Maggie was pretty hot IMHO.

Eek, wrong icon. Funny, though, that I changed it right after Matt's last comment- someone watching might think I was creeped out, but I assure you that's not the case.

Whenever Elisa takes off her jacket and you can see her black shirt tight against her skin... *grins.

My attraction to Jason Canmore was a major factor in my realization that I was gay!

Anybody else have any Gargoyles crush confessions?

It's okay, Taina. I had a crush on Elisa when I was 14. And I know I always thought human Demona was hot. I've debated crushing on Rebel over it.

Comet> *snaps her fingers in a "well, shoot!" sort of way* Well, we can imagine, anyways! ;)

And being in NH, fine on this end. Hope everyone else is fine too.

Comet: I hope you're not feeling your concern was ignored, but I'm not sure how we could check if everyone is okay. However, I don't think any of our residents hail from Colorado, so I doubt any were involved.

COMET - Funny you brought up cryptids. I don't know if the Jersey Devil counts, but I'd read up on it a little this morning, and was wondering how it would fit into the Gargoyles Universe. The description of it suggested a gargoyle, though I'm not sure whether it was ever seen in the daytime (if it was, that would rule out that notion - unless Greg Weisman ignores it). Since I doubt there were any gargoyles left in New Jersey by historical times (we know from the clan list that there aren't any around today), I wonder if it could have been Demona, or possibly a Timedancing Brooklyn (though the Jersey Devil's tendency to prey on humans fits the former much better).

Shaiya> Loch Ness Monsters: I don't think these are able to change their size xD They are just ordinary animals in my opinion, even though they are very special ones.

Hmmm... does Mokele Mbembe (http://www.mokelembembe.com/) exist in the Gargoyles universe? And what about other cryptids? I have a feeling if Mokele Mbembe exists there it is probably really just some kind of Sauropod, just like the Loch Ness Monsters are some kind of Plesiosaur (or at least look like these).

Nicola> Lovely to meet you as well! :)

Comet> I'm a huge fan of manga, but what you like also greatly depends on what kind of anime or manga you happen across- some of the styles are vastly different, and appeal to different people at different times. On the anime end, I always found Princess Mononoke to be terribly sad, but on the manga end I loved, loved titles such as With the Light, Fruits Basket, Pet Shop of Horrors... With a good story, I guess any form of media can be fascinating- to the right audience of course. :)

Re: Nessie: wouldn't it be neat if she could change her size? I know, not exactly as likely an explanation, but if she had a little of her own special Loch Ness magic, it could explain why she's so darn hard to track down in real life. ;)

Rebel> I saw that one! It wasn't nearly as tragic as Princess Mononoke. I liked it a lot more, probably for that same reason.

FTBM2010> I expect you're right about the inconsistency with the size of the loch ness monsters. Still, it's kind of fun to find "other reasons" than what's most likely for simple explanations.

Shaiya

This version of that link someone tried to post to a Megan love post on Tumblr that didn't work for Greg (see the Latest) should work, although it takes a while to load: itswallie.tumblr.com/post/19454440160/can-we-take-a-second-to-talk-about-this-girl-right
B

Well, I think with considering the "defying the laws of physics" liberties the animators took with the gargs "gliding", it's probably safe to say they were taking similar liberties re: the lochness monsters' sizes. ;)
FTBM2010

FTBM2010> The episode shows 4. 2 adults and 2 young (although there may be more). I first thought Nessie was one of the young, but ... she's actually the adult female. But that doesn't change my thought about the size. I didn't find any information about the real size, but I stick at not more than 80 feet for an adult (and Big Daddy is probably a bit bigger than Nessie).
And yes, I think the Loch Ness Clan helps the animals to survive, but if these are really extremely huge the clan must get a lot of food for them, even if they hunt by themselves.... a little fish is not much for such a huge animal, and the fish population in Loch Ness is quite limited. So, I still think they are not as huge as it seems in some scenes.

Comet

@GregXB it occured to me after the fact that this applies to the Capt of the Guard too - so I guess the whole "ghost's have fixed wills" obv. doesn't apply in the garg verse. I was just wondering why GregW made a point of making the distinction, and I'm supposing now what he meant was that the Coldtrio weren't resurrected/brought back to life, so much as their spirits were summoned and then "trapped", effectively.

And between that and all this anime talk, I now have a hankering to watch Ghost in the Shell again this weekend.

@Comet - weren't there 2? Nessie and Big Daddy? Maybe one was a lot bigger?

And since the clan there protects them and the loch, maybe that has something to do why they haven't been noticed/can find food?

FTBM2010

Back to Gargoyles:

Today's featured article on GargWiki brought me to this.
The size of Nessie in "Monsters" seems to vary a lot in that episode. In some scenes she appears to be up to 100 feet long with an enormous head - which I honestly find exaggerated. In other scenes it's about 30 feet; this seems far more appropriate.
What do you think about the size of the "monsters"? I think that even the biggest one is not longer than 80 feet, and even that sounds a lot. It is not only hard to hide for such big animals, they also need to eat. Which can be a huge problem.

Comet

When it comes to anime, I hardly ever hear/see anyone mention "Return of the Cat". I loved that one, although I think "Princess Mononoke is better.
Rebel

NICOLE> Don't worry about it. We tend to repeat ourselves a little anyway.
Algernon

I was never a big fan of Anime and Manga, I just don't like the style :/ But I have to admit that I like the Mangas "Astro Boy" and "Kimba the white lion". I don't think the Kimba anime is as good as the manga; the manga has a far better and more interesting plot which reminds of "Journey to the Center of the Earth". But - that's a matter of taste, of course.
Comet

Yeah, my boyfriend and I were not big fans of "Spirited Away" either. It's not like it is a bad movie... it just didn't live up to the hype. We both agree that "Princess Mononoke" and "Howl's Moving Castle" are much better, particularly the former which has been one of my favorite movies ever since I first saw it several years ago.

Wingless & Shaiya: Thank you for welcoming me, lovely to meet you!

The show, its wonderful characters and storytelling were very much my childhood.

I'd be interested in joining the discussions, though apologies if I go over anything that's already been discussed or mentioned!

Nicola

Mononoke is definitely Miyazaki's best movie, but I liked Spirited Away a lot too. It's simple, but has a lot of good characters.

If you're looking for other recommendations, Trigun is probably my favorite anime. It's a sci-fi/ Old West fusion with great action and good comedy, and later on in the series some really intense moral dilemmas. Vash is probably the only "never kill the bad guy" hero who really grapples with what that philosophy requires.

Jurgan - [jurgan6@yahoo.com]

Matt: And if you're not squeamish, may I also recommend "Berserk"?

And speaking of Miyazaki, I recently watched "Spirited Away," and to be honest, I'm not quite sure why that's considered Miyazaki's masterpiece. The story was okay, and while there were some interesting visuals, there was nothing I'd call stunning or awe-inspiring, except in the last ten minutes. I honestly felt that "Princess Mononoke" was and is the superior Miyazaki film.

Hi,

I've been a fan of Gargoyles since I can remember, but haven't had much to do with online forums etc.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading your comments last week about her character, and of course how the fans of the show are keeping it alive. Great stuff :)

Nicola

MATT> While I'm not the biggest anime fan, may I recommend "Cowboy Bebop?"

And Princess Mononoke is awesome.

Random: My boyfriend and I watched "Kiki's Delivery Service" yesterday (we've been making our way through all of Miyazaki's films lately) and I was amused to discover that (in the English dub) the title character's parents are voiced by none other than Kath Soucie and Jeff Bennett, the workhorses of "Gargoyles". Kinda fun. We also greatly enjoyed Phil Hartman as Jiji, the black cat. Of all of Miyazaki's films we've seen so far, we put it right at the top with "Princess Mononoke", "Howl's Moving Castle" and "The Secret World of Arrietty".

FTBM2010> Yes, Othello has a small "club" on his tail, like a very small version of the thing Ankylosaurs have. Without spikes and all, just a small bulge. But much smaller and not as round as the one he has as Coldstone. Maybe Demona told Xanatos about this detail when they created Coldstone since Othello's tail seems to habe been destroyed?

I don't know how their souls work now, but I'm pretty sure they are just like they were alive, the only difference for them being trapped in robot bodies (and interacting with the functions of these, of course). I can't imagine Coldsteel as a good guy, but I think it's possible xD

Comet

Oh, didn't bother checking last week's comments until just now! Thanks also to Anthony Tini, Brainiac, and Masterdamon.
Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

@Comet - I'm not really one to notice bloopers generally, but since you are...did "Othello" have a ball on his tail while still alive, or was that added when he became a cyborg?

Also as a more general question --- the "new Trio" - Othello, Desdemona/Coldfire, and Iago/Coldsteel are technically ghosts, right? How does that differentiate them from the living souls, exactly? At least in terms of their ability to change or what have you? Does anyone know? Are they "fixed" in their current states/wills, more or less? As in could Coldstone/fire turn evil and Coldsteel become good, or are they "fixed"? does anyone know how that works in the Garg universe?

@BraIniac - just saw your post from last week - my bad, I tend to "fat-finger" it when I'm wharrgarbel-ing ;) My kingdom for a preview function...

A side note - any Firefly fans here? Am I the only one that cried at their reunion panel vid?

FTBM2010

MASTERDRAMON - Thanks. It's been a long time
since I saw "Teen Titans", so my memory was cloudy - and I might have also gotten mixed up by the "tri" part of the guy's name.
Todd:
Generally, and in the "Teen Titans" adaptation as well, the demon Trigon has been depicted with four eyes rather than three. Based on their position, the color of the skin around them, and the fact that "Young Justice: Invasion" focuses on space and alien races, I'm guessing that the owner of those eyes is Despero, an alien warlord with mind-control powers. "Justice League" fans may remember him from the episode "Hearts and Minds," where he was - funnily enough, given that Despero is tall, muscular, and purple - voiced by none other than Keith David.
So on Greg's ComiCon ramble, he mentions signing issues and trades of Mecha-Nation. Now, far as I can tell from SLG's website, amazon, and diamond comics, only issue 1 has come out and the trade is due out in January. Do any of you know if they were only available at the Con, or is there another way to get them?
UncleDeadly

BRAINIAC - That preview is impressive. Thanks for posting the link to it.
I noticed that one of the shots was of a sinister-looking frace with three eyes. I have some vague memories from "Teen Titans" of Raven having a demon father named Trigon who had three eyes; I wonder if this is a "Young Justice" adaptation of the character.
Okay, maybe we can have another great discussion here. I missed that although I'm more lurking/reading than seriously contributing.

I know there are a few collections of bloopers from the animated episodes, but here are some drawing errors I've seen in the comics:

Rock of Ages
The orb at the tail tip of Coldstone is missing.

Tyrants / Phoenix
- Constantines banner shows the wrong amount of claws in some, but not all panels. I don't know how this happened.
- Goliath and "Second" were drawn with the wrong amount of fingers on the wings. Both originally had only one on each wing, but here they appear with 3, sometimes. Just look at the sleeping Goliath when Brooklyn visits castle Wyvern....

This is in no way meant attacking, I still really love the comics and the art in them ;)
And sorry for (maybe) bad English, sometimes I have problems with it and sometimes not, don't know why. xD
