If SLG is doing a reprint then I'm gonna buy the new book. No sense for me in replacing it. I hope that all of you who are financially able will buy both versions. Good for SLG that they are doing a reprint though, I suppose they'll fix the title page, double page AND Scarab logo errors?

Just got an e-mail from SLG. I'm copying and pasting the part that is relevant:

"I thought I would take an opportunity to get into the weeks burning question before the new releases, that is "What is going on with Gargoyles #6. If you bought a copy of Gargoyles #6 in a store last week, then you bought a misprinted copy. SLG is reprinting the issue this week and replacement copies are coming next week. We have not listed the issue on our website yet because we prefer, in the case of Gargoyles and a couple of other comics, not to overload our system with preorders. As soon as good copies arrive in our warehouse we will list the book for sale. If you bought a bad copy in a comic store, they will be getting replacements about the same day we do and they should (but may not) replace your bad copy. If they do not replace it then all you need to do to get a no-cost replacement is tear off the cover of the bad comic and mail it to us and we will send you a replacement. If you get your comics from Amazon.com, then do not worry, they will only be getting good copies."

what about getting something similar to the communicator thingie Goliath had in Re-awakenings? it may not be good for long distances. but it's a thought *shrugs*

Actually I don't see that much of a problem with cell phones. The current ones' buttons are too small for my taste already, I use my finger nails instead of the whole finger, Gargoyles could do the same. Though their nails would probably work even better on touch pads.

***Possible Spoilers***

Since the clan feels more inclined to leave the castle since they can be attacked at their home anyway (Gargoyles #6), and knowing that some of the clan will be going on a road in the next issue (Gargoyles #7), I was wondering if the Manhattan Clan will adopt any form of communication between each other when they are separated, whether it for long distances or short distances.

It would have been nice if Goliath could have contacted his clan to let him know that he, Elisa and Bronx were all right during the World Tour, instead of the clan wondering where they were and having that feeling of abandonment that plagued Goliath's mind (Future Tense).

With the Gargoyles back in comic book form, I guess I'd like to see the Clan not only grow, but evolve. So whether it be a cell phone or some kind of communication tool, I think it would be beneficial to their survival.

To play my own devil's advocate, I can see that they don't really need cells since they usually use the buddy system and always find a way to get out of a tight spot because someone always comes to the rescue. I definitely did enjoy that Delilah was able to save the day (Gargoyles #5) without breaking a sweat.

All in all, I do look forward to the "Clan Building" and maybe eventually some clan evolving.

I'm sorry, the fingers you have used to dial are too fat. If you would like to order a magic dialing wand, please mash the keypad with your palm now.
Sebastian

Those are some great photos of the precinct. It looks so cool.

Phones> I think gargoyles wouldn't have that much of a problem with cellphones in regards to crushing them. After a couple tries, they'd adjust the strength and pressure to work. I can see a few problems with the keys, especially with the smaller, multifunction phones (I can barely use my mom's phone, which is a Blackberry, I think, the buttons seem so small.). I think for the Manhattan clan something more like walk-talkies would be preferred. It's not like they have that many people to call outside of the clan, and within the clan, it'd be good for getting others aware of a situation fast.

Asatira

I think Gargoyles could probably benefit from something SIMILAR to cell phones...like the radios Patrick mentioned. I don't see them using regular cell phones though. If they did use cell phones, it'd probably be more of a hands-free design, and calling might be voice activated. So instead of pressing some numbers you'd just say "Call Goliath".

I dunno, I just don't see big gargoyle talons as being all that good at pressing buttons. If they were going to press buttons the phones would have to be really big and that would just look silly.

Rebel - [rebel2004nay at yahoo dot com]

The two-way radio system we've already seen the Manhattan clan using is a lot simpler solution for keeping in touch while on patrol. It's the same purpose-built technology used by NYPD and FDNY.

23rd precinct building - Wow, what a beautiful building. Mind you, it would look alot better without the window air conditioners. Still-Wow!. Maybe that's where they move to after the clock tower gets destroyed. Just a thought.

Cel phones- I don't imagine they being an issue for long. The technology issue can be overcome by programming key numbers accessible by a single number press. The size of them certainly could be an issue for Goliath. They'd have to find in one of those old Motorola beasts from the early days of Cel phones(I won one of those in a radio contest eons ago-and gave it away).

Wingless

I just got back from seeing Wilco in Charlottesville. Aside from seeing Jethro Tull in Baltimore eight years ago, that was the best concert I've been to. They f**king cooked.

Gargoyles with cell phones: well, they'd barely cost anything. The gargoyles would never use them during the day, and I think a lot of plans offer unlimited minutes at night. I actually had Demona use a cell phone in a fanfic of mine. It actually annoyed her, because the buttons were so small. So I can imagine Goliath breaking his, since dialing it would probably be a bitch unless he can get one custom made.

Greg's said the London Clan have phones, and the town of Ishimura probably has public phones, or stores would let a gargoyle use their phone. Probably by 2007, both clans will have at least some cell phones.
Vaevictis Asmadi

Jarrod's question in Ask Greg about the 23rd precinct (which Elisa worked at) sent me on a quick google run.

Indeed, it is a castle of sorts. Here's the front of the station:
http://www.ronsaari.com/stockImages/nyc/23rdPrecinct.php

On this page, about 3/4ths of the way down, are several more photos of the front of the station:
http://www.policeny.com/thehousemanhattansouth1.html

Very very cool. Greg says Michael Reaves picked the precinct number. If you hit up Google Maps and type in 156 W 30th St., New York, NY and use the street view feature you'll find yourself standing right in front of it.

There's also a book out there called "23rd Precinct: The Job" which chronicles the author's time spent with the 23rd. The time covered? 1995-1997.

Huh.

Gorebash

Cell Phones for Gargoyles> It's actually not a bad idea, considering that the clan is frequently scattered around the city. Someone might have need to call for backup, or to let the rest of the clan (Elisa in particular) know where he or she will be roosting for the day when unable to make it back to the castle in time. It definitely seems like something a gargoyle clan could use, though if larger clans like the London clan and the Ishimura clan get in on the act, thet's gonna be one sizable phone bill. Though of course, if they get unlimited nights, no problem! :)

What do Gargoyles need with cellular phones?

Since no one else has mentioned it here yet... The Gathering 2008 website has received a major makeover, and a ton of new information is now online. Updates include:

Ticket information for the KEITH DAVID CONCERT on Friday evening of the convention, including video of Keith singing.

Submission guidelines for the Items of Enchantment Anthology.

Expanded registration section for online and by-mail convention registration.

Video of last year's Radio Play.

I think Goliath is going to need an entire page. His name is "Goliath", after all.

I'm willing to accept the Shari = Scheherezade theory, based only on the fact that Greg has yet to introduce a new key player who does NOT have a very long and interesting backstory. Macbeth... the Hunters... it fits.

Michael E.> Good question, but I doubt it's completely known to the general public. I'd imagine that it's something where you need to become very trusted among the city's homeless community and maybe after a while, someone will let you know about it. Shari was probably "undercover" for a while before she got access. She and the Illuminati may have been aware of it already, but just showing up uninvited might have aroused too much suspicion.

URLs will now be detected and automatically be converted to links. This modification has been retrofitted to the CR archive as well. The regex to get this working is huge simply because I followed the URL RFC (1738) instead of hacking together something smaller. I also had to add a few hacks to get around not re-linking existing links (archives have all the HTML hard-coded so it's possible to have something like <a href="<a href=" if I'm not careful.

So if you catch something not working properly let me know.

And I'm also hoping this isn't vulnerable to some sort of embedded script hack. I don't think so given how it's coded but I guess we're gonna find out.

"I did the math because I was curious to see how many Illuminati there'd be under that system. Then, when I got to the thirty-five Thirty-Fives, and realized that that made 630, and that adding 36 to that would make.... "

Math trick: There's actually a shortcut for adding every consecutive number up to a point. Just multiply half the number by one more than the number. So 18*37=666. Thanks to that knowledge and my being in the radio play, I can claim I was the first one on Earth, outside the production team, to know the Illuminati's membership. It's a nice feeling.

That is all I will say.

Itty bitty SPOILER ahead.

Thailog's Toga> Just because it's come up a couple of times, I think the reason Thailog's toga doesn't turn to stone with him is because he doesn't yet consider it an extension of himself. I'm guessing it's not a permanent costume change for him; it's just something he's trying out for a night because the fancy struck him. Since he's not attached to it the way he would be his regular armor, which he wears quite frequently, it doesn't turn to stone. Greg has revealed in recent answers that it was his decision made in the script stage, so it's definitely intentional.

I wonder why this particular specification was built into the humility spell? Maybe so that if a gargoyle happened to be holding onto a person's garment at dawn, that cloth wouldn't turn to stone as well just by virtue of being in contact with a sleeping gargoyle?

Well, I got my copy of #6 today, & the one thing that stood out was, unfortunately, the error on page 12. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed it.
The story was great. I liked the idea that it was kind of a flashback story that took place during 'The World Tour' storyline in the original series (obviously not too long after 'The Green', given Elisa's 'rain forest' comment on page 4), & I like Shari's comment that the story she told Thailog might not be true, though her comment at the end might be a confirmation that the story is indeed factual. I also got a chuckle out of Elisa's idea about skipping the adventure & trying for Hawaii (Elisa in a string bikini? Yum Yum! :P). Overall, the story was great, & the artwork was fantastic. Can't wait until #7 hits the stands.
btw, I did a little calculating regarding the organization of the Illuminatti, specifically the number of each member (1 number 1, 2 number 2's, 3 number 3's & so on up to 36). Anyone else besides me realize that it adds up to 666? (Holy CRAP! :o )

Greg Weisman
"How could I not believe in animism? Every time I get on my bathroom scale, proof is there before my eyes of the sentience (and perversity) of all things."

I was thinking the Shari/Scheherazade thing (if intentional to begin with) was more of Greg having some fun framing a story from the past into the current storyline with a nod towards 1,001 nights. Perhaps a bit of artistic license, but not to hint at a real connection between Shari and Scheherazade.

That said, it would help to explain how she's an eight at such a (seemingly) young age. But if she is Scheherazade does that necessarily make her one of Oberon's Children (or should I call them Djinn for the moment)?

Right now I like sticking to the simple. She's just putting up with Thailog because he's needed to serve a purpose for the Illuminati and she's there to make sure that purpose is served. If indulging him every so often in "little" things (like feeding him grapes) helps make Thailog get things done, so be it.

Gorebash

I very much the Shari hypothesis.

**********SPOILER TAG**************
Without it, the whole setup of issue 6 is weak. Why would Thailog be wearing a toga, why would she be feeding him/telling him a story. If she was sent there by the illuminati, she could pull rank (I assume). Even if she is truly there just to assist him (I doubt it), then under normal circumstances that would be too demeaning.

I think every sentence that Thailog and Shari say in issue 6 hint at her being Scherazade. I think Greg would hope people would get it by now, because whole story telling does not make much sense otherwise.

Unless someone can think of another reason that she would be telling him a story?

Sebastian

Of course, Shari (assuming that she's indeed based on Scheherazade, whether intended as the actual character or a modern-day counterpart) isn't the first "Arabian Nights" allusion in "Gargoyles". The honor there goes to Puck's mention of Aladdin's lamp in "The Mirror".
Todd Jensen
Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

I agree that the issue of Thailog's toga not turning to stone is an interesting one. For all the confidence he exudes, he clearly seems to have some insecurities. I would guess he doesn't feel "worthy" to wear such clothing. It's possible that when Shari caught him off guard right before dawn, that threw him off his game. If Hudson's sword turns to stone or stays metal depending on his mindset, it's possible that Shari's revelation could have made Thailog's confidence plummet and that stopped his clothes from turning with him. Does this make sense?....

Anyway I think the question about being 'voluntary' would be an interesting one for Greg.

Rebel - [rebel2004nay at yahoo dot com]

Rebel - <You would be surprised at what you can get someone to do "voluntarily" (this would be especially true if you are the illuminati).> I might submit the question about "voluntary" cooperation to Ask Greg, but not until there are several more questions behind my last one. Right now, I'm happy to see my two questions about issue #6 are up next, especially about Thailog's clothing not turning to stone. http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=9384 explains why this question is an interesting one and the answer would give insight into Thailog's character.

I am, and was, aware of the rules of soul transference. You would be surprised at what you can get someone to do "voluntarily" (this would be especially true if you are the illuminati).

That said, I really don't think that was a very *likely* possibility...it was just something I was throwing out there. Still, I don't think it ought to be eliminated yet. Just my opinion though.

Rebel - [rebel2004nay at yahoo dot com]

Rebel - <There's also the possibility that she could merely be the SOUL of...um...that girl you are all talking about (sorry can't spell it) in some other girl's body.> I think you might need a reminder about the rules of soul exchange in the gargoyles universe. Towards the end of "Possession", Puck says that soul exchanges are tricky because they require **voluntary** participation. Unless you want to ask Greg about the hypothetical question about if somebody facing coercion can voluntarily participate in soul exchange, I would rather eliminate that possibility. Besides that, why use a messy organic body if you can get a powerful robotic body? Indirectly, that brings up one of my theories about Jackal and Hyena's potential ultimate upgrades, which I will not discuss in this cr.

"We're not the last. We're not alone." - Hudson

Well, Puck was banished forever from Avalon. Even if she IS full-blooded Third Race, how do we know this didn't happen to her as well? It's always a possibility. And to be honest there's a lot more history to Avalon and the Third Race than we know. Maybe Shari's last time on Avalon was before Mab was overthrown. Or maybe she was a Mab sympathizer. I don't know if I necessarily *believe* all these things, but I'm just throwing out possibilities.

There's also the possibility that she could merely be the SOUL of...um...that girl you are all talking about (sorry can't spell it) in some other girl's body. Sorta like how Othello and Desdemona took over Broadway and Angela's bodies in "Possession". Given how much power the Illuminati has, I doubt that it would be impossible for them to get access to magic that would allow them to transfer souls around or bodies to put the souls into...who's to say the Illuminati doesn't have a whole slew of famous people from olden times running around? That would certainly add interest...

Then again there's also the possibility (as someone mentioned) that she could merely be a devoted descendant. If the Canmore family is any indication, it's certainly possible for descendants to devote themselves fully to their ancestor's callings...

I rather like the idea of Shari being a form of Scherezade, though skeptical if she is the original one. Definately shares the profile. Makes her even more interesting.
Asatira

Even the revelation that Lexington is the real villain in "Future Tense" (though it's still a complete shock) gets some subtle foreshadowing. For example, take a look at the scene where Lex is picking up on the deaths of Matt, Claw, and Bronx, and notice the way that his eyes look there. Then, when Goliath's confronting the Xanatos Program in cyberspace, at one point, "Xanatos's" eyes develop the same look. I'm certain that that was deliberate.

And I also think that Greg would be pleased and impressed that we were suspecting such things already - it says merely that we're good observers.

TTT> Did you look at the "Timedancer" article like I suggested? Brooklyn's potential visit with the dinos is the first trip mentioned in the last paragraph. It should also answer any other questions you or anyone else has about Brooklyn's adventures (at least, all the answers we know).

Matt> Fair point that all the Third Race members except for Puck should be home on Avalon right now. So what possibilities are left? Illuminati life extending treatments? So far we haven't seen direct evidence that they're able to keep people alive and young for that long, but it's possible they only distribute that treatment to higher ranking members. New Olympian (in the sense of "child of a human and a Third Race member, not literaly from New Olympus)? We don't really know what kind of lifespans they can have. Maybe she's not even the original Scheherazade, but a descendent or someone with a connection to her who somehow inherrited her gift for storytelling.

If this is true, given that he's been putting in clues, I'd like to think Greg would be pleased that someone figured it out before the reveal. It doesn't seem like something that's meant to be a total never-saw-that-coming shocker (like Lex's final reveal in "Future Tense"). It's not blatantly obvious either, but there are clues and if this explanation is correct, it does all make sense when you think of it. So hopefully, Greg will just be proud of how smart some of his fans are.

Demonskrye

I also think that the "Shari = Scheherazade" notion is a great one. I hadn't considered it until Jack mentioned it, but it does fit her. She might be intended as a counterpart to the "Arabian Nights" character, of course (in the same way that the ColdTrio are counterparts to Othello, Desdemona, and Iago) - but she also might be one of those very long-lived Illuminati members. (After all, Duval's probably still intended as being Sir Percival.)
Todd Jensen
Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

This is a great idea! Whether or not it's true, I still wonder how old she is. Matt is right she's probably not Third Race.

In other news, don't know if Greg announced this yet (or if he was trying to keep it a secret) but he's going to be back at Convergence for 2008. No idea if there'll be another Gargoyles panel, though.

Woah... Do you remember what Shari said to Al in "Invitation Only"?

Al: "It's a long story."
Shari: "I'm partial to long stories."

On top of her eagerness to tell a story to Thailog, I'd say this gets more and more likely. Good ole Greg. If this is true, I hope he isn't upset that people have figured it out.

Shari/Scheherazade> Yeah, good call, Jack. Even the names are similiar. If they are not one and the same, then it's a pretty interesting coincidence. I doubt shes a Child of Oberon though, arn't they all on Avalon (minus Puck)? As per usual in the Gargoyles Universe, even if this link is correct (and there is no proof it is, only speculation), it opens up a whole bunch more questions.

We shall see.

A little issue 6 discussion ahead, so potential small SPOILERS.

Matt> I think Incisivis was referring to the fact that, in the show, Coldstone's non-cyborg parts often looked very similar in color to Othello's blue-grey skin tone, making it hard to get at a glance that he's essentially an undead gargoyle made of reanimated stone. His coloration in the comic is more definitely rock grey.

Jack Pumpkinhead> Wow, that makes so much sense I'm kicking myself for not thinking of it before. Especially given the way she's portrayed with Thailog in issue 6; it's very evocative of Scheherazade and the Shah. I'm not sure I'd put down cash money that you're right, but I think that's an excellent hypothesis. It still brings up the question of what exactly she's doing with Thailog (I really like the character of Scheherazade so I'm hoping she's not going to be completely behind whatever nastiness Thailog has planned) and adds the new question of how she could have survived so long. I think Child of Oberon is still a definite possibility.

Demonskrye

I am still waiting for my copy of #6, but according to the evidence I've read...does anyone else think Shari is actually Sceherezade? From 1001 Arabian Nights? I mean, let's look at the evidence; middle-eastern complexion and skin coloring. thing for long stories that take time, even days to tell. That's all I have now, but still, consider how many other legends/myths/storybook characters have appeared? I mean, this is like Fables by way of Disney, short of Bigby and Bufkin

Incisvis> Coldstone is always gray because he is living stone. Othello was a pale blue gargoyle. Coldstone's coloring was not changed for "Reunion". And they were not in the polar regions, they were in the Himalayas in Tibet.

I got issue 6 last Friday. SPOILERS
******************************
The story was fairly easy to predict once you knew what it would be: but still, it answers a few questions, and feels like something that should have been in the series from the start. Among the questions were how Coldstone ended up in the polar regions and why Angela wasn't surprised to see him in "Possession" but more importantly is the Coldtrio's discovery of the Avalon Clan. That was a touching moment.

I'm glad that Gargoyles is sticking to its guns when it comes to making this alternative view of a family heritage and parenting, as Coldstone sees Angela as a "rookery daughter". It always bothers me when fandom likes to dismiss this part of Gargoyle custom.

I agree that Coldstone comes off as worryingly excessive in his "acting" as Iago, though that is part of his character, to be aggressive and sometimes not instantly moral or thoughtful. It's an interesting personality he's got.

Coldsteel is still the real villain, and I'm glad those last few panels were in there: they give the issue some more impact, and rewards people who thought they already knew what to expect.

Purcell's art isn't too bad, but could have been improved with stronger linework and bolder colours. I'm liking the adjusted colouring for Coldstone (more grayish than his light teal).

Strange dreams... ah, why not?

I had a dream last week that I was in the movie "Rocky III." Literally, I was a spectator close to the ring, but for some reason, Apollo Creed was fighting Clubber Lang instead of Rocky. And they weren't actually fighting. I couldn't hear anything they were saying, but it sounded like they were trash-talking each other. And then Rocky entered the ring by stepping across the backs of his fans, and he and Apollo Creed exchanged shorts.

I blame the fact that I'm living out of a hotel until this Friday, and as a result, have been eating a lot of heavy food out of boxes (while weaning myself off an antidepressant). Still, best dream I've had in a while.

Bad guys cover- I didn't think that was the final copy, I see no problem with it being in the Gargwiki. I actually like that drawing of Yama.
So I suppose each cover of Bad guys will feature each character-Matrix, Yama, Fang, Dingo, and Robyn-and maybe the last one will be the director, or a group shot. I think that's pretty creative.

AMV's-Not really much I can add to this conversation other than what's already been said. I hate when people go after AMVs, especially since they're pretty much free advertising. I know of a number of people who got interested in an anime (Princess Tutu. Despite the name, it's really good) via an AMV that was shown at an anime convention and online. And in many cases, if possible, people will use things they've gotten legally. And they are not as bad as uploading episodes because they AREN'T the full episode by any means. No one is making money off of these. The harm is minimal, if at all. What's the problem?

Vaevictis Asmadi, that seriously bothers me as well. Not to mention, I have talked to several people who's creative works I've used. Just to name some names:
Seven Nations (a band)
Alice Cooper
Don Bluth
Gary Goldman
Peter S. Beagle

I have shown them just what I do with THEIR property and they LIKED it. They didn't feel threatened by it at all. Alice Cooper said his and many other artists main issue is with programs like Limewire. Fan videos didn't bother them at all. Like I said, Peter S. Beagle and his publisher know full well what I do, hell, I EMAIL the really good ones I make to share them with them. Connor, his publisher, even stuck up for me in a message board when people critized me saying I was no different than the people who upload the movie. He said quite the contrary. Two of my TLU unicorns were made SOLELY to help sell the DVDs and gave the website address right on the video on where to buy them. Two of my Gargoyles videos are trailers/commercials to sell the DVDs. I plan to make another to also advertise the comic book.
If LiveVideo bans me one day too, I'll just find another way to share my videos. They will have to throw me in jail and take away computer privledges to get me to stop my favorite hobby. I have taken up a tong of hobbies over the years and nothing has kept my interest except video making.

This is SOLELY the big businesses anal retentive issue. I am sure there are some authors/creators/writers/artists who don't like the fan videos. Perhaps they feel their songs were used disrespectfully in someway, but I see fan vids as a way to share what you love. I've had so many emails telling me my videos got people to BUY the Gargoyles, TLU DVDs, among many other DVDs, books, and CDs. I've made new fans of lesser known bands like Seven Nations and Man O' War. I know a lot of fan vidders can say the same.

CRANKY GREG RETURNS!!

Okay, for starters, the cover for Bad Guys #2 is not fan made - nor is it the FINAL REAL COVER. Not even close. Previews requires materials so far in advance of when they are otherwise actually needed for printing, that we often have to make do with unfinished images. This one's WAY unfinished. A mock-up done just for previews. It disturbs me that it's out there, but it's a business reality that if we don't have art for previews, then our sales go down.

And Shambahla is the spelling I consciously chose. It's not an error.

The monks did not arrive at the cave before the travelers.

The cloaks and stuff were taken off the hooks and shelves in the laundry room.

Greg G> I definitely see that the BAD GUYS logo on #2 is an improvement from #1, but I thought Yama was skinner in the face. I guess he's bulked up a bit since we last saw him!?

Concerning the covers, I didn't realize that so much emphasis is put on the cover as a means to advertise. It makes sense now understanding that piece of logic that should almost be common sense.

Also, Greg, you're the owner of the GargWiki, right? Will you be creating a section for Bad Guys on the "Comic Book Guide" page? I noticed there is a link to issue #1 in the "Articles in category "Comic Book"" section, with the Strangers title, but no link for #2.

Heh...I guess I, too, was kinda hoping that cover was fan-made. We can make all the justifications for why it looks the way it looks that we want...but it still looks sloppy to me. I'm just going to have to assume it's not the finalized version (really it probably isn't since #2 isn't coming out for a while).

And also, I see nothing wrong with the original logo. I suppose nitpickers could say that "BAD GUYS" sorta looks like "BAO GUY5", but it looked more like "BAD GUYS" to me, and I really liked it better than the one for #2.

I guess I ought not complain though. The story inside is what matters.

It wouldn't be such crap that the companies shut down people like Siren, if they paid one lick of attention to the people who upload entire seasons of episodes on YouTube. But obviously YouTube doesn't give a fart about real copywrite infringement because people watch shows on there all the time. Okay, time for my #6 review-I know, everyone cares so much what I have to say =P
****************************SPOILERS*****************************

I"m not going to go into the errors-it's already been talked about and it's being fixed. I did notice the page 12 error right away.

Art is nice-Gordon Purcell did a good job and I wouldn't mind seeing him working on the book again. He's especially good with the human characters. The only complaint I have is that the pencil lines are a little too unfinished and choppy in some panels. It distracted me a few times and interrupted my train of thought from the story.
And hats off to Dustin Evans for his coloring work-great color palette and he did a good job with the lighting and shadows.

Story:

Good story, it fits in nicely with previous episodes and comic issues. A lot of people have said that the story feels too rushed. I don't think it feels rushed so much as we're only seeing just a small snippet of what happened.

I guess the first two pages are there to assure the audience all is well with Goliath and Maggie. But it feels a little awkward to me. I don't understand why Angela is in such a good mood-sure nobody died, but they were attacked and essentially driven from their home-as Brooklyn says, that's not really cause for celebration. (Also, how did they find out about Maggie?)

Shari and Thailog- What the heck is going on there? :P. Lol, I love the toga! Acting out the part of a Roman Emperor-Hilarious.

The travellers-
heh, and I thought the pool in Arizona was weird!

I like Elisa's line about Hawaii and her aggravated stance on the next page. It's pretty clear that by now Elisa is pretty fed up with the World Tour-and it seems like this isn't one of her favorite adventures. That girl deserves a tropical vacation.

This place must be COLD if Goliath, Angela, and even Bronx feel the need to dress warmly. It's cool seeing Goliath wearing something other than his loincloth, and I love Bronx's doggie vest :)

Yetis, lol. I thought we were going to get to see real ones ;)
Master Dawa is an interesting character who has some good lines-I hope we see more of him...But how did he and Sangpo get to that cave before Goliath and company lol?

I like Goliath's concern for Elisa in the cold-reminiscent of "Eye of the Storm"

YES! Jalapena rears its head yet again ;) Who's saying it though? I'm guessing it was Elisa. (I don't think Angela has said it in the series yet)

I like Coldstone's reaction to Angela's telling him about Gabriel. I can't help wondering if there is some interest in the biological part, considering what he/she/they have become.

I'm disappointed in Coldstone/Othello here though. I thought his actions were too violent and unnecessary-particularly with grabbing Elisa by the neck. I understand his reasons, but I don't understand why he couldn't just have a long talk with them about his plight and why he can't go with them. (It's not as if they can force him anyway).

I guess Coldstone and the monks shipped the travellers off to Shambahla. I had no idea this was a mythical place until people in the comment room brought it up. I love learning about new mythical places though, and I've since looked it up.

I also wonder with thailog what will come of this adventure. And is anyone else curious to know if Shari took a peek under his toga after he turned to stone? ;)

I don't think we've heard from the Scarab Corp. since "Awakenings." Nice little touch.

Xanatos working with Coldsteel. I'm not surprised. After all, if he built those robots just for Goliath, Othello, and Desdemona's benefit, he wouldn't even have built a robot for Iago. I'm guessing this has something to do with Xanatos' Illumniati assignment.

Overall, a good story which leaves a lot more questions in my mind. I like how the past and present stories intermingle nicely, and it all fits together rather well. Really looking forward to number 7!

The entire comic industry does that, because covers are and always have been a form of advertisement all across the board. Same with movie posters and book covers.

I enjoyed reading it even though page 12 needs correcting. I might not bother getting the reprint but i'll be getting the Trade Paperback.

I laughed at Thailog sitting in his chair while Shari was feeding him grapes.
I also laughed at the travelers in there skiff arrived on a huge bowl of hot water. (so they could end up arriving in a kids paddling pool or a bathtub) Elisa looks fed up that she couldn't skip this adventure and see if Avalon send them to Hawaii, luckily for her she's able to have warm clothing but I thought she might have kept the warm clothing from Norway.
The word JALAPENA is said but not sure who says it, but I think it's Elisa.
I had a feeling Angela was going to say that Gabriel is Coldstone's (Othello) Biological son
Good fight Scene with Coldstone, who made them believe Iago took control.
I'm a little bit confused how did Elisa, Goliath, Angela and Bronx ended up back in there skiff in Shambahla (I have to find out where that is) did Avalon's magic do it.

I think there may have been a few cyborgs prior, and that's using the technical definition of it. Namely small scale stuff, such as limb replacements, that are little beyond what we had then / have now. But mutates would have been a surprise. I agree, I don't think the police revealed all the details. Probably kept it down to the Pack had been arrested for escape and outstanding warrants, and were being sent to a max security prison. Either way, public opinion of them was probably already decreasing, kids Halloween costumes aside.

One has to admit that Xanatos was very good at covering his tracks, considering that the Pack's capture would have raised a lot of questions with the authorities.

I never realised that it wasn't just one PANNEL that was doubled up in Issue #6, it was a WHOLE PAGE! And I didn't even notice it!

One pannel I can handle, but NOT a whole page!

This is unexceptable!

That is all I will say.

They'd have to have been at least attempted before. Such technologies involving living beings never work out right the first time, and the "failures" are usually not publicized. Anyone remember The Pretender (tv show)? I recall seeing part of an episode where there was about a barnful of "failed" Jareds that The Center was keeping under top secret lock and key, lest the public find out about the program.

It's also possible that such things may have been "old hat". If Sevarius was already good at this kind of technology, it's feasible that other scientists may have been *nearly* as good at these things as he was. Perhaps in the Gargoyles universe, Jackal and Hyena weren't the first cyborgs and Wolf and the Labyrinth Clan weren't the first mutates. The very fact that all of the above individuals are actually alive and viable suggests that many more likely came before...some of whom surely didn't survive their "upgrades".

It's possible that the NYPD decided not to publicize the changes that Jackal, Hyena, and Wolf had undergone.

Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

The end of the episode "Upgrade" resulted in the Pack being captured by the police.

I wonder what the public reaction was, considering that their arrest would have revealed the existence of mutates and cyborgs?

Haven't managed this in a long time, what with teaching classes at 7:30 A.M. every day. But I've got the day partly off tomorrow, so I'm up a little late and taking the lead!
