Got a question. It took 3 months to make the Labyrinth clones, right?

That means there's a 0% chance of seeing the results of Sevarius's new clones within the current 12 issue Clan Building Arc, right?

Whatever happenned to simplicity?

I just got back from a friend's house (the same friends I've been going through the first 65 episodes of "Gargoyles" with). Tonight we watched "The Edge" and "Long Way to Morning." I spotted something amusing in the latter episode. I never noticed before that Demona's gun changed into stone along with her in the third act. She must have really, REALLY liked that gun. Not that I blame her.

I was just throwing it out there to see if anyone was excited about Medieval Times as much as I am. I've been to the one in NJ and FL and it's awesome, freakin' expensive, but awesome.

I certainly think that the Clones are part of the Clan-Building as well, given how much they've changed - especially Delilah and Brentwood. Both show how much they've actually made their own choices; Delilah freely rejects Thailog (and also is ready to tell off Angela and Goliath), and Brentwood is now working for Thailog, not out of the old "obey Thailog" mentality, but because he's genuinely impressed with his cunning and wants in on the action. The other Clones haven't stood out as much yet, but we can safely assume that they've genuinely chosen life in the Labyrinth now.

Anyone listen to the Spider-man Greg Weisman interview? It's a really good interview. The show sounds like it has real promise. I look forward to March 2008.

Speaking of 2008, I'm seriously considering going to The Gathering next year. I just did some research and there is a Medieval Times in Chicago area. Would anyone going to the Gathering '08 be interested in going to MEDIEVAL TIMES?

"Obviously, there is a lot going on in the next three-part story. #6 is going to be smaller... I still wonder how Shari knows about their trip to Tibet, but we'll find out soon."

As a guess: maybe they meet someone in Tibet who's secretly an Illiminatus? Maybe the Dahli Lama's assistant is a member!... or not, but that would fit their M.O.

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

***SPOILERS & POTENTIAL SPOILERS***

MATT> The question is, will they re-join the clan this soon? It would enforce the clan building theme, but with Katana, Nashville, Fu-Dog and Tachi's egg on the way, do we want the main cast to grow so big so fast?

We know Coldsteel is definitely returning in #7, so I don't think it's too difficult to guess that Coldstone and Coldfire will be following.

#6: What promises Yetis, monks, deadly archers and long-lost cyborg-zombie rookery siblings with multiple personality disorder? That's right, it's Clan-Building, Chapter 6: Reunion. Thailog's new executive assistant keeps him busy with a tale of World Tour's past, as Goliath, Angela, Elisa, and Bronx journey to Tibet and encounter an old friend... or perhaps a foe.

#7: What's a gargoyle to do when Xanatos is on the job for the Illuminati; Coldsteel's in town; Thailog's breaking in new assistants, and Macbeth needs a favor? Well, what else can you do except... ROAD TRIP!!!! As Goliath and Elisa attempt to repair their relationship, the rest of the clan contemplates a change of scene. But how far should they go to save a slab of stone? And why is Fox buying new shoes? Find out in CLAN-BUILDING, Chapter 7: The Rock.

Obviously, there is a lot going on in the next three-part story. #6 is going to be smaller... I still wonder how Shari knows about their trip to Tibet, but we'll find out soon.

As for #7... Coldsteel is back, so like I said, I think Coldstone and Coldfire are back also... and if the trio and Angela are going on a "road trip" soon, it sounds like Goliath and Elisa will have their hands full at home.

The line that intrigues me is the one about Thailog breaking in new assistants. Maybe it just means Shari and Brentwood, maybe it means something else. I don't think that whatever Sevarius is working on with the gargoyles' DNA will be ready this soon... but, Thailog seems to be building something. My theory has been that he's putting together a syndicate of some kind.

So, the clan building theme obviously plays to more than just the Manhattan Clan. We've seen the formation of the Quarrymen, perhaps what ever it is Thailog is doing, and yes... what ever new additions the Manhattan Clan may end up with.

That would be awesome to have Coldstone and Coldfire finally join the Manhattan Clan. It would be nice if they had some more human allies as well i.e. Dr. Sato and maybe even Brendan Quarters just for the support for Phase 2.

This just occured to me. I recall when the tile for Issue #6 (Reunion) was first revealed there was a lot of guesses on who (or what) we would be reuniting with. One thought myself and others had was that we'd be seing the Coldtrio again. Obviously, we now know that Issue #6 will feature Coldstone, but in a sorta flashback.
The thought popped into my head, however, that since we know Coldsteel is going to appear in Issue #7, I think it may be likely we will see Coldstone and Coldfire pop up in Reunion, probably at the end. Having Coldstone and Coldfire rejoin the Clan would re-enforce the Clan-Building arc afterall.

"For every complex problem, there is a solution which is simple, easy, and wrong."

Guinevere could indeed be interpreted as having brought Arthur much harm, not only because of her affair with Lancelot, but also because she was barren, meaning that Arthur would have no legitimate offspring to succeed him. (On the other hand, in light of the affair of Lancelot, perhaps it was just as well that she was barren.)

Yeah, I had a feeling I got the two kings mixed up. Lot's easier to remember. I need to do some serious reviewing of my texts, but it certainly looks like a lot of Morgan's animosity is targeted at Guinevere, for many of the reasons already stated. I know it's been played up with a number of modern authors, namely Bradley, even though the harm is never intended to be physical. Creates a very interesting contrast between the two, and makes one wonder who did the most harm and good. I still have a bias for Morgan.

Morgan was married to King Uriens; King Lot was married to Morgan's sister (and Arthur's half-sister), Morgause. (Though the two of them have often been confused; their names are similar, for one thing.)

In the bulk of Malory, Morgan's schemes seem aimed more at Lancelot than at Arthur; in fact, the attacks that she makes on Arthur (such as the Accolon affair) take place before Lancelot comes to court. There's a story about Morgan that's not in Malory, but which appears in the works of his predecessors, that may shed some light on the subject. In the early days of Arthur's reign, Morgan has an affair with a cousin of Queen Guinevere's. Guinevere finds out about it and puts a stop to it at once, to Morgan's anger; she takes an intense dislike to Guinevere thereafter.

Which raises the interesting speculation: what if Morgan's real target was Guinevere all along? All of her attempts to murder Arthur take place before Lancelot shows up; perhaps the real objective of them was to make Guinevere into a widow. Then, of course, after Lancelot enters the picture and Morgan finds out about his affair with Guinevere, killing Arthur no longer seems so appealing: Guinevere could simply marry Lancelot after a suitable period of mourning. So Morgan proceeds to target Lancelot instead, trying to kidnap him and make him into her lover, or attempting to expose their affair to Arthur (she makes a few stabs at this, but they all fail). (She probably hates Guinevere all the more after this for a new reason: the hypocrisy of Guinevere objecting to Morgan's love-life while proceeding to have an affair of her own.)

To move the topic back to something more "Gargoyles"-ish before I scare all the people not interested in the Arthurian legend away:

Bishansky's mention of Demona's fear that it's no longer safe to pose as "Dominique Destine" reminds me of the creativity demon that I had some years back of the Daily Tattler publishing some rumors about Ms. Destine, and what Demona's response might be if she were to read them. (My own suspicion: shortly after that, the Tattler is forced to shut down due to the mysterious disappearance or deaths of most, if not all, of its staff, all of which take place after dark.)

Morgan le Fey's role> I began to really get interested in Arthurian romances after reading a young adult fantasy novel where one of the protagonists is Morgan, as a half fey. In the two books I read, it was revealed that she was never really an antagonist to Arthur or Camelot, but knights tended to show up to challenge her in some form or another (I believe they were prompted by a playful Merlin), and actually took on the role of protecting his lineage to the present day. So, I came to the "actual" Morgan LeFey with a certain bias. So I can easily see Le Fey has a supporter or at least somewhat neutral to Arthur in the present day. And looking back at the tales that really featured Morgan that I can recall, most of her antagonisms were directed at individual knights (like Lancelot and her husband, King Lot), not directly at Arthur. I think her role as antagonist to ARTHUR probably developed over time, like many things, and may even be a bit of mixing of roles with other important and minor females. And, keep in mind, in some versions it is Morgan who is with Arthur when he is taken to Avalon. I don't see her doing that if she hated him.
Asatira

Jurgan: Sevarius doesn't strike me as being a man of many scruples. I imagine if the money's right, he'll work for anyone. Besides, he seemed pretty casual around Thailog in "The Reckoning," too. I think Thailog has enough of Xanatos in him to acknowledge that Sevarius is more useful alive.
Harvester of Eyes - [Minstrel75 at gmail dot com]
"At least the killing part appeals to you, doesn't it?" -Durandal.

BISHANSKY - Yes, but the ambiguities were always about the characters ("good" ones might fall victim to temptation and do the wrong thing, such as Goliath kidnapping Sevarius, Brooklyn stealing the Grimorum for Demona, etc. - and "bad" ones would show a nobler side, such as Xanatos genuinely caring about his family). It didn't apply the ambiguities to the issues of what was the right thing to do or the wrong thing to do.
Todd Jensen
Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

TODD> Well, I would agree except that the series is called "Gargoyles: Pendragon" not "Gargoyles: Merlin". Merlin is one of the protagonists, but he's allowed to be a morally flawed one. The "Gargoyles" Universe does have them... look at the Director in "Gargoyles: Bad Guys". Based on what we know, he's an ends justify the means force for good.

Merlin brought about Arthur through terrible means, but, at this point it's about Arthur. Not Merlin. Arthur is not responsible for Merlin's crimes. And hey, Merlin already got his comeuppance. He was tricked by Nimue and sealed in the Crystal Cave... and Camelot was destroyed. I like to think Arthur has a clean slate this time.

Or not. Aren't the big grey ambiguities part of what makes "Gargoyles" great?

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The 12th Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]
"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics, and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Michael Straczynski

What I was specifically talking about was Merlin's motive in helping Uther was to bring about Arthur's reign. If Merlin was helping Uther for some other reason that had nothing to do with Arthur, it'd be different. But if Merlin assists Uther in order to bring about Arthur's reign and the Golden Age of Camelot, then that means that having Camelot thrive would be rewarding Merlin for his actions, which would clash with the moral tone in the series of "the end can't justify the means".

To explain a little further, I'll go into "The Cage". Goliath, desperate to help out Elisa, kidnaps Sevarius for the purpose of having him brew up an antidote to return the Mutates to normal. The consequences are disastrous: Talon becomes all the more convinced by the incident that Goliath and Sevarius are in cahoots, even thinks when he turns up at the underground lab that Elisa was part of it as well, and almost kills Goliath. (Not to mention that Sevarius's antidote was probably really poison, though we'll never know now.) Goliath's plan fails to achieve its purpose.

The real issue here isn't that Arthur is conceived through deception and rape. The issue is that Arthur is conceived through deception and rape deliberately engineered (on Merlin's part) to bring about a hero-king who will "rule with justice and compassion" and found a "kingdom of beauty and civilization". Having Arthur succeed under those circumstances would risk contradicting one of the series' tenets.

Now, if Merlin had a different motive for assisting Uther, as I said, it'd be another story. (Say, Merlin thinks that if Uther gets one night with Igraine, he'll get over his lust for her, make peace with Gorlois afterwards, and leave their family alone - unaware at the time that Gorlois is going to get slain in battle that same night, meaning that Igraine will be a widow whom Uther can easily snap up.)

Oddly enough, the conception of Sir Galahad, the knight who achieves the Holy Grail, offers a similar piece of "strange morals". Elaine, the daughter of King Pelles of Carbonek (a pre-Percival Fisher King and guardian of the Holy Grail), falls in love with Lancelot, and her father decides to help her get him because he knows that if they sleep together, Elaine will become the mother of Sir Galahad, who will achieve the Grail. So they set up a scheme whereby Lancelot is tricked into mistaking Elaine for Guinevere and going to bed with her - and it indeed produces Galahad, just as Pelles had hoped. (Evidently Percival/Duval isn't the first Fisher King who's yielded to the temptation to let the ends justify the means.) Modern-day versions have often downplayed Pelles' prophetic knowledge to make it entirely based on Elaine's longings for Lancelot - maybe because they think that it works better to have Galahad be an unintended side-effect of Elaine's plot than a deliberate goal of it.

The issue here isn't characters being all-good or flawed. The issue is whether the ends can justify the means or not. And "Gargoyles" always took the attitude that it couldn't, and that when the cast fell victim to that temptation, the consquences were not good ones.

Todd Jensen
Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Todd> Interestingly enough, we've been through this before. But, honestly, I don't see how Arthur shares any responsibility for what Merlin helped Uther do. Arthur may have been the result of the crime, but that is hardly his fault. Is Angela responsible for Demona's crimes? Not at all.

Yes, Merlin is a good guy, but he's not a saint. And I hope Greg does not gloss over this. He's never been one to sugarcoat things before. Just because someone's a good guy should not make them a saint... saints are very, very boring people.

"Gargoyles" has always been about shades of grey... Gargoyles: Pendragon" should be no different. Goliath is not a saint... he shirked responsibility so he could commit suicide, leaving his children to be raised by people who up until hours ago showed gargoyles nothing but contempt.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The 12th Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

BISHANSKY - I'd wondered myself whether Demona would have difficulties (or believe that she would have difficulties, which could come to the same thing) maintaining the alias of Dominique Destine after "Hunter's Moon". Of course, I doubt that the Canmores would have bothered revealing her true nature to the world (for one thing, who'd have believed them?), they might not even have mentioned that Ms. Destine had concocted a super-virus that could have wiped out the entire human race, but Demona would still be understandably nervous about what they'd learned (especially given how paranoid she is - though, if you spent almost a thousand years being hunted everywhere you went, you'd probably be paranoid too).

One issue about the conception of Arthur: I suspect that Greg might have chosen to dwell on it as little as possible, because of the dilemma that it would introduce in a "return of Arthur" story. Since Merlin helps Uther for the precise reason of bringing about Arthur's reign, Camelot, etc., that means that to have Arthur succeed (except for the "one brief shining moment" that gets undone by Mordred) would be to reward Merlin for his serving as Uther's accessory in his crimes (which would clearly clash with the "Gargoyles" tone of "the end can't justify the means" - particularly as displayed in "The Cage"). And the same would go for the re-awakened Arthur, since he's still the product of Uther's deception of Igraine. On the other hand, to have Arthur fail again would make all his adventures since being woken up by Elisa (such as recovering Excalibur) pointless. I don't think that there's a satisfactory way of solving this one. So the best way out would be to simply bring up the events at Tintagel as seldom as possible.

Todd Jensen

JURGAN. Gorlois was Igraine's husband... Merlin allowed Uther Pendragon to impersonate Gorlois so he could rape Igraine, thus conceiving Arthur. Says a lot about Merlin, doesn't it? ;)

As for Thailog and Nightstone> Keep in mind, he still has co-ownership of the corporation, and even if Demona changed the locks... this is Thailog we're talking about.

That being said, at the Gathering I asked Greg where Demona was while Thailog was meeting there with Sevarius. Greg said that Demona hasn't been back to Nightstone since Hunter's Moon. She's afraid her cover might be blown and is currently lying low... after all, the Hunters found out that Dominique Destine was a facade.

King Cobra: "Jurgan> I'm curious. What would you see the other option as being?"

I thought I explained it already. Issues 10-12 could start as just a normal story with the gargs fighting whatever villain was a danger that time, and then Brooklyn disappears and reappears with his family. Then the story continues with new characters. The alternative of showing one of Brooklyn's adventures and then jumping back to the present with him being older seems awkward to me, since people reading would expect to keep following Brooklyn until he got back to the present. Showing one story and then skipping all the rest might be a bit confusing, since we keep switching points-of-view. But I could live with it, and trust Greg to make it work.

Other matters:

No way Demona's an Illuminatus. She's far too much of an individual to work with any sort of secret society, even if she thought she could use them. She's willing to run organizations, like Nightstone, but I doubt she'd be willing to serve. I've also thought for a long time that that's why Xanatos is so low-ranked: he knows that the deeper he gets in the Illuminati, the more he has to devote to them. He's a self-made man, and wouldn't want to give his whole life to someone else. On the other hand, X's conversation with Quincy makes it sound like he hasn't been a member for very long (his "first real mission," for example), so maybe that's the reason. But I do think that becoming an Illuminati bigshot would not be consistent with Xanatos's long-term goals.

Speaking of Nightstone, did we ever figure out how Thailog is still there? Did he and Demona somehow each get a piece of the company after their falling out? Or is it that Demona still controls the company but Thailog secretly has some people in it, like Sevarius, working for him? And Sevarius seems awfully casual about working for someone who previously tried to kill him...

"ironically, she was raised by Gorlois and Igraine as Arthur's half sister"

Gorlois, you say? I have no idea who that is, since I don't know much about Arthurian legend, but interesting that it's also the Atlantean name for gargoyles. Coincidence?... possibly.

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

I've always been tempted to imagine Oberon and Titania's daughter as being Gloriana, but I don't know how familiar Greg Weisman is with the Faerie Queene (though he has mentioned reading it when somebody brought up Una's name in connection with it).

I've had my own thoughts about Morgan le Fay in the Gargoyles Universe lately. Most stories about King Arthur awakening on Avalon and returning to the modern (or possibly futuristic) world, such as Peter David's "Knight Life" or "Camelot 3000", make Morgan the main antagonist. We know, however, that Duval/Percival is apparently going to be the main antagonist in "Pendragon" (well, the Illuminati, but Duval is the individual member with the link to Arthur that we know of - which would be all the more interesting when his estranged wife becomes one of Arthur's party) - a concept which, to the best of my knowledge, has not been used in Arthurian fiction, and therefore stands out.

We know that Morgan is still alive in the Gargoyles Universe, though not her current status. (We don't even know if she was subject to the Gathering. On the one hand, she's one of the Third Race; on the other hand, her being raised among humans might make her not count in Oberon's eyes. We do know that she can't be in the "summoned, but refused to return" category, since it was specifically mentioned in "The Gathering Part One" that the only members of the Third Race who hadn't shown up on Avalon for the Gathering were Titania and Puck.) Greg's also mentioned that she hasn't seen Arthur for a long time (probably not since he was brought to Avalon), and that she was one of the women who brought him there after his battle with Mordred.

While I think it likely that Morgan was hostile towards Arthur during his original reign in the Gargoyles Universe (maybe over a desire to seize his throne as in Malory, maybe over bitterness over what Uther Pendragon did to her "parents" as in modern-day Arthurian fiction, maybe both), I wonder whether she might have put aside her old hostility by now. It would certainly make Arthur's adventures in "Pendragon" all the more original if Morgan no longer hated him and had maybe gotten on with her life, instead of scheming for his destruction. (And it might be appropriate; in the early legends about Morgan and Arthur, she isn't his enemy, but brings him to Avalon and tends his wounds at the end. The notion of them being at odds came along later in the development of the Arthurian cycle, and in its early stages, she was even depicted as more an enemy to Guinevere than to Arthur himself.)

This is just a speculation, but it's one that interests me.

Vicky> Demona is not a member of the Illuminati, although, according to Greg, they are aware of each other.

Demona regards the Illuminati as a threat, and they regard her as a loose cannon.

In any event, I hope she's not a member. Three of the four main villains are already members (Xanatos, Thailog and Castaway).

******************SEMI SPOILERS*****************************

With Thailog a memeber of the Illuminati, I wonder if there any other gargoyles in the Illuminati too. It wouldn't surprise me if Demona was a member but it wouldn't make any sense since she hates humans. I wonder who got Thailog to join Illuminati (I expect we will find out soon)

********************End Spoilers****************************

Vicky82 - [Vickyfanofwwe at aol dot com]

Oh, I'm definitely sure that there is at least one Child of Oberon in the Illuminati. If I had to pick one, my first choice would be Morgana la Fay. We know she'll be playing a role of some kind in "Pendragon", and we know she's a Child of Oberon.

Personally, I think she's the biological daughter of Oberon and Titania. Which would make her Merlin's half sister... though, ironically, she was raised by Gorlois and Igraine as Arthur's half sister... how's that for irony?

Tony: Interesting, the idea that a member of the Third Race could be in the Illuminati. Given that there are members of the other two races, I think it's very likely that there is one of the Third Race. I doubt it's Oberon- he seems mostly aloof to mortal affairs. Maybe one of the Weird Sisters- their plans are so far-reaching that they might see a mortal organization as useful. Definitely not Puck. Perhaps someone we've never seen before. It'd be interesting.
Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Yeah, I guess I was just thinking out loud. It's not the greatest theory, but I was thinking that the Illuminati, as far as we know, has had members including an immortal knight, a Norman ambassador, an old White House chief steward, a young beautiful girl, an eccentric billionaire, an old gangster, an FBI agent, a leader of a destructive faction, a clone of a Gargoyle, and a NYC detective, you might think that there might be room for a child of Mab in the society somewhere, no?

Tony> We already know who Duval is, and it's not Oberon's alter ego. I don't really buy that theory, since I don't see Oberon having all that much interest in... interfering with our affairs. Plus, it would dramatically be too much.

I'm starting a new job as a high school teacher this fall, and my new office is next to the library. Another teacher suggested that I get a poster or something that would make the space mine. There are a bunch of the celebrity reading posters from the American Library Association in the library (click my name for an example of what I'm talking about). I have a vague memory of there being a Goliath reading poster years and years ago. I thought it would be cool to try to find one of those on ebay and hang it in my office, but I can't even find evidence that such a thing existed. No pictures online or anything. Does anyone remember this/know what I'm talking about? If it exists I'll keep an eye out for one, but I may have imagined it.

Does anyone know what number Mace Malone was in the Illuminati before he died.
Vicky82 - [Vickyfanofwwe at aol dot com]

I don't know if this theory has been brought up, but I was thinking about it this morning.

Oberon spent his time with the humans as well as his children. We know how some of them spent their time, but we don't know how Oberon spent his time.

Could he be #1 in the Illuminati? Of course, the other members may not know him as Oberon, but by another name. Or could Oberon's alter ego be Duval? Or would Oberon consider it an insult to be connected to such an organization?

I really like the King Arthur theory that was proposed early in the CR, but I figured I'd throw another theory out there just for fun.

I think it makes a lot more sense to show his first adventure before returning him home. It wouldn't be possible, obviously, to convey the ENTIRE forty years, but I think it would be far more effective than simply having him disappear and reappear in five minutes.

Humans are such easy prey for a gargoyle!

JURGAN> As Greg described it back in 2004, we'd see Brooklyn's first timedance... it would be the Mary/Finella/Constantine story... which their one panel appearance in #5 serves as a nice foreshadowing for.
Greg Bishansky - [<---- The 12th Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]
"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics, and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Michael Straczynski

I'm betting Brooklyn Timedances in #10-12. It has to be covered sometime in the main comicbook- it can't just be in Timedancer, or readers who don't pick that up would be lost as to why Brooklyn was older and who these new characters were. I'm more wondering how what seems to be a fairly simple story will take up three issues. Brooklyn leaves, and then comes back. It could be done in a single issue, but if I'm not mistaken, we already have confirmation that there won't be any singles but 6 until Clan-Building is done, and I feel Brooklyn's family must appear in Clan-Building. So what will the story be? There are two options I can see: Brooklyn disappears and reappears at the end of issue 10 (would be a great cliff-hanger) while the clan is dealing with a normal villain in the present day. Then they fight Villain X while getting used to the new members. That seems a little bulky, but it might be more interesting to me than the alternative, which is that most of the three-issue arc is Brooklyn's first Timedancing adventure. The advantage of the latter approach is that it's a back-door pilot for the spin-off, possibly generating early interest.
Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

******POSSIBLE SPOILERS********
I don't want to speculate too much, but the way I see it, each Issue is a chapter, each group of chapters (#3, 4, and 5 for instance) is a story, and the 12 stories make up the story arc. Some themes are only carried over in single chapters (like the mask theme in "Masque"), but it seems most may be carried through the entire story arc. I think Brooklyn's tale is one of these. He has had so many "poor Brooklyn" moments already, I feel to end this story arc without some sort of closure is anti-climatic. Now, the most obvious closure to this arc is Timedancer, and it fits in nicely with the Clan-Building theme, but we'll have to wait and see where Greg takes us. One thing the comics have shown is that Greg has managed to surprise us despite all our knowledge, revelations, guesses and speculation.

Tony> Yeah, it does. It ends at #12.

The title 'Clan Building' makes me still have hope that we'll see Brooklyn get taken by the Phoenix Gate and return with Katana and the kids before #12. Just because there will probably be a Timedancer spin-off doesn't mean we won't see some semblance of it in the comic.

I've got the two trades too. I always thought it a pity that the comic book series ended just on the edge of what could have made a good story: an encounter between Beast and Mr. Sinister.

One of the best parts was in #1, a prequel to the cartoon which dealt with how Professor Xavier and Magneto were originally friends but became adversaries because of their mutually exclusive philosophies about what was the right course for mutants to take. In it, Magneto describes Xavier as "suffering from a chronic case of idealism". That's definitely the way I can picture him looking upon Xavier's dreams of peace between humans and mutants.

Eileen> Since it appears that you have internet, I would suggest using Google Maps. I typed in "Edinburgh, UK comics" and found Forbidden Planet, as well as some other places including 'Dead Head' and 'Elvis Shakespeare Ltd'. Then I searched for "Edinburgh, UK comic books" and found different places like 'The Canons Gait', 'Backtracks Music' and 'Mad Hatman Discos'.

When you search, their numbers are listed as well, so I would call before venturing out. Then if all else fails, you may need to order off of SLG's website or Amazon.com (Unfortunately it appears that www.amazon.co.uk has no Gargoyle comics. :( )

Eileen, this might be a good opportunity for you to spread the word in the UK. =)

One observation I've noticed about these "future" dates Greg has been revealing. Alone- A Demona/Goliath tribute, focusing mainly on Demona as she survives from Awakening I/City of Stone I to Awakening V. It's to "Never Alone" by Barlow Girls, a slightly different take on the song. I don't think I like it, but I put too much time into it to not share, and I like the idea. The song would normally be too sappy for me to work with, but I accidentally got it stuck in my head and there was no turning back.

Now that I've got this finished and out of my head, I can start working on my legitimate Demona tribute.

Crispin Freeman is a voice actor, a friend of CrzyDemona, and does a spot-on impression of Bill Faggerbakke. He was at Gathering 2001 and 2006. We had a lot of other guests at 2006 who weren't involved with "Gargoyles", too.

Matt: Crispin Freeman has no connection to Gargoyles- I can't quite remember how he said he got involved in the fandom. Ironically, though, he was on of the biggest reasons I went to G2006- I've been a fan of his ever since Captain Tylor, and got him to autograph my boxset at the Mug-a-Guest.

And go figure about the sigs. Yami posts after me, changes the username and avatar, but keeps the sig I was using. Now she gets credit for it! The injustice of it all!... of course, as you say, a lot of people have used it. What's odd is that, if not for the Radio Play, most people probably wouldn't have thought that line was anything special. Thom really knew how to sell it.

On the subject of sigs, Greg, yours is interesting, but I think I'll answer it with an Asimov quote, from his favorite short story that he wrote, "The Last Question."

Jurgan
"'You're thinking we'll switch to another sun when ours is done, aren't you?' 'I'm not thinking that.' 'Sure you are. You're weak on logic, that's the trouble with you. You're like the guy in the story who was caught in a sudden shower and who ran to a grove of trees and got under one. He wasn't worried, you see, because he figured when one tree got wet through he would just get under another one.' 'I get it,' said Adell. 'Don't shout. When the sun is done, the other stars will be gone, too.'" -Isaac Asimov, "The Last Question"

He appeared in #5 as well. I'm guessing Greg watched his reviews before, though I could be wrong.

Happy birthday, Purplegoldfish!

PHIL - I think that it's intended as symbolic, to represent Matrix's past "bad guy" actions from "Walkabout". I doubt that it's intended as something that literally exists in the Gargoyles Universe.

Greg Weisman has mentioned, of course, having his own plans for a "Goliath on trial" episode (in which the real issue was just giving Goliath a trial, since Margot and a lot of the other New Yorkers look upon the gargoyles as savage beasts rather than rational beings). I've sometimes wondered what Goliath would have been on trial for. The events in "Hunter's Moon" such as the fight at St. Damien's Cathedral (which got enough attention to have a big crowd, the media, and the police there), or a "post-Journey" event? Fortunately, if the comic book lasts long enough, we'll eventually find out.

It's silly. It's a silly movie. There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?- George Lucas on Spider-Man 3

Happy birthday, Purplegoldfish!

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The 12th Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]
"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics, and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe, and Lao-Tzu, and Einstein, and Morobuto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanes... [and] all of this... all of this... was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars." - J. Michael Straczynski
