I actually had no clue what it stood for either and looked it up with Google to figure it out, but I assumed I was the only one who was confused, so I didn't bother writing out the whole name.

As previous posts and Wikipedia indicate, it's a cartoon that ran on ABC Family and Toon Disney and now runs on Disney XD. It's about a boy named Chiro and his robot monkeys who are defenders of a distant planet. As the name suggests, it's very anime influenced, though the style kind of leans in the direction of something like "Powerpuff Girls." I've only caught a little of it here and there but it seemed pretty entertaining. And Greg wrote a couple of episodes.

Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

Those who don't know Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go is kinda like Power Rangers or Voltron from what I've seen of it. But it's got more of an ongoing plot. Aside from the main character, the heroes are of course robot monkeys. They also have a giant robot they use. It's got a anime look to it and the name is probably intended as a parody of those types of shows.

It's not bad, but I haven't gotten to see much of it. Alot of the Jetix stuff seems fairly unknown compaired to stuff you'd see on say Cartoon Network. For instance, I never see people talk about Pucca on cartoon forums either.

Many thanks to Demonskye, Dan, Spen, Battle Beast, Wingless and everyone that sent me private and personal well-wishes for myself and my sister, Patricia for our 40th birthday. We and the family had a blast, and will be returning home soon. I've posted some details of the trip over on my DeviantArt page.

Have a happy easter, kids. Stay Crispy!

Todd: according to my Google search-it stands for "Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!" I didn't know what the hell it meant either-and frankley I still don't-other than it appears to be a JETIX ABC family/Toon Disney show of some sort. *scratches head in bewilderment*

Forgive my ignorance, please, but what *is* SRMTHFG? It's confusing when all that you see is an abbreviation.

(Pardon the double post)

Anonymous> As other Comment Room regulars have already noted, this probably isn't the best place to ask, since Greg Weisman only worked on the show as the writer of a couple of episodes and the rest of us don't have any information that you couldn't find by doing a search of the internet. And, again as other people have pointed out, this is a "Gargoyles" forum first and foremost, so if you make posts with no reference to a specific show or a specific ongoing conversation, we're going to assume that you're talking about "Gargoyles."

In the interests of being friendly and the hope that you'll stick around and maybe get interested in "Gargoyles" if you aren't already, I checked Wikipedia to see what the deal was. As you said, season four of SRMTHFG ended on a cliffhanger. As of now, Disney doesn't appear to have renewed the series for a fifth season. That's what we know. Does this mean the show is over? I don't think it had to. It's apparently part of the Disney XD lineup so maybe what's happening is that Disney is waiting to see how the show does on their revamped channel before deciding whether to bring it back for another season. That's pretty much what's happening with "Spectacular Spider-Man," which we do know more about because - as Antiyonder said - Greg Weisman is heavily involved in it. If the first season and the new second of SS-M do well on Disney XD, they'll order a third. The problem with this approach is that the cast and crew aren't always ready to go when the network finally makes up its mind. Once a season is finished, if a new season hasn't been given the go-ahead, everyone kind of has to assume that it's not going to happen and start looking for work elsewhere. So if Disney does decide that they want a fifth season of SRMTHFG, it's anyone's guess whether or not all the cast and crew will be available to come back. If they aren't, it doesn't necessarily mean they can't do the new season. But it may end looking or sounding very different from what came before.

Vinnie> Quite a while back, some of us got e-mails supposedly from another Comment Room member requesting money. This was a long time ago, so I don't know if it's connected at all, but it is something that's happened to other people before.

I would consider changing your e-mail password and seeing if there's anything else you can do to keep whoever or whatever it is that got a hold of your e-mail from doing so again.

Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

No I didn't but it sounds disturbing.
Vinnie - [tpeano29 at hotmail dot com]

Anonymous> Besides which, Greg only wrote an episode or two of SRMTHFG, so he really isn't the person to ask about renewals.

The shows in which he's been heavily involved in:
- Gargoyles (obviously)
- W.I.T.C.H. (Second half of the series anyway)
- The Spectacular Spider-Man

Other than these particular shows, I wouldn't expect him to have an answer about any other shows in which he did a few writing assignments for.

@ Ozzie: *MINOR Wolverine Spoilers*

Don't forget that this is just a in-progress-version. From all I've heard, this might as well be pasted together from cuts that did not make the final version. XD Anyhow, Seeing FOX reaction, it seems to be the actual pre-cut. Nothing to watch anyways. Personally, I refuse to watch a film that is not done.
Apart from that, although I like Deadpool, I do not care "that much" for "what they did to him". True, from what I have heard (although I doubt it), this sounds terrible, but he really just seems to be one of the minor characters here - they might pick him up for his own film.
What I predict to be worse is actually Gambit. Fro what I've read, he seems to be a pale and uninterresting character, only added to the mix 'cause he's got a big fanbase. If this is actually the case, and he is butchered Schumacher-Bane-style, then may Magneto be with us... :(

But I for my part wil wait and see. It is good that the reviews lowered my expectations, probably the film will be quite decent this way. ;)

I have no intention of seeing Wolverine after hearing what they did to Deadpool which was my only incentive to see it. Fox is really getting up in arms about it and you wouldn't wanna end up in court over downloading a movie.

I've got no desire to install myself as the CR's peacemaker, but I've got even less desire to see another big fight go down in here. So it would be really nice for everyone to chill. Roy has various contractual and keeping-his-job obligations which prevent him from discussing stuff he's working on. He may well not be following the various blogs to see what news has been officially revealed and what hasn't.

TF:RotF has finished live-action shooting, but is still in production and the actors working on it would probably be free to start in on new projects, for better or worse. Not worth arguing over.

Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

Anonymouse> Listen kid, read all the official "blogs" you want. Go back and read your own ignorant post; "RotF is done." I'm telling you it's not. Live action shooting, yes. The rest, no. Don't believe me? Come down to LA and you can question Bay all you want.

Now pour yourself a bowl of f**k and go back to jerking off to the latest Fangeek Transformers rumours.

Roy

You know, your bigwig "I work there, but can't say a thing, you are spreading romours" would sound better if the horse (Bay's official blog) hadn't already said that they are done shooting (which, as far as Shia's availability is concerned, was the relevant information).

Lets hope the rest of post-production will get used to avoid another Brawl/Devestator.

Anonymouse

I believe as long as I'm employed by a certain studio, any movie we work on falls under the NDA. That and it's just respect for the directors and other artists I work with; I don't go around spilling details or starting rumors that could potentially damage any project.

Fan opinion and speculation about upcoming projects is fun, but when people go around stating them like fact, it pisses me off to no end.

Roy

@ Roy and Demon: Actually, and this might be truly a bit arrogant, but...

I do not care for Bay's Transformers. If you work on it and make it a good looking feauture Roy, I'm truly happy for you, cause thechnically, working on such a big project is quite awesome.

What I care for is that Shia LeBeouff WON'T play Yorrick Brown in the upcomming Y-Films.

I mean, seriously, the guy is not an actor, he's a model. He's like this guy who played James Bond for 1 film after Connery left.

The only thing worse would be if either Bay or Brett Rattner would try to direct Y. The only thing Bay ever did I could sit through was THE ISLAND, and that was for the great actors and a hijacked PK Dick story.

Brook
I agree with Rebel on EVERYTHING she says!!

Roy> Understood, sir. Does this end after the movie comes out, or are the terms of the NDA part of the NDA?

Temptation> I think Demona's attempt to win Brooklyn over to her cause was as much a crime of opportunity as anything. Brooklyn was simply the first gargoyle to go off on his own and get into trouble. It's still not clear whether Demona knows about Lex and Goliath's encounter with the Pack because Xanatos told her about it (and she changes the subject when Brooklyn brings it up to avoid revealing that she is still allied with Xanatos) or because she was secretly following the gargoyles whenever they left the castle (and changed the subject to avoid revealing that she saw Lex and Goliath being hunted by the Pack and did nothing to help them.) I wouldn't be too surprised if she was keeping tabs on the clan's activities one way or another and was just waiting for one of them to break from the group and have a negative encounter with the local humans. Goliath would be out. Much as she may want him on her side, in her mind, he's proven that he's "beyond help." She might consider Hudson, but maybe she figures he's too old to be useful (we've seen how much value she puts on at least physical youth) or too set in his ways to be convinced to go against his leader. Bronx...not to insult his intelligence, but I don't think her arguments would mean much to him. So that leaves the Trio. She couldn't approach Lex because Goliath was with him. She might have seen the Trio go out to work on the motorcycle, but approaching all three of them at once would have been much more risky. They would have bee far more likely to band together and support each other in the view that Goliath's ideas are correct and Demona is not someone to be trusted. Much better to get one of them alone, preferably in the aftermath of a situation that would leave them much more willing to listen to what she wanted to say.

Did Demona target Brooklyn specifically? Maybe. But I'm not convinced that she wouldn't have tried to win over Lex or Broadway if the opportunity had presented itself. Both of them have aspects of their personalities which would make them succeptable to her view of humanity. Lex is a little more quick to anger than his brothers and more fixated on the idea of vengeance. After his encounter with the Pack, he might have been a lot more capable of turning his anger on humanity in general. Broadway's sensitivity could have made Demona's demonstration of how cruelly humans treat members of their own kind particularly effective. And all that aside, we really don't know how well Demona knew the Trio either in tenth century Scotland or modern day Manhattan. Maybe she knew that Brooklyn had more potential to lead and therefore stand up to Goliath or go against him and would be more easily tempted by a little female attention. (While I'm not entire;y sold on the idea that they did what Christine Morgan suggests, I can believe that Demona wasn't above touching him a little more than usual to help her case.) But maybe she didn't and Brooklyn just got lucky, or unlucky, depending on how you look at it.

Brook> Y: The Last Man is very good. I finished the entire series some time ago. It is in the works as a trilogy movie. The first one is supposed to take issues 1-14. Considering there are 60 issues, 1-14 seems small but Im sure they will work it out. Shia LeBouf is supposed to play Yorick, not sure who the rest of the cast will be.

I have since let many others borrow my copies and have NEVER heard anyone say they didnt like it.

Everyone else> In case anyone is interested in the book, all the info Brook provided takes place within the first 3 issues, so not much was spoiled. The proposing to the girlfriend this takes place in the opening pages of issue one.

I was going to say something about gargoyle ... "naming" conventions, but I completely forgot it. :|

Y: the Last Man: Don't forget Ampersand, the monkey! :) He's so silly.

Temptation: I think that Demona probably targeted Brooklyn's independent streak. If she'd tried connecting with one of the other two of the trio, they probably would have had the desire to immediately alert the clan, whereas Brooklyn is something more of a loner. It seems. Maybe.

Samuel - [AnglOfHellO at AOL dot com]

Lexington had already had his trust betrayed at that point, making him too vulnerable. And Broadway's heart is too big. I think Brooklyn was a deliberate target.

"I can face her. I just can't beat her." -Hudson ("Long Way to Morning")

I just want to point a HUGE BTW-thing out that some people in here might be interrested in:

Ive just started with a comic entitled Y: THE LAST MAN, in which every living mammal on earth dies in the matter of seconds, die to unknown causes - except of lucky/unlucky Yorrick, who's just propposed marriage to his girlfriend via phone (she is in Australia).

The antagonist (so far) is actually the red-headded leader of a violent group, called the "daufhters of the Amazons", who is out to rid the world of its last "opressor". If that DOES sound like a mix of the Quarrymen and Demona to you, you just might be damn right.

Anyways, this is absolutely witty, dark and enjoyable. I could totally see Greg helming a series based on it, since it feautures many of his trademark humor and "twistedness".

Brook
I agree with Rebel on EVERYTHING she says!!

I got an answer to my question about why no one calls Hudson "father" and he never calls any of his clanmates "son":

"Their relationships are MORE specific than that. When you have a LOT of fathers (back in the day), many different varieties of relationships develop in addition to the paternal-filial. That doesn't mean they don't consider Hudson a rookery father, but it's not how they define him. "

My understanding is that this doesn't mean that the rest of the clan is not particularly close to Hudson, especially now. But for a gargoyle raised as a child of the whole clan, calling someone "father" might have indicated a rather generic relationship with that individual, as opposed to the very particular and usually warm relationship it generally implies in human culture. Goliath had several fathers and he could call each and every one of them "father" without implying any personal relationship between them beyond that gargoyle having fathered an egg in Goliath's generation. He calls Hudson things like "old friend" and "my mentor" because those do indicate a very particular personal relationship he has with the older gargoyle.

Of course, this is different for Angela, partly because she's only developed any kind of relationship with two of her rookery parents - who happen to be her two biological parents - so far and partly because she was raised by humans and probably caught to consider "father" to be a much more affectionate term than a gargoyle might think it. Plus, Goliath was initially so stubborn about accepting the terms "father" and "daughter" as applied to himself and Angela that it probably meant a lot more to her when he finally did.

Sony is re-releasing the first Spectacular Spider-Man DVD solely to strip 'Attack of the Lizard' from the title: http://tvshowsondvd.com/n/11639

This seems like really bizarre behavior to me. They should focus their money and attention on a solid season 1 DVD and Blu-ray boxset rather than trying to correct the unfortunate first releases.

Nobody seems to see the biggest pro for Demona to choose Brooklyn: his vast understanding what IS going on.

I loved that scene where Demona "shows him around town", and his expressions when they come across the murder scene.

I think Brooklyn is the only one in the clan who understands the nature of society in that episode - especially when he finds out that Demona, again just in her own agenda, betrayed his trust.

Brook
I agree with Rebel on EVERYTHING she says!!

We learn later that Brooklyn pursues women and leadership and there could be a repressed jealousy of Goliath. Demona probably sensed all that back at Wyvern and knew she could play those weaknesses.
Landon Thomas - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter feed]

Rebel? My gut instinct tells me she specifically targeted Brooklyn. She convinced him how humans could not be trusted, essentially playing on his weakness of loneliness and his gullibility.

Lex and Broadway? It would've taken her more work to sway them. Brooklyn was just too easy a target.

KingCobra_582 - [KingCobra582 at gmail dot com]

Greg may have answered this at some point or another, but in Temptation, did Demona specifically choose Brooklyn to talk to and wait for the right time to talk to him, or would she have targeted whichever member of the Trio went joyriding first?

DEMONSKRYE - Thanks; I'm relieved that it *was* a Spider-Man artifact.

I've already begun deleting questions about "Will such-and-such a literary/legendary element appear in Gargoyles?" in any case. I recall one from about a week ago about whether characters from "Jane Eyre" or "Heart of Darkness" would appear in "Gargoyles"; I deleted that one at once. (The question *did* remind me of compare-and-contrasts that I've occasionally seen of the Jane Eyre/Rochester/Bertha triangle to the Elisa/Goliath/Demona triangle, though.)

Todd Jensen

Pardon the double post, but if anyone was curious about the Tablet of Time, which seems to have appeared only in the 90s FOX Spider-Man cartoon, there's a bit more info on it here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tablet_of_Time#Neogenic_Nightmare.2C_Chapter_XI:_Tablet_of_Time

So you're fine, Todd. Sorry to have made you worry needlessly.

Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

Rebel> As you said, it's Todd, Greg, and Gore's call as to what exactly this means, but I tend to think the "idea masquerading as a question" rule is interpreted pretty broadly. In terms of people just having a friendly conversation, me saying "You should put this character in the thing you're working on" and me saying "Do you have any plans to use this character in that thing you're working on?" are very different, but in the legal sense, they're not all that different. Keep in mind that the purpose of most of the rules on "Ask Greg" is to protect Greg from potential legal troubles stemming from people claiming "I had an idea which I mentioned to Greg Weisman, then he went ahead and used it and didn't pay me or credit me." Now it's possible that the fact that this person said something like "Did you have any plans for Santa Claus in "Gargoyles"?" rather than "You should put Santa Claus in "Gargoyles" and he should be a, b, c, etc" could hurt the legal case, but a crafty lawyer could potentially argue that Greg never actually wrote anything about Santa Claus being in "Gargoyles" prior to this person asking if that was the case. (Greg has already said that Santa Claus exists in the Gargoyles Universe, so this is just an example.) Even if the case were ultimately decided in Greg's favor or thrown out or what have you, it could still be a big legal headache and take a ridiculously long time. So my understanding is that any question that asks whether or not a particular character appears in the Gargoyles Universe is an idea masquerading as a question, whether it's intended innocently or not.

I've since been told that the Tablet of Time is an artifact from the world of Spider-Man, so it's probably a moot point anyways. I'm guessing Greg is a little more lax about questions regarding SS-M because that show is based on existing material and it would be nearly impossible to argue in court that someone else had the idea of including a storyline that Stan Lee or another Spidey scribe originally penned in the new show before Greg did and should therefore get credit. So questions about whether Carnage, Toxin, the Amazing Bag Man, the Spider-Car, or what have you will appear on SS-M go through. But I'm guessing an actual original idea that never appeared in the comics ("Will Peter and Gwen get married and move to California and have six kids?") wouldn't.

Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

Sorry about the Tablet of Time question. I assumed when I cleared it that it was a "Spectacular Spider-Man" question; an artifact called the "Tablet of Time" might have shown up in a Marvel Comics story for all that I knew, since I'm not an expert on the comics. It hadn't occurred to me that it might be a "Gargoyles"-related question about an artifact that hadn't been mentioned in "Gargoyles" yet (or which might be an imperfect memory confusing the Phoenix Gate with the Medici Tablet from "Hunter's Moon"). I hope I haven't made a goof.

MATT - I've seen a few comic trade paperbacks (including a couple of Marvel ones) at Left Bank Books in the science fiction section (as well as the graphic novel adaptations that I mentioned some weeks ago of "Macbeth", "Henry V", and "A Christmas Carol"). I've never seen any conventional comic books there, though.

I've bought other books besides "Gargoyles" and "Bad Guys" at Starclipper Comics before. Among them were the three currently-published graphic novels in the "Age of Bronze" series, which I bought the same day that I bought Gargoyles #7. ("Age of Bronze" is a graphic novel retelling of the Trojan War legend, which I think worth reading. It's extremely well-researched. In particular, the author did a lot of homework on the clothing, architecture, armor and weapons, etc. of Greece and Asia Minor during the Mycenean Age, pointing out that the familiar classical Greece style we see depicted in adaptations of Greek myths came along centuries after the "mythological age", so that it's like doing a story about the Norman Conquest but dressing everyone in the fashions of World War II. It goes into a lot of detail about the tale of Troy - so much detail that by the end of Book Three, the war hasn't even fully begun yet; what we've seen are the opening events - Paris running off with Helen, the Greeks gathering to launch a retaliatory strike against Troy, and the mishaps they undergo along the way, such as getting lost at sea, landing in the wrong part of Asia Minor which they mistake for Troy, then upon discovering their mistake after some fighting, saying to the distinctly unamused local ruler, "Oops, sorry, we thought you were someone else!" Not to mention an extremely eclectic range - while the framework comes from the early Greek accounts like Homer's, we even get the Troilus and Cressida story that the medieval and Renaissance versions of the legend, such as Chaucer and Shakespeare, added in. I highly recommend this series.)

Todd Jensen

Yes, but "You should put Prospero in Gargoyles" and "Do you have any plans for Prospero in Gargoyles?" are two entirely different things. One is a blatant suggestion, the other is merely a question. I only consider something to be a question-masquerading-as-an-idea when it's something fairly specific and it's clear that the person is trying to put an idea in Greg's head, such as the "Will Demona try to assassinate Hitler during WWII?" example from the guidelines section.
Rebel

Rebel> Since I don't happen to share Brook's signature, I disagree. Unless the Tablet of Time is something already in "Gargoyles" that I don't remember, it is enough of an original idea that it should be rejected as a question. If you look at the introduction to Ask Greg, right before the guidelines is an example of why questions about whether certain characters and concepts will be included in "Gargoyles," specifically a fan suggesting that Greg should put Prospero from "The Tempest" into "Gargoyles," Greg responded that he intended to, and the fan giving Greg the "You just stole my idea" look. Turn the statement into a question and it becomes "Did you have any plans for Prospero from "The Tempest" in "Gargoyles"? So I figure it counts as an idea masquerading as a question. Dracula might be OK, since he's actually been mentioned on the show before, but I'd personally be hesitant to ask.

Landon> It could be either or a little from column A and a little from column B. Bennet is working with Burton right now as they both rock the house on "TransFormers Animated" (though I don't know whether the recording sessions are ensemble style or not) and I would not be at all surprised to learn that they've collaborated before. So maybe he's remembering a case where he worked with Burton and remembering his time on "Gargoyles" and maybe even a particular character and mistakenly merging the two. Like I said, it's possible that he's thinking of another voice actor who kind of looks or sounds like Burton or that he's remembering working with Burton on a show or episode of a show that was kind of similar to "Gargoyles." But my guess is that it's somewhere in between.

Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

Demonskrye - Ah, your Lexington theory makes sense. As for the Corey Burton thing, I wasn't saying Bennett has a bad memory. Burton is pretty A-list; I'm sure Bennett knows who he is. I'm just curious who Bennett was referring to since he brought it up among all the Gargoyles voice actors he works with. Did he mean a different voice actor who was on Gargoyles or a different collaboration with Burton?
Landon Thomas - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter feed]

Well it's ultimately Todd's call, but I don't think that's too close to an idea...that's similar to asking something like, "Will Dracula appear in Gargoyles?". Personally, I wouldn't consider the question about the tablet or my Dracula example to be ideas.

Something like, "Will Demona try to steal the tablet of time?" or "Will Brooklyn defeat Dracula during his Timedancing adventures?" could be considered ideas because they are too specific, but simply asking if there are plans for these things seems fine to me.

Rebel

Just something that I noticed while browsing the Unanswered Questions:

"Okay, so, I'm not sure if this'll be approved or not but:
Do you have any plans for anything revolving around the Tablet of Time?
Thanks! "

Is this Spidey related or a potential idea for "Gargoyles"? Because if it's the latter, it sounds awfully close to an idea.

Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

Landon> I'm sure it was just a matter of the two sections being written at different times and the editor just glazing over a little an noting that Lexington is the only gargoyle Jeff mentions by name while neglecting to realize that he's credited to Thom Adcox. Anyway, it's already in the comments (you or someone else?), so I'm pretty sure they'll correct that at least.

Mr. Bennett's IMDB entry includes roughly 300 roles he's played. (The exact number is hard to figure between people listing the VHS tapes and The Goliath Chronicles separately and Jeff playing multiple characters in various projects. So while I'm sure he has fond memories of his time working on "Gargoyles" and many other good shows, it's understandable that he might not have the clearest memories of everything and sometimes get the recording sessions from one show confused with another. He's been on shows with Corey Burton, but I don't know if he was thinking of an actor who looks like Burton, a character that sounded like Burton, or neither. Maybe Coldstone? Iago? Gabriel?

Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

Interesting thing I thought I'd mention. My local comic store owner never saw Gargoyles, cause his was busy with college when it originally aired. So I let him borrow the first season. He's been watching it in the TV he has in the store, so maybe he'll have some customers come in who'll be like "Hey I remember this show!"

Hey, I had another idea for spreading the word about the new trades while I was sitting in class.

What if we had little cards and placed them inside any Clan-Building Volume One we see sitting on shelves? Just a little slip of paper wedged into the pages saying: 'If you want to read more Gargoyle adventures, look for Clan-Building Vol 2 to be released in July and a spinoff, Bad Guys, coming out August!'

Not only in the Clan-Building already released! We could do similar cards in other trades like Fables, Buffy, and any others who might attract fans that could enjoy Gargoyles. These would say 'If you liked this book, you should check out Gargoyles! Clan-Building Volume One is already out and Volume Two...' You get my drift.

Ive heard this done with other things in the past (most memorable was little cards in Blockbuster sci-fi movies telling the watcher to check out Firefly and Serenity). Sure, the slips of paper may fall out or get tossed out without a second look but maybe it would catch someone's eye and they think 'Someone went to the trouble to tell me about another trade? Maybe its worth checking out' and wouldnt that be worth it?

Thoughts?

Newsarama talks with Jeff Bennett about his new Joker role: http://www.newsarama.com/tv/09-407-animated-shorts-joker.html

Interesting quotes:

-----
"That's funny because I can't remember what I did two weeks ago. Thank god my resume is listed somewhere. For instance, I don't remember a lot of the Gargoyles stuff. Then some fan comes up with a little reminder and it call comes back to me."

By 1996, he would be one of the truly hot voiceover actors, thanks in large part to his role as Lexington on Disney's Gargoyles.
...
"The three young gargoyles were Bill Fagerbakke, Tommy Adcox and myself. Tom was Lexington. Corey Burton was also a Gargoyle, just not a main one. Bill is now Patrick on Spongebob and all of us got together again for Transformers, which sadly is not going to happen anymore. Then again, I was golfing with Frank Welker last Friday and he was Freddie on Scooby Doo 40 years ago, and he's still doing it. I won't be surprised if I do Johnny Bravo again when I'm 84. You never know."
-----

How could they credit him as Lexington when he says in the same interview "Tom was Lexington"? Not to mention they spelled Thom Adcox's name wrong. Someone's not paying attention.

Corey Burton was never in Gargoyles, so I wonder who he was thinking of.

What you people could do is design Flyers with Photoshop, and hand those out, or print them as stickers and stick them in a LEGAL place.

I know artists who promoted their work via stickers and flyers, and a GARGOYLES-Flyer isn't something you see all day.
It raises awareness, carries all the infos and is cheap to manufacture.

Posters > Good point, Demonskrye. Very good point.

Im not an artist; I just mess around with Paint and other such programs. I could probably put something together just for fun but it wouldnt look all that professional. Perhaps one of the wonderful artists from the Monthly Gargoyles Contest website would make a fan poster. Or any fan who knows the buiness end of a pencil could do the honors. Hmm...

Posters> I am going to assume until we hear otherwise that there isn't going to be a poster for Volume 2 or Bad Guys. I don't doubt that Dan Vado is going to do what he can to promote the trades, but I don't feel comfortable assuming that the limited resources SLG has now are even as much as the resources they had when the first issue or the first trade came out. Besides, if a couple of fans make some posters for people to print up and try to get their local comic shops to put up and SLG makes their own poster, is there really any harm done? Some fans spent time and energy making unofficial "Gargoyles" posters which certainly aren't rendered useless by the presence of an official one. However, if no one makes fan-made posters because they think maybe SLG will put out an official poster and they don't, then we've got no posters.
Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

Posters > Just searched around on eBay. There are a few posters about the TV show and two promos for Clan-Building volume one. So there was a promo poster for the first trade. Does that mean there's a semi-good chance there would be one for volume two? If not, Ill just go to town with Paint ^_^

Im glad for this news. Now we know where we stand and we have some more secure publishing dates.

My local comic book store is very friendly. They know me because I am big into Mercy Thompson and am eager to my hands on those comics. So yeah, as soon as May rolls around, when I stroll in to pick up my Mercy comic, Ill be asking about Gargoyles. I know theyve had it because I picked up the last Bad Guys comic at their store all those months ago. Hopefully, theyll already have plans to be ordering the trades. If not, Ill do my best to convince them. If they cant, Ill hit up my local Borders; they always have at least one Clan-Building Vol 1 sitting on the shelf.

There's another comic book store in my town as well but I dont visit them all that much because I am loyal to the first one. Still, Ill stop by there and encourage them to get Gargoyles as well, since I know they usually get more traffic than the store I perfer. Heck, if I got money to spare, Ill order a trade from both stores and then give/sell my extra copy away. I wouldnt mind.

Poster > Demonskrye mentioned putting up a poster to support the new releases. I am all for that idea. Do you think there's a chance of SLG making a poster or should we fans take it into our own hands? Like I said, my local comic store is really nice; I bet they would love to have a poster to place on their wall. Their walls are always covered in posters.

Trades Update> It's good to know that the trades are both on track for a summer release. I'm really looking forward to getting to read them.

I of course agree with Greg. We should know by now that there are no guarantees here and if fans don't make an effort to support new "Gargoyles" material, we may very well not see any more of it. Even if SLG doesn't end up getting the license to do new graphic novels, it's going to be much easier to convince another publisher to give "Gargoyles" a shot if the trades sell well and much harder to do so if they don't.

I do want to add a little to the "Harass Your Retailers" advice. As you're probably all aware, the bad global economy is having a lot of consequences, including people spending less money on things like comics. My husband was just at our local comic book store talking with the owner, who we're friendly with. While business hasn't been abysmal for him, he has been making some changes in what he orders and how much. Previously, he could take some chances, buying a few shelf copies of comics that may or may not sell to walk-in customers or regulars looking for something new and different. Now he's ordering with the intention to sell out. He's going with the sure things in numbers he knows he can sell rather than taking chances on extra copies and smaller titles. I don't know if this is what's happening with comic shops across the board, but if it is, you are unlikely to see any copies of the trades on the shelves unless you ask.

Your job is NOT to ensure that there are lots of copies of the trades on the shelves. I know it seems like a good idea, but it could end up being counterproductive. Assuming you can convince stores to carry more copies of the trades than you're going to buy, if they end up with 20 copies of each of "Clan Building Volume 2" that aren't selling, it's going to greatly reduce the chances that they'll order copies of "Bad Guys" or any future "Gargoyles" comics that may come along. Your job is to get a store to order as many copies as you intend to buy. Next month, go to your local comic shop and ask if they have the latest issue of Previews (the May issue, featuring comics and merchandise coming out in July). If they have it, tell them you want a copy (or more) of "Gargoyles: Clan Building Volume 2." Previews is arranged first by type of product (comics, toys, statues, etc) and then by publisher. I haven't flipped through a Previews in a while, but I believe some of the bigger publishers, like Marvel and DC, get listed first, then the smaller publisher are listed alphabetically. Slave Labor may be listed under "Amaze Ink/Slave Labor Graphics." ("Amaze Ink" is or was SLG's all ages imprint and since it starts with "A," it allows them to be listed closer to the front of the comics section of Previews.) So if the employee can't find the listing, check there. You may be asked to do something like leave your contact information, start a subscription box, pay for a pre-order, or something else. Keep in mind that this is usually just to ensure that you actually intend to buy what you've ordered. If you ask the shop to order the trade and then later decide that you didn't really want it or buy it somewhere else or just don't show up when it comes in, they're the ones who are out the money it cost to order the book until they can find someone else to buy it. Just make sure you get some kind of receipt if you pay for any kind of pre-order. If you're not comfortable with their terms for ordering the trades for you, try a different store. If you can't find a comic shop to order it for you, try your local bookstore. (I have no idea how you go about ordering a comics trade from a regular bookstore. It may vary from store to store, so ask.) If no one will order the book for you, check out your online options.

So what can you do? Spread the word locally. The more people who come in to a comic shop asking about "Gargoyles", the more likely it is that the shop will think it may be worth ordering a couple of shelf copies. A good relationship with your local comic shop can't hurt either. If you have the time, go in a couple of times before the comic actually comes out. If it's July, ask if the trade is out yet. Browse around. Be friendly if the employees seem friendly. Buy something, if you can afford it and something catches your interest. Just off the top of my head, the Boom! Pixar comics are pretty good and the "Muppet Show" comic is excellent, "Castle Waiting" is sure to appeal to fans of classic fairy tales, and Joss Whedon is writing comic book continuations of "Buffy" and "Angel." As with pretty much any business, comic shop employees are much more likely to listen to you if you're becoming a regular customer than if they think you're going to buy one or two book and never come in again. Ask if you can put up a poster to advertise the trades. If you have the extra cash and a really great relationship with your local comic shop, you can do what a friend of mine did with some trades he wanted to see one the shelves: offer to buy the copies the store doesn't sell after a certain period of time in exchange for the store ordering a set amount of shelf copies. As usual, don't spend money you don't have or can't afford to, but do keep in time that money talks and if you have it to spend, it can go a long way to helping "Gargoyles" survive.

An a "spread the word" note, everytime I go to Borders and see the Clan Buildin novel in the graphic novel section, I pull it out, and place it with the cover facing outward for all to see. I have done this twice and the book was gone upon my next vist. This was when I would visit weekly for various books I needed and the cute cashier.

Thanks for the new information, Greg - and the warning.

I haven't decided yet which store I'll ask to order the Gargoyles and Bad Guys trade paperbacks. I initially thought of Starclipper Comics, since that's where I bought my past issues of "Gargoyles" and "Bad Guys", but then I remembered Left Bank Books, a small bookstore in my neighborhood which I regularly go to. (I don't know if you've been there, Matt - I know you live in St. Louis and even visit the Central West End regularly, so you might be familiar with it.) They have some graphic novels there, and I've ordered one from them in the past (my copy of "Gunnerkrigg Court: Orientation"), so I could ask them to get in copies of both books for me once they've been published. It would certainly save me the bus ride to University City and back (though I like going there for other things).

July & August. Yay. Big news to hear, and well-timed too, at least for me. See, I just went to Disneyland this weekend, and not having been there in eleven years, the only Disney property shirt that STILL fit me was -- you guessed it -- my Hot Topic Gargoyles Tee. The great part was that I did see a random visitor or two smile when they saw my shirt and even one guy I met in the Mattahorn line commented how he just saw some episodes of the show the previous night and that he's been reading the comics as well. d:

So there you go, spreading the word one t-shirt and trip to Disneyland at a time. And I'll be sure to bug my retailers as well.

Today, I e-mailed Dan Vado at SLG, asking about the two trades. Here's his response:

Hey Greg,

I was going to be emailing you this week.

Gargoyles I have scheduled for July, and that looks good for Comic-Con. Bad Guys I have scheduled for August and it a possibility for comic-con, but not a lock.

The Gargoyles trade will be in the May issue of Previews, I cannot stress enough that the fans really need to come out of the wood work on this one (not that they were in the wood work, but you know). They need to be "annoying" (i.e. pushy with retailers) as they can be because with the economy what it is right now nothing short of a huge groundswell of apparent demand wll get some of these guys (comic retailers and regular booksellers alike) to even buy a single copy. I am not a fan of getting people to be annoying, but this is going to be a case where it is needed.

Likewise Bad Guys (June Previews) will need an even BIGGER boost. I separated them because I did not want them to cannibilize each other sales-wise.

There you go, hope all is well with you...

Dan
-------------
So that's the news, both the good and the scary. I know I sound like a broken record. I know the fans shouldn't HAVE to be responsible for this, but if the fans don't, who will? I'll do my part. And Dan will do his, relative to his limited economic resources. But we NEED the fans to really step up and do two things:

(1) SPREAD THE WORD!!!! Please make sure EVERYBODY knows about these trades (and Volume 1 too).

(2) HARASS YOUR RETAILERS!! Make sure they KNOW how much you want these books. Pre-order them!! Put them on your pull lists!! Talk them up to every employee of every store!

Please!!

Remember, if these trades do well, we might be back with more original stories sooner than later. If they don't, it'll make it MUCH harder for SLG to justify risking more on the property, much harder to convince Disney that the property is viable and much harder to convince any other publisher to give us a shot.

Thanks,

gdw

Current Mood: ^_^ On my DSi...

I think if Goliath had known in advance that his clan would awaken in 1000 years, that would have made all the difference. I think he would have accepted his responsibilities to them and remained alive for all that time. 1000 years is a long time, but it's still finite.

But if he hadn't known they would have awakened, I think he probably would have abandoned his responsibilities and even been suicidal. Not that he would actually kill himself, but I think he'd be a lot more careless about his life. If he hadn't KNOWN they would have awakened, then he would have simply assumed they were dead forever, because, as was pointed out earlier, to a 10th century gargoyle the idea of raising the castle above the clouds would be an impossibility.

Goliath would definitely have handled things differently than Demona and come out differently at the end of the 1000 years. Not that he is a stronger character per se (I think they are both strong in different ways), but he just doesn't have the kind of temperament where he would hold all of humanity responsible for his problems.

Rebel

WOuld anybody agree on the matter that, if Goliath would have "lived" the 1000 years, he would have been turned into a Wolverine-like character?

I mean, sure, Goliath is and will allways be one of the good guys. But with his thirst for vengeance, and even his smaller streaks of minor arrogance in S1, I could see him going down the same path.

Brook
I agree with Rebel on EVERYTHING she says!!

Going back to Irina's question about how Goliath might have ended up if he had been awake for the 1000 years rather than sleeping in stone (partly because I doubt anyone wants to hear my thoughts on "Family Guy"), there are the earlier drama treatments of the show where the character who wold eventually become Goliath did actually stay awake for the thousand years (aside from his daily forced slumber). Of course, the backstory - where the gargoyle came from, how he came to be guarding that castle or merely living there, whether or not there are other gargoyles - changed as the story evolved, so it's hard to judge from that what the final Goliath might do in the same situation. Plus, since the previous treatments didn't go into full detail, we don't really know exactly what this gargoyle did with his time, beyond scaring interlopers away from the castle.

Much as I'd like to think that Goliath would have been able to cope after a time and accept the responsibilities of his life, it is possible that he just wouldn't have the will to live anymore and if he wasn't living under the condition that he could only die if a particular person killed him like Demona was, he might have worked out a way to avoid having to live out his life in misery. Greg W has confirmed that Goliath asked the Magus to cast the sleep spell on him not to ensure that he awoke with the remainder of his clan but to never wake up again and that he was abandoning his responsibility to the next generation of his clan by leaving the eggs in the care of people he had very little reason to trust. To Goliath "until the castle rises above the clouds" might as well have been "until the moon falls out of the sky," "until sheep learn to sing and tap dance," or "until Doomsday." Raising the castle above the clouds would have seemed an impossible feat to him. The only even remote possibility would have been an extremely powerful wizard having a go at it and I kind of doubt that Goliath would have been too optimistic about the chances of any powerful wizard pitching in to help save a few gargoyles. So if he had the choice, it's possible that Goliath would have rather died than live out a thousand years alone in an increasingly hostile world. Maybe he wouldn't have literally killed himself, but he might have undertaken something that he knew to be a suicide mission.

Incidentally, Demona is a sorceress who had quite a bit of time on her hands. If she found out about the terms of the spell before her meeting with Xanatos, I wonder if she ever tried to raise the castle and break the spell?
