Sorry for killing the room. Today, I noticed Greg Weisman answered a question about a DVD release for Gargoyles (question was posted Saturday, October 27, 2001).

It looks as if he's starting to find more time for it at last.> I'm not counting chickens before they hatch. < It's starting to really look hopeful for his being able to catch up on that terrible backlog.> I would hope Greg Weisman is looking forward to reading episode rambles again and would suspect that's a factor in speeding up. I'm still counting on a committee to sort out all the previously answered questions from the archive to really speed things up.

Not that I am complaining, but how is progress on the technical end for setting up a structure to allow a committee to handle the previously answered questions?

Todd:

I only thought of it because both wanted revenge against their enemies except that Dantes was just in the wrong place/wrong time (plus it didn't help that he was naive and gullible). I think Demona forced the circumstances that led to the Wyvern massacre and partially at fault (though it will be hard to get through her wall of denial) but places the full blame on the humans.

Still, I now wonder if they may have met at some point?

As I recall, the spelling was "Edmond" (though it's been years since I read "The Count of Monte Cristo") - I hadn't thought of Demona in connection with him, but there is a similarity there (except that Dantes wound up feeling troubled over the consequences of his quest for vengeance, and Demona hasn't).

And, yes, these redundant questions are turning into a problem. It does appear that there are too many people out there who just won't read the FAQs.

Todd:

Now we just need a way to keep all the basic repetive questions from clogging the Ask Greg section.

From an earlier post, I'm curious what Greg would have done with Edmund/Edmound Dantes from the Count of Monte Christo (not sure which spelling his first name is).He and Demona would have a couple of things in common,if I remember the story correctly.

Demona Taina> I use a Canopus ADVC-100 converter box to get video to my computer. All you need is a firewire card to connect the box to your computer. No drivers, no software to install. Hook the cords up and everything works. This wonderful little box is a little pricey tho. Cost me $200 used off of eBay. I think it regularly goes for $300 US tho. I researched this site extensively before I bought anything. www.vcdhelp.com

Wonderful site for people wanting to create their own vcds, svcds, or dvds. You have to have a pretty powerful computer with lots of hard-drive space. A captured AVI file of one gargoyles episode takes up 4.5 GB on my system. After I encode it, it goes to 400-420 MB.

Gotta go get some tapes for tomorrow's power pack. ^_^

ENIGMA - "Les Miserables" started off as a book written by Victor Hugo, but was later adapted into a musical for the stage; I will confess that I've neither read the book nor seen the musical, although I've heard of both. And I've enough general knowledge to recognize who Jean Valjean is.

I did find Greg Weisman's revelation of interest in that it marked the first time that I knew of where a fictional character from a period after Shakespeare's was literally real in the Gargoyles Universe, as opposed to simply being mentioned (like Sherlock Holmes in "The Hound of Ulster") or having an "echo" (like the Frankenstein monster with Coldstone). So that remark does allow for the possibility of other fictional characters from periods after the 16th century to be real in the Gargoyles Universe - for all that we know, maybe such figures as Don Quixote, Robinson Crusoe, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Jekyll, Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, Captain Ahab, Ebenezer Scrooge, and the Three Musketeers were also real in the Gargoyles Universe. Of course, short of the series getting relaunched, we'll never know for certain.

(Admittedly, even before Greg first mentioned Jean Valjean - that was back in October 2001, as I recall - as existing in the Gargoyles Universe, we did know that Dracula was real in that world as well. But Dracula doesn't fully count as a creation of the 19th century, being based in part on the historical 15th century eastern European ruler Vlad Tepes or Vlad the Impaler, so that didn't fully count in my eyes.)

Rac>> Les Miserables is a pretty well known play and (I believe) a book as well. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong). As far as how much of everything Greg would have included I'm guessing just about every relatively well known "thing" that's public domain. Although I don't think some things would be much more than a reference since everthing is a lot of stuff.

Reba "Jade" Lee>> Yeah, I know what you mean about trying to get conversation going. The other week I tried, but it didn't work so well. I asked people what character they would have wanted to see or see more of. It got some responses, but not a lot. Anyway as far as Puck goes, I like him. He was a very interesting character and it was always a fun episode when he showed up. And as far as weird couples...hmm...Jon Castaway and Elisa Maza (totally impossible I know. I actually shudder at the thought).

Jimmy>>Great idea!!

Battle Beast>> Score!! Lucky you:) I was thrilled when I found the tapes that I have. I couldn't understand why the video store wouldn't want them. Atleast I have them now:0

Just checked Ask Greg and Greg mentioned having a Jean Valjean in the Gargoyles universe. Who is this person? (I'm not familiar with "Les Miserables." I seriously need to get back to reading again).

Now that I think of it, I wonder how much of "everything" Greg Weisman would have put in? Any ideas?

HEY!

I was lucky enough to find all four VIDEO's four $3 (What is it? $2 down there?) brand new, but not the movie. :(

Last night I was at our goodwill store looking for a good book (They sell 'em cheap; I picked up Deloris Caliborne by Stphen King) aned I found a tail and Wingless (no pun intended) Hundson, as well as an applause Brook and Demona. At least I think it's one. Got 'em all for $1.25 (What is it? about 75¢ down there?)

PUCK> I would like to see him help the Gargoyles more. (Could Alex do some kind of Travel/warp lesson to allow Goliath and Co. to visit Japan or Gautamala?

Or maybe Puck could somehow fandangle REAL Garg bodies for Cold's Fire and Stone? Make them turn into real gargs at night the way Demona turns human at dawn?

That would be cool.

Nickerous: Well, I have all 78 episodes in two languages. I have the uncut versions from the Spanish station, FOX, and WB. I also have the cut versions from USA Network and Toon Disney. You could say that I have each and every single episode on tape. Thirty tapes in all! The only problem is the quality, though. They're all in EP/SLP mode. How do you copy them to your computer in MPEG format? I'm dying to be able to do that.

I am new here, so please forgive me if this has already been discussed. As I stated last week, I've just started taping Gargoyles off of Toon Disney. I have a satellite and the resulting video (taped in SP mode) looks really good. Then, I take that video, port it into my computer, convert it to mpeg-2, and write it out to cd-r. I can view these on my dvd player. When I convert it, the process cleans up the video so that it looks like dvd quality. The only time you realize it's not dvd is when there is a lot of action. Since Disney is just now getting around to releasing a Gargoyles dvd (and unless it is the 5-part awakening, I'll be dissappointed....I haven't heard officially, but I expect it to be the movie version of awakening), boxed seasons are beyond my hopes at this point.

I do have original episodes that aired back in 1994-96 on tape, but they are in EP mode and have suffered greatly over the years. A couple episodes have lost sound completely.

My question is: Do any of you guys have original episodes and what format are they? Recently, I learned that all of the episodes were not edited for Toon Disney. Some are actually the same as the were when they originally aired. That's a good thing. :D

After I finish with Toon Disney, and taking a few original episodes, I'll have most of the series complete and uncut. Eventually, I'm going to make my own dvds of this series, but not until the blank dvds come down in price.

*sigh* A boxed season 2 would be outstanding.....

Since I quoted Puck, I was wondering what you guys thought about him. He seems like a marvelous character with lots of different faces and ideas. His human form and fae form are cute, and he's one of the most interesting and humorous characters in my opinion. Here's another weird thought, Puck and Demona. Impossible? Weee! First *hops around*

The Goliath Chronicles: There were a few episodes I liked. The Journey was pretty good, as was Dying of the light(other than the hudson angle, I liked the fact that Angela reaches out to the wounded P.I.T. crew members.
One of the key reasons this season suffered is that(for those who don't know, deciding on a third season was left to the last minute by Disney, which is one of the reasons Greg W. bowed out of it. He knew things would be overly rushed and the quality was going to suffer as a result. In fact, this is the only time Disney has farmed a project out to Nelvana(here in canada) to animate. Truthfully, though the company has the potential to do wonderful animation, TGC certainly wasn't one of their highlights. In fact, Nelvana was supposed to do all 13 episodes, and even they didn't have the time to do them all, so the last couple of episodes were handled by other animation studios(If i remember right "Seeing Isn't Believing" was handled by Disney Australia-which explains why that, although the animation movment was stunning, all the character models were off big time. I forget which company did the final ep of season 3).

Strangely enough, that third season of Gargs, though partially Canadian made, has never been rebroadcast here since it originally aired. For some reason, family channel was unable to get the rights to it. Likely cause Nelvana is owned by Corus entertainment-which owns a number of other stations in Canada(YTV for example)-of which family channel is not one of. GO figure.
