Did I just read a ramble from 1998?! O_o

Well, that question would be deleted regardless if submitted to ASK GREG, as Greg has repeatedly stated that he's not interested in spoiling any potential future SpecSpidey plans here.

LordStarScream, this is the comment room, not Ask Greg itself. You could ask Greg that question directly by clicking on "Ask a question," but I doubt he'd answer.

If u r not 2 busy, could u tell me if Harry was gonna be the hobgoblin in the third season of spectacular, or was it going 2 be Roderick?

As I remember, Greg said once that "Gargoyles might have ruled over some humans at some point". I can't remember where exactly I found that, but it was here on this site. Where and when, do you think, did that (the mentioned Gargoyle thing) happen?

So, I've never posted anything on a site like this before, so bare with e if I sound ignorant or something.

I was reading one of Greg's rambles and it ended kind of abruptly and I was wondering if there was anyway to find a complete version of it, or if it was supposed to end the way it did. I would appreciate any help. The "ramble" was called: GARGOYLES, SEX and ROMANCE.

Well, first things first, you have to remember that they are not humans with wings. They are gargoyles. And gargoyles just seem to mature more slowly than humans. The Trio in 1996 may, in some ways, act like human teenagers, but they are really neither. They are gargoyles in their late 30s, and their wealth of life experiences would reflect that. Once you get your head around the idea that they are a very different species from humans, it makes a lot more sense.

I was browsing the Gargoyles Bible and had a question maybe someone here could elaborate on. Perhaps the officially unoffical gargoyles biologist?

If the Trio is chronologically in their late 30's early 40's why are they mentally still teenagers? I understand they are biologically in their late teens because they age slower but why would their mental capacities be hindered by the aging process? I would imagine once they are biologically in their tweens, about 20-25 years old, they would be cognizant and able to grow mentally older.

Harlan> Can you explain the comment about Greg's career being a meme? I dont understand what you meant by that.

So is literally everyone else. Even those of us who didn't like it admitted we were fine with it as publicity.

It's like we're being scolded because we didn't agree with Masterdramon the right way. I'm a sad human being for being able to separate my (various, personal and subjective) annoyances and dislike of the podcast and the objective benefit the podcast has, giving it general approval?

I guess that's just part of badly representing my fandom.

I'm of the opinion that if even one person listening to this podcast had there curiosity piqued enough to check out the show, then it's a win.

Also let's barely describe one of the characters at the most minimum detail possible and then over-emphasize the fact he's the gay one.

I think it badly reflects on the series when they spend five seconds on the heroes and spend a million years on the villains and oh my god I'm so tired of Weisman's career being a giant meme.

Matt: To be fair, while that pronunciation is incorrect for the "Gargoyles" version of the character, I've seen at least one production of the original play where it was indeed pronounced "Tye-TANE-e-uh."

But as to the general point...I think getting hung up on a few mispronunciations or misremembered tidbits from episodes that these folks haven't seen in nearly twenty years misses the point at best, and reflects badly on our fandom at worst.

For the most part, we've all more-or-less internalized the 65 episodes and 18 issues of canon material so deeply that hearing something that doesn't "mesh" rubs us the wrong way, almost automatically - I get that, and I sympathize with it. I can't pretend I don't instinctively feel the same way, to a degree.

But we should never forget that that's not the only way to enjoy the series...and indeed, is no more or less valid than what these folks are doing. Hell, it's a hallmark of just how great the series was, is, and remains that even with hazy memories of the finer details, it clearly impacted all of the podcasters immensely.

Really, if you can actually bring yourself to "hate" something as innocuous as this, Harlan...I can't help but find that rather sad. Be a bit irritated by the less well-remembered characterizations, sure. I get that.

But let's be frank: at worst the video is a perfectly harmless bit of fun, and at best it's a little more spreading of the word from people whose love of the series is just as wholesome and genuine as anyone's here.

In short...don't sweat the details, mates. Personally, I'm of the opinion that any positive remembrance of "Gargoyles" can only be a good thing.

Yeah, a lot of it was cringe-worthy (I was particularly bothered by their pronunciation of Titania, said like titanium), but it is hard to complain much when they are praising the series pretty much without fault. Or, as Xanatos said, don't look a gift gargoyle in the mouth.

I'm pretty sure "Brooklyn was a badass loner with a heart of gold" came entirely from the five seconds he wore a biker jacket.

Listened to the podcast, and while there were more than a few moments that made a longtime-obsessed fan wince, I started enjoying it when they began describing their favorite moments they remembered most from the series (enough to make ME recall this old Greg Ramble http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?rid=289) I was also pleasantly surprised that they mentioned the SLG comics.

The folks on the show seemed vaguely aware of AskGreg (or, at the least, the TVTropes recap of all-things-Greg-Weisman) . . . but yeah, they could do with another viewing of the series -- which, taking a stab at how keen they are to feed that nostalgia, they would probably enjoy the additional layers to the show that their collective memory wasn't so quick recall. d:

Wow, haven't been here in forever. Last week, i saw a post about the whole series being on youtube and saw in the comment section of that web post that the second volume of season 2 had been released. What's this? I promptly ordered from the Disney store (after seeing the high prices on ebay and amazon). Can not believe i did not hear about this last year. Anyways, that dvd has since come in the mail and now i have resumed my converting the series to ipad compliant files so i can watch it on the go. Anyone else doing this or have done it in the past? I am using Handbrake to convert. Right now, i am getting each episode down to around 100-150 mb. The second season ones seem to get me files around 200 mb for some reason. Didn't change my encode settings, so don't know what happened there. Still, if i can get the whole series down to 6 gigs, i will be happy. The first season is 1.5 gigs. Still on the first disc of season 2. They look pretty good on the ipad. Since i can use the camera connection kit with sd cards to increase ipad storage, i want mp4 files of the series instead of dvds. Just another sign of the times, I guess. Anyone else doing something similar with their dvds?

I didn't see if anyone posted this last week, but here's an article where Greg talks "Rain of the Ghosts": http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/02/06/young-justice-and-the-spectacular-spider-mans-greg-weisman-discusses-his-new-book-rain-of-the-ghosts

That was pretty terrible.

But, surprisingly, not quite AS terrible as I expected it to be. It was hard to force my way through all of it for various reasons, but it could've been worse. If this got Gargoyles into someone's attention, I wouldn't be able to cite that as a bad thing.

So, I mean, I hated it a lot. But it didn't quiiiite push the hatred threshold to the point where I thought it'd be an irredeemable representation of the series. It nearly was, but it wasn't. So as far as something on a site everyone goes to and thus a lot of people would probably hear, its existence causes me no real irritation.

Which, coming from me, is a pretty high honor.

I'm kinda surprised that nobody else has posted this here yet:

http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/podcasts/3rd/42203-ep-104-gargoyles

Last week the "Nerd to the Third Power" podcast, affiliated with That Guy with the Glasses, focused the main segment of the show on reminiscing about "Gargoyles." Said segment starts around 50 minutes into the podcast.

While it starts off kinda shaky, as none of the participants appear to have seen the series recently (I mean...needing to consult Wikipedia to confirm whether it's "Elisa" or "Eliza"? Really?), once it gets going it's quite a treat.

And hey...never a bad thing to have more people chatting positively about the show!
