There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!

>>And even if it does apply to all the Children...They can still work around that. All they need is justification in their own minds. All of Oberon's laws are open to interpretation.

<<Aren't Goliath's clan supposed to be immune to magic they don't invite?>>

It depends on the magic. There's still Oberon's Law not to interfere with mortals, but a trickster like Puck is good at finding loopholes... especially when he's training Alexander... which Oberon tasked him to do.

Plus, it depends on the spell. I don't recall Goliath's clan inviting themselves to be turned into humans, or Elisa into a gargoyle. He loopholed Demona's request... granted Demona didn't ask for either, her exact words were vague.

A soul transfer does require voluntary participation, though. It's a much more complex spell.

As for how Puck was able to do anything at all.

"You could do more than that, Owen. If you were to transform into Puck and wiggle your nose or something."

.... Yeah, Xanatos was asking for Puck to take action to get the transfer done... and he did.

The only magic Goliath and his clan are immune to is Oberon's own because he declared it as such. I don't think that applies to the rest of the Children.

Here's the problem with most fanfic writers: they seem to think Dominique is a second life. It isn't. Demona spelled it plainly in "High Noon." She's a gargoyle. Dominique is just a tool to help her in her goals. She'll use the form because she changes into a human, whether she likes it or not, but Dominique is not another life for her.

ESG: Remember Puck casting a spell on Bronx, saying, "Coldstone is not the enemy"? That should answer your question.

For fans of Greg Weisman and his note cards watch the first few seconds of the video. He's sporting a Gargoyles shirt, which is awesome. For those who are also Star Wars fans, enjoy this video that has a big reveal at the end.

There are two things I've been wondering about "Possession." First of all, what was that magic that Puck-as-Goliath used on Lexington while explaining his plan? Aren't Goliath's clan supposed to be immune to magic they don't invite? And secondly, why was Bronx angered by Puck-as-Goliath's presence, but welcoming of Puck-as-Coldstone?

Demona hates volleyballs as much as she hates humans so obviously that wouldn't happen.

The enemy is clever. We're smaller but whatever. When we put it together, I'll form the head.

GXB> She paints Goliath's face on a volley ball and proceeds to blame it for all her woes...

Demona, all alone with herself... yeah, that won't go well for her. Who will she blame her problems on?

Even if we posit a human-free Avalon, though, I can't see Demona being all too happy there.

Oh, to be sure, I think she might think she'd be happy there. But Demona thinks a lot of things would make her happy, that most definitely wouldn't. 995 or 1995, she has a lot of growing up to do before she finds any serious self-satisfaction.

Without seriously dealing with her internal issues (in a way that's not likely to happen until 2198 at the earliest), I doubt even her big dream of being Ultimate Mega-Empress of a gargoyle-only planet would make her happy.

ESG> "Do you think Demona would enjoy living on Avalon? A paradise, cut off from the world of the humans? Putting aside her lust for genocide, of course: say it's 995 Demona."

Hard to say. If it was just Tom as the resident human, maybe, but we've seen her lacking faith in humans that have been friendly towards her (though in the case of the Captain, a lot more understandable). So, it's out of the question that she'd be willing to be among humans who we once hostile towards her.

Besides:
1. In hindsight we see in the comic that had she maintained control of the Grimorum, she would have used it to control the humans in Scotland.

2. I think Brooklyn's line in Clan Building is something to remember when looking at the younger Demona:

"Remember, this is Demona Classic. Tenth century and...

Still the traitor who caused The Wyvern Massacre!"

Infact, I will make that my new comment room signature.

Antiyonder
"Remember, this is Demona Classic. Tenth century and... Still the traitor who caused The Wyvern Massacre!" (Brooklyn reminding himself and the audience that Ancient Scotland Demona isn't a total Angel.)

I got the impression from "City of Stone" that deep down, Demona really hates being alone. And she definitely hates humans, even in 994. So whether she had the island all to herself or whether she had to share it with the likes of Katharine and Tom (and possibly the Magus), I don't think she would enjoy it.

The first run of gargoyle comics that marvel did were they part of the marvel universe or were they stand alone?

Really? You'd bet that?

I can't really see either of them going for any of those things. Together or not.

I bet once they moved back into the castle, Xanatos would ask Goliath to just hang out, maybe go to the gym together, or watch movies.

There should've been ten solid minutes of Awakening dedicated to Xanatos smelling Goliath's hair.

I was watching "British Antiques Roadshow" last evening, and the first items they showed on it were a few figurines of "Buddhist lion-dogs" - presumably the same creatures also known as fu-dogs or fu-lions. The people on the show even described them as being guardian figures. And that episode was filmed at a castle in Scotland (Blair Castle, to be precise).

Hufflepuffs are great finders

I'm sure in Xanatos's perfect scenario he would have the gargoyles, the steel clan, the mutates and the pack all under his control. He has backup plans to every backup plan. I'm sure there is a backup plan should the steel clan somehow turn against him.
Why do they look Goliath? Honestly, I think he has a man crush on him.

Brack

Greg B: "Once they became too difficult to control, then he began considering it."

And that happened at about the same time that he finished building/programming the Steel Clan.

Paul - [nampahcfluap at yahoo dot com]

The Quarrymen's hammers sure seem like safety measures. I mean, they can explode a statue with one swing! I'm sure there'll be several self-inflicted injuries reported.
ESG

Why model the Steel Clan after Goliath? 1) He's the biggest and strongest of the clan, and 2) to potentially frame or blackmail Goliath and the clan. It's typical Xanatos, putting another piece on the board that he can turn to his advantage in several ways, depending how Goliath reacts.

As to Xanatos referring to Goliath as "Magnificent," it's delivered in a way that conveys not only awe at this creature coming to life, but the fruition of a lot of money and effort spent to achieve bringing the Gargoyles out of a thousand-year sleep... maybe even something his future self told him to do, and now he's seeing the results. And boy, doesn't he love it when a plan comes together...

B! - [prplbeedoo at yahoo dot com]

No, he was hoping he could have both the gargoyles and the Steel Clan. He didn't build the Steel Clan for the sole purpose of replacing them. Once they became too difficult to control, then he began considering it.
Greg Bishansky

He built the Steel Clan to replace the gargoyles as protectors of his castle, since the gargoyles were proving more difficult to control than he anticipated.

As for why he wanted them to look like Goliath... well, I think he just really liked Goliath's appearance, judging by the way he called it "Magnificent!" in Awakening, Part Two.

Paul - [nampahcfluap at yahoo dot com]

I was looking at the Wiki and 19 years ago today is when the Steel Clan Robots were first activated and used to attack Goliath and his clan.

When do you guys think that Xanatos decided to have these robots built? Was he thinking that just in case the spell wasn't broken it would still be cool to have some metal looking gargoyles perched around the castle just in case he needed to repel an invasion? :)
