What Titania whispered to Fox might be important in the future, or it might not be. And it wouldn't be the first time that Greg Weisman left a Chekhov's Gun on the wall, so to speak. I remember somebody in "Lighthouse" comparing Merlin to the Magus, which was allegedly supposed to foreshadow a meeting between the two that never came about and never will.

I'm also reminded of some Chekhov's Guns that took a long time to fire. The Coyote Diamond, for example, was first introduced late in the first season and then never mentioned again until fairly late in the comics. And the computer virus that Xanatos obtained in "Legion" still hasn't been used, and we only have Word Of God assuring us that eventually it will be.

Are there still folks here that haven't been able to attain S2v2 due to overseas issues? DMC may be playing the "Haha I delete your order" game, but I can still get them via the eBay store for anyone who would like me to. So far, I'm sending 7 from Europe and 2 from the States.

I tell ya, of all the things going on with my wedding and travel and all, DMC has me the most on-edge...

Matt> Greg answered that question before... to you. ;)

It's fine, sometimes I forget when it's a question I've asked, too.

Here's the problem with most fanfic writers: they seem to think Dominique is a second life. It isn't. Demona spelled it plainly in "High Noon." She's a gargoyle. Dominique is just a tool to help her in her goals. She'll use the form because she changes into a human, whether she likes it or not, but Dominique is not another life for her.

FTBM> But it hasn't been revealed yet despite already being relevant to the characters. The story to which it is relevant might be a character-driven story, but if it's not relevant to a story, then I think it won't be revealed.
Supermorff

In anyone's searches of the archives, has Greg ever revealed if Fox told anyone else (most probably Xanatos) what Titania whispered?
Matt - [Saint Louis, Missouri, USA]
"For science, which, as my associate Fang indicated, must move ever forward. Plus there's the money... and I do love the drama!" - Sevarius, "Louse"

I remember asking Greg in person once if Titania's whisper would have been revealed in story. His answer was that it "might have come up." So I tend to think it had some significance but wasn't huge, but all of the speculation has made him unlikely to give it away. We'll probably end up learning whatever is significant in some other way.
Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Does it have to be relevant to the 'story'? It was an exchange between the mother and the daughter - it's relevant to the characters.
FTBM

GregB> That's a good point. Admittedly, some of my own assumptions are in play. GregW has said that he knows exactly what Titania said. It makes no sense at all to me (hence, my assumption) that he would know what Titania said and not reveal it in the episode unless he planned to reveal it in future. Another assumption: it only makes sense to reveal something like that if it becomes relevant to a story. (When I said the content of the message would be "important" in my last post, I meant important in the sense that it would be relevant to the story, not necessarily that it would be a key plot mover.) The fact of Titania whispering something does not affect (and has not affected) the plot; only the message she conveyed can do that, and we can only understand how when the message is revealed.

The Pulp Fiction example would be more applicable if people (e.g. Oberon or Xanatos) were reacting to Titania's whisper without knowing the contents. Titania whispered something, they want to know what it is, and plot falls out from the character interactions that follow. In that situation, the message would have been irrelevant. But that didn't happen in this case.

Supermorff

Supermorff> <<In contrast, Greg does know what Titania whispered to Fox. It's not a McGuffin because it didn't advance the plot by itself, but rather it was intended as foreshadowing for a story yet to come. As such, the content of the whisper *is* important, or would become important later on.>>

Is it really? I don't remember Greg saying it would become important later, I just spent the last forty minutes going through the archives looking for any indication of this, and he hasn't commented either way on that. Unless there's a response I missed.

KingCobra582 - [KingCobra582 at gmail dot com]

GregB> But those two things (Titania's whisper and Marcellus' briefcase) are not equivalent. The briefcase is a McGuffin, designed to move the plot forward without mattering what it is. It doesn't have or need a backstory. Tarantino has even stated that it doesn't matter.

In contrast, Greg does know what Titania whispered to Fox. It's not a McGuffin because it didn't advance the plot by itself, but rather it was intended as foreshadowing for a story yet to come. As such, the content of the whisper *is* important, or would become important later on.

Actally, now I think about it, the idea that it is somehow equivalent to the briefcase is probably one of the main problems with it. The briefcase is set up in such a way that its contents *must* be fantastic, incredible. There can be no other explanation for its use as a McGuffin. But the whisper was just a whisper from mother to daughter. Fans expecting it to be something incredible is what led Greg to clam up about it, because we've made it so that nothing can live up to the hype.

Personally, I don't care. I never thought the whisper was a big deal. If Greg was to tell us what she whispered, I'll just accept and move on. But some people won't feel the same way and could be disappointed.

Supermorff

After days of reading the archives, I have come up empty.

I am looking for some comments made by Greg about the last tier in season two, specifically The Gathering and on. I can't seem to find anything. I have a deccent ramble pieced together, but I need just a little more of Greg's words to end it. I've read all his rambles, but I'm unsure of where else to read.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

So, the logo for Greg Weisman's new show has been released -- http://tv.yahoo.com/blogs/tv-news/in-looking-forward---star-wars--looks-back---rebels--logo-and-art-revealed-233639338.html

And I'm not sure how old this tidbit is, but it also says that Star Wars Rebels -- still aiming for a Fall 2014 premiere -- would be airing on Disney Channel before making its stay on DisneyXD . . .

I remember a bad creativity demon I once had where Alex got kidnapped (hopefully in a more convincing way than in "Ransom", and without the out-of-character behavior from Fox), and the kidnappers' demand was that Fox tell them exactly what Titania whispered to her. (Might make a good satirical fanfic.)

Browsing through the archives about Fox, I came across this post, dated March 24, 2002, by Siren.

'When Titania whispered to Fox, is visibly irked Fox. I don't even think it was anything as big as you say it is. Titania probably just told her "That shirt makes you look fat", it probably has nothing to do with the future of Gargoyles and that's why you feel we all might be disappointed. This was all just part of your Master Plan to keep us guessing and coming back, wasn't it?!'

Greg's response:

'No. Not originally, anyway. It's you guys who have built it up and intimidated me into silence, frankly.'

I'll throw my hat in the ring as another who would like to know what Titania said. Don't care if its lame; still wanna know.

My personal speculation is that she said something to the effect that this was the outcome she wanted from the start for Fox and Alex.

FTBM

Not against speculation, it is fun; but doesn't mean I need Weisman or Tarantino coming in and giving us the concrete answer in these cases.

The whole point of abducting Alex to Avalon was to make sure that his magical skills wouldn't atrophy the way Fox's did.

Of course, it turned out that Fox did have some magic despite her lack of practice in it, but still not as much as Alex; and I'm pretty sure that the longevity of the Children of Oberon is linked to their use of magic, in which case it's unlikely that Fox will live much longer than an ordinary human.

Paul - [nampahcfluap at yahoo dot com]

Some things are better left to the imagination, and what Titania whispered to Fox is one of them. I mean, does anyone think "Pulp Fiction" would be better if we knew what was inside the briefcase?

I want to know what happens to Fox. We are assuming that Xanatos is dead by 2198, but what about Fox. If Alexander is alive then, then it is reasonable to think Fox is as well (assuming she was not killed). Maybe she is hanging out on Avalon with her mother.
Adam - [carl006_1999 at yahoo dot com]

Ha! That explains Fox's somewhat bewildered expression!

How about: "I know you stole that $20 out of my purse when you were 14."

I agree that it would be nice to know what Titania said. If it wasn't Earth shattering or a future plot point, then I don't see the harm with just posting in a rant what she whispered to Fox.

Just came across a report on the release of a new book about animated treatments of King Arthur, here:

http://matter-of-britain-on-screen.blogspot.com/2013/07/updates-on-saldas-arthurian-animation.html

Unfortunately, the table of contents didn't indicate whether it said anything about "Gargoyles", though one of the chapters covers the 90's.

I'd like to know what Titania whispered to Fox and I would have no problem if Greg just announced it. I really don't think it's anything earth-shattering but I would like to know. There are a lot of other things I'd like to know moreso though.

I saw a new book at the local bookstore last night titled "William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily, a New Hope" (complete with a picture of Darth Vader on the cover wearing an Elizabethan-style doublet). Just when you think the universe can't possibly get any stranger, it finds a way to do so.

I'm curious to know what Titania whispered, but I have no desire for Greg to just announce it to us. If it ever comes out, I want it to come out in the unfolding of the story. Only there does it have a chance of not dissapointing me.

Neill> I am indeed excited for the new Godzilla film. I grew up watching Godzilla as a kid and it gave me a love for monsters and strangely dubbed films. I would love to see Godzilla with Pacific Rim quality action especially to make up after that inferior 90's movie.

Is anyone else excited for the new Godzilla movie that comes out next year? It looks like they're doing this one right this time, every bit of info gets me more interested. Sadly they won't release the SDCC teaser online... I hope it does very well financially for Legendary Pictures and Warner after the bomb that Pacific Rim was. If Godzilla can't create excitement for movies about supernatural creatures again I don't know what will.

My pre-ordered copies of Young Justice: Season 2, Part 2 and the Young Justice soundtrack arrived from Amazon today.

I was pleasantly surprised that the 'interchange-able' CD cover was actually a full booklet, that holds John Takis's "Mighty Concerted: The Music of Young Justice," a brief but nice look at what it took to make the sounds of YJ as unique as the rest of Earth-16.

The booklet also contains a bunch of screen shots from both seasons (I particularly love their shot of Vandal Savage in "Coldhearted") and there's even a picture of the composers Kristopher Carter, Michael McCuistion, and Lolita Ritmanis with Producers Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman.

44 tracks, none of which reach the 4-minute mark (I don't buy many show soundtracks but I feel there's typically a longer suite or two). Not a complaint, just impressed with how fast-paced this show really was. :)

An Odd Keith David find: One of the unusual things I collect(other than records, CDs, Gargoyles stuff, is TV animated Christmas specials. Going through my video tapes and transferring stuff to digital, I came across a special I'd forgotten about. "Christmas In Tattertown" Pretty bizarre overall. Very old school looking(done in a sort of 1930's animation style. Ralph Bakshi is behind it - but one of the key voices in it is Keith David. The special dates from 1988. It's up on youtube(I've put a link to part 1). The audio is quite muted but you can certainly pick out Keith's voice. It doesn't appear that this ever made it to home video(I recorded it from TV). Enjoy a little Christmas in July and check it out.

I think the 90's Spider-Man show was a piece of crap. Terrible writing, abysmal animation, horrendous voice direction, stupid toyetic character designs... but I'd still take it over Ultimate.

Spectacular had great voice acting, perfect writing, really strong and fast animation... and just about perfectly captured the Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, John Romita days.

yes actually i did catch spectacular spider-man (ive seen pretty much all the marvel cartoons from the 80s up til now) & i stand by my original statement. Spectacular spider-man was in no way bad i just dont like high school spider-man. Same with x-men, evolution was a good show but id rather have x-men the animated series. I prefer to see the characters when they are seasoned not just starting out.
