As for your question, you know, it's pathetic, I just watched that episode yesterday and I don't know, but five seems to stick out in my mind for some odd reason.

Kaena: The Prophecy is a new feature film created entirely in 3D (much like Final Fantasy) using off-the-shelf products.

There's a Computer Graphics World article on the movie here: http://cgw.pennnet.com/Articles/Article_Display.cfm?Section=Articles&Subsection=Display&ARTICLE_ID=174585

I mention it for two reasons. First, it's got a cool style to it. It looks interesting and is certainly worth a look.

Second reason is that it sounds that Kieth David, voice of Goliath, has a role in the English dub of the film. You can see and hear for yourself in the first of four movie clips available for download from the site. The clip in question is located at: http://www.kaena.lycos.fr/mov_en/Extrait4/Extrait_4_1600k.mov

Yes, it is sad to realize that Saturday Morning Cartoons are a thing of the past, but I wouldn't call these dark days for animation fans.

You've got the Cartoon Network that still runs Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Smurfs (maybe? do they still run this one?), and giving us new series like He-Man.

You've got dvd versions of Batman: The Animated Series, X-Men Evolution, Justice League, Super Friends (all of these got new discs out there this month!), Spider-Man, Battle of the Planets (how cool is that!), Batman Beyond, and Beast Wars.

You've got boxed sets of the original Transformers, Robotech, and Gundam.

You've got Disney bringing out their impressive animated movie collection to dvd (now 2 movies a year). And most importantly, a GARGOYLES dvd in the works (supposedly....I still won't believe it till I see some confirmed cover art).

Still though, it is dishearting to know that the children to come will never know that urge to wake up early on a saturday morning to catch their favorite cartoons. Ahh, nowadays, kids would just set the vcr timer and sleep in anyway. ^_^

Jimmy:

"The toys and games associated with a children's program can be more important than the program itself."

Sigh. No wonder why a lot of cartoons have cruddy storylines/plots, stupid characters, and hardly any quality in plot and animation. Business seems to be concerned with milking a show for all its worth without first making the show decent, much less enjoyable to watch.

"As the advertisers and the broadcasters and the techno-wizards who come up with these devices get together, they will discover a way for everyone to make their money. There will be some kind of sponsorship associated with shows. For example, at the bottom of the TV screen, it might say, 'Sony,' with a banner running across outlining new Sony products." Television may return to having specific products sponsor a show: for example, in a decade one may watch Kellogg's Cornflakes Proudly Presents The Simpsons."

I really hope I don't have to see a show being presented by some company that is completely unrelated to the show.

""Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, at the height of its success, was never even comparable to the average primetime show. One hour of primetime generated the same profit as the entire Saturday morning lineup."

Umm, there were more adults than children populating the earth at the time. Of course an average primetime show would have more viewers.

It seems rare to have a really good cartoon/animation show, in terms of good storyline/characterization/etc., that also sells well so businesses would keep airing it. Apparently the only avenue to get a well-thought out story in this day and age are books.

Pity Greg Weisman. He's got a whole batch of questions coming up in the queue about "Would so-and-so [various legendary/literary figures] have appeared in 'Gargoyles'?" It's a shame that whoever asked those questions didn't pay attention to Greg's statement "With enough time and episodes, everybody would have gotten in."

Although the choice of people that the person asked about was interesting. It included Roland and his fellow paladins from Charlemagne's court, characters from Edmund Spenser's "Faerie Queene", Don Quixote, and characters from the works of Charles Dickens. Quite a literate assortment.

(Actually, a few "Faerie Queene" figures did make it into "Gargoyles" already; King Arthur (whom the questioner mentioned) was one, and Talos was another. Also, the heroine of the first book of the "Faerie Queene" is named Una and there was a recurring villain, an evil wizard named Archimago (which sounds like an Italianized version of....). Not to mention that the faerie queen of the title, Gloriana, was mentioned by Spenser as being Oberon's daughter and successor (although actually Spenser's Oberon was designed as an idealized version of Henry VIII - idealized as in no mention of beheading his wives - in the same way that Gloriana is an idealized Elizabeth I).

While I always could easily believe that the Twelve Peers of Charlemagne and figures from the "Faerie Queene" could get into the Gargoyles Universe, a few years ago I'd have been sceptical about Don Quixote or Dickens's characters. But after what Greg Weisman said about Jean Valjean, their existence in it isn't quite so improbable. (And actually, Shakespeare and Cervantes were contemporaries, so if Shakespeare's characters can get in....)

Cassie> I have a lot of questions myself, but maybe in a week or so we can try yours.

Jimmy> Yah. It's sad, alright. There are no more *good* shows out. In my city, Edmonton, we get channelsas follows:
2 (CTV, Candian TV), 4 (CBC, Canadian Broadcasting Company), 7 (A-Channel), and 8 (Global) as *Canadian* channels. 3 (NBC), 6 (CBS), 28 (FOX), 33 (TBS), and 46 (ABC). On Staurdays on CTV, Global, and maybe NBC and CBS, there are only morning news shows. On TBS, it's movies. On CBC it's sports, ALL DAY. On A-Channel and Fox, there are Cartoons, but they severly lack where it counts.

You know, I was thinking, not to steal your thunder or anything....but maybe it'd be less taxing on you and potentially flow a bit faster if the trivia questions went in a round. Oh well, the idea of six episodes of Gargoyles every Thursday was fun while it lasted. I think we now know why TD felt it was worth doing a marathon (which I thought was a little silly when you have mini-marathons every Thursday anyway. Of course the plus side to the marathon is that the eps are in order). I wonder if between now and the DVD release, we will see Gargoyles disappear from Toon Disney entirely. They might reason that the DVD would sell better if the episodes were no longer accessible on television.

I am going to post this again so more people see it.

I had an idea to get some life in here... I was going to start a "trivia" game, just for fun, whereby I would ask a question (easy and hard answers) and someone would answer. The first correct answer would get points based on the value of the question (Easy = 1, Medium = 2, Hard = 3. (I would keep a running tab of all points.) Any one interested in playing?

After two questions, DEMONA TAINA and DPH are tied with two points each.

Here is the third question...

I will probably post weekly results on friday.
