A comic in which two people are definitely agreeing to hang out and aren't dating.

Honest. Maybe.

Antiyonder

It's airing on Cartoon Network on Fridays at midnight. There'll be a repeat of the first two episodes this coming midnight, tonight. See the lineup here and here:

MATTHEW - Thanks for telling me.

It's always a bummer missing out on Free Comic Book Day, especially since my local store was the one to come up with the idea.

Todd> That's only the first half of the pilot, there's a second half that wasn't released to Youtube. I'd heavily recommend checking it out.

That's Sweet Valley Twins I meant to say.

B and we'll anyone> Got some FCBD. I'll be posting what I keep with next week's purchases.

Yeah, I get as much as I can in the chance of finding a new property or just new series or such to get into.

And just some to pass out.

But Smurfs I'm definitely keeping. Sweet Valley Teens I enjoyed, but giving that away and just going for the Graphic Novels.

Got the Stepping Stones (and it's sequel Apple Crush), plus Allergies cause of checking out the FCBD samplers.

Definitely the Rangers Academy book. Looks good and I hope it encourages Boom to not be so dependent on MMPR nostalgia.

Anyway, what I did get this week: https://www.deviantart.com/antiyonder/art/Collection-Addition-Picture-8-961317522

MATTHEW - Watched the first episode of "Unicorn: Warriors Eternal" that you linked to.
It looks good so far. I liked the "sweep of history" tone, with the leads re-appearing to battle the monstrous creature throughout history, up to an alternate steampunk Victorian London. Merlin's character design reminded me of the Archmage, if with the obvious difference that he's the heroes' advisor, rather than the antagonist. (This Arthurian element got my attention all the more, because the wedding scene reminded me of the "Tristram's re-awakening" scene in "Camelot 3000" - in both cases, the bride at a wedding turns out to be a reborn mythical hero, canceling the wedding. And I got a kick out of Copernicus the robot, who had some fun character designs.
Thanks for telling us about it, and providing the link.

Good luck on Free Comic Day, everyone!

A couple weeks back we discussed Genndy Tartakovsky's new toon, Unicorn: Warriors Eternal. Well the first episode just dropped if anyone wants to catch it.

The mention of the Triad and the possibility of Demona stealing Egwardo makes me wonder if we are getting some sort of homage to the old Marvel comic storyline that featured Demona allied with the Triad to hatch a gargoyle egg. Guess we'll see if its a coincidence or not.

Todd> Awesome revelation. Thanks! Not surprised, but still glad to get confirmation that
Hyppolyta is going to be canon in a couple months. Love that we'll finally get to see all three biological children of a gargoyle pair. That's something that has interested me for a long time. As for "Lefty", we can only speculate. Doesn't sound like a human character. I'm wondering if it'll be a nickname for a new beast character.
Exciting times!

Matt

Fun thing about New York is just how diverse it is. You'll find folks from all over the Caribbean Sea, South America, Asia and Europe.

So Isaak could be Haitian. Could also be Jamaican (with his accent toned down so that it's legible to the average reader). Hurrican could be part of the cartel. Or maybe a Trinitario. Until we get something definite (like confirmation from Greg himself) unfortunately it's all pretty much guesswork.

Sorry, I should have provided context. I'm re-reading Gargoyles #3 and was wondering about the identity of the other gangsters in that scene.
Alex (Aldrius)

So obviously yingpei is Chinese (probably Triad), and Hurrican I think is latino (Colombian cartel?), Isaak is Hatian I think? Or maybe New Orleans?
Alex (Aldrius)

Sorry for the double post, but the Gargoyles News Page also included a link to an interview with Greg Weisman and Drew Moss about the upcoming "Dark Ages" spin-off. They mentioned
two new characters, Hyppolyta and Lefty. Hyppolyta we already know about thanks to Greg's little ficbit many years ago, but Lefty's entirely new. We don't even know whether they're a human or a gargoyle.
Todd Jensen

Saw the upcoming "double spread" from #6.
One of the scenes looked as if Brooklyn was encountering a few of the terracotta soldiers from Qin Shi Huangdi's tomb.
Obviously, it wouldn't be conventional narration for Bronx. But Bronx, and beasts in general, are not dummies. They understand names, basic phrases, emotional states, and their senses. Bronx's narration boxes might break down into something like "Coldstone. Friend. Angry." "Lexington. Sad." It might be particularly interesting if Bronx's narration was picking up on things (emotions, smells, etc.) that we otherwise wouldn't get from any of the more conventional characters.

Also, keep in mind that as with the other chapters, Bronx's chapter would have plenty of dialogue from other characters and entire scenes where he isn't present at all. So there would be plenty of content, not just barks and growls.

Just my thoughts. I think it could be interesting and I think greg could pull it off if he was so inclined. We'll see.

Matt

Yes, I can't see conventional narration working for Bronx, either.
Todd Jensen

It'd be amusing if Bronx's narration boxes were filled with barks, growls and the occasional awoos.
Matthew

I'm not sure that I'd want a Bronx narration, at least not in the traditional sense. If Greg were to do some sort of quirky device to convey Bronx's feelings/reactions in an unconventional way, that could be fun. But I wouldn't want to have Bronx's thoughts conveyed via typical narration. I think that would strain credibility, and would also ruin his mystique. :)

I have done the math, and noted that if each speaking clan member gets to narrate an issue of this arc, that leaves us one short. Something I'm sure Greg has accounted for, and probably means we're in for some kind of surprise eventually.

Craig

As I said, I wasn't too certain about Demona ever being a narrator, thanks to her being one of the antagonists, but it looks as if my theory that Brooklyn will be the narrator in #6 is correct.
Todd Jensen

After Greg B just showed me something George Kambadais just showed me on twitter, I'd like to change my guess slightly. : )

1 - Elisa
2 - Angela
3 - Broadway
4 - Goliath
5 - Hudson
6 - Brooklyn
7 - Coldstone
8 - Bronx
9 - Gnash
10 - Coldfire
11 - Katana
12 - Lexington

Todd> So far, our narrator has either been somewhat random or someone directly involved in the chapter's events. And always one of our core clan members. I can see Brooklyn coming up soon, but I doubt Demona will be a narrator. Lexington will happen at some point, I'm sure. And I'm looking forward to that a lot. Brook and Lex would finish off the core members. Well, nearly. I still think a Bronx narration would be fascinating. After that, hearing from Coldfire, Coldstone, Gnash , and Katana would be awesome. So, this is my hunch (based on very little):

1 - Elisa
2 - Angela
3 - Broadway
4 - Goliath
5 - Hudson
6 - Coldstone
7 - Brooklyn
8 - Bronx
9 - Gnash
10 - Coldfire
11 - Katana
12 - Lexington

Anyone else want to make a prediction? Could be fun to look back in seven months and see how we did.

I just noticed that the final issue of the Marvel comic's letters page says "Special thanks to Christy Marx" at the bottom, but doesn't explain what she did. Searching the Ask Greg archives, I see that she's apparently appeared on some panels with him at fan events. Would anyone know whether this is the same Christy Marx who authored Conquests of Camelot and Conquests of the Longbow by Sierra?
Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

My thoughts on who's likely to be the narrators for the next two issues.

For #6, I suspect Brooklyn,
with the first page likely being his point of view of, and response to, Goliath's refusal to let Brooklyn break him out. Brooklyn will have to take over as clan leader during Goliath's imprisonment, which makes his perspective particularly fitting for the next issue
.

Given all the attention Demona's return is receiving for #7, I suspect she'll be its narrator. This has the challenge that she's definitely in the "unreliable" category, but the television series did use that concept once, with Vinnie in "Vendettas". Demona's style of unreliable narration, of course, will be far more serious than Vinnie's.

Matthew> Nice.

Bruno:.....Hey.
Goliath: Yes?
Bruno: So, this weird, isn't it?
Goliath: How is this weird?
Bruno: Well, you know. Most of the time I was trying to kill you guys. And now I'm, you know. Not.
Goliath: It is indeed an interesting change.
Bruno: Yeah. Well...bye.

This look at recent Gargwiki edits was interesting, in regards to Bruno:
Wonder if he avoided being noticed or if he and any Manhattan Clan members had an awkward greeting with one another.
Third!
Matt

Second.

Hark! The sea-faring wild-fowl loud proclaim
My coming, and the swarming of the bees.
These are my heralds, and behold! my name
Is written in blossoms on the hawthorn-trees.
I tell the mariner when to sail the seas;
I waft o'er all the land from far away
The breath and bloom of the Hesperides,
My birthplace. I am Maia. I am May.
