Chip & The Geek> Greg Weisman productions sure do reward repeat viewings or readings, don't they?
Richard Jackson

Chip> I had not even caught that reference but that does seem very likely!

Hey, I've got a couple of Young Justice related questions:

1. Does anyone know if Blockbuster has any actual connection to Cadmus in the mainstream DCU? Or was that just for the show?
2. What about Mammoth? Does he have any actual connection to the Cult of Kobra in mainstream DC?

Just curious

TheGeek> Actually
Based on what we've seen in issue #7 of the canon Young Justice Comics, with an extra empty bed in Artemis's room and Artemis's Mother's comments about loosing one daughter, I'm more inclined to think that Cheshire is Artemis's SISTER rather than her aunt.
"An explanation of cause is not a justification by reason." C. S. Lewis

I was just watching Young Justice Infiltrator again (it's the one currently on cartoonnetwork.com this week). And just had some random thoughts (it's all kind of spoilerish so i am using spoiler tags in case anyone didn't see the episode yet)
Cheshire and Artemis' mother are the same voice actress -- i think. I know Artemis' father's relationship to the situation both given comic lore as well as a couple references). But it got me wondering if Cheshire is Artemis' aunt given the shared voice actress. Or is there some other connection I'm not picking up on?
And #2
at the tag of the episode, the Light makes a reference to having someone on the inside. Making it one of the team itself seems too obvious. i'm wondering if one of the souvenirs that Kid Flash picked up is transmitting info... like the robotic eye, or Cheshire's mask.
Anyway, these are kind of rhetoric questions as I am just thinking out loud... but i'd be interested in any other theories if anyone felt like kicking some around...

I posted a "Greg Weisman" Formspring response from Jareth the Goblin King about five months ago, but I recently realized that I had neglected to also ask the question of the other "Labyrinth"-based player...

Just a reminder for Canadian Viewers: Young Justice finally begins airing on Teletoon tonight at 7pm. It's also on Saturday nights(Sunday Mornings) at Midnight.

Oh, don't get me wrong; I do like Johnny Rivers (although I'll tend to like almost all popular music produced before 1980), but when it comes between him and John Fogerty...

Yeah, I gotta go with Fogerty. CCR's version of "Midnight Special," if you're curious:

I LOVE his music, and his version of "Midnight Special" is, IMHO, the ONLY version. (I didn't even know CCR did a version.)

Donald: The AskGreg question-asking feature will reopen on September 16, the day that the next episode of "Young Justice" airs in the US. You can try submitting an invite to him then, though I can't say if you'd get much success. Greg W. was quite fond of "Kim Possible" back in the day, though.

As for the rest, I'll let any available Gathering alums field that.

Hi everyone. My name is Donald Speirs, and I'm the chairman of Kimvention 2012, the Kim Possible Fan Convention, scheduled for June 9-10, 2012 in LA.

Now, before you start throwing things at me as an interloper, please know I greatly admire the Gargoyles community - you folks blazed the trail that I'm trying to follow with our new event. Which is, in fact, why I'm here.

First, I'm hoping some of the people who used to be involved with running the Gatherings are tuned in here. I'd like to get the chance to talk to a couple of them about the logistics side of the event, to be sure I'm dotting all i's and crossing all t's, so to speak. If you are one of those people, or know where I may contact them, please send me a note letting me know the best way to contact you privately.

Secondly, part of the event is reaching out to everyone who worked on the show - and _the_ Greg was a writer on Kim Possible. I'm hoping to contact him, but so far everyone keeps referring me to the "Ask Greg" section of the website, which is closed. If you can suggest a different way, please contact me privately as well.

As for everyone else, I hope you'll come visit our Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/Kimvention2012) and support our event as well.

I know this was out of your normal realm of conversation, and I appreciate you taking a moment to indulge me. Thanks for your time, and have a good day.

Sincerely,
Donald Speirs
Chairman, Kimvention 2012

TheGeek: "Targets" was accidentally leaked on CartoonNetwork.com for about a day or so, which was of course more than enough time for every torrent maker on the planet to grab it and plaster it all over the 'net. It was also premiered at Comic Con 2011.

But this is the first time it's actually being shown on television. So yes, strictly speaking, it is a "new episode."

Masterdramon - [kmc12009@mymail.pomona.edu]
"Let the midnight special shine the light on me..." - John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival

I feel silly for asking this.. but they keep advertising Young Justice "Targets" as a premire/new... but, I would swear I saw this episode somewhere (pretty sure it was on cartoonnetwork.com since that is where i watch youngjustice).
Am I just imagining it and some how glimpsed the future?

TheGeek

Spen: To a degree, yes. It's actually a traditional Southern folk song, but of the various "popular" covers I've heard of it, CCR's is by far my favorite (I also happen to think they recorded the most superior versions of "I Put a Spell on You" and possibly "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," but I don't think I'll be using them since I feel like switching sig-bands in a week or two, probably to Queen, Zeppelin, or Hendrix).
Masterdramon - [kmc12009@mymail.pomona.edu]
"Let the midnight special shine the light on me..." - John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival

Masterdramon: So you think of "Midnight Special" as being a CCR song? Huh. I've never really associated it with them. I usually think of Johnny Rivers' version. (Though Paul Evans actually had the biggest hit. Which is kinda funny, since his version is nearly impossible to find anymore.)

I wonder if Disney (assuming the executives remember the animated series) might have decided that coming up with an entirely new "Gargoyles" franchise was simpler than reviving an old one and having to bring the audience up to date on the events from "Awakening" to "Hunter's Moon" (or beyond) - a problem which was brought up here with the comic book.

Though it's equally possible that they simply forgot the television series.

Todd Jensen - [merlyn1@mindspring.com]

The "best case scenario" is for this film to enter Development Hell and never, ever leave.

The second-best is for the film to change its title. A second Disney franchise containing winged protectors of the modern world who turn to stone every night is...problematic. A second Disney franchise called "Gargoyles" (regardless of how much or how little it resembles our proprty) is fatal.

Masterdramon - [kmc12009@mymail.pomona.edu]

I think a lot of you are naive as to what the actual impact of this movie upon our franchise will actually be if it gets made.

Greg Bishansky - [<--- Greg's Blog of Clue-by-Fours]
Elisa Maza, why don't you just take that "sodie pop" can and stick the straw right into New York's eye!

I remember that when Hunchback of Notre Dame came out, I was bit annoyed they used gargoyles as supporting characters, something that was even addressed in a Disney Adventures story where our boys commented as much.

An ideal outcome I would want if this Gargoyle movie came out is that it would bomb, but not only that, relatives of small children would accidentally buy the the TV series off Amazon confusing it with the film. That would be the best of all worlds for me.

Richard Jackson

I must say I'm a bit scared about this movie. I fear it will be crap, I mean, what else should it be if it is about gargoyles and not "Gargoyles"? Maybe the gargoyles there are just living statues or such. I'm sensitive about that part. Also I like the story of "Gargoyles" as it is and for me it's the only truth. That may sound fanatic, but okay, so I am fanatic. And I'm proud of it.

Also if this movie is coming out the chance is higher that people will forget the true "Gargoyles" than the opposite. But of course there's still a chance that some fans of the movie will find out the truth.

Comet
I'm shipping off...to find my wooden leg!

Captian Jay: Sorry about the capitialization thing, it's something of a knee-jerk reaction with me, emphasis on jerk.

Rebel: The best outcome I can see is if the "movie" stays in development hell for all eternity, and eventually gets forgotten. I for one will most certainly not watch it if it does come out.

Spen
"Some folks think that I'm egotistical. Well, I don't even know what that means. I guess it has somthing to do with the way that I fill out my skin-tight blue jeans." - Mac Davis "It's Hard To Be Humble"

If the new fake Gargoyles movie ends up getting made, I will watch it (out of sheer curiosity), but I most certainly will not PAY to watch it. I won't give Disney even one dollar to support that film.

Having said that, I don't know if not supporting it financially it is going to help. I think it's a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't situation. If it is financially successful, that is bad because it gives Disney a reason to believe that they should start pouring money into a different gargoyles property and ignore our Gargoyles. But if it's a financial failure, Disney will probably think that gargoyles in general aren't profitable. So even if it flops, that flop probably won't help our Gargoyles any at all.

What sort of outcome is enough to make them realize, "Damn we were so stupid and we have lost all this money; why didn't we just make a film about the Gargoyles cartoon from the 90s?"

Rebel

I am with Matt, I dont think Jay is a troll.

As for the comic link, I have no idea what was going on in there but I would like to see where things go.

The movie question, I would see it. Maybe a couple of times. but NOT in theaters. I would most likely wait for netflix to pick it up. I do this with all movies. Very rarely will I see an actual movie in theater.I do hope this fake movie generates interest and nostaglia for Gargoyles.

In the spirit of Fandom Secrets, I chose to wait until vol 2 was release. Partly because I was snooty, partly because of the money. I learned my lesson. I bought all the issues and the graphic novels. I would also buy TGC if they were ever released to show support. I would watrch them too, but in a cheesy monster movie of the week kind of way. hah.

As for why I stick with the fandom. Garogyles was an amazing show when I was a kid. Very few things still shine 20 years later. (I know it hasnt been 20 years, its just an example.) Gargoyles does.

There are movies and shows you see as a kid and think "This is amazing!" and 20 years later you think "This is crap, why did I like this?" Or it becomes a guilty pleasure, something you are mildly embarrassed to share. Gargoyles is neither of those. I still watch the series. I share the series. I will lend my dvd's out to friends and family for their kids to watch. This is a show that I am glad to have in my personal history and THAT is why I choose to keep it in my present.

Lurker

Perhaps you guys will no longer think of me as a troll if I offer up conversation (though I really was genuinely curious as to the loyalty of the fandom). I came across this secret in Fandom!Secrets on LJ this evening. Gargoyle secrets on F!S are few and far between so I always perk up when I see one.

http://fandomsecrets.livejournal.com/753360.html
It's #20, with the screencap of Goliath you can't miss it.

Thoughts on the what the Secret Poster has to say?

While I certainly don't blame Goliath for the destruction of his clan, he was a bit passive in the relationship between gargoyles and humans. When the peasants in the castle attacked the trio for no reason and they reacted, he blamed the trio for it. When the princess called him and Demona beasts for stepping into the castle, he just pulled Demona back and left.

Of course, neither of those times would have been appropriate to start a fight for gargoyle rights but why couldn't Goliath have pushed just a little harder for the princess and the rest of the court to see them as sentient creatures. Sure, he couldn't have forced them to listen to him or to like his kind, but he could have at least gotten a place for him and Demona, his second, in the court (much like what Demona later did with Macbeth).

Captain Jay

Battle Beast > I was not trying to demand that the remaining fans of Gargoyles up and leave the fandom. I was merely wondering and marveling at the loyalty of the fans.

Wingless > Yes I did pick up the comics of a few years ago. I really liked the continuation of the Gargoyles story, though I thought Bad Guys was a bit dull (to be fair, it was always my least favorite out of all the proposed spin offs).

Captain Jay

SUPERMORFF - Thanks for the link. I used to read "Erfworld", but drifted away from it a few years ago.

I hadn't expected the hommage to be
the Weird Sisters; I'd somehow expected the shout-out to be the gargoyles themselves. But the Weird Sisters probably fitted it better.
Todd Jensen - [merlyn1@mindspring.com]

Are the Children of Oberon immortal?

Was Xanatos really worried that Demona would steal a minute of Puck's life in "City of Stone", or did he suspect that Demona had been lying about the spell? Or did he have some other reason to warn Puck/Owen not to watch and listen to the spell?

Paul - [nampahcfluap@yahoo.com]

Captain Jay: I'm curious-the lack of new material. Did you pick up the Slave Labour Graphic comics from a few years ago? That continued the story. I'd like to know if you did, and if you did what you thought.

Antiyonder
Quote "Well, some fans deliberately chose not to buy the Season 2 Volume 1 unless Disney would release Season 2 Volume 2. So I don't think the company is the only one guilty of being stubborn (as their decision not to support the DVD contributed to Disney's decision not to release the remainder of the season)."

I know we once had a number for the sales number for season 1 and season 2 vol 1, but I'd like to have an update. I can't help but look at some of the stuff that's coming out and wonder where the audience is. I mean, some of the Filmation titles are being reissued for a SECOND TIME. Can you honestly tell me that the old Lone Ranger & Zorro series from the 1970s merit a second reissue when Gargoyles hasn't even seen a complete issue once? What about Aladdin, Little Mermaid, House of Mouse, The rest of the Tale Spin & Darkwing Duck eps? It's mindblowing that Disney hasn't even begun to start issuing their TV animation series on DVD, yet they flog their tacky live action shows! The titles they did put out they didn't even bother to remaster-they're straight from video tape prints. It's truly sad that a company with such a legacy would ignore it and downplay it so badly. Shout Factory knows how to do a set up right-with great bonus material and packaging. Disney, If it wasn't for Greg Wiesman, The Gargoyles wouldn't have the little bonus material they have. You have remaster the material, you have to have bonus material and you have to MARKET it. Disney lacks in all 3 counts.
What can we do? Continue the letter writing and my suggestion about voting for Gargoyles at tvshowsondvd.com for Gargoyles being released on DVD would also help. Get the show into the top 10 most wanted shows on DVD. Things like that will get noticed.

Wingless

Patrick> Touche`.

"Gargoyles" Movie> I will see it. Probably Only ONCE. I am curious to see how good (or bad) it will be. I kNOW it won't be OUR Gargoyles, but if releasing it brings back a nostalgia for our beloved series, and helps promote the comics and/or the DVDs, maybe, just maybe, the rest of the series could be released.

Same goes for "TGC". It may not be cannon, and it IS crap, but if it helps out our cause, yah, i'll buy it. Not saying i'd ever watch it, though. (Well maybe once through, I haven't seen all the episodes in over a decade.)

Cap'n J> He's not a troll, NO. But I don't like his opinion AT ALL.

I just wonder why, if he's hase moved on from Gargoyles, that he feels it his duty to go around telling EVERY OTHER FAN to move on as well... like, what do you care if we support our show? no one is forcing you to support it...

...oh.

Harlan Phoenix

And thanks to those who shared their opinions on sticking with a fandom that's been running low on steam. I'm glad that Gargoyles still holds the attention of so many fans. To me, it was a show from my childhood years ago that's fun to revisit every once in a while, getting more and more infrequent as time passes.

If new material ever comes to be, I'll be one of the first to come running back. I'll also be exteremly critical of the Gargoyles movie that has nothing to do with this nostalgic show.

So see? Not a troll or a hater; more of a retired fan or lover of Gargoyles.

Captain Jay

Matt, thank you very much. I appreciate the vote of confidence.

Masterdramon, seriously why did the lack of capital letters get under your skin so? I've had plenty of conversations with people on the Net who lack proper sentence structure, grammar, or punctuation. Would you rather I had been a troll who did properly capitalize? Either way, here are words with capital letters in them, just for your enjoyment :P

Captain Jay

D. Taina: Somehow, I'm guessing that it's not a coincidence. All the same, a hilarious answer. XD

Talon: He's working with Sevarius!! ARE YOU HELPING HIM?

And as long as I'm here, a response from the newest member of the SpecSpidey Formspring "cast"...

Roderick Kingsley: I have no opinion on Weisman. Edmund Tsabard, on the other hand, designed a cologne for us that he promised would be a true aphrodisiac. He was right, but it was so effective that the F.D.A. refused to approve of it.

Tsabard was fired, and the cologne is only available in Thailand now.

Greg B.: Oh, I'm well-aware, LOL. I follow both your blog and your YouTube channel, and I believe I even commented on the "Betty vs. Sally" video. But adding that she is a Horrible Person (in capitals) in a parenthetical is something I stole specifically from your blog's master Formspring post, so I was just acknowledging credit.

D. Taina: I've submitted the question to the Derek player on three separate occasions (most recently about three weeks ago), so I don't think that's it.

Matt: For the most part I agree with you, though I would qualify that the fact that we've had to deal with a defeatist post like this twice in the space of two weeks (though "Old Fan" was quite a bit directly ruder) probably is increasing the sense that someone is trolling us. But no, so far, Captain Jay has shown no signs of being an active troll...though I'll be honest, his insistence on using no capital letters isn't helping matters.

Masterdramon - [kmc12009@mymail.pomona.edu]
"Let the midnight special shine the light on me..." - John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival

I have to disagree with Greg B and Supermorff here... which is weird, since I almost always agree with one or the other or both... But, I don't think Captain J is a troll. He has been respectful and honest. I don't particularly love his doom and gloom mantra, but that does not make him a troll, just someone who has fallen to despair. I've heard similiar statements from regulars in the fandom in this room over the years and we have never resorted to calling them trolls for their feelings and opinions. And he isn't demanding anyone leave the fandom, but only asking why we stay. And that is a good question. I've read a lot of good answers too and I hope he has read those and took them to heart. For my own part, I'm still a participating member of this fandom because it has greatly impacted me and still greatly interests me. Moreover, as some have said, if Greg W has not given up, I won't. When Greg W throws in the towel, I will lose a lot and maybe all hope, but he hasn't and neither have I. I think Greg W is a wonderful writer and I generally enjoy his work, but I don't automatically enjoy all of it. For instance, while I love Gargoyles and Spectacular Spider-Man, I'm not a fan of Young Justice. This is probably largely because the DC world has never appealed to me much moreso than the writing, but the fact remains: I'm not a fan of all of Greg's work. And I'll admit that there have been many times over the years that I wished this site and room would keep a focus on Gargoyles. But it isn't my site and Greg is clearly alright with non-Gargoyles stuff being discussed here, so I can either live with it or leave. I like this site and the off topic stuff (as I see it) doesn't bother me enough to quit the site, so I come here and just ignore all that. And that works.

So, there ya go.

Captain Jay> Don't give up. The franchise is not as dead as you might imagine, though it isn't as alive as we all wish either. But nothing good comes easy.

Greg B and Supermorff> Don't call Captain Jay a troll for having an unpopular opinion. He isn't acting troll-like at all, so I'm not sure why he is being labeled as such. I imagine that you are calling him a troll because he is in the minority, which of course is completely against the spirit of Gargoyles. You guys are better than that. If he starts acting like a troll, I'll be right there with you, but until then, how about allowing someone else to be different? Honestly, it seems to me that people have said much more trollish things to him than he has said to anyone else.

Supermorff: No, most of them are only tangentially related to the "Gargoyles/SpecSpidey" Formspring scene, but if they interact at least once with one of the canon characters then I'll usually give them a shot. So characters like Darkwing Duck, Bob the Skull, Disney's Hades, etc.

Derek's the only canon character on Formspring that hasn't yet responded.

Masterdramon> Maybe all of the players that are ignoring you are played by the same person?
Supermorff

In service to that notion, I'm going to change the subject by submitting a good handful of new "Greg Weisman" Formspring responses...

The Director: I am unfamiliar with him. Edmund Tsabard on the other hand is one of our high-priority targets.

Thailog "Shock Troops": Obey Thailog.

Talon "Commandos": Serve Master.

Flash Thompson: Hmmm... *remembers watching the second season of W.I.T.C.H.* Um, never heard of him.

Betty Brant (who is a Horrible Person): I don't know about Weisman, but Edmund Tsabard came through New York last month and rocked my world.

Ned Lee: I interviewed him about Young Justice once. He kinda reminds me of one of Betty's friends.

Doctor Doom: He helped create "Max Steel" so Doom will...admit that he is a "cool guy."

...BTW, anyone happen to know who the Derek Maza/Talon player is? They've been ignoring my "usual question" for three months now (and I've sent it multiple times just to be sure), and while they're hardly the only player to do so they are by far the most high-profile. In the interests of completeness (since I'll probably be sending a selection of these responses over to the big guy relatively soon), I'd like to know what's up. XP

Oh and to Captian Jay: "but when greg w turned his attention to other projects i figured it was time to jump ship" So what, you're saying that Greg should have devoted his whole life 24/7 to this show to keep your interest? The man's gotta' eat, you know. It's not like he's *stopped* working on Gargoyles. It's called multitasking. Sort of like holding the shift key while typing the first word of a sentence.
Spen

what i meant by that was that, in my lurking days on this site, i saw the shift from gargoyles to the other projects. i'm fine with greg w moving on to other things but the entire fandom shifted with him and i had no interest in his other projects. i was here just for gargoyles and then the other stuff popped up that took people away from gargoyles. that's when i started to leave the fandom.

and do my typing skills offend you that much? it could be worse, i could start chat speaking at you.

captain jay

I don't see any problems in discussing stuff that is "old". If it's Shakespeare or Gargoyles doesn't matter. Good that "old" stuff has fans too or many good stories would be long forgotten. Also there's always something to discuss and to think about and if there's not enough why not making fanfiction, roleplays and such?

And about this f****** movie, I will not watch it and I think most true fans will not.

I'm shipping off...to find my wooden leg!

Why do I bother? Because you never know for sure if it's truly over. I never expected that we'd get the comics in the first place. But we did. I thought the Chronicles of Thomas Covenent were over and done with. But I joined their fandom anyway. And guess what? Twenty-one years afterwards, we got a new book. Followed by more. I've been a fan of Dean Friedman for longer than I'd care to admit. And for a long time it seemed like there was no chance he'd ever have a new album. But I stuck with him, and after and eighteen year hiatus, we managed to convince Real Life records that there was still a market for Dean. And we got a new album. And three more since then.

My all-time favourite book series, the Morland Dynasty is going through a similar crisis right now. After thirty-odd years, the publishers have decided that the series isn't profitable enough to keep going. Does that mean I'm leaving the fandom? Heck no. As long as the author has a story to tell, we're going to keep trying.

It's the same reason why I haven't quit on NASCAR, despite the fact that the orginization is trying to distance themselves from traditional fans like myself. When I give my faith to something, I'm not shaken lightly. If I was, I'd have left this fandom during TGC.

I know I haven't really been a "good fan" here. I never went to a Gathering (for a number of reasons, most of which were solvable, but I ultimatly decided not to go.). I've also never written a fanfic, or drawn anything, or run a website, or heck, even made any meaningful commentary on this site. But at the end of the day, I've been here. I'm a fan. And I will continue to support the show until the day Greg says we should give up.

Let me preface my query with this link. This is in response to Jay and Blank.

http://youtu.be/sGFwLHCTsfk

Now that thats out of the way, this conversation has brought something to mind. This non-Gargoyles gargoyle movie. How many will see it to show support even though it doesnt have anything to do with Gargoyles? I ask this because of what someone else brought up. Every dollar counts. Maybe seeing the money from the non-Gargoyles gargoyle movie will cause disney to turn their gaze upon Gargoyles again. Long shot, I know but its merely a hypothetical. Who will support the movie in hopes that it supports Gargoyles?

Meant to say 2006, with a good portion of it being in 2007.

Captain Jay> i just wanted to know the mentality of sticking with a series that has no future at present.

Again, some fans said the same thing during the early portion of the 2000s decade. Yet we got a comic in 2007. Heck, if the majority of the fandom took the "don't waste time on a dead franchise", then we wouldn't have gotten the comics or even the few DVDs that were released.

Just saying that realism and cynicism don't always go hand in hand.

Antiyonder

Although "Iron Jay", or whatever his handle is, may have gotten the wrong idea, it doesn't mean his opinion is any less valid. I've felt the same way myself, sometimes. Yet I still have a glimmer of hope and keep coming back here, from time to time.

And another thing, what's the big deal about anonymity ayway? I don't see any problems with it.

algernon - i just finished writing a thesis on shakespeare so don't even get me started on that bastard.

and please, did you just compare one of the greatest writers of all time to the creator of a tv show? i love gargoyles and i respect greg w for all that he's done over the years, fighting for gargoyles and what not, but he is not the bard. shakespeare is a classic. people are still talking about frankenstein and dracula and all those stories because they're classics. gargoyles is fun and nostalgic but its not a classic that's going to torture school children for centuries to come.

captain jay

CAPTAIN JAY> There hasn't been a new Shakespeare play in well over 500 years. Doesn't stop fans of his work from still talking about it and enjoying each others' company.

i'm not trying to get anyone else to quit the fandom, i just wanted to know the mentality of sticking with a series that has no future at present.

now if more gargoyles stuff does pop up some day down the road, i'll come running back. but at the moment there's nothing new to keep my interest. and that's not even to say that i don't enjoy watching the old gargoyles now and then. i do. but think of it this way, if you pick up a really old book of your shelves, one you've had for years and have read a hundred times, you don't reread it and then run off to your friends to discuss it because you've all talked the book into the ground already. but when you get a new book, especially a new volume in a series, that's when you all chatter excitedly to each other.

that's how i see gargoyles at the moment. it's a book series that hasn't had any new releases in a long while; when the next volume gets released, then i can get excited about it again.

Captain Jay> The fact that Gargoyles, as well as Ducktales and Darkwing Duck got a continuation should prove that while further continuations are rare, they shouldn't be completely ruled out.

Wingless> Only a stubborn company that doesn't know a good thing when they see it.

Well, some fans deliberately chose not to buy the Season 2 Volume 1 unless Disney would release Season 2 Volume 2. So I don't think the company is the only one guilty of being stubborn (as their decision not to support the DVD contributed to Disney's decision not to release the remainder of the season).

But between the release of the DVDs and Comics at the time I can't help but think that some Gargoyles fans forget that unlike Spider-Man and Batman fans, every dollar really counts when supporting the franchise. I mean heck, some fans chose not to buy the single issues when the trades were announced.

Captain Jay:Since someone else came in about two weeks ago and gave pretty much the exact same spiel, I'm just going to re-post my response...

"If we had all taken that attitude several years back then we wouldn't have gotten the comics in the first place. Yes, they may have ended before their time, but so long as there is no advantage to throwing in the towel at this point don't expect any of us to follow your lead.

Everyone here's in it for the long haul - we have been for a while - and we will get another success. Marvel in particular may not be actively interested in the property at the moment, but executives shuffle in-and-out with every passing year and it's not that big of a stretch to hope that some Garg-friendly ones eventually show up. In short, so long as Greg W. doesn't give up on this property, why should we?

You're free to leave the fandom at any time, sir...and I'm truly sorry you feel this way. But don't expect anyone to follow you out the door."

Captain Jay: I'm 45 years of age, and I'm not done with Gargoyles. Likely never will be. Sadly, a company like Disney can't see the forest for the trees when they have a franchise that's pure gold when they're holding it right in their hands. They need some major convincing. They're a stubborn lot, but I'm not about to give up on something I enjoy. That's how fans get shows released on DVD. They keep plugging until it happens. There are no legal or music licensing issues holding Gargoyles back from being released. Only a stubborn company that doesn't know a good thing when they see it. I'm all for pushing for getting Short Factory to get it re released. We know they'll do it up right.

Captain Jay> I like talking about Gargoyles, I like most of the fans in this Comment Room, I like Greg's non-Garg related projects, I like Ask Greg. I enjoy this fandom and the people in it.

Now if YOU personally, aren't getting anything out of Gargoyles, Ask Greg or this fandom then fine. That's totally cool. Go find something you do love and throw yourself at it. But don't get all up in our faces just because we're having a good time here and you're not.

i guess i was mostly curious as to why you guys are holding on to a dead franchise. after the comics (which i will admit were fun and cool but they died just as quickly as i expected them to) and the movie that has nothing to do with the cartoon, no one is going to want to give gargoyles the time of day anymore.

i once was a big part of the gargoyles fandom. but when greg w turned his attention to other projects (i look around here and keep running into that superhero show he's working on which i have no interest in) i figured it was time to jump ship.

why stick around anymore? whats in it for you guys?

I agree with Algernon. I'm not tired of Gargoyles yet (though I'm itching for some new canon material), but I have nothing against people who have grown tired of it. But if YOU are tired of it, then just leave, don't try to convince the rest of us that we are tired of it too.

The latest episode of Thundercats was okay. I wish they would make more episodes like Song of the Petalars.

They probably think there's no point in staying part of a fandom whose subject isn't likely to be revived.
