TODD - A toast to the Immortal Bard... I was lucky to have had a teacher who was very enthused about Shakespeare, when I was in middle school on the post my father was stationed on in England in the early 1980's.

She got a bunch of us kids into learning his history, and preparing to do an annual production of one of his plays for the school. This was a prelude to us going to Stratford-on-Avon to visit his birthplace, other landmarks, his gravesite and capping it all with watching the Royal Shakespeare Company group perform the play we had done ourselves.

Thanks to that teacher and the oppertunity I had, I've had a great appreciation for his plays and modern adaptations of them. Of course, my two favorites are two of his comedies; "Much Ado About Nothing" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

Everyone should have a teacher like that in their lives. ^_^

I do not suffer fools, gladly or otherwise.

Today is William Shakespeare's birthday. To celebrate, I watched "The Mirror" on DVD. (It mentions Shakespeare a couple of times, after all, and introduces the Shakespearean figure of Puck in the series.)

Even if Demona is immortal, the other gargoyles aren't; Castaway would just go after them instead. And I get the feeling that he has a stronger vendetta by now towards Goliath and his clan than towards Demona, in any case.

I doubt that Castaway would be finding out any time soon that Macbeth's the only one who could kill Demona, in any case. I doubt that the Canmores even remember Macbeth any more, particularly in light of the fact that, according to the lost scene in "Hunter's Moon Part Three" (the one where Elisa confronts Jason in the ruins of the clock tower), they'd forgotten why their family became Hunters in the first place.

I think we've established at this point that to the production team of TGC, continuity was like the mule with the spinning wheel, or something like that.

But as long as we're still discussing continuity, I do think it's funny that after being in the same room as first Goliath and then Angela, Margot seemed to maintain her belief that gargoyles were animals (as she'd first stated on Nightwatch), and then like that (snap!), her opinion changed.

Jonny: If we told you that they were being released, would you stop asking? Because I'm tempted to do so, and just beg the CR's pardon later.

KING COBRA> "If he ever did/does, then I'm guessing that his Quarrymen would just disband for the pure reason that he would recognize his overall goal as impossible."

Then you clearly have no understanding of the mind of a fanatic. John Castaway is not a calculator. This is the same guy who was able to rationalise him shooting his own brother to be Goliath's fault and not his own. The world is full of fanatics with impossible goals. Watch CNN or the History Channel some time.

Can you imagine a Quarrymen ralley going like this:

"My friends, my comrades in arms. It has come to my attention that the demon is immortal. As such, we are disbanding. Our mission to protect humanity from these monsters is impossible. We can't win, we may as well not try."

Bull, that wouldn't happen. He'd keep trying to find a way to kill her, and if he couldn't, then he'd try to capture her. Yeah, she may be immortal, but he can still throw her into a steel box, fill it with concrete and throw her out into the middle of the ocean.

It was one "T", P.I.T. = People for Interspecies Tolerance. The writers who came up with that mouthful of a name may have been taking a cue from P.E.T.A. Or they may have chosen it so the acronym would form a word.

Todd > They couldn't find twelve people in a city of 14 million? That's about as believable as everything else in TGC.

All the spellings that I've seen of it had it as "PIT Crew".

And, yes, the PIT Crew gets completely forgotten after the first half of "The Dying of the Light"; they appear to have been there only to give the Quarrymen somebody to attack that would serve as a motivating factor for Hudson to go after them and discover in the process that he was losing the sight in his remaining eye.

In fact, in the very next episode, where Goliath's on trial, we learn that it's not a jury trial because they couldn't find even twelve people in the city who weren't hopelessly biased against gargoyles.

Matt-Give a garg fan a break. TGC only aired in Canada in it's original run in 1997. Some of the eps ran 3 times, the last few, like "Seeing Isn't Believing" & "Angels In the Night" ran Twice. When Family Channel picked them Gargs for Syndication, they only ran the first 2 seasons-very likely because FC has a deal with Disney and Teletoon(our Cartoon Network-and more notibly Y-TV(which also airs alot of cartoons -The later is owned by Corus entertainment, which owns Nelvana Animation-who worked on 11 of the last 13 Garg eps. So it's likely that was the reason we weren't able to see them up here in syndication.
Just the same. one T or 2 T's, I still like the idea of the Gargoyles having human supporters - people who have come to realize that they actually got help from these winged beings in the night - and are willing search for other people who have experienced the same thing. If not reach out to the Gargoyles themselves.

Okay, Bedtime for me. Wingless is still sick :-(

Wingless

PIT is "People for Interspecies Tolerance", right? or am I missing something? Shouldn't it only be one T?

Anyway, yeah, the PIT crew was something good TGC added, but as usual they didn't use the group very well. They came off more as a fan club then an activist group. It would've been interesting to see PIT people argueing with Quarrymen in front of a courthouse or city hall or something.

"An intellectual is someone who has found something more interesting than sex." - Edgar Wallace

Despite Hudson gliding indoors, I still feel "The Dying of the Light was the best non Journey Goliath Chronicles epiisode there was. I particularly like Angela taking the gutsy move she made by meeting with the injured PITT members at the hospital. I don't particularly like the name they chose for the Gargoyles support group, but I like the idea that they introduced one. That's something that doesn't often get mentioned in here. We forever go on about the Quarrymen, but what about those who get helped by the gargoyles. Don't you think that at least a few people along the way would come to realize that these winged beings aren't out there to hurt them-but actually to help? If not a PITT crew? how do you think a support group would come together(other than on the internet-that is ^_~
Wingless

The only consistant thing with the fay is that they always have an ulterior motive when they meddle with human and gargoyle affairs, and most of the time it's a selfish one. The Sisters wanted revenge for being bested and turned into owls (O RLY? YA RLY). Puck wanted the Phoenix Gate so he could bribe his way out of having to return to Avalon. And at the end of "For It May Come True," Titania clearly stated her reasons for the "gift" she gave Goliath.

HARVESTER - Good point about the difference between Canmore and Castaway, and one that I'd thought of as well. Canmore didn't like gargoyles much, but his real goal was getting the throne back from Macbeth. (And I suspect that his English allies' real interest, likewise, was in the political issues rather than the gargoyle issues. If they really had come to Scotland only to hunt gargoyles, they wouldn't have bothered attacking Macbeth's castle after the gargoyles deserted - and they wouldn't have continued helping Canmore against Luach, either - and I assume that they must have, since we know that Canmore *did* defeat Luach, and he would have to have had an army to do that.)

I wonder if Macbeth or Demona felt any satisfaction when, nine years later, Canmore's English allies got their own taste of what it was like to be invaded and conquered by a rival claimant to the throne. Probably not, since it wouldn't reverse their own losses.

Todd Jensen
"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Matt: It's funny. For some reason, glid made more sense to me than glided. But what do I know?

Anyway, another thing about the assassin in "Generations" is that he was also completely lacked the complexity normally seen in a Gargoyles villain. I'm still trying to figure out how destroying the gargoyles could be his lifelong dream, as he said it was, since they were still asleep in Scotland when he was born.

And I think the Canmore of 1057 and his descendant are two completely different people. The former was motivated mostly by politics, and I think his vendetta was more against Macbeth than it was Demona. The latter is projecting onto the entire gargoyle race as a way of masking his own sins, just as Demona does with humans. I think they're too similar for any alliance to work. That, and I doubt Castaway would aid the Demon that killed his father. What I would have liked to have seen in "Generations" would be Demona trying to justify to Angela how she nearly killed her when she tossed the virus into the air. But everyone seemed to have forgotten how close Demona came to wiping out all sentient life on Earth.

"Shout, but you see it still won't do. With my colors on, I can be just as bad as you!" -Ian Anderson.

While we are on the subject, I always thought the Invisable Man was ludicrous. New Olympus having a city wide cloaking device makes some sense (they naturally and earnestly would persue technologies that could hide them, they are more technically advanced than humans and the cloak may have had a large power supply.) The Invisable Man doesn't make sense. A personal cloaking device would seem to need a lot of power and yet hes running around in basically a jumpsuit. Stupid.

Anyway, it's nice that we are talking about TGC as we are. Usually when it comes up we all complain about it and point out problems. I like that we are trying to view these eps constructively. What could've been done better? What was good? Why was this episode good/bad?
Perhaps we are less harsh on TGC these days because in a couple months we'll have the proper canon follow-up to the series in the form of the comic and TGC will be able to be laid to rest in peace...

An equally big question is whether the Quarrymen would accept an alliance with Demona in the first place given their "the only good gargoyle is a dead gargoyle" attitude. (Then again, Canmore and the English accepted Demona's betrayal at the time - to turn on her once they'd sacked Macbeth's castle.)

I've said this before, but the really depressing thing about "Generations" is that it actually supports Demona's attitude about humans. There is no sign of any pro-gargoyle humans (whether Elisa or anyone else) in this episode. All of the humans are anti-gargoyle, and they're not even honest and honorable opponents, but thoroughly deceitful. The Quarrymen set up a fake crime for the gargoyles to thwart in order to lure them into a trap; the Invisible Man double-crosses Demona. It's a far cry from "Temptation" where we had Elisa coming to Goliath's rescue at the end to counter everything that Demona said about humans. Anyone watching just "Generations" and no other episode of "Gargoyles" or "The Goliath Chronicles" could easily be left wondering why Goliath possibly believes in peace with humanity. I'm not certain that even Demona's own treachery is enough to offset this outlook.

I think that *some* Quarrymen would have to be ordinary citizens in order to keep the organization about racial hatred. If it's made up of mercenaries, they'd be going after the gargoyles to collect their paychecks without any interest in whether the gargoyles were monstrous-looking creatures or not.

I've said this before, but I've often thought that it would have been, in some ways, even more interesting if Titania's alternate universe in "For It May Come True" had been one where gargoyles had simply never existed, so that Goliath could see all the more how important it was for his species to keep on trying. (It'd have been all the more tempting since the Big Bad in the series at this point was the Quarrymen, who were endangering the entire city as a side-note to their private feud, and who wouldn't be firing off those heavy artillery if there weren't any gargoyles in New York City. Maybe Titania's vision could show Goliath how, if there weren't any gargoyles, there'd be something else even worse in Manhattan - maybe, without any gargoyles to thwart him, the "enhanced Archmage" with the three great magical objects conquering the world, for example.)

Todd Jensen

HofEyes> "Oh, and the fact that Hudson glid indoors." LOL. Glid? is that a word? Word or not, it made me laugh.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if Goliath had never existed, would Hudson have chosen Demona as a second in command?

I kinda agree with Jurgen on her allying with the Quarrymen. I'm sure she felt she could handle, just as she probably felt when she allied with Canmore. To put it one way, Demona is her own worst enemy, so it makes some sense that she would ally with her next worst enemy...

Matt - [Cape Girardeau, MIssouri, USA]
"An intellectual is someone who has found something more interesting than sex." - Edgar Wallace

Harvester: You're right about the opening changing- the fact that it also went CGI showed it was trying to be "cool." The Mighty Ducks used a CGI opening first, which also made it seem as though Gargoyles was being watered down to be like other shows.

Everyone seems to take it as an article of faith that Demona was horribly OOC in "Generations" by allying with the Quarreymen, but I've started to wonder if it was really as bad as all that. Let's not forget, back in 1057 she abandoned Macbeth and joined forces with a man who had been making war with her ally and who had publicly declared that all gargoyles should be destroyed. And she was still relatively sane at that point. I still can't figure out why the hell she trusted her clan to Canmore, but allying with Quarreymen is certainly no worse than that.

Something I wanted to mention this morning, but I had to leave for work (ah, overtime. The most rewarding part is when they give you the money).

Anyway, perhaps one of the things I disliked most about The Goliath Chronicles was not anything relating to an actual episode, but rather the way they made a complete mockery Carl Johnson's score in the opening. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it did appear that they were trying to make it "hip." As far as episodes that had the most promise, I liked the idea behind "The Dying of the Light." It was good to see Robbins again, but I just wish that they had done a few things better. The ending reminded me of the ending to a GI Joe cartoon, what with everyone laughing. And I don't know whether to thank Greg B or punch him for telling me about Hudson's dream, in particular the fact that Goliath used Hudson's name 1010 years before he'd gotten it. Oh, and the fact that Hudson glid indoors.

I liked the way that TGS incorporated the best moment from that episode into its ficverse.

Todd: I think it's very clear that The Goliath Chronicles didn't give a shit when it came to continuity. Just a few episodes after being arrested for firing military grade ordnance in a city, John Castaway is out of jail and yakking it up with the Assistant DA.

"Brooding in the tower, watching o'er his lands, holding every creature, helplessly they stand. Gaze into his prisms, knowing they are near. Leads them to the dungeons. Spectres numb with fear, they bow defeated." -Rush ("The Necromancer").

Harvester> I thought of it that way Harvester, it is odd that Demona didn't claim the eggs for herself after the Massacre. I can totally picture her raising them to be her personal army of avenging Children of the Night, I guess she just wasn't thinking clearly (I'de be messed up too if I'de inadvertantly helped to bring about the downfall of my own family and friends, and my lover frozen in stone, that woudl put me over the edge for sure). Sigh, hope things start looking up for her someday.

Everyone> I hate most of the TGC episodes, but did enjoy a few of them (but only a little and never completely). I think its a travesty that Demona only appeared in ONE episode during the "third season," she was one of, if not the, most important villains on the show. I enjoyed seeing her interact with Angela though, made feel all warm inside (up til the ending of course). I think that further interaction between those two would have been alot like that, Demona trying her best to be a mother to angela, and Angela being a daughter to Demona, but arguing over their ideas concerning humanity. However, while I wouldn't put it past Demona to try to manipulate Angela in one of her schemes, there is no way in hell that she would ever ally herself with the Quarrymen.
The Quarrymen are the followers of the last remaining active Hunter, her mortal enemy and her strongest case in support of her belief that humans can never accept gargoyles or be trusted. Demona may want to convert Angela over to her way of thinking, but even she has her standards and would never be foolish or desperate enough to ally herself with an assassin working for Castaway. The ending of that episode crushed me, they got Demona wrong, wrong, wrong. I agree that she would regret betraying Angela's trust though, and my heart melted when she said, "Now that I know you, I wouldn't hurt you for the world!" I can tell she meant it too, too bad that episode was done so poorly and is not considered canonical. I noticed they used some stock footage for the scene where Brook tries to claw through the steel wall.

Everyone> I always get a chuckle out of how easily the great and powerful Oberon is manipulated by Queen Titania. Its obvious that she has him wrapped around her little finger, and that she is in effect the true ruler of the Faye, but Oberon's too simple to realize it. Its for the best too, without Titania's guidance, the Third Race wouldn't last long under Oberon's childish rule. I wonder if she really loves him though, or only sees him as a puppet to be used to get what she wants, she did divorce him for a thousand years or so...and only hooked up with him again to use him as a pawn to snatch Alexander away from Fox (and its plain to see she only helped the gargs against him before in the hopes that they would aid her later).
P.S. I'm not too surprised by how the Quarrymen went from being frightened citizens to trained mercenaries in TGC. Castaway probably realized that he needed professionals, not average joes, to take on the gargoyles, though I would have liked to have seen more of the average joe type quarrymen like Vinnie from "The Journey." I would have loved to see a survivor of the City of Stone saga to return as a misguided Quarryman out to avenge his or her family for Demona blasting and or smashing them as statues (would have been more dramatic, especially if he/she tried to take it out on Angela in order to make Demona suffer, seeing as that she can't be killed, wonder when Castaway will learn about that...) Sorry if I ranted too much guys, have a nice day and I hope I provided you with some halfway decent posts to read this time (unlike my usual dead horse crap, lol)

I think it's hight time I made a comment in here...

Christine's story vs. TGC: Very well written story and it held my attention-much better writing than the episode.
However, there are a couple major problems I think with both premisis...

First off, I don't know if I can see Goliath saying aloud that humans will never accept them-this striked me as very out of character for him (something that annoyed me in the TGC ep. too). He's met many good humans, and he's an optimist.
I guess you could call it just a moment of weakness, like Elisa's in High Noon...but if this was the case, why would Titania bother with giving him this alternate universe if this doubt wasn't really in his heart?

which brings me to my second point. In both stories, I can't understand why Titania would bother to give this dream to Goliath. Why would she give it to him as a "gift"? In that reality her daughter is dead and her grandson non-existant. What good will that bring her? And why is she suddenly interested in Goliath's fantasies? She seems to be adament in not directly interfering with humans.

Heh, sorry I hope I don't sound like a jerk critiqueing your stories, Christine. It's certainly better than what made it to air, and I could never hope of writing as good as you. I just think the whole story premise is faulty.

But I definitely don't like that episode-What really annoyed me the most was Goliath was so out of character...like being a total jerk to Elisa("No, THIS is crazy! ME here with YOU!") ughh. And I think Keith David hammed it up a bit too much with all the screaming going after the gargs-("Dont Leave me!!! PLLEEEEAAAASSSSEEEE") I wince every time I watch that. And seriously he was a human just for a day and night, I doubt he would have gone nuts like that. But I actually can accept Elisa hating the gargoyles and the gargs being there for no reason because it's a fantasy that Titania created(how well does she know these characters anyway, to creat such a realistic backstory?)

BTW Matt, Elisa does die in TGC story too, off camera.

My brother LOVES Harry Turtledove, but I never read any.

Maybe in Titania's alternate history, when the Vikings came back to kill the gargs they went down to the rookery and smashed the eggs too. Greg says they only smashed the gargoyles cuz they didn't want to be followed. In the alternate history, the Vikings were coming back for vengeance.

"An intellectual is someone who has found something more interesting than sex." - Edgar Wallace

Well, I don't remember whether they were Quarreymen in that world, just that Elisa was a gargoyle-hater.

Harvester: As for why Demona remained flesh- I can't imagine Demona asking a favor from the Magus after humans destroyed her clan (if anyone objects that they weren't the same humans, then you don't know Demona very well). I'm still curious, though, as to how her alliance with Macbeth would have turned out.

If you like "what if?" stories, have you ever read anything by Harry Turtledove? He's an author of alternate history, which is basically taking real history, changing one key element, and speculating on what would happen. His currently biggest series involves the South winning the Civil War in 1862. It's currently nine books long with at least two more on the way. Go here if you want to learn about it: http://www.sfsite.com/~silverag/turtledove.html
The one I'm talking about is the one beginning with "How Few Remain." I highly recommend it if you're interested in playing the "what if?" game.

Beleive me, it weirded me out, too. Every time I see the episode, I keep wondering why the hell Fox just never did anything but weep helplessly. Either the new writers had not seen the older episodes w/ Fox, or they just didn't care. Either way, they did not do her character justice, which REALLY peeves me, because Fox (aside from the travesty she was in "Ransom") is one of my gaveorite characters.

Count me as another person who notes that, in all the episodes following "Broadway Goes to Hollywood", it was as if Broadway's television interview had never happened. In fact, one of the flaws of the Goliath Chronicles was that, every time the gargoyles had made some gain in their PR efforts, it appeared to have been undone in the next episode with no explanation as to how that had happened (except maybe in the case of Goliath's attack on E--n P-x). The result was that it felt as if the gargoyles weren't getting anywhere. (From that, I can understand why the new production team originally wanted the series to end with the gargoyles just giving up and abandoning Manhattan.)

One other feature of "Broadway Goes to Hollywood": this is the first inclusion of one of the core elements in the Goliath Chronicles interpretation of the Quarrymen, that they (judging from their tactics) know the truth about the gargoyles. If the Quarrymen really believed that the gargoyles were evil monsters, they'd be expecting them to do a lot of damage on their own, and wouldn't see any need to capture one and manipulate him into doing such things. It's a forerunner of their actions in "Generations" (the staged mugging) and "Angels in the Night" (the recording masquerading as an endangered child, and Castaway's statement that he knew that the gargoyles wouldn't turn their backs on innocent people). It also indicates all the more that the GC Quarrymen can't be doing this out of well-intentioned concern of protecting people from the gargoyles; they'd never have employed out-and-out criminals like Jackal and Hyena or plotted to blow up a major L.A. landmark if that was the case. Which still has the disadvantage of no explanation as to how it went from the frightened citizenry at Castaway's meeting in "The Journey" to the thoroughly villainous and callous "professional bad guys" in all the other episodes.

But Jackal and Hyena were indeed a lot of fun in the episode - one bit that hasn't been mentioned here yet is how Jackal dons a director's beret at the shoot. It's something that he certainly would do.

Warcrafter: All I know is that I saw an ad for this movie on TV yesterday, and followed up on amazon.com (check the link). The DVD is supposed to come out this Tuesday. It might be old news, but this is the first I've heard of it.

Jurgan: Thank God! Someone else who's big on what ifs! And you also spotted the Puck inconsistency. Another thing I found curious is why Demona opted to remain flesh, even though she had no clan left. The thing I find fascinating about that is that we know how Goliath handles it. He's so overwhelmed with grief that he chooses to end his life (at least, that's how it seemed from the standpoint of the 10th Century, a time before more modern science) and join his clan in sleep. Perhaps Demona felt more hatred than grief, and chose to remain awake out of a desire to take revenge upon humanity. Also, in Christine's rewrite, Titania mentions to Goliath that Katherine wasn't there to look after the eggs (which I think implies that Demona faced the same choice as Goliath on the clifftop and, unlike Goliath, chose revenge over saving the princess). Which makes me wonder, even though Demona was still awake, did she still turn her back on them? I would think that if she were in the same position as Goliath and chose to remain awake out of a desire for vengeance, she'd want to look after the eggs because that would give her thirty-six innocent minds that she could pass her hatred for our species onto. But who knows? Perhaps even Demona has limits.

And as far as Fox's character in "Ransom" is concerned, she's a black belt. True, she was carrying Alex when Doyle came at her, but she still would have jump-kicked him.

Matt: Yeah, I figured that Oberon's edict was "gargoyles only." I'm just wondering if Demona and Thailog were in the city when the spell was cast. Basically, because I'm pondering what their reaction might have been had they seen a Japanese monster-sized Oberon attacking the Eyrie Building. But I imagine that if Demona saw every human in the city was sleeping, she would probably just grab mace and laser gun and wipe out a block of them.

Vinnie: Elisa might not have joined the Quarrymen in the actual TGC episode, but she still hated gargoyles. I do believe that hatred is what inspired her to join the taskforce.

Jurgan:<Second, Elisa didn't join the Quarreymen.> While the episode For It May Come True was the episode I hate most about TGC. The one thing I disagree with you on is that Elisa never joined the Quarrymen in Titania's make believe world, that was an undercover assignment before the vision started. I don't think the Quarrymen existed in either version of the vision.

Jurgen> Good point about Fox being out of character in Ransom. That was one of those thing sthat bothered me. It wasn't just her emotional breakdown, but also the way she tried to offer Lex to the kidnappers without hesitation. That seemed weird, though maybe she would do that.
As for Jackal and Hyena, I guess we'll have to disagree. From their first appearence they seemed like two villains that could pull off the humourous angle and still be a threat. Even Dingo called them clowns! I mean, I feel the same way about how they were in The Green. Funny, but also a threat. I feel the "Broadway has left the building" line was perfectly in character for them.

As for Christine's story, one reason Xanatos doesn't know Owen is Puck could be that in Titania's alternate history, Goliath never tossed the Gate into time so Brook never went on his Timedance. Without Brooklyn, the whole Demona/Owen/Xanatos stuff could've happened much differently, though its hard to say exactly how since we don't know that whole story.

Warcrafter: That was Jeff Bennett doing Lumiere? Aw, man, now I feel bad for panning him so badly. I didn't think he did a very good job with Lumiere, and hearing it just made me miss Jerry Orbach even more.

Matt: I'll agree "Ransom" wasn't unbearably terrible, as some believe, but Fox was way out of character. I don't begrudge her crying over her son, but damn, was she ever going to DO something? I can imagine her searching all over the city for Alex, beating up street thugs to get information. Then maybe things slow down for a bit- she's on a train or something- and we see a single tear roll down her face. That would have been a trained mercenary and a loving mother in one, far superior to her breaking down and crying helplessly. It also might have been interesting if Doyle hadn't been behind the kidnapping and had remained a credible civilian threat to the gargoyles, although that might have been redundant with Margot.

I don't really remember enough of "Runaways" to comment, except that Goliath treating Brooklyn as a child was stupid when Brooklyn had led the clan pretty well during the World Tour.

"Broadway Goes Hollywood" was fun, and one of a few TGC episodes I kind of like (the others being "The Dying of the Light" and "Genesis Undone"), but I have to disagree about Jackal and Hyena being so great in it. I thought it was the end of them as a serious threat. Yeah, some of the lines were funny, but when they quipped "Broadway has left the building!" IN UNISON, that was the end. From then on, I took them about as seriously as Team Rocket.

I read Christine's rewrite of "For it May Come True" a few days ago. Naturally, it was very good. There were two main improvements over the TGC episode. First, Goliath was tempted to stay in his new life, which made more sense than in the episode where he was wishing he could have a life with Elisa, and then immediately trying to get back as soon as he got it. Second, Elisa didn't join the Quarreymen. Elisa was a decent person before meeting Goliath, so not knowing him should not have turned her into a bigot. Casual dismissal of gargoyles- "If they're real, I wish someone would shoot one of them" is okay, since she didn't know they existed. Major coincidences, like the same gargoyles surviving the massacre, are fine, because they are possible, if unlikely, and Titania would have made the most shocking world that was possible. The height was probably seeing what happened to the clan, and that was highly credible, since Demona as leader would have had a major role in shaping their personalities. And I had no problem with Macbeth being there, as the Weird Sisters almost certainly had more than one motivation for binding him and Demona, even if Greg hasn't shown us it yet- it's a stretch, but not a terrible one. Demona killing Fox was very good, but I wonder how they met The Pack in that timeline. I guess Xanatos would still test his pawns against each other, and I wonder how he reacted to having his girlfriend killed. There was one thing I can't see as not being a mistake, though: Xanatos should have known that Owen was Puck. While the timeline diverges by Goliath's non-birth back in 930ish, and again when some human is born in 1960ish, for the 20th century characters the timeline doesn't diverge until they meet the gargoyles, which is presumably still in 1994. Xanatos had known Owen was Puck ever since Owen started working for him, which was long before he met Goliath, and so he still should have known without ever meeting Goliath. I know I probably shouldn't expect strict logic from a world designed purely to shock Goliath (certainly Puck's Future Tense illusion was full of holes), but I'm a fan of alternate history, and so these what if's fascinate me.

One more thing. I have realized that whenever I make a comment, it doesn't really represent Gargoyles that much. I appologize for that and I will try to get in with the REAL program.

Spen> Southeastern Iowa? Not much there... except corn. Lots of corn.

HofEyes> In The Gathering, Oberon's sleep command did put Elisa to sleep even though Goliath clearly considers her part of the Clan. I doubt Oberon is too well informed on the whos who in the Manhattan Clan, and therefore I would think Demona and Thailog would remain awake. Greg W said something about this in the archives somewhere. He said that when Oberon thinks Goliath's Clan hes thinking gargoyles. So pretty much his sleep command was geared towards non-gargoyles.

I found an old tape today with the first few episodes of TGC on it. I watched The Journey and partially since I was bored and partially because I havn't viewed them in awhile I continued to watch "Ransom", "Runaways" and "Broadway Goes to Hollywood". I tried to keep an open mind and see how bad I feel they really are. My thoughts:
Ransom: Not terrible. I think with some minor tweaking here and there this one could have been salvagable. A few things bothered me or didn't make sense, but generally I thought it was alright. It even got a laugh out of me in the scene where Goliath, Angela and Hudson are taking out Doyle's security guys left and right and Elisa is cuffing them and remarks, "I'm gonna run outta cuffs...".
Runaways: Ugh, this one wasn't good. Cheesy and boring. At the end I was left with so many questions because many things were not too clear. The scenes did not flow well, they seemed to hop around a lot. Particularly weird was seeing Brooklyn in an alley near Radar's warehouse, then seeing him in the Castle library then going right back to the same part of town he was at before. Why'd he go back there? And why did Goliath need to drag him home at the end? Wasn't he just walking and talking fine? And what was up Goliath's loincloth? He seemed to be bitching the whole episode. Anyway, a mess this one.
Broadway Goes to Hollywood: I've said it before and I'll say it again, I feel that besides The Journey, this is the best episode in TGC. Partially because it makes sense (wouldn't tv networks love to have a gargoyle on their shows?) and partially because it is funny (Jackal and Hyena crack me up in this one). The problems are only that the rest of the season the humans all acted like Broadway had never been on tv and had that interview. Surely nearly everyone in America would have watched the interview. Maybe some people are still suspicious, but in the rest of the episodes its like people forgot gargoyles could even talk. Anyway, I don't blame this episode. Back to Jackal and Hyena. Man, they make this episode work. It makes sense that the Quarrymen would hire them for this project. Its almost like they are being hired by anyone who has something against gargoyles. Anyway, they have some great lines: "Broadway is about to find out just how cruel this town can be." "Broadway has left the building!" "Quiet on the set. We have to get this in one take." And my personal favorite was all the banter between Hyena and Fox "Domestic life has left you soft." "We can't all marry billionaires!" Thats great.

Anyway, as far as I recall, the rest of TGC was a train wreck (literally at times, if I remember correctly). It has been a slow day, so I thought I'd write all this out. Feel free to comment.

Wow. I just now saw a commercial for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. The game kicked ass. I wonder if the movie (and yes, I know it picks up where the game left off) will be any good. I might just have to buy it anyway. 15 bucks is cheap for two discs.

Todd: Fortunately for them, it didn't seem to matter much. Oberon seemed to be focusing more on getting them off the island than anything else. But I imgaine when they related the tale to him, they fudged a lot of details. Still, since fate is a part of them, I imagine they had an idea of what would eventually become of everything. Or so I gathered (no pun intended) from those enigmatic looks we got from them at the end of "Ill Met By Moonlight."

One thing I wonder about "The Gathering," and I don't know if Greg has ever answered this. Were Demona and Thailog still overseas when Oberon took Manhattan? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the reason the gargoyles weren't put to sleep was because of Oberon's decree back on Avalon. If Demona and Thailog were in Manhattan, I wonder if that decree would apply to them as well.

Nikki, re: Disney films> Who here considers any Pixar film to be a "Disney film"? I don't. I'm pretty sure that all Pixar films, through Cars, are "A Disney presentation of a Pixar film". To me, that's almost the same as calling all the Studio Ghibli films "Disney films". About the only Disney sequel that was anything close to good was Fantasia 2000, only because, with the exception of all the horrible bits between the animation (did they have ANY clue as to the audience that wanted this movie?!?), it would be extremely difficult to screw it up.
Blaqthourne & Crimson Fury

Still on the subject of Disney films etc, what does everybody think of the sequel films? The only sequel I have enjoyed was Toy Story 2. I found the others totally disappointing. Take Lion King 2 for example. I think it was a mockery. In the first film the animals acted like animals, they were believable, rounded characters, and I cared about what happened to them and was interested in the story. However in the sequel, in Rafiki's song - the animals are doing the conga dance!!!!! It's almost as if Disney are living off past glories by creating trash with what's left over. I for one miss the old Disney magic. You can't beat class.

HARVESTER - Keep in mind that the Weird Sisters obviously wouldn't have wanted Oberon to know that, only shortly after he and the rest of the Third Race left, three mere humans defeated them and moved into Avalon. Such a statement wouldn't say much about their competency as guardians. Animation errors> The thing in City of Stone that bugs me the most is Lexington's wings. In the initial hostage scene, we see Goliath and the Trio gliding towards the building and all four of them have FLAPPING wings. Later when Demona changes the access code and is talking to Bronx about it there is a shot from below of the Manhattan and Steel Clans flying over the city and Lexington CLEARLY has wings akin to Goliath and the others. Its one of the best things about the DVD, you can pause and get these great clear pictures.
And then there is Goliath's ankle bracelet that is only on him for 10 seconds...

HoE> If they hadn't done it, it would've been too OOC for them. As Greg W. himself said, (in the City Of Stone commentary, I believe) the Weird Sisters represent Faith, Revenge, and something else which I can't remember. It wouldn't have been much of a revenge on their part if they had simply just waited for Oberon to return. Besides, even if they knew he was coming back to Avalon, who's to say (Besides Greg W. himself, of course) that they knew WHEN he would return? For all they could've known, it might've been another 1,000 years in our time before his return. I highly doubt that they would've allowed the humans/Gargoyles to flourish further on Avalon in that time period.

Speaking of animation errors, I noticed a couple more in "City Of Stone". First off, despite the fact that Bodhe supposidly stayed on the upper balcony in part one, in one shot he's clearly seen next to Gruoch.
Also, in part four, Macbeth's eyebrows changed from gray to black in the final scene of the flashback.

Just got through reading Christine Morgan's story again (I'd read it a few years ago, when it first came out). For me, one of the funniest moments is when Owen describes the human Goliath to Xanatos as one of the workers in "Section 7-G". (I suppose that we all knew that Owen would have to say something like that in a fanfic somewhere sooner or later....)

One thing that I can't help wondering about, though, is Macbeth's presence in this alternate universe. Titania indicates at the end that in the alternate world, the eggs were never taken to Avalon, which means, in turn, that the Weird Sisters wouldn't have been banished by the Magus and so wouldn't have the purpose of making Demona and Macbeth immortal so that they could use them to help recover Avalon.

Dragomir: Well, that is a possibility, since their tails also disappeared. But "Fang and Tiger"?

Matt: Yeah, I have a feeling that if Hudson dies in 2004, Xanatos would probably not be his killer. But assuming that his demise is set for 2004, wouldn't it be interesting if his killer was Coyote? I think Greg has said that Coyote 6.0 and 7.0 would still be using the basic program the others used.

And I too thought Christine's rewrite did its job better than the original episode. One thing I found interesting, though, was that I gathered from one of Demona's comments that Owen hadn't revealed his true self to Xanatos. Which makes me wonder just how the original meeting between Xanatos and Demona might have been facilitated. Seems kind of stupid of me to be pondering like that over a fanfic, but I just can't think of any other way they might have met.

I think Talon was only able to do that because his mutate body was not fully developed yet, and whatever system by which the flow is controlled was not yet working. Think about it this way, if they could fire electricity from their entire bodies, why didn't they use that particular ability whenever they got into a grappling match with a gargoyle and were not able to seize them with their hands. If they could, Fang and Tiger could have fried Broadway and Brooklyn no matter where they hit or touched them, instead of trying to use their hands. Kick em, bite em, etc. What do you think, am I barking up the wrong tree again? If so...Get me down!!! AAAAHHH!!!

Greetings all...

Nikki - I'm hoping that if they ever release "Gummi Bears" that they don't botch it like they did with "Duck Tales" and "Rescue Rangers". I'm so looking forwards to "Tale Spin", since not only does it feature a new twist on the characters from "The Jungle Book", but it's somewhat reminicent of another flying adventure series from the 1980's - "Tales of the Gold Monkey".

Re: Gargoyles Comic - Been lurking while listening to everyone talk about their POV on the comic's execution, artwork and such. Personally, I'll reserve judgement until I have the first issue in my hands, since it may very well be far different than just the few preview pages we've seen.

I do look forwards to seeing Greg's work once more, in a different medium. It's gotten so it's no surprise lately when an animated show has a pretty good story, that his name is on the writer's byline.

Got to wish everyone a safe trip and fun times at the Gathering. Hope it all goes well!

One last thing before I get back to writing... Congrats on the promotion, Kythera!

Hi guys! I noticed something interesting today while looking for screenshots for my website. We've all heard about the two Hudsons from Kingdom, but has anyone ever mentioned the two Morgans from Turf?

You can see them right here. What makes this even more baffling is that they're both in the same shot, unlike the two Hudsons from Kingdom, which were on opposite sides of the pan.

You can see the two Hudsons here (notice Broadway's split wing and, of course, Bronx):

As for the Future Tense predictions, I realize that it was all an illusion conjured by Puck, but much of it was based on events that Puck somehow knew would happen (except for the whole Xanatos conquering New York as computer program and killing Alex, etc). I never said that Demona and Brook would get together, or that i want them too, just that it would have fit in nicely with what Puck had predicted and that I personally would have found it ironic that two people who hated eachother throughout much of the series become lovers (and no one can comvince me that such a thing would have been freaking hilarious, yet beautiful in a way). Brook's not cool enough for Demona anyway, lol.

Obviously, I don't feel Puck's vision was entirely a prophecy, but I do think there is a little bit. Its almost as if Puck got a general idea of the future, but got details wrong. Like he sensed that Brooklyn would be seperated from Goliath for 40 years, ally with Demona, find a mate and become a mature, strong leader, but he got things wrong. Brook would go off for 40 years and in that 40 years he will be allies with Demona, find a mate and grow to be a leader, but not as Puck portrayed it. The mention of the UltraPack was another thing. Hudson's death might be another thing. Maybe it will happen in 2004, but not in a swordfight with Xanatos or something. The Clocktower could be a good guess, but it seems reasonable to me that Puck may have also had the foresight to see it coming. Notice that just as in "Hunter's Moon" only the upper Clocktower part of the building was destroyed, the rest of the building was relatively unscathed. Even the ruins looked similiar. Thats a hell of a coincidence. I think Puck sensed certain events or images and incorporated them into the ruse. Some things however he totally fabricated of course, but I attribute all this to his Trickster nature. Why would he even bring up the fact that it could be a prophesy to Goliath if he hadn't been thinking parts of it were? I dunno. I think Puck was making more than natural conclusions and lucky guesses, but I also think he made some things up off the top of his head.

HofEyes> Do you (or does anyone) have a link to the "For it may come true" rewrite by Christine? I always thought in that episode that Titania was showing how things would've been had Goliath chosen not to go under the sleep spell with the other 5 back in 994 and instead done his own thing. i guess like many things in TGC, the details are unclear.

Todd: As I've said before, Christine Morgan's rewrite of "For It May Come True" was far more logical than what we saw on TV. Perhaps one of the more frightening things about that was that if Goliath had never existed, Demona would become leader of the clan, and thus would have carried out the plan she and the captain had wanted to all along.

And since the object behind the vision in "Future Tense" was to wear Goliath down enough mentally so he'd give over the Phoenix Gate, I just think that Puck figured a nice little piece of sensory assault would be to pair Demona and Brooklyn up. But one thing I have been wondering, since reading a post of Matt's a few weeks ago. In the vision, Hudson died in 2004. In 1996, that's still eight years away, but I suppose only time will tell if that's accurate. Puck did have a few good guesses, after all...

I side with Patrick on this one (the Puck and "Future Tense" issue, I mean). Keep in mind, also, that a few elements of "Future Tense" obviously won't be fulfilled. Goliath and his companions got back to New York in 1996 rather than being gone for forty years, for one thing. Also, I can't imagine Xanatos acting the way that he was in "Future Tense" (though admittedly it was a computer program controlled by Lexington masquerading as Xanatos) simply because the "Future Tense" actions were too melodramatic, too "cliched cartoon villain" for him; if Xanatos *did* take over Manhattan, it would be in a far more subtle fashion than having people huddled out on the streets and Steel Clan robots and Mutate soldiers on patrol all about.

Even the two big "lucky guesses" (the clock tower's destruction and Alex) aren't quite so remarkable when you give them some thought. The destruction of the clock tower would have been a logical ingredient in any "gloom-and-doom" setting for the gargoyles (and from what little evidence we have, I'd say that the culprit was Xanatos rather than the Canmores - with Goliath and Angela not in New York, the Hunters' encounter with the gargoyles would have been very different in this scenario even if it had taken place, and since we have no evidence that Owen/Puck knew about the Canmores at the time, I doubt that it did). And in his Owen capacity, Puck would know what names Xanatos and Fox were picking for their son.

Then again, these Third Race-provided visions do seem to have their share of plotholes. While the Goliath Chronicles shouldn't count anyway, one thing that I can't help but think about Titania's alternate world in "For It May Come True" is this: take away Goliath from the Wyvern clan in 994, and if there were any survivors in modern-day New York (and that would be a big "if"), they'd most likely be a different group than Hudson, the trio, and Bronx. Te reason why they survived was because of specific decisions that Goliath made (taking Hudson with him, sending the trio and Bronx to the rookery) that another leader might not have made (depending on who the leader was, the gargoyles might well have simply left Castle Wyvern once relations went downhill with the humans rather than stay there, or if the leader was Demona, they might all have been gotten out). But since this is a "Goliath Chronicles" episode that I'm talking about anyway, it probably doesn't matter so much.

Todd Jensen
"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

I don't know why everyone gives Puck so much undue credit for having powers of prognostication. I doubt he can see into the future. He's got a flair for the dramatic and he made a few lucky guesses.

Re: Gathering bids - I live in Cleveland, and I can say with certainty that there was never any serious talk of a Cleveland bid. Yes, it is required of the incoming con staff to send a few people to attend the current year's convention. That's not only a matter of practicality for pre-registration, it's also showing one's commitment to the job.

I must admit I prefer the more classic Disney films. As corny as I might sound in saying this, they did have a sort of 'magic' about them. My younger sister was far more entralled by sleeping beauty than she ever was with films like Atlantis with all its new animation technology.
I thought I had gone off the newer Disney films partly because I was older and seemingly more sophisticated. However when I watch a classic Disney film now, like Beauty and the Beast, even though I've seen it dozens of times I can't help but really enjoy it.
Perhaps Disney have tried to be too modern and 'hip'. I did enjoy Shrek but not as much as Beauty and the Beast, or The Little Mermaid. It just didn't hit the spot with me.
The more recent Disney films I have enjoyed towards the late nineties and onwards are Tarzan, Hercules, Mulan and A Bug's Life. My all time favourite though is The Little Mermaid. I would love to see Disney be back on top with something special.

I too love the Gummi Bears - was obsessed with them when I was younger.

Spen: You can't very take registrations for the following year's convention if you're not at the current one, can you? You also really shouldn't run a convention if you've never even attended one. Not everyone on your entire staff has to attend the current convention. You just need a representative there to pimp your con and take registrations for your year. But if no one on your staff plans to attend the current convention, then yeah, don't even bother to bid, because it's not going to get approved.

Also, if you bid for a place where only 300 people live, then yeah, that will get shot down too. I KNOW that Greg didn't mean LITERALLY your home town. I'm Con Chair for this years Gathering. The actual convention will be held about 30 minutes from my home. NOT in my home town. You have to put the convention where the facilities exist to hold it. Common sense.

current CG films> I'm pretty much a use the medium that would work best for the story. So while I have nothing against CG films, I do miss the regular 2D/hand animated films. There's a certain style(s) to it that CG can't match. Another thing is how a number of companies focus on the technology but fumble on the story and characters. That's what I didn't like about a number of films, none of the characters really stick out and I don't CARE about them. I tend to fall into a watching to see how the story ends. Hence why I rented Chicken Little and promptly returned it the next day. And it's not just CG films that do this: anyone remember "Sinbad?" Did they even know what audience they were aiming for? Lately, the only ones who seem to have caught onto pretty visuals and good story are Pixar, and a number of their crew were Disney vets (and Bird was WB, but still cool). The difference between a lot of the films out now as compared to a number then is how they appeal and stand up over time. Hence why a good, straightforward standard for me is "will I re-watch it?".

That said: "The Little Mermaid" is out this October, finally. The one good thing I got from renting Chicken Little.

Asatira

Jurgen> I agree with pretty much everything you said, with the possible exception of "Shrek" being a great movie. I think it was an okay and entertaining movie at best that happened to come along at the right time to be successful. And I think Disney got the wrong message from its success. "Shrek" showed just how ingrained in our public consciousness the concept of the Disney fairy tale film is. And even though audiences were willing, perhaps even relieved, to laugh at the cliches of the formula, I think it also pointed how well it resonated with them. After all, being parodied by Weird Al doesn't mean you're unpopular and nobody wants to hears your songs anymore. On the contrary, it's a sign that you've arrived; that your song is so well known that people can be expected to recognize a parody of it without having it explained to them. ("It's like that Michael Jackson song "Beat It", remember? But it's about food, so it's "Eat It" Get it?") But Disney, which already hadn't done a straight up fairy tale in quite some time, saw it as a sign of demand for films full of pop culture references and done in CG.

It is kind of a double edged sword though. I certainly don't want to say that Disney should never have tried to do anything different and should never do so in the future. After all, that would have meant no "Lilo and Stitch" (which, like it or not, is a huge merchandising cash cow for Disney, as Battle Beast noted), and more importantly given this forum, no "Gargoyles". But there is such a thing as balance. I think it would be quite possible for Disney experiment with different media and subjects and still satisfy the public demand for the occasional princess movie. I think the real problem is what Jurgen said: Disney continuing to try and play catch up to whatever DreamWorks and Pixar have been doing without taking the time to either look at their own strengths or look beyond the surface at what makes those other companies' films really successful.

Of course, now that the Disney/Pixar deal has happened and Lasseter and Catmull are heading up Disney Feature Animation, we may start to see some genuine innovation or a return to form for Disney, or both. From what I hear, there's already been a few shake-ups over at Disney Feature, so we'll see what happens.

Demonskrye
You bring up an animation topic, I'm gonna get long winded.

Disney hit a goldmine with Lilo and Stitch. I was at Disneyland in august and January, and that guy's everywhere, and, i must admit, I love him too.

He's the biggest thing to come out of the studio since the Lion King (Bigger than Tarzan, yes) and he's a cash cow pumping in millions for the mouse house.

DRAGOMIR> The only reason Puck put Demona and Brooklyn together in "Future Tense" was to fuck with Goliath's mind. Not everything was a prediction.

And, no, Demona and Brooklyn fighting in front of the clan only to make out in the broom closet wouldn't be "funny". It would be cliched, and stupid, and if I wanted that, I would go watch "Friends" or some other lame sitcom.

Ever since Shrek, Disney's been running scared in a fear that they have become obsolete. Shrek was a great movie because it was a parody of all of the things we come to expect in Disney fairy tale type stories. That doesn't mean that there's no room left for straight, unironic stories. Disney movies always had a sort of mythic weight to them, and the audience couldn't help but take them seriously. Now, it seems like unless a movie is loaded with pop culture references, it won't get made. In twenty years, everyone will still be able to watch Beauty and the Beast, but I doubt very many people will realize the aliens in Chicken Little look like the ones from War of the Worlds. Another obvious sign of the times is that everything has to be CGI. I don't mind CGI, but I like variety. Disney's lost confidence in themselves, though. You're Disney- the king of animation! Yeah, Dreamworks is competition, but they can't destroy Disney. If they'd just stop trying to imitate Shrek, I think we'd see a lot more quality out of the House of Mouse.

Matt Fews> Yeah, but isn't The Wild basically a knockoff of Madagascar? I mean its the exact same story just with a few different animals and the lion is looking for his son instead of his best friend. It reminds me of how Disney ripped off Kimba the White Lion to make the Lion King (good movie, but can't deny the obvious similarities). How do they get away with it? Must be finally running out of ideas...

Cobra> Yeah I know what Demona did to Brook, I'm just saying it would have been funny if they had developed a strange love/hate relationship on the show. You know, arguing in front of the clan, only to go off some where to make out in secret, scandalous! Imagine the looks on on the Manhattan Clan's faces as they open a broom closet to find Demona and Brooklyn togther in a very compromsing situation...It also would have fit in better with puck's predictions in Future Tense. P.S. although I look forward to meeting Nashville in the new comics, its going to be weird for me to see Brook with a different kid from the adorable Twins I've grown to love so dearly in the TGS fanfics (especially Ariana, Sailor senshi go! lol). You know what I mean man?

Everyone> I thought up a new topic to discuss, hope you'll find it interesting. It concerns the electokinetic powers of the mutates, AKA their ability to produce and control electricity. My question is, how would water effect their lightning throwing abilities? I know they get their electric powers from electric eel DNA, but they are obviously still land creatures who are not designed for underwater combat. We know that they fire their lightning bolts in concentrated bursts from their hands only, not from their entire bodies. Does this mean that if they got wet or fell into a body of water while firing off a lightning bolt, that they would lose control of the bolts and electrocute themselves? Please tell me what you guys think.

that is all I will say.

I am amazed at how often this keeps coming up, especially since I know this has been explained several hundred times already.

The Gathering's location> Why is the Gathering held where it is held? Well, unlike most conventions, the Gathering has a revolving door staff. Each year, a bid is put together by a small group of fans ready to take the responsibility of running the con. It's a tough job.

The location of the Gathering each year, depends entirely on the staff. It's easier to do things like say, do business with a hotel, transport equipment you'd need from your house to the hotel, etc, etc if you lived within driving distance.

I was a Con Chair. I'm from New York, so, 2003 was hosted in New York. My Vice Con Chair was living in New York a the time also, so it seemed practical.

Jennifer Anderson is from Southern California, she's this year's Con Chair, so we have it there. Not to mention, we can get many, many guests in Southern California.

Hell, I'm most likely going to be moving to Southern Cali next year, if, say, I chose to host another Gathering, that's where it would most likely be.

I get tired of people saying "why can't the Gathering be here or there". Everyone wants the Gathering in there home town. But, the only way that will happen is if YOU take the responsibility to host it yourself. It's tough, but it can be a rewarding experience.

The Gathering is a convention run by fans, for fans. So, by taking initiative, it's the fans who decide where the Gathering is held. The ones who work hard to make it happen.

BTW, I'm not coming down on anyone right now, so please, don't take it that way. Just trying to explain how it is.

Here in Edmonton, We had our own "Disney Afternoon" hosted by a local host on a local channel (8). It was two hours long on Saturdays, and one hour on Sundays. It was like this: Gummie Bears, Chip & Dale, Talespin, Dark-Wing Duck. Eventually, we got Bonkers, Aladdin, Shnookums and Meat, Hercules, Marsupeelami (?) and ... Gargoyles.

The first four shows were my favs; the rest (Gargoyles excluded) couldn't comapre.

But it was Talespin that I first saw, and it was during the 30 seonds before the show that I got my picture on TV for having a birthday. ^_^ *Remembers the good ole days*

As you can imagine, I'm totally pumped for TaleSpin, since it was the inspiration for me to get my pilots' license way back in 1994. Ideally, I'd like for them to put BOTH versions of the pilot on, since the shortened 4-part version has a few small scenes that the long-run movie-style version doesn't, but if I had to pick, I'd rather the movie-style one (I never /did/ see the end of it due to VCR issues the one time it was on in my area, so there's some scenes I've yet to see at all.)

Like you, that's the only one I've ever made it to, although... *stops talking for fear of jinxes*. The reason why they're often in LA or NY, as I gather, is that that's where a lot of the potential guests live. I too doubt that Lex's sexuality will be brought up in the comics anytime soon (if at all considering how Disney runs things...bah). I'm sure Lex will still dazzle us with his technical expertise, curiousity, and young enthusiasm as he always has in the past (love that little guy...sniff...promised I wouldn't cry). Before I learned he was gay, I often wondered what would happen if he suddenly developed a schoolboy crush on the ever manipulative Demona (she being the only female garg in Manhattan besides the Angela and the clone Delilah). Lol, chaos would have ensued I'm sure...man I have a weird imagination (but that's what makes me so fun to be around, lol). Maybe I'll write a fanfic about it...
Anywho, I hope we learn more about the comic soon and I hope that you guys all had a Happy Easter as well...I'm high on reeses chocolate right now...beware! P.S. has anyone heard of a fanfic character named Kasumi? She's supposed to be an evil gargoyle sorceress who was banished from Ishimura, know where I can find some fanfics about her?

"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

*Pops back in* Yeah, what Kyt said - I am so deep in debt this year there is no hope of me getting to LA.
I am severely peeved at this >.<

Patrick, re: Anaheim Gargoyles> That's the first I've ever heard of that. From what I've read, Gene Autry named the team the Angels from the get-go ("It was also a nod to the long-successful PCL team {LA Angels} that played in Los Angeles from 1903 through 1957" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaheim_Angels ). And I've NEVER heard of them possibly changing their nickname. Where did you see that?

Anyone interested in going to baseball games> I'm planning on going to the Dodgers game on Thursday night (and Wed. night if I get into town that early--I've got a 21 hour drive to LA and am still deciding when I'm leaving home) and the Angels game Monday night.

Marty Lund> I'll be at the Arizona game Tues. (6/27) night as well.

27 parks down, 7 to go.

Todd>The easiest way to order from SLC is by calling them at: 800-866-8929 during the day and just ordering by phone (they're quite nice about the whole thing). It costs the price of the comic along with shipping ($4 for one, etc.). You can also try their web order link (located on their FAQs site), but I haven't had much luck with that link; it always seems to be down. If you really need to order by web rather than phone try emailing them at: orders@slavelabor.com and I'm sure they'll give you the best way for your situation.
Good luck.

Any word on a bid for G'07?

King Kobra-- Uh... I don't mean to speak for Chameleongirl, but I think you're misinterpreting her post. She's lamenting that a guest she would REALLY REALLY like to meet IS going to be at the Gathering. Due to circumstances, she can't make it this year.

If only I could find that winning lottery ticket...

Kingcobra> Don't worry about it. Honestly, I HIGHLY doubt that Lex being gay will EVER come up in the comics unless the comic lasts for years and has a ton of spinoffs and all that, amybe then, but it will not be soon and it will almost certainly not "come out" in the first year or two.

Anyway, i'm kinda in the same boat as Todd is, I'm not really sure what to do about the comic. In fact, Todd, you are in the CWE right? I'll be moving into an apartment only a mile or two away from you in a couple weeks! I think that will make us the two regulars who live nearest to each other.

King Cobra: Last I heard, it was still coming out in June. I don't know, there are others in the fandom more learned than me.

Chameleongirl> Hey, look at the bright side. At least Greg W. and the entire clan's VAs will still be there. As long as Keith, Thom, Jeff, and Bill don't drop out, I'll be happy. Greg definitely won't. He's always there.

HoE> Any further news on the comic?

Wingless> Yeah, I heard about that news on Wikipedia when I was reading their article(s) on DW. I really hope they get the proper pilot episodes. It threw me watching DuckTales, and knowing that Webby and Mrs Beakley were introduced but not having those episodes (for some reason, most likely when I originally caught the episodes, I thought they were introduced later with that multiparter; didn't know that was the start of the series. been a while)

Now all I need is Gummi Bears.

Asatira

Don't know if this is common news, but according to TV shows on DVD website, that along with Darkwing Duck, Disney is finally going to be releasing Tale Spin-likely in August. Let's hope we get the pilot proper on this set like we didn't Ducktales and Rescue Rangers-and that the audio is in true stereo, since Tale Spin was the first of the Disney afternoon series presented in true stereo.

King Cobra: You and me both. I don't even know if I have anything in this area.

Matt: Yeah. It sounded like Lexington was going to give Fox another chance, but I have a feeling he's still going to be pretty pissed off at Wolf, Jackal, and Hyena. I don't know if Lex and Dingo would ever meet again, but it wouldn't surprise me if Lex is still harboring animosity towards him as well.

Matt> Okay, you were right. I was being stupid. Stopping to think isn't really my strong point. And now I'm feeling guilty and embarassed and... gah.

Okay, got that off my chest. Feeling better now.

Catch a ballgame? Well, you might be able to do that after the Gathering is over with. The LA Angels are actually playing an Interleague away-game in Phoenix while I'm out of Phoenix at LA. Go figure.

Come Monday they'll be starting a 3-game homestand against the Rockies though. :)

Dodgers will be playing Friday - Sunday at home, but then hitting the road on Monday.

Marty Lund - [lundmart (at) comcast (dot) net]

Patrick> Seriously? Heh. That would've been interesting.
King Cobra3 - [KingCobra_582@hotmail.com]

Catching a ballgame would be somewhat appropriate seeing as one of the names considered for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim was the "Anaheim Gargoyles."

Too bad it didn't happen. I'd pay good money to see a Goliath mascot kicking the San Diego Chicken's butt.

67 days left until The Gathering 2006 in Valencia, California!

King Cobra3 - [KingCobra_582@hotmail.com]

Matt> "Speaking of the comic, whoever said last week that the first Issue to focus on Lex will be about him being gay is being silly. I don't get why people seem to think that that is all Lex is going to be about."

Matt, if you're referring to my comment, you're reading too much into it. I never said that it would be in the 1st issue (if indeed it would be in any issue at all) nor do I think that that's all he's about. I was just speculating. Re-read the entire message next time.

If it's NOT about my comment, then I apologize for my response and you should just ignore this entire post.

Comic pre-order> I really need to get off my lazy a** and start looking around for comic stores in my area that'll have it.

King Cobra3 - [KingCobra_582@hotmail.com]

Todd-- My bet is that you'll be able to order it from the SLG webstore once the book is out on shelves. No idea if they'll havep preorders. You might want to email about that.

Could anyone here please tell me how I can order the "Gargoyles" comic book on-line from Slave Labor Graphics? There aren't any comic book stores in my neighborhood, and getting to ones in other parts of town is currently a bit iffy.
