Wolf > Did you ever watch Spectacular Spiderman?
Rebel - [rebelfornea at gmail dot com]

Wolf>"not as good as the 90s cartoon"

Now that's just being needlessly mean.

Harlan Phoenix

Phoenician and Adam> Heck, even both of the 80s cartoons outperform USM. For one thing, Amazing Friends for all of it's 80s cheese sells the idea of Spider-Man working with other heroes better.
Antiyonder

After we watched SSM, my friend and I started watching Ultimate Spiderman on Netflix. After about 3 episodes, we looked at each other and said this is terrible and stopped watching.

Momosa- I live in Minnesota and might be able to help you.

Adam - [carl006_1999 at yahoo dot com]

Welcome to the Comment Room, Momosa! I'm personally still trying to gather up the proper funds to make it out to Minnesota next year, but as to your question, you might want to repost it once the Comment Room resets later tonight to be sure everyone who visits on a (somewhat) regular basis has had a chance to see it :)

Speaking of conventions, I'm curious if any regulars made it out to San Diego's Comic Con this weekend -- in particular if they were lucky enough to catch any of Greg's SLG signings or the unofficial/official AskGreg Live yesterday . . .

Wolf -- Never caught Greg Weisman's The Spectacular Spider-Man?

Futurama -- Did not regularly watch the series until it was picked up (repeats an' all) by Comedy Central. Been a steady fan since d:

"The suspense is terrible, I hope it lasts" -- Willy Wonka

Saw a bit of "Antiques Roadshow" on the local PBS station last night, and one of the antiques on it was a Japanese object with some small statuettes of tengu (winged beings from Japanese legend) on it, which were described as "protective figures". Ties in all the more with Greg Weisman identifying the Ishimura gargoyles as tengu.

Hello!

First time posting, after stumbling across this site about a month or so ago and lurking amongst all the feels that it invokes.

In a completely unrelated note, would anyone be interested in and/or help out with a Gargoyles-themes cabana or party room at CONvergence2014? Just trying to gauge interest and make planning connections if people are, in fact, interested before applications become available and are due.

Momosa - [Minneapolis, MN]
Aut viam inveniam, aut faciam.

spider-man was renewed cause its making both disney & marvel money. Its not a bad show either, not as good as the 90s cartoon and the only really good episode was the one with Deadpool but its still a good show and im glad to see it got renewed cause its one of the few good cartoons on tv these days. Yes id rather see disney sink some cash into reviving gargoyles but they're going to focus on their flagship franchises like spider-man & avengers not a 20 year old show that only die hard fans still care about. And now that they own Star Wars i see a lot of money going towards that, gargoyles is more or less staying in the vault unless these dvd sales wake them up a bit.

I did it! I watched all 485 Best picture nominees in 365 days!

I was watching my new DVD of "Gargoyles Season Two Volume Two" this afternoon - "M.I. A." and "Grief" (I watched "Monsters", "Golem", and "Sanctuary" when it arrived in the mail on Thursday). In the "Previously On" scenes for "M. I. A.", Elisa notes as they're leaving Avalon (at the end of "Avalon Part Three") that Goliath is taking the Phoenix Gate and the Eye of Odin with him, and asks "Souvenirs?" This time, I thought almost at once of the running gag in "Young Justice"'s first season of Wally collecting souvenirs of his adventures.

The foreshadowing is probably just a coincidence; I doubt that anyone on the "Young Justice" staff had that line from "Gargoyles" when they came up with that running gag (we don't even know if it was Greg's idea or someone else's), but it amused me.

ill take one of those cases, i macguyvered one out of a couple of spare ones i had laying around but would prefer an actual 3 slot box. Also i too am curious as to what your cover looks like, right now mine is just the back of the stock insert and a picture of Demona i had floating around.

What would Snake Plissken do?

Futurama> I've always heard good things about the show, but never watched more than a clip here or there. But a couple months ago I decided to start watching from Episode 1. I've been cranking through the episodes and the films and I plan to finish right around the time the last episode airs.

I've enjoyed a lot of the episodes. Good stuff.

Has anyone tried signing up for the DMC without using a credit card? I'm worried about the scam reports out there, but when I try to sign up, it takes me to the page to enter the credit card info, and there's no other option. The FAQ says you can sign up by paying with check if you print out the shopping cart, but there's no shopping cart there. I don't know if they mean to just print out that signup page, with the tiny space on the right saying what movies I want and the price?

Here's the problem with most fanfic writers: they seem to think Dominique is a second life. It isn't. Demona spelled it plainly in "High Noon." She's a gargoyle. Dominique is just a tool to help her in her goals. She'll use the form because she changes into a human, whether she likes it or not, but Dominique is not another life for her.

finally got my copy of S2V2 & now i see why everyone is bitching about the box, stacking the DVDs like that is extremely stupid. They could've at least did something like they did with Season 1. The cover art i dont see the problem with, its not some awesome piece or promo art like the last 2 sets but it gets the job done. Anyone know where i might be able to find a better DVD box?

Saturday Morning Fun Pit was a blast to watch. I love the jabs they made cheaply made animation, reuse of animation, and the incredibly blatant commercialization.

So I was lookign on eBay and the DISNEY MOVIE SHOP (welovemovies23) has sold 448 copies of Gargoyles Season 2 Volume 2 in a span of 18 days. That's good, right? You think if this trend continues that Disney will start to pay attention?

Anthony Tini> The bit with Kif was my favorite. Funniest episode in this season so far.
KingCobra582 - [KingCobra582 at gmail dot com]

Speaking of violence, the latest Futurama episode "Saturday Morning Fun Pit" paid homage to three old cartoons, the third being G.I. Joe. Citizens complained the show was too violent, so Nixon took it upon himself to edit the show in real time in an attempt to make it less violent. The result was hilarious. Check it out if you have the chance.
Anthony Tini

The only thing I remember about power rangers is the controversy over violence. Initially it took a while for it to be picked up by Canadian TV-and, when it finally was(by Global TV), They were forced to edit it for violent content due to protesting by parents groups. I have never watched an entire episode through.
Wingless

I watched the first couple of seasons of Power Rangers but never really cared for it. I think it is funny when you watched something as a kid you really loved it and thought it was the best, but it does not stand the test of time. In the 80's, I thought GI Joe and Transformers were the best. But after buying the DVDs and watching them, I find them redundant and boring. In the 90's, it was X-men and Spider-man, even though they are much better than the other 2, they still have their corny moments. The only cartoon series that I watched as a kid that has stood the test of time is Gargoyles. I think that speaks to the quality of the product.
Adam - [carl006_1999 at yahoo dot com]

B!> That was me. I got Three copies of Herbie Rides Again. :(
Battle Beast - [Canada]
I did it! I watched all 485 Best picture nominees in 365 days!

I always wished that the Power Rangers series aged with its audience, instead of constantly resetting to the Pre-teen/child mindset. The original characters were actually interesting and I hoped that as I got older and they got older they would just act like it.
Brack

I'm pretty much the same way. I used to like Power Rangers when I was 9 or 10, lost interest at about 11 and hated them when I was a teenager.

Granted, I wasn't particularly keen on any of my former childhood interests when I was a teenager, not even Gargoyles; but I did become interested again in Gargoyles and Animaniacs when I got older.

Speaking of Animaniacs, they make fun of pretty much everything, and they did one episode that made fun of Power Rangers... and I even found that painful to watch, let alone the real thing.

I don't really mind the Pack, though, maybe because the reference isn't too obvious. And I get a kick out of Owen's deadpan comment in "Deadly Force" about "sizes, styles, and power ranges."

Paul - [nampahcfluap at yahoo dot com]

I liked Power Rangers when I was a kid. Then like 2 years ago I tried watching the 1st season again. Couldn't get past episode 3 because it was sooo awful (and I do love trash movies like the recent Sharknado). It's the opposite with nearly every Disney afternoon series, I like them even more.

B!> My two attempts at a second batch were more than a week apart, I can tell you that. I'm tempted to try again with an extra item in the list just to see if that will keep it from deletion.

Huzzah! Second batch of DVDs has come in from DMC without incident, third batch pending. I'm glad... I couldn't take the paranoia much longer! Someone else online ended up with three copies of Herbie Rides Again. o.0 Beep, beep, I'm a cargoyle! (Defenders of the road...)

Brainiac, how much time are you leaving between orders? My orders have been at least a week apart each time. Makes me wonder if they flag people trying to order multiples and calling in to check order status or somesuch... that's just me being paranoid though.

Wingless> Gyah. o.0 There ARE some things from my youth that I just wish would go away already! >.< And that's got to be a LOT of Power Rangers...

B! - [prplbeedoo at yahoo dot com]

Talk about frightening contrasts. We're just getting our season 2: V2. While Shout Factory has just announced Power Rangers Legacy: The First 20 Years. a 98 DVD box packed in a head shaped Red Ranger box. *gags*

Greg B> Yeah, I had that board game! In fact, I still have the black die with white pips. I use it every Sunday night when I'm RPGing. I have always remembered where it came from. In fact, I mentioned that board game a couple weeks ago when we were all telling stories of where we got our dice.

Unfortunatly, I have no idea where the rest of the game is. It might've been lost over the years or it might still be in my mom's basement/attic somewhere.

This time I will ask no YJ spoiler questions, I will ask what would've happened in The Spectacular Spider-Man season 3, though can you ask Greg when the Ask a Question thing will go back on? That's the first.
2. There were 8 Easter eggs (1. Chameleon escaping, 2. Mysterio and Tinkerer's next move, 3. Harry's revenge, 4. John Jameson's craziness, 5. The symbiote vanishing, 6. Black Cat blaming Spider-Man, 7. Sandman's next hiding place and 8. Norman Osborn's hiding)
3. What would be the next involvement of Season 3? (Spider-Man, No More!, Clone Saga, Secret of the Parkers, Reign of the Kingpin and Twelve vs Twelve?)
4. What would the characters be and who would play them?
And 5. What would the episode titles be?

Neill > Personally I enjoy intro theme songs as much as the next person, but cutting out intro songs in cartoons serves at least two purposes:

1. Allows for roughly one additional minute of scenes in the show. Important for a dense show like YJ where a lot of story can be told in a mere 60 seconds.
--or--
2. Allowing the network to sell an extra 60 seconds worth of commercials, which helps the network make more money off the show. This is important because in a day and age when youth shows rarely last very many seasons and toy sales aren't always a sure thing (especially when the toys are shitty quality and expensive), an extra 60 seconds of ads per episode over the course of a whole season could give a particular show a tiny financial advantage which might make it worthwhile to make another season of it.

Rebel - [rebelfornea at gmail dot com]

Matthew> I think that openings (especially for animated series) are even more important than the music within the show. If I start whistling the DuckTales theme a lot of people around me will recognize it and remember the show. Now try that with YJ... Or worse: Try this with YJ: Invasion. That show doesn't even have an intro. It has a 5 second Adobe After Effects title preset, not an intro. Who actually decided to cut the intro anyway?

JEB> I'd love to see all of this. I hope you or D. Taina can put it in youtube.

Neill - [neillgargoyle(a)gmail dot com]

Adam> great thoughts about Iago, I hope someday we get more info about his past.

So today's the day that the Young Justice Soundtrack is released and it got me thinking about how important music is for television, how it shapes the overall mood and tone for a scene. After all Gargoyles wouldn't be the same without its intense yet haunting opening theme nor would Spectacular Spider-Man's never-leave-your-head little tune. So I was wondering, what's some of your favorite music to appear in Greg's works?

Hey, JEB. I'd love to have those tapes, especially since you may have the version of Vows with the blood. I have it on tape but it's in extremely poor quality and I'm looking for a better version. I'll e-mail you with more details. Talk to you soon!
D. Taina
"The story is told -- though who can say if it be true..." -Shari

One more tape to add to the pile

4. A tape with an early recording of Vows, which I believe not only had the error ending, but also the blood in the initial fight that was removed in later airings. (I'd have to watch it to be sure, but I won't be able to do that for a bit.)

JEB - [JEB215AlphaZed at aol dot com]

Hi, all. Been a long time.

So, the long-overdue release of Season 2 Part 2 allows me to finally divest myself of my old VHS recordings of the series. (Had to force myself to do it, but I'm being realistic - I never watch VHS tapes anymore.) However, before I get rid of them, I thought I should ask... is anyone interested in taking either of the following off my hands, for fandom history value?

1. A tape with recordings of Gargoyles' short-lived run on USA Network, including unique commercial bumpers.
2. A tape with the syndicated version of Gargoyles: The Movie (the one that many people thought had Elisa saying "damn" at one point).

Also, I'd like to pass the following on to someone who will preserve it:

3. A video with footage from the first Gathering of the Gargoyles in New York (1997), which I got at the 1998 Gathering. An attempt of my own to copy it to DVD resulted in a tiny tiny portion of the tape being blanked, but it's 99.99% complete.

I will happily pay for shipping and insurance, to help make sure it arrives safely, but I ask that whoever takes it be willing to record it digitally, and post at least excerpts online for public viewing.

JEB - [JEB215AlphaZed at aol dot com]

Ok so Disney Movie Club deleted my order I made a few days ago. I am planning to buy Oliver and Company on blu-ray when it comes out on August 6, so I can try to order more Gargoyles S2V2 when I order that. I don't know if they will delete them off that order or not, but I will find out.
Audra - [birdygirl85 at hotmail dot com]

Ok, I would like to put in my 2 cents about Iago and whether he had a mate or not. If he determined that Desdemona was "destined" to be his back when they were young, then I don't see him "settling" for someone else. If that is the case, I would think that he spent a lot of time planning for a way to be with her. When he did make his play for her in 993, I think that could have been the straw that broke the camels back type move that got him banished.

However, if he did have a mate, I think she probably died before 993 and given what we know about him, I guess he became envious of what his rookery brother Othello had and became determined to have that happiness for himself.
