The only time they mentioned bathroom functions? I can't remember which episode, but didn't Matt walk by a bathroom and ask if Elisa was in there? Or was it even a bathroom? It's been a long time since I've seen it.

When I saw that part I was reminded of something I saw on "Blossom" when I was a kid. Blossom and her friend were wondering why no one on tv goes to the bathroom. One of them mentioned a few programs where it was mentioned. These happened to be bit hit tv shows (Rosanne, Cheers, etc). Blossom said, "Hey. I think we just figured out the secret to good tv." Her friend said, "What it it?" Blossom started to say something and her friend said "Hold that thought I have to go to the bathroom."

Great comments on Hudson, both Battle Beast and Matt; I thought that this episode showed that he wasn't quite so washed-up as he appeared (or as he feared). I might add that one of Goliath's particularly admirable qualities is the way that he looks up to Hudson. In 984, Demona is arguing that Hudson ought to step down in favor of somebody younger; Goliath points out that Hudson's age gives him wisdom and experience rather than weakness, and even when he does have to take over from Hudson, still keeps the older gargoyle by his side as a trusted advisor. Goliath brings Hudson along with him in pursuit of the Vikings because he trusts Hudson's experience (and his tracking skills), and again in "Long Way Till Morning". He even makes Hudson his first choice for a second-in-command in "Upgrade". Not to mention his refusal to leave Hudson behind, even when the old gargoyle asks him to, after the clock tower is destroyed in "Hunter's Moon".

(In light of all this, I think that it would have been neat if they'd someday done a scene where Goliath gets a glimpse of the human custom of stuffing the elderly in homes and is absolutely appalled at it.)

One little bit about "The Price", by the way, that amuses me; Hudson calls the Cauldron of Life an "oversized chamberpot". I think that that's the only time in the entire series that they ever made any reference to "bathroom functions". (They probably were able to get it past S&P because of the archaic nature of chamber-pots. I remember reading once that a few of the writers on "X-Men" had wanted Mystique and Destiny to be in a same-sex relationship but the higher-ups had forbidden it; however, the writers still managed to sneak in a mention of Destiny being Mystique's "leman" and get away with it because of the archaicness of the word. Presumably the "chamber-pot" mention was allowed for the same reason.)

The Price> one of my favorites as well. the animation is beautiful! the most awesome thing about this episode is that it doesn't just tell the characters that Hudson has a place in the Clan and isn't useless, it also shows us that. so often Hudson is left at the Clocktower watching tv while the others are off having adventures. this episode shows Hudson to be a capable and wise warrior. i mean, he single-handedly "defeated" Xanatos and Owen and even managed to teach him a lesson in the process.
I love how Hudson spreads his wings and shields the Trio from the MacBot. it isn't mentioned in the episode, but i think it needs to be remembered that Hudson is a rookery father to the whole Clan (except Bronx) and he sure acts like a good father here.
he is mourned like a good father also. i love how everyone mourns over him and worries about him and how Goliath even considers trying to convince Demona! to help Hudson. they love him, hes their rookery father and really the (grand)father to the entire Clan, including the Avalon Clan. makes me again wish that Hudson could have met the Avalon Clan and seen katherine and Magus again, who he obviously had a unfortunate relationship with.

i think the World Tour would've been made alot more interesting had Hudson been along, but Brooklyn would've had an even rougher time without Hudson... plus i don't know if the skiff would hold everybody! :) makes me wonder how the trio would've been without Hudson AND Goliath...

Hey!

THE PRICE> I love this episode for many reasons.

1) "The Price" shows us what humans really think of the elderly... as doddering old fogies who don't know anything and can't do any but solve crosswords and watch "Wheel of Fortune".

Xanatos wants Hudson to "test" the cauldron because he belives he's usless to his clan. Not true.

Hudson is far from "old." He is EXPERIANCED. WISE.

Native Americans valued their elderly because they were the ones that tought the old ways of life; stories about their belifs (GODS), how to hunt, Etc. The wisemen of the tribe were the storytellers who passed down the ledgends and stories.

When the white man came to the new world, they brought disease, which desimated the elderly population. With so many elderly deaths, much of the olds ways not yet passed on down the line were lost.

Much is the same with the Gargoyles. Hudson is the last of the "old" generation. All of his siblings were destroyed, so only he can pass on the stories of the old ways.

Xanatos looks like one of those who would just throw thier old relative in a "home" rather than take the time to care for them. Maybe not with his father, though.

2) Hudson isn't stupid, either, and this point is showed very well. He uses his own skin to free himself, and he shows Xanatos a thing or two. Now Xanatos doesn't make the same mistake twice, so he won't try to "use" Hudson agian.

3) Another thing I like about "The Price" is that they showed that, at sunrise, a Gargoyle could be in very real danger. This is shoen when Broadway, being chased by the MacBeth robot, turns to stone in mid-flight. Elisa has only seconds to save him.

This serves to state a great point that no matter how internal their insticts, how much they know that sunrise is comming, not every Gargoyle is going to be safly on a perch a sunrise.

4) Lastly, the look Goliath gives Hudson after Macbeth throws the Sparkly Dust on him. I call the look "quizzical"
but it's definatly weird. I love it.

That's My Two Cents.

How odd... I tried to post yesterday but I guess it didn't go through.

Happy B-day Todd,

Greg W. Welcome back and thanks for the info on the Ask Greg process. I hope someone posts the plan you mentioned, my curiousity is all pique'd now *^_^*

Gathering Journals and Rambles, maybe there could be a different page for things that are not questions, so late Journals and other people's rambles, jokes, contest answers, etc could be left whether the question submit function is active or inactive.

Well I finally got rid of my digital cable tv service. Now that I have DVD recordings of Gargoyles from Toon Disney, there really isn't a reason to keep it. Cutting costs early to try and spare a nest egg for next year's Gathering, should I have the opportunity to go. Anyone else saving now to play later?

till later

1. Bad spelling. Well, two years ago, my spelling wasn't... well..."that" good. As you see I live in germany. My spelling has improved A LOT from the to now, so looking at my old posts makes a bit ashame of back then... ;)

2. Yup, every user should be able to erase his own questions in time.

3. Can't you mail Greg so that HE maybe could erase them??? One of the questions was about if he REALLY was faitfull about getting the show back... well, now, with the DVD comming out, everyboy is REALLY Positive about that stuff, so it is QUITE out oof time...

As for forwarding... well, they're still in the Que, I think...

However, Happy Birthday afterwards. Seems I have been a bit late...

No apology is needed, people; I wasn't that bothered by your comments. (If I was bothered at all, it was over the fact that too many questions in the queue seem to be about topics that Greg has explained several times over or are ridiculous questions - or on a level of very poor grammar and spelling. These last really make me worry about the educational system in this country.)

Watched my tape of "The Price" today. I still think that this episode was a lot of fun with its misleading the audience:

1. We think that Macbeth turned Hudson to stone. And it obviously wasn't difficult to mislead us in that direction because we'd already seen the Magus do it with the gargoyles back in "Awakening", so that we knew it was possible.

2. We think, when Macbeth "comes back from the dead", that it was thanks to his link with Demona (assuming that we hadn't already figured out that he was a robot - see below.)

I didn't pick up on Macbeth's repetitive dialogue, but I did get suspicious over his proclaimed motive. Hunting gargoyles for trophies sounds more like the sort of thing the Pack would do; Macbeth struck me as somebody who'd have a much bigger reason for attacking the clan. So it made sense to me when it turned out to be a lifelike robot.

Xanatos was as entertaining as ever - I particularly get a big kick out of his means of acquiring a piece of Hudson's stone skin, accompanied by "There, now, that wasn't so hard, was it?" (Also the bit where he tosses Hudson's sword up in the air and catches it neatly.) And Owen's hand turning to stone at the end gave me quite a start (though you've got to admit that it's better than being turned permanently into an anthropomorphic aardvark.:) ).

I'm probably one of the extremely few Gargoyles fans who didn't see a contradiction between Hudson describing Macbeth as immortal and believing that Goliath had killed him. (Maybe because I understood that by immortal, Hudson was talking about what J. R. R. Tolkien called "serial longevity", rather than being immune to death by any means, including death in battle.)

I found myself suddenly thinking, when I saw this episode today, that Elisa's saving Broadway's life was almost a reversal of "Deadly Force"; there, Broadway seriously injures Elisa with a gun, and here, Elisa saves Broadway's life with a gun.

Hey guys,

Just stopped by to let you know that I've been out of town. Part of last week on business. Part of this week on a family vacation.

I also would love it if people would lay off Todd a bit re: ASK GREG. He does not have a tremendous degree of flexibilitiy there. He does not have free reign or control at the site. Gorebash has created a program that was designed to be idiot-proof -- for my sake. Todd literally CANNOT delete questions that he has already approved. Todd also has specific instructions from me as to what he should and should not let through. I'm currently not inclined to change those instructions. Even the questions Mooncat posted hardly change my mind. Though I don't necessarily disagree with her assessment, some of the questions seem perfectly legitimate. For example, Bodhe's birth and death dates, etc.

I have, more than once, posted the six-point plan I'd like to use to change ASK GREG. (If someone wants to repost it as a reminder, that'd be great.) But implementing that plan is dependent on the kindness and freetime of Gorebash. Not Todd. And I wouldn't be so quick to yell at Gore either. I am grateful that he's provided us all with the site. Anything else is gravy.

Please understand that I am VERY aware that there are problems with ASK GREG. I'm hardly thrilled with the year and a half backlog or the quality/quantity of some of the questions.

But until Gorebash has the time (and I am not going to pressure him, just sort of pray) to implement the changes that I've requested, we're stuck.

The only thing I'd recommend, since I assume that everyone who's going to has already posted their Gathering Diaries, is that we temporarily cut off the submit function until I get around to Rambling on episodes again. But that too is something only Gore can do. Not Todd.

I was standing at my window about twelve minutes ago when what ashould I spy? A group of many people sttodf on my busy street corner, started jumping and flinging their arms around, and chanting "Gargoyles, Deamons chimpanzees!" it lasted three minutes, and they left.

So this is a "Flash Mob" huh? Weird.

Well, I sent my e-mail off to Greg about the problem this morning; haven't heard back from him as yet. He seems to have less free time now, since he only answered questions on Thursday and Friday last week, and it looks as if it'll be the same this week. Apparently he must be very busy on something for Disney (or whoever he's working for at the moment) - maybe that series that he mentioned (according to the Gathering reports) planning for either Disney or WB at the Gathering 2003?

At any rate, I do wish that we could get the message across to those people out there that by constantly asking already-answered questions, they're slowing down the queue immensely. This is what happens when some fans become too lazy to read the archives, I suppose.

Since today's my birthday, I decided to watch another "Gargoyles" episode as a little treat - "The Cage" this time. I don't have anything new to say about it, but I still get a kick out of some of the lines in it, particularly Sevarius's and Xanatos's. Such as:

"Nothing is so annoying as someone watching over my shoulder. [Reminiscent of Sevarius saying to Xanatos in "Metamorphosis", "Don't you have some junk bonds to sell?"] Oh, wonderful, now there's two of you."

"He's the scientist. You're just the experiment. Oh, hello, Goliath, almost didn't see you there."

One thing that I like about this is the way that they made the Mutates into distinct individuals ("Gargoyles" was great at handling groups that way - except for the Quarrymen, and that's only because Greg left after "The Journey".) For example, their response to finding a cure: Maggie really wants one, Talon is more interested in getting revenge on Goliath and Sevarius than in being cured, and Fang doesn't want a cure at all because he likes being a Mutate. (Well, then there's Claw; it's difficult to say what he wants when he never speaks.)

And I still very much like the ending with Talon being reunited with his family and Goliath happily watching from the sidelines.

Hey all!

I saw an episode of "E True Holylwood Story" last night.

It was on Disney; it looked like an old ep. They had some old clips and one of which was Eisner saying, "We are working on a lot of great new projects right now, in our feature animation deparment and in our Television Department. One thing is an all new full length animated feature about Native America (Pocahontas). The other is about a group of midevil warriors who come to life at night. Both look amazing."

It was interesting.

until Ask Greg is redone (which could be awhile, since here we are talking about it again and its been YEARS) we need some temporary solutions to all these problems.

the easiest solution is to just shut down Ask greg until Greg catches up, but that could be awhile...

i think someone (Todd????) needs to have a more in depth discussion with Greg about some of the problems. its extremely frustrating for all of us that the usual crowd in the Comment Room can answer half of the questions in the queue, and since we have more time/resources and people available we can probably answer about half the question in the queue with more detail than Greg has time for. this is why i think questions that have been asked MANY times and answered MANY times need to be deleted from the queue. when you can direct a fan to an entire achive catagory based on their question, you know that their asking it is a waste of everyone's time.

Todd, i think you should talk to Greg about all this. i don't know if Greg understands the problem entirely. we really need to be ruthless with obviously hoax or monotomous questions, delete them without a thought. i wish there was a simple way that someone or the whole Comment Room could go in and answer some of the obvious questions for Greg. i think if Greg didn't have to deal with ideas, already answered questions, bored fans, and dumb questions in general (can coyote or goliath talk like a wolf?) then Greg could be caught up in a matter of months not years.

I'd say someone deliberately spamming the Ask Greg forum isn't really a fan in the first place, so the "risk of alienating" him/her isn't even a consideration. If some jerk is throwing rocks at a store window, do the store keepers let him continue to do it freely because otherwise it might "alienate" the guy? Gosh, the little vandal might not buy something if he's kept from malicious mischief. *shakes head*

The questions by Anonymous/Viper/Daniel/Macbeth etc... all the same IP, in a continuous string were not a fans questions, they were someone's smart ass attempt to waste the time of Greg and waste the window of opportunity for all other fans with real questions. I could understand allowing innocently stupid questions through, but when something is obviously a deliberate attempt to 'vandalize' the Ask Greg function, shouldn't that at least should be edited out? IMO, the following is a clear and obvious vandalism.

From Ask Greg's Question's submitted page:

That was what, 10 questions? And Greg answers how many in the rare moments he gets to address Ask Greg? And people with legit questions have to wait well over a year before there is even a chance of an answer.

Makes one wonder if more real fans will wind up alienated by a total lack of regulation than will be by a little thoughtful regulation.

Just some thoughts

I'm afraid that I can't "retro-delete" questions; once I've passed a question on to Greg, I can't undo that and delete it. What's done can't be undone.

The big problem here is that I don't have the authority (although I wish that I did) to delete frivolous or "over-asked" questions. (I'd discussed that matter with Greg Weisman, but we came to the conclusion that, annoying as they are, we have to let them through since we don't want to alienate the people who asked them and thereby mean a smaller number of "Gargoyles" fans, which would hinder the series' hope of a return.) I can only delete "idea questions" and questions with multiple subjects. Sorry about this.

COMA-MAN - Sorry about that. Unfortunately, I've already cleared the questions that you mentioned (they were 2002 ones, and I've already reached the 2003 ones). So I'm afraid that it's too late now.

Watched my tape of "Protection" today. Not one of my favorites, but it has a few fun moments (most of which I've mentioned before, though). Goliath's disgust at Dracon calling an extortion racket "protection" (to him, that use of the word would be nothing short of blasphemy). Dracon's remark to Goliath about "So [Elisa's] your woman?" (You've got to admit that at least he's observant.) Dracon actually patting Goliath familiarly on the wing for a bit, until Goliath growls at him and he hurriedly steps back. Matt and the storekeeper's interaction. (I certainly find it appropriate that Mr. Jaffe would describe Matt as tilting at windmills - how else can you describe somebody who's out to bring down the Illuminati?)

A new bit that I thought was a lot of fun was Pal Joey's response to Dracon's deciding that he (Pal Joey) should work with Goliath and Broadway.

One bit that I think was a really great touch was when Elisa, Matt, and Chavez are having their "staged talk" about Elisa being a crooked cop and Chavez comments to Elisa "You have been acting rather strange lately". I thought that that was a great touch in making sure that the audience would believe that it was the real thing and not an act.

Dracon gives Glasses a mild put-down when Glasses is reporting about how Mr. Jaffe and his "clerk" want to see the top man, and Dracon replies "And they know it's not you."

(And I've said it before, but I'll say it again; Matt looks hopelessly geeky in his grocery clerk disguise.)
