Yeah, I'm planning on being there. In fact, I'm currently looking for people to split the cost of a hotel room with. If anyone else is going, and is looking for people to room with, feel free to shoot me an email.

Since I don't have cable, almost all of the shows on the list are little more than names to me. But, since Bishansky brought up "House of Cards" - I have seen the British series that it was based on (though several years ago, since it aired in the early 90's), and liked it. The main character in it (called Francis Urquhart in the British original) definitely struck me as evocative of Shakespeare's Richard III in the combination of his unscrupulous scheming and periodic remarks to the audience (he even started off the first episode with the "Now is the winter of our discontent..." lines from the start of the play, about the resignation of Margaret Thatcher as Prime Minister).

<<I also dont know if I would call Breaking Bad the best show ever made. It is very good, but not sure it is the best.>>

I hesitate to say that also, but I am hard pressed to think of a TV series that is better. "Breaking Bad" was excellent, and it left the audience wanting more. The best performers know when to get off the stage.

Here's the problem with most fanfic writers: they seem to think Dominique is a second life. It isn't. Demona spelled it plainly in "High Noon." She's a gargoyle. Dominique is just a tool to help her in her goals. She'll use the form because she changes into a human, whether she likes it or not, but Dominique is not another life for her.

Ooh, tv series, eh? I currently watch Game of Thrones, Mad Men, The Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy, and have finished watching Breaking Bad and House of Cards. Most of these are really good, but I find myself getting bored with SOA. Good thing it finishes with this upcoming season. It started out as a great Hamlet-like story, but has not held my attention this past season. I really think they have stayed on a season or two too long.

Game of Thrones has gotten better each season and The Walking Dead really needs a strong finish to this current season. Mad Men is a bit of a chore to get through the first season or two. It does get better, but I do not agree with most of the sunshine pumpers about this show. I also dont know if I would call Breaking Bad the best show ever made. It is very good, but not sure it is the best.

I generally don't watch a lot of TV. I've found a select number of new shows I liked and followed them(or have tried to). Vikings, Arrow, Agents of SHIELD and The Tomorrow People. Have enjoyed them all in their own way. I'm really P.O.ed that they've axed the Tomorrow People. Thought it was quality right from the beginning.

Todd Jensen> Yep. It wouldn't be cannibalism, but it would still be anthropophagy...

...and now I need to scrub my brain again.

In the case of cannibalism, I doubt we'd see gargoyles eating humans (which wouldn't count anyway, since it's only cannibalism if you're eating your own species) outside of Castaway's propaganda. (I think Demona hates humans too much to want them anywhere near her mouth.)

I feel like the only person who liked Agents of SHIELD less when it tied to Winter Soldier.

TODD> Yup, that incident was indeed influenced by the Black Dinner. George R.R. Martin is a student of history and it shows. I'm reading the first book right now and I absolutely love it. I think you would, too.

<<. I also recommend Mad Men, also on Netflix. I enjoyed Orange is the New Black, but it's not for everyone.>>

I hear great things about "Mad Men", I plan to check it soon. Although I'm debating whether to start now or wait until the last season is added to Netflix. "Orange Is the New Black" is also on my list. And hey, nothing good is for everybody. The best works of art are always at least a little provocative. Playing it safe is the worst thing an artist can do.

BISHANSKY - [The series was obviously inspired by actual history, the War of the Roses, the Black Dinner of 1440]

While I haven't seen "Game of Thrones", I'd suspected that there was some influence from the Wars of the Roses early on (in particular, the names of the two feuding families being "Lanister" and "Stark"). Am I correct in assuming that
the infamous Red Wedding
was the part that was influenced by the Black Dinner? (A part of Scottish history that I noticed all the more, ever since reading a fictionalized version of it in "The Black Douglas" several years ago.)

Arrow is kind of a mixed bag for me, I don't really watch it for the main character but to see how they translate the comics into live action. It suffers from the same problems most CW shows have (way too much emphasis on the "beautiful elite", even more emphasis on pointless personal drama and inconstant acting). There are elements that I do like but they don't come up as often as I'd like. Here's hoping that the Flash series does it better.
Matthew
I have nothing more to say...So why am I still talking?

@Greg B - I look forward to your review of Arrow. To me, it felt like a mixture of elements from LOST and Nolan's Batman. Unfortuantely, it feels a little like Smallville and has that WB feel, but overall I definitely did enjoy it.

Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and House of Cards are all excellent shows. I also recommend Mad Men, also on Netflix. I enjoyed Orange is the New Black, but it's not for everyone.

Anthony Tini

I haven't seen Arrow, but I've heard good things so as soon as the second season hits Netflix, I plan on binge watching.

In terms of TV I have been watching for the last few months. In alphabetical order.

Agents of SHIELD - I dropped it after the first five or so episodes, then everybody told me it had improved after "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" came out. I tuned in; it didn't. The acting, writing, directing, and cinematography are atrocious; and the Mary Sue (yes, that's her name) might be the most repulsive character to ever hit television. This show is a callback to the days when TV was "the idiot box". At this point, the only hope this show has is to Red Wedding the entire cast as well as the executive showrunners and replace them with storytellers that are competent. If this show didn't have Marvel's name on it, it would have been cancelled.

Breaking Bad - I was a latecomer to this, but I binged it on Netflix and this show is as great as everybody says it is. Bryan Cranston undergoes this incredible transformation as his character transforms from a High School chemistry teacher to a methenamine kingpin. All of the actors are excellent, the writing is sharp, the direction is beautiful (the complete opposite of Agents). Walter White is very much a Demona-esque character, both destroying what they set out to save while blaming others for their screw-ups. It ended a few months ago, but it's all up on Netflix.

Game of Thrones - I love this show; it's my favorite thing on the air right now. Perfect casting, sharp writing (based on great source material), and the story is just engrossing. Proof that an epic fantasy TV show can be smart (basically, it's the opposite of Hercules, Xena, and all that crap). Peter Dinklage is brilliant as Tyrion Lannister and I think his performance in Sunday's episode has secured him his second Emmy for playing the character. The series was obviously inspired by actual history, the War of the Roses, the Black Dinner of 1440; not to mention the Shakespearean influences. I love it.

House of Cards - A Netflix exclusive show starring Kevin Spacey as Frank Underwood, a House Majority Whip, who was promised an appointment as Secretary of State by the new administration, doesn't get it and then proceeds with his own long running master plan to attain power at any cost. He is very much Iago, Richard III, and Macbeth rolled into one. His wife, Claire, is very Lady Macbeth... it's good TV.

I really, really, really, really want to go to CONvergence, but at the moment I have no idea whether I'll have a job in July that would prevent me from attending, and I'm unlikely to get a definitive answer from any of my prospects by tomorrow. So it's looking like I'll have to pay extra at the door if I do end up going; I just can't justify right now paying a non-refundable fee for something I don't even know I'll be able to go to. Much as the fanboy portions of my brain may protest, I do, sadly, need to give priority to gainful employment.

Blarg... Torn between wanting a job as soon as possible and hoping for one that doesn't start till after July 6... Oh cruel world...

Maybe we need to change the "make a comment" page so that it won't post unless you enter your name, to guard against this kind of thing.

I gotta admit, from a biological perspective, It'd be pretty interesting. And if the prevailing theory that gargates dispose of their solid waste in their shed stone skin, then perhaps the liquid waste would be discarded during the day as well... Something to consider. Not that I want it to become canon or anything.

Well, strictly speaking, by the time they would get to eating they would've shed any skin that would have contact with waste materials exerted during the day.

The "organic stone" covers all exposed parts of the body, after all. ;)

Where do you go to make an independent wiki like GargWiki? One of the things that are interesting that you have it blocked off from the general public which I think is a good way to fight vandalism, among other things.
