"Oh, trust me, I went to their booth at New York Comic Con. They are very aware that we exist..."

Well, doesn't THAT put a HMMMMMM into your mind...

Battle Beast - [Canada]
I have started a movie challenge whereby I am wtching all 475 Best Picture nominees and winners in 365 days. I am on Day #243 movie #280. Wish me luck!

Forgot to include a review that mentions the commentary: http://comicsworthreading.com/2010/11/11/supermanshazam-the-return-of-black-adam-the-dc-showcase-shorts-collection/

I think this is the first commentary track by Greg since the Gargoyles season 2 DVD. Hopefully WB will treat their Young Justice video releases better than Sony.

The Blu-ray version will be also available via Netflix on December 7, so if you know someone with a Blu-ray player and Netflix you could beg them to put it in their queue.

Landon Thomas - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter Feed]

Missed this from Tuesday: Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam is out now. It's the DC shorts collection that re-releases Greg's Green Arrow short. So you now have the option to buy Green Arrow via Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (full-length movie + Green Arrow) or Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam (a new short + 4 additional, previously released shorts, including Green Arrow). Only the Blu-ray version Superman/Shazam! has Greg's commentary on Green Arrow.

And if all that wasn't confusing enough, apparently Target and Wal-mart are selling Blu-ray versions of Superman/Shazam! that includes a Windows-only digital copy. That's if you find the slipcase version on sale.

So if you want to buy Green Arrow, the Superman/Shazam! Blu-ray version is the best, if you have a player for it.

Biological Relationships> You could argue that Greg has placed so many relatives of Wyvern Clan members in the series and comics because the Clan and its splinter groups (Wyvern Spliner Clan/Wyvern Cell, Avalon Clan, Manhattan Clan) are not made of infinite members. We've seen enough biologically distinct individuals from this one genetic group that any new gargoyles we meet are likely to be related to at least one of the previously established members. This is esspecially apparent with the beasts because their numbers are even more limited. Any two beasts represented in Demona's Clan with a background in the Wyvern Clan are highly likely to be closely related (parents or siblings) to Bronx or Boudicca.

As for Kermit and Lexington, I too think they are related. Maybe not biological brothers, but perhaps cousins. I once drew up a Wyvern Clan family tree that had every gargoyle from the Wyvern Clan or descended from the Wyvern Clan on it. Obviously, to connect everyone there were lots of unknown members, but I'm sure if you go back a few hundred years from the Wyvern Massacre every gargoyle in the Clan is related to some degree.

Matt - [St Louis, Missouri, USA]
"But what do you call each other?" "'Friend...'" - Tom and Brooklyn, "Awakening, Part One"

Jurgan> Bronx's biological parents don't have names within the story, but Greg gave them and the other gargoyles we see in Brooklyn's first Timedancing adventure script names to make them easier to distinguish in the script and avoid writing things like "male red gargoyle beast" repeatedly. To review, Chomp is the red beast - Bronx's biological father. Chaw is the blue beast, Bronx's biological mother. Demona's second in command is called "Second" and his mate is called "Sacrifice." The young green gargoyle is "Kermit." Hudson's biological daughter is "True," a name that's been attached to her out-of-universe for a while. The gargoyle who resembles Brooklyn is called "Brooksbro" and the red gargoyle who Brooklyn actually calls "bro" is "Schnozz." Greg revealed these names when we were writing up articles for the characters on GargWiki.

Biological Parentage> I agree that "quit thinking like a human" is losing validity. Sure, it's not helpful to expect the gargoyles themselves to acknowledge these relationships. But we are humans and I don't think even Greg Weisman totally expects us to lay our interest in biological relationships aside. If he did, why would he bother putting so many relatives of the Manhattan Clan among the survivors of the Wyvern Splinter Clan? Clearly we're meant to at least recognize that Chomp and Chaw are Bron's biological parents and get a kick out of it, even if none of the characters in the comic care about this fact. (Speaking of which, is anoyone else wondering whether Kermit might be related to Lexingon?)

Demonskrye - [<---"Ice Age" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

And, I've gotta call Greg W. on one of his latest answers about Spider-Man:
"Stan and Steve kept Pete a high school senior for a LONG time. Years. Since we wanted to play the passage of time as an element in the series, but still wanted the opportunity to tell many of those stories (and more) while Pete was still in high school, we started him as a junior to give us some breathing room. "

Sorry, but this isn't true. In the first Spider-Man stories, Peter was a sophomore. He graduated in issue 31, about three years later. The stories were real time back then. The weird "time compression" didn't start until he was in college. I don't think I'll submit this to Greg, as it sounds like I'm playing "gotcha," but I had to say something.

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Greg has already revealed some of the names of gargoyles on Avalon, back in 2000 and 2001: Raphael, Michael, Uriel, Azrael - standard angel names. Links: http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=2466 and http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=2559

Also, Greg, when the guy specifically asks about BIOLOGICAL parents, giving a list of ROOKERY parents and telling them to stop thinking like a human isn't helpful. Quit thinking like a gargoyle! ;)

Supermorff

HoE> Actually, that question is okay. Asking if Demona tried to assassinate Hitler is not okay.
Greg Bishansky

<[BOLD]Hello again, Mr. Weisman. I'm sorry to be persistent with this, but I must know. What did Demona do during WWII? I have a few other questions as well.[/BOLD]>

The sad thing is, that's a textbook example used under the guidelines for questions not to ask.

Thanks for the comments, Jurgan. I especially agree with you on Demona.

So, I wrote this up for GargWiki, and was wondering if you'd like to edit it a bit.

http://gargoyles.dracandros.com/Demona_and_Macbeth's_Link

Greg Bishansky

"Why is it that Seline, Phoebe, and Luna appear to Macbeth and Demona in different forms? And why are they old when they do such? Why not just show them their true form?

Why not? Demona is certainly more willing to listen to three gargoyles than three witches, or Children of Oberon, don't you think? Their chosen forms suited their purposes."

I'm not sure they have a "true form" as such. They most often appear as twenty-ish year old women, but that's just because they've gotten used to it, not because it's their actual real appearance.

"[BOLD]*This next question has to do with stone sleep. If a Gargoyle turns to stone in mid-air, and they fall into a river, how is it that parts never break off from the impact?[/BOLD]

Who says they don't? We've never seen a stone gargoyle fall into a river."

I think he may be thinking of a scene in TGC- I think it was in "A Bronx Tail," the episode with the Amish kid, Lex is on a train, turns to stone, gets thrown off of it, and lands on a frozen river, crashing through the ice. Realistically, that probably would have shattered him. I guess you're right, though, to say that we've never canonically seen this happen.

"Chomp, Chaw, and Bronx"

When did we ever hear this? Chomp and Chaw? I know they wouldn't have actually had those names, but I don't remember Greg ever giving that much.

"This has been answered before, and is in the archives. In the end, Demona trusted the Captain with everyone's lives but her own."

I'm not sure it was trust, so much as that she was a coward and was afraid of how others might react to it. It's funny, because Othello was something of a moral coward too (see his apathy in High Noon, or his willingness to permanently possess Broadway in Possession), and he probably would have left with her. On the other hand, Desdemona might have insisted they tell the others, and that could have wrecked the whole plan.

In other news, I just finally started reading the Darkwing Duck comic. I've got issues 4 and 5, no others, and it's terrific. DW was always my favorite Disney Afternoon show (aside from Gargoyles, which is on a whole other plane from the rest of the DA). The comic is such a perfect adaptation that I can hear every voice effortlessly. Also, there were a number of clever crossovers with Ducktales. I was happy about that, as I always wondered just how much connection there was between the two shows (Scrooge McDuck got a great line about how the government declared the villain's company "too big to fail-" I love those adult jokes slipped in). Now if only we get... well, you know where I'm going with this.

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Two corrections: One, Chomp and Chaw were not living at Castle Wyvern at the time of the Wyvern Massacre, they had already left sometime in the previous six years with the rest of the splinter clan. And two, current canon-in-training shows that the whole clan is seen as the parents of the eggs, not just those who biologically parented them. So, Ophelia's living parents from a gargoyle perspective are all the survivors of the Wyvern Massacre, as well as Katharine and Tom. We have not met Ophelia's biological parents, but they are almost certainly dead. Either in the Wyvern Massacre or sometime within a decade before or after it.
Matt - [St Louis, Missouri, USA]
"But what do you call each other?" "'Friend...'" - Tom and Brooklyn, "Awakening, Part One"

Someone just posted this laundry list of questions in Ask Greg. I believe there are rule breakers in here. If nothing else, multiple questions on separate topics need to be a separate post.

But, if he or she decides to check here, I will post responses to all of these.

[BOLD]Hello again, Mr. Weisman. I'm sorry to be persistent with this, but I must know. What did Demona do during WWII? I have a few other questions as well.[/BOLD]

I think it's safe to say that Greg is not going to reveal this outside of an actual comic book.

[BOLD]*What is Demona and Macbeth's relationship? Why is it that in some instances they are working together, and then the next time you turn around, they are at each other's throats?[/BOLD]

They have not worked together at all since 1057 A.D.. But, if you're talking about "High Noon" and "Avalon" keep in mind that they were under the Weird Sisters' control at the time.

[BOLD]*What are some of the names of the Gargoyles on Avalon? Do you have any plans for any of them?[/BOLD]

He has plans for everyone. But don't expect him to reveal any names until we meet them in an actual story.

[BOLD]*Why is it that Seline, Phoebe, and Luna appear to Macbeth and Demona in different forms? And why are they old when they do such? Why not just show them their true form?[/BOLD]

Why not? Demona is certainly more willing to listen to three gargoyles than three witches, or Children of Oberon, don't you think? Their chosen forms suited their purposes.

[BOLD]*I have never seen the female armadillo that was a mutant. Why did she kill herself and not just accept the change like the others did and move on? And how did she kill herself.[/BOLD]

Why does anyone kill themselves? Not everyone is strong enough to accept such a traumatic experience.

As for how, didn't you notice the clothing wrapped around her waist before she hung herself?

[BOLD]*This next question has to do with stone sleep. If a Gargoyle turns to stone in mid-air, and they fall into a river, how is it that parts never break off from the impact?[/BOLD]

Who says they don't? We've never seen a stone gargoyle fall into a river.

[BOLD]*Did Demona ever have any other companions with her after AD 1100? Say, in the 18-20th Century before she met Xanatos? Meaning other Gargoyles?[/BOLD]

I think Greg's answer is going to be a: No Comment.

[BOLD]*What are the names of the other two Gargoyle Beasts on Avalon? I am assuming that, like Boudicca, they would be named after some ruler.[/BOLD]

Again, I think we'll more likely find out when we get a chance to meet them in a story.

[BOLD]*Were there any other Gargoyle Beasts at Castle Wyvern at the time of the Massacre? To my understanding, the only three were Chomp, Chaw, and Bronx. Am I right, or wrong?[/BOLD]

He's answered this before, I think there were.

[BOLD]*This next one has to do with Othello and Desdemona. In City of Stone part 1, Demona is seen approaching them as the sun is about to rise. She starts to warn them. Why does she not, and allow their fate to be up to the Vikings?[/BOLD]

This has been answered before, and is in the archives. In the end, Demona trusted the Captain with everyone's lives but her own. She's fucked up.

[BOLD]*In the episode where Coldstone is being examined by Lexington when he is not awake, why do Othello, Desdemona, and Iago's names appear in data banks? Is this an error?[/BOLD]

It's an in-joke thrown in by the animators.

[BOLD]*Why is it that Goliath decides against taking the rest of the Gargoyles with them, despite the Captain of the Guard and Demona's warnings?[/BOLD]

As he said in the actual episode: "Too dangerous, I don't want to leave the castle unprotected."

[BOLD]*Who are Ophelia's biological parents? I have not seen any Gargooyles that resemble her. Where they killed in the Massacre?[/BOLD]

Ophelia's parents are Goliath, Demona, Coldstone, Coldfire, and Coldsteel.

Quit thinking like a human. ;)

[BOLD]*Why did you decide that only 6 (7 including Demona) Gargoyles would survive the Massacre? How did you arrive at this number?[/BOLD]

I think he arrived at the actual characters rather than a number.

[BOLD]*Why does Fox have that blue mark around her right eye?[/BOLD]

It's a tattoo.

[BOLD]*What was the process that Jackal and Hyena went through to become how they are? Was it painful?[/BOLD]

The process? They drank magic fairy juice. Just kidding.

We will finally see some new stories of the Gargoyles. A fourth season, naturally in comic books. I hope to see vampires against the gargoyles. And a lot of characters.

Guys, I know I can be too annoiyng, but i want know if someone of you knows the story of John Patterson and the man eatars of Tsavo.

It was 1898 the military engineer Patterson is in charge to do to build a brigde on tsavo River in 5 months. But, after began the building, suddenly two male lions attack the humans who are there.
Patterson for 9 months had a lot to do with those animals; building had no chance to closen; Patterson had some opportunities to see those lions in there eyes, and he had seen somrthing of supernatural.
The natives who had worked building the bridge, had thought the lions were in fact(in reality) two evil spirits, who were not agree for the build of the brigde. The lions had prayed the humans of that place in a way very, very systematic, and none of the traps had success agaisnt the ferocity of those lions.
After 9 months, Patterson finally had killed those beasts; before their death, they had killed death 135 people.

So, what do you think about that?

Thanks guys. I'm feeling more optimistic about it now.
Phil - [p1anderson at yahoo dot com]

PHIL> Yeah, what Todd said. Greg wrote "Gargoyles" at the same time he was neck deep in post-production on season one of Spidey and pre-production on season two. He can handle writing a "Gargoyles" comic.

MATT> Oh, trust me, I went to their booth at New York Comic Con. They are very aware that we exist.

If BOOM knows this fandom exists (and I think it is clear that they do), then I think they'd have to know that Greg's involvement is a huge part of this fandom.

Let's just wait and see what happens.

Greg was working on "The Spectacular Spider-Man" while writing the "Gargoyles" comic, so that might not be a problem.

That's a cool Goliath cameo, and I'm hopeful for good news from Boom! but I'm also a little nervous. Maybe I'm greedy, but I don't just want a Gargoyles comic, I want a Greg Weisman Gargoyles comic. I've read enough fanfics to know that even the really good stuff is not as good as Greg's. And with Young Justice in the heat of production, would Greg have the time to write it if they asked him?

I'm trying to be optimistic, but I can't help but worry.

Darkwing Duck: I read the first issue when it had its second printing, and just yesterday I bought the Trade Paperback and Issue #5 to catch up . . . knowing this little Easter Egg is in Issue #6 now, I can't wait for the next issue :D

Without spoiling too much to others thinking about this series, I will say that I have fond memories of Darkwing Duck as a kid, but having yet to buy the DVDs or make an effort to watch reruns on TV (or even YouTube), my knowledge of the show is pretty basic and the details get vague for me [SPOILER] (totally forgot about SHUSH for one, or even that GizmoDuck made appearances in the show) [/SPOILER] . . . that said, I feel the five issues I've now read are quite fun in their own right and aren't necessarily JUST the nostalgia kicking in (of course, I won't rule it out, but I hope I've established that I'm as not as versed in the show as others might be).

My memories of Chip & Dales are perhaps more fine tuned (both shows theme songs are still easily recited, haha) and I know I'll be checking that new series when it debuts too :)

Masterdramon> Bonkers has fans? I kid of course, but Seriously DW, Chip N' Dale's RR and of course Gargoyles have fairly active fanbases, but I didn't think Bonkers did. (Don't mention that show in a CNDRR chat room, they absolutely hate it) I figured the sign was a reference to the frequent crossovers between DW and Bonkers. Plus Bonkers didn't actually appear, whereas Goliath (sort of--okay considering the nature of the Gargoyles and DW universes it's obviously not Goliath...then again, I would have thought the same thing about Gadget so...who knows) did appear. Or it could just be a nifty cameo for us gargs-fans who read DW. We've known for a while that BOOM! was aware of us, perhaps this is merely an acknowledgement of our presence. But I'd like to think that this is foreshadowing of something more considering A) the Twitter Demona to BOOM! comics (and the fact that something similar appears to have happened with the Chip N' Dale fandom as well) and B) Gadget's appearance in #3 and the announcement shortly afterwards of the CNDRR comic.
Chip - [Sir_Griff723 at yahoo dot com]
Cheese, it's as good an answer as any.

Great find, Sir Griff! The Goliath cameo is awesome. It's not quite the same as the Gadget cameo since Goliath could just be a statue, but let's cross our fingers.

Of course, even if it is just a statue, it'd be hilarious if every gargoyle in St. Canard resembles a character from Gargoyles.

On November 11th, 1981, at 11:00 AM, the guns fell silent ending the most bloody battle the world had ever seen.

Tomorrow is a very important day for many people the world over... in my family, I lost a great Great Grandfather in World War One, and my Grandfather was bombadier in World War Two (this is why the Episode M.I.A. is so important to me) and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross (for saving his plane and crew in as well as four other medals.

I think well all know someone who was in a war, be it WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf, Afghanistan or Iraq... or just as a mamber of the Armed forces. It doesn't matter if you come from France, Brittain, America, Canada, Australia...

here is a poem we Canadians like to read and remember on Rememberance day. Please read it and remember the sacrifices our loved ones went through and go through so we may ramble on and on about old tv shows!

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Matt> That'sa good point, but I still think there would have to be something in the design that would keep a bull-like gargoyle from looking too much like a minotaur with wings. There are enough difference between Leo and an actual lion or a hypothetical pegasus-like gargoyle and the pegasus seen in "The Gathering" to instantly differentiate them. But if bull gargoyles look pretty much like Taurus with wings, there's going to be more confusion.
Demonskrye - [<---"Ice Age" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

I agree that pegasus-like gargoyles are a no-brainer.

But your argument for no bull-like gargoyles is in conflict with that fact. We saw a pegasus-like Third Race member attending the Gathering. So, by your logic we won't see pegasus-like gargoyles because we've already seen a pegasus in the series. Just because we've seen Taurus and other minotaurs in the series doesn't mean we won't see bull-like gargoyles. Similiarly, according to Greg, the Xanadu gargoyles resemble dragons, but dragons may exist in other forms as well in the Gargoyles Universe.

Matt - [St Louis, Missouri, USA]
"But what do you call each other?" "'Friend...'" - Tom and Brooklyn, "Awakening, Part One"

I think straight up pegasus gargoyles is almost a no brainer. Seems like a reasonable assumption that there are some horselike gargoyles that don't have horns.

Gargoyles with more aquiline features throughout are also a possibility. If Pog is kind of a hippogriff and Griff is a griffin, it seems likely that they're both descendants of gargoyle who looked like eagles or other birds of prey on one side of the family, with hoofed mammal gargoyles filling out the other side of Pog's biological ancestors and lion-like gargoyes fiing out Griff's ancestry.

I'm not sure about buls, only because they might end up looking to similar to minotaurs, which already exist in the Gargoyles universe.

Demonskrye - [<---"Ice Age" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

I've speculated that there may be some English gargoyles which resemble goats or bulls or bears. Certainly none of these are a stretch from what we know exists.
Matt - [St Louis, Missouri, USA]
"But what do you call each other?" "'Friend...'" - Tom and Brooklyn, "Awakening, Part One"

This is why people shouldn't start rumors - or pass them on (unless, in the latter case, they're only doing so to ask if such-and-such-a-thing is true).

I was reading Tennyson's "The Holy Grail" from his "Idylls of the King" today, and noticed that in his description of Camelot, he speaks of numerous statues there of "wyvern, lion, dragon, griffin, swan" - and later, "unicorns... basilisks... cockatrices... talbots [dogs]". I wondered while reading that section whether, in the Gargoyles Universe, some of those statues might have been more than statues, especially the lions, unicorns, and griffons. (Of course, we haven't seen any gargoyles, whether in the London clan or elsewhere, who look like dragons and wyverns - though the latter term certainly should be significant in light of Scottish gargoyle history - swans - though most of the London gargoyles *do* have feathered wings - basilisks, or - unless you count the gargoyle beasts - dogs. But we haven't seen all the possible gargoyle templates yet - and some might have been wiped out in the time between Arthur's reign and today.)

A search for "Stone Disney movie" has turned up nothing (beyond several links about The Sword in the Stone. I'm guessing this is rumor at best, at least until we have a credible source.

K7OP> Where'd you hear this? The internet is filled with rumours, speculation, assumptions and outright lies. Best not to believe anything unless it comes from a credible source.

Make a REAL "Gargoyles" movie, Disney!

Ehi guys, i've recently heard some little new about that movie about the new gargoyles, it will call "Stone".
That is very terrible in my opinion; Disney has already a good tv series (our Gargoyles) where they can take some base to do a good movie about gargoyles.
Besides if will be a real (and good) gargoyles movie, there will be hope that a lot of people can be interest to our gargoyles. They buy more DVDs and comic books, so a reason to release other DVDs and comic books and then release them in other countries (that I really hope).
Yuo know something? I really hope that movie "stone" will be very, very, very, very unsuccesful; and so then, maybe Disney will decide to do a REAL GARGOYLES MOVIE.
