1.In order from strongest to weakest in terms of combat can you arrange the original eight members?
2.Who would you say is a better fighter Red Arrow from season 1 or Nightwing from season 2?

Greg responds...

1. No. [See my next answer.]

2. Totally different fighting styles, so it's all situational.

Crazy brilliant season premiere, team. It's a perfect sequel to the first season: at its core, this series is a story about how the youth of the DCU grow and evolve into adult heroes. Moving from the first 'generation' of sidekicks to a second seems perfectly natural in hindsight. I'm looking forward to getting to know your versions of all of the new characters.

I'm certain that you'll find it impossible to completely ignore the hate generated by the changes to the show - but I hope you don't take any of it to heart. Take it instead as reaffirmation that you have really hooked many viewers - take it to mean that they really care about the characters that you have shaped, and that they are actually afraid for their futures. I want to know what happens with Wally and Artemis and Kal'dur'ahm as much as the next fan - but I also have faith that you and your team will deliver.

However, we still have not seen a green light for a third season. While I don't dislike Green Lantern, I'd much rather Young Justice continue to be a part of DC Nation once Beware the Batman becomes part of the block as opposed to GL:TAS. I live a few miles from Cartoon Network HQ ... do you think it would do any good if I took them cookies on a daily basis in order to convince them to pick up the show for another 26 episodes?

Many thanks to you and the rest of the team for continually delivering the best in entertainment.

Greg responds...

I guess it couldn't hurt... but somehow I doubt cookies will wind up playing a big role in the decision. (Heck, if I thought they would put us over the top, I'd buy cookies for CN myself.)

I've just remembered 2 questions. (It was going to be more than 5 anyway)

1- During season 1, only Alfred, a few league members and Ra's Al Ghul knew Batman and Robin's identity.
Now 5 years later, are Batman, Nightwing, Robin and Batgirl's identities known to the rest of the team? Or only a few of them know? (in that case, who knows?)

2- When did Barbara discover Dick was Robin/Nightwing? When did she become Batgirl? When did she join the team?

Greg responds...

1. More know, but not all. I'm not going to reveal here who knows what.

2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.

Hi Greg! Loved Season 2's opening, can't wait to see where it goes from here.

1. Do Lagoon Boy's powers all stem from Atlantean sorcery?

2. If so, can other Atlanteans inflate themselves to be super-strong and tough using magic, or is this unique to Lagoon Boy's species?

3. Err...actually, come to think of it, does Lagoon Boy's species have a name?

Thanks!

Greg responds...

1. Well, not all of them. He's still an Atlantean and can breathe underwater and is fairly strong and dense naturally. But his "puffing" and extra-super-strength come from sorcery.

2. It's unique to his chosen study at the Conservatory. In theory others could do it, if they mastered the technique.

3. It's a sub-species, not a species. He's an Atlantean Human.

Hey Greg,

So I just watched the YJ season premiere; it made me think of an old interview of yours where you say you wish that cartoons depicted the characters growing over time. You really weren't kidding huh? This is what I love about your shows, I honestly can't say I know what's coming next. Props to DC and Warner Bros for letting you take such a big, interesting narrative risk

Greg responds...

DC, WB and CN were all huge supporters of the risks Brandon and I wanted to take. And we appreciate that a lot.

1) Why is Jesse McCartney's Nightwing voice no different to his Robin voice?

2) Isn't it a bit far-fetched that Nighting automatically thought of an incident from 5 years previous in response to Adam Strange's news about the six Leaguers' reputations on Rann?

3) Why is that it's taken five years for John Stewart, an active Green Lantern, to discover that he's a fugitive in parts of space?

4) In the event that you get a season three, will there be another timeskip? I'm assuming so because if there was going to be just one, one would think that it wouldn't happen after just 26 episodes.

Greg responds...

1. Well, it is. Slightly. It's a tad deeper, certainly. And the performance is different, reflecting his age, etc. But if you're looking for a big change, I'm not understanding why. Why WOULD it be different? He's the same guy.

2. It was the specificity of WHICH six Leaguers. Plus, it was a pretty memorable event and a mystery that never was solved.

3. ASKED AND ANSWERED.

4. Yes.

Hello Greg,

This is more a comment and not a question. I wanted to let you know I have really enjoyed Young Justice so far, but I have a slight complaint, I am from Mexico and english is my second language, so whenever I see characters that speak spanish on the show they seem to speak english like stereotypes, and it is somewhat offensive.

Usually Bane will speak mostly perfect sentences in english with complex words in them but then call people "amigo" or "niño", a real person wouldn't do that, as those are some of the first words one learns when learning english. His dialogue with the Kobra guy seems like it was translated literally word by word, like when he says "mi mejor" meaning "my best", although it is a correct literall translation of those two words, that and most of the conversation makes little to no sense in spanish.

A similar case happens with Blue Beetle calling people "hermano" and things of the sort. I understand that you are trying to make it clear that these characters know spanish, or have a latin american background, but I really wish you tried a different approach like the accent Bane spoke in Batman: TAS rather than reinforce a negative stereotype. To give you an idea, it's like if every african-american character on the show spoke in ebonics.

Sorry if I seem to be nitpicking but it really is the only thing that bothers me in the show, other than that. it's very awesome. Thanks for all the hard work and effort you put into it as well as the time you spend answering fans.

Greg responds...

I've dealt with this exact thing before here.

As for the translations, all I can say is we did the best we could. We consulted people fluent in Spanish and had Spanish speakers in the cast. If we got it wrong, I'm truly sorry, but it's not like we didn't try very, very hard to get it right.

As for the occasional "hermano", etc. that we slip in, you say NO ONE would do that. Except that I personally know people who do. PERSONALLY KNOW PEOPLE WHO DO.

Now, perhaps one difference, vis-a-vis, Jaime - as opposed to Bane - is that he was brought up bilingual. English isn't his second language. Both English and Spanish were spoken in his home - and often, as with some friends of mine, they were mixed and mingled into what I've heard termed Spanglish.

This explanation may not satisfy you, but that's the best I've got. And in any case, it's too late now for us to change even if we wanted to. It was all recorded long ago.

I realize by the time this is answered, everything might've resolved itself, but do you feel or think that some fans might feel that the opening to season 2 might be a jump the shark kind of move. In the first season these characters that were introduced created these relationships that as of right now are none existent, plus the childhood relationships from the original team. Now it seems like things are trying to follow the comics and the characters from the original season that were supposed to be adults but were made kid are now adults and the members of The Team that were always supposed to be kids will remain that way like Superboy and Miss Martian. I realize I may take a lot of heat for this from other fans but I am sure you like to know all views on your work. Don't get me wrong I am still a fan and will continue to watch and my feelings may change as more info is revealed, but as of right now this seems like it should've been a season 3 not season 2.

Greg responds...

We are no more nor less trying to follow the comics now than we did before. We have a story to tell. No one was jettisoned. Relationships develop, but they are hardly 'none existent'.

But the timeskip was planned from Day One. I don't for a second think we've jumped the shark. I do think we've upped the ante and the stakes and done something that few shows get to, which is truly show our characters grow and change.

You said, before the series started, that you made auditions only for the six first members of the Team (plus Superman, but just because you wanted the same actor to voice him and Superboy). So:
1)Have you made auditions for members of the Team that were introduced in Season One, outside the original six (Zatanna-Rocket-Bumblebee-Batgirl-Mal Duncan-Beast Boy-Lagoon Boy)?
2)Have you made auditions for members of the Team introduced in Invasion (Tim Drake-Blue Beetle-Wonder Girl)?
3)Have you considered hiring new voice actors to voice the now adults Nightwing and Batgirl (let's clarify: this is not a hate message against Jesse McCartney and Alyson Stoner, in fact I like them both a lot in both roles; I'm just asking if you've considered it)?

Greg responds...

1. No. Those people were CAST in their rolls... which then carried forward into Season Two.

2. We did hold auditions for Jaime/Blue Beetle/Scarab, Tim/Robin, Bart/Impulse and one other. But not for Cassie/Wonder Girl. From our previous Miss Martian auditions, we knew we wanted Mae Whitman.

3. Never seriously. Keep in mind, we pitched Jesse up slightly when he played Robin to make him sound a bit younger. So by NOT pitching him anymore, he now easily felt right as Nightwing. And Alyson was just directed to play her tougher and older, and she did - admirably. The only REcasting we did because of age was Billy Batson.

Dear Mr Weisman,

I have a question or two regarding the ageing of clones:

1. In YJ: Invasion, we see that Superboy hasn't aged much (if at all). Is this due to the fact that he's a clone (much like in the original comics)?

2. If the answer to the above is yes, how is it that the Roy Harper clone was able to age physiologically from 15 to 18 like a normal human?

3.If the answer to the first question is no, how old is Superboy physiologically in YJ: Invasion?

I finally want to thank you for creating such an awesome show. You've earned a fan in Singapore.

Greg responds...

1. That's only part of the reason.

2. He has no Kryptonian/Human DNA mix.

3. He's only not aging visibly. He's still aging.

Hello Greg.
Just wanted to say that I loved the first ep of season 2!!! It made me happy and sad at the same time; I loved Dick Grayson being the baby of the team but I also like Tim.
I couldn't stand that people were freaking out about old characters not being there and what happened five years ago and blah blah blah: I mean, seriously, were they expecting all that to be in episode ONE??? And I'm 15, some of those people ranting were in college. I was like, nice...real mature.
I seriously believe that you won't let us down and will keep this show amazing.
On Tumblr, a lot of people were seriously posting death threats targeted towards you and Brandon and I was like, people are retarded. Nuff said.
Questions!!! Not sure if you can answer these, but:
1. Does the team know Nightwing's ID?
2. How long has Dick been Nightwing? Tim as Robin?
3. Does Dick live in Bludhaven?
4. Is Dick in college?
5. What made Dick become Nightwing? Did you use the comic story, Dick and Bruce arguing etc?
Thanks so much and I really hope CN orders a season 3!!!

1. Some do, some don't.

2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.

I've been really curious about the eyebrow coloring in the show though. I noticed Wally, Wonder Girl, and a few other people have colored eyebrows to match their hair, but others don't. Is there any reason Miss Martian and Black Canary have black eyebrows?

I dunno. Sorry. Brandon and James show me the colors. If they look good, I say, "They look good." And they almost always look good. I don't analyze that too much. But you might ask Brandon this question.

1) What are Tim's strengths and weaknesses? There was a slight controversy over Dick possessing hacking skills, so I'm wondering how Tim translates onto to the show.

2) Would you consider Tim the better, or at least better-trained Robin? Sorry, I'm a big Dick Grayson fan, and a little sensitive over this issue. I love Tim as a character, though, and both characters were rendered well in the premiere.

3) Am I right in believing you and the rest of the staff have most of the longterm plot of the show planned already?

Greg responds...

1. I think I'll just let you discover this for yourself. But Tim still has his hacking skills.

2. I'm not big on the comparison thing. Dick is Nightwing, now. Older and WAY more experienced, but I think you've already seen that Tim is a strong character in his own right.

AHHHHHHH! The season 1 finale and season 2 premier just blew my mind.

I smell some serious Greg Weisman subterfuge (or perhaps suprafuge if you ask Robin).

I can remember my tiny heart breaking the first time I saw "Future Tense" on the Disney Afternoon. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Same goes for "Failsafe".

You're not getting me again. I am already preparing myself for this to be an alternate reality (even though I know you've said that is something you avoided in Gargoyles) or something. I may have spotted a small clue that affirmed this in the final scene's time stamp.

Not guessing, just looking forward to enjoying whatever you have in store.

Also, loved the Black Spider cameo. Very clever. Spectacular Spiderman was an awesome show and the new Ultimate Spiderman is GARBAGE. Just really, really bad.

My reviews on Nightwing, Robin/Tim Drake, Batgirl, Blue Beetle/Jaime Reyes, Lagoon Boy, Wondergirl and Gordon Godfrey after watching the very perfect "Happy New Year". BTW Greg don't listen to all those idiots who talk nonsense about the "Time Skip" and the new characters.

Nightwing and Robin/Tim Drake:
I didn't know I would be seeing those two guys very early in the show, but they both have great lines, personalities and costumes though. Plus they are both two of my most favourite DC heroes. I loved the conversions between those two. I also love the part where Robin teams up with Blue Beetle and Lagoon Boy.

Batgirl:
HA!!! I always knew Batgirl exists on Earth 16!!! I liked the part where she teams up with Wonder Girl. Great costume and I'm surprised that you gave her black coloured boots and gloves. She's one of my most favourite DC heroines. Would be great to hear some one-liner jokes from her though. And yes Greg, "she is all that!!!"

Blue Beetle/Jaime Reyes:
"That guy" and Batman: The Brave and the Bold is what got me into DC Comics in the first place. I love his costume, powers, Spanish quotes and jokes. His voice is so funny that I just simply laugh everytime he says a word. The part where he talks to his costume was also funny. I would love to see his girlfriend Traci 13 on YJ though, hopefully time will tell. Overall this is why Blue Beetle/Jaime Reyes is one of my most favourite DC heroes. Oh and congratulate his voice actor for making him so funny!!!

Lagoon Boy:
I'm not very familar with him, but I like his appearance, powers and voice.

Wondergirl:
I'm a huge fan of her outfit after watching the episode. But I really couldn't believe people on youngjustice.wikia are complaining about her shoes. Just don't listen to them Greg, I actually think her shoes are cute.

Gordon Godfrey:
Like Blue Beetle, his voice is so funny!!! I've actually never heard of him before. But I have heard of "Godfrey", it's an Australian company that sells vacuum cleaners.

My final thoughts:
All those characters that I've reviewed are now on my list of favourite YJ characters, I've watched "Happy New Year" at least 4 times now and I've actually told JM DeMatteis about Blue Beetle/Jaime Reyes on your show. Hopefully the rest of Season 2 will turn out perfect. Bye Greg!!!

The start to season two was awesome!!!!!!!

So many questions! This show is amazing and does not treat its viewers like kids. I appreciate that you give us intelligently scripted plots and it calls for patience and those who want their hands held and everything nice and cute and shippy...well go watch Nickelodeon. Five years has passed. People change and GROW up. This season has a sense that the show is growing up too and reflect that change. Miss Martian and Conner breaking up is actually the most understandable/realistic change in all of it. They were kids and they were not even normal teens. But it would be pretty cliche setting Lagoon boy as the fall guy so Conner can pine and Megan can pretend she doesn't care for Conner and we have a silly love traingle. Let them move on for goodness sakes. I loved seeing Nightwing leading the team and in time I am sure we will get the stories behind the changes. I sense he and Zatanna have a little vibe but again, maybe they moved on. They were kids too.

Wondergirl (she was awesome), Blue Beetle (so funny),Lobo (love that he got his bounty...he's a tough) Glorious Godfrey (yeeee Darkseid???) Batgirl, Tim Drake, Adam Strange...I love the new heroes and characters and curious to find out what happened to Kaldur, Artemis and Wally. What did the League do for those missing hours and why are they wanted. Oooh so exciting. I for one can't wait and it will be torture to have to wait a whole week...The shows are just not long enough.

So ignore the crybabies.

Hi Greg. I have tried my best to put my top concerns in to questions you can actually answer.

1) As seen in the season premiere, you have removed Wally, Artemis, and Kaldur as series regulars. Yet, Dick, M'Gann, and Connor (and Wolf) remain. Was this decision based upon favoritism, or was it a purely storytelling decision?

2) Why is it that the relationship between Wally and Artemis always seems to be the last thing you address? Is this just to torture us?

3)I'm a little miffed that Zatanna is off the team. She wasn't on the team for very long and never got as much development as she could have. I guess there's only so much screen time to go around when there are so many characters running around.

Greg responds...

1. LOL. Well, by now you know that we haven't removed anyone: just changed some of their roles. And all decisions are based on both story and staying true to the characters. We have no favortism, because honestly, we are really ridiculously fond of ALL the characters.

2. I don't agree with the premise of your question. But, again, storytelling dictated our decisions. Torturing you is just a side benefit.

3. Is there a question here?

Hi Greg,
I have some questions concerning Superboy's age. Call it too much time, but it's your fault, creating such an interesting character.
1. Since Superboy has never left his pod, I was wondering if he was 'born' in there as a new-born baby, and aged one year each week, or was he created as a teenage boy?
2. If the latter is true, does he age physically outside his pod? Because I couldn't really see much difference between the 2010-Superboy and the 2016-Superboy.

I live in a country where YJ isn't aired in television, but me and my sister are in tension each Saturday, waiting for the newest episode to be uploaded. And today's episode really overwhelmed us with the new characters and the time leap. Awesome.

I'm not exactly praising the first episode of Invasion that much, but remember one thing: it's Greg Weisman! He made Gargoyles, The Spectacular Spider-Man, the second season of W.I.T.C.H., and this incredible first season of Young Justice! This is all top-notch work, and one "bad egg" shouldn't change what you think of his work. Knowing how Greg works, I'm sure the rest of Invasion will be worth waiting for. If you don't like the first episode of Invasion (and I'm not saying it's a masterpiece or even anything that great), that's your issue, but please don't turn your back on Greg's top-notch work just for that. First and foremost, great writing. As an animation aficionado for many years, I continue to enjoy where things go, and how things unfold. Kudos for the time jump, I look forward to the "look backs" to see how things have unfolded to where we are today. (I'm assuming this look backs, of course, but I'm sure through the process, you'll have to explain how things went from A>B)

My questions have to do more with process and collaboration with DC.

1) With the reboot of the DC Comics, is it easier or more difficult to reach into DC history for storyline or character shaping? An example is in episode 2:1. Pulling Glorious Godfrey out of hallowed antiquity is very nice...many of your fans weren't even alive when "Legends" was published...and Kudos do Tim Curry. I will say, it sounded a bit like "The Voice of London" there for a moment (from "V") but, once I listened, you can hear ole Frank-N-Furter warming up...For me, he will always be Sir Gawain in "Prince Valiant" but I digress.

2) With the reboot, how much interaction do you have with Dan (Dido), Jim (Lee) et al...from the stand point so you can to reference the past without copying exact story lines, allowing the story to move in its own direction?

Thanks for you time.

1. As I've said MANY times before, the reboot to DC's NEW 52 had zero effect on us, because we were too far along by the time they told us about it. This is not a value judgement, by the way. It's just the fact. It was too late for us to make any changes based on New 52.

2. None with Dan or Jim. Our contacts are Geoff Johns, Mike Carlin and Sean Ryan. And again, reboot had nothing to do with nothing for us. Our story was our story.

Just saw "Happy New Year". I will admit it was kinda confusing with the timeskip, but it was worth the time. And Tim Curry as G. Gordon Godfrey was PRICELESS!!

1) What's it like working with Tim Curry again? Did you ever want him back on W.I.T.C.H. or Spider-Man?

2) What was Lobo saying in his original language?

3) What were the Kroloteans (is that correct spelling?) saying?

4) What are Zatanna's spells in Usual Suspects and Auld Acquaintance?

Greg responds...

1. ASKED AND ANSWERED.

1a. I always love working with Tim, but we need to match up the right role for him with his availability. (He's a busy guy.)

2. Some of the following language has been considerably toned down in translation from the original Interlac. For example, the word 'keezy' translates as 'little', but it has a WAY more pejorative connotation than that.

Also, we originally recorded nearly all of Lobo's dialogue in both English and Interlac so that we could decided later which we'd use with when. But I don't have immediate access to our final decisions handy, so I'll just give you all of it.

*Hahn Sho Lobo skahveyt-ka, ka SKAHvey keezy Krolo! [The Main Man can smell you, you stinkin' little Krolotean!]

*Ka ree? Ka REE? [Seriously?]

*Ka seh Hahn Sho Lobo, Krolo. Plee-ay suh frag. [Just you and the Main Man, Krolotean. Surrender or die.]

*Frag ka. [Die it is.]

*Ka ree? Keezy fem frag Hahn Sho Lobo? Ka ree? [Seriously? This little girl thinks she can take down the Main Man?]

*Keezy fem… [Little girl…]

*Rok tor keezy fem. [Planet of the little girls.]

*Frag-ka, Krolo. [Time to die, Krolotean.]

*SKAHvey Krolo… [Stinkin' Krolotean.]

*Hahn Sho Lobo lok toy. Keezy fem… ka rok, ka rok. [The Main Man's contract's complete. Little girls… your world's your world.]

*Vlash suh frag. [Shut up or die.]

3. With the exception of the fake Tseng's one line in Interlac (i.e. Plee-ay! Plee-ay! [I surrender!]), we didn't bother creating exact translations for the Krollish they were screeching. But I think you get the gist. (And, yes, it's spelled Krolotean.)

4. ASKED AND ANSWERED.

2. Jaime is 16.

3. Adam is 26.

4. Is Guy Gardner a member of the Justice League now?
5. Did the Justice League give a reason for Zatara not being a member anymore?

Greg responds...

1. Why WOULD they know?! <sigh> I think many folks have been brought up to think of their heroes as all-knowing and infallible. It makes me, I'll admit, a little crazy.

Okay, let's start here: the galaxy is HUGE.

The Green Lantern Corps attempts to cover it all, but their membership numbers in the thousands for a galaxy that is HUGE.

Rimbor is a planet largely inhabited by criminals, smugglers, etc. And the government of Rimbor isn't simply corrupt, it's INSTITUTIONALLY CORRUPT. In fact, it's CONSTITUTIONALLY CORRUPT. The Green Lantern Corps is NOT welcome on Rimbor. It's treaty with the GLC states that the Corps can only show up on diplomatic missions or when requested. No one on Rimbor would request the GLC to come - even with a rogue Lantern (plus five other Earthlings) wreaking havoc, because they don't want to give the Corps an excuse to look into Rimborian activities.

So, yes, over a five year period, word of the attack leaked out to the larger sector - and the six Leaguers were labeled as bad guys - but the significance of that may not have registered to the local Lantern, who (a) would be used to the Rimborians vilifying other Lanterns and (b) not understand the significance of Superman, Batman, Hawkwoman, Martian Manhunter and Wonder Woman being labelled as criminals.

Do you really think that every time a criminal is put on a watch list somewhere in the galaxy that every Lantern tells EVERY OTHER Lantern about it? That just makes no sense to me.

And that's assuming there's a Lantern in that sector AT ALL. Again, big galaxy, relatively small GLC.

2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.

3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.

4. Yes.

5. Who says he's not a member?

So! Now that Young Justice has started it's second season and we're heading more towards the Young Justice team as seen in the comics such as, Lagoon Boy (showed up once), Tim Drake, Superboy, Wonder Girl, Secret (Already featured in an episode), Arrowette (Who was also featured in the series but not as a hero). Im assuming that Impulse(Bart Allen) will be appearing soon as well. Comments?

Greg Weisman says:

"Superman's the strongest of the Leaguers. Icon, Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman are up there. Aquaman and a telekinetically enhanced Martian Manhunter and a Quantum-energized Captain Atom are close. I'd put Red Tornado, Hawkman and Hawkwoman just behind them. Neither Flash nor Plastic Man nor Zatanna nor Atom have super-strength, but their powers can sometimes give them more oomph. At the "bottom" are folks like Batman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Black Lightning, Rocket, though of course, they're all way stronger because of their training than the average human being. And of course, you have the Green Lanterns, who can use willpower and rings to mimic strength too - and maybe even top Superman when they're on their game. Same - in his own way - with Doctor Fate. I think that covers the whole League."

Hi Greg,

I really enjoyed the first episode of Young Justice: Invasion. I have a couple questions:

1. It seems that as team is still covert and being run by Nightwing. Would you consider the team as Earth-16's equivalent to the Outsiders?
2. What made you decide to not have the viewer hear Blue Beetle's suits discussions with Jaime?

Greg responds...

1. No.

2. It was funnier that way. And it put an audience member unfamiliar with Blue in the same position as the other characters like Robin and Lagoon Boy. But mostly it was funnier that way.

Hi Greg,

Let me first say that there are plenty of things about Young Justice that I really enjoy, but I don't want to waste your time by listing everything. I do have one question though:

In "Happy New Year!", when it's revealed what happened during the 16 hours that some league members were missing, it seems like no one had figured it out already. Are we really supposed to believe that Batman (the world's greatest detective) just gave up trying to figure out where he went? I mean, he had plenty of time to investigate it. Again, thanks for a great show!

Greg responds...

I don't think he "gave up", but Batman isn't omniscient. I honestly don't see how detective skills could have possibly led him to figure out that the answer was RIMBOR.

If people are saying you ruined Young Justice, I don't think you did, I'm more curious about the show more than ever. Love Tim's look, and attitude, and loving that Dick still isn't part of the League. I had a feeling that Bumblebee would be in it, Love that Cassie is Wondergirl, and Blue Beetle is funny when he's talking to the Scarab. Okay, now the big part.

I'm so glad Dick hasn't lost his personality over five years, but will we be seeing more of his wordplay in the future is my question (don't have to answer, will be following intensly.

I think the time skip was perfect, since and invasion like what was seen today could take a lot of planning, and Vandal has some kind of plan, I just know it.

Okay, my rant is over, but overall, I was WHELMED, but I couldn't take my eyes off the screen, so I guess I was OVERwhelmed. LOL, got in a bit of Dick's wordplay.

Can't wait for more, Greg, and thanks for a great show.

You're welcome.

1. In YJ, how old is Jaime Reyes? Let me guess he's the same age as Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon. Correct me if I'm wrong.

2. Was Jaime Reyes' popularity on Batman: The Brave and the Bold the reason why you included him on YJ?, or are there other reasons as well?

Greg responds...

1. You're wrong. Jaime's 15 at the beginning of Season Two, whereas Barbara is 18, and Dick is 19.

2. I'm sure B&TB didn't hurt, but it really wasn't a consideration.

YJ UPDATE

YJ UPDATE

SEASON ONE of YOUNG JUSTICE has all aired multiple times by now.

SEASON TWO/YOUNG JUSTICE INVASION
*Episodes 201-207 have already aired. 207 airs again this weekend, and then new episodes begin airing on Saturday morning September 29th as part of Cartoon Network's DC Nation block.
*Episodes 208-218 are all in the can. Finished. Done. Ready to air.
*Episode 219 is back here in Burbank, and we'll be calling retakes and locking picture this week.
*Episode 220 is due in from Moi late this week. That's right; we're really in the homestretch on Season Two now.

YOUNG JUSTICE COMPANION COMIC BOOK
*Issues #0-19 have all hit the stands and are available at comic shops or online.
*Issue #20 hits the stands this week. It's the start of a six-part story that is BIG. REALLY BIG. It updates the book, bringing in our Season Two cast, and is set one month prior to the start of Season Two with flashbacks to a couple untold - or only hinted at - tales from the Season One era, plus, by the end of the six-parter, a little story from immediately after Season One. Christopher Jones is just doing some stellar work on the book. And I'm pretty proud of the story and script, if I do say so myself.
*Issue #21 is being colored by Zac Atkinson as we speak.
*Issue #22 is being pencilled by Chris.
*Issues #23 & #24 are both fully scripted and waiting.
*Issue #25 is plotted. I'll be starting on the script tonight.
As always, you don't have to read the comic to enjoy the t.v. series or vice versa. But you get more out of BOTH if you watch/read both.

THE VIDEO GAME
Young Justice Legacy seems to be proceeding apace. I've done a bit of polishing on some of the dialogue to make sure it's consistent with the show.

ASK GREG
Will open again for reader postings on September 29th. Please follow all guidelines - and please, please, please DON'T FLOOD the queue. But please do post your responses to the comics that came out this summer when posting was not possible.

I think that about covers it.

Mr. Greg Weisman,

I must please ask out of utmost respect that this posting must not be deleted under any circumstances! After watching the season premiere of Young Justice: Invasion, I may have figured something out, and I wish for you to read this!

Five years have passed since the aftermath of the events of “Auld Acquaintance,” and it is clear that things have changed a great deal. When I realized there was a time-skip in this episode, my intial thought was that you might have made this move out of inspiration from the DC relaunch (ie. an origin story, like the Justice League in the relaunched comics, taking place five years prior). You must understand that it seemed reasonable for a time, because I believed for a moment that everything that happened in Season One seemed more like an origin story since there is a time-skip this season. However, while watching “Happy New Year,” and thinking about the time-skip some more, I have come to a possible conclusion and wish to ask you this: Is it possible the reason for the time-skip has something to do with the upcoming Young Justice: Legacy video game (coming in 2013, as I’ve read on the internet)? I might have asked questions about the game before in a prior posting, but now the time-skip seems to make sense and everything seems to connect. No other person prior to me might have asked you about it, but I believe that whatever happened within the unexplained five years might have something to do with whatever events will occur in the upcoming game, hence the game’s presented tagline, “One will Rise. One Will Fall. One will Die.” Is my deduction correct?

Thanks for taking the time to read this particular posting. It means a lot.

An Ask Greg Helper responds...

Greg Weisman says:

"We planned on this time jump from day one. Because we knew, again, that if our show's about growing up, then you can't show a character grow up in 6 months' time. So the idea is that our first season told 6 months from July 4th to January 1st. Our second season tells another 6 months from January 1st to July 4th, but there's a 5-year gap in-between that we planned.

Then when Warner Bros. and Little Orbit came to us and said, 'Do you want to do a game?' we're like, 'Great, because we've got this 5 year gap!' And we sat down and we talked about it, and we found this really significant event. I mean, obviously one game doesn't cover all 5 years. We found one really importnt event that took place during the 5 year gap, and that's the story that this game tells. So it's canon material, it's in-continuity with the series, "

Hey Greg,

Huge fan of Gargoyles back in the day and love the new series.

Question regarding the time skip between seasons 1 and 2 of Young Justice: Was it something planned since the show's conception, that YJ would be a story through the generations of this world of heroes? Or was it just a handy way to clear the boards for a fresh team?

Or to put it another way: Did you do a new team so you could have a time skip? Or do a time skip so you could have a new team? or a bit of both?

An Ask Greg Helper responds...

Greg Weisman says:

"While developing Season One, we had a solid idea of what we had in mind for Season Two - including the time skip. And we had/have solid ideas for Season Three, including another time skip."

"YOUNG JUSTICE COMIC BOOK
*Issues 0-16 are all on the stands, available at comic book stores or online.
*Issue 17 is done. I've already received my comp copies, and if you want a sneak peak this weekend, stop by my signing at Denver Comic Con. (More on this below.)
*Issue 18 is being inked.
*Issue 19 is being pencilled.
*THEN, starting with Issue 20, the book changes titles to YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION.
*Issues 20-25 are a big story: a six issue mini-series within the series. About 95% of the content is split between December 1st of Season One and five years later on December 1st, JUST before the start of Season Two.
*Issue 20 is scripted and ready for pencilling.
*Issue 21 is being scripted now.
*Issue 22-25 are all loosely plotted.

[All this has required some adjustments. The original plan was to finish all the stories set DURING Season One before rebranding the book. But TPTB at DC understandably decided that since the television show has already been rebranded, we shouldn't wait that long to rebrand the comic. And given that, I wanted to launch the rebranding with a BIG story that featured all - or nearly all - of the Team. So the Green Arrow, Black Canary, Artemis, Red Arrow story (set after episode 114), I originally had planned as a two-parter for issues 20-21 will have to wait. Given enough issues (keep buying those books people!), we'll get to everything eventually - including that Arrow-Family story. The new structure will use our timestamps to allow us to bounce back and forth (even within a single issue) from Season One to Season Two to the gap between seasons and BEYOND...]"

1. How much would say past cartoons like Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited influenced your work on, Young Justice?

2. Were the six Leaguers in "Auld Acquaintance" who were unaccounted for(Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Hawkwoman and John Stewart) a reference to the Justice League cartoon, since the show featured an near identical line-up, or was it just a coincidence?

Greg responds...

1. Batman's been a big influence since back in the Gargoyles days. Nothing specific, but it's probably still floating around in my brain. I'm less familiar with JLU, so I'm sure it's had less of an influence. I know early on we did some things intentionally differently to distance ourselves from that great show. But for example, the six Leaguers chosen to be missing for 16 hours was definitely influenced by the cast of the original Justice League series.

2. Yes. By now you probably realize that Flash was NOT included because we needed him back on Earth for our Impulse intro.
