I didn't care much for the Sci-Fi movie. I missed the first hour, and I still could pick up the storyline. Also, there were no charactoristics, that seperated those gargoyles from any other winged monster of horror films past. Even the legend surrounding them didn't give much insight.

Oh well, I guess when it comes to all things gargoyle, I'm used to a higher standard.

D. TAINA - I'm sorry about this, I really am, but I'm just not authorized to delete questions just because they've already been asked. I'm only authorized to delete questions that contain original ideas in them or have multiple topics. You'll need to raise the issue with Greg Weisman, rather than with me.

Happy Halloween, everyone! (Later this evening, I'll be fishing out my tape of "Eye of the Beholder" again, my Gargoyles tape for today. I watch it every Halloween.)

silverbolt>I'm still kind of un decided if I liked the witch show or not. I really don't like that art style. I am tired of the whole japanese anime look on american cartoons. To me it always looks like the cartoon is un finished or there is no detail in the art like with other cartoons like gargoyles. The whole big eyes no nose and tiny mouth things just don't apeal to me. I saw some of the cartoon at comic con and the comics . I really liked the story line but the art to me just looks like another cheap anime cartoon. Some people like that I just never took to the cheaper anime stuff. Cartoons like hellsing and anime like that I like cause it's more detailed looking and more beliveable. But then agian witch is marketed toward young girls so they probally dont care. If you want thoughs witch comic con promo comics ask me I'm trying to get rid of a lot of left over stuff from comic con. I still have gargoyles the dvd postcards left if anyone wants them still.

D'OH! I put two of the cutscenes backwards! For those who have downloaded it, they're "Gargoyles 023" and "Gargoyles 024." Just switch their names. For those who haven't, I reuploaded it. Sorry!

Ckayote: Heh heh, yeah. I remember. But sometimes, I enjoy the old games more than the new ones. For example, a few days ago, I let my litle cousin play Duck Hunt on my old Nintendo and I offered to show him how to do it after many failed attempts on his part. So, I picked up the zapper, started shooting ducks... and I was hooked. [LOL] I couldn't stop playing! And even my grandma played after I got so angry because I missed ONE duck and the dog laughed at me and then it was game over! It was great!

And not to mention that I've been hooked on that Gargoyles game not because it's Gargoyles, but because it's so challenging that you can't help but want to make it to the end. So yeah, just because a game is old doesn't mean you can't enjoy it, and just because it's new doesn't mean it's worth playing. Hmm, I'm going to play it again...

Yes! Greg posted a new ramble! Hound of Ulster's original title was "A Bronx Tail"?! Wow, I'll never look at that title the same way again... Let's hope there are more rambles on their way!

Todd: Why can't you delete repeated questions? They're obviously flooding the queue and they slow down the whole process enough for the real questions to take years to get through. What's wrong with deleting them? I doubt all those people who flood the queue, who don't even bother to check the FAQ or the archives, are going to bother to check back two years from now to see the answer to their questions.

Demona Taina: Thanks for putting up the cut scenes. Remember when that was state of the art? Nowadays I could probably play that on my cell phone. But it would cost like $2.99 a minute so I won't.

Alex Garg: I agree, but hey, it was fun for 1:00 in the morning.

Gantros>> It was definitely of the B variety, but in a fun way. It certainly has camp value, and the CGI gargoyle was kind of nifty, but there are other things I could have done with those two hours.

I had a good laugh, though, was when the lead CIA agent, Griffin, asked people to call him Griff. Given the title of the movie, it just got me.

But, no, didn't miss much. Sci-Fi's put on better originals.

I recommend the Gargoyles game to everyone. It's extremely difficult to beat, but it's so worth it in the end. You fight Vikings, Thor (twice!), giant robots, and Eye of Odin Demona. It's simply awesome, the music is amazing, and the stages are beautiful.

I've beaten it twice, but I cheated because I kept saving the game. Ah, the joys of emulators. ;) I just bought it off eBay, and as soon as I receive the Sega Genesis, then I'll find out just how difficult that game is to beat. But it's still fun!

Well, I beat the game today, and I took screenshots of each and every cutscene, including the "game over" ones. I put them all in a zip file and you can download it by clicking my name. I still have to take pictures of the stages and the bosses, especially Demona in her "ball of flame" form. But the cutscenes themselves are beautiful!

Vertigo: Nice banner! But I suggest you change the "1" to "one" and write it "season one" like this: "Season onE," or "SeasoN OnE," just like the Gargoyles logo (because, as you all know, it's "GargoyleS," not "Gargoyles"). And please change Goliath's color; he's purple. :D But it's great, I love the fire effect!

Just reminding you all about the two movies being played this evening on Sci-Fi. The first is "Darklight", which is Gargoyle-esque in that the main character turns into a winged creature. The other IS a Gargoyle movie with the title "Gargoyels: Wings of Darkness". The double feature starts at 7 PM PST. Click my name for a link to the official page.

Greg Weisman has just posted the ramble for "The Hound of Ulster" at "Ask Greg". We're finally getting rambles again - yay! Let's hope that the other 21 episodes (from "Walkabout" to "The Journey") are not far behind - all of them.

Many good bits here, including the revelation that the episode was originally to be entitled "A Bronx Tail" (they had to wind up saving that title for the Amish episode in the Goliath Chronicles), and an indication of what the name of Rory's home town is. (And Greg also mentions his regrets of Rory's similarity to the Mighty Thor in Marvel Comics - readers of TGS might recall that we even got in a little reference to that in one episode last year.)

Video Game> Thanks for the links and comments. I'm not sure if I'm willing to put in the effort to actually play the game since a) eveyone says it's really hard b) I frequently find older video games to have unresponsive controls compared to the newer ones i play now and c) I have enough ways to waste my time already. I was mostly just curious and wanted to see it in action. Oh well, there's always reruns.

"Ask Greg" Returns> While I'm glad to see it back, I do also worry that this will just create an ever greater backlog of already answered or pointless questions. Once again, Todd, I'm afraid most of the people who really need to hear your urging to think their questions over and check the archives are probably not coming to the comment room in the first place.

The ones that really drive me nuts are those along the lines of:

"Hi Greg. I looked all over the archive and I don't think you ever answered this question.

"Why did "Gargoyles" get cancelled?"

Sigh.

I discovered that last night and frankly was hoping that nobody would notice as to keep newbies from flooding the backlog again. If new episode rambles are coming, . . .

Frankly, Ask Greg is still behind by roughly 2 years, although the situation is getting better because there are only 35 questions left from 2002. [370 questions from 2003] It is not like half the backlog could/would be wiped out within a month of opening Ask Greg up to others to quote previous answers from Greg Weisman.

Speaking of which, what would be the expectations on questions handled per day by quoting previous Ask Greg responses?

On the other hand, now is a good time to slip in all the questions that were generated by Ask Greg responses.

Queue opening>> May I ask why?

Eclipse and Hunter's Moon >> I'm not sure that was the Hunter's Moon, but assuming that it was, I don't think a short eclipse would've affected the spell Todd mentioned. (You can still see the moon.) Heck, maybe it would have enhanced the spell, as the moon seemed to be blood-stained.

Except that the Golem is a genuine protector, while the Sentinels are the sort of protectors who evoke the question "Who's going to protect us from those protectors?"

The queue has been opened again at "Ask Greg". I urge everyone to think carefully and check the archives before posting new questions, however; we've already had far too many questions of the variety of "Why did the show end?", "Will the show return?", "Please send me a list of all of Oberon's Children", and so on.

Another thing aobut "Golem" I noticed is that it kind of looks like Nimrod, from X-Men:TAS. I find that resemblance rather ironic considering Gargoyles' airtime supposed to cut in half in favor of that series. X-Men:TAS isn't even all that great a series, it just rushes through the high points of the comics without stopping to look at the characters.

Siren> it's probably useless info by now (I doubt you still play the game), but the key to beating the elevator spider is to watch the Eye of Odin, just before it releases an electric pulse, it spins a bit faster. Just jump and flap to get out of the way and then climb onto the side of the elevator to destroy the arms by staying under them and punching them. Basically get close enough to the arms so you can hit them and they can't hit you, jumping away only to avoid the electric attack from the Eye.

Demonskrye> If you really want to see the game, play it even, on your computer, go to Edgeemu.com and go to the roms section and search under the genesis listing until you find Gargoyles (The one with the most downloads is usually safest). It's free but you have to go to another website for the emulator: arcadeathome.com and search around until you find it.

Be warned, unless you actually own the cartridge, you must delete the ROM 24 hours after downloading, or at least delete after you are done :P.

I played and beat Gargoyles on Genesis, and the story is severely stripped down compared to the series. Basically, you only have control of Goliath, who is the only "good guy" character in the entire game. No Elisa, No Trio, not even Xanatos (although he is "seen" in his red combat armor in a later level). The sole antagonist is the Eye of Odin, which possesses(sp?) a common enemy at the end of each level, powering it up into a more powerful boss, and then you have to pummel it into submission. The only familiar character is the final boss, Demona. This game, despite it's lack of plot and familiar storyline, is H-A-R-D, HARD. I couldn't get through the factory stage without activating cheats AND looking at the walkthrough on gamefaqs.com

More Attention for "Gargoyles"> This might have been mentioned before, but the G4/TechTV show "Judgement Day" - which reviews video games - featured the "Gargoyles" Genesis game as their "Buried Treasure"; a game from the past that not many people know about and that theoreticly can be found among a store's preowned selections for cheap. Of course, my idiotic cable box decided to go on the fritz while they were actually showing the game footage, which I've never seen. But still, anything to raise the profile of "Gargoyles".

Off-Topic Self Promotion> I've got another article up on JimHillMedia.com. This one is about Gertie the Dinosaur, without whom the clan and just about every other animted character might never have existed. Check it out and feel free to comment.

The lunar eclipse was stunning tonight! Mom and I were worried it wouldn't be viewable with the storm. But it was because the storm had ended earlier today that there was such a clear night sky. Chilly as heck, but well worth it to linger outside and see the eclipse. I loved it when it was half in shadow and half out of it, imagery of being veiled.

*Peeks inside* Wow... haven't been here, well, in ages really. *waves at everyone*

I thought I would pop in and just hey to every, I've been in University learning the ancient art of illustration. ^_^

The main reason I popped in is to give my support to Greg Weisman about his new show. :) I was in Amsterdam a few months back and while buying food in the supermarket with the rest of my classmates I noticed a comic that stood out among the rest of the magazines. That comic was WITCH! I couldn't understand what they were saying in the comic because it was all in Dutch, but the pictures told the story clearly enough to know what was going on.

I found out hte basic plot was to do with these five girls. Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin (Hey, that spells WITCH, how about that ;P) who discover they have magic powers and stuff and they have to protect this princess in another world I'm guessing from being overthrown. yeah, yeah It sounds corny, but actually, hte way they do it makes it really good. Remember, even things that have been done to death can still be fresh IF they take it on a course into uncharted waters of story telling.

Someone said here that this probably won't last and that it was in the same line as Dave the Barbarian (Walt Disney's head must be spinning in its cryogenic pod) well for one thing WITCH was more serious, even in this one issue that I have there was plenty of prsonal grief to fill a few dozen buckets, (One guy gets killed, or turned into a flower, I'm not sure why that happened, and I've said too much already, whoops) as well as laughs and because of that I wish Greg all the luck in the world, and please remember, just because it was in the style of manga, doesn't mean it has to be like totally spies. Demona didn't turn into a chibi when she got angry and started shooting things did she? *Go WITCH! Whoo!*

huzzah for a 101!!!!!!
*dances*
That was a lovely little jump up to and over our original goal :) Did any of us even see it at 100 first? It looks like we all caught it once it had gone to 101. Wow, and all this before Halloween even rolls around!
I know we can so totally manage 150 by Dec. 7!

Hi! I'm usually just a lurker although I have posted in the past. Anyway, I just checked Disney's website and they've finally listed Gargoyles as an upcoming release on December 7th, 2004. It's nice to actually see it on Disney's website. Yay!!!

Sorry for the double post, but...

It's funny. Buffy Season 7 comes out November 16th, and they only have 96 reviews on Amazon. :)

***Begin Announcement***

This is an important announcement from your resident Review Spokesperson. Our review count for the Gargoyles DVD has reached 101, meaning we have reached our goal of one hundred reviews. But that doesn't mean it's too late to add a review if you haven't already.

Thank you for listening.

***End Announcement***

Heh heh, "Review Spokesperson." I crack myself up! But really, this is great news! We have 101! Let's see how many more we can get before December 7th! :D

Happy Tinker Day!!!

(it's a Hollins thing)

According to the website (so I don't have to explain it): "Tinker Day, observed since the 1880s, occurs in October. It became an official holiday in 1895. The surprise element, which was introduced in 1899, adds to the excitement of the day. After the president's official declaration, classes are canceled and students, faculty, and staff hike Tinker Mountain attired in zany costumes for songs and a traditional picnic of fried chicken and Tinker Cake."

It's so much fun. It's raining unfortunately (too bad it wasn't yesterday, when it was NICE weather!) But I'm still gonna do it. Yay!!!

Coldstone ice cream is fantastic! There are a couple in my area, everyone always raves about the ice cream...haha, so sad the coolness of that name never struck me before.
Speaking of which, Posession is playing right now - hoorah for Puck and Coldstone!
Siren> awesome tidbit, I'll be sure to take a gander outside tomorrow night.

In review news, we're just a meager two reviews away from hitting 100!! I'm on the edge of my seat with anticipation for when those last two reviews come in.
And then....on to more reviews, haha.

In regular news, the theater department of my Uni is performing A Midsommer's Night's Dreame and a good friend of mine is playing Puck :) I can't wait to see it. Good timing too, because my Shakespeare class will be reading AMSND in another two weeks.

Watch the sky Wednesday night, there is supposed to be a "Bloody Moon" (when the full moon turns red during an eclipse). They are saying it should be pretty good this year because of the recent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The extra dust in the atmosphere should produce a redder effect than usual. I believe it should be visible around 9:15 pm, as long as it's not cloudy.

I've seen both the Olivier and the Branagh versions of "Henry V" (in fact, the local PBS station showed the Branagh "Henry V" only a little over a week ago); I've also seen a modern-dress version of it on video as part of an almost modern-dress version of the Wars of the Roses history cycle some years back. (It was pretty good, although I generally have my reservations about modern-dress productions of Shakespeare's history plays. I can accept a play with a made-up story such as "Romeo and Juliet" or "Othello" being set in post-Shakespearean times, but the history plays are based on actual events in 15th century English history, and staging them in modern dress can feel bizarre. Although I have seen good arguments for it - Ian McKellen did a movie version of "Richard III" set in the 1930's on the grounds that it made the storyline more accessible to an audience that was far less familiar with the Wars of the Roses than Shakespeare's contemporaries were.)

I wish Greg luck with his new project. I will have to make a point of downloading his episodes illegally off the internet.

As for the date, Disney might have the DVDs ready, but perhaps it'll take them longer to distribute them to the retailers?
Or maybe they didn't want it to compete with other Halloween-y stuff they're putting out in October?

Todd Jensen>Re:The DVD In october. Disney could of had it out in october if they wanted. They had it out at comic con for viewing just not for sale for promotional use only.

As far as witch they handed us out the manga version of that which is where the cartoon came from. The storyline is good but the art is really bad. It just looks like britney spears wanna be WB charmed girls walking around who have witch powers hehe. If anyone wants I could scan some art from the promo thingy if your really interested in that show.

SIREN - I understand what you mean. However, it's quite possible that Disney didn't think that it would be able to finish getting the DVD ready by Halloween, and had to choose December 7 to give itself more time.

Todd>I do wish it was released this month. Being the anniversary month and they mentioned it's 10th birthday on the DVD cover, which is misleading, as if December 7th was the 10th Anniversary. Also, I think October would have been a better month due to Halloween. Gargoyles isn't the holiday fare. The cover depicts something of a darker Batman or a tiny bit Spawn look. Just seems more fitting and it would get a better sale in October then in December. December of course has Christmas, but for theme wise, Gargoyles just fits better in with October. Too bad their Halloween episode (Eye of the Beholder) wasn't included on this release.

And of course I wish it was October rather then December because I could have owned it by now ;)

If I have any misgivings about releasing the Gargoyles DVD on December 7, they stem from the original significance of that date, rather than not meeting the exact 10th anniversary.

(Speaking of historical anniversaries, today, October 25, also known as St. Crispin's Day, is the anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt, most famous victory of King Henry V of England, the original Harry Monmouth.)

From what I've read about W.I.T.C.H., I don't know about the prospect of gargoyles getting in, but faerie-folk are supposed (if I remember correctly) supposed to have a major role in it - though these are apparently going to be ones made up by the series rather than traditional legendary ones like Oberon, Titania, Puck, or Queen Mab.

Sure...

Any fanfics out there based on the whole "Titania whispering" thing in "The Gathering, pt. 2"?

And Happy Anniversary Gargoyles!

Let's eat, drink, and be merry!

But mostly eat.

And dream of the Gargoyles DVD.

Could you imagine if at Halloween, Disney, instead of candy, gave out Gargoyles ads...

I don't think ANY gargoyles will make an appearence in W.I.T.C.H. I also find it hard to believe that there could be any reference to the gargoyles series per-say in the show. It doesn't have that kind of setting. :-) Though ....... I could always be wrong, I am a Castaway.

I didn't mean to imply that Greg shouldn't have taken the W.I.T.C.H. job. I don't begrudge Greg getting a job. I'm happy for him.

As for the "neatokeen" things Greg has planned for W.I.T.C.H., I'd rather see neatokeen Gargoyles things.

I guess I should rephrase my question/comment. Let's say that come January, after the Christmas sales are added up, Disney says "We just sold a million-and-a-half Gargoyles DVD's. Let's bring the show back." At that point, could/would Greg drop W.I.T.C.H. and dive headfirst into a new Gargoyles project?

Let me say again that I'm happy for Greg and his new job. I've enjoyed many of the things he's done since Gargoyles. But (with no disrespect) I am more of a Garg fan than a Greg fan.

Think of it this way Phil. Greg will be working on an active project for Disney, and along the way he'll be making friends. Whether or not they have any influence...I guess only time will tell. My point is, Greg has another chance to "strut his stuff" and I for one am happy he has a chance at it. This could easily be a very good opportunity because if Disney sees that Greg still has "the goods" then they'll be more apt to listen to what he has to say. Its simple business politics.

Remember Greg made a note on plans for "neatokeen stuff" he plans to put in the second season he is writing for. Since he put Demona in the mothballed "Team Atlantis" series, who's to say he won't put "Gargoyles" references in W.I.T.C.H.? I don't know what time period this series is in, so who knows? Maybe we'll see Oberon and his children make appearances (wouldn't it be great to have Brent Spiner and Kate Mulgrew reprise their roles of Puck and Titania, respectively?). I think the only direct Gargoyles reference Greg could get away with really is the Cold robots (Stone, Fire, and Steel), because Michael Dorn is pretty much a full-time voice actor now (I think the last thing he did was the R.E.G.I.S. robot on "MEGAS XLR"), and I'm sure he'd be willing to reprise the role of Coldstone again, if for no other reason than nostalgia.

Finally, for those of you who don't know, I'm 21 years old, 22 on Decemeber 9th. The reason I'm stating this is because I shocked members of my Corporation (it's an MMORPG clan thing) when I told them this. So, just laying down the facts on that matter.

Phil> Why couldn't he? It's not like he's been out of work since Gargoyles. He's worked on several series since then, for companies other than Disney. If anything, it's good that he's back at Disney because he might have more influence working "on the inside".

Matt Fews>Besides us, the major Gargoyles fans, not many people know Gargoyles birthday. And the DVD isn't actually out. It was Greg who recommended December 7th as being the best day and he's been in this buisness. Greg knows best. Not to mention, Disney told him that would be the best day to buy and they are mega sales reps. I think Disney and Greg would know better more then anyone. And since Amazon is one of the few places taking pre-orders, that means you'd have to have internet access, an Amazon.com account, and the willingness to order it online. Less people have that then you think.

Happy 10th Anniversary to "Gargoyles."

I was about to make the analogy "Can a person work at McDonald's and continue to eat at Burger King," but ABC Family and Disney are parts of the same company... so where is the conflict in Greg continuing to support "Gargoyles" while working on his new project? And hell no, I wasn't disappointed. Greg's got a family and he needs to work just like anyone else.

43 days left until the spell is broken and they live again! Gargoyles Season One comes to DVD on December 7, 2004!

Was anyone else disappointed to hear Greg's news about W.I.T.C.H.? Of course I'm happy for him and pleased that he has found a source of steady income, but that means he'll probably be less apt to push Gargoyles at what would seem to be a critical time.

Not only is the Gargoyles DVD a major milestone, but Disney Television Animation seems to be shifting its focus as well. There are fewer "kids in school" cartoons on now and more action/adventure shows like "Kim Possible" and "Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!" (Those are, of course, still a long way from "Gargoyles" but they're closer than "Recess".)

Maybe someone who knows Greg or the animation industry better than I can comment. Can Greg continue to push for a new season of Gargoyles while he's working on W.I.T.C.H.?
