I, too, would offer condolences but cannot find what it is people are grieving over. Did the post disappear or am I blind as a bat?

Its sad when someone loses a family member, my heart goes out to Mr. Weisman. As a fellow dog owner I understand how valued our 4 footed friends are. I fear all too soon I'll experience the same thing with my 18 year old beagle.

At least Sandy(my beagle) and Buddy(german shepard) made it through this hurricane safe and sound along with the rest of my family. I think mother nature has something against floridians this year.

On a gargoyles related note: I plan to submit my dvd review in a day or so. ^_^ Here's hoping the power doesnt go out. I'd love to know what the dvd cover looks like. *crosses fingers and prays that it will be an awesome cover.*

Victoria> Technically, and this is just mho, I believe Owen/Puck did so because he feared and knew that when Oberon found him, he'd be hauled back to Avalon and that would _seriously_ break contract. Oberon would not uphold Puck's honor by letting him stay, obviously, so he took a sorta chicken way out just to keep his fun and his contract w/ Xanatos, and that meant skipping out briefly. So he could stay in the long run.

Blaise> Well... "infamy" is sort of like being famous without necessarily trying to, so I'm just calling Gargoyles humble; and the date's correlation to Pearl Harbor was too obvious to ignore.

Todd> Yup, that's me.

DVD AIM icon> I would love one.

Well, that section is called "Goof and NITPICKS" ; ) Why don't you log in and tell him that? I don't think he comes here...

Vertigo1:

"He may be a fan, but he's extremely nitpicky in the "goofs" section."

Gargoyles has a lot, and I do mean a LOT of goofs. Not an episode goes by without some kind of goof! It's from the 90's!

"Some of the things he lists as animation errors really aren't. (Like the one about Brooklin's wings in "The Price")"

Could you elaborate? I didn't see anything wrong with Brooklyn's wings in that episode. Of course, I'm usually staring at Goliath anyway... [drool]

"or flat out didn't happen (Bronx being shown in "Kingdom")."

http://members.aol.com/earlsguys/Misc/KngdBronx.jpg

Now, either that's Bronx, or some alien that snuck into the Clock Tower...

"I also find it hard to believe that he didn't mention the lack of military response to the Hunter's airship in "Hunters Moon""

Now there's an interesting question. Didn't the Illuminati fund the Hunters and later on the Quarrymen? Maybe they had something to do with the lack of military response.

"or Travis Marshall's head being separated from his body in "Angels in the Night". (I snicker everytime I see the latter.)"

I still can't get over that! His head just suddenly comes off and his body spasms! And to make matters worse, his lips are still moving! HAHAHAHA!

So, any news on what the Gargoyles DVD cover looks like? I'm dying to see it! Please don't make it look like The Heroes Awaken cover... oh please oh please oh please...

And everyone, please leave reviews on Amazon if you haven't already. I know you have to register and such, but please take the time to support the show. We have forty reviews so far; we've beat Batman: The Animated Series Volume 2 (which only had five reviews the last time I checked). So please leave reviews! It only takes a minute and you'll be doing something for the show! We need to reach at least 100 reviews by December 7th!

heh, I agree, the site is amazing but some of the stuff listed in the Goof page is a little intense. But one of them did strike my interest, and I unable thus far to find a question/response of the same comment in Ask Greg.

Wasn't Owen breaking his "life time of service" agreement he had with Xanatos by leaving his post? Granted he set up all the security systems and defenses Xanatos would need and told him how to use it, but David wanted him to stay and he didn't. For some reason that disruption in their agreement never occured to me until last night.

On another note, there's now 40 reviews for the DVD up at Amazon! The fact that there really could be up to 100 reviews by the time the DVD actually releases is so awesome.

He may be a fan, but he's extremely nitpicky in the "goofs" section. Some of the things he lists as animation errors really aren't. (Like the one about Brooklin's wings in "The Price") or flat out didn't happen (Bronx being shown in "Kingdom"). He even contradicts himself about Demona's laser cannon in "Long Way to Morning".

I also find it hard to believe that he didn't mention the lack of military response to the Hunter's airship in "Hunters Moon", or Travis Marshall's head being separated from his body in "Angels in the Night". (I snicker everytime I see the latter.)

Don't get me wrong, its a decent site. I just found the goofs section to be a bit on the anal side.

Lord GargFan & Todd > the sympathies are much appreciated! I'm rather more experienced with this than I'd like to be - my father passed away last year from cancer, so my relatives were mostly looking at my family for strength on losing a father/husband. But at the same time I felt so bad because I'm not familiar with these relatives, and had next to no memories of this uncle. It felt so weird and awkward to know someone was dead, and be at the funeral, but never really have known them.
And of course hugs and condolences to Greg on the loss of his loveable Basset. I'm quite attached to my pets, and I lost my first dog when I was little..definitely not an aspect of life I'm looking forward to experiencing anytime soon with my current animals.

Bah, enough with the sad note, I know someone around here had a birthday this week, so belated wishes on that to...Demonskrye, right? And....*thinks* I'm watching the OT DVD's with my sis and bro-in-law, so that's definitely something to be cheerful about! :)

JADE GRIFFIN - That was a reference to a little story that Greg Weisman told once. According to him, originally, gargoyles' clothes didn't turn to stone with them, and so when the gargoyles burst out of stone sleep in the evenings, their garments would be ripped apart in the process. Caesar Augustus, while he ruled Rome (from 27 B.C. to A.D. 14) encountered a few gargoyles somehow and learned about this feature; he was displeased with the way that they'd always be rendered naked in the process of waking up, since he was working hard on reforming the Roman Empire's public morals (a piece of real history, by the way; he even banished the Roman poet Ovid to a remote piece of land near the Black Sea for writing a book called "The Art of Love" which contained advice on how to engage in secret adulteries). Fortunately, he knew a powerful wizard, one who had actually written the Grimorum Arcanorum, and asked him to do something about it. The wizard cast a powerful spell which caused the clothes of all the gargoyles in the world to turn to stone with them when they were in stone sleep, so that they would no longer suffer wardrobe malfunctions when they awoke, a spell that lasts to this day. (Greg's hinted that the wizard cast the spell using the combined powers of the Grimorum, the Eye of Odin, and the Phoenix Gate, and it was this combination that inspired the Archmage to combine these three magical artifacts as well.)

Demonscrye> *chuckles* actually, I was referring to Todd's OTHER comment. repost> Today is the birthday of Caesar Augustus, the Roman Emperor responsible for getting the original Magus to cast his spell of humility over the gargoyles. Without that, Goliath and Co. would need fresh loincloths and other attire every evening when they woke up.
That one. Dunno what he's talkin' 'bout. Care to elaborate?

VICTORIA - I'm sorry to hear about your uncle.

PATRICK - Maybe Brod thought that the hovercraft would give him an edge over all the local New York gangs. (And I'd like to know how he got it back from the authorities!) As for why he'd leave Prague - he probably figured that it was high time to relocate now that there was a Golem engaged in crime-fighting there (though if he'd known about the gargoyles in New York, I doubt that he'd have made the Big Apple his first choice for a new location!).

Victoria>Sorry to hear about your uncle. It is quite a sad week for news like this.

I was watching the TGC episode "Seeing Isn't Beleiving" last night on Toon Disney (please don't stone me!) (covers face and braces for impact), and it caused me to realize how bad the animation was compared "Gargoyles".

By the way, Toon Disney is scheduled to air Deadly Force on Tuesday night at 11:30. Maybe in light of the DVD they'll start airing the unedited eps in this "run" of the series (Though I doubt it).

Once again, two requests: cover art descriptions (from the DVD at ComicCon) and AIM buddy icons for the DVD (or at least directions on how to make them).

Well unfortunately, even though I got work off, I just learned this morning that my Uncle passed away and the family will be having the memorial service next Friday. I feel bad, not really because he died (he was ill and in his 80's) but because I really have no concrete memories of him.

Re: "Turf" - I've always wondered why Brod would leave Prague, where he was a top level player, and come to NYC, which is already overflowing with mobsters angling for a piece of the pie. Get off the boat and try to muscle in on the action and a turf war is pretty much inevitable.

73 days left until the spell is broken and they live again! Gargoyles Season One comes to DVD on December 7, 2004!

****The top of a covered dish on the buffet table is pushed aside by a hand coming from WITHIN the coverd plate. After pushing the cover off, the hand then grabs hold of the table and pulls the rest of an arm...a head...and a full body up and out of the plate. Blaise hops off the buffet table and grabs a cookie.**** Just here to offer some well wishes, thoughts, and condolances.

DEMONSKRYE> Happy Birthday!

JAY and LORD GARGFAN> Hey, welcome to the Comment Room!!

JON COTLEUR> "A day which will live in infamy"? Why would it be "famous for a bad reason" (that's the basic definition of "infamous"). Besides, that phrase is best left to the events at Pearl Harbor in 1940.

TODD> RE: the telephone booth in TURF.
Look at Elisa in this scene. This is just after Jack has mentioned Dracon's weapon shipment and Brode is talking about attacking that shipment. While Brode is talking, Elisa *looks at the payphone*--she wants to get in contact with Matt and Maria. Of course, Brode leads her away before she can do this.
It's a bit hard to notice (I just noticed it the last time I watched this ep a few weeks ago).

GREG> I, too, wish to offer my condolances on Norman.
When I was nine, we had to put down Pippin, our Cock-a-poodle (cocker spaniel/poodle mix). She, too, was deaf, and blind in the one eye she had left (the other had been surgically removed for reasons I do not know). And at 16 years old, she had difficulty getting around as well. It was a very hard thing for me, especially because I knew the Vet was going to put her to sleep, rather than her just dying on her own (it was, and still is to some extent, a hang-up for me). I can definitely sympathize with the loss of Norman.

That's about it from me for now, I've got to get busy trying to make more money for paying bills (and fixing my car). I'll yak with you all later on. Until then, farewell. ****Blaise re-covers the plate he emerged from and then promptly dives into the bowl of lime jell-o.****

Greg>I am sorry to hear of your dog's passing. Bassets are such wonderful dogs. They are one of the few hounds I REALLY like. I know how hard it is to lose a pet, I have lost several in my life. *hugs*

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Hello, I just wanted to drop by and say that a great way to circulate word on the upcoming Gargoyles DVD is to include a blurb about it in your AIM profile.

Here's what I have in mine:

"It's coming...

On December 7th, 2004, prepare to glide...

A day which will live in infamy.

Show your support for the best animated dramatic series to ever find you.

On December 7th, buy Gargoyles: Season One on DVD.

All original thirteen episodes in DVD-quality, at an absurdly meek price, and pumped full of extras.

If we buy them, more will come.

Pre-order on Amazon.com today, or take part in an effort to make Disney's knees shake by buying it on December 7th, 2004 precisely the day of its release.

Good animation need not die, or turn to stone forever."

I plan on keeping my profile that way until the 7th.

Greetings. After being reaquainted with "Gargoyles" thanks to Toon Disney, I came across this site. First off, I can't wait for the DVD to be released. I've already put a review on Amazon and have been slipping in mention of "Gargoyles" on other forums I visit. Now I know the creativity it must have taken to 'bend Oberon's law.'

Todd's comment about the trio is dead on as the Stooges were the first thing I thought of when I saw this ep back in high school. I wasn't disappointed, but I'll admit I expected the three to be a bit more focused seeing as Elisa was in potential danger.

As for great moments, let's not forget Lex's "Watch me take on the hover craft." Speaking of Lex and his dealing with rejection from Angela, I always chalked it up to him just being more logical minded: sort of Owenish, only not so rigid.

I think most of us expected Brooklyn to take it hard. Remember how long it took him to except the idea that Maggie didn't choose him? Both Lex and Broadway were less concerned about her not choosing any of them. Brooklyn struck me as the one who wants love so bad that he winds up trying too hard rather than letting things take their own pace.

Though, if Greg says Lex is gay then that's the way it is. Honestly I don't have issues with it. It would be interesting to see how he would have dealt with it, just as I want to know more of how Elisa and Goliath would have dealt with their, which honestly would be the harder of the two and if anything I think would upset parents more than dealing with same sex same species relationships.

I've only had a little time to play with the DVD website in the last few days, but I did put up a few banners/online ads to promote the DVD. You can see them at www.gargoylesdvd.com/onlineads.html

Still on my list of things to do:

- Why Gargoyles? Explanation of the history of the show and why we love it

- History of the DVD

- Some sort of Flash/Shockwave animation for the front page

I think these are the suggestions I've gotten so far. Am I forgetting any? Please let me know if there's something else I'm supposed to be working on. Schoolwork is still warping my brain...

Thanks!

Another point: alot of family based audiences might keep there kids from watching it if that happend. Disney might not market it or even try putting it back on the air if that happend also. (nothing agienst gay people or anything my best friend is gay)

Oh yeah, I didn't mean I thought it was an inconsistency. Although in fairness, we never really got reaction from Lex to Broadway/Angela. Not in Greg's episodes, at least.

I think what he might find more problematic is the pressure (even if it's unstated) to breed to help continue the species. Adoption wouldn't be quite the same since clans raise their kids in groups anyway (perhaps less so after Angela, Tachi and Nashville). And the way Lex interacted with Alex suggests that he might quite like kids. Could be interesting.

Jen, didja get the Email I sent you yesterday, if so, please respond to it.

Regarding Lex's sexual persuasion, I think that Greg may have suggested that because he had no idea about who Lex's future mate would be, regardless of being him/her.

Lex> i think Lex's brief interest in Angela makes perfect sense and actually creates a bit of realism to his sexuality. most of the gay people that i know (including myself) have dated the opposite sex, or at least shown some interest. i believe that often, society tells gay people that they should date the opposite sex, but in doing that, the gay person more fully realizes their sexuality. in fact, i think having Angela around caused Lex to examine his sexuality sooner than he would have had she not shown up.

Lex joining the pursuit of Angela proves nothing except that he's susceptible to peer pressure and hadn't reached the stage of self-realization yet. He joined in because that was what was expected of him. And you'll notice later that he backs off completely when it becomes clear that Angela is interested in Broadway. It's only Brooklyn who struggles with letting it go.

74 days left until the spell is broken and they live again! Gargoyles Season One comes to DVD on December 7, 2004!

Demonskrye: Good point on the Amazon reviews. I haven't added my review yet, but I will do before the release.

Gantros: I'm not sure it would be a 'change' in Lex's character necessarily. It's not something he's ever really confronted, except for being briefly competitive for Angela's attentions in "Turf" (like he always is around his brothers). But I don't see the big deal, really. You can hint at something without needing to be explicit, and by using the Internet, Greg can make sure that anyone who wants to be clear is clear.

Shara: I would have thought the characters' romantic feelings would be part of the show at present, though? There's no real difference in exploring Lexington's feelings than exploring Broadway and Angela, whichever gender he's interested in.

If I were to change anything in the series, it would be to allow a gargoyle to be captured (by the police) at the end of "Hunter's Moon". THis would segway into "The Journey", Can't you just imagine that episode of Nightwatch where Margot says "...they're nothing but mindless beasts!" and instead of going to the Braodway/Angela scene, we hear a the garg's voice going "'mindless beasts', are we?" and joining the debate as part of some sort of deal to tell their side to calm people down. But that's just one of my little "creativity demons".

Something scary happenned recently. Somebody wanted to join my group working on a gargoyles card game who DIDN'T know about the Gargoyles DVD coming out on December 7. You would have think that somebody searching through gargoyles websites would have learned about the DVD release.

Sometimes I wonder if he (Greg) said Lex was gay just to get people to stop asking him who his mate was. Besides, even if it was his intent from the beginning, it's unlikely that Disney would let him change Lex's character to anything remotely homosexual (being that Disney is like that and all the controversy right now over the matter). Of course, the political climate over the subject might change by the time Gargoyles is given a new season (2014 anyone?).

Jade Griffin> I'm probably not the most qualified person to answer this, but when I asked pretty much the same question you did a few months ago, I was told that Greg had revealed at a Gathering (I've forgotten which year) that Lex is in fact homosexual. Which went a long way towards explaining why Greg never revealed anything about Lex's mate. Anyway, the fact that Ask Greg is very behind means that he hasn't hit the questions regarding this rvevelation yet. So doing a search for "homosexual" just brings up some more general questions about gargoyle sexuality.

Speaking of which, has Greg ever mentioned if we've met Lex's future mate yet? Do we know anything about the guy other than that he's a guy?

Today is the birthday of Caesar Augustus, the Roman Emperor responsible for getting the original Magus to cast his spell of humility over the gargoyles. Without that, Goliath and Co. would need fresh loincloths and other attire every evening when they woke up.

I watched my tape of "Turf" today. I sometimes wonder if trio fans must really dislike this one in a way, since it portrays Lex, Brooklyn, and Broadway acting almost like the gargoyle equivalent of the Three Stooges (especially when they collide with the chimney, or when Brooklyn's yelling at Lex and Broadway "Knock it off, you muttonheads!"). Then again, as Elisa pointed out, it was a thousand years since they'd last been around an attractive female gargoyle....

The last time that we see Tony Dracon in "Gargoyles" (I wonder what he'd have done with his gang broken up, and who would supply the new face for mundane crime in the series if Greg had stayed on for Season Three). And getting Tomas Brod from "Golem" (a sign of how Greg was planning on having the World Tour events affecting New York in lots of ways - pity that we didn't see more of that) for a rival at that. There were a lot of entertaining lines here, such as:

GLASSES: Come on down to Dracon's House of Auto Parts. The prices are hot, and so is the merchandise!

BROD (after "Salli" gets taken out by one of Dracon's men):This is why I never go in first.

BROD (being questioned by Matt): Chop shop? What is chop shop?

ELISA: Why would Dracon transport weapons by a passenger train?
BROD: He's very clever.
GLASSES (breaking ambush): Yes, clever.

DRACON (during Brod's attack on the prison): What's going on here? I didn't order a breakout!

Not to mention the ending; I doubt that they'd have made Dracon and Brod cellmates in real life, given their attitude towards each other, but you've got to admit that it was a lot of fun to see!

We get a lot of references back to earlier episodes - Broadway's misadventure in "The Price", Lexington's helicopter experience in "Her Brother's Keeper", Jack Dane coming back from "Revelations", not to mention "Golem" and "Protection".

Note that it's Brooklyn who asks "When do we get our world tour?" at the end. As the old saying goes, "Be careful what you ask for." I certainly doubt that he was expecting a 40-year-one, courtesy of the Phoenix Gate.

An odd little animation moment: while Brod and Elisa are talking outside the restaurant that Dracon's gang set on fire, the camera pulls back to reveal a pay-phone - which nobody makes any use of in that scene, which raises the question of why we were shown that at all.

And, of course, who can forget "STOP CALLING ME ANGIE!"

Obviously Lexington hadn't realized yet which way he leaned at the time of "Turf". (I wonder if he had by "The Journey"; it would certainly explain a lot about why he wasn't as upset about Angela choosing Broadway as Brooklyn was.)

There's one other way of stopping young male gargoyles from pestering Angela, of course (if one that probably wouldn't occur to gargoyles under normal circumstances in light of the emphasis of group parentage over biological) - remind them whom they'd be getting for a mother-in-law. :)

Well I was browsing through Ask Greg for you and came upon this, not sure if it's helpful:
In response to someone asking whether "gargoyles change to stone through their whole bodies, or do they just have a stone shell?"
Greg replied that "They change throughout into a stone-like organic substance"
I've noticed, while going through the archives, that the term "stone-like" is used a good deal of the time, by those asking questions, and by Greg himself. So I would presume that it's not any specific type of stone we could look up in a textbook.

Ahh, here we go, this should be the perfect response from Greg to answer your question:
"An organic substance that closely resembles stone."

Test. test. Can everyone hear OK?

Just a small reminder for all stateside gargs that you have three weeks left to register to vote if you haven't already. I'm not really interested in hearing everyone's political views - partly because that would get the comment room waaay off topic - but I do believe that a representative democracy works better when more people say how they want to be represented. If you are registering for the first time, remember to have a valid ID on hand when you go to vote. Looking forward to Gargoyles on DVD is important, no doubt. But we shouldn't lose sight of other important things too.

And while we're making our opinions known, keep those reviews for Amazon coming. If we get one new review a day, we'll have over 100 by the DVD release date.

In work, play, politics, entertainment, whatever you believe in, let your voice be heard!

Heck, the BTAS Season One DVD only has 90 reviews, and Batman's certainly been able to keep in the spotlight more than Gargoyles. Hate to break it to you Paul, but every modern search engine (ala Google, Yahoo, etc) ignore META tags because in the past some sites would use fraudulent META tags to get their sites to pop up more often on search results.

Kaylle>>>One way some search engines work is by looking at the amount of times it finds a word on the web page, especially under the "keywords". To help make your web page (which is excellent!! 5 stars!!!) more noticed by search engines, copy the following to your header. I kept it short, but feel free to add some more phrases that describe your page, especially that include the word "gargoyles."

<META
content="Gargoyle, gargoyle, Gargoyles, gargoyles, Gargoyle DVD, gargoyle dvd, Gargoyles DVD, gargoyles dvd, Gargoyles Season 1 DVD, gargoyles season 1 dvd, Gargoyle Season 1 DVD, gargoyle season 1 dvd, New Gargoyles DVD Release, new gargoyles dvd release, Latest Gargoyles DVD News, latest gargoyles dvd release, Gargoyles Fans, gargoyles fans"
name=keywords>
<META
content=""This site is dedicated to keeping fans everywere up to date with information about the release of the new Gargoyles Season 1 DVD.""
name=description>

It can also help to register with some of the well known search engines. Example details can be found by clicking on my name.

GargoylesDVD.com> Adding to everyone else's praises, excellent idea. I wonder if maybe little tear off tags with the site name and release date could be added to the posters? It might help interested parties to remember.

Amazon.com> We now have 33 customer reviews up, mine included. So I'm thinking, why not aim for 100 before the release date? If I remember my numbers right, that's be half the people who attended the Gathering and I know the are plenty of fans who didn't go who could easily write a review (like me).

I'm wondering if we should start bugging Amazon to update their information on the DVD. There's no mention of the special features in the listing even though Disney has officially announced them. Maybe if enough of us use the suggestion box at the bottom of the page to suggest that Amazon add this info, they'll get to it. Also, that listing for just "Gargoyles" on DVD that says the studio is not currently producing this DVD is still up. According to the stats, 38% of the people who look at that listing buy Season One later, hence there's a link ot the correct listing. But I'd hate to think that someone might just look at this and say "Oh, I guess it isn't coming out yet". Again, bugging Amazon via the suggestion box may be a good idea. It's in their best interests to direct people to a page where the product is actually for sale.

Back when the show was on and the merchandise still in the stores, Tim told his folks that I wanted "Gargoyles stuff." They buried me in sculpted gargoyles, do-it-yourself gargoyle kits with stony spray paint, gargoyle shirts, etc. Which, though cool and all, just goes to show ;)

Patrick>You have kids? My parent's almost always screwed up on something I asked from them. And now, with my own child, I still can't get stuff straight. She asked for a specific panda bear toy, there are millions of them out there.
I've seen people pick up the Angel box set for their kids, when their kids asked for Buffy. X-mas season makes parents a lot more absent-minded and a lot less likely to look for details. They just want to get the stuff and get out of the store before a fight breaks out over the next Tickle Me Elmo

As a side note, maybe you could post something about the history of the DVD? Like how we tried to get it in 2003 but it was pushed back to 2004 for the tenth anniversary of the series? Some people think that the only reason the Gargoyles is coming to DVD is because of the Jetix run, but it's been coming for a long time! Also, could you include the DVD postcards that were distributed at one of the comic cons? Well, just an idea. Feel free to use it if you want. :D

Also, if any of you haven't posted your reviews on Amazon yet, what are you waiting for? We need reviews!

Thanks to everyone who visited the DVD site! I'm glad you like it :) I'm trying hard to keep it up to date and useful.

Ed> According to Google, the only thing I can do for now is submit the URL to their spider, which I did. It can take "between six and eight weeks" for it to get added to their index. I seem to remember my personal site being available on google long before then, but I'm not sure. Other than that, it's all up to their PageRank equation and the number of links to the site, etc.

The next big thing I want to put up is a "What's Gargoyles?" page for newbies to visit if they've seen the address somewhere but don't know anything about the show. I'll try to get that done tonight.

News about the Gargoyles DVD is definitely spreading. A few minutes ago, I happened to visit the fanfic section of a small forum dedicated to "X-Men: Evolution", and clicked on a story that somebody had begun about an X-Men: Evolution/Gargoyles crossover (which involved a run-in between Demona and Nightcrawler, as well as the clan hoping to stop Demona from stealing a magic spear that had once belonged to the Egyptian god Set and using it to wipe out the humans in New York), and from there, a discussion of the upcoming DVD release began, with many people being very excited about it (and hoping that "Deadly Force" will be unedited on it - which, from what I've heard so far, fortunately it will).

The 1978 "Gargoyles" movie is hard if not impossible to find in stores, so I would guess that fact will give even the most clueless of parents a leg-up when shopping Best Buy with only their kid's letter to Santa to guide them.

Kaylle: Your site looks superb. Well done!

The next step, I suggest, is making sure people see it. I just noticed that if you type "Gargoyles DVD" into Google, 4 out of the top 10 entries (including the top one) are for the 1972 movie, and the ones that deal with the cartoon aren't too helpful. This same 'Gargoyles' is the first one I find when I type 'Gargoyles' into Amazon.com too, although I hope on 7 December, S1 will be bumped up. Both situations may change closer to release, but if there's going to be an advertising campaign, I think it would be helpful if our 'Gargoyles' was the easiest to find information about -- before a bunch of kids who fall in love with the adverts and put 'Gargoyles DVD' on their Christmas wishlist get quite disappointed on Christmas morning. I don't really know how Google and Amazon prioritise these lists though. Does anyone know if there's any way to affect them?

The only thing I've found on Google (linked below) suggests that the best way is to have lots of site putting prominent links out there and lots of people clicking those links. But maybe people who have a better understanding of this technology than me have better ideas?

Well, I'm out of the loop for a little while, and what a pleasant surprise awaits me when I return! The Gargoyles are finally coming to DVD! I can't believe it, I'm so happy! Last thing that I heard was that it was going to be released in October to mark the series ten year anniversary, and that it was only the Awaking Episodes, not the whole first season! I was starting to fear that Disney/Buena Vista would never put the series on DVD. This is so awesome! This piece of information will keep me happy for the next few days! I'm so happy right now that I feel stupid; I got this silly little grin on my face. If I'm still grinning like this tomorrow I'll have to stay home, otherwise people will think that I cracked and throw me in the nut house! I'll have to write a review for Amazon and do everything that I can think of to help the sell of the DVD. I always hoped that Gargoyles would get another chance to go back on the air, and if the DVD sell goes well, who knows, it very well might be brought back to TV. I wonder; would that be a first in Television History? A cancelled show gets a second chance to air new episodes shortly after its ten year anniversary? (I can't think of any shows, can you? Maybe Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but they didn't really continue with the old episodes, they just remade the episodes, so that doesn't really count.) Hmm, we very well might be witnessing Television History here!

I'm a little nervous about posting this, but I went through the trouble of setting it up so I'd better share it <g>. Anyway, it occurred to me that we don't have a central location where all the DVD information can be found. And there's no easy-to-remember URL to give to new fans who might be interested, or to post in signatures, etc. So I set one up, because I thought it might be useful. It's http://www.GargoylesDVD.com .

I don't want to compete with the other Gargoyle sites, because frankly they'd win <g>. I just want to supplement the fandom's existing sources of information. So if people would like to advertise the DVD release in signatures, chat rooms, etc, this is a sort of one-stop info source.

For now I've been gleaning news from whatever sources I can find, including Ask Greg, Amazon.com, etc. I'm hoping to stay up to date, but folks should feel free to email me with updates if I miss something. Also, the site is still in construction, so if people have comments or suggestions I'd appreciate those, too.

So please, check it out, let me know if you love it/hate it, whatever :)

Reposting for the new week:

Gang,

I talked to the folks at Buena Vista Home Entertainment.

I asked them what was the best date for us to MASS ORDER/PURCHASE the 1st Season Gargoyles Series DVD.

My contact was unequivocal in his response.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 7th, 2004.

Yep, that's right the day of the release. I guess anything earlier is nice but winds up being too early to be useful. But day and date with the release is exactly what we need.

In the meantime, BV encourages ALL OF YOU to go to Amazon and rave in the comments/reviews section. Leading up to Dec 7, the more good buzz on Amazon's site the better.

(Remember this is the make or break event in the fandom. It's time to prove to Disney once and for all that we have the bodies and the dollars and the fanbase and the communications skills to support more Gargoyles product -- both merchandise and creative. If we can't prove it with this DVD release... well, we're not likely to get another chance.)

So spread the word. SPREAD THE WORD!!!!!!!!

The DVD is coming out December 7th. And we'd like EVERYBODY to ORDER/PURCHASE it on THAT DAY!!!!!!!!!

The few stateside movies that I knew would come to DVD eventually, but still had a bootleg, I got from friends as gifts or favors. I haven't spent a dime on stateside bootlegs that I can wait 6 months for. And none of them are videotaped in a theater. One in particular is DVD quality, save for it's a little darker.
Bootlegs are no longer the grainy, scratchy, flipping screens you use to get. At the conventions I go to, they have TV and DVD/VHS players set up so you can put in any VHS/DVD and test it before you buy it. A lot of the newer movies they make copies of the DVDs that were only meant for studio head honchos and publicists. No more of this recording from VHS to VHS over and over again.

Other bootlegs I have that I paid for are Plague Dogs and Song Of the South. Song of the South if ever released to DVD will probably not include the "tar baby" sequence and thus, be uncompleted. And Plague Dogs was from the makers of Watership Down, a cut VHS was released on USA, but they refused to release the uncut version and I doubt it will ever be released to DVD in any form in the USA.

I also have Buffy (Hush, Once More With Feeling, and the pilot episode) on DVD. I mainly got the DVD for the pilot episode. I already had Hush uncut on the official release. And Once More With Feeling was due to come on the next set in a matter of months. But the pilot episode was never seen publically and I was interested in seeing it. Actually, I was always disappointed Joss never added it to any of the DVD releases. It was interesting. And a nice way to see how it all started.

It's odd the whole bootleg thing. Go to any comic/sci fi convention, you will see at least 6 booths selling 100s of movies on DVD. Many of them are still in theaters. And they are out in the open. And police officers are right there for security.
But if you download one from online, you are more likely to be busted.
I guess maybe the FBI thinks that the conventions are smaller groups of people, while online, it's open to the entire public. Which still doesn't make sense to me. I feel the bigger problem is the conventions. With downloading, even if you have cable, you are still downloading for quite sometime. At a convention, drop $20 and it's your's in a heartbeat.

Bootlegs> I'll freely admit I have a few, mostly VHS, though no "Gargoyles". My personal policy is that I only buy bootlegs of stuff that I do not think will get a regular stateside release. No "I don't want to wait six months or less, so I'll buy this tape some guy made from the audience." No "Sure it'll be out in a year in legitimate release, but I want it now." What I buy bootleg is stuff that I really believe will NEVER get released here. Of course, I've been wrong at times. I didn't know when I bought "Laputa", Nausicaa", and "Porco Rosso" that Disney would make a deal to release all of Miyazaki's films and would actually follow through on it (eventually, I hope). But the second part of my personal policy is that I always buy a legitimate release if it comes out. It's usually something of a no-brainer. I get to replace a low quality VHS dub with a shiny new DVD which may well have some fun extras on it. You can bet all my Miyazaki tapes will be replaced once the new DVDs come out. And our "Futurama" VCDs haven't sen much use since the DVDs were released. The only exception I'd make is if the legit release had been edited somehow. Even then, I'd probably still get the new version, but I'd hang on to the bootleg.

Just to add, Im sad that people are paying money for the bootlegs on dvd. Its perfectly alright for fans to have tapes and dvds they made for friends and family. Its the fact that someone is making alot of profit on consumers when the dvds are bound to have alot more content and they are shelling out this much money on something they could tape themselves. I need to get a Tvio, 12 hours of Gargs stored would be nice! ^_^

I do have some of the eps taped. One being the Mirror but I was too little at the time(I think I was 12 or 13) to realize that the show wouldnt be on regular cable forever so I didnt tape a majority of the episodes. I regret that massively. Well at least when/if I can get toon disney Ill try to tape those eps to tide me over til the dvd release.

Sorry If my last post upset anyone. I just wanted to use this one to clarify what I really wanted to say. *note to self, try not to post anything after 11pm, brain extreamly non functioning by then*

I have bootlegged VHS, but no matter to me. I'm still getting the DVD. I feel most of the true fans have bootlegs or copies they made themselves. But they will still purchase the official. Hell, I had a couple of movies months before official release, still bought the official DVDs. I'm one for liking to have the fancy cover and all the bonus features. Bootlegs are nice for stuff you can't get ANYWHERE and with no hope of ever being released, but in all, I prefer to see the studios release them, themselves.
