hope I got this right..

Battle Beast..
well, Broadway is Hudson's son.. as is Hyppolta(sp?).. though I thought True was smashed in the Wyvern massacre.. I doubt Hyppolta survived
also..
what I really want to know if True and the Beast survived the Rain of Death.. and where that bluish beaked Gargoyle was at the time the other members from COS are there

Constantine's sexuality.. was he like that in real life? wouldn't be surprised..
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

GORE> I LOVE the "Aprooved" Stamp on the Queue at "Ask Greg!"

Man you do such a great job with this site; I wish I could make my website HALF as good as yours!!! :)

battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

I never realised that Hudson had a child and I didn't know about Bronx's parents (Am I that in the dark (ages) about all of this?

I guess I should read more "ask Greg".

battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

LANDON - Thanks for the information. I think that most of us had suspected that
the gargoyle beasts were Bronx's biological parents and that the gargoyle child was True
, but it's great to have it confirmed.

I'd say more, but I'd rather wait until Monday, when the room's cleared.

NOW THAT'S THE KIND OF INFO I WANTED TO HEAR! It was a bright spot in an otherwise gloomy day (It's been raining non-stop since I got up.)

I know it's not much, but it's a start. It's better than "No" at all.

battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

Landon> Very interesting indeed.
I'm kind of suprised that Trie was a member of the Wyvern splinter clan. Going by the dates on GargWiki, she would have hatched before the split happened, so it wasn't a case of the gargoyles ho were leaving the castle just taking a couple of unhatched eggs with them. I wonder how they decided which of the young gargoyles stayed and which left. At such a young age, were they considered capable of making a decision that important?
Demonskrye - [<---"Ponyo" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

Did they mention the DVD release of Gargoyles Season Two, Volume Two and more Gargoyles Trade paperbacks at Gathering of the gargoyles 2009 during the opening ceremonies and is Gargoyles Season Two, Volume Two coming out on DVD?

Here are some of the things revealed so far:

Greg exists within the Spectacular Spider-Man universe as a truck driver. He was off-duty during his opening cameo.

Dan Vado told Greg at Comic-Con that he has lots of plans for Gargoyles comics that he wants to do, but it's all dependent on sales of the trade paperbacks.

Issue 11 spoilers:
In Demona's new clan, Hudson's biological daughter True wants to conduct the Wind Ceremony. In that same clan, the two beasts are Bronx's biological parents. Constantine may be bisexual (and he probably had sex with Finella), but his Gillecomgain-scar-admiring was purely platonic.
Issue 12 spoilers:
Script names Demona's 2nd and his mate:

2nd: Second
Mate: Sacrifice

Those are non-canon and for scripting purposes only.
Possible names for future comic story arcs:
Gargoyles: Manhattan
Dark Ages: Dream
Thom's suggested online name for Lexington: RockHard&Green (spelling undetermined)

I saw "Inglorious BAstereds" last night and, let me tell you, if you've ever wanted to see
adolf hittler
blown away, this is the film for you. It was amazing, totally fictious, and one of Quinten's best works.

about to go to bed. thought i'd check in first.

the radio play was awesome. the script was an original written by greg a few days before the con. all the voice actors who are guests at the con participated, including Marina Sirtis reading as Demona, Dominique and Margot. That was unreal. But hearing Daran Norris do J. Jonah Jameson, which was REALLY LOUD, was crazy awesome.

I was sitting by the registration desk earlier today when a woman started walking toward it. She looked EXACTLY like Aunt May and I said to myself "holy crap, that's Aunt May". And.. yeah, it really was Deborah Strang, the voice of Aunt May.

Michael Reaves showed an episode of a fan-produced Star Trek series episode that he wrote and starred George Takei. It was very cool to see Michael Reaves there.

After the radio play most of the pro voice actors stuck around to sign autographs for the fans. They all seemed to have really enjoyed it. I think the fans here enjoyed it too. I did.

The swag up for auction is amazing. There are Gargoyles products I've never seen before. For example there's a Gargoyels flashlight/clock thingie that's thin, rectangular, and black except for the Gargoyles logo. I put in a bid for it, but I'm guessing I've already been outbid.

Missed the bondage panel as I needed dinner, then headed over to the Blue Mug. Not too raunchy, although it had its moments. Blue Mug Production's staff showed up, including Edmund Tsabard. They showcased their adult web site (www.bluemugproductions.com) during which NOTHING HAPPENED.

Very fun.

I'm very tired.

Good night from LA.

It' just past one over here at the Gathering, and I just GOT to post that the Radio Play was AMAZING -- I do hope we get to see the full script and video online soon . . . this was just an absolute treat to see . . . and no doubt its greatness grew exponentially for fans of both Gargoyles and Spectacular Spider-Man d:

Again, its late, gotta get SOME sleep before later this morning, and my roommate has started to tire hearing me squee, so I had to post something ;)

Adam> Yep, I noticed. He also used that voice for Darkseid on the final two seasons of Superfriends.

I am watching the episode "Pendragon", and I noticed that Frank Welker (the voice of the Stone of Destiny) used the same voice for the Cave of Wonders in Aladdin. Has anyone else noticed this as well.

I am gald everyone is haveing a great time, and I am Glad Marina DIDN'T "Call in sick" so to speak. (I know some guests had done so in the past.

I was hoping for some news that lthere would be another Trade PB in the next year or so, but I guess thats a big pipe dream.

Any way, I have a new co-worker in the meat deapartment at Costco where I work and her name is Elise. I can't help thinking about Elisa every time I talk to her or hear her name. Kinda weird. i asked her if she seen the show and she knew of it... she said she used to like it and would definatly check it out on DVD, so who knows if she will or not, but I spread the word one person furthere... and I posted a blog on FACEBOOK about the new trades being out and the DVDs.

I think I will write a letter soon enough to Disney, but more on that later.

I'm glad everyone is having so much fun at the Gathering. I am also glad people are liking "The Last." I haven't as much invested as Vashkoda, but I have a certain pride in what I was able to contribute. There's a part of me that wants feedback on the parts I did. ^_^;

Anywho. Keep us updated. I wish I was there.

Does Marina Sirtis sound as awesome in person as she sounds on the show? Gosh, I love that woman's voice.

That's the Gargoyles panel going on right now. From left to right that's Greg Weisman, Marina Sirtis (Demona), Thom Adcox (Lex), Keith David (Goliath) and Jamie Thomason (voice director).

Michael Reaves showed up a few minutes ago.

Radio play cast has been posted and I'm in it. ROCK! It's going to be insane.

r)

*is very envious* Hope yer all having a good time at the gathering. Remember-Lots of pictures folks! *hugs to all*

Checking in from the registration desk at the con. Marina Sirtis IS HERE! Funny story as told to me by an anonymous source:

When Marina arrived she walked up to the registration desk where Sarah the Great was sitting and said to Sarah "I'm here to check in." To which Sarah replied, "Great! Who are you?"

Saw Marty and Lexy. Marty is the guy who started the whole comic book thing rolling after talking with Greg at a con several years back.

Keith David is standing outside one of the rooms as I type talking away with fans. He's very cool. Very approachable. It's awesome.

Thom Adcox is around. But nobody knows where he is. This is pretty standard for Thom.

Saw Crispin Freeman walking about and Josh Keaton's mug-a-guest was earlier today so I assume he's around as well.

Radio play casting should be posted in about 1 hour from now. The radio play begins at 5:30 CA time this evening.

Saw this book being handed out for twogargs.com that contains a comic about some original gargoyle characters. It is AWESOME. But when I go to twogargs.com I get redirected elsewhere, so ... what's the deal? I want more!!

A couple storyboard artists showed up as I was typing this. It's pretty crazy right now. Keith David has found himself a corner with a couch and a bunch of fans just stop and ask for autographs and chat him up a bit and he's smiling and telling stories.

It is such a cool atmosphere.

While the crew that's organized the vast majority of gatherings have decided they're not going to do any more, others can pick up the idea and run with it, and I hope someone does.

Hey everybody, I know this is a bit off-topic, but one of my favorite professors from my college days recently completed a documentary about the "brain drain" problem faced by students in less progressive parts of the country. Should they stay at the home they love, or move to a different city and/or state to have a good career?

Click my name to see the trailer. Let me know what you think, and feel free to post comments on the comments section of youtube. Did any of you face this issue when you were graduating college? Did you move to your current residence from somewhere else because you felt you couldn't have a worthwhile career back at home? Did you feel torn between living in a place you love and living in a place where you could be successful?

Kozispoon: the Gathering is the only comics/cartoon convention I've ever attended (albeit several times), and none of the big ones, so I'll probably be in for a shock next year at Comic Con if I can attend it.

as for the commission, you still have one for me to do (check your gmail adress, sent you an email yesterday)

have fun guys!

He's fire and ice and rage. He's like the night, and the storm in the heart of the sun

First day of the con was a blast. It's my first time at a relatively small convention so things like panels that weren't overstuffed, merchandise that was still there for you to nab while you shopped around, guest panels that felt like catching up with an old friend was a pleasant surprise.

Even Greg Weisman was surprising. I didn't know what to expect, but I was amused and happy to see the guy doesn't take himself too seriously. This series was and is fun for him. The fans are fun for him. A con virgin seeing all this made for a great first experience.

And holy crap everyone knew me! It was odd walking the dealers room and getting, "You're kozispoon!" I felt like such a jerk for not recognizing ANYONE. I plan and hope to get some time to do some on the spot commissions. I'm in it more for the joy of drawing gargoyles than cash (so that means I'm cheap! hehe), so hit me up!

He's fire and ice and rage. He's like the night, and the storm in the heart of the sun

Just checking in before bed from the con.

Vash: the Team Atlantis video was a huge hit. it's been awesome to watch it get more and more complete over the last few years.

Got in on the mug-a-guest for Ben Diskin who does the of Eddie Brock/Venom in Spectacular Spider-Man. Very cool guy. Fun trivia fact: he played the kid who looked up girls' skirts in Kindergarten Cop. And he went to the same elementary school as our very own Scott Sakai who maintains the A/V at these cons AND the server on which s8.org is hosted.

Small world.

Bad Guys and both volumes of Clan Building are on sale at the con. Very cool. I picked up my copy of Bad Guys.

Those Disney Gargoyles pins (of the logo) are on sale also. Someone got their hands on a box or two of those and are selling them at $2 a pop!! Keep in mind the retail for these was $5 10 years ago.

During opening ceremonies Greg Weisman presented the family of Gary Sperling with a copy of Bad Guys as well as a special piece of art made by Karine (I won't attempt to spell her last name from memory) who did the art for Bad Guys. It was a really touching moment.

Jen and Patrick were recognized as fan guests of honor this year for both of them being the cornerstone of this con for many, many years.

We had a lot of new people at the con. And there remain 3 fans who have been to_EVERY_ gathering. Amazing.

Radio play rehearsals going well. It should be insane tomorrow. No less than 16 pro voice actors will be taking part in the radio play, including Marina Sirtis. I can't wait. Hope I get cast in that.

Anyways. I'm way tired. Off to bed. Have fun!

Greetings from the Gathering!

"The suspence is terrible . . . I hope it lasts" -- Willy Wonka

I realized today, standing at work at 5:30 AM, that Leo + Una = Lunette. How could I have missed that?
battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

REBEL - I remember a Tolkien forum doing a similar project, called something like "A Tolkien Virgin". The guy reading Tolkien for the first time began with the Silmarillion, then moved on to "The Hobbit" (I forget his precise response to the tone of "The Hobbit" after coming to it straight from "The Silmarillion", but it must have been a serious jolt for him) and finally "The Lord of the Rings".

Ideally, he'd not only be new to "Gargoyles", but also be acquainted with Macbeth solely from the Shakespeare play; I'd like to see his response when he got to "City of Stone"and saw the way Duncan and Macbeth were portrayed in that version.

I can't see Coldsteel teaming up with the Pack, either - he's simply not canine enough.
I've wondered, though, what the Pack's response must have been when the expanded Manhattan clan came upon them at Times Square. I have the vision of Jackal shouting at Coldstone, "Hey, cybernetics is our shtick! Copycat!" and the Pack in general wondering out loud "Where'd they get a pet lion?"
Todd Jensen

Hope people are having fun at the con. I won't be able to make it until tomorrow, so yet again, I miss the showing of the Team Atlantis crossover video. =P Hope you guys enjoy it, we had a lot of contributions from fans this year (and some are regular posters here)

Rebel> That's been done several times over the years. I remember when there were reviews posted by multiple fans in here in a kind of scheduled "episode a week" fashion, or when Todd sequentially went over the whole series one ep at a time, or the posts inspired by Greg's "behind the scenes" reviews on each ep at Ask Greg. Though I suppose this can be started all over again, to give newer fans a chance to share their input.

Vashkoda - [<my name goes here> at gmail dot com]
D2 <Can I have it?>

Sorry for the double.

Guys, I have an idea. This may not be the best time to post it, what with everyone being excited about the trades and The Gathering, but what the heck. I'm a member of a Farscape forum, and a new member recently joined and created his own thread called "Watching Farscape: No Spoilers Please". Prior to starting this thread he had never seen an episode of Farscape. Basically what we do in that thread is, whenever he watches an episode of Farscape (he's going in order and is currently in season 3), he posts his reactions to it. It's refreshing for all the seasoned Farscape fans to see the new, fresh reactions and speculation from someone who doesn't know what's coming next. Other people have gotten involved too. When he watches an episode, they'll watch it too and post their own reactions to it and try to pick up on things they missed before. They'll make comments and have discussions on the episode in question, without spoiling him about anything that comes later in the series (although hints are acceptable).

After everything has calmed down after the trades and Gathering, maybe we should try to recruit a smart, literate person who writes correctly and has never seen an episode of Gargoyles (or at least, hasn't seen more than a few) to start watching the episodes in order, and posting their reactions to each episode. It might be refreshing for all of us to see their reactions and also revisit old episodes ourselves (particularly episodes which aren't your favorite and which you may not have watched many times).

What do you think? Would any of you be interested in doing this?

Rebel

I don't see Coldsteel as a solo villain. I'd like to see him mainly stick to team-ups with other main villains. The Gargoyles Universe already has so many incredibly villains as it is; I don't see why we need another uber dangerous solo villain. I could easily see him teaming up with Thailog or Demona, but as someone else mentioned, he would probably always have his own ambitions in mind.
Rebel

Hello from the Gathering, which officially starts in 6 minutes. Lots of people already here. I've got my video camera with me and I hope to catch bits of panels here and there to share.

Internet access is $10/day. So I'm borrowing access at the moment. I'll see about uploading something after opening ceremonies this evening.

The hotel is right next to Universal Studios. In fact you can see that spinning silver Universal globe thingie from my window. Last night I watched the Universal Studios Waterworld spectacular from the 24th floor. Very cool.

Battery is almost dead on this. Off to the first of many panels.

Tony> "Reeks" may be a bit strong. Aside from people who accidentally messed up the spoiler tags, I've only seen one or two minor spoilers posted. Everything I posted personally referred to something revealed in the already published single issue comics (Coldsteel fighting as part of a group rather than on his own, Sahri telling Thailog about the Coldtrio) or speculation on Coldsteel's future that does not directly relate to anything in the new material.

But even if I don't think people are intentionally omitting spoiler tages in every case, I agree that we need to try and be careful about discussing the new material in the trades for another week or two and keep it up with the spoiler tags.

Demonskrye - [<---"Ponyo" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

When discussing the new trades, can we be kind to those who may not have gotten it yet and use spoiler tags for maybe another week. This place reeks of uncensored spoilers.

Coldsteel - I too would like to see him as a real solo threat. Interestingly, I think it is hard for me to see him as one for the same reason why I want to see him as one - he is so undefined in terms of non-fighting ability. Xanatos, Demona, Thailog, Macbeth, Illuminati all have huge amounts of technological and financial resources available as well as their cunning. Demona also knows Magic. Archmage was uber magical. The Pack has all their Upgrades to make them a threat as well as being a team.

So what does Coldsteel have? I like the idea of him always being part of a group as a threat. That member of a group that always tries to work it out for his best interest. I could see him easily work with Thailog (Demonskrye, love your idea of Thailog's clan!) but only their for his own means.

I think I could see Coldsteel, as a solo villain, best being a sower of dissension. Trying to sow doubts and seed conflict in the Manhattan clan. A schemer and less of a doer (though we saw how horrible he can be in a battle!)

UncleDeadly

All showered and waiting for convention mates to get ready to head on over to the Gathering! Totally excited! Looking forward to rubbing elbows with the lot of you- see you there!
Kozispoon - [kozispoon at gmail dot com]

Coldsteel> The only one of your suggestions that I find unlikely, and not all that appealing to me, is D. I think the Pack is going to continue to be a somehow canine-themed or at least predatory animal-themed group and Coldsteel doesn't fit. If the Pack turns into just a team of random villains, they'll lose their identity.

I'd kind of like to see him go solo for a bit. Since his debut, we've only seen him this one time and I think he should be established as a threat to the clan all on his own rather than someone who can only do damage as part of a team. And it would help to establish his personality and motivations beyong being "the evil one." and having the hots for Coldfire. But eventually, I would be fine with him teaming up with either Demona or Thailog. Demona he has an existing history with and Thailog seems to be having a reasonable amount of success in his second attempt to form his own clan. Since he's already got a couple of direct counterparts to the Manhattan clans, he still has the DNA from "Bash," and he now knows about Coldsteel's existence thanks to Shari, I could see him trying to recruit Coldsteel as an effective counter to Coldstone and Coldfire.

As to whether the Coldtrio are still alive by 2198, I tend to doubt it, mostly because they aren't mentioned in the 2198 pitch and I just can't see why Coldstone and Coldfire at least wouldn't be major players in the fight to save their clan, all of gargoylekind, and the world. Since I wouldn't think that they can die of anything like "natural causes," my guess is that they would either be destroyed in the line of duty, sacrifice themselves for some noble cause, or eventually decide to shut down permanently and go to whatever rest awaits them at a time thwne they're certain that their clan will continue to thrive without them. (The last one seems a little more unlikely, as they could probably never be sure that some unaticipated new threat to the clan wouldn't come up later on.) Right now, I don't see Coldsteel giving up the ghost (so to speak) unless his robot body was destoryed beyond the point or repair, but again, we don't actually know all that much about him and there's nothing saying that he won't change over the deacdes.

Demonskrye - [<---"Ponyo" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

Coldsteel - Adam, I'm wondering, after his conversations with Coyote in Rock of Ages, if he isn't somehow going to be the one who helps get Coyote to have free will so Coyote can create the UltraPack.

I also wonder if the Coldtrio will be "alive" still in 2198.

UncleDeadly

Alright, let's start a new topic. Let's talk about Coldsteel's future. I want to get everyones opinion. Should he:
A. go solo

C. Team with Thailog or
D. Team with the Pack to for the Ultra-Pack as the fifth member.

What do you all think.

battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

After reading about so many people who either read, or aspired to read, "Gargoyles: Clan-Building" in one sitting, all twelve chapters, I did it this afternoon. It was an enjoyable experience.

I'd like to do an overview of what we've learned since the comic book began, but I'll wait until after I've read "Bad Guys" #5 and 6.

Todd Jensen

****Blaise fades into view as he arrives from the past.**** And now, on with the rest of the review.

BAD GUYS: LOSERS>
And now we meet the Director. Sort of. We never get a clear look at his face, or learn his real name. In a way this makes him the opposite of another surprise character, Monsieur Le Maire, who appears to be the Director's superior! We know his name (or alias at least), but we never see him, or learn exactly what organization they belong to. Just what we need, another "super-secret organization." At least this one seems to be trying not to fall into the "ends justify the means" trap.
I just noticed on my second read through that Falstaff stuffs his leg of meat into his tankard while talking. I guess if you enjoy beer soaked meat....
We get introduced to Falstaff's motley crew, and Dingo introduces his group (poor Fang's out cold for his intro), and we move to dinner. I love the look on Fang's face after Hunter says they "won't be breaking any bread" ("Uh...we won't?" with a mouthful of food). Interestingly, the Matrix seems to be sampling the silverware. I also enjoy Hunter's reaction to Dingo's defense of Falstaff as having raised him ("That's a recommendation?").
Matrix seems to confound Falstaff from the get-go. I particularly like the look he gives Matrix when it makes a statement in regards to its attempt to take over the world "with geometry."
Of course, we come to the part we saw in the trailer where Falstaff makes the claim that the Illuminati are the good guys, and brings in character witnesses for that. Namely, Fiona Canmore (who I seem to recall being an Illuminatus in someone's fanfiction), and Thailog (love Yama's initial call for someone to fix the color after thinking it was Goliath).
Both offer some wonderful character/plot moments. For Fiona, there's the revelation that the "family" has been looking for Robyn (just how big is the Canmore family anyway?), and that "the Hunt" is just a part of something larger (of which we are not told right now). Thailog describes himself as Goliath's "rookery son" (I felt I had to laugh at the audacity of that lie), and then says Fang will vouch for him. Fang's next line ("Sure. Thailog's my kinda gargoyle") floored me. Saying that EXACT phrase to Yama pretty much guaranteed that Yama would want nothing to do with the Illuminati. Actually, Fang brings a lot of surprises in this issue, but I'll deal with the rest later.
That is a LOT of treasure. I just had to say that.
I find it hilarious that everyone has to hop for the Matrix to form a "privacy bubble." It's a fun image--as is all of them crowded together inside. Meanwhile Falstaff is stymied in his attempts to eavesdrop on their conversation. The Matrix has done nothing to endear itself to him.
The inter-cutting of the Squad's "signing up" with the Illuminati and their earlier private conference in the bubble do an effective job of keeping the reader guessing. At first I was a bit confused, but on my second read through I finally figured out what was going on. They make the decision that the Illuminati cannot be trusted, but Dingo doesn't want to just nuke the place. In addition to wanting to spare the lives of his foes, he also wants to save the treasure and all the art and history contained therein (and proving himself closer to "hero" than "anti-hero" in the process), so they play along. Their attempt at infiltration goes south, however. Maybe it was Falstaff's halfhearted acceptance of Hunter's claim that she works for Interpol, or the fact that the Thieves were already surrounding them, but something convinces Fang that Falstaff is onto them, and he starts blasting (taking out Doll first, probably for payback).
There's a lot of stuff with this fight I like:
-how quickly and easily the Matrix neutralizes Mistress Quick.
-Dingo's unhappy look at having to face off against his old mentor.
-Yama's rather unique method of defeating Points (yet another showcase of something that would NEVER have made it on television). Interestingly, I think there are actually stories from Japan of swordsmen defeating opponents with such tactics.
-Hunter's graceful handling of Bardolph.
-And Pistol's surprise entrance with a BFG.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if Matrix really could blow up the island (I find that more believable than it lying about such a thing--doesn't seem programmed for that yet). The fact that the island is a freakin' submarine caught me by surprise, but not as much as Falstaff's casual dismissal of them all drowning. After all that he'd seen/heard about the Matrix, did he really think something like this would kill them? And he didn't seem too upset about the capture of Mistress Quick (who has a whole "screaming statue" thing going on). Speaking of which, I wonder if she's at all conscious throughout this sequence.
Matrix makes a nice raft. I really enjoy the conversation here at the end, especially Yama's little speech. Even if he doesn't feel he has redeemed himself yet, he certainly seems more at peace than he was in "The Lost." I also enjoy everyone's surprise at Yama's statement that Fang was actually "more right than wrong." Actually, Fang is surprising in several ways, not the least of which is how helpful he is to the squad. He subtly indicates that Thailog (and by extension, the Illuminati) is untrustworthy, doesn't give Falstaff time to trap them, and sounds almost philosophical about losing the mission but surviving. The serious look on his face while Yama gives his speech caught me off guard, too. I never would have pegged Fang as interested in redemption before. I wonder if Tasha's suicide had something to do with it.
So Yama turns to stone in mid-sentence before he can say how they'll know they are redeemed, much to Fang's (rather humorous) consternation. I love how Yama's Squad uniform does not turn to stone with him. I'm also rather surprised at the smile Hunter and Dingo share. It's nice to see them not sniping at each other for once.
Nothing left to say really, except about that sketch on the inside of the back cover. I don't remember Hunter kissing Dingo like that in these comics! Here's hoping we see something like that in a comic in the near future.
Those of you going to the Gathering, I will see you there tomorrow! Everyone else, I'll talk with you later on these boards! Until next time! ****Blaise does a little hop in the air and is suddenly encased in a silver bubble that floats up and out of the Room.****

I kind of wish I didn't pre-order Bad Guys at Barnes and Noble, I guess I am getting impatient waiting when I could of just ordered it from SLG and gotten my copy already... But oh well, hopefully it should only be a few more days to wait, back when I pre-ordered it, they told me Aug. 25 would be the day it would come out... I just have to be patient... Have fun at the last Gathering everyone. I wish I could of gone, but I can't afford it right now, I've been without a job for a long time. I feel a little sad I haven't even gone to one Gathering. I was going to go in 2005 with a friend, but it ended up we couldn't afford it and I still had classes to go to in July when the Gathering was going on during that year. Well I look forward to hearing about how the last Gathering went.

I leave for the Gathering tomorrow morning. I wish I could have stayed an extra day and gone sightseeing but with work and school that was not possible. Oh well.

In response to everyone's pondering of when we will get new material>

I know Greg lets the fandom know as soon as something new develops but I found this to be really encouraging.

"dino writes...which color is Samson"

"Greg responds...You'll have to wait and see."

It seems that Greg would usually respond with "No comment," or something to that effect. The fact that he responded the way he did make me think maybe there are negotiations about the tpb's and he is just doesnt want to get our hopes up but things are looking good.

I could be completely wrong though. I know that all that depends on the sales of the new trades.

Lurker - [JohnR783 at hotmail dot com]

I got a call from my comic book store and they said that both CB2 and Bad Guys is in. I already have a copy of CB2 but I will buy another one to help sales.

Have a great time at the Gathering, everyone! I'm hoping especially for a report on the crossover Radio Play when you get back; it sounds great.

I posted reports on "Clan-Building Volume Two" on an Arthurian mailing list that I subscribe to, and on a message board dedicated to the Arthurian role-playing game "King Arthur Pendragon" (which, incidentally, is a great game, and I'd recommend it to all King Arthur fans here); since Arthur has a major role in the first half of the book, I thought it would be appropriate (it's certainly a great way to spread the word without appearing irrelevant or obnoxious). I also mentioned that, while Arthur's not in the second half, a lot of it's set in medieval Scotland, which would appeal to the other subscribers or message-board frequenters.
I even mentioned that many of the human participants in the Scottish civil war dominating the second half of the book were ancestors or relatives of many of the major characters in "Macbeth".
No comments back yet from either mention, though I noticed that seventeen people visited my post on "Clan-Building Volume Two" on my latest visit to the "King Arthur Pendragon" forum.

Got my copy of CB2 last night. No shelf copies. No Bad Guys either. Diamond has been horrible about getting my local comic shop all of their order on time. The owner is expecting Bad Guys next week or so.

Read through CB2 last night, but I should probably take another look at it since I insisted on reading it despite having a headache and nausea due to spending too much time out in the heat yesterday, not being able to read all that well between the smaller format and no natural light, and being to tired to process the fact that Brooklyn's adventures take place after the flashbacks in "Avalon" but before the flashbacks in "City of Stone." (I know that seems like a no-brainer, but it's been a while since I watched either and again, I was tired.)

Demonskrye - [<---"Ponyo" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

My comic shop only got Bad Guys in, no Clan Building Volume 2 (must be because Bad Guys was printed here in Canada and CBV2 was overseas, I believe?). Which is fine, 'cause I have lots of other comics (and books, I might even bring along books) to read on the drives from Toronto to Ottawa and then Montreal...but I was all set to do a major Gargoyles comic re-read of the first 8 issues of the main series along with the new stuff in the trade while in the car. Ah well.

Enjoy The Gathering guys, and all the comic reading and discussion. Can't wait to read all about both when I get back from a wedding and dude-time.

"Gargoyles, Bad Guys: Redemption. #6: Losers"
We pick up where we left off, but, at last we meet the mystery man who is behind the Redemption Squad. A man obscured in shadow called 'the Director.' We don't see much of him, but he works for an organization which, I suspect, is trying to bring down the Illuminati.

Anyway, Falstaff introduces his band of freaks. Pistol (a gun fighter); Points (swordsman); Bardolph (He breathes fire); Mistress Doll (a contortionist); and Mistress Quickly.

Falstaff then invites the Redemption Squad to dinner. Dingo is asking Falstaff the questions; Hunter is sitting there fuming in silence; Yama is listening; Matrix is absorbing metal; and Fang is stuffing his face.

Falstaff decides that the Redemption Squad would make a great asset, and on behalf of the Illuminati, he offers them membership. Besides, the Illuminati is only trying to save the world. Which I am sure is true... from their point of view. And he can prove it.

Hunter is given a chance to speak with her great-aunt, Fiona Canmore. This made me bug out a little, because a year or so ago, I asked myself "if Fiona Canmore is supposed to still be alive in 1997, when she was hunting Demona in 1920... what if she was an Illuminatus and had access to their rejuvenation drugs?" But I never expected to see it in the canon. Gargoyles Fans Collective Conscious strikes again!

Across the room, Yama and Fang are connected to... Goliath. Except the coloring is off, and Yama asks for someone to fix the color. Whoops, it's not Goliath it's... Thailog. He asks Fang to vouch for him. Which Fang obliges.

Meanwhile, Dingo cannot believe that Falstaff got out of the life... but, what better job is there for the world's greatest thief than to guard the world's biggest treasury. The island: Eastcheap Isle is the Illuminati's treasury. And we see a room that would make Scrooge McDuck green with envy.

So, the Redemption Squad are left to confer. Join the Illuminati or not. But Yama knows the Illuminati cannot be trusted. And why? Because Fang vouched for Thailog and Fang knows the rest of the squad doesn't trust him. Really sneaky Fang.

So, we have a nice fight between the squad, and Falstaff's gang of freaks. But when the Redemption Squad gains the upper hand, Falstaff sinks the island... which is actually a ship. The Redemption Squad manage to escape... having lost this round.

Now, some might find it a bummer that the Redemption Squad didn't really achieve a victory here... beyond capturing Mistress Quickly. Falstaff and the rest of his crew escape, with the treasury.

But, Yama sums up what this was really all about. The never ending struggle for redemption. But Fang is just happy to have survived. He's not interested in redemption... maybe one day, but not yet.

Overall, a fun introduction to what I am sure would have been a great series. Greg's writing is as sharp as ever. But I have to say that I've always admired Karine Charlebois' art. I've watched her grow as an artist since 1997. But, with these comics, you can see her getting progressively better with each issue. She's great.

I know that if we get a license renewal and we get more spin-offs, Greg is planning a Dark Ages story, then a Pendragon story, then a TimeDancer story. But, I'll be honest. This really whetted by appetite. I want to see more of these characters and this team.
Greg Bishansky - [<----- Gathering 2009]

Well, I was able to pick up my copy of Bad Guys earlier today, and I got to say I was giddy as a schoolgirl as I bought it :)

A little late to give some thoughts, but I will say this: I really, really, hope we get more stories eventually . . .

And hey, if the interim between the end of the show and the comics debut (what was that, TWELVE years?) didn't kill the fandom, then I'd say we got a pretty good shot d:

**checks time** Wow. I've got to start packing, I'm flying to Los Angeles in the evening, and I know I won't have time in the morning or afternoon.

I've never been to a Gathering before, so I'm really, really looking forward to this! Along with the countless guests and events, I just can't wait to talk about the new Trades with fellow fans -- in person :D
"1. How exactly did Brooklyn leave 997ad to get back to the present?"

The phoenix brought him back to the present... after a forty year travel through time. Brooklyn mentioned this in the comic.

"2. Did Finella really take the grimmorum?"

Yes...

"3. Did they decide to go with Brooklyn? If so, where are they?"

Yes... I believe Greg Weisman said that they were left in the 1970s somewhere... and eventually gave Xanatos the Grimorum.

"4. What exactly happened to Demona after she gave Brook the phoenix gate half? What happened after Brooklyn left?"

She never gave it to him. Brooklyn asked for it just to get the Grimorum out of her hands. I think he, Mary, and Finella were eaten by the phoenix right after.
****A cardinal flies in through the window and morphs into Blaise.**** Hi all! Writing from a friend's computer as I house/dog sit for him. Sitting on pins and needles just waiting for the Gathering (now just the day after tomorrow!). $17 for parking, though...looks like I'm taking the train.

TRADE PAPERBACKS> Funny thing...my local Golden Apple comic shop got the "Bad Guys" trade in yesterday, but not "Clan Building Vol. 2." And it doesn't look like they'll get it this week at all. So, I'll probably have to wait until the Gathering to [bold]finally[bold] read the darn thing. In the meantime....

BAD GUYS: STRANGLED>
Wow. We finally get to where the leica reel ends (with all the requisite high action). All the while it is interspersed with flashbacks--the most interesting being the look at Dingo's past. It's sad to see how quickly the news his mother's walked out again quells his joyous mood (did anyone else see how he crushed his math test in his fist? One thing about Karine's art: it's so full of little details). I knew something wasn't quite right with John from the way he was holding the door closed, and the look on his face. I will admit, I kind of figured he had killed Mariah, but I didn't expect the shot at the end of the comic with his friggin' hands still around her throat! That one was a shocker (though after the suicide, I wonder why that should be). Actually, seeing John Oldcastle's interactions with the young Harry is very disarming. He does seem to genuinely care about the boy (but that could just show how good a liar he is). As a side note, I know that the comic gets away with a lot, but young Harry's joking question about John being a "molester" raised an eyebrow.
The "teaching montage" is just beautiful. Shows where Dingo learned most of his skills, but not necessarily his style (the surprise on John's face when teen-Harry proudly displays his new haircut is hilarious). One question that is not resolved: WHY did Oldcastle kill Mariah? A story for another day, I guess.
Loved the shot of Dingo saving Hunter. The look on her face during that sequence is priceless. Of course, immediately after that "moment of weakness" (so to speak) she pushes off Dingo and free-falls(!) to take out another robot. Damn!
I loved Dingo's reaction to Robyn's rather melodramatic description of the Illuminati as a "super-secret organization trying to take over the world. ("Seriously?") You've got to feel for Dingo. Even after leaving the Pack, his life refuses to stop acting like a comic book. At least this time he's a hero.
Yama's still not happy about Fang coming along. He's even less happy about losing that sword. I loved the robot POV just before its destruction, as well as Yama's casual inspection and then discarding of the head.
Dingo tries to help up Hunter, she blows him off, and for some reason has a smug smile on her face (is she just proud of blowing up a robot herself?). Actually, Dingo really seems to be looking out for Hunter here--when he calls out the possibility of a trap, he has his right arm out as if to shield her or hold her back. She is not impressed, of course.
Matrix as a light source (that's a little TOO bright). Win!
"Guess we came to the right secret lair." Indeed, you have to admire the subtlety of that gigantic wall decoration.
And then we are introduced to a nimble young woman apparently named "Doll." All I can say about the last panel of her introductory page, where she sends Fang flying with a flip that leaves her doing a handstand with her legs wide open, is "SWEET JEEBUS!"
Other folk include a heavily scarred fire-breather, a woman who runs really fast, a guy who looks like a "Pirates of the Caribbean" extra (who manages to cross blades with both Yama and the Matrix), and a guy who would look at home in a Robin Hood film except he's armed with guns. And is fast enough to outdraw Hunter, not to mention skilled enough to shoot the gun out of her hand. Oh yeah, and his name's Pistol. At least that's what Dingo calls out because he apparently knows him--and who he's connected with.
And here comes the revelation: Dingo's old mentor John Oldcastle is the one calling the shots, and he's now known as "FALSTAFF, KING OF THIEVES!" (Am I the only one who hears this guy being voiced by BRIAN BLESSED?) Okay, how does he manage to get BOTH nubile young women hanging off him like that? And he does it while sitting in a throne, with a leg of meat in one hand and a tankard in the other. A more important question would be, how can I put myself in that position?
As I said, the artwork is incredible and rich in detail. I am a little sad at not seeing the cover for issue #5 (Dingo's wanted poster) in color, but that's a minor gripe.
There. Hopefully I did the spoiler tags right (and the bold ones as well).
I'll talk about "Losers" tomorrow, along with the eye-catcher at the very end of the trade.

Until next time! ****Blaise fades out of sight as he sends himself into the future.****

The One Known As Mochi - [shogi dot keima dot 08 at gmail dot com]
Current Mood: (>/ \)> Can't go...

At long last, I have Clan-Building Volume Two in my hands! Like most fans, I have been dreaming of this for a full year. To be able to have it in hand and read it is delightful beyond words. So I'll just start on my review then, shall I?

Chapter Nine: Rock of Ages
Just a few months before CB2 came out, I got the chance to spend three weeks in England and Ireland and a single day I Scotland. On that day, I got to tour Edinburgh Castle and view the Treasures of the Crown, including the Stone of Destiny. I got a little giddy seeing the Stone in Scotland because I could imagine the battle between gargoyles and robots being fought over it the night before its transportation. Sadly, I wasn't allowed to take a picture; I could only gawk for a moment before getting shooed down the line with the other tourists. So it's a pleasure to have seen the Stone of Destiny before reading the conclusion of this arc. (On the same trip, I visited and Eskimo-kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland; however, I had no idea until reading CB2 that one of the theories of the Blarney Stone's origin was from the Stone of Destiny. Quite exciting I visited the pieces from the same Stone twice :D)

We got to see the conclusion of the big air battle from the last issue. I liked the glance back to Tibet and seeing the two monks from 'Reunion'. I think its fitting that Coldstone returned to them to show he had overcome his inner turmoil.

As always, it is a pleasure to see what new way the Coyote Robot will bite it next. And I love the free will chit-chat between Coldsteel and Coyote.

I will admit that I was one of the readers who was confused about who had the 'real' Stone of Destiny by the end of it: Xanatos, the Illuminati, or Scotland? But, with the help of your Ramble and by rereading it a few times, I came to understand the fact that all the pieces of the Stone (whatever their name and location) are considered to be part of the Stone of Destiny. I am guessing that the Spirit of Destiny (I believe that's what it's called on GargWiki) can jump between the fragments as it sees fit. Hence being unable to be possessed by any one mortal.

Favorite part of the whole arc: the greetings exchanged between the Stone of Destiny and the Holy Grail. I think it's simple and just so totally perfect that these two artifacts of immense power say, "Hey." Its beautiful. I may cry.

And Shari ends things right where they began. That is some fine storytelling on her part. I like her as a storyteller.

All in all, I thought it was a fantastic conclusion to the Stone Arc. I'll admit, the non-linear storytelling took some getting used to but I was hooked by the end of it. My only disappointment is that we don't know why the London Clan doesn't have any gargoyle beasts, which we are all curious to know because it seems like there is more of a story behind it than simply "They all died out". Oh well, gotta save some mystery for when the Gargoyle Graphic Novels get picked up, right? Well done, well done!
Litwolf
<Be happy for me and for all who fly free.> - Tobias of Animorphs

"Gargoyles, Bad Guys: Redemption. #5: Strangled"
This issue is told somewhat non-linearly, but no where near to the extent as the recent Stone of Destiny story in "Gargoyles."

Parts of this center around Dingo's past. We see Dingo/Harry Monmouth as a small child rush home only to be told by his surrogate father figure, John Oldcastle, that his mother, Mariah, has run off again. Mariah is apparently a bit of a free-spirit... and this was the 1970s. Young Harry seems hardly surprised, as Mariah has done this before. But John promises to take care of him. And, for the next decade or so of his life, John... a professional thief and criminal trains Harry and the two of them pull off a series of heists.

In the present day (hee hee, 1997), Hunter informs the now full squad of Dingo, Matrix, Yama, and Fang, that their next target is an Illuminati stronghold on an island. So now, it all comes together. This is the island that we've been seeing this squad battle those giant robots.

The squad destroys the robots and enters the stronghold, where they discover a gigantic Illuminati banner, and they are ambushed by a bunch of freaky villains in Renaissance get-up. Dingo immediately recognizes one of them as someone he worked with when he was younger and pulling jobs with John Oldcastle, and knows who they're up against.

Enter John Oldcastle, who now calls himself Falstaff. And like the Falstaff of William Shakespeare's "Henry IV," Falstaff is a rather large individual who loves to eat and drink. He also refers to himself as the "King of Thieves." The Shakespeare character was a thief as well. Gotta hand it to Greg, if he can reference the Immortal Bard, he will. Shakespeare is always a wonderful thing to include, and like the series, you don't need to be fluent in it to enjoy it.

And while I'm on the point, there was a historical John Oldcastle. He was arrested for heresy, escaped from the Tower of London, and plotted to capture King Henry V (they used to be friends) and his family. He was eventually executed... hanged and burned. They say Shakespeare based his Falstaff off of John Oldcastle. Which makes Weisman's choice in the name very appropriate.

Falstaff greets Dingo with a big manly hug... and then we cut back to our flashback to Dingo's youth, when he returned home to discover his mom had taken off again. Only, she didn't take off... John Oldcastle strangled her to death in their bedroom.

I liked this issue. Everything seems to be coming together, and the story has caught up with itself. I also think that final page outlines the advantages of the comic book medium. "Gargoyles" on TV got away with a lot, but S&P would hardly allow any cartoon series to depict a man with his hands around the throat of a dead woman (and make no mistake, she is already dead in that shot) in their bedroom.

To be concluded...
My review for #6 will come... as soon as I can. Maybe later tonight. If not, then after the Gathering.

OK MY SPOIELR TAGS DIDN'T WORK... WHAT DID i DO WRONG???

GOT MY TRADES TODAY!!!

Let me first start off by saying: Awesome Job, to everyone who worked on the trades!
Second, here comes my reviews on them both:

WELL. It took a while, but finally I got to read ALL ABOUT our beloved clan. And let me add that I hope Greg is writing future stories as we speak. It would be nice if Greg had them all written, inked, pencilled, and ready to go to the printer if/when a license agreement could be reached, so there wouldn't be a delay. But that is a large pipe dream.

When we left off...
Hudson and Lex were in London fighting Cold Steel. Cold Fire and Cold Stone both showed up.

I knew as soon as they showed up they would be comming back to Manhattan.

And they did. I was hoping to see more of the London Gargoyles, however we only got a brief glimpse of them. No matter. And Leo and Una made a cameo!

We still don't know who Lex's mate will be, and it's not Amp for the moment.

The stone of Destiny is... somewhere. Someone has it. Do we know for sure, or did I miss something? It was kinda confusing as to what was going on (at least to me it was). ZSo the important deal about fox's shoes was to have the shoe box to put in the case? Huh.

Didn't they make a movie about stealing the Stone of Destiny? Did Greg copy that? I don't know who the blond guy was, and I still don't know where the stone is... I'll have to re-read.

Brooklyn gets sucked into the time-travel scenario we've all been waiting for. I must say that it was not quite like I thought it would be...

I liked the whole thing, though.

The cartoony drawings on the wanted poster really gave me a chuckle. It reminded me of that 50's-era commercial off the simpsons when Homer visits the Duff Brewery (the Q-zone, pure Duff Goodness commercial).

So, the lady who was like, "Three", was that the Lady of the Lake?

I liked the line, "We should have a wind-ceremony!" "Not now, young one."

I LOVED the look of Demona's clan. That party of the story filled in gaps in CoS. "It's a good thing we had the rest of her clan destroyed," and now we see it! LOVE the designs of the clan. Two beasts... did Greg re-design the clan from CoS, or is this a different clan altogether?

As for Brooklyn's family, I thought he was to have twins, but Greg's ideas must have changed. I still love the name "Nashville", although I am not carzy about the name "Fu-Dog". I do, however, LOVE the designs of Brooklyn's family, and older Brooklyn. He looks like he did in "Future Tense." And the Eye patch... it shows he's been through a lot.

Greg totally left it open for more adventures, and I can't wait.

"BAD GUYS"

Now this one didn't end as I'd have liked, but I was still very entertained.

Falstaff is Dingo's... ...friend? He killed Dingo's Mother?

There was no resolution to the story, maybe a minor one, and Greg left it open for more stories, too.

Yama got a Sword through the abdomen and it didn't kill him? Huh. And Falstaff had the Mona Lisa? I've seen it up close and it's not at all easy to steal! So how he got it... only in the Gargoyles universe.

We did learn more about Dingo, which I liked. I knew, when I saw "Upgrade" that he wasn't a bad guy at heart, because he didn't "turn himself into a freak", and "Walkabout" confirmed that.

Props to Karine for he wonderful artwork on the series... you did a terrific job!

Props to everyone for their work on the Comics and trades and assorted cannon!

Can't wait for more!

MOre when I re-read...

Dang! Neither of my local comic stores has Bad Guys in stock... nor do Amazon or BarnesandNoble.com How disappointing is that? I'm glad others are enjoying them though.

Todd> This one is no where near as drastic. But, if it makes you feel better. The updated Redemption Squad entry is still safe. Just... confirmation of something.

So though the first recover didn't work, I whipped out the recovery DVDs and I'm back on my own PC but with a HECK of a lot of updates to do. Seriosuly, there's 110 updates waiting!

Oh yeah, did I mention I have to work tonight, and get maybe 3 hours sleep when I get home before I have to leave for the airport? I hope I sleep on the plane, cause seriously I'm gonna be down for the count.

Hope to see everyone at the gathering! Well, those of you who are going anyway.

For the con this weekend I'll be bringing along my woot.com special HD camcoder (http://sellout.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=8725). I just picked up a little bendy tripod thingy and an 8gb memory card for it.

If I can score internet access while I'm at the con I hope to post some videos during the weekend to youtube, which should let you view them in the original 720p that the camera records in. And with an 8gb card I should be able to score the entire radio play in a single shot.

Hopefully someone with better video (and audio) equipment will also be recording at least the radio play. With so many pro voice actors involved in this year's con it's going to be nothing short of spectacular.

I leave tomorrow, so if you don't hear from me over the weekend, either I'm being kept busy with the company of many beautiful ladies or there's just no interwebs access.

Gorebash

So my PC hsd been wonky the past few days. Tried to fix what was wrong, no go. Attempted to reinstall SP3, that failed and corrupted the whole windows partition. BEAUTIFUL. Most of my stuff is already backed up on an external HD, except for some very recent files that I need that were being stupid and gave me errors (they were media file for my youtube account).

So now, the day before I leave, I have to recover and format my HD. Just absolutely wonderful.

In other news, once my friend and I decided for sure to attend the Gathering, I wanted to take part in the Masquerade, but couldn't find someone to make me something on short notice (cause I can't even sew a simple pillow). Now rooting through my closet, I might be able to make a makeshift outfit last minute (ya old prom dresses and colorguard uniforms!). It's gonna look weird if I end up doing it, but hey, what the hell; it's not everyday you get to dress up without feeling foolish.

I hate my dad's keyboard too. Had to fix so many typos. I want my G15 back!

So how is everyone else holding up?

Andrea

I'm going to try to get to my local comic shop soon and see if the trades are in. My husband just called and asked if I wanted to do anything this evening and it completely slipped my mind to suggest that we hit the comic book store. But we haven't decided on anything yet, so maybe when he calls back I can convince him/bribe him with a trip to Chipotle.

Reading the radio play for Hunter's Moon Part Three and The Reckoning (as well as the one for Gargoyles #3-5), I've noticed the additional scenes that weren't in the onscreen/published story.

That said, I'm guessing that the one for #7-9 had some scenes not published. If that's the case could anyone list the scenes not seen?
Todd: To be honest, I couldn't imagine the Stone of Destiny saying "hey" either. And I actually liked the Grail's appearance. I think it's a common assumption, based upon the symbolism used by Western religion, that the drinking vessel used at the Last Supper needed to be a chalice. But I'm pretty sure people back then drank out of bowls, and if there's one thing the scriptures all have in common in their interpretations of Christ, it's that he wasn't proud. Also, if I remember the movie "The Last Temptation of Christ" correctly, Jesus passed the wine around in a wooden bowl when he served the Last Supper.
Todd Jensen

I just got my copy of "Clan-Building Volume Two"!
A few beginning comments.

I'd speculated on what parts of the Stone of Destiny's story Shari would tell in #9, and came up with four. Three of them were included (Edward I taking the Stone away to Westminster, a piece of the stone becoming the Blarney Stone, and the 1950 theft. The only one that didn't get into #9 was James VI of Scotland crowned upon the Stone in 1603 as James I of England - pity, since I'd have liked writing his entry for the GargWiki. At least I get to do the entries for Edward I, Robert the Bruce, and Bannockburn.

Edward I looks a bit foppish when he's posing for his portrait - that would be more appropriate for his son (if you want to discuss gay medieval kings, Edward II was the epitome!).

So Duval is the guy with the cybernetic eye and hand - there seem to be a lot of one-eyed guys running about the Gargoyles Universe, with Hudson, Odin, and post-TimeDancer Brooklyn? And he and Percival - sorry, Peredur - are not the same guy after all?

And the Grail is a plain wooden bowl (though I'm familiar with that take on it). I must admit, I'd never admitted it to be informal enough to say "Hey".

I liked the TimeDancer story as well, with all the new Scottish history elements (including Greg incorporating Constantine's baldness and Gillecomgain being one of Macbeth's relatives). And - wow! The Phoenix Gate becoming an actual phoenix!

I wonder if the Pack attack at the end would have been the subject for #13, if the comic book had been renewed, or if it's just a "hero's work is never done" type ending.
Thanks for the new stories, Greg Weisman. Now we await "Bad Guys".

That's great news about the trade paperbacks!

A thought about "Gargoyles" #8 that I've had for a while. It contains a great example of how to handle an in-joke well. When the gargoyles are planning to do battle with Xanatos's robots, Hudson addresses his fellow-gargoyles as "lads and lassie". Now, the names of the original versions of the trio in the comedy development were Amp, Coco, and Lassie; Staghart and Constance have the "Amp" and "Coco" nicknames, and Hudson's mention of "Lassie" completes the set. But it also fits his familiar Scottish brogue (he called Demona, Elisa, and Angela all "lass" in the course of the series), so if you don't know about the comedy development, that line looks like Hudson's regular speech patterns, and you don't suspect that you're missing something. That's the way to do in-jokes; give them a surface meaning that looks natural to a casual reader, with an additional level that you only notice if you know more about the background, but won't notice or be confused by if you don't know the behind-the-scenes facts.

Todd Jensen
