Rebel> Oh, I'm not saying it's fair or unfair, I'm just saying that's likely how Business Types will look at it. It's the same reasoning things like "action movies with female leads don't sell" exist - generalizations out of desperation to be sure you make money.

There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!

If Disney is looking at the grossing numbers of Frozen (and other CGI films) and comparing them to the numbers for TPatF and use that as justification to stay away from hand-drawn, that's terribly unfair. Would TPatF have grossed more if it had been CGI? Would Frozen have grossed less if it had been hand-drawn? (I haven't seen Frozen yet although I intend to get it from Redbox soon. But if it had been hand-drawn I would have made a point to go see it in theaters).

Maybe people simply weren't interested in the previews/plot of TPatF and people WERE interested in the (progressive) plot of Frozen?

uh, okay but it's interesting for historic purposes. In my country, the episodes were never censored anyway...

Comet> It was taken down because the owner (GXB) deemed it no longer necessary. All the deleted scenes were on the S2V2 DVDS. They're uncut.

the youtube video showing censored Gargoyles scenes (it was called something like "Gargoyles - what Disney won't show) is now private or something, is there another video similar to it? I need it for my homepage.

Personally I hope they start making animated films like Paperman which used both 3D animation and 2D animation together.

I have nothing more to say...So why am I still talking?

Matt> I believe hand-drawn animation is now a more difficult medium to work with than CGI (not to say both aren't highly complicated artistic endeavors requiring expert skills). It may rapidly be becoming something more common to smaller productions and more infrequent use, much like stop-motion animation currently is.

As for whether the pendulum will swing back, I don't presume to predict the future. I'll admit I don't expect hand-drawn to go away completely, but I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes far less common than it once was simply due to expenses of production and market pressures against it. I doubt it will completely disappear, however. I do think they'll be more extant than black-and-white films as you mentioned.

So, is hand-drawn animation just not the fad these days or will we one day look back on it like we do black and white movies? In 20 years, will essentially all animation be computer generated?

Comet> They did for The Princess and the Frog. Worldwide unadjusted gross was $267 million. As of Sunday, Frozen became Disney's highest-grossing animated feature with just over a BILLION dollars, almost four times the gross of TPatF. It's the highest-grossing film for Walt Disney Animation Studios and has beaten the previous record holder, The Lion King (unadjusted for inflation). The only Disney-controlled movie with a higher gross is Toy Story 3 (leading by about $60 million) and since Frozen still has at least one market left to be released in, it may overtake that mark as well, becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time.

Besides Frozen, Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, and Bolt all grossed higher than TPatF. In terms of raw profit numbers, hand-drawn is looking unfortunately problematic.

I honestly wish Disney would go back to hand-drawn stuff (except for Pixar movies).

So... all this "Frozen" talk... I had to go watch this movie. And, believe it or not, I'd never heard "Let It Go" until I did.

In short, good song, not great, but good. Good movie too. Not great, but good. It certainly seemed like a progressive movie, especially by Disney standards.

I posted a question for Greg about a month ago, and i went back to check for a response. When I went to the unanswered questions queue, my question wasn't there. I went over the rules and guidelines, and so no infraction. All i want to know is if Greg has any plans to post ANY of his scripts online. He writes his scripts in a very helpful way, and his scripts specifically are fantastic resources for writers trying to break into animation. Greg's structure and use of sfx as action is a great. I mentioned that the ONLY way to see one of his scripts is to go all the way to The Writer's Guild in Los Angeles, and even there, you're not allowed to copy the script. Even if Greg feels uncomfortable showing the whole script ( just an act or two is all we need), posting it as a media resource on the site - perhaps as a .pdf so it is difficult to copy - would give peace of mind? Mr. Weismann's email is nowhere to be found on the internet. I tried getting out to his RAIN book signing in Pasadena to talk to him directly, but no luck, and I have NO idea how to reach him as I know no one in his circle. Can somebody help? It doesn't matter if the script is from YJ, Gargoyles, or Spider-Man...

So after I finished watching a Gargoyles episode on youtube, I pondered on to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yM158anKbo&list=LLCwGDv7ljmIAAbR7mUXqbTA&feature=mh_lolz
A Gargoyles movie trailer. I was going bonkers from excitement!! I shared it on my facebook wall, called my boyfriend telling him we would be in the first row watching it and then I read the description that it was just a fan made video.. my heart shattered a little (lol). So it is not real, BUT this would definitely make an AMAZING Gargoyles movie. Check it out all you Gargoyle fans; you'll love it. Maybe if this video gets enough likes, Disney will consider making it a movie..? Haha, I'm a wishful thinker.

So a friend of mine co-wrote and performed this take on Let it Go, it rather accurately shows how a good song can suffer from overexposure and it's a pretty clever parody to boot.

Anthony> I actually quoted what the composers for Let It Go said to a few friends who weren't watching the Oscars live.

To the tune of Happy Birthday, "Happy Oscars to you, let's do Frozen 2."

Of course, given Disney's track record with ANIMATED sequels, the immediate reaction was a resounding "NO!"

Congrats to Robert Lopez for the EGOT, though. And if anyone missed the acceptance speech, it's linked below.

Thanks, Brainiac. :)

I hear a sequel is in the works as well as a Broadway musical. We can only hope that Frozen 2 is on the same caliber of Toy Story 2 and not Lion King 2.
:P

I'm happy that Gravity took home 7 Oscars. They were all well-deserved and even though it lost, it was my pick for Best Picture.
