If you're an American visting Canada who gets convicted of drinking and driving... yeah, they very well might tell you to never come back. And vice versa. After you've paid your fines and done the jail time, that is.

DPH > I accept your challenge, so here we go. "Gargoyles" to "Law and Order" in three easy steps. Jonathan Frakes / Marina Sirtis (Xanatos & Demona, "Gargoyles" / Riker & Troi, "ST:TNG") to Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher, "ST:TNG" / Joey Trotta, "Toy Soldiers") to Jerry Orbach (Albert Trotta, "Toy Soldiers" / Det. Lenny Brisco, "Law and Order").

hey everyone! I don't know if anyone would be interested in this, but I just started a Gargoyle online RPG. It's loosely based on the show, and I must admit that there isn't too much info on the site yet, since I just started it the other day. Please go and take a look and maybe join if it strikes your fancy. The RP will start once there are enough members. Anyway, enough blabbing, here's the link: http://groups.msn.com/GargoylesGuardiansofEdinburgh/_whatsnew.msnw

<ENTER LORD SLOTH>
Matt> Hey Matt, there's just been a lot of homework as the Semester nears the end (can't wait to go back home) and the chats here lately haven't drawn me in. The Legal drinking age here is 19 years old (yours is 21, right?) so if any of you are under age there, you're free to come north to get pissed. Just don't go driving back (my room mate says you get kicked out of the country if your caught driving, that true?).

So, how you doing Matt?

<ENTER LORD SLOTH>

Many Happy Returns of the yesterday Gabriel! I'd be lying if I said I completely understood what you said; how much Birthday Mead did you have man? But, at last we can see your true colors and hidden ambitions; I'd recommend that you don't conquer the earth or Slothaopia will be forced to retaliate against you, and I'd hate to do that (because then I'd never get those tapes from you :^). Don't worry though, my long term plans include getting Gargoyles into "mschools"; though you might want to talk with someone about your (I'm sure temporary) disagreement towards midgets.

It's talk like this that really encourages me to get drunk for the first time. I came of age last month, but I didn't bother to try because alcohol tastes worse then ashes, IMO.

Again, happy 21st Gabe. Take care of yourself, and your new dread locks.

I just posted a new Guardians fanfic, "Speed Demons." It's set at the Sterling Academy, when track star Dee Maza gets a real run for her money from new student Feral St. John, as well as the improved team from rival Diamond Academy. Not to change the subject (which seems to have withered as quickly as it blossomed), but . . .

I'm working on a story, and I need to know - the counterspell that was destroyed along with the original curse placed on Goliath and the others. Does anyone know how it went, in Latin or in English? Or does anybody at least have a theory about how it would have sounded? I ask this because I suck at creating spells ;) Thanks!

OK here's mine- "National Velvet" and Gargoyles: Mickey Rooney who starred in National Velvet, also starred in "The Black Stallion", which was co-written for the big screen by Melissa Mathison, who is Harrison Ford's wife, whose co-star in two of the Indiana Jones movies was John Rhys-Davies, who voiced MacBeth on Gargoyles.

I started to ask about the degree of separation of "Boston Public" to "Gargoyles" and the obvious answer clicked. So I have a different questions about degrees of separation: Gargoyles to Law & Order (current cast).

My own random degree of separation - Gargoyles and Elvis. Bill Fagerbakke was on Coach with Shelly Fabares, who starred in Clambake with Elvis (actually, I think she was in two or three Elvis movies). Broadway - the hunka hunka burnin' love.

Avalon fauna > The only effect constant exposure to Avalon's magic seems to have is that a powerful enough fay - like Oberon - can tap into the magic so as to manipulate the plants. If Katherine, Tom, and the Magus were there with the Eggs for 40+ years without being attacked by the trees, that seems to be a fair indicator that the plant life on Avalon doesn't behave strangely unless someone wants it too.

Random trivia time...

"Gargoyles" to "That 70s Show" in one degree of separation: Thom Adcox (voice of Lexington) appeared in the film "Under Seige 2", playing a computer technician who had scenes with an Army general played by Kurtwood Smith, who now stars as Red Forman on "That 70s Show."

The same connection, BTW, will also get you "Gargoyles" to "Robocop" in one step. ;)

Airwalker - <But how long of a World Tour would it give them if this was the route that Greg went with? It would be something like a year or two wouldn't it? That might be too much of a time stretch - it wouldn't be like filling in the time between AVALON 3 and PENDRAGON for Arthur - it could be a significant amount of time.> According to the archives, I'm going to speculate that Jade & Turquesa made it home by the time of "The Journy". I really wish I could discuss my theory about that return trip home, but I'm in a slight pickle about discussing it right now. <The part about Zafiro stuck pretty clearly in my head but I didn't remember that part about Jade and Turquesa.> The part about Jade and Turquesa stuck in my head and I didn't remember Zafiro being mentioned so we're even.

Now that I have a copy all of the Gargoyle episodes, I can't wait to participate in the DCVs. Any ideas on when the next one is.

DPH - My mistake. The part about Zafiro stuck pretty clearly in my head but I didn't remember that part about Jade and Turquesa.

(And actually it might be a much easier way to deal with the Guatemala Clan and the Sun Amulet. Its a bit more complicated to get Zafiro to Manhattan than it is to get Jade and Turquesa. But how long of a World Tour would it give them if this was the route that Greg went with? It would be something like a year or two wouldn't it? That might be too much of a time stretch - it wouldn't be like filling in the time between AVALON 3 and PENDRAGON for Arthur - it could be a significant amount of time.

I think that I'd like to have it be Zafiro come to Manhattan to get the Amulet even with the difficulty of giving him a way to know that its there and in actually getting him to the city itself. It would set some interesting family stories for Zafiro 2198 to have passed onto him and it could open up the "secret" of who actually owns that stretch of forest. It would be an interesting way to bring in another Renard story.)

GREG BISHANSKY - You wrote: [Some how I don't think the magic would harm those trees, I mean it seems to have no affect on the mortals who eat the fruit that grows there, so I think they would be fine.]

True. I was just trying to bring up the idea that it could be possible that magic might have some effect on everything living and growing on Avalon. Doesn't have to mean anything bad or good for either the transplanted trees or Gargoyles. Only that there is another factor in influence in the Avalonian environment. Still I can't help but feel that there has to be some effect to a constant exposure to magic. I keep thinking of it in terms of radiation almost; something has to be happening even if its not a bad or dangerous thing, even if it might be neutral.

You wrote: [As for Oberon, I don't think he'd mind, or even give it much thought.]

True; I was thinking along the lines of fickle royalty perhaps wanting to put something in the spot where they planted and not caring about the trees or why they were put there. Or perhaps them not having the same aura of Magic as the rest of the Avalonian Environment sort of killing his view of the island.

BABS - You wrote: [I was also wondering how Zafiro knew that the amulet was in N.Y.]

Well if Broadway still has it then its possible that he's shown it to Angela or tried to give it to her as a gift. In which case she would have gone through the trouble of trying to contact Zafiro and having him come to pick it up. (Or alternately when everything settled down after HUNTERS MOON and the Clan had time to sort through everything Elisa gathered from the Clocktower then Goliath would have spotted the Amulet and put two and two together. Then with a little help from him new multi-billionare resource it would easy to get Zafiro to NYC to pick it up.)

From the Ask Greg Archives:

Pamber writes...

have jade and turquesa returned to guatemala from avalon yet? did they go on adventures wherever avalon sent them?

Greg responds...

Yes. Yes.

* * *

F.A writes...

Whatever happened to the Guatamalan Sun Amulet? The last time we saw it Broadway was holding it when he turned to stone.

Greg responds...

Broadway still has it. But eventually I would have had Zafiro come and get it. (Or maybe Jade & Turquesa en route back from Avalon.)

The does help with the plant issue and danke Airwalker for helping me with my next boggle, since how would the plants conintue to live there. I figure that the plants would listen to Oberonn since they are in his dirt. I was also wondering how Zafiro knew that the amulet was in N.Y., only 2 ppl knew what it was and where it was, I highly doubt that Jackel and Hyena would tell the gargoyles where it was, as for Broadway having it, he didn't even know what it was let alone knew to it belonged to.

DPH - You wrote: [Along the way, they made a stop in NYC to pick up the Mayan Sun Amulet.]

Actually according to the Archive they have some adventures and return to Guatemala. But they don't actually come to NYC. Zafiro later independently comes to NYC to retrieve the Sun Amulet.

BABS - You wrote: [What I'm wondering how did they know that they would go back there, and how would them 2 get back to Guatemala. It never really went that far into it, and I was just wondering about it.]

They got their own sort of World Tour although I'd personally lean towards it being a short run (i.e. One or two small adventures and then stumbling across where they actually wanted to be). I'm sure that Goliath and Company let them in on the whole "Avalon sends you where you need to be" when they were deciding to make the trip so Jade and Turquesa knew what they would be in for.

What I really wonder is how exactly would Zafiro later on learn where the Sun Amulet is and how he would get to NYC. Also why everyone (i.e. Goliath and Company) is so sure that the plants that Jade and Turquesa are bringing to Avalon are going to thrive. There isn't really any guarantee especially once those two leave and stop actually tending to it.

(On top of that who knows what Oberon is going to think about the whole thing once he gets back - those plants wouldn't be of Avalon and might not obey him the same way everything else growing on Avalon was doing in ILL MET BY MOONLIGHT. Read the Ask Greg Archive. Jade and Turquesa eventually returned to Guatamela, by the time of the Gathering. Along the way, they made a stop in NYC to pick up the Mayan Sun Amulet.

Baba> The fact is the two that went to Avalon and did not intend to come back. Elisa even said that they (not going to try for the names lol) would go and see that the samples thrived and grew well the others stayed behind to continue to protect the forest there. They had no promise that Avalon would sent them back but to them it did not matter. *grins* Hope that helps.

Great I tried to get in line, but it seems I lost track of time since last night I was downloading every Billy Idol and AC/DC song I could get my slimy little hands on, then I fell asleep. I'll try next week.

But since I'm here let me boggle some minds. In the episode "The Green" the gargoyles there were there to protect the jungle but at the end when (sry if I get thier names mixed up) Turquesa, and Jade went with Goliath to bring some of the plants to Avalon to grow, but what I'm wondering how did they know that they would go back there, and how would them 2 get back to Guatemala. It never really went that far into it, and I was just wondering about it.
