KRIS> Nice touch with the "Æ" in ÆON Flux. I saw that DVD set at Future Shop. Looks WAAAAY past cool. That some kinda Japanese thingy right?
Kris> Have you noticed Future Shop not having the ammount of new releases it once had? I mean, I went to buy King Kong and they didn't have it. They only had the expensive one, not the cheeper one. And this isn't the first time they haven't had the new release I've wanted. I like to shop there cuz it's Canadain, but Best Buy is forcing me to shop there... bah!
DVD's> My pet peeve is when "Special Editions" have no insert and only one bonus feature. In other words, when Special Editions just plain suck. I mean, honestly, how much does it cost for a lousy insert??? and we're paying BIG $$$ for these pieces of plastic, do them up right!!!

Did anyone else pick up the DVD set for ÆON Flux that came out this week? THAT is how well-respected animated shows should be released. It's how ANY show or film should be put out on DVD. The cover is beautiful, yet simple and iconic. Not overcrowded, no ugly art, no "big head/face shots" (personal pet peeve of mine that's common for book/DVD cover choices), and the overall package design is perfect. The extras are extensive and informative. It even comes with a bonus series soundtrack if you buy it at Wal-Mart (in the US) and Future Shop (in Canada). I'm re-watching the series and I was only 12, maybe 13 years old when it originally aired, so there was a lot I didn't catch or fully understand originally. I also didn't see all the episodes, so a lot of this is brand new for me. It's a lot smarter than I remember it being. Damn good sci-fi.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that Season 2 Part 1 of Gargoyles is even more filled with extras than Season 1 was, but if we could get a Gargoyles DVD set like Aeon Flux's, it'd be perfect.

Todd: That site you linked is something like The Onion, right? At first, I thought it might be real...
I asked a question last week, and didn't get an answer, so I'll ask again. Please respond if you have an answer, as it's kind of important: If someone asked me for an official site for the Gargoyles DVD, what would I give them? This site is the closest there is to an official Gargoyles site, but it doesn't have the DVD information in a compact manner (at least, it must not be very clear at a glance, considering the number of people who Ask Greg when the DVD is coming out). So I wouldn't much want to direct people here if all they want is to know how to buy the DVD, or they might wander into Ask Greg, ask him, not get an answer, and give up on the whole thing. There was a site called something like gargoylesondvd.com, but I can't find it. Basically, what I want is for me to be able to tell someone about Gargoyles and then have them click a link that will explain to them exactly what the status of the DVD is and how to buy it. Anyone have a suggestion?

I like the "letter from Greg" on the inside flap and I think the disc art looks pretty good, though it's very hard to see. But that back cover? Ewwwww. It just looks so thrown together from whatever Gargoyles artwork was lying around. And I've long hated that close-up shot of Goliath's roaring head. Unpleasing and off-model. It's prbably m third least favorite piece of Gargoyles promo art, behind the VHS Heroes Awaken box art and that Disney Adventures cover.

While most of us, at least, would like to see "Gargoyles" return in one form or another, I can easily imagine that there are a number of ways in which we would certainly not want to see it return - ways that, if they were used to revive the series, would cause most of the fans (if not all of them) to comment that it would be better off staying dormant than returning in that form. I've thought of a couple of them, but there are probably many more out there.
1. The revival opens with the Quarrymen successfully slaughtering every gargoyle in the world. The criminals in New York and elsewhere take full advantage of the situation to step up their crimes with no gargoyles around to interfere, and the Illuminati, concerned over the fact that the crime rate is escalating to a dangerous level, to the point where even they won't be able to control things, decide to remedy the situation by getting the blueprints for Xanatos's gargoyle armor and manufacturing some extra copies, then persuading a group of humans to use this gargoyle armor to battle crime as the gargoyles' replacements with a very noticeable "Power Rangers" tone to it.
2. Gargoyle Babies - infant versions of the gargoyles, very "caring and sharing" in atmosphere.
There are probably more, but these are the ones that I can think of most readily.
