I don't disagree that it's a bit early to say that Amp is definitely Lex's One True. BUT, at the same time, there IS evidence of a spark between them--it's not that he and Coco aren't mates, but the WAY they declared that.

Definately. While I definately think Lex has had some small spark of a crush, whether he knows it or not, on Amp I don't think that's a definate on anything yet. Whether anything will come of this is yet to be see, though I do admit the speculation is fun.

Incisivis--I don't necessarily think that Amp is Lex's One True Love/future mate. But I do think that there is a spark there (and that they will explore that spark), and that if nothing else he'll be a vehicle through which Lex comes to/explores his sexuality.

I loved this issue. We get a good look at the London clan, and some nice character moments all around.

I agree it would be nice if Amp turned out to be Lexington's future mate, but I'm not seeing the evidence, just a convenient possibility.

Coco is something I've been wanting since the series begain: a gargoyle who is not attractive by human standards but powerful and self-possessed. Despite fanworks to the contrary, I don't think gargoyles would judge nonhumaoid females as we might.

What I also enjoy is how well everything in this issue ties together. The non-chronological ordering is much easier to take this time, and all the elements of it tie together. It's not cluttered at all.

Loved it.

A hart isn't a baby deer. According to the dictionary, it's a male red deer, usually over five years old. (Amp's fur is white rather than red, but that fits the tradition of white stags in Arthurian legend and medieval romance.)

I hope, incidentally, that nobody asks Greg what the London clan's thoughts are on eating bacon, pork, and venison.

A bit of good news. I just got an e-mail back from Alan Stewart, the webmaster of the "Camelot in Four Colours" site. I had informed him about the Arthurian elements in "Gargoyles" #7 and 8, and he thanked me, saying that he'd known about Arthur's role in the animated series, and had been watching the solicitations ever since the comic book series began, but had still missed discovering them. He's planning to look out for the comic now (and especially tracking down issues #7 and #8).

***GARGOYLES 8 SPOILERS***

Meg: you're absolutely right. the bit where shari asks thailog if he'd prefer she lost on purpose is definitely a parallel to the start of the episode "The Edge" where owen beats xanatos while sparring.

vinnie is boarding flight 994. it wasn't until my 4th or 5th reading of the comic that i finally clued into that. 994. 994 is the year the gargoyles were turned to stone. makes me wonder how many more references i'm completely oblivious to.

i'm really brilliant at that. missing the obvious. and finding obscure clues that really aren't there.

i also learned "hart" is actually a term for a baby deer. so "staghart" then. Adult Deer Baby Deer. I'm guessing he's based on a deer. Although he has wings. And is white. And wears spandex. Hopefully someone introduces Amp to wool. It breathes a lot better.

Meg> I suppose there is a bit of David and Fox in them, but even then, whenever I think about Thailog and Shari, it still leaves a feeling Of Deathstroke and Terra (The Marv Wolfman/George Perez version, not the animated series version from Cartoon Network). Of course, Shari in my opinion would last a lot longer than Terra (even longer if she is indeed immortal).

**Spoilers**

Meg - I think Greg deliberately gave contradictory stories from Shari's mouth this early on so that we don't take everything she says as the truth. We don't need to hang on to every word she tells in a story as gospel unless there's outside confirmation. In the case of the Coldstone story, I'd say that's gospel. Until Roy/Cu Cullain confirm a part of the story, I'd say it's myth.

If not for the lack of Gargoyles beasts, I'd almost say that the London Clan's choice to protect themselves and their home prevented many of them from being killed. Aside from the racist punks, they seemed to be lacking in having some threats.

London Clan numbers>
Matt! Yes, that's what my brain was trying to tell me the other day. I'd actually started trying to chart out what the split would be(and what the future numbers would look like) and came up with, assuming the 'ideal' conditions listed by Rebel, it would be along the lines of 46 or so for the younger gen., 50 in their 1st/2nd egg, and around 100 for the older gen. Though I also think that there would be a rookery every third or so(chart's at home and I'm not, so I can't remember) in which only one group has eggs leading to the occational rookery of around 12. Also even if you have those that came from the first group of eggs breeding with those of a second batch then you'd still be off in numbers due to the Gargoyles aging/breeding cycles. Aka- Rookery of 25 only has the potential to have 12 eggs at a time. 12 would have 6( but those would probably be combined with another group/gen.'s of 12 or 6). Assuming 12, that's still only 9 eggs. *re-reads post* I'm really doing a bad job of wording this but what I'm essentially getting to is that due to the amount of time a Gargoyle's breeding/age cycle thing needs to occur the idea of '# of children replaces # of parents' doesn't work very well here, if anything the third egg could act as a balance that could keep them from expanding too much despite the 2:3 parent:offspring ratio. Though I think that's also not factoring in the potential life span of the older/est gen. Does any of that make sense? Because I honestly suck at explaining numberical problems and such.

* SPOILERS FOR THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN *

I enjoyed this episode as well. Sand-Man made a threatening yet funny enemy; I particularly got a kick out of his trying to conceal his ignorance about who the Big Man is, and his "Doh!" moment when he realizes he forgot to grab the bank money he'd just stolen.

I had a definite "Gargoyles" flashback when Sand-Man decides that he doesn't want to go after Spidey for revenge because "revenge is for chumps".

Other touches I liked: the mention that the Big Man isn't interested in whether Sand-Man defeats Spidey or not, as long as he distracts him (distracts him from what, I wonder? Some specific scheme, or just his activities in general?), Norman's "we sweep up" line that Bishansky mentioned, and Peter shuddering again at the description of Mary Jane having a "wonderful personality".

Dr. Octopus seems decidedly Caspar Milquetoastish at present. I wonder if that'll change later on, once he goes beyond being one of Norman Osborn's scientists.

SPOILERISH

Lunette/Pog > I agree that in real life situations, it's best not to assume things. But when it comes to making predictions about a comic book, I don't think it's a big deal...after all, the worst case scenario is that we're wrong about it, and even if we're wrong, it doesn't really cause any harm. I think if we stopped making assumptions in this comment room, we'd have a lot less to talk about.

Personally, I think that it's rather obvious that those two are Lunette and Pog...or else why would the panels have been placed that way? All the other information in these two issues has been "presented strategically", so to speak, so I don't see why that doesn't apply here. The way I see it, it's one of two scenarios:

1. Those two are Lunette and Pog.

2. Those two are NOT Lunette and Pog, but yet the panels were placed in such a way as to deliberately mislead us into thinking they were. In which case, there may be a cool payoff or twist later on, so I'm perfectly okay with assuming those two are Lunette and Pog, because that's probably what Greg "wants" us to do.

London Clan numbers > There's something I've been wondering about lately, in regards to the London clan numbers. The number of eggs in any given rookery can remain perfectly steady, if and only if the following requirements are satisfied:

1. Nobody from the two breeding generations dies (or leaves the clan or gets banished) before breeding time.

2. There aren't any gay or lesbian gargoyles in any of the breeding generations.

3. There aren't any gargoyles who are "left out", so to speak. In other words, there must be an equal number of males and females in every generation, and they must all pair up; nobody can remain single. (Unless of course a gargoyle from one generation who was "left out" mates with a gargoyle from the next generation).

This is an awful lot of requirements to satisfy. I'm sure death happens every once in a while, and we already know that gargoyles can be homosexual. Also, the very fact that the current London rookery has 25 eggs tells us that AT LEAST one gargoyle will be left out, because at best there will be 12 of one sex and 13 of another.

My point? Over time, it seems like their numbers would slowly decline. Each female having 2 offspring (to "replace" both herself and her mate) only works in ideal circumstances.

Thus, I hypothesize that, on occasion, the London clan's leader may decide to allow one generation of London gargoyles to lay a third egg during their females' final heat cycle. This would bump the numbers up, whereupon they could slowly decline again.

(However, it is quite possible that, on occasion, one or more of the females from the oldest breeding generation may escape the enforced isolation and breed with her mate, bumping up the numbers ever so slightly...assuming she is able to breed with her mate. Or, every once in a while, a pair of gargoyles could lay twins. If either of these two scenarios happens, then that could mean the numbers would stay steady because of the occasional boost offered by escaping females or twins. It's ALSO possible that, on occasion, a drifter gargoyle may join the clan and mate with one of the London gargoyles. I'd say this is the LEAST likely scenario, given the rarity of gargoyles worldwide, and the unlikelihood of them finding Knight's Spur.)

Rebel

SPOILERS!!!!!

London Clan numbers> It seems to me quite likely that the London Clan has been using their birth control strategy for some time. If so, every generation should be around 25 eggs. Therefore, two generations of gargoyles is 50 adults, which make around 25 eggs. Patrick is wrong when he says that one third are likely younger than breeding age and one third are older. As a generation gets older their numbers should slowly decline due to deaths and then around 180-200 the death rate will sky-rocket. Lunette probably has around 25 rookery siblings, but from the dialogue I gather that Old Pog is the last gargoyle of his generation. So with all this in mind I get this chart, showing how many gargoyles (right) from each generation (left) are alive as of "Rock & Roll":

1998: 25 eggs waiting to hatch.
1978: 25 gargoyles including Lunette
1958: 26 gargoyles
Griff is aged between these generations.
1938: 26 gargoyles
1918: 24 gargoyles
1898: 24 gargoyles including Leo and Una
1878: 24 gargoyles
1858: 20 gargoyles
1838: 18 gargoyles
1818: 7 gargoyles
1798: 1 gargoyle including Old Pog
That is 196 gargoyles. And the 50 gargoyles from the 1918 and 1938 generations are responsible for the 25 eggs in the rookery currently. These numbers are probably a little off, but I think it gives us a general idea.

Lunette/Old Pog> Until we at least get word from Greg, if not confirmation in #9, I don't think we should assume those two gargoyles are the two named ones. Is it possible, sure, is it probable, perhaps, but if the last year of Gargoyles comics has taught us anything, it is that we should not assume anything.

Sandman has never been a favorite of mine, but I enjoyed him here. His transformation sequence was great, and I loved Norman's callous attitude... "we sweep up." Hmm, they were trying to add "silicon armor" to him at first, makes me wonder if they meant for him to be like the Rhino.

I was reading through #8 again and I was wondering if Vinnie is going to have any part in the London/Scotland story. I searched Expedia.com to simulate flights leaving from a random airport out of NY to a random airport in Japan. The only way I could force a "stop" in London was if I chose to fly with the company "British Airways". Otherwise, most flights (the least expensive ones) are nonstop. So I surmise that while it would be cool if Vinnie was part of the London tale, I don't think it's very realistic for him to be part of it.

* SPOILERS FOR #8 #

I think it would be neat if Lunette was Leo's biological daughter (though I'm thinking like a human here), because she shares the same name with one of the major characters in the Arthurian romance about Yvain. In that story, at one point, Yvain comes to the aid of a lion against a dragon, saving its life; the lion becomes his friend and ally thereafter, fighting beside him in battle. I have a theory that, in the Gargoyles Universe, that lion wasn't really a lion - in which case, the London clan might have been recalling a friend of an ally of one of their ancestors when they gave Lunette that name, and it would be all the more appropriate if her father was a lion-gargoyle.

Matt > The very fact that their names are given, and then they are shown in the next panel, seems to be an indicator that those two are Pog and Lunette. Also, the names themselves could easily go with the two gargoyles pictured in that panel. One of the gargoyles is a hipPOGriff, and the other is a little unicorn gargoyle, who could easily be Una and Leo's daughter. Her name sounds sorta like a combo of theirs: Leo + Una --> Lunette. (Of course, if this is the case, then that means the London gargs keep track of who laid which egg).

So no, there's no solid PROOF that those two are Pog and Lunette...but at this point I'd say it's a fairly reasonable assumption. If we're all wrong, then I guess we'll find out in #9.

I visited a site this evening that I've occasionally stopped at before, "Camelot in Four Colors", which discusses comics featuring King Arthur. While I was there, I decided to e-mail the site's webmaster about King Arthur's role in "Gargoyles" #7 and #8; there wasn't any mention of them on the site, so I saw it as an opportunity to spread the word. I mentioned both Arthur's modern role in the comic (protecting the Stone of Destiny alongside Macbeth and the gargoyles), and his role in the flashback about the Sword in the Stone - as well as a couple of tidbits (Arthur being taken to Avalon in 542 and consulting Malory for information on Merlin and himself, and Merlin's cowboy hat).

Pog and Lunette> All of you seem to be assuming that the two gargoyles we see in that one fram are these two gargoyles. Do you have any evidence of this? I'm not saying it isn't true, I just have not seen anything to definitively point to this.

Clan Numbers> If the London Clan has been keeping their numbers steady in the way they have for some time then every single generation should be 24-26 individuals at hatching and the numbers should decline from there.

Vinnie's Appearance was the biggest surprise of the book for me. I thought he was off to Bad Guys world and that Greg would be keeping the comics more seperate to allow each to stand on their own. Anyway, we'll see him soon.

Amp and Lex (and Constance)> I think Staghart and Coco will be joining the Manhattan Clan. It'd fit the Clan-Building theme. I'd love to see Brook's reactions to Coco's advances. LOL Anyway, there is a lot of subtle stuff between the two guys and I don't think that is us imagining things. Whether they end up together we don't know. We already know Lex isn't even aware of his sexuality yet, and who knows about Amp. But I do think Amp will be playing a huge part in Lex's life one way or another. I discovered my sexuality after developing a huge crush on my straight, male best friend. Good thing is that he is still my best friend (we went and got Gargoyles together!), but having those feelings was very difficult. The relationship between Lex and Amp could be the same. Or maybe they are made for each other, who knows... yet. Well, Greg, I guess.

Matt: "My one complaint about the cover would be the glow of Hudson's right eye. Almost looks like his eye is exploding!"

When I saw the streaking eye, it immediately reminded me of Cable from the X-Men. He's often drawn with a jagged streak or explosion coming out of his eye. I always thought it was his signature, but I suppose we don't have enough comic characters with glowing eyes to really draw a consensus.

Still, I think Brooklyn on Gargoyles #1 has had the best-looking eye glow yet. It's the blue-white special effects glow like from the show that isn't just circular, but shaped like his eye socket and reflects on the rest of his face. Oddly enough, Hudson's LEFT eye from #8 is quite good.

SPOILERS!!!

My Review For Gargoyles #8, "Rock And Roll"...

- After a not so great day, I finally reached the high point when my friend Ryan and I picked up our copies of Gargoyles #8. The first thing I noticed when I picked it up was that we were back to the firmer cover material, which pleased me, though it was fine either way. The second thing I noticed was how gorgeous the cover art is. Kudos to Greg Guler and Jorge Molina. This thing is a beaut. I wish I could get a full size poster of this cover, it is spectacular. It truly is the way comic book covers should be done. The layout is great and the coloring is amazing (particularly in places like Hudson's hair and beard). For a character all too often left behind in the Gargoyles stories, Hudson is really doing well on the comic covers! My one complaint about the cover would be the glow of Hudson's right eye. Almost looks like his eye is exploding!

- On to the story itself, we continue the non-linear format, which continues to be a bit daunting and a lot of fun. As Phil so observantly noted in Etched In Stone, there is a purpose to the specific layout and that purpose leads to hints, nudges and winks that one would otherwise not notice. In #8, the hint that is most interesting is Macbeth mentioning how there are few immortals and we cut to Shari... but also CuChullain, who has a different sort of immortality in his reincarnation.

- I'm pleased that we get a lot of information on the London Clan in this issue, and also of Constance and Staghart. They are really fascinating, so gargoyle and yet so different than what we are used to and expecting. They all have names and take to them so easily. Old Pog's gotta his name, sure, but even young Lunette's got her name. And of course, there's the biggie, while the gargoyle species is teetering on the brink of extinction and at least a few clans around the world have been decimated or otherwise face a real problem of population growth, the London Clan is consciously working to keep itself small and contained! It is also interesting that there are no beasts. Sir Griff leads me to think there is a sad story to that fact.

- There was a lot of humor in this issue, which was great. I loved Thailog confronting Shari about conflicts in her (maybe not so true) stories, Constance's "Nobody calls you Amp, Luv" line and her dismemberment of the Steel Clan robot (which, while funny, was also extremely cool. I also got a big kick out of Constance and Staghart's reaction to Lex's question about their being mates. I must say, I'm really fond of these two gargoyles and I hope (and suspect) we will see more of them beyond Issue #9. Staghart and Lexington (AKA Amp and Lex) seem to be forming a bond at any rate. Their mutual life-saving is nice and there are some subtle moments that I really like. I don't want to say much more in this review though, least I be wrong in my suspicions. Lets just say I look forward to watching their... relationship develop.

- The battle scenes in this one are a lot of fun. The five gargoyles vs. the four robots is neat. I'm curious why there is both a single Steel Clan and a single Iron Clan robot present and not two of one or the other. Coldsteel is getting rather creepy. The thought that he would have actually removed Hudson's arm is terrifying. I mean, they are enemies of course, but Hudson is Coldsteel's rookery father. The contrast between Coldsteel and Coyote is striking. Here you have Coyote warning his enemies to leave or else, upset when they don't and outright stating that he would only "terminate" if neccesary and then you have Coldsteel, who is somewhat gleeful at the thought of engaging in battle and causing painful bodily harm. It's almost funny that the enemy with a true soul is the more heartless of the two.

- We end the book in a similar fashion to how we ended #7, the arrival of some more new gargoyles to the Abbey. I have to say that I predicted that Coldstone and Coldfire would arrive, so it wasn't a surprise to me to see that they did. That said, their arrival is no less fun for me. I love to see everyone coming out of the woodwork. Amp wasn't kidding about the kitchen sink.

- A couple more small notes: I thought Vinnie's brief appearance was interesting and very unexpected. How does he fit into this? I absolutely LOVED Merlin's depiction. He looks so original and like a character I want to know more about. I suppose I was expecting a more Gandalf-like look, I should've had more faith in Greg and the artists. Griff, on the other hand, was a bit rough. I don't neccesarily hold this against Hedgecock though, I have seen very few drawings of Griff that looked great (in the series or in fan-art). He is just a tough character to draw, I think. Aside from Griff, Hedgecock is doing a great job. Always been a fan, of course, and he is getting better and better. And of course, Greg's writing continues to be superb. It all just flows so well. All in all, a great, great comic. It does come off as a bit of a "middle story", but the action and the non-linear format help make it very climactic. Definitely leaves me desperate for #9.

"Let this mark the beginning of a Golden Age! Between all our clans, both Human and Gargoyle!!!" - Macbeth, "City of Stone"

I once asked Greg if any of the Avalon clan would join Angela in the "real" world. He reponded by saying: "Eventually, others would visit. But I don't immediately see anyone else taking up permanent residence outside Avalon." That got me thinking on how the new Wyvern clan would come into being since that clan is supposed to be made up of Gargoyles that are "Scottish stock". I have a theory. Given the size of the London clan and the proximity to Scotland, I wonder if any of the London clan are "Scottish". I belive that there could be an minority of Scottish gargoyles living in London that hid with the London clan to evade destruction. Just a thought.

The bomb scene in #8 had two figures standing on a bridge in daylight. I wondered then if they might be Arthur and Macbeth (trying, perhaps, to deliver a warning to the people moving the Stone). We'll find out next issue, though.

And today is the first anniversary of the release of "Gargoyles" #3. Just think of how many new things we've learned about the Gargoyles Universe in this past year.

On that date, Greg rambled a withheld at 2:28am EST (7:28am GMT). But in the comic there was a 7:48 GMT (2:48am EST) obviously.

Is the consensus that Greg forgot a withheld at 2:48am EST or that the time of 7:28am is a small keyboard typing mistake?

Yes, Arthur being the primary objective is a really nice twist. My question is where does the bomb squad fit in and why? Another diversion tactic by Xanatos? Does he put the bomb in Fox's shoe box? And then they open the box to find only shoes and not a bomb?

BATTLE BEAST - Probably walking a fine line. (The questions that do that always unsettle me; I'm never certain whether they break the rules or not, and so whether I should delete them or not.)

* SPOILERS *

I've got to thank the person who suggested that Arthur was kidnapped (presumably by the Illuminati) while Macbeth was watching the big fight between the gargoyles and Xanatos's forces through his binoculars. When I first read the comic, I thought that Arthur had simply decided to rush up onto the roof to help them, without even telling Macbeth - he did display impulsive behavior at times in the legends, so that would fit him - but now it really could be that somebody grabbed him.

And it would be just like a Xanatos scheme to trick everyone (including the audience) into thinking that he's after the Stone when he's really after Arthur.

Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

If 190 gargoyles are evenly distributed in age, about one-third will be too young and one-third will be too old to be laying eggs. That would leave a few more than 60 of breeding age, so the best they could manage is 30 eggs if they're evenly split male and female and all of them successfully pair up. But if not every mating is successful, and not everyone is interested in pairing with the opposite sex, 25 eggs is still a respectable number.

What would bisexual Gargoyles do? Well the same as human bisexuals I'd assume. Just because someone's bisexual doesn't mean they can't settle down with one person. Bisexual =/= polygamist (not that I have anything wrong with either nor am I saying they can't occur together). ;p

That all out of the way I've been thinking over the egg thing. Something about it seems off(number-wise), I'm just not entirely sure what. Maybe it's my brain screwing with me. Blah.

Antiyonder- Heh, I read it on the ride home at redlights(a bad habit I got from whenever something Gail Simone's written comes out). *thinks* I've never read a comic in the store. I mean I'll skim(glance over the pages quickly) to see if it catches my eye though I do think it's kind of like stealing to read the whole thing(or even enough to be able to discuss it with someone) in the store. Then again I also read scans_daily, granted I've also been prompted to buy a lot of comics due to be introduced to them through s_d. *shrug*

Battle Beast> I read the comic in the parking lost of my comic store!

Don't know why, but that prompted a question I thought I'd ask. Anyone here ever guilty of Byrne stealing. Basically it means having a tendancy to read a comic in the store without buying it or before deciding to purchase it. The term comes from John Byrne who believes reading it in the store in that manner is stealing.

Me, I do it every now and then, but only to help determine whether I'll purchase or not.

"AMP is NOT Lex mate."

Did you actually mean Lex, or was that a slip and you meant Coco? (Just because the rest of what you said made me think the latter)

I actually really like this interpretation of Merlin. More of a magnificent bastard sort of fellow rather than the kindly old sage. I guess he gets that from his dad.

AMP is NOT Lex mate. I'm sure of it. Besides, like Angela and Gabriel, they were just on patrole together. (Gab and Ophy were together).

190 Gargoyles? Wow. But only 25 eggs? Hmmm...

anyways, I will write more tomorrow...

Battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

Small add on: if the situation between the three souls from Coldstone are any indication, it wouldn't have been unbelievable to think gargoyles cheat on their mates now and then, even if there wasn't any real cheating going on in that instance. But again, I think bi gargs would probably just look to both sexes as possibilities before settling down.
Tabby

oops, sorry. **Spoilers** in my below post.
UncleDeadly

Ah, the old bit about the invisible bisexuals. I'd just assume that any bi garg would consider members of both sexes before settling on their mate for life.
Tabby

Rebel~ The reason I didn't say Leo myself (though that would make sense) was a memory of reading on AskGreg that the second in command remains at their Residence (now Knight's Spur) while Una is at the shop. Which I assumed ruled Leo out as he was at the shop in M.I.A.

Also, good point that only 3/196 were guarding the stone. My first solution is - in 1945, Grif seemed the only Gargoyle of the clan who wanted to protect more than just the shop and their home. The events of M.I.A. seemed to push them more into protectors of all of London, but maybe Staghart and Constance are the only other two who've made that change.

Adam~ Well, if there are 20-40 mayan eggs, then that would mean 40-80 breeding adults. Cause I like this kind of stuff, lets try to figure out a ballpark for the clan. Since at any time there should be three breeding generations, lets say that there are 13-26 gargoyles in each generation of the clan (20/3 and 40/3) to evenly split the parents among generations. We know it takes two generations for a gargoyle to be ready to breed, so we can add 26-46 for the two generations that were developing. Again, this is assuming all generations are roughly equal and we get a low end of 65, high of 130. Of course, by similar math, the London clan would have 25 per generation, so a populace of about 125, less than what we are told they have.

Antiyonder - I too have wondered if bisexuals (people attracted to both genders) might exist among Gargoyles. I ran into a logical wall when I remembered Goliath (or maybe it was just Greg) saying Gargoyles mate for life. So if a Gargoyle was bisexual, would they still mate for life?

It's late, I'm rambling, I'll end here

While I don't know what to make of Amp and Coco's relationship myself, isn't it possible for Amp to be attrached to both genders? I mean because I have heard some people will go for either a man or woman.
Antiyonder - [antiyonder at yahoo dot com]

Hm... Interesting! I don't mind reading spoilers. They tell me what I am missing to remind me yet again I missed the darn release date! Argh! I'll go grab it now off the site...

As for the discussion on garg beasts, working a bit with Lynati and talking some to Greg, I believe that the type of critter gargs, garg beasts, and any relatives unknown at present -- aka gargates (just like we are primates) -- really is divided into subcategories including those of gargoyle and garg beast. That said, no I don't believe a garg beast is a lesser form of some defunked gargoyle humanoid egg gone wrong. Just in case anyone was thinking that...

Actually, in my fanfics, garg beasts are quite rare in the 20th century. The clan I'm from is actually one of a very few that has a breeding pair and their pup does go to other clans who have been in need of one for some time, and who also hopefully have a mate planned out for the pup... or whatever ya wanna call the hatchling of a garg beast. Given the gargs and garg beasts seem so closely related and that Boudicca is likely some progeny of Bronx (um, I think so anyway) they likely have a similar reproductive cycle to gargoyles. Makes awesome sense in that, like humans learned to domesticate animals for the great benefits they provided -- companionship, keener senses for lookouts and such, food, milk, skin, bones, fellow hunters, etc. -- garg beasts seem intelligent enough to have been able to maybe wiggle their eggs into a gargoyles' rookery and therefore set up some kind of cuckoo alliance. Wow, yes, that's a weird theory. Oh well. I'm a bit off my game tonight but decided to throw the theories out. For whatever mutual reason, gargs and garg beasts do not live separate and tho it may seem odd that a substantially sized clan doesn't have a single one as we've seen, it may be simply the fact that England has forever been overrun with humans over the last few millenia and may have completely robbed the clan of any individual garg beasts, let alone a breeding pair.

Um, yah. There's that 3.1 cents:)

Jade Griffin
"Foooooooood!!!"

Greg, excellent point. I never thought of that. But it makes me wounder how many Gargoyles were in the Mayan clan before it was destroyed considering that there are supposed to be between 20 and 40 eggs. Or how big the New Olympic clan is considering that it has been more isolated than the London clan and for far longer.
Adam - [carl006_1999 at yahoo dot com]

Thanks for the information, Eldar, I hadn't known about that. And I'm all the more impressed with all the research that Greg's been doing on this story.

I wonder if Greg knows, incidentally, about our suspicions about Shari. Of course, he's probably restricting himself to our comments in the "Ask Greg" queue rather than our comments here, in order to be safe.

Beasts: while it is possible the london clan my have had Beasts at some point in time.. ir also shows just how rare they are.. I suppose when the next rookery hatchings happens in 1998.. there may a be a Beast joining the London Gargs from another clan or it might be possible one of the eggs contain Garg Beasts..

Lex and Amp: yeah, I think Lex at least has a crush on Amp. and unlike Bronx and Boudicca they have the advantage of E-mailing each other. :)

now that I think about it. I wonder if watching Bambi in Re-awakening was Lex's idea. don't if that could be a reason why Lex likes Amp :p

Una's Second > My first instinct is to assume that it's Leo, since he's Una's mate...but, there's certainly the possibility that it's someone else in the clan. After all, if Una and Leo are the ones who run the store most often, it would make sense if someone ELSE was the second-in-command...because then he/she could be back at Knight's Spur, leading the clan in Una's absence. Also, she may have chosen to appoint a gargoyle from a younger generation, like Hudson did with Goliath (granted, it was never specifically mentioned that Goliath's youth was part of the reason Hudson chose him, it does seem reasonable to pick someone younger to carry on).

Also, I do think it's odd that, out of 196 gargoyles, the London Clan feels they can only spare THREE to help guard the stone. I guess they're trying to lay low and not attract much attention. A huge group of gargoyles could be pretty obvious. I tend to think that one of the three London gargoyles that we've met so far might be Una's Second...simply because it's such an important mission and she'd probably want someone there whom she KNEW could handle the situation.

*Rambles on Gargoyles 8: (Spoilers!)*

Since I discovered Ask Greg years ago, I was a casual obsessor, devouring every piece of new information since the last time I had visited months before. Once the DVDs and Comics came out, Id enjoy binging on episodes or issues. But then a day or two later, I'd calm down and life would return to normal. The passion was still there, but it wasn't at the front of my mind. As soon as I read the last page of Gargoyles 7, that all changed. When the two new gargoyles appeared in all their beautifully illustrated glory, I stood up and cheered. After that, for the last three months, the fire inside has not cooled at all. I began re-watching all the episodes from the second half of S2 on youtube during slow times at work. I made (horribly fuzzy) screencaps of Bushido, Avalon2/Avalon3/Ill Met to try and see just how many different clan members were designed. And I poured over the Ask Greg site as completely as I could. As the delays for the new issue grew, I was worried I would be disappointed with the resulting comic.

I was not. Though I had to wait much longer than I would have liked to read the issue last night, it was gone in an instant when I finally read it. While I first wanted to see who these two new Gargoyles were, I found the storyteller in me ecstatic to read "...few things are accurate" and the look on Shari's face as Thailog questions her. I found my concerns that the issues solicitation's mention of CuChullain would lead to too many characters thrown into the pot were unfounded. His role was minor but fit in beautifully to Shari's tapestry of tales. And then we get the appearance of "the kitchen sink", Coldstone and Coldfire. And I felt this was perfect. Yes between Macbeth, Hudson/Lex, Arthur, London Gargoyles, Iron, Coyote, ColdTrio the battle is quite packed with characters, which I think is great! All of these people's stories ARE linked and flow together like in Shari's stories.

One of the things I loved most about this issue, as I read it a second time on my lunch break today, and am thumbing through it now: the details that I missed. Page 10: the big battle panel makes aerial combat look aerial. Everyone is facing in different directions. Staghart is facing downwards even. The panel had some real depth to it. Making young Arthur look so much like arthur, but so much younger, but still with the Pendragon crest (I never noticed til now how similar Arthur's crest looks like the Pheonix Gate). Then there are facial expressions. Hedgecock does some amazing expressions. I've already mentioned some of Shari's. But on page twelve, her raised eyebrow as she moves her knight (as if she is daring Thailog to question this story. Or Fergus look as Merlin magics the stone. Hudson's downcast look in the library - so weary. Coldsteel looks menacing as he lands on page 17, with his downcast stare (a posture that oozes "I'm better than you" and his red(!) eyes. And of course, Lex and Staghart. Staghart looks stunned when Lex slams into him, and then smiles and stares at Lex in the big battle panel. The two always seem to be smiling when standing next to each other (which they do in every standing panel after the introductions.

And of course - the best part for me was the new Gargoyles. The reason I got excited after 7, grew during this issue. Names for Coco and Amp (instead of just being generic background designs like so many Ishimuran or Avalonian gargs), just as I had hoped! Constance is great and a tough warrior. And Stag has an air of majesty to him that makes me instantly like him. PLUS two new designs for who I assume must be Pog and Lunette in stone sleep (nice way of naming without naming). And the size of the clan! WOW! Though I have to wonder - where is their clan leader during all of this (at the store I presume) and who is Una's second? And if they aren't Grif/Staghart/or Constance - than why aren't any leaders involved in the skirmish?

/End Spoilers

Overall a fantastic issue that I can't stop looking at. It makes my heart a little heavy to think that we have to wait ,on the hopeful side, two months for the conclusion of the arc.

Here's hoping I can find something to keep me occupied during the wake. Maybe some simple editing on GargWiki (user:UncleDeadly) if someone would grant me editing access.

Rebel- I'd think it's a more recent development. Lest Goliath being there was enough to take away any surprise of them seeing Bronx in M.I.A... Which, thinking it over, could very well be the case. *ponders*
Taking that into consideration it's even possible that whatever happened to the beasts happened before Griff came to the 'present day'. I mean there wasn't exactly much time for Goliath to be asking questions about the clan in his trip to the past. Eitherway I agree that it's something that happened recently, at least to him.

Whatever happenned to simplicity?

I found something interesting online who might relate to gargoyle biology: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080327/ap_on_he_me/squid_beak;_ylt=AlLdl2C8jQ.3j44.zFj_txOs0NUE - The beak, made of hard chitin and other materials, changes density gradually from the hard tip to a softer, more flexible base where it attaches to the muscle around the squid's mouth, the researchers found. If a squid's beak can change density, that lays the groundwork for a gargoyle to change density. Or am I jumping the gun with this article?
dph_of_rules
Whatever happenned to simplicity?

**GARGOYLES #8 SPOILERS**

I was among those whose first thought was something like "Ah, so it's Amp & Lex then?" But I also think we're jumping the gun A LOT. We're all calling him Amp, 'cause it's his name. That's what lex did. And the whole "we're not Mates" bit of dialogue would be normal if, say, a brother and sister (or friends as close as siblings) were asked if they were married by someone who didn't know them. I think because we have a bit of canon-in-training information on Lex we're reading a bit more into things than we should.

So is Shari immortal? Seemed Greg was trying to make sure we got that without saying it in this issue.

Dave Hedgecock's art gets better with each issue. I also think we're now past the "culture shock"; we were so use to Disney's style for so long that it took a little while to get comfortable with Dave's style. I'm certainly comfortable now. And Robby's coloring is exceptional again. We're going to get spoiled fast (if we aren't already).

Really liked the Philip K. Dick "electric sheep" reference. That was a nice touch. It's nice to think that Lex has been reading GOOD sci-fi. I wonder who his favorite author would be. Asimov? PKD? Clarke? Heinlein?

Loved the "all thing are true" line as well. How many times has Greg used that in responding to Ask Greg questions? (40ish, actually, if you search... seemed like more to me for some reason.)

Coco's move to "dis-arm" (WAKA WAKA WAKA) the steel clan robot was sweet.

I'm really curious to see just what could possibly be the payoff for this whole "Fox's Shoes" thing.

I'm really really enjoying this story arc. And the heavy-stock cover was a nice bonus for this issue (even if it was a mistake, it's a nice mistake for us fans).

I LIKES IT.

SPOILERISH

I've been thinking about the look on Griff's face when he told Lex that the London clan didn't have any beasts. If things had been that way for a long time, then it seems like most of the gargoyles in the London clan wouldn't be bothered by it. After all, they wouldn't know what they were missing. The look on Griff's face suggests that he is genuinely saddened by the fact that they don't have any beasts, and seems to suggest to me that the loss of the London beasts could have actually been a recent tragedy (or perhaps, "recent" from Griff's POV...since the aforementioned possible tragedy might have happened between the time when Goliath snatched him with the Phoenix gate and the present-day in the Gargoyles universe). My point is, if there hadn't been any beasts in the London clan for a very long time, then nobody would be sad about it, because it would seem normal to them.

Thoughts?

Even if there aren't anymore left, I do hope we at least get to see what some of them looked like...perhaps in the form of flashbacks...given the varied appearances of the gargoyles in the London clan, I was really looking forward to seeing what their beasts looked like.

Rebel

**SPOILERS**

Heh, I also got the whole 'fag hag' vibe out of Coco and Amp's friendship. In fact if anything from what I've seen, and assuming Amp to be gay, together they remind me of my little sister and our mutual friend Jade. Sis's straight. Jade's gay. While both can see the good points of one another they aren't exactly attracted to each other, at least that I've heard of, just very good friends that they're around eachother enough to seem like they're dating. Hell, now that I think of it, I have a similar straight male friend. People've asked if we're dating which always results in a big laugh. So such things can exisit without an attraction on either side.

In terms of Amp himself... I think he's gay. Even if not thinking about a mate for Lex, I'm pretty sure I'd think that. Also I really like your theory Rebel, of Amp's self-applied nickname hinting at an interest in technology. If so that would definately add a few points to the possibility that, if anything, him and Lex would go well together(as friends or more).

Demonskrye- Agreed. Whether they end up together or not I would really like there to be more to it than a 'well, why not.' sort of mentality to it. *ponders* Maybe if it turns out Amp is indeed into technology they can swap information and talk more over e-mails and such when Lex returns to NY rather than jumping into things. A long-distance/internet relationship between two gargs, the thought amuses me.

Asia - [h3llskitten at hotmail dot com]

SPOILERISH

I've been wondering where Amp got his nickname from. The word "Amp" is often associated with technological or scientific things...and it's shorthand for "amplifier". At this point I'm thinking that maybe Amp likes to dabble with technology or sound systems, so he wants everyone to call him "Amp" because he thinks it sounds cool. It's also very possible that he's not that fond of "Staghart"...it's a cool name, but based on what we've seen of Amp's personality so far, it seems a little too stiff and noble for him...he'd probably prefer a name that's a little more playful, so I guess that's why he prefers "Amp".

Demonskrye - I'd be interested in seeing a love vs fear of loneliness conversation too. Though I still doubt if that level of attention will be given to Lex's love life.

That actually kind of reminds me of the mutates. Three guy mutates, one girl. Maybe it'd be easier for them to consider relationships with non-mutated humans than for a gargoyles to consider a relationship with a human, but I could imagine Talon and Maggie having a similar 'love vs limited options' conversation.

SPOILERS

HA! That's hilarious! I felt so dirty when the term 'fag hag' briefly flashed through my mind when reading the comic and it pleases me to no end that two other fans are discussing about it. I think fag hag usually refers to a straight woman that's attracted to a gay man and they have a non-sexual, but pseudo-romantic relationship that either ends or becomes a standard friendship when they grow up and become more comfortable with their own sexuality. See http://podcasts.thestranger.com/savagelove/archives.php#a033915 (not-safe-for-work-or-kids language). Dan Savage gives a definition at 2:30. I don't think Coco can be a genuine fag hag if they both outright deny any sexual attraction or relationship.

Lex and Amp> Like I said, I'm pretty sure Lex is interested in Amp. Offering to call him by his preferred nickname which apparently no one else uses seems like a pretty big sign to me, especially considering that Lex just met the guy. And while I don't want to read too much into the art, the first panel of November 15th, midnight (where the fight starts) definitely looks like Lex only has eyes for Amp. But I agree, we don't know if Amp returns the feeling or if this is going to work out long term. It's not that I want Lex to get his heart broken, but I think it would be nice to show that especially in this modern world, a gargoyle's first love isn't always the last and only, using someone other than Brooklyn as an example. If Lex and Amp do end up together, I still very much want to see that conversation I keep talking about where one or the other of them wonders whether they're together out of love or out of fear that they'll never find another unmated gay gargoyle.

As for the two eggs per couple rule compensating for gay gargoyles, I would guess the London clan would much rather be a little under their population limit than deal with the total chaos that would result from trying to decide who gets to mate that one extra time.

Timeline> the Gargoyles timeline over at GargWiki has all the events of issues #7 and #8 listed chronologically, as well as the times for the "withheld" events from TDiGUH. Of course it's just interesting to see everything in chronological order, but given what we have filled in, I think we could probably make some educated guesses about some of those "withhelds". Such as....

11/4, 5:29pm EST - Could be unrelated, but given the proximity to Shari's first Stone of Destiny story, I'm guessing either Thailog requests stories on this topic or Shari offers to tell them.

11/7 9:45am EST - I'd be willing to bet money Fox finishes purchasing the shoes.

11/12 5:01pm EST - Xanatos's button triggers something. Possibly that supposed bomb, but would it really not come into play for three whole days?

11/14 7:11pm EST to 7:18pm EST - Presumably more of the fight.

Anyone else want to hazard a guess or two?

SPOILERS****

There's likely a handful in the clan, certainly. I'm picturing two or three in each generation. There's all sorts of possible situations there, like what if there are three gay gargs in Amp's generation, but the other two were lesbians? It's easy to see Coco as 'butch' but I rather enjoy the idea of a straight, butch fag-hag.

If Amp winds up going to New York, I hope Coco pays frequent visits, she's brilliant. Or maybe they'd stay in their respective homes and do something long distance, so many possibilities.

SPOILERISH

Given the enormous size of the London clan, there's likely several homosexual gargoyles in the clan. Also, this clan seems fairly "modern", so to speak...they probably have TVs and such in their mansion so it's not like they've been living in some isolated bubble while the world outside continues to progress. My point is, it's very possible that any gay gargoyles in the London clan might be OPENLY gay, and this might be perfectly acceptable to the rest of the clan.

So...if Amp IS gay, it's possible that the rest of the clan knows it, and doesn't care. If this is the case, then I guess that makes Coco a..."faghag", I think it's called?

***SPOILERS*** from a lurker.

It's possible Amp could just be a crush/passing interest, so on so forth. But I wonder how much space can really be dedicated to Lex's love life. I'm thrilled that Lex is getting as much of the spotlight as he is, and he's so well drawn this time around! Brooklyn's a tad more of a, hmm, don't want to say more important character, but something along those lines, so we get to see more of his romantic adventures. Also, what are the chances Lex will meet another gay male garg (that's how I'm interpreting Coco's laughter at the 'mates' question, I could be wrong) roughly his age?

That makes me wonder how homosexual gargs factor into the limited breeding going on. Do they allow the occasional couple to go ahead and have a third egg to compensate (assuming the gay gargs don't breed for the sake of the thing, maybe they do)? They'd have to anyway, in the event of deaths through accidents and whatnot. That'd be a heck of a lottery.

Rebel - I was thinking the same thing. The Amp-Lexington connection immediately jumped into my mind like everyone else, but I'm wondering how many of us would have came to that conclusion if Greg never revealed that Lexington has a future male partner. But even if the 'relationship' (if you can call it that at this point) doesn't pan at, you have to admit that Greg is playing with our minds. I mean, not only was Lexington the only one to call him Amp, and they saved each other, and the hilarious reaction of Coco and Amp to Lex's question, there's even subtler hints. In almost every scene with the London and Manhattan gargoyles, Lexington and Amp are framed side-by-side, even in the air.

Rebel

It's very possible that we're all jumping the gun as far as the whole Lex/Amp thing. For all we know, Amp could be Lex's Maggie or Angela...an early love interest that doesn't pan out since it's not reciprocated. Though I personally do think that it *could* be mutual and *might* be mutual...I could easily be interpreting it that way because I kinda WANT it to be mutual. Maybe we all want Lex's future mate to show up so badly that we're seeing things that aren't supposed to be there.

Happy day people. I have a merchandising update.
Over at Hot Topic, they have a sale on novelty tees. This week the featured item at the front of the store are tees featuring Disney Afternoon characters, Ducktales, Talespin, Darkwing Duck and *trumpet fanfare* Gargoyles. So if your Gathering '03 T-shirt is feeling snug and you want to represent, head over to your local Hot Topic and pick up a tee. Though how "Yo Gabba Gabba" gets a tee in HT reminds me that the universe is a perplexing and mysterious place.

State of the Comic> Todd, my local store is a fairly small operation that does a lot of its business through subscribers. I don't know for certain if there are any other people subscribed to the comic aside from me, but it's possible that everyone who wants the comic has it reserved. It's unfortunate that people aren't just picking it up off the shelf, but that's just the case at one store and it's certainly not cause for panic.

dph, I think what we should take from this is that another area we could focus on is getting more people to review the comic. Writing our own reviews is a good start; I notice that the TPB only has two reviews on Amazon. But I think we could really get some traction by e-mailing websites that review comics and asking them to check out "Gargoyles". Petitioning Disney won't get us anywhere, but comics review sites are generally much smaller operations that would pay more attention to our e-mails. What I'd suggest is that we seek out sites that might review the comic and post contact info for them here. Then all of us can e-mail the site asking them to do a review of "Gargoyles".

Back to issue #8 so SPOILER ALERT!

NO ONE WHO HASN"T READ ISSUE 8 BEYOND THIS POINT!

Vinnie> I kept forgetting to mention his brief scene. Is Vinnie going to factor into the story arc? Or are we just getting a glimpse into his story? I wonder when we'll learn about his likely encounter with the Ishimura clan.

Lex and Amp> I still think it's too early to say if this is going to be a serious relationship. But Lex has had enough pointed looks at Amp and suggestive dialogue (suggesting that he likes the guy, not suggestive of sex) to hint that he's at least got a crush on Amp. Most of the other educated guesses we've made have turned out to be right, so this may as well. But that doesn't necessarily mean that Amp will return these feelings or that they will end up together permanently. IF they do, I imagine Amp/Staghart would be joining the Manhattan clan since the London clan already has enough members to survive without him while the Manhattan clan can't afford to lose a gargoyle. But then again, we shouldn't always assume that gargoyles who pair up with one of the Manhattan clan will automatically join the Manhattan clan. I think it makes sense for Amp to do so (again, if), but it still wouldn't be easy for him to leave his friends and family.

Electric Sheep> I guess Lex has been reading Philip K. Dick.

Shari> Due to Thailog's presence, I think Shari's preference to telling stories shortly before dawn is definitely a hint to her true identity. Part of how Scheherazade was able to keep the misogynistic, murderous shah from executing her was by ending her night's storytelling with a cliffhanger. If the shah wanted to know what happened next, he had to keep her alive for another night. Since Thailog can't postpone sleep, Shari has an even easier time cutting off her tales. I think the immortals line refers to her; Cu isn't so much immortal in the same sense as Arthur and Macbeth. The chess game could also be a hint, as chess has its origins in the middle east. ("Checkmate" actually comes from "shah maht" (possible spelling errors) meaning "the king is dead.")

Phil> Perhaps the most clear "1+2=3" theory is that there is no number one in the Illuminati because that spot has been reserved for Arthur, whether he wants it or not. I had thought that Arthur disappeared because he realized what they were being diverted from, but the idea that he was drawn out and captured makes a lot of sense too. If the Stone is in fact just a diversion, it's possible that Xanatos doesn't even know the true purpose of his mission. The Illuminati may have just told him to get the Stone, figuring it would be a nice bonus if he actually succeeded.

Xanatos> I've found it entertaining to note that Xanatos now has the gargoyles in the exact position he wanted to put them in during "The Edge". But given that Xanatos values learning from his mistakes, I would think that he realized that his misstep was making it too easy for the gargoyles to see that he was behind the attempt to turn the public against gargoyles. So I can't believe he would be quite so arrogant as to assume the gargoyles will remain his guests no matter what he does just to ensure their safety. I want to believe he has something else up his sleeve, though I'm not quite sure what yet.

Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

The release of yesterday's issue has certainly livened things up at the Gargoyles Wiki; Bishansky's been making several updates, and so have I. (And many things have been shifted from canon-in-training to canon.)

* SEMI-SPOILERS *

King Pelles is probably dead by now. In Roger Lancelyn Green (one of Greg Weisman's leading sources) he dies at the end of the Grail Quest, after Galahad heals him of his wound, and Percival and Blanchefleur succeed him to the rule of Carbonek. So the same thing has probably happened in the Gargoyles Universe.

Pelles' team-up with Merlin is Greg's invention, but seems all the more appropriate, since Pelles masterminded the conception of Galahad in much the same way that Merlin masterminded the conception of Arthur. (Pelles' daughter Elaine fell in love with Sir Lancelot; Pelles knew that Elaine and Lancelot would be Galahad's parents, but he also knew that Lancelot was only interested in Guinevere. So he tricked Lancelot into thinking that Elaine was Guinevere, leading to Galahad's conception. (Apparently Duval/Percival's being both Fisher King and at the same time engaging in morally questionable behavior isn't such a new thing.)

* SPOILERS END *

Todd Jensen

So last night I re-read "Rock & Roll" before going to bed. (I also did a little online research about Pelles, but more on that later.) As I lay in bed, drifting off to sleep, I came up with a few theories. Now that it's morning and I'm awake, lets see if they still make sense.

*** SPOILERS *** SPOILERS *** SPOILERS ***

* Shari is immortal. Arthur and Macbeth's conversation leads right into a close-up of Shari's face. I know it's been mentioned before, but this is just confirmation to me. I won't even number this one.

1) Xanatos's London mission - What's he up to? Macbeth watches the aerial battle between the robots and the gargoyles from the ground and opines that it's just a diversion. That's obvious; attacking the gargoyles would never be Xanatos's primary objective.
a) I wonder if the red button Xanatos pushed on the 12th summoned Coldfire (and Coldstone) just to create an even bigger distraction. He mentioned Coldsteel's tracking device last issue; I'm sure Coldfire has one too. And Macbeth said the automatons were a diversion; Greg could be hinting about Coldfire and Coldstone, too.
b) So what's the real objective? The Stone of Destiny is the obvious option... in fact, too obvious. I think he's using the Stone as another diversion. Anyone not distracted by the robots will be even more focused on the Stone, leaving Xanatos free to pursue his real primary objective.

2) The Illuminati - Who's in charge? We've discussed before the idea that Percival/Duval/Fisher King may be holding the #1 spot open for Arthur, and that's still a possibility. But after seeing Pelles, Merlin, and Carbonek in the same panel, I think it's possible that Merlin is #1. Also, I didn't know much about Pelles before, and maybe Todd or someone else more knowledgeable than me can elaborate, but maybe Pelles/Pellem/Wounded King is #1.

1 + 2 = 3) Putting all these thoughts together, here's my overarching theory. No matter who's #1, Duval/Percival is still leading the Illuminati. Xanatos, on behalf of the Illuminati, is not really after the Stone of Destiny. The primary objective of the Illuminati, working through David Xanatos, is to draw out Arthur Pendragon. To what purpose? Capture or confrontation? I don't know yet, but that's what I'm thinking.

Any comments?

* SPOILERS FOLLOW *

I forgot to mention a couple of things about the flashback to Arthur pulling Excalibur from the Stone.

1. London is called "Londontown" in this scene. I wonder if that could be a reference to the Disney "Sword in the Stone" animated movie (it'd be appropriate to reference a fellow Disney property), where the opening song/narration describes the Sword in the Stone appearing in "Londontown".

2. London is depicted as a group of thatched huts - a probable appearance for a village in Dark Age Britain. But Britain had been part of the Roman Empire until recently in Arthur's time, and I don't think that all of the Roman buildings in London left over from then would have vanished by 500 (the Saxons couldn't have done that much damage). But it's not important enough to worry about.

GARGOYLES #8.

*SPOILERS ABOUND. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK*

Nice little touches with Shari (Sceherezade?) and Thailog, and playing chess, no less. Somehow oddly fitting. I noticed that Shari gives two different versions of the Stone Of Destiny's arrival in Ireland. Which version, in your opinion, do you consider accurate?

Nice reference to Cu Challain. Props. Will Cu make a return in future issues?

Also, nice throwback to 'The Edge' with Thailog's 'I'd fire you if you did' in response to Shari's offer to pretend losing the Chess game.

Nice 'Monsters' reference as well. Damn, but this issue is stocked with references and episode homages. Geez. :D

'Coco'. Heh. Brought back memories of the "Original Broadway" when I read that. Again, props to you, Greg.

Staghart seems like a very cool (his crack about the kitchen sink at the end? LOL.) character.

I suspected that Staghart (having not known his name at the end of #7, I'd thought of him as 'that deer-like Gargoyle') = Amp. Nice to have confirmation of it. Although, for a time, I also wasn't sure if Lex was naming Staghart in that infamous panel from #7, or if he'd found a stray pet or something. At least I can stop wondering now.

Speaking of Staghart/Amp, I picked up on a few hints of a thing between him and Lex. Though I may also be reading too much into it.

More narrative time-jumping. I'm having trouble keeping the events of this arc chronologically straight. But then, that just makes it more interesting. Glad it's not a constant thing, however.

Great to see Griff again. Fighting the Steel Clan robots. Nice. He's even more bad-assed in the comics then he was in the series.

Knight's Spur. Very nice name for their habitat. How British sounding. I like it. And I also dig the panel with the London Clan in stone sleep, too.

Xanatos is at it again. No surprise to anyone who'd read the end of issue #6, but still... what is his game? And what IS the obsession with Fox's shoes? How do Fox's shoes play into the Stone of Destiny? *scratches head* You are evil, Greg. Keeping me guessing like that. EVIL. :P

More legend telling from Shari/Sceherezade. Nothing I can say about it that I haven't already in my #7 review.

I knew Hudson would escape his dismemberment (Coldsteel = heartless bastard.) but that last panel with Coldstone and Coldfire, out of the blue but I really should've seen it coming, was a great plot twist.

That's all I really have to say about this issue. Fun to read, great story, and the new characters (Staghart) seem really cool. Great twists and nice characterization (Griff rocks!) all sum this up into one neat, nicely-written package.

Bring on #9.

From the slg blog - http://www.slgcomic.com/pages/slgblog.php : Gargoyles is presently our best-selling comic and yet it is also one of the least reviewed at comics sites.

This doesn't mean we need to take things for granted, but instead it means we need to pick up the pace to increase sales to get Disney's attention.

Will somebody (besides potentially me) post a comic book review in the gfw chat room?

Yay. After three months it's finally out. *happy dance*
So, a review of sorts...

**SPOILERS AHOY!**
My goddess, where to start? Literally, I'm not sure where to start with the jumping around that continues in this issue(granted I think I'm getting more used to it with this one than the last so I followed it well enough in the first read through). Well how about the tiny bit that only had one small mention... Vinnie! Heh. It was amusing to see his excitement about going to Japan, though I didn't really doubt it I'm glad to see his leaving NY doesn't count him as anywhere near out of the series. Hope to see more of what happens when he gets there and finds out what his, assumed, new job entails.

That aside... First there's Shari and Thailog continuing with Shari's 'The story is told, though who can say if it be true...' tangent. While Thailog's grin is creepy as hell I was smirking along with him over his high and mighty attitude of catching a plothole in Shari's story telling, then his somewhat 'eye-roll' response to her ignoring him. Shari = seriously climbing the scale for favorite characters here. At this point I'm agreeing with the idea that's been thrown out there of her being immortal. If anything it was a given that there's more to her than meets the eye, as has been revealed bit by bit starting with her entering the story as a more than a background character. So the assumption that there's more to see from her, including the possibility of immortality, is a pretty fair bet.

Since it seems that Arthur and Macbeth's talking is linked to Shari's stories, at least in how they compliment one another, I suppose I'll look over that next(saving the clan for last). First of all Ioved how Macbeth and Arthur just seemed to click over their similarities. If they were two female characters I'd already be writing slash on them(Yes. I'm a slashaholic and yes, I'm mentally pushing Amp & Lex together) Anywho their conversation over their immortality, well placed so as to give the allusion that Shari is most likely one as well, was nice. How Macbeth described his as a result of making a deal with 'a demon'. Cute. And Arthur's saying of 'All things are true, few things are accurate.' see: Link to Shari's stories. I think it's not so much that any of her stories aren't true but rather that there's at least some small part of each that's worth taking note of in the future. That said, there's still the big deal of the issue. Learning more about the London Clan and dealing with the reason they're in London in the first place.

Loved how the speculation on the female being named Coco and the male most likely being whom Lex was calling Amp was true. Though I would like to know where Staghart gets 'Amp' from. I mean Constance being Coco can make sense. The latter? Not so much. Pop/Garg culture reference perhaps? Heh. In terms of the clan itself I was surprised to learn it consisted of 196 members, 25 eggs, and no beasts. Addressing each individually, 196 members?! Wow, I mean I can't seem to recall the numbers Greg gave(or did he?) on the average clan size but eitherway that seems to be a lot(given the numbers we've seen in this day not coming near such so far). What's more that places their numbers high enough to avoid extinction, in average terms of species, without fear of dying out from an accident(lest it was mega big on the scale of Demona vs. humanity), in-breeding, ect. As for the 25 eggs, I can see their point. Not exceeding their means is very smart and most likely what's kept them around so long. Then again the whole idea that they need to isolate the female gargs in their third heat to avoid breeding, yikes. Why did that make me flinch? *thinks* Ahem... No garg-beasts. I'm not sure if I find it entirely outrageous though I would like to know why, hopefully that will be covered, along with learning more about the clan, before they leave London.

Also in connection to the London Clan parts, we have Xanatos seemingly making a move for the stone viva Coyote, Coldsteel, and a Steel & Iron Clan robot(s). Loved the parts of the fighting seen so far. Lex saving Amp then three minutes later being saved by him. *grin* Coco's little 'screw guns', flipping in the air, and tearing off the Steel Clan's arms was uber cool. The tentacles on the cover being Coldsteel going after Hudson, only to be stopped by Coldstone & Coldfire. Wicked.

So... yeah.
Overal rating: 'Utterly and completely fantasmic' on a scale of 'kindling' to '*speachlessly joytastic*' ;p

Oh and can't wait for #9, hopefully there won't be the delays with that one.

Asia - [h3llskitten at hotmail dot com]

**Spoilers for issue #8**

Ok, I'm ignoring the story for right now.

196 gargoyles plus 25 eggs. No beasts. Since the clan's population is stablized that the indication that every female is only allowed to have 2 eggs, we know that those 25 eggs came from 2 generations: 50 gargoyles. Anyways, I wonder if the London clan will let their females have their 3rd egg as a means of boosting up gargoyle population world-wide since they have somewhere they could donate eggs to.

Matt - We're going to have to rework the old theories on gargoyle populations worldwide. It seems London is busting at the seems.

I had heard about the Jeremiah account as an alternate story. Now we learn that Shari is not necessarily always telling the truth, but rather repeating stories. Both King Arthur and King Macbeth were crowned on the same day? The same day as Feast of SS Michael, Gabriel, Raphael & all angels?

Nice to see King Arthur and Macbeth trading stories. Also, it's nice to see Nightstone venturing into 'legitimate' business.

Cu Culhullain split the Stone of Destiny in two? We know that one half talks, what about the other half? Will the two halves be united?

It's nice to see Griff taking Hudson and Lexington to the London Clan's home. Lex had a nice response to Griff's question about why the steel gargoyle and iron gargoyle look like Goliath, something we've taken for granted.

Whoa. The Stone of Destiny is also connected to Carbonek. I like the idea that "All things are true, few things are accurate" and Macbeth's reaction to it. It's nice to learn about the size of a gargoyle clan that managed to survive on its own to modern times.

It's nice that Thailog treats his subordinates the same way that Xanatos did: He would fire them for losing on purpose.

Last, we get the expected return of Coldstone and Coldsteel. We still don't know exactly what Xanatos's motives are in this whole affair. Far all we know, the I.S. want to put the two halves back together or have a private consultation before returning the stone.

I also hope that Amp is Lex's future partner. We really haven't seen many exchanges between them so far, but somehow it just seems like it's the start of something.

I want to know more about the bomb unit, Fox's shoes, the other members of the London Clan, and many other things. I'm hoping all the loose ends get tied up by the end of #9. I think they will.

I want to see MORE LONDON GARGOYLES! I'm really really hoping for a London garg that has a wolfish or foxlike face. That would be so cool. Though I'm really like Pog's hippogriff type design.

On one hand, I want to see what kind of villain Coldsteel becomes, so I want him to survive this arc. On the other hand, I really want Coldfire and Coldstone to dispatch of him so they can rejoin their clan. I guess these two aren't necessarily mutually exclusive: Coldfire and Coldstone could change their mind about tracking him down, or they could think they've "destroyed" him, but he secretly survives. Also, yet another major villain might not be the best idea, since the gargoyles universe is already packed with them. Oh well, we shall see.

Art > I still think Karine Charlebois is a better artist, and I would love to see her working on the main title. Though this is a definite improvement over 1, 2, and 3. I believe I agree with Demonskyre's assessment: the art in this issue ranged from almost okay to decent. He's still making the heads too big, among other things. One thing I will say: Lex was completely on-model for nearly the entire issue. I especially liked the panels with close-ups of Lex's face. Overall, the art is alright and I'm glad to see him improving, but I hope he CONTINUES to improve. Bevard's coloring is absolutely spot-on.

Xanatos clearly doesn't seem at all concerned that Hudson and Lexington (and after them, the rest of the clan) will have to know that he's behind this scheme, with not only Coyote 5.0 but also a couple of Steel Clan robots involved. Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Okay, before I review "Gargoyles".

Holy crap... Dr. Doom got his ass kicked! Okay, we've seen him get beaten before, but not like that.

Now, with that out of the way...

Okay, so the entire issue takes place in London, with the exceptions of Shari telling Thailog more about the history of the Stone of Destiny.

Macbeth and King Arthur team-up, and Lexington and Hudson team up with the London gargoyles, Sir Griff, Staghart (Amp) and Constance (Coco). Xanatos unleashes Coldsteel, Coyote 5.0 and two Steel Clan robots to attack the gargoyles in what has to be a distraction while he steals the Stone.

Speaking of Amp. I began to suspect it in December, so I'm calling it here... Amp is going to be Lexington's "special friend".

I loved the bit where Arthur and Macbeth are talking about why they're not centuries dead.

Arthur: ... mortally wounded in 542. So they shipped me off to some Magic Hill and put me to sleep for a thousand four hundred fifty-three years.
Macbeth: Sounds lovely.
Arthur: And you?
Macbeth: Deal with a demon in 1040. Officially died in 1057... been sleep-walking for nine hundred thirty-nine years.
Arthur: .... Guess I got the better bargain.

Then they toast to the immortals (toast Nightstone coffee! Demona and Thailog started their own Starbucks, they are EVIL!) and we get implication that Shari is immortal.

Oh, and Coldstone and Coldfire are back too. Though, I wouldn't call in the kitchen sink yet. Now, if Demona and Tony Dracon popped on over with Eric and Gunther Sturlisson, then yeah, I would expect the kitchen sink next.

I'm mildly concerned about your report about your local comic shop dropping the shelf copies, Demonskrye. I hope this isn't a sign that the comic is dying.

* SPOILERS *

I enjoyed this issue. A lot of great things in it.

Shari actually gives us two different accounts of how the Stone of Destiny got to Ireland - and we don't know which one, if any, is correct. I'd already read about the story that Jeremiah and Tamar brought the Stone with them after the fall of Judah, but the idea of the Stone also being the very same stone that Moses struck to provide water for the Hebrews was new to me (though, if the Stone of Destiny can also be the Stone from the Sword in the Stone....)

I'd thought that the "immortals" line was a reference to Cu Chullain, because of his reincarnation as Rory; I hadn't seen any significance in Shari showing up on that page. The story about him splitting the Stone of Destiny in half is new to me, as well (I wonder if it's Greg's way of explaining how the Stone got moved from Ireland to Scotland, when there's still a Lia Fail at Tara; the answer is, they're both parts of the same stone. Ingenious).

I wasn't surprised that Merlin was involved with the Stone of Destiny becoming the stone that Arthur would draw Excalibur from; I'd suspected that for a long time (especially since he already had a reputation for taking stones from the Irish for the benefit of Arthur's family). What surprised me was King Pelles' involvement as well. (He looks healthy in that picture - but then, Sir Balin and the Dolorous Blow are still in his future at that point.) And I was also surprised by Merlin's cowboy hat. (The weird part is that, on my way back home from the Gathering 2001, the airplane I was on showed a movie about a wizard accidentally transporting a medieval knight and his servant to the modern world. At one point, the wizard went forward in time to bring them back home, and while there, adopted a less conspicuous set of clothes, which included a cowboy hat.)

We also get in St. Columba (with a "Monsters" reference) and a devious-looking Kenneth mac Alpin. I suspect that the rest of Shari's story in #9 will involve Edward I carrying off the Stone (and maybe Macbeth and Co.'s attempt to recover it in 1950?).

On to the present-day parts of the story. Lots of great things here as well. We learn more about the London clan, and finally get to see their hidden estate. (Lunette's name, incidentally, is Arthurian; it's the name of one of the female leads in Chretien de Troyes' "Yvain, or the Knight of the Lion".) I laughed about Constance and Staghart's nicknames; more proof that Greg likes to recycle (along with the catacombs scene in Bad Guys #3). Too bad they don't have any gargoyle beasts.

It's a good thing that Macbeth doesn't know who's behind Nightstone Unlimited (or was, at least). Note the font for "Nightstone's", incidentally. I would have thought that Arthur and Macbeth would have had their catching up after "Pendragon", but this probably works better in filling in new readers.

I hadn't even noticed that one of those Steel Clan robots was really an Iron Clan robot; good eyesight, whoever detected it!

I liked Arthur's take on "All things are true". Also, Hudson's "So many books"; it's so appropriate to have him express an awe towards him while in the same room as Arthur and Macbeth, after the impact they both had in "A Lighthouse in the Sea of Time" (though I think Jeffrey Robbins played an even greater role in persuading Hudson to learn to read).

Count me as another who wonders whether Amp's going to be Lexington's "special friend".

Another fun little line: Hudson's Take to the sky, lads and lassie!" All three of the original comedy proposition's trio names now incorporated. Plus Thailog's retake on "The Edge".

Note that Shari's talks with Thailog are all happening in the early morning, presumably just before dawn. Another Scheherazade hint?

And points to everyone who predicted that Coldstone and Coldfire would show up. #9 is going to echo "High Noon" all the more now (it already did in the mention of the gargoyles being stone in the final act and unable to interfere).

Other things I'm looking forward to finding out in # 9: the significance of Vinnie's cameo (did anybody notice what his flight number was, by the way?), of Fox buying shoes, and Xanatos pushing that button on November 12.

Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

SPOILERS SPOILERS HEY IT'S SPOILERS

Adam> Correct me if I'm wrong, but the current story takes place in 1996. If Pog hatched then, he would be 158, the biological equivalent of a 79 year old human. Certainly old enough for his senior citizen's discount, but not ancient beyond belief. Keep in mind that part of the reason that the Wyvern clan considers Hudson a particularly old soldier is that the mortality rate among gargoyles during the tenth century was much higher and most gargoyles were slain in battle one way or the other long before attaining the age Hudson did. Given that the London clan has been living in relative isolation for a while and is just now starting to return to their role as protectors, it is possible that the oldest generations of the clan could be living to a very ripe old age.

Lunette and Pog> I do think that Chip is right that Lunette is the small unicorn gargoyle we see in stone, and likely the daughter of *L*eo and *Un*a. If gargoyle color genetics holds, she should be a tawny brown color, which will be a nice change from the usual white unicorn. I also think it's likely that Pog is the hipPOGriff. It's a good choice for a London clan gargoyle, combining the top part of a gargoyle like Griff with the legs of a hoofed gargoyle. The conversation between Amp and Lex does raise some questions though. Amp specifically mentions Lunette out of her generation rather than just mentioning the entire youngest generation as a whole. That and the fact that they're all standing in one group during the day suggests to me that Lex and probably Hudson met Lunette during the previous night. They may have met Pog as well, but in this case, Amp only mentioned Pog rather than "Pog and the other old fogeys" or something similar. Now as I mentioned, the main cause of gargoyle death in the tenth century was being killed by humans. But before Griff's return, the London clan's interaction with the outside world was minimal. So did the rest of Pog's generation just die of natural causes before him, or did something else happen?

Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

spoiler alert.

Spoiler alert.

After reading some of the spoilers listed here, it seems that people are lead to believe that this "Old Pog" is Griff's biological father. If that is indead the case, then Old Pog whould have been hatched in 1838, quite possible making him the oldest biologiacally living gargoyle in the world. 40 years and 2 generations older than even Hudson.

I tried ordering Gargoyles #8 at 1:00am this morning from online, but for some reason it wouldn't let me pay for it until this afternoon. I can't wait to get it. I'm gonna have a hard time not reading reviews on it, 'cause I like to wait and find out on my own what's going on in the comics, and not from other reviews online. I hope my copy gets here soon.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!

I MEAN IT!!!

DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES!!

OK, that's quite enough.

I'm really loving learning more about the London clan. Kudos to everyone who guessed the sow-goyle would end up being named Coco. Having it be a nickname for "Constance" makes sense, though I'm still wondering how Staghart picked is self-applied nickname. Now the reason that "I'll" is emphasized when Lex says "I'll call you Amp" is clear. Knight's Spur seems pretty cool as well. I hope we get to see more of it before we leave London, as we've never seen a place that's acted as a home for gargoyles for decades if not centuries. It'd be nice to see what kinds of comforts modern gargoyles like in their homes. I'm hoping we get to meet more of the clan too, and possibly learn why they're currently beastless. The idea that the clan is purposefully keeping it's numbers low is really interesting. It makes sense, but I never considered the possibility before. And I'm sure Christine and other students of gargoyle mating habits will be thrilled to learn that gargoyle pairs need to be forcibly separated to avoid mating when the females are in heat. :)

Nice to see Arthur and Macbeth talking. i like the interaction between the two of them and I hope they get more time to talk over their similar experiences in the future.

I'm guessing Shari is immortal, judging by how the preceding conversation overlaps the start of her next story. It's a nice twist to learn that she;s merely relating the tales and really isn't saying which - if any- are true. Fun to see Cu Chullain's role with the stone, though I doubt it will have much meaning to any new readers. And now we know St. Columba's significance in the "Gargoyles" universe, though I hope we get to hear more about him and whether the Loch Ness clan was at all involved. Nice little callback to "The Edge" too.

I'm guessing the thing with Fox's shoes is to show that the whole family Xanatos is so confident in their control of the situation that they can remain well out of the fray, even indulging in totally unrelated, casual activities. But I could well be wrong.

"All things are true. Few things are accurate." Priceless. And throws the first part we've been taking as gospel into years into some question. I'm figuring Macbeth's reaction islikely in reference to the Scottish Play.

Coldsteel and Coyote and a few bots make for a fun fight. Coldsteel gets in a few snide lines. And I very much liked seeing what a brawler Coco is. Good thing that Steel Clan bot was there to allow her to let loose. No surprise seeing Coldstone and Coldfire, as their entire purpose since we last saw them has been tracking down their brother. But it's a good thing they showed up, as the rest of the gargs won't be particularly useful come dawn.

I can definitely believe that Lex is developing at least a crush on Amp. I don't know, however, if the feeling is mutual and it's much too early to know if it's anything more than a crush. If I can understand Brooklyn going after anything remotely resembling a female gargoyle, I can definitely see Lex being interested in an unattached male gargoyle around his age pretty quickly.

So yes, really fine issue. Art ranging from solid to just shy of OK. I'm not crazy about the gargoyle eye-beams either, but I'll live with it. (Incidentally, the glow on Hudson's eyes looks a lot less blue and more clearly different from the electricity on the final cover that it does in the image on GargWiki.) My only real disappointment is that there wasn't more of it.

Got my issue today, and I loved it. SPOILERS AHEAD

My favorite bit was Macbeth and Arthur discussing immortality. Very nice, but that last thought of Macbeth's followed by the picture of Shari further confirms, to me anyway, that Shari is the original Sceherezade from 1001 Nights.

Also, I liked seeing more of the london Clan, very cool. And I also enjoyed finally seeing Merlin. It was unique, but not weird. It felt very appropriate for him.

All around, an excellent issue, with comedy, action, new gargoyles, and Coldstone! Cant wait for #9.

'Lord what fools these mortals be."

Hey I just picked up Gargoyles #8 and man did it really ROCK & ROLL! I shall post my review here now SPOILER ALERT!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW.

**SPOILERS**

"I have waited three months for this moment...And it was worth the wait." Gargoyles #8 "Rock and Roll" really does just that. ROCKS AND ROLLS! We learn so much about the London Clan, which was always my favorite clan, (and Knight's Spur, their estate, this clan has really strong ties to Arthur) Whoa! 196 members strong (or not so strong considering their form of Birth Control) with 25 to hatch in 2 years. I can't say for sure, but I believe that that is more than we saw in Japan, which makes the London Clan the strongest known clan. I wonder if other clans (Like Ishimura and Loch Ness) have similar breeding policies...hmmm No beasts though, that surprised me, as I figured Barghests, Grims, and other spectors were London beasts run amuk. Old Pog (Who looks cool as a Hypogriff type gargoyle) is prolly Griff's Biological father, (sorry, it's the human in me) and his staff having turned to stone with him was a nice touch, and cute little Lunette was obviously Leo and Una's Daughter. Cool.

Then there's Shari, who contradicts what she said last time (and nullifies my last review with my comments on Egypt, oh well now I feel "electric" sheepish.) "All things are true, few things are accurate." So which story is accurate? The first, second, both, or neither? And of course we've also got Cu Cullain, Carbonek, Moses, Jeremiah, Pelles, and not to mention Merlin. Major props for Merlin's design, very different from his stereotypical look, and very cool. (Ironicly Disney is primarily responsible for his look and Disney's Gargoyles is a sharp contrast I like it!) Plus the whole St. Columba story is just plain cool.

Let's give it up for Constance and Staghart, two very cool new gargs, I shall call them Coco and Amp. :) Do I sense something between Lex and Amp?

Arthur and Macbeth become better acquainted, and begin a friendship, and cement an alliance too. Nightstone? Thailog owns Starbucks?

And the meat of this story...tasty meat too. A battle with Lex, Hudson, Griff, Amp, Coco, Mac, and Arthur Vs. Coldsteel, Coyote 5.0, a Steel Clan Robot, and an Iron Clan robot. (Yes I caught that!!! You don't waste anything!) Naturally the Steel and Iron Clan robots are the first to go, and I'm sure Coyote is next. It remains to be seen weather Coldsteel will "live" or not. Coco's mid-air summersault was very cool as well. Dare I say it, but David Hedgecock's art has improved to the point where I actually love it! He has done a fantastic job, and Bevard's coloring is Phenominal.

And just when the chips are down and it looks as though Hudson is going to be dismembered, who should arrive but Coldstone and Coldfire. Time to Really Rock and Roll. I absolutely cannot wait for Gargoyles #9 there's just so much good stuff packed in here. Let's Rock and Roll. "Anyone order up the kitchen sink?"

Rock on.

Well, I just ordered my comics (my usual 3 copies) from Midtown comics. I also ordered 2 more copies of Bad GUys 1 since they mis shipped me 1 instead of 3 copies last time - plus I'm finally getting my Trade Paper back for Gargs 1-6. Wooo! Between that and getting my first Ipod, it's been a good week(Despite my cold). The comic can't get here fast enough.

I don't know which to smack with a paper more, Shara for making the tentacle comment or Mochi for saying something about it. I had hentai running through my brain for a split second as I looked at it. *thumps paper on her arm, in thought*

That said; WOOT!! Pretties! I really like this image. The coloring is great. Perhaps a little overkill with the rim lighting on Hudson, and the eye thing, but overall it's a good cover. Glee.

Brooklyn- Do you really think we can trust Xanatos?
Golaith- We can trust him not to destroy us in our sleep.
Hudson- Aye, he'd never be so wasteful.
Brooklyn- Maybe, but what if he's gear us for another scheme.

That gives me the impression that they do expect him to pull a scheme, so I doubt that they see him as a saint, but one of the lesser evils so to speak.

But it's his GOOD eye that's shooting light out.

Ricky > That was my thought too. That's part of the reason I assumed it was Hedgecock. It didn't seem likely that both Terrell AND Molina would do that.

The electricity coming out of eye makes it feel more real that Hudson is getting shocked for real, on the cover, at that moment, and his "dead" eye becomes, in a way, for a moment, "alive"! That's what I get from it.

The rock and roll cover reminds me of a tenticle hentai or anime tenticle thing . LOL
Shara - [Jeanie54_2000 at yahoo dot com]

I agree about the eye thing, it's not my favorite element, but its not something huge, I can definitely overlook it. For me, I love the overall cover so much, it's not a big enough aspect to have a negative affect on my enjoyment of the artwork.

However, I tend to think it's more of a Hedgecock thing as opposed to Molina...how is it that both Will Terrell and Jorge Molina would do the exact same thing? I have absolutely no clue one way or another who made the choice to do that, I just think it's a big coincidence that two different colorists would choose to do that the same way. Maybe it's just me...

Ricky

Wow, triple. **sorry**

I'd like to retract this comment:

"and a small finger wag to Molina."

I thought about it some more, and even though I really dislike what he did with that one eye, the rest of his coloring is overall very good, and it would be crude to be overly critical of one small detail while ignoring the rest of his good work. Overall he did a great job on the cover and is a talented colorist. I do hope that eye thing doesn't happen again, but if it does I'll try not to let it get in the way of my appreciation of the art.

Hopefully I won't make a quadruple post.

Rebel

Sorry for the double

Aldrius: "I'd love it if, in the end income, the gargoyles had no clue that Xanatos was even there. That'd be great. I have a feeling we're going to get one of those 'it was your job to get the gargoyle, not your fault Mace lost it' Illuminati endings."

I'm kinda hoping for something like that too. The gargoyles have only been very recently reunited with the Xanatos family; it'd be a shame for them to have a falling out again so soon. I hate to say it but I want to see Xanatos being manipulative, and if the gargoyles lose all trust in him again (not that they trust him much now...) there's less chance of that.

Rebel

Bishansky > I had no idea a colorist would add something like that that the original artist didn't even include. I know colorists play a massive role in how an image will ultimately turn out, but adding something like that seems like an awful overstepping of bounds. That's why I assumed it was Hedgecock.

My apologies to Hedgecock, and a small finger wag to Molina. Not that either of them are reading, but whatever.

Rebel

It'll be interesting to see the Xanatos-Coldsteel-Lexington/Hudson dynamic. How far will Xanatos go to avoid putting his fingerprints on Coldsteel so to speak? Obviously he's not an honest person, but will he avoid trying to enthrall Goliath's wrath? Is that maybe why he tries to steal it during the day in the next part? So that Hudson and Lexington 'won't see'?

I'd love it if, in the end income, the gargoyles had no clue that Xanatos was even there. That'd be great. I have a feeling we're going to get one of those 'it was your job to get the gargoyle, not your fault Mace lost it' Illuminati endings.

I wonder what Coldsteel's take on the gargoyles outside of those of his generation? Will he try and recruit them like Demona did? Will he want to kill them?

I'll be watching for that. After all, we know very little about Iago/Coldsteel other than him being a power-hungry schemer, hating his brothers (Goliath and Coldstone) and lusting after Coldfire. I suppose there's something to be said about him preferring a powerful robotic body to one of flesh.

Aldrius

If the cover got released, it's almost definitely out tomorrow. The last few, the same thing has happened, midtown has put the cover up the night before. Sweet!

Also, I *love* that cover. I think it's my favorite so far. It shows Hudson being kickass--something we don't see nearly enough of, IMO--and I really like the coloring job by Molina. I don't know that I would like it on a regular basis, but for this cover and as a contrast to Bevard's colors (which are certainly also strong), I really like it.

Meg

Ugh. Jesus. Somebody NEEDS to notify Rebel that colorists make choices like that. Will Terrell did that in issues 1 and 2 as well with Goliath.

Other than that, it's a nice cover. Hudson looks bad-ass. Incidentally, his other eye (the scarred one) looks perfect. I wish Hedgecock had made them both like that.

I take Greg's recent comments to mean that we'll probably have new canon material every month for the next 3 months. If either bg #4 or garg #9 gets completed by the time bg #3 comes out, and the uncompleted one gets completed by the 1st time gets released, we can possibly have 5 months in a row of new material once a month. Yea!! Multiple months in a row of new material coming out once a month equals good news for increasing comic sales.

Slg hasn't updated their website. Big surprise, there.

Good news all, Greg confirmed that BAD GUYS #s 2 AND 3 are both fully complete. So theoretically there should be absolutely no problem with putting them out bimonthly. Sooo hopefully the rest of BAD GUYS will be out on-schedule. And if the main title keeps itself to at most a month late, we're sitting rather pretty.

Score.

Demonskrye> I actually feel like no cover is going to be pretty standard from now on, at least for the main title. I don't think we've gotten the last two or three covers til the day of/night before. Bad Guys seems to operate differently, but I have a feeling this is how it's going to be with the main title.

Which actually raises something I'd been wondering--is Stephanie Lostimolo officially not involved with the franchise any more as cover colorist? I like Robby Bevard's stuff a lot, don't get me wrong, and I definitely hope he stays as the colorist for the interiors because he and Hedgecock seem to click, but Lostimolo's colors were also strong and I liked seeing fan involvement with the series.

April 23 would certainly be an appropriate day for any "Gargoyles" comic book to come out (whether "Gargoyles" itself or "Bad Guys").

Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Yay! #8 is coming!
Asatira

Good to hear about issue #8 coming out this week. All we're waiting for Greg Weisman to confirm it within a couple of days. I'm hoping we get bad guys issue #2 by April 23rd or April 30th.

From the unanswered questions:

Forgive me if this question has been asked before. Which episode does Elisa first show up in?

Anonymous writes...

What episdoe does Elisa get a shiny badge?

Those two questions could have been asked in here and the answers would have popped up within hours.

I guess I am 11th, for what it's worth. I hope this is the week that #8 comes out. Considering how long we had to wait for new canon matirial to come out, this wait should seem like nothing.

Perhpas we're all aware of this, but Johnny Modlin is back in the Ask Greg waiting list and it made me go "yugh" to see him there.

And the smell of more Gargoyles comics in the air? Yippee!

Spoonvonstup - [<-- Gargoyles Music Video Database]

Yes, it was on the invoice my comic book guy got on Friday. So woohoo!

And is anyone else curious and intrigued that Greg is now adding the 2198 dates to TDiGUH?

Spen - I've seen it where all top 10 spots were claimed within 1-2 minutes.

Here's hoping for the release a new comic this week and potential good news about bg #2.
