Andrew>As a seller of OOAK items on ebay, I think you need to make the changes. For instance, most Disney's Gargoyles collectors use the words "Disney Gargoyles" in their search. If they simply search for "Gargoyles", you'll literally have 1000s of items that are or have the image of **A** gargoyle, but not THE Disney's Gargoyles. And even searching for "Custom Gargoyles". I could get still 100s-1000s of items that are custom gargoyles. For instance, scultures, artwork, t-shirts, mousepads, etc. Whenever you list anything on Ebay, you want as many words as possible that will bring the MOST people to your auction. IMO, as a seller, your title should be "Custom OOAK Disney Gargoyles Action Figures Clones". Adding the name Thailog will help too if it fits. Also, make note in your auction that your camera and lightning caused Thailog to appear green, but he is actually more of a grey color. Otherwise people will think you are colorblind, as to why he would be green. And you should have individual pictures up, as well as a large picture up to show more detail. From your picture, I can't see if there may be brushstrokes, or if the paint from their eyes bleeds into their face, etc. Ebay buyers are picky. They want to know ever last detail. Otherwise every day you will be answering questions about color and detail. For an example, please click my name to see my recently finished auction for my Last Unicorn My Little Pony. As you'll see, I took pictures from various angles and in various lighting. The castle background was in my home with normal home lighting. The other 3 pictures were taken in my yard in shade and in the sun. So her detail could be seen. Especially her eyes and horn. Lastly, I posted pictures of the actual movie so people could compare that yes, she does look just like The Last Unicorn, or at least as close as possible using an MLP.
Also read my description. I like to write as well. So I incorporate that into my auction. It's eye candy of sorts. If **I** sound excited then often so do the buyers. Happiness is contagious. If the description is flat and rushed looking, people won't think you care all that much and might not care about your auction either. I learned how to be a seller by trial and error, reading books, and working at an online auction service. Also, throwing in words like SALE!, MAGICAL!, AWESOME!, OOAK attracts people too. Even if it's not a sale, believe me, it works :)
I am not trying to critize you here, just friendly advice. I mean, if you were just selling a VHS movie, don't kill yourself. But being your items are one of a kinds, hand-made, and just all out neat, I want to see you be successful. Make it exiciting, have fun with it, the more fun you have, the more likely you'll have more bidders. Believe me, it was WORTH the extra fees (just under $6 total) to add all those pictures when my auction ended at over $100!

Thanks for looking. Thailog is actually dark grey. He's not green. Thanks for the tips. I'll make the changes if I need to. Angela and Elisa have sold. Check out the clones if you haven't yet.

I have the esteemed privilege of providing a copy of official correspondence from Bulwer-Lytton College on behalf of Professor Cordelia Haversham; as per her wishes, our official response to the recent rebuttal to "On The Word 'Gargess'" are to be posted here for discussion and comment. First, the correspondece, also posted on the fanfiction archive:

"Hey Eats Shoots and Leaves! Then what do you want us to call a female gargoyle if Gargess is sooo terrible? Flying woman? Bat woman? Or one you'd like, a Batess? Boobed front leather back? A Gargess may not be a real word, but it is now in our particular fiction universe. Hey Simon, don't criticize if you can't make constructive suggestions.... Ya moron. Oh I'm sorry, I wrote that out loud. Maybe you should look up that word and tell me what that means."

To which I replied:

Dear Addressee,

My name is Phineas Greeley, and I am the registrar of Bulwer-Lytton College. As always, we delight in your correspondance and thank you for taking the time to let us know of your response to the work of our esteemed faculty.

I have taken the liberty of forwarding your post, entitled "On Gargess" to Professor Cordelia Haversham, as it was to a lecture of hers that you were responding. Though her initial reaction was to mutter "oh, for God's sake" and dip into the sherry (something she's been wont to do of late, I'm afraid), she later came around and was able to compose somewhat of a reply, which is, in its entirety:

"What the bloody hell is wrong with just 'gargoyle'? The bloody name ought to be enough to tip us off as to the gargoyle's gender, unless she's named Bruno, and if the name can't cut it, then using the pronoun 'she' a couple of times ought to clear that right up."

She then stomped off to correct misplaced apostrophes in various signs around the campus, a growing epidemic, I can assure you! She did also wish to remind you that "criticizm" is misspelled, and that you ought to have used the more familiar "criticism" in the text of your post.

I do hope that you find this reply satisfactory. We here at Bulwer-Lytton College take very seriously our role as educators and edifiers of writers of fanfiction, as our years of service and our motto - ex faecundum, sapentia - attest to. Please feel free to contact us at any time.

Sincerely,

Phineas Greeley, B.A., M.A., M.F.A.

Andrew>Add the word "Disney" into the title, you'll get more hits. And "OOAK" doesn't hurt either. OOAK stands for one of a kind. Also, you should try and have a bigger picture for details. Even better, individual pictures of each character. I recently sold a Last Unicorn My Little Pony I customized and it reached $101.69 at the end. I fit as much crap to describe it as possible into the title. And had a lot of picture

NEWS FLASH: Crazy Canmore's Castle has been forced to shut its doors for good after all of its personnel mysteriously vanished last night, and the equally mysterious demolishing of the restaurant. Sightings of a female blue-skinned red-haired gargoyle in the area, shouting "Just when I thought that you humans couldn't sink any lower", have yet to be confirmed (and seem worthier of the Daily Tattler than of a responsible news organ).

A bit of semi-Gargoyles related news. They've come out with a stage musical version of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" called "Spamalot", and Tim Curry (the voice of Dr. Sevarius) is playing the part of King Arthur.

Which makes me wonder whether Sevarius would ever have turned up in the "Pendragon" spin-off had it been made. He'd definitely find the existence of Griff and the other London gargoyles interesting because of their strong physical differences from Goliath's clan (feathery wings rather than batlike, looking like lions, unicorns, and griffons rather than like "medieval demons"): it would offer him even more genetic variation for his bizarre experiments! (Of course, Griff obviously would not be the least bit keen on cooperating with Anton there.)

and given your definition of cannabilism, eating cows, chickens, fish or even plants is cannabilism. we are all branches of the same tree.

If there was such a thing as a gargoyle I would not eat it. Since their relation to us would be much like that of a double-trunk tree, their branches on their trunk in the same places in regards to our branches on our trunk, I would call it cannibalism.
Which also gets me thinking...
I don't know if this has been brought up or not, but could humans and gargoyles be genetically compatible with each other? The outcome should be interesting.

Wingless> well, we eat non-egg babies, like baby cow and lamb. gargoyles lay eggs and humans carry their young in a womb, but we still eat things that come out of a womb, so i don't know why gargoyles wouldn't eat eggs, esspecially if they are the infertile ones.

Siren> thats a good point, but a chimp is much more closely related to humans than it is to the monkeys it hunts and eats. i've heard of chimps snatching human babies and toddlers and eating them, and somehow that strikes me as more repulsive than, say, a shark eating a human or a wolf hunting a human and eating them. i think there is just this thing in my mind that gets grossed out when i see a similiar intelligence to ours hunting and eating us, and vice versa. i feel that as two somewhat sentient closely related species we should not be eating each other as a staple of our diets. in certain circumstances, even cannabilism is justified so eating a chimp would be ok, but there are people who make a common practice of eating chimp and gorilla. endangered species concerns aside, i feel that by hunting and eating our intelligent kin we are being somewhat barbaric. just my feelings and opinions. maybe i'm wrong, but its what my gut tells me. no pun intended.

Crazy Canmore's could also add a breakfast menu - Gargomlets(Feeds 20) or Gargicmuffins. Geez, this is gross to think about.

I mentioned this some time ago, that I feel Gargoyles might have a problem eating chicken eggs-or any sort of eggs for that matter. Might just be my way of thinking but still, seems like the act might sit a little too close to home for them to stomach.

Somehow I doubt the postal service is obligated to honor a "postage will be paid by addressee" return envelope if it's taped to a big box full of junk. The current security rules say that parcels and any article weighing over ten pounds has to be brought to a USPS office and handed over at the counter, so convincing them they should take it without makng you pay postage on it is going to be your first hurdle.

Now if you've got a fireplace... mass mailings make for good kindling.

Siren> I just heard something like this on the radio tonight. The method was how to get off of marketer lists. The one for telemarketers is a little risque, so I won't type that one. But the one for Junk mail is rather ingenious. Tape the prepaid postage envelope to a box, and fill the box with as much heavy junk as possible. Items described on the program included: Cinder clocks, garbage, dead fish, bricks. The strategy is that because the junk mail company has to pay the postage on the item, making it so heavy that it isn't in their favor to keep sending to you.

As for stuffing the pre-paid envelopes with junk mail, I've done that a few times. I stuff them to the point where they barely close and are on the verge of splitting the flap. :) However, one time I decided to be devious and instead of stuffing it with junk mail, I stuck in a picture of "tubgirl" and "Goatse". >:P (Those that don't know what I'm talking about, google it up. I will NOT link to those images here since that would definitely make Gorebash ban me on the spot...and they're definitely NOT work safe so do it at home.) Evidently it reached someone with a sense of humor and they sent me a picture of mickey mouse giving me the bird. :P

Todd>There's a website about a group of people who scam the con artists. They string them along for weeks, sometimes even MONTHS! And the con artists believe them. They post all the emails that they have back and forth. And finally they come out with it that they were scamming THEM all that time. I love it!

Another fun thing to do with postal SPAM...All those credit card applications you get. They send a postage paid envelope. So stuff the envelope with all the other junk mail you are sent (coupons, other credit cards, morgage companies, real estate, etc) and send the postage paid envelope back to the credit card company. :D I've never done it, but I've been tempted.

Any moment now we'll get a guy claiming to be a Nigerian with a lot of money that he wants us to accept and invest to keep it from falling into the hands of the local corrupt dictator.

I've occasionally felt tempted (though I've never done so since I know that you're not supposed to reply to spam) to reply to such an e-mail as follows:

"Thank you for e-mailing me with your information about the money. As it happens, I am in league with the corrupt dictator that you mentioned, and immediately passed your message on to his intelligence services. They were able to analyze your e-mail and figure out from it exactly where you and your money are, and now his troops are closing in around you to shoot you, take your money, and turn it over to the dictator who will use it to outfit more soldiers and build another wing on his palace. Congratulations, sucker!"

Ah yes, Lambert! I have that on VHS somewhere. I love it! But though it featured a lion with lambs, it was anything but based on the legend of the "lion and the lamb". Besides, the roles were reversed. The prey raised the predator as their child. While the Animal Planet story was beyond anything like that.

Agian I can't stress how much I apologize for it not opening in december. My grandma died and Ive been locked up fighting for my right to keep my house in probate court which led to slow openings. But like it states on the page it will be open before the gathering well in advance.

I am a big fan of collecting original production art from animated series. I have many pieces from Batman and Superman. I particularly like to get cells depicting the heroes with their women. I have Superman and Lois Lane, Batman and Catwoman, in addition to scenes with my favorite villians. I would love to get my hands on original production art from Gargoyles, particularly something with Elisa and Goliath sharing a special moment together. If anyone can help me out about how to go about that, I would really appreciate it! Thanks, Susan

Shara>The movie hasn't been made...YET. A studio has picked it up finally, but Alten can't say which yet. He was able to say a director is already signed on. Jan de Bont. He directed Speed and Twister, so I think he'll do great for this movie. I believe the shark is near the stages of being built soon too. There has yet to be any announcement on a cast, but the author told us more major updates are coming soon :D
I love the book Meg! I couldn't put it down! Trench was great too. There is a third book for the Meg series he is writing now as well. And talks already for making The Trench (Meg's sequal) into a movie. And the first one isn't even made yet! :P
I think the 3 most memorable scenes in the book are the beginning. Where the t-rex is caught in deep water and can't get back to shore and the meg killed the Tyrant Lizard King, just proving who exactly was the top predator, least in the ocean. And then the two scenes with the killer whales. That was disturbing to a point actually, but it was a great read

This might well be old news, but on my ISP home page they had a link to a video concerning real time computer animation. How it can interact live with people if needed. Several people operate the character-the voice actor(or the puppeteer) controls the mouth movement and facial expressions with a stationary exo-glove device. The body movement is controlled by a second person in a full exo-skeleton. The third person uses a set of elaborate joysticks to control the camera angles. My reason for bringing it up is that the character-which they called "The Devil" looks suspiciously like one of our gargs(sort of a cross between brooklyn & Lex). The system is being used now for television, movies and video game production. I was unable to find a way to link the video segment from G4techTV - but my link is of small picture of the character.

I invite your comments on the character though.

I don't know how many people here read "Prince Valiant", but the story that they're currently doing in the papers has a strong bearing on our present topic. Val and his youngest son Nathan, riding through Britain looking for adventure, are persuaded by a Pict to come up north to his home in Scotland, where his tribe is being plagued by dragons coming out from a nearby lake. In the most recent strip (which came out yesterday) Val, Nathan, and the Pict have just reached the same lake in Scotland and have found the skeleton of an enormous monstrous-looking marine creature on the shore. The strip hasn't said what the name of the lake is, but I have a pretty strong suspicion....

Anyone here ever hear of the author Steve Alten? He has written several books, including the best seller, Meg, about a prehistoric meglagon shark being discovered alive. As well as it's sequal, The Trench.

Anyways, a few years ago he had a poll for his fans to choose what subject he should write about. Loch Ness Monster got high ranks. I am a member of his newsletter and here is what he recently had to say about the book and the existance of the creature. Also, below a link is mentioned for video and photographs of an area where witnesses say they saw the creature. Click my name or copy paste: http://loch-movie.tripod.com/

The LOCH: More FACT than FICTION!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The LOCH, set to be released in May (Tsunami Books, ISBN 0-9761659-0-2) might just be the BEST Alten novel you'll ever read. It's filled with action, suspense, great characters, the bloody history of Scotland, and has already been called "more credible then many so-called non-fiction books about the loch." This from the Chief Curator of Natural History in Mesa, AZ.!
How is an author of fiction able to produce a thriller MORE FACTUAL than most Loch Ness Monster fiction books? The answer: research, great connections, and pure luck in the timing.
Guys, there are things happening at Loch Ness as we speak that are mind-blowing. Some of it is leaking out over the internet, but the best stuff has been saved for the novel, thanks to some non-disclosure agreements I arranged.
I'm going to let you, my most devoted fans, peak behind the curtain:
This whole thing actually began several years ago when I first started doing research for the novel YOU voted for. Many of you will remember the reader poll we placed on the website listing a choice of topics for my 7th novel. The LOCH won by an overwhelming 82%.
To be honest, at first I was very skeptical about doing a Loch Ness Monster book, simply because I didn't believe in the creature's existence. But then I began the research, and learned there is Loch Ness myth, and then there is some very real science that points to a mutation/creature that has been inhabiting Loch Ness over the last 70+ years. Yes, I know sightings date back 1500 years, but these were not the same creatures.
Here are a few FACTS about Loch Ness you probably didn't know:
* Loch Ness is 23 miles long and (in most places) a mile wide.
* It's water color is dark brown from peat run-off from the rivers. Visibility is almost zero.
* The water is very cold, near 42 degrees Fahrenheit.
* The Loch is deeper than the North Sea. Close to 900 feet in some places.
* There have been almost 10,000 sightings since the 1930s. Ninety percent are explainable. The rest are quite real.
* The Loch is connected to the North Sea by the Ness River.
* There may have been another underwater passage that sealed years ago after the local highway was dynamited.
* THE MONSTER IS NOT A PLESIOSAUR.
* The locals know what it is, but refuse to talk about it.
In late 2004, as I was finishing final edits on the novel, I received a call from a private investigator specializing in marine biology. I won't divulge who he is just yet, but his credentials are impeccable and he's worked with me before on two of my other novels. He knew I was writing a Loch Ness Monster thriller (he gets the newsletter too) and had his own theories about what the monster is, based on evidence he has been collecting since 1993.
To make an involved story short and sweet, he was calling me now, all excited, because several of his British contacts were him urging him to get to Loch Ness as soon as possible, that there were "things" going on. The investigator desperately needed money to make the trip, so he came to me with a deal: If I agreed to arrange his funding, he would give me the exclusive on the monster's identity, why it's hardly ever been seen, and the inside track on anything new that he found. I spoke with the people at Tsunami Books, and they wired him the funds.
It was a big investment with a BIGGER pay-off.
He went over in mid-December to meet with other investigators and speak to locals. On his very last day there, he heard about two frightened British tourists who had reported a rare land sighting the night before. He quickly tracked them down at a local eatery (easy to do in the dead of winter) and literally bribed them to take him back to where the sighting occurred.
What he found is documented Here
The investigator has urged me to ask YOU to spread this link around so that others may weigh in on these incredible findings and assist him in his on-going research. (He needs funding to continue his research) Because of our non-disclosure agreement, I cannot divulge what species (or mutation thereof) left these incredible tracks in the mud, but after he called me (frantic) from Scotland, I immediately stopped the printing of the hardbacks and added almost 100 new pages to The LOCH just to blend this mind-boggling information into the story. The delay cost us 45 days and a lot of money to meet our deadlines with bookstores, but it was well worth it. (If you pre-ordered the book on Amazon.com at $25.95, you'll notice the price recently went up $2.00 to cover the additional pages).
The LOCH is still fiction, but very believable, and may end up being your all time favorite. But don't take my word for it, see the early reviews (below).
While The LOCH is now at the printers, more bizarre accounts are still going on at Loch Ness. God only knows what else will happen between now and throughout the summer, which is why I am asking you to spread the link around for our investigator. In exchange, he's agreed to send us any new developments as they happen. (The locals bottle up as much as they can, they do NOT want Nessie's identity revealed, as it could affect tourism. The two eyewitnesses, as you'll see, were quite frightened).
The investigator is hard at work on documenting this new body of evidence and hopes to return to Loch Ness sometime in the summer. You will begin hearing from him on radio shows after May 1st. Until then, I own exclusive rights to his information and refuse to release it so that my readers will not have their fun spoiled.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I didn't know the Loch conntected to any sea, which is intriging in itself. But if for nothing else Mr. Alten did his research in a major way.

Oh, my avatar's voice actor reminds me that I need to once again encourage everyone to check out Carnivale Season 1 on DVD. Season 2 is excellent. Almost finished. Building to something big. Clancy Brown is doing some of the best work of his career as Brother Justin, no question.
