I did it! I watched all 485 Best picture nominees in 365 days!

Just noticed there are still six of these left, if anyone's interested:

I gotta say, that is one of the most interesting posts that I have seen in here in some time... I don't even know where to start.

Matt: Given the general thematic elements of the miniseries and, specifically, the terms of Yama's own banishment, I always figured he was about to say...

"The answer is obvious. You'll know when...

You decide you have arrived."

I was recently pouring through Bad Guys and had a thought. Anyone else wonder what Yama was going to say before dawn struck? How will they know when they've achieved redemption? It is something obvious, but not successful missions. Any thoughts?

ANTIYONDER - I doubt that too many people will be missing "To Serve Mankind". (Especially not the repeated name of the statesman whom the Illuminati wanted Goliath to assassinate.) Probably not "Generations", either (which, as I've mentioned before, has the big disadvantage of suggesting that Demona has the right idea when all the humans in that story - the Quarrymen, the woman who pretends to be a crime victim to lure the gargoyles into a trap, and the invisible man - are evil, anti-gargoyle, and treacherous.)

Hufflepuffs are really good finders

Feedinky> Actually, as I posted in the page comment section, some of the episodes are missing. Notably Mark of the Panther and Sentinel. Even a couple of Season 3 (Generations and To Serve Mankind) aren't there.
Antiyonder
"Remember, this is Demona Classic. Tenth century and... Still the traitor who caused The Wyvern Massacre!" (Brooklyn reminding himself and the audience that Ancient Scotland Demona isn't a total Angel.)

i like the gargoyles cartoon it the best show ever gargoyles you Rock :) oh & ps i almost had a crush on elisa maza then i told myself it only a cartoon LMFAO silly me lol

Todd: Regarding your question in your review of the second and third volumes of the YJ comics...

http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=19475

The "guy in the blue suit between Zatara and the original Flash" is Wildcat, a member of the Justice Society and typically depicted as a mentor/trainer for numerous heroes that followed him, especially Black Canary.

And the "blond person in red and black clothing standing between the original Flash and the current Flash" appears to be Joan Garrick, Jay's wife who also appears in "Downtime."

Ah, yes. That is true. I recall I did that one because it was brought up in a forum and I really liked the idea enough to ask Greg...and y'know forgot the rule. Thanks for the help!
Yojimbo

Yojimbo: Ah, yes. I remember that post.

It was the Tiamat question that was problematic. While it's a clever theory, posing it to Greg is a bit too close to a story idea masquerading as a question - a violation of Guideline #8.

While I'm sure you did not intend it as such, I hope you can understand that we need to be strict about these kinds of questions.

Go ahead and re-post the others if you like, however. IIRC they were all fine.

Once again, thanks for checking back in, and I hope you found this info helpful!

I only remember 3 out of the 5 - though they all stemmed from Young Justice: Legacy - who voiced Dr. Sandsmark, were the disasters created by Tiamat used by the Light to help land the Reach and Kroloteans on Earth, and was the Natural History Museum based on the Goulandris Museum.
Yojimbo

Yojimbo: That would've been me. And I'm definitely glad to help you in this manner.

Unfortunately, I'm going to need a little more info than that in order to give a specific answer. Could you tell me what exactly you asked about, or anything else that might help jog my memory?

Thanks!

I'm trying to get in touch with the Ask Greg Moderator who deleted my 2nd submission of 5 questions from Nov. 29, 2013 (the first was just answered on the 31st). I simply want to know which of the 5 were considered spoilers or satisfied whatever criteria that the whole thing was deleted so I don't ask the same thing again. Thanks.

BRAINIAC - Sevarius's experiments would certainly fit the "unusual" part of the punishment for the victims, as well as the "cruel" part.

I recently began thinking about Knight's Spur, the London clan's home - and I'd say that it holds a lot of story material - enough that if Greg ever gets to tell more "Gargoyles" stories (including the "Pendragon" spin-off, which would likely involve the London clan), I hope we can learn more about it and its history.

It's clearly a stately home (the architecture suggests the late Stuart period, or maybe the Georgian) - and large (of course, it has to be, since there are 196 members of its clan - which would rise to 221 once the eggs hatched in 1998). Stately homes were originally the dwellings of the aristocracy and landed gentry; assuming that the same holds true for Knight's Spur, an upper-class human family probably lived there at one point, and had it built. Since the clan's been evidently living there for a long time, if this human family existed, it must have lived in partnership with the gargoyles (along the same lines, as, say, the humans and gargoyles of Ishimura). There's no mention of it in any of the London clan stories, though I don't know whether this hypothetical human family died out or moved away, or whether there just wasn't room to mention it. (King Arthur and Macbeth might have been the first humans to visit Knight's Spur for a long time.) Given the secluded nature of Knight's Spur's setting (thick forest surrounding it), it probably was built as a refuge for the London clan - the one English clan to survive the gargoyle-slaughters in England that had taken place by the reign of Edward the Confessor.

Since the London clan evidently had ties to King Arthur even before the events in "Pendragon" (in light of the nursery rhyme Griff learned about Excalibur that must have been passed down through the clan all the way back to the aftermath of Arthur's departure for Avalon), I wonder if this hypothetical human family might have been descended from one or more of the knights of the Round Table (in which case the secluded location might have been chosen as much to allow this human family to hide from the Saxons after they took over that part of Britain, and later the Normans, as to allow the gargoyles to hide from humans in general).

It was clearly well-furnished, judging from the library that we see in the Stone of Destiny story (it's well-stocked with books, including a copy of Sir Thomas Malory's "Le Morte d'Arthur", and presumably many other books on the Arthurian legend for King Arthur to consult).

As I mentioned, the architectural style suggests the latter half of the 17th century at earliest (except for one panel showing the gargoyles in stone sleep, which suggests medieval-style battlements), though the gargoyles seem to have been there long before that. (Country houses were often remodelled to fit the current style in architecture; Knight's Spur was probably such a case, and might well have once looked more Tudor-style or medieval before its late Stuart makeover.)

Country houses were expensive to keep up (especially after the social changes of the 20th century - two world wars didn't help); obviously the "Into the Mystic" shop helps with some of the bills, though I wonder whether the London clan have found other ways to financially support their home. (Of course, the most obvious way to raise money to support a country house - opening it to the public and charging admission - would be difficult in light of the nature of the inhabitants.)

Let's hope that someday, Greg Weisman will get to tell more stories about the London gargoyles and their home.
