The prices for the SLG comics really go up like crazy. I've seen an issue of Clan Building V2 being sold for over 1500€ (roughly 1700$ I think). It's absurd.

Heroes of Hope> I'm assuming this question is directed at Greg Weisman and not inquiring after my own half scribbled Dracula fanfics. In which case, ongoing or upcoming Wise Man projects that we know of include...

* Writing the Star Wars Kanaan prequal comic for Marvel.

* Upcoming Starbrand & Nightmask comic also from Marvel, due out next month.

* Staff writing on season 2 of Shimmer & Shine, a pre-school Nick Jnr show.

* And of course putting the final touches on the Rain of The Ghosts audioplay.

Hi I just been wondering what have you been up to lately any new works in the making?
The Heroes of Hope

Brainiac> That sounds awesome. Kinda want to see that now.

Matthew> He has played the role. Gave it an interesting spin as being/going senile, from what I've heard.

There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!

You know if Prospero was to ever show up on Gargoyles I always thought that Patrick Stewart would be perfect for voicing him.

Todd Jensen> It actually reads like that via the phrasing; "fins like arms" is fins that seem/look like arms, not to be confused with fin-like arms, arms that appear rather fin-like, or "arms like fins."

As for me, I rather liked Djimon Hounsou's portrayal of Caliban in Julie Taymor's film version (and Helen Mirren was awesome as Prospera).

ALGERNON - I think you misread my post. Suchet didn't say that Caliban *was* a fish-person, but that he wasn't.

TODD> Well, if Hercule Poirot says Caliban is a Fish-Person, who are we to argue?

David Suchet once brought up that the notion of Caliban as a "fish-man" may stem from the line about "fins like arms" from someone who'd at first thought him to be a large fish - and pointed out that it was "fins like arms" rather than "arms like fins".

I've seen one or two depictions of Caliban as looking more ogre-ish, though definitely a land-dweller.

And, yes, modeling Caliban's appearance on the non-European peoples at the receiving end of colonialism wouldn't work so well nowadays, making it more viable to do him as a "fantasy creature".

The first time I saw The Tempest it was the RSC's production in Stratford-upon-Avon, with Patrick Stewart as Prospero. It was a really interesting production. Faithful to the script, of course, but the direction put some very interesting spins on the character. Patrick played up Prospero's age and portrayed him as half senile. Caliban wasn't even really bad, just naïve and immature, treated badly by Prospero, and easily led astray. Ariel was a creepy creature of winter cold who burst into maniacal laughter when Prospero finally set him free... I thought that this version of Ariel could well have cruelly manipulated the events of the entire play just to get that result, and to hell with everyone else.

Modern adaptions of The Tempest do tend to depict Caliban as more explicitly monstrous, attempting to side-step the Unfortunate Implications of identifying him with any of the many MANY human ethnic groups that got screwed over by European Colonialism.

Nobody cares about offending fish-men, especially since the government broke up their lobby in 1927.

I've heard of the "sea monster" take on Caliban, and that's one possibility.

A few Shakespeare scholars have speculated that Shakespeare imagined Caliban, not as a fantastic monster, but as more like the American Indians whom the English had learned about through the recent explorations of the Americas, and who would have certainly seemed exotic to Shakespeare's audience. I don't think Greg would have taken that approach, though.

I always wondered about Caliban. Who would play him, how he would be portrayed, what he would look like. I remember seeing a BBC adaptation where he looked like a half-man half-fish creature.

I'd forgotten about that one. I'd still like to see "Gargoyles" get to incorporate "The Tempest" someday - but at least we got to see it incorporate Falstaff and his gang.

Found this question submitted by Todd a good fifteen years back (though only a mere nine years old when the Stone of Destiny arc finally concluded when Clan-Building: Volume II was released).
