I'm thinking of TRYING to write a Gargoyles fanfic (for my own amusement)and was wondering if you could, please, tell me exactly where in Manhattan Xanatos' tower was located.

The only thing missing from that prospective list is "Conquests of Asgard"; Norse mythology would fit right in with Arthurian legend, Robin Hood, the Carolingian cycle, and Greek mythology.

Todd Jensen> Indeed; I'm pretty sure I would have enjoyed either the Conquests of Charlemagne or the Conquests of the Goddesses. She's quite right that, even in this day and age, an old-school graphic adventure still requires a lot of work and at least a few contributors even as free fan games, to say nothing of actual for-profit productions. I do hope one day she finds a means to produce the other two titles she's considered.

Sorry about the double post, but I just finished reading the interview Brainiac linked to, and the designer mentinoed that she'd thought of doing a third game, had she stayed with Sierra, based on the legends of Charlemagne. Pity that didn't happen; while the Carolingian cycle was as prominent as the Arthurian in the Middle Ages (and might have even gotten an earlier start; a Norman minstrel named Taillefer sang extracts from the Song of Roland at the Battle of Hastings before he was slain, decades before Geoffrey of Monmouth), it's become almost forgotten nowadays. I suspect that, if "Gargoyles" had lasted longer, Greg Weisman would have found some way of bringing Charlemagne and his paladins in somewhere.

I remember when the "Conquests" games came out, though I never played either of them. (I have played two other Arthurian computer games: Infocom's "Arthur: the Quest for Excalibur" - one of its last games - a text adventure about a young Arthur questing to prove his worthiness to draw the sword from the stone, and Virgin's "Spirit of Excalibur", a sequel to the legend in which Arthur's successor, Constantine of Cornwall, sets out to rebuild Arthur's kingdom with what's left of the knights of the Round Table (with such missions as recovering Excalibur and freeing Merlin from his imprisonment).

The Conquests games may not be as well-known as Sierra's various Quest titles, but they're both good works and interesting adaptations of Arthurian and whatever the equivalent term is for Robin Hood (Locksleyan? Robinical?) mythology. However, Longbow's Robin Hood is so visually similar to Oliver Queen in a few images that it can be jarring. At least they didn't make Marian a blonde as well.

Anyways, I'm not sure I'd say $6 each is worthwhile pricing in this day and age, but if they go on sale, I would definitely recommend them to anyone here. The interview with the writer/designer of the games, Christy Marx, is worth taking a look at as well; I've linked it below.

In case anyone else is interested in the old Sierra adventure games, I thought I'd mention that "Conquests of Camelot" and "Conquests of the Longbow" are now available at gog.com.

I never actually got a chance to play Conquests of Camelot until now, but I was surprised at how closely Merlin resembles the Archmage, at least in appearance.

Or maybe I should say, how closely the Archmage resembles Merlin, since Gargoyles came out four or five years after Conquests of Camelot.
