. could make a comeback and gain more popularity like it did in season 1 (I read a lot of people liked both series, so they'd be happy). Also, the 10th anniversary of the comic was last year and they've started reprints of the Disney comics in the native Italy. That could help gain attention again if they start reprinting in America. Plus, I doubt Disney XD wouldn't say no to a show like that on their action and comedy airspace, especially with your work on Rebels. They could re-air the first two seasons and then unveil Season 3. I bet even the original actors would go for it (work, pay, and fun all at the same time).

So what do you think? Is it possible?

P.S. Good luck with your other projects.

Greg responds...

Ratings aren't silly. They're what pays the bills. And Winx had little to do with it. There could be a hundred Winx variations on the air, but if WITCH had strong ratings it wouldn't have mattered.

Anything is possible, but it doesn't seem likely - unless the fans PROVE that there's a market for it, as they did with Young Justice. Not sure how to do that with WITCH, however. Fans had an outlet to show their support financially on YJ. Not sure what that outlet would be on W.I.T.C.H.

But I'd love to do more, if given the opportunity.

Dear Greg,

You've said recently-ish that your take on time travel is a multiverse-level hypertime-like theory most similar from what I can tell to that of Dragonball Z, where going back in time creates another universe...I have been wondering about this since the end of Invasion, because of the end of Bloodlines. I wrote a history for the original timeline that led from the death of Barry to the events at the beginning of that episode, because I figured it was simply a new timeline in the same universe, Earth-16's. Is Impulse not from Earth-16? If not, why did the timeline change in forty years, after he left?

Greg responds...

Well, I've got no familiarity at all with Dragonball Z, so I can't comment on that.

And to be clear, the rules we used in YJ are not my preferred rules of time travel. For those, see GARGOYLES.

But the YJ rules were based off the best I could manage to codify off of the DC Universe's rules.

Earth-16 had a history that Impulse thwarted. You can view his original history as Earth-16a, I suppose. Or you could just mark it up as GONE.

(I have a feeling I know the answer, but wanted to clarify what Lenny was asking)

I guess you could ask for whomever you wanted, but whether they can cooperate with that suggestion will depend on a load of factors, including but not limited to availability, cost, interest, studio needs, etc.

Hi! I'd like to ask you a question from a writing standpoint if you don't mind. When juggling a lot of plotlines, how important is it to develop relationships on-screen? On the one hand, obviously the main couples should be. But for the minor ones/background characters, I'm not sure if it's better to leave their relationship status static (which would be unrealistic for most) until I can properly develop something for them, or sometimes put them in side relationships based on chemistry even without much prior development. This would be provided that these relationships could be used to further individual storylines, just not important enough to warrant too much attention from the main plot. It's okay if you don't have an answer, but I'm curious if you do.

Greg responds...

Every character should have his or her own life, even if you don't always have the screen time for it.

1. I took a break from social media.

2. I'll get to it eventually, but it may be a LONG eventually. I'm afraid that neither book in the series sold well enough for my publisher to want to publish the third book. I was hoping that the audioplay version of Rain would generate some interest, both in itself, and the series as a whole. But that hasn't happened. When you freelance for a show, you're only writing select episodes, and only focusing on those episodes, where as a staff writer and producer would think about it in a larger sense that would fit the entire season/series (if it had some overall arc).

Has any series you have freelanced got you interested in the series outside of the episode(s) you have written for (or maybe you had been asked to take part in a larger role, but couldn't do it at that moment)? For example, you only got to write one episode of TMNT (2012), but is there anything would've liked to have done more of? As in a character's development, story arc, etc.

There have been a handful of series that I was just freelancing on, where I got hooked and might have liked to do more, and/or did talk out larger arcs with the story editor. THE BATMAN, Season One, and BIG GUY & RUSTY come to mind.

Will you ever consider teaching a writing class? If so, teach it on MasterClass! (https://www.masterclass.com) I would love to be a writer half as good as you! You could make Family Guy good!

Greg responds...

Ignoring the non-sequitor attack on Family Guy...

I have taught classes in Writing for Television Animation in the past. I don't think I have the time now. And the internet largely scares me.
