Is golaith and ilsisa ever goig to be together.
Aren't they now?
I'm realy nervous to ask you this because I realy dont like showing my perverse side to people I respect, but I've already asked one perverse question so I might as well ask another, even if this one is more blunt then the other.
	Is Elisa a virgin?
	There I asked it!
No.
Sorry for asking so many questions. I hope you've at least found them interesting. Any way, on to the next one I want to ask you. When Grandmother healed Elisa was that realy just the plants she used that did the trick or was it a little magical intervention supplied by a loophole of some sort?
I think the former.
One last question before bed....
From what little we've seen, it seems that Brooklyn and Katana are parents, not just rookery parents. (All those years with just each other would make it seem inevitable. There are no rookery siblings or other parents.) You wrote that Broadway and Angela ~choose~ to raise their children in the gargoyle style. So...
1. Are there currently any clans who have adopted human parenting, like they adopted human naming? Will there be by the future series?
2. Even those choosing to raise children collectively, are their strong human influences to that thought? (For instance, noting a rookery child looks like you.)
3. Am I correct in my assumption that Brooklyn and Katana are more like human parents in that respect?
4. It has been strongly implied that Elisa and Goliath will in some way adopt. Should they raise a child, would it be as individual or collective parents?
More later, (when I can hopefully decipher my handwriting).
1. We'll have to wait and see.
2. See above.
3. See above.
4. See above.
Greg,
I always enjoyed the relationship of MacBeth and Demona on the show for its intensity and sorrow, as well as Xanatos and Fox with their unique understanding of companionship and love. And it makes me think...
With all the love triangles, the magical bonds, the promises, oaths, or senses of duty to consider, which relationship between any set characters of the series were you most passionate about writing and why? What do you think drove that relationship? And do you think it is the simplicity or the strife of that Character Relationship that makes it more appealing to you as a writer and does that opinion change as a viewer?
I suppose the top relationship in my mind is probably Goliath-Elisa, but truly I'm interested in all of them. And a lot. They're all fascinating to me, for a variety of reasons. Basically, I don't have a standard answer to your questions.
Dear Mr. Weisman,
After Goliath falls in love with Elisa, would her menstrual cycles have any biological effect on him? Yes, I know...that's a very ODD question, to say the least. Thank you, regardless.
Why would it?
in Goliath and Elisa's relationship can Hummans mate with Gargoyles.has it done so in the past?
It depends what you mean by mate. Check the archives for a fuller answer.
Gargoyles and Politics
I know that you generally like to keep politics out of this site, which is why I hope that this question isn't too out-of-line. All the same, I'm very interested in the role that politics plays in the "Gargoyles" universe.
What, generally, are Elisa's political views? Does she belong to a particular political party? And does she discuss politics with the Manhattan Clan at all?
For that matter, how politically literate are the various members of the Manhattan Clan, particularly Goliath and Lexington? Do they read any political texts? For that matter, does Hudson ever catch "60 Minutes" or any similar shows on television? How much do Elisa's political views (assuming that she shares them with the Clan at all) color their political viewpoints?
I'd also be greatly interested in any information you would be willing to share regarding the politics of other human characters in the series, most particularly Xanatos, Fox, Matt, Renard, and especially Macbeth. For that matter, what does Demona think of human politics (I expect that I can guess the answer to this one, but still)? :)
If you can't tell, this is coming from a prospective Politics major who to some degree or another views all things through a political lens. If you wish to leave these things up to the viewer then I would completely understand, but any information at all would be tremendously appreciated.
Thank you very much for your time, and I eagerly await the widespread release of the two remaining Trade Paperbacks. I've been trying to spread word of them (and of the DVDs) in the Comments section of Gargoyles-related YouTube videos; every little bit helps, I hope.
Based purely on stereotypes of ethnicity and labor and location, I'd guess Elisa's a democrat.
I don't think politics is something that would attract Lex's attention much. I would think that Hudson, who prefers Celebrity Hockey to 60 Minutes, would feel lost rather quickly in political discussions. Goliath is all about the classics. I don't think Elisa's proselytizing much.
Xanatos seems like a likely Republican. At least fiscally. (Don't really see him or Fox as social conservatives.) Matt must be a Dem. Renard is probably a Republican. Macbeth... I don't think he's an American citizen. Demona... come on.
Is Elisa's hair really blue?
No. It's black. See the archives for a more detailed explanation of why in cartoons and comics we use blue highlights for black hair.
You stated that, when in response to Elisa and Goliath having kids, "Elisa could never be pregnant with Goliath's child without assistance from science or magic. I've already stated that I don't see them going that way."
I was wondering, what makes you think Elisa wouldn't want to use magic or science to carry Goliath's child?
Elisa seemed happy and esily adjusted to her as a gargoyle during "The Mirror". She even hinted this at the ending of the very episode, thus you can see my confusion.
I don't think that's what she was hinting.
MI PREGUNTA ES LA SIGUENTE: HUBIERA SIDO POSIBLE QUE GOLIATH SE TRANSFORMARA EN HUMANO PARA ASI CASARSE CON ELISA Y ASI HACERSE REALIDAD SU SUEÃ'O COMO EN EL CAPITULO "PODRIA SER REALIDAD"? GRACIAS
My high school Spanish is pretty rusty...
"My question is the [?]: [??] posible that Goliath will be transformed to human for [??] with Elisa and [??] reality... ugh, I give up.
I'm afraid I can't be sure enough of your question to answer it well...
Dear Greg,
I was reading through the archives just a moment ago, when a question occured to me about Demona and her actions during "The Reckoning." You stated that the reason Thailog did not clone Angela was that he did not have the opportunity to get her DNA at that point because Demona controlled the release of the mosquito that took the blood samples and when Angela was around, she just didn't release it. But she DID release it when Elisa was around (hence Delilah). My question is: Why did Demona, who despises Elisa, want to steal her DNA and clone her? My understanding is that she didn't know Thailog was creating a female replacement for herself, but was cloning Elisa or making a hybrid human-gargoyle part of the plan Thailog and Demona hatched together? If cloning Elisa was part of their plan, what was the purpose of it? What justification did Thailog give Demona to convince her to capture Elisaâs DNA? If cloning her were not part of their plan, why would Demona snatch a blood sample from Elisa?
Demona controlled the release, but not who the mosquito stung. She released a mosquito once when Elisa AND a few gargoyles were present. She didn't anticipate that Elisa would get bit, nor what Thailog and Sevarius would do with the DNA.
I reading a question someone asked you about if demona and goliath would ever be a couple again and you said no. I was some what unhappy about that development as I was always had hope they would be a couple again at some point. I also find Elisa to be a some what uninteresting character to be honest compared with demona. I know many shows will take into consideration input from the fanbase and bring certain characters back to life, give popular characters with a small amount of screen time more time and so one. I was wondering if you basically have a vision set in stone for your characters or do you ever make any changes in gargoyles or any other show based on fan feed back? I hope this questions does not violate your rules for answering questions, but I was really wondering about what level you take fan input into consideration regarding existing characters and events? Great show and keep up the good work. I'm kind of burnt out on spiderman to be honest, but now that I know you're involved in it I guess I'll have to buy the box sets and check it out.
Hmmm... I really don't change stories based on fan desires. First off, fans don't all agree on what they want (for example a lot of folks think Elisa is great), and sometimes (like Demona getting back together with Goliath) they want things that just don't make any story sense and would be bad for the property.
On the other hand, I do respond to what the fans respond to. Brooklyn's popularity was probably one of the things that lead me to the creation of TimeDancer.
G2009 Radio Play - Act Three
	672.	NARRATOR
	Act Three.
	673.	DEMONA
Norman Osborn was a fool. So obsessed with the power of science, he kept the Crown of Thorns in this vault as if it was just another souvenir â" albeit an expensive one â" to hang upon his wall. But with the Crown and the Spear of Destiny together, I now have the power to force all of humanity to its knees.
	674.	GOLIATH
These are Christian icons, Demona. Not every human being is a Christian.
	675.	DEMONA
Not every human being speaks Latin, but that didnât stop me from using a Latin spell to turn a city-full of humans to stone. The magic I wield is potent beyond measure. Mine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory. No human may resist. No human will be spared. None will be spared who oppose me. Just look at this foolâ¦
	676.	GOLIATH
	Her name is Obsidiana.
	677.	DEMONA
Of course it is. For she wears the mystic Obsidian pendant fashioned by human sorcerers. Even that is enough to put her in my thrall. She has relinquished her gargoyle birthright.
	678.	GOLIATH
	I have relinquished nothing.
	679.	NARRATOR
Demona waves the Spear of Destiny, and Electro rises and blasts Goliath back into the wall.
	680.	GOLIATH
	<impact>
	681.	DEMONA
Yes, Iâm surprised youâre unaffected⦠since you reek of humanity. The stink of your human whore is in your hair, on your lips, everywhere. And nothing in this world will give me more pleasure, Goliath, than watching your detective on her knees to me, as she draws her service revolver and thanks me with tears of joy in her eyes⦠before gratefully blowing out her own brains.
	682.	GOLIATH
	(coldly furious)
	That will never be.
	683.	DEMONA
No? My power expands with every second. I doubt sheâs far away.
	684.	GOLIATH
	You will not harm Elisa.
	685.	NARRATOR
Goliath advances on Demona. Electro blasts away, but Goliath will not be stoppedâ¦
	686.	DEMONA
No one ever said you werenât persistent, Goliath. But what do you hope to gain?
	687.	GOLIATH
	(through gritted teeth)
I will turn these forces back upon you.
	688.	DEMONA
Impossible. I am the last true gargoyle left on this world. The Crownâs magicks cannot touch me.
	689.	GOLIATH
So you believe. But I am not the only one who reeks of humanity. Am I⦠Dominique?!
	690.	NARRATOR

	695.	NARRATOR
He shoots off a web, yanking the bloody crown from Demonaâs head.

	697.	NARRATOR

	724.	ROBBIE
You canât publish because the authorities refuse to comment. We have no pictures or statements to corroborate a story that includes gargoyles, a dead Green Goblin and everything except the kitchen sink. No one will believe it. I was there, and I donât believe it! Print this, Jonah, and The Bugle becomes the next Daily Tattler.

	744.	EMILY
Donât lie to me, baby. You hired the worst chauffer in the city to delay our progress. You had a secret hatch installed in the bus bathroom, so you could slip in and out undetected. And you left a pre-recorded âvomit tapeâ with voice recognition software. All very impressive for a sixteen-year-old. But you need to understand⦠the Green Goblin is not what your father wanted for you.

	301.	NARRATOR
Across town, Goliath also turns to stone.
	302.	SPIDER-MAN
	What the heck?!
	303.	GREEN GOBLIN
	Well, that was⦠unexpected.
	304.	SPIDER-MAN
All right, thatâs enough. I know youâre not the real Gobby.
	305.	GREEN GOBLIN
Yes, yes, âItâs not the voice; itâs the words. Not the tech, but the moves.â Iâve heard it all beforeâ¦
	306.	SPIDER-MAN
Then I know exactly who you really are: Chameleon!
	307.	GREEN GOBLIN
That would ease your conscience, wouldnât it? To think Iâm Chameleon â" and not the ghost of the man you killed!
	308.	SPIDER-MAN
	I donât believe in ghosts.
	309.	GREEN GOBLIN
Then maybe youâd prefer I was the Spawn of Goblin.
	310.	SPIDER-MAN
Oh, youâd just love to shift the blame to Harry. Sorry, Gobby â" I mean, Chammy â" but weâve been there, done that. Besides, no matter who you are, there hasnât been time for the Globulin Green to kick in and truly Goblify you. So Iâm gonna take you down now while youâre still just a cheap imitation.
	311.	GREEN GOBLIN
You could do that⦠or you could save stoneface over there.
	312.	NARRATOR
Gobby throws a pumpkin bomb at Goliath. Instinctively, Spidey webs it awayâ¦
	313.	PUMPKIN BOMB

	315.	SPIDER-MAN
So in hindsight, Iâm thinking maybe you werenât part of the Gob-Squad, right?
	(beat)
	Fine. Stonewall me.
May STANDS.
	316.	NARRATOR
That morning in Forest Hills, Spidey sneaks in through his bedroom window, hoping to catch a few Zs.
	317.	MAY
	Peter, are you awake.
	318.	PETER
Uh, sure Aunt May. Just getting dressed.
	319.	MAY
Well, hurry up. Iâm⦠âconferencingâ with all the other parents.
Robbie, ROSIE THOMPSON and George STAND.
	320.	ROBBIE
Are you sure you donât mind, Mrs. Parker? Cuz I gotta say, what youâre proposing would be my worst nightmare.
	321.	MAY
<laughs> Oh, I donât believe that for a minute, Mr. Robertson. Itâs a joy to be around Peter and his friends. And I wonât be alone. Anna Watson and Mrs. Osborn will be with me.
	322.	ROSIE
Emily? Sheâs so⦠odd. I donât think sheâs ever said one word to meâ¦
	323.	MAY
Well, I donât know her very well, Rosie, but Harry is Peterâs best friend â" no offense to your Eugene â" so she must be doing something right.
	324.	ROSIE
May, you never change. Always seeing the best in people.
	325.	MAY
Iâll take that as a compliment, dear girl.
	326.	GEORGE
In any case, Iâm glad to get Gwen out of Manhattan for a few days. The streets are looking pretty grim right about now.
	327.	MAY
Oh, Iâm sure your officers will have things under control in no time.
	328.	PETER
	Aunt May, whatâs going on?
	329.	MAY
Oh, didnât I tell you, Peter. Iâm chaperoning your trip to Miami Beach!
	330.	PETER
	Wow. Great.

	333.	DOMINIQUE
I think I can help you, Mr. Lincoln.
	334.	BIG MAN
What makes you think I need any help?
	335.	DOMINIQUE
Oh, little things. The shattered window, that unusual statue on the ledge outsideâ¦
	336.	BIG MAN
Point taken. How about you cut to the chase?
	337.	DOMINIQUE
Fine. Tony Dracon. Tomas Brod. Silvio Manfredi. All in jail. Hammerhead. Sable Manfredi. On the run. This gives you a unique opportunity to reclaim what was lost.
	338.	BIG MAN
Iâm sure L. Thompson Lincoln has no idea what youâre talking about. But go onâ¦
	339.	DOMINIQUE
You have three problems. Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus and the government watching your every move.
	340.	BIG MAN
	And you have the solutionâ¦
	341.	DOMINIQUE
I have the manpower. Three⦠âsuper-villainsâ to take down the competition and Dominic Dracon to use as a figurehead.
	342.	BIG MAN
The old man? I heard he was shy a few brain cells.
	343.	DOMINIQUE
Itâs easy enough to spread the word he was faking insanity to avoid prosecution. And easy enough to assign him a keeper. Meanwhile, heâs a Dracon. And that name still carries weight, I believe.
	344.	BIG MAN
It does. But what would you want in exchange?
	345.	DOMINIQUE
Nothing extraordinary. Just the services of the Tinkerer.
	346.	BIG MAN
I believe that can be arranged.
	347.	DOMINIQUE
Lovely. But letâs not allow the moss to gather. Youâll want to move fast. Before the Octopus retrieves his armsâ¦

	351.	NARRATOR
Vulture sits down with Electro and Doctor Octopus.
	352.	DOCTOR OCTOPUS

	In an OsCorp vault.
	354.	ELECTRO
	At Rykers?!
	355.	VULTURE
<shhhhh> Not THE Vault. A vault. Still very high security, and the police are bound to expect our arrival, butâ¦
	356.	DOCTOR OCTOPUS
Indeed. <sigh> OsCorp. Even in death, Norman Osborn torments me. But it cannot be helped. I must have my arms. We go in under cover of darkness tonight.
Doctor Octopus, Vulture and Electro sit. Silver Spoon Manager remains standing. Peter and Mary Jane STAND.
	357.	NARRATOR
The three men exit through one door. Two teenagers enter through another.
	358.	SILVER SPOON MANAGER
	Seventy!
	359.	MARY JANE
Try to understand, Tiger. I just canât do that to Gwen. Sheâs really become my best friend at Midtown.
	360.	PETER
But itâs not like weâd be making out or anything, right? Uh, right?
	361.	MARY JANE
	Right.
	362.	PETER
Right, right. Weâd be going as friends. Hanging out when the couples were ⦠you know, coupling.
	363.	MARY JANE
And that would be great. But look at it from her point of view. She took all the risks, and you still wound up with Liz. Thereâs no way, sheâd see me as anything but a threat. Wait, that sounded really conceited.
	364.	PETER
Have you looked in a mirror? Not conceited. Just fact.
	365.	MARY JANE
Ooh, nice one. Such a player.
	366.	PETER
Yeah, right. The worldâs loneliest player.
	367.	MARY JANE
Stop it. I know you donât want to hurt Gwen either. Not after all the two of you have been through.
	368.	PETER
Yeah⦠ I wonder if Ms. Brant likes Miami. Kidding, kidding⦠ Wow, pretty good. That was practically the Look.
	369.	SILVER SPOON MANAGER
	Seventy-One!
SEYMOUR OâREILLY stands.
	370.	PETER
	So youâre just not going?
	371.	MARY JANE
Oh, Iâm going. Itâs 48 degrees outside and 82 in Miami. I asked Tiny to be my plus one.
	372.	PETER
Tiny?! Tiny McKeever?! The guyâs got the brain of an amoeba. He makes King Kong look like a genius. Hell, he makes Flash look like Stephen Hawking!
	373.	MARY JANE
	(shrugs)
	Heâs cute.
	374.	PETER
<argggh> I just wish I could skip the whole thing. But Aunt Mayâs going, and after her heart attack, I really think she could use some fun in the sun--
	375.	SEYMOUR
Sorry to interrupt. Couldnât help overhearing.
	376.	PETER
	Oh, hey, Seymour.
	377.	SEYMOUR
Just wanted to let you know Harry invited me too. And Iâm totally going stag. I mean who wants a ball and chain when Miami Beach is full of hotties, right?
	378.	PETER
	Uhâ¦
	379.	SEYMOUR
Just donât expect to hang out, okay. Youâd fully cramp my style.
	380.	PETER
	Of course I wouldâ¦

	384.	TINKERER

	387.	MAY
All right, we have three adults and sixteen children â" sorry, sixteen teenagers. Thatâs nineteen sojourners bound for Florida. So why did my headcount come to twenty?
	388.	MARY JANE
I think you counted the bus driver, Mrs. Parker.
	389.	MAY
	Oh, that I did.
	390.	BISHANSKY
Hey, twist my arm! Iâll go to Miami with you guys!!
	391.	SALLY
	Was anyone talking to you?

	400.	SALLY
	Excuse me?! Itâs a bus.
	401.	LIZ
Sallyâs right. Weâre not ditching the private jet for a bus. Right, Jason?
	402.	JASON
	Uhâ¦
	403.	SALLY
	Right.
	404.	PETER
It really is a very nice bus though.
	405.	BISHANSKY
Hey, Iâm not offended. I still canât believe the Osborns hired me again. The last time, I got in two-- <impact grunt>
	406.	SEYMOUR
Dude, you totally rear-ended that guy at the tollbooth!
	407.	BISHANSKY
	Not againâ¦
	408.	SALLY
Wonderful. Now, weâll be stuck here forever!
	409.	MAY
	Everybody stay calm.

Tomorrow, Chapter VIII...
Hey Greg! I just started re-watching Gargoyles and I've got a question for you. Now, Elisa really bought into the whole idea of Gargoyles a little easy and the Gargoyles really adapted to their new lives (and the drastically different version of the English language) really quickly. I know it's a cartoon and we're supposed to be suspended in a bit of disbelief, but looking back, do you ever wish you could have developed these things a bit more?
No.
Hi, Greg! I've got a question about Broadway. In Deadly Force, did Broadway feel so guilty about shooting Elisa that he felt like throwing up?
I'll leave that to your interpretation.
Big fan of the show. I've always wondered, how Elisa can afford such a nice apartment. I know she's a detective but no way can a detective make that much money to afford that?
Your premise is faulty. Stating that there's "no way" she can afford that is patently false. We don't know if she owns, rents or sub-lets. We don't know how she got the place. We don't know who had it before. We don't know what it looked like when she got it, whether it was a disaster that she cleaned up or an empty industrial loft. We don't know if the building is a co-op, rent-controlled or rent-stabilized. We don't have enough information to state what you've stated.
Why did Thailog not clone Angela? I know in the past you've said that Demona never released the mosquito to gain Angela's dna and that's why. But Thailog could have easily have had his own mosquito(sounds so silly when I say it like that) and got dna samples from the clan himself like he did from Demona and Eliza. Wouldn't he have wanted the additionally manpower? He was planning on betraying Demona anyway that's why he created Delilah. Why respect Demona wishes with Angela? Did he think the other male clones would be easier to control without another female gargoyle?
Your premise is incorrect.
When would Thailog have had the opportunity to gather Angela's DNA (before Clan-Building, I mean)? He got Elisa's DNA from one of Demona's mosquitos. We saw that in the episode. One presumes he got Demona's the same way. That is, the mosquitos were released and took a blood sample. It's not like Demona could tell them whom to bite. Her only control was to NOT release a mosquito. So when Angela was around, she didn't release one.
Greetings from Spain, Greg :)
I've been gliding through the archives in the hopes of finding something, anything, that can help me remember what my absolutely vital question was las time Ask Greg was open (Ask Greg closed before I could submit it). I'm sure it was something super boring about insights and Gargoyle psychology (especially Goliath's, I find him complex and amazing) but well. I'll have to stick to the rant that went with it and spare you the question :D.
You've heard all kinds of praises and ear-candies about you and the show by now, so I really don't want to be boring and repetitive. But the fact is that more than twelve years after the show was first aired here, I'm still as hooked as I ever was. If not more. I was in college then (imagine, I'll love watching cartoons till the last day :D) and I couldn't believe how good that episode of this Gargoyles thing I randomly caught one day was. I ended up rushing out of classes for the rest of the term, not to miss a single episode more.
You've explained before how you really feel that the story it's out there somewhere, and you tapped into it, somehow. I understand what you mean. It feels that way. Exactly that way.
The characters are so dimensional that they make the story so intense and...well, real. To the point that I'm not only positive about it being the best tv show I've ever seen, but also feels like one of the best readings. Your story is better than 80% of the books I've read in the last, say, 12 years. One almost yearns for something like Gargoyles happening to the world, with the same intensity which half the female population around the world dreams of finding Mr. Darcy... And that is something I truly thank you for.
Goliath and Elisa deserve a special mention. I don't think I've fallen so in love with a fictional couple since..well..Mr. Darcy here and Elizabeth (mm..actually I think I might have subconsciously matched the two brooding heros with the two strong-willed women, even though their stories are so different..). No wonder Elisa couldn't get herself off Goliath's hook and viceversa. And by the way, going through the archives, I read something about clan wind ceremonies on Elisa's dying. I'm amazed, I couldn't even picture it. It's so sad, one or the other dying, that even if intellectually it's something obvious, I really don't want to know that far. Pretty childish of me I guess but, well. I want some things eternal :D
For a Gargoyles unconditional, I guess I was born in the wrong country, lol. But one day, who knows! I just hope Gatherings are still happening.
Thank you so much, Greg, for a lot of reasons. Not only for the show and the comics and being here to feed the beasts from time to time, but for your dedication. For not giving up. For believing in what you do, and therefore allowing some of us to go along for the ride, and end up believing in what WE do (doomed-storyteller here :))
Wish you all the best, Greg, and I really hope you can find soon a way to let the story go on. The clan would want you to ;)
BeLa xx
PS: Just so you know, I showed Awakenings to Tania, a dear friend, and she watched the entire show, plus TGC (which she didn't really enjoy as much, by the way) in less than ten days.
PPS: I hope my english was understandable enough, by the way!
Hey, I'll take all the Jane Austen comparisons (particularly favorable ones) that you want to dish. I'm a big fan. And I'm sure she was (at least) an indirect influence on my work.
And your English is just great. Thanks for all the kind words.
Dont think Im perverted for asking this but after seeing Goliath and elisa's relationship on the show I just got really curious,is it possible for gargoyles to mate with humans not reproduce just simply mate.
Sure.
In the series Elisa's hair color seems to be dark blue, although it is black considering her African and Native American ancestory. Is the reason you did this because of the series' generally dark color scheme and the probability of it getting lost in the background if it were black?
Or do you just like the color blue? :P
There's kind of a tradition in comics and cartoons to use blue to highlight black hair. You can't highlight black with black. And lightening the black, i.e. making it grey, makes a character look old. If you use brown, then the character's hair looks brown, not black. For most people, the dark blue sheen on black hair still reads as black hair.
I have a question about Elisa and I did check the archives before asking. Where in Manhattan is Elisa's apartment located?
We generally thought of it as being in Soho.
