Hmm. I'm beginning to wonder about this question:

please can you tell me a list of all of oberon's children

(it's the 10th one in line to be asked)

Judging from what we saw in the Gathering Part 1, there are thousands (millions?) of members of the 3rd race. Incidently, there are 11 questions left from November 2002 in the backlog and 47 left from 2002.

Victoria - That's good as long as everybody keeps giving the series a 5 out of 5 rating. Those who give it a 4 out of 5 . .

Happy 10th Anniversary Gargoyles! :)

"Ten years ago, we were awakend to a world foreign to us. Betrayed by the one human we trusted to be our friend. We have fought tooth and claw to show that we are not the monsters we appear to be, and to be accepted amongst our human neighbors. We've made powerful friends, and enemies along the way.

We live again!"

Not too shabby for a spur of the moment thing. ;)

Happy 10th anniversary, Gargoyles!

A side-note: in the TV guide, it said that there's a new made-for-cable movie to air this week called "Gargoyles: Wings of Darkness", or something like that, which will evidently portray gargoyles as evil monsters again. (Small wonder that Goliath and Co. have such an image problem with such interpretations of gargoyles being the norm!)

I still think they could of done better with the dvd and cover art. The Vhs tapes had a metalic kind of look to them and the pictures where great, I think disney got lazy heheh.

Re:crossovers. seeing as so many people are talking about crossovers if you want to see some of these ideas illustrated in the future check out the gargoyles comics site and start submiting some of them. Will be at the gathering to if anyone wants to learn more about our orginization and site. :)

I'm off to leave my review at amazon right now :) Keep forgetting to do that.

Siren: I sure hope the real DVDs don't say "Ultimate Disney" on them.

Crossovers: The problem with commercial ones are that they always seem to be written by people from one side who don't squat about the other. Fanfic crossovers, in my opinion, usually come out better because they're written by someone who is a fan of both sides.

Stephen> And yes, getting the tech level and the character's reactions to said tech is crucial to any sort of crossover that is not 1990s New York based. SWATcats? Hmm...I'd like to hear more about that...SWATcats was perfect for crossovers in my opinion due to the fact it in itself included the opportunity for so many cliched plot devices to be used as both technology (time machines, portal generators etc.) and magic (you know who)were incredibly prominent in the series.

CROSSOVERS - I've been lurking on this topic for a while, considering it's a forte of my writing experience in fanfics.

I've always tried to put my crossovers down with extreme detail done to both shows that I'm bringing together (how the characters act, react, think, speak, etc.), and also the reason why their being brought together in the first place. I will admit I am guilty of the "magic portal" deus ex machina... I did that in my Gargs/He-Man/She-Ra story (though it was a misused mix of magic that caused the transfer), and in my Gargs/SWATKats story... Since then, I've tried to keep clear of using magic as a transfer device... In fact, the next three crossover stories I've got in the works have nothing close to using a magic portal... but that's for another forum to discuss.

I can say this much, where other crossovers are concerned, the one thing that can make me wince big-time is when writers totally ignore how the "canon" casts are writing horribly OOC, or they don't pay attention to tech-level knowledge of the two different casts (I mean, Fred Flintstone should not know how to operate a Starfleet tricorder, right?).

In any case, that's all I have to say on the subject of crossovers. Resume your normal mode of discussion. ^_^

My rule of thumb is: as soon as magic of any kind is used to bring the characters from two separate universes together...included the dreaded "magic portal"...then I turn off the internet and go find something else to do.

I know technically it's not a crossover, but do you think it is possible that once Christine Morgan officially retires from her alternate Gargoyles Universe, that other authors can build from it provided they follow certain rules (if any) that are left behind?

I'm not really a fan of most crossovers either, because I'm not usually familiar enough with the other show/universe being crossed. If you're not a fan of both universes, you can get pretty lost.

The huge exception to that rule, imho, is Missy Merlin's All Through The Night, which crosses Gargoyles, X-Files, Beauty and the Beast (the TV show), Batman, and a few other things I can't remember <g>. Even if you're not familiar with all of those properties, you probably have enough familiarity with some of them to follow the story, and it's beautifully done. I'd highly recommend it :)

Leva Mevis did a couple of wonderful BatB crossovers as well, Beastly Nights and Reflections of the Night, but those might be more difficult to follow if you're not familiar with the show.

Okay, I'm done promoting fanfic, I'll be quiet now <g>

Demon>I understand exactly what you mean. With the X-Men/Buffy crossover, I am trying to stay true to the nature of both universes. Though most emotion if focused on the Buffy Universe. For instance, Buffy nearly kills Nightcrawler and when she discovers he's actually human, she has this inner turmoil, wondering if she stakes first and asks questions later too much. Wonders if some of the "demons" she killed in the past could have been mutants, and thus, she murdered people. I thought it was a nice touch. I haven't gotten too far into the story, but so far, I have no plans for a really Big Bad they need to band together and defeat. The only thing I've been toying with is a possible mutant the X-Men went to go see and she ends up becoming a vampire, thus having the powers of both kinds. BTW, it's X-Men Evolution, though it started out the comic book, then it was the movie, now it's Evo. It's been evolving on it's own for a long time. As most my stories do.

Forgive me if I didn't make my point entirely clear. I'm not saying that I hate all crossovers or that I think their only purpose is to have two heroes fight it out. I was saying that seeing who would win in a fight is a major selling point for comics especially, which is kind of where crossovers had their start and really gained momentum. Siren pointed out one of the actual reasons behind most crossovers, especially the non-fanfic ones. They can make for great cross sells to get fans of one property hooked on the other and vice versa. I think most fanfic crossovers get written simply because the author likes both properties and thinks merging them would be cool. But I don't know; some fanfic authors may think as far as wanting to get one fandom to take a look at the other.

And I do like some crossovers. It can be really fun to see how characters from different stories interact with each other. Sometimes I'm even pleasantly surprised by a crossover that I really wouldn't expect to work. A good example is Christine Morgan's "Gargoyles/ER" crossover, which is not something I would have thought of in a million years. But it works. The thing that bugs me is when people fall into the same old ideas for how a crossover should work and the story really has little going for it aside from the fun of seeing the characters meet and interact. That can still be fun, but if you couple it with a good story that could still interest me even if i didn't know either show or movie or whatever, then you'll really have my attention.

Pity this didn't happen on the other board, where it could be deleted, and the offending spambot banned. I'm still waiting for the death penalty for spammers. ;)

As for cross-overs, yeah they can get old. However, there are those that have been done really well. I remember an old cross-over where the Enterprise-D shows up at Babylon5. It was done in a very light-hearted parody sense, which would please Whitmore here quite a bit. ;) It made fun of Star Trek's over-use of technobabble, Q's arrogance, the Psi Core's nazi-like attitude over telepaths, and Sheridan's "go git 'em" attitude. :)

Then there was a ST:TNG episode where they found Scotty, and he fumbled around the E-D trying to figure things out, etc. There was a particularly funny moment in the novelization of that episode where he first meets Data, and mentions (to himself) that he would love to peek down his neck to see what he was made of. (I'd dig up the exact quote if I could find the book...)

Here's one that can arguably be construed as not being a Gargoyles crossover since it can be done in the Gargoyles universe. The Gargoyles meet Seinfeld and his friends. It doesn't have to happen all at once, they can be passing charactors like Margot or the Jogger only slightly expanded.

Of course it couldn't happen due to copyrights and so forth, but given certain contexts, crossovers can happen without altering the continuity. For example, if the Gargoyles met South Park, the crossover would likely take place in the South Park series. Viewers of Gargoyles who don't watch South Park would ignore it if not be completely unaware of it. Viewers of South Park are used to seeing weird "supernatural" things so it fits the show if done well.

Likewise, the Gargoyles meet the Simpsons would happen on The Simpons show, maybe during the Halloween special or the all to cliche dream sequence. Almost nothing is original anymore. As pointed out, Owen is very Smithers like and Smithers is probably parody of some other charactor.

I'm not too fussy on crossovers, either. I've read some really well-written crossovers between Gargoyles and Buffy...and I still have no desire nor inclination to watch an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I'm somewhat of a fictional segregationist, unless the intent is parody.

Demonskrye>Yes, you are absolutely right. But crossovers can serve another purpose. Get people interested in shows and movies they didn't know about or thought they would like. And we are unlikely to see any of these crossover ideas come to light. It's just for FUN. I almost would think about writing a Buffy/Gargoyles crossover. I am writing an X-Men/Buffy crossover now. And yeah, involves, confusion and then they band together. You are totally right. It's overdone. But then if I write the Buffy/Garg crossover and post it on Buffy forums and pages, then we could end up hitting another fanbase with Gargoyles and show them was a neat show it is and how similar they are. And then it serves two purposes. Entertain and educate. But mostly, entertain.

Haven't had much time to post lately, but here goes:

Disney Platinum DVDs Release Dates from previous week> That's actually WAY out of date. Disney's been stepping up the release schedule on their DVDs. ("Platinum Edition" is starting to have less meaning as various other 2 disc movies come out.) "Bambi" will still be coming out in 2005, but early 2005. February or March, I think. "Cinderella" has been bumped up to 2005, making it the official "Platinum" release for that year. And "Mulan" and "Mary Poppins" should both be out before the end of this year.

Crossovers> This is not meant as a specific jab at anyone, just a generaly comment. But whenever I hear about a crossover of any sort - meaning fan-fiction or legitimate in-continuity for the properties concerned - where the plot can be summed up as "characters meet and fight initially due to misunderstanding, then team up to defeat a common foe", I really lose interest. I mean, I'm sure there have been pretty decent stories written with that premise, but come on. It feels like the first thing you'd be taught in Crossovers 101. It's been done to death. I think this particular cliche probably gained popularity because crossovers pretty much started in superhero comics and one of the selling points was answering the "Who would win in a fight?" question. But of course, superheroes are mostly good guys, so they wouldn't fight unless there was some kind of misunderstanding. But I really think we can get beyond that now. If you really want to have crossover characters take each other on, why not give them an actual problem to fight over? The characters in "Gargoyles" are intelligent and complex and very capable of making decisions that are morally ambiguous or just plain bad. Same goes for a lot of other good series. There's no reason these characters should lose these attributes just to fit into the standard crossover plot.

This is from imdb.com:

'Chappelle's Show' Sets DVD Sales Record
The double-disc DVD set of Comedy Central star Dave Chappelle's Chappelle's Show Season One: Uncensored from Paramount Home Entertainment has sold 2 million copies, breaking the previous record (for a TV series) of 1.9 million copies sold by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment's The Simpsons -- The Complete First Season, Video Store magazine reported Thursday, citing figures from Nielsen VideoScan provided by Paramount. The magazine said that under a new contract extension, Chappelle receives half of all DVD revenue from the show.

C'mon! Let's break the record and try to get Gargoyles at three million copies! If one hundred reviews was this easy...

How about a Ghostbusters/Gargoyles Crossover (Not animated version GB, the movie version)? If it was pre Hunter's Moon, it would be understandable that some people might call the GB to hunt down the Gargoyles as a paranormal pest. Once they realize that the gargoyles wren't supernatural beings, they'd probably have Ray have "Oh my God this is great!" moment, Egon wanting to get as much scientific data on the gargs as possible (Lex would probably be all too happy to assist), Winston thinking "New York, go figure,", and Peter Venkman (sp?) trying to find out how to make money out of the encounter.

I've noticed some confusion regarding W.I.T.C.H. It actually had its start in Disney's Italian division a few years ago in comic book form. Apparently the books have sold really well and it has become a pretty big hit across continental Europe. It is supposed to have an ongoing storyline and be darker than you would expect. I wouldn't write this one off just yet, you may just be pleasantly surprised. The first season is 26 episodes long. There is a "preview" coming up, but it is only a scene from an episode. The series actually starts this Winter. Thus, assuming it does well enough, we'll likely see Greg's episodes around winter 2006.

If the gargoyles did show up in Springfield, I suspect that one of the first consequences would be Mr. Burns hurriedly announcing to the media that all those statues that Springfielders have seen coming to life after dark have nothing to do with radiation leakage from his power plant....

Or, for a really bizarre one, Smithers having to part ways with Mr. Burns because Oberon's just called the Gathering, and Smithers is really Wayland Smith from old English folklore in disguise (giving new significance to his Owenlike appearance and function) and has to go back to Avalon like the rest of the Third Race.

Kyle, Stan, Cartman, and Kenny are at Chef's front door...

Chef: (opens the door) "What is it now, little crackers? I'm kinda in the middle of something..."

Demona: (appears behind him) "Come back to bed, Chef," she purrs, "I'm ready for another round."

Chef: (sighs) "Damn, woman! I just made sweet love to you just five minutes ago!" :: the door closes ::

Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny look at each other.

Kenny: (mumbles)

I would count Goliath as being an obsessive loner. He has his clan. His family. Elisa. Very little of the show did you ever see him go it alone. Either the clan or Elisa was always there. And Goliath's relationship with Elisa is much more cemented then Batman's many relationships. Batman has a thing for bad girls. Catwoman for one. And during the day, he's a playboy. Unlike Goliath who would wish to be mated with Elisa for life, Batman/Bruce has had few relationships that are that serious. And Goliath loved Demona before she became Demona. So he's not into that bad girl stuff. Elisa is a good cop, they have similar views on the world. About protecting those who can't protect themselves. Goliath would never just disappear on Elisa when she turned her head like Batman does to his many loves. Batman is kinda a slut too, he has had a lot of flighty relationships. ;)

A Simpsons/Gargoyles and South Park/Gargoyles would be great! But what about Gargoyles/Futurama? (Ok yea it's set in the future, but when has that stopped anybody?) Couldn't you just see Lex and the Professor working together on something that'll eventually go horribly wrong?

Or maybe even Fry and/or Bender and the Trio getting into a heap of trouble? Although maybe not Bender, considering the bad history the clan has with robots.

And what about Leela and Goliath? Can't forget about the rest of those crazy characters.

Just thought it'd be kinda cool.

I'd like to see the Gargoyles on the Simpsons. I could just imagin Homer exploiting their appearance.

Marge: Homer, you shouldn't use those Gargoles to scare Ned Flanders into thinking you have control of the devil's soul snatchers. I want you to return his TV (shot of HD RPTV) Homer: But Marge, it's game 3 and the Sox are up by 5 runs.

Not to mention the mischeif Bart could lure the trio into.

Hey everyone! I'm a newbie to this comment room, so just thought I'd say hi to everyone first. Hi!!!!
It's really sad to hear that I think it was the Family Channel (?) will be cutting down the time that they rerun Gargoyles. Dang them all!!!!! Even though I don't have cable so that I can watch the show (the cable line literally stops 500ft away from my house, making me an unwilling non-customer) it's still really sad.
But we'll prove to all of them that Gargoyles still live!!! And we'll MAKE them run it longer than half an hour!!!
Ok I'm ranting now, so I'll just stop it right there.

Well, look, if you want a crazy crossover try Gargoyles & Batman. They'd get on so well would Bats and Goliath. Both are obsessive loners who skulk about in angst during the night fighting crime....

I remember several years ago, a short comic crossover of Gargoyles and Hunchback of Notre Dame. It was in Disney Adventures. The Trio saw Hunchback and when they left they were ranting about how unrealistic Quasi's gargoyle friends looked, lol

A Monk/Gargoyles crossover. I actually wrote one with BtVS mixed into it - it's not that great though, LoL, but if you want to read it click on my name.

Oooh! A Farscape/Gargoyles crossover! LoL.

What about a Stargate SG-1/Gargoyles cross-over? ;)

Daniel: Theres a rumor going around that there are live Gargoyles around here somewhere.
Jack: In New York of all places?
Carter: Stranger things have happened...
Jack: So what, you think they're actually real?
Daniel: Only in your imagination.
*Demona flies overhead howling with Goliath in persuit*
Jack: Wow, I must have some imagination!

Lord GargFan>The Witch show as bad as it is is probally going to last a long while. Disney had a huge booth promoting it at comic con. What happend is they started by making the manga. Then they decided on the anime. They are trying to push it toward really young girls. So it probally will last since disney is trying to get it out to kids. Although I thought from the promo stuff they gave us the comic really looked bad I think the Tv show looks even worse. Hehe looks like a bunch of britney spears girls walking around with witch powers.

I wish they would bring back good cartoons like gargoyles. *pouts*

Siren> Aha, but what about the Angel/ Gargoyles crossover....who'd win on the angst, Goliath or Angel? Who'd win with the hacking...Lexington or Fred? Who'd win with being the moody second in command, Brooklyn or Gunn? And finally, who'd win the comedy award- Broadway or Lorn?

Van Helsing>It is my life. My job. My gift. My curse. To hunt and vanquish evil...
Goliath>Like we hadn't heard that before...

Another possible crossover...Buffy/Gargoyles

After fighting Goliath for a while
Buffy: But you look all demon-ee
Goliath: No no no. We're Gargoyles. We protect humans. We are defenders of the night. And we fight crime.
Xander: So your demons out for redemption?
Dawn: How lame is that?
(Everyone slowly looks over at Dawn including Spike and Anya)
Goliath: No! We are not demons! We are Gargoyles!
Spike: Look at Violet getting his feathers ruffled. I'll settle this. (walks up to Goliath and punches him in the gut, the chip in his head activates and Spike gets one massive headache) Nope...not a demon...*cough*

Gantros > It's on Toon Disney. I thought that ABC Family stopped showing the show. And I saw a little blurb after a "Friday Nights of Fright" commercial (it just said "And buy the first season on DVD December 7th" with a pic of the cover and a picture of the cover and part of the disc art, the old one from the ad).

First ABC family stops carrying it and now Toon Disney may replace one showing for a double-showing of X-Men!? If I ever meet Eisner I swear that I would sock him in the head for both allowing this to happen and for being part of the cancellation of Gargoyles...

My predicted timeline for the next few weeks:

Nov. 1 - Gargoyles 11:00 replaced with X-Men
Nov. 5 - Either Disney realizes their mistake or heavy Gargoyles ads will come out about this time...
Dec. 7 - Gargoyles DVD comes out!!!
Dec. 10 - Disney says, "You have the DVD, so we're not going to waste airspace with this crummy show. We'll put Power Rangers on instead."
Dec. 11 - Millions of Gargoyles fans storm Disney headquarters and oust Eisner; force the programmer to put two hours of Gargoyles on nightly; make millions of other people happy...
Dec. 13 - Disney announces new Gargoyles project.

Murphy's law : Anything that can go wrong will
Eisner's law : Anything that can go wrong will happen at my command and will be made one hundred times worse.

And on W.I.T.C.H. - I've seen some commercials... I don't think it'll last. Maybe this is Disney's idea of a cruel prank on Gargoyles fans and on Greg. Of course, I thought that Dave the Barbarian show wouldn't last a month...

Replace that "magnet-tude block" with "Gargoyles - Uncut, Uncensored, Ultimate" on Disney Channel!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pooh : It was a time of darkness, oh, it was a world of fear, ahhh!, it was the age of Gargoyles.
Demona : Shut up you stupid bear!
Tigger : The mean lady said a swear!
Demona : Shut up is not a swear!
Tigger : Yes it is!
Elisa : You two, stop it.
Pooh : Stone by day, warriors by night, (yawns like Goliath's scream in the theme), they were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect. They were sleeping for a thousand years, ooh boy, how long is that?. Now here in the Hundred Ac--I mean, Manhattan, the spell is broken and they're invading the Hund--I mean, they live again. I saw Van Helsing in the theater and bought it. The flying creatures that were after him are vampired. Dracula's brides to be exact. They are gargoyle-like, but they are vampires. They are based on designs of some of the first vampires. Pretty much naked, but like Mystique from the X-Men movies, not really showing anything either. Their wings are attached all the way down their backs, rather then just to their spine. I personally liked the movie, especially the brides. The morphing between vampire to human-looking was seamless. Very cool. Dracula in his monster form is great too, also gargoyle looking, but still retaining many bat and vampire qualities. The werewolves reminded me heavily of the were-Fox in Gargoyles. Same body shape and way of moving. A Van Helsing/Gargoyles crossover would be cool. Because Helsing "senses" evil in creatures. So it would be interesting to see him battle Gargoyles. Being they look very much like vampires to him, yet, he'll sense no evil in Goliath and his clan. But would he sense evil in Demona? It would make for a neat crossover

........................I've been seeing commercials on TV for 'Van Helsing' coming to DVD. Haven't seen the movie (though I did mean to when it came out, might check out the DVD.) I notice quick flashes of this flying thing attacking Van Helsing, that I can only describe as Demona. Would be cool if she was one of the monsters he was tracking. For those who have seen the movie, is there any resemblance/similarities between them?

Lord Gargfan> Is that for Toon Disney or ABC Family? As for Disney, I haven't seen a single TV ad on any of their networks, and the release is almost a month away! And we know of only one magazine ad, which isn't all that flashy and to me looked like something the US Mint would use, which doesn't make it very attractive.

"Here's a neat little fact. Remember the part where they're walking across the street and a cab driver calls Kirk a dumbass? That was none other than.....Bill Paxton!"

I'll have to watch out for that next time I watch it.

Remember when there were going back in time and Kirk sees heads of the crew saying stuff? Scotty said, I think it was, "There be whales here," yet he didn't even say it till later in the movie.

"Why not bring the Phoenix Gate into play?"

Oooh plot bunnies are starting to attack me!! And Puck is part of it :) Thanks for the idea, I hope this story turns out okay!!!

"I know. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Has Catherine Hicks from 7th Heaven. That movie had a silly premise (going back in time to save whales!) but it was very memorable, LoL. Spock doing the Vulcan grip to make that annoying punk guy on the bus go unconscious was so hilarious. And Scotty talking to the computer mouse - "Hello computer!"

I haven't seen that movie in a while. I'm surprised at how much I remember."

Here's a neat little fact. Remember the part where they're walking across the street and a cab driver calls Kirk a dumbass? That was none other than.....Bill Paxton! ;)

"Anywho. Concerning my story - HOW they travel back in time is by circling the sun really fast (silly, yes, but I don't know how else they did it in the Star Trek universe - then again I may be forgetting something? Anyone have ideas to make it not-so-silly??)"

Why not bring the pheonix gate into play? I know...the whole "without a mind to direct the gate" thing. However, if you recall, the Archmage "merged" with the gate along with the Gremorrum (sp?). Theres your mind to direct the gate. All you have to come up with is why the Archmage would pick that point in time to have the gate re-appear. Hell, you could even have it happen by accident like he was thinking of striking Goliath's clan first after getting his "revenge" on Avalon.

Yes, its a bit far-fetched, but its not near as silly. ;)

Well, my point was that the possible drawback of the Wyvern Massacre in the story is that it draws the audience's attention away from the fact that the Captain and Demona betrayed the humans of Castle Wyvern. The fact that neither of them liked the humans doesn't change the fact that it was betrayal.

I rather wish that I had thought to post something about that at "Ask Greg" while the submit question function was still active; it would certainly have been a lot more thought-provoking than all those overasked questions such as "What did Titania whisper in Fox's ear?" and "Why did the show end?" and "Is the show going to return?"

Checking out the recent Disney Adventures, I wonder if we will see some ads for the Gargoyles DVD soon. It would be nice to have a large part of the mag about the show, like they did when it was first aired. I went page to page in DA to see if there was any mention of Gargoyles, but there was none. But it's still early. Perhaps next month. Most of this month's was Incredibles and Shrek 2. Mike's Super Short show also had a small one page article, so maybe it may be featured there. As well as their calander that usually lists release dates. If I happen to see an ad or article for it, I'll scan and post it here.

Hey, y'all! I just got an idea for a fanfic. A short series in which, due to some accident, the gargs and Elisa travel through the Disney Afternoon television shows. Imagine Winnie the Pooh's shock when six gargoyles show up at his home!

If anyone actually does it, post it on this CR.

I don't want to sign up for anything like fanfiction.net or anything, so if you have any alternate ideas I may be able to do it myself.

<<Without Demona's selfishness and hatred for the humans, the clan would still be living in Wyvern; she would not have been forced to steals food and wouldn't have slashed Gillecomgain's face. She also wouldn't have made that deal with Macbeth.>>

Or the Vikings might have wisened up and attacked during the daytime, at which point everyone, human and gargoyle alike, would have wound up dead. Be careful playing the "what-if" game. Not every scenario that's possible ends in happily ever after.

47 days left until the spell is broken and they live again! Gargoyles Season One comes to DVD on December 7, 2004!

Todd's Post> If the Gargoyles were never slaughtered, the Magus may have still cast his spell for the assumed killing of the Princess. But without the massacre, there is no real "threat" to the survival of the Gargoyles.

Of course Demona and the Captain are guilty of hurting the humans. The massacre, however, just sweeps this aside.

What does happen to the humans after the Massacre? Obviously they don't go back to Wyvern. Where do they go? There must have been hundreds of attendants et. al, and the ones they took in (Tom and Mother et. al). Where did they go? They had no place to go.

The Vikings hearded them like sheep to that small cave location. Already poor and starving, and no doubt some of them must have died along the way.

Demona's selfish actions bring about a cascade of events that only serve to hurt her in the long run.

Without Demona's selfishness and hatred for the humans, the clan would still be living in Wyvern; she would not have been forced to steals food and wouldn't have slashed Gillecomgain's face. She also wouldn't have made that deal with Macbeth.

But we needed that plot device to further the story.

Demona already hated the humans by the time of the massacre, so it's really irrelivant is she knew she was hurting many humans. She wouldn't care.

Maybe the captian would have, but as he said, "There not my kind."

That is all I will say.

Haven't been on much lately. Been having a terrible tooth ache and the meds my dentist gave me knock me for a loop. My daughter's also been sick. I'll get around to fixing those few mistakes on the commercial as well as making the new one soon.

430 downloads of the video and my bandwidth is still standing...phew! Watching where people are coming from to see the video. Besides the places I posted it or knew others posted it, I'm finding links to it everywhere. From some sci-fi based role play forums to a Lion King forum. Very cool! The word is getting out to more and more people. Some people on the Lion King forum knew about the show, but didn't know it was coming to DVD and now they are psyched. :D I also wanted to include those links to s8.org and other garg sites on my video so they can find there way to those places and thus, find more info on it.

On another good note (kinda bad simply because it will take me away from my videos more), I got a job offer at a new store. It's a local online auction service. I happened to walk by the other day and decided to check it out. Got to talking with the manager about the auctions, about my videos, and found out we have a LOT of the same interests (Disney, comics, movies, conventions, etc). He offered me a job at his buisness and wants to hire me to make him some music videos for his home and maybe even a commercial for his buisness, as well as help design him a webpage for the buisness :D :D :D I am on such a happy high (and the drugs help that too ;)

Anyways, Gargoyles is not forgotten (NEVER!), just pushed back a bit until my daughter and I feel better and I get this new job in order.

Speaking of crossovers, an idea that would not work would be a Gargoyles/Warhammer 40k crossover. Simply cause the gargoyles would be shot on sight by everyone bar Tau. For being mutants/daemons/heretics/not proper orks/new biomass/living.

Goliath bs. a normal Space Marine- I give Goliath two ammo clips before he goes down.

And Gargoyles/TNG- I always though Puck would have appeared to Lore rather than Data....maybe that's cause I'm a Lore fan.

Well, at least he's got a job. Pity, though, that the show airs on cable (I'm still too frugal to get cable, so I stick purely to the broadcast networks), so I shan't be able to see it as yet. Oh well, at least those who do have cable will be able to enjoy it.

An odd little idea about the Wyvern Massacre that I've had from time to time. Now, I think that it was crucial to the series, especially since it's a keystone to Demona's motivations (her unadmitted guilt over having helped bring about the deaths of so many gargoyles in her clan, which she projects onto the humans rather than facing her responsibility for it). But the one problem with it is that it risks distracting the audience from an important part of Demona and the Captain's betrayal of the castle, which was that they were turning over all the humans there to the Vikings, simply because the humans were snubbing the gargoyles. It's not fun to be at the receiving end of prejudice and bigotry, but the punishment was still worse than the offense, and it was definitely an act of betrayal. And yet, the massacre of the gargoyles almost upstages the plight of the humans, all the more so since the captured humans can be rescued, but the slaughtered gargoyles are gone for good (except for the special case of the ColdTrio). If you're not careful, it could be easy for it to look as if where Demona and the Captain were to blame was not for coming up with the betrayal scheme and carrying out, but mishandling it in such a way that they didn't get the clan out before letting Hakon in, and that their deal with the Vikings would have been perfectly okay if the gargoyles hadn't been shattered in their stone sleep. (Note, for that matter, that in "Shadows of the Past", when the Captain gets redeemed, he's shown to be clearly repentant over bringing about the deaths of Goliath's clan, but there's not so much as a hint that any of the remorse that he felt was over turning Princess Katharine, the Magus, and the rest to the Vikings.)

Again, I don't seriously think that they could have done the betrayal of Castle Wyvern without the massacre; too much of the story hinges upon it. But it does make me wonder at times if it distracts us from what the real crime of the Captain and Demona was. What do the rest of you think?

Hm, it seems Greg's gonna be working on "W.I.T.C.H." season2. I wonder what "neato" things he has in store for us though, seing as how he's a producer and not a writer (?) for the new season (and from what I understand, the series is based on books written in Europe, so Greg is limited in what he can creatively do anyway, unless they make this an AU). I'm also surprised Disney is already paying for a season2 when season 1 hasn't even aired yet. Ah well.

good for you, Greg!

"They go back in time to bring a pair of whales back to the future. They get there by going REALLY fast around the sun."

I know.

I'm surprised at how much I remember.

Anywho. Concerning my story - HOW they travel back in time is by circling the sun really fast (silly, yes, but I don't know how else they did it in the Star Trek universe - then again I may be forgetting something? Anyone have ideas to make it not-so-silly??)

WHY they travel back in time was the thing I don't know. And no saving whales. Hehe.

Nah... never mind. That idea's just too crazy even for "Star Trek." :P

I found a Gargoyles/ST:TNG crossover on Fanfiction.net. Hehe. Go read it, it's kind of amusing. Sad too (I don't want to spoil it, but let's just say Elisa is only in the first chapter).

They do talk about the "similarities" of Riker to Xanatos and Troi and Demona. And Puck appears to Data, lol.

Here's an amusing part:

***

"Xanatos, I presume," said Commander Riker as he shook the newcomer's hand. "I don't know why Goliath thought I was you. I don't see any resemblance."

The others on the bridge looked at each other with an "is he crazy?" expression. Geordi spoke up, "Commander, he sounds exactly like you, and you look practically the same, too."

***

I'm still working on my own Gargoyles/ST:TNG crossover. But instead of the Gargoyles being on the Enterprise, the Enterprise crew goes back to 20th century NYC and meets the clan. I've barely started so I don't know the reasoning for their time travels.

(Breaks out of stone)

Spin off> They could do a CSI-esque thing with gargs in different cities like Vegas.

Hudson>And what is that? (points to Bellagio fountains)
Elisa>That's the Bellagio.
Hudson>Then I'll be Bellagio.

Brooklyn>MGM. I'm MGM.
Broadway>Tropicana.
Lexington>Caesar. Do you like it?

Bronx would be Hilton.

And they'd all live in the Eyrie hotel and casino.

Of course, these would be characters SIMILAR to the Gargoyles characters.

Then they could do Gargoyles:Boise, Idaho...

And another spin-off: The Apprentice with Dominique Destine. Anyone who's fired would see the Demona emergence and be thrown out of the top story of the Eyrie building.

Speaking of cross-overs, has anyone done a Gargoyles/Star Trek TNG fic yet? Given the gargs reference in "Generations" (Riker's "I plan on living forever" line at the end.), and the fact that some of the cast voiced characters in the show....you get the idea. ;) (I imagine Demona meeting Troi would be a real "WTF" moment for Demona. :D)

"Every time I think about gargoyles going onto the endangered species list, I picture Steve Irwin coming to New York for a closer look.

"That one there's the female. You can tell by the way the eyes glow red. Let's try 'n git a little closah. Crikey, lookit how that tail lashes from side to side. This sheila looks ageetated. Hand me that stick, Terry..." " - Patrick

hahah

"Be careful Steve, she looks mad!" - Terri
*Steve tries to approach the gargoyle, but looses his footing and grabs her tail by accident*
*Demona turns around, eyes glowing with a snarl on her face*
"Get off me human!" - Demona
"Crikey! Get the catchin' bag Ter!" - Steve
(then replace Macbeth with Steve in the "flight" scene in City of Stone)

:D

Yes I know its taken about 3 years to get it started. ;-) I've been working with these guys for 3 years and the art so far is really kewl.

For everyone that got a dvd card in the mail from me you also got some stuff we handed out at comic con for the gargoyles comic website. It's a fan run site and we are looking for fan fiction and spin offs and things like that for future issues.

The site it's self does not open till December. So if anyone wants to submit spin off ideas or Fan fiction stories they would like to see in future comic issues go ahead and check out the site. There might still be a few broken links.

Hey, isn't there an early, early pre-registration deadline for the Gathering 2005 coming up soon?

It's been said for a long time in the entertainment industry that there are really no new ideas out there, there's just new ways of telling them. You can go all the way back to the hero themes of ancient Greek literature and fit "Gargoyles" to one of them without trying too hard.

Captive breeding programs? If there's one thing the wildlife experts have learned from the Giant Pandas and the California condors, it's that you really need to have a full understanding of the biology and the behavior of the animal you're working with before attempting it. And studying that kind of thing's going to be hard to do when Broadway and Angela keep closing the curtains. "Crikey, they're at it again! But if we stay downwind, I bet we kin get a closer look."

And here's another spinoff idea. A reality show featuring Dominique Destine / Demona. Twelve contestants compete to become CEO's by day and sorcerors by night. Coming this fall, it's "The Apprentice II: Nightstone."

49 days left until the spell is broken and they live again! Gargoyles Season One comes to DVD on December 7, 2004!

Technically, almost anything these days can be accused of being a rip-off. "Gargoyles" itself could easily be accused (if you wanted to - I doubt that anyone here does, of course) of being a combined rip-off of "Batman" (nocturnal crime fighters with a batlike imagery who strike fear in the hearts of criminals, and live in either New York or a fictionalized version of it) and "X-Men" (members of an unpopular minority group protect the very humans who hate and fear them, particularly from embittered members of their own group who want to strike back vengefully at their persecutors - Demona could almost be viewed as a merged version of Magneto, in terms of motivations, and Mystique, in terms of appearance, under these conditions).

For my own part, my first choice for a spin-off would be the ones that Greg Weisman has already dreamed up. I'd explore them before looking for the other spin-offs.

Jay> Again, a spin-off centered on Matt Bluestone could be easily compared as a rip-off to an established genre series, like MIB or the X-Files for example.
I think the only way to get a new spin-off series that won't conflict with what Greg already has in his Master Plan or be even vaguely derivative of another franchise is to work with what is available: Shakespeare, mythology, and the last 10,000 years of known history and folklore, with little glimpses into possible futures (I don't like to think that the future is set under any circumstances, but that is another can of worms). Perhaps a series following what Demona did between the "City of Stone" flashbacks and "Awakening" in detail? It would allow her to meet various historical figures that could have influenced her, such as Nostradamus, Da Vinci, and other "enlightened" humans. Of course, she would meet other gargoyles and MacBeth occasionally, but in general she would be an anti-heroine, being forced to help the humans in order to get whatever doomsday device (Magical at first, but later scientific) she needs, and inevitably fails to get, and so she moves on.

There are certain things that to me are inherently funny, and "Gargoyles" being set on the Acadian Peninsula of New Brunswick is one of them. Of course, waking up in Bathurst means they'd have to have different names...and of course they'd talk in the local dialect...

(speaking to RCMP Constable Elise Arsenault)
"I don' need no name! Heh! You frigging humans et votre besoin etrange de naming t'ings. Honest to God, eh? Does dat dere sky, up there, la, does that t'ing need a name? How about that bay out dere, eh?"
"The bay's called the Chaleur."
<sigh> "All right, 'den, you win, eh? My name, from now on, je m'appelle Chaleur."
"Unless you mean dat small bay, out 'dere, cause that one is called Nepisiguit…"
"Doan' push your luck, 'dere, missy. Chaleur's good enough, eh? Chrissake, c'mon dere, Goliath, let's go. Monsieur Xanatos said he'd meet us down at de Legion for a beer, peut-etre les fish-and-chips aussi…

(later)
"Sure, she would 'ave been a good time last night, Chaleur, si tu as venu avec nous. We were down to de wharf, la, and we went up de road by Doiron's for a good time, oui…"
"Wait a second, wait a second, what's dat, eh? Chaleur? Since when…"
"Tais-toi, you little friggers, dat's my name now, eh? Chaleur. What would you make of it, eh?"
"Dat name, la, she's a fine name."
"Chaleur. Uh, I-I like it. It's some good."
"Eh, guess what? We should peut-etre choose some new names for ourselves, eh? Names dat better suit our new lives here in Bat'urst."
"I t'ought it was Bathurst?"
"Sure, say it wit' de "h" just like les maudits down in Saint John and Fredericton and all dat! Chrissakes. All right, what are your new names for 'ere?"
"Um…Caraquet. Yah, sure, dat's me, eh? Caraquet."
"Shippagan."
"Lameque. Eh, dat la, she's not too bad, eh?"
"No, no, biensur, 'dem are all fine names. Now what about him? For sure he'll need a name too, eh?"
"Heh, I got a name for him, too, don't you even t'ink about dat, oui. E's Miscou, now."

True, there's no specific clause in the endangered species act requiring protected entities reside on a wildlife reserve. However, I've no doubt that if such a proposal were to be made the point would be argued that because there are so few Gargoyles known to exist and with the likes of the Quarrymen on the lose their protection can only be assured under such conditions.

It's the same thinking that certain groups (hopefully fringe) are using regarding terrorism: they believe we need more laws that allow the government to track people's movements/actions for their protection.

I'll admit, I have a little Bluestone in me regarding conspiracy theories.

I guess all this is moot as Greg seems to have something worked out already.

On a different gargoyle, note I heard this story from a caller of Coast to Coast AM. Click on my name. If that doesn't work: http://www.coasttocoastam.com/gen/page662.html

There is no requirement that an animal must live in a wildlife preserve to be protected under the Endangered Species Act.

If Congress were to consider a "Sentient Species Amendment" they would almost certainly have to define who it applies to and not leave it to be figured out later. Otherwise, you'd probably have some well-intentioned folks out there attempting to apply it to the likes of Flipper and Koko the sign language gorilla, too.

Consider, though, that there is also not a single occurance in the U.S. Constitution of the words "humans" or "homo sapiens", and when the Constitution was ratified, the term "people" was interpretted to mean "white males." The Supreme Court has since broadened the definition several times, so make of that what you will.

Fifty days left until the spell is broken and they live again! Gargoyles Season One comes to DVD on December 7, 2004!

I have an interesting hypothetical: If they were going to make a Gargoyles spin-off other than one of the ones Greg has come up with, what would you be interested in seeing?

I myself think a "Demona's Life" show would be cool.
