ALGAE - Doyle commented on it "Imagine the state of mind of the joker who took such trouble to accomplish such a result!"
Todd Jensen

GREG B> Tamora is indeed one of the best OC antagonists added to AoG, which is saying something.

TODD> Proving that nerds have ALWAYS been nerds.

Algae
Hey, Adora

ALGAE - [Funnily enough, there was at least one unauthorized Holmes vs. Fantomas crossover, a stage play written in 1914.]

Which would have placed that in Arthur Conan Doyle's lifetime, though I don't know if he ever found out about that. (Doyle once received a hollow piece of billiards chalk from a reader, though, with a note inside saying "From Arsene Lupin to Sherlock Holmes.")

Todd Jensen

While we're talking about AoG, I think I'll discuss Tamora the Goth... I originally created her for TGS, she showed up as as a small character in two stories... her role was going to blow up and get much larger, but season four of TGS never happened.

I created a few OCs for TGS, but none of them stuck with me the way Tamora has... mostly because the TGS version never got to be fully realized. But yes, as you can tell by AoG, and by the Shakespeare character she shares a name with, she was going to become a major villain. I just decided not to drag it out when I stole her from TGS and brought her into AoG with "Sorrows to the Stones".

I believe that the TGS version was from a Persian Clan, which is most definitely NOT the case in AoG, although she wears a Persian dress that was a gift... which was my way of justifying keeping the Shauntell Holm design that I fell in love with... but I'll justify it further as we go.

The only thing Tamora the Goth has in common with TGS Tamora is the name, the design, and that she's a bad guy... but I put her through the prism of the SLG comics, figured that Thailog couldn't possibly be the only member of the Illuminati that's a gargoyle and wound up with the character you're now seeing. The Illuminati's Director of Gargoyle Affairs... rank Four. Any decision made concering gargoyles, the buck stops with her... now imagine all the implications there. Which means somewhere in the Illuminati's archives is a document with her signature on it, a gargoyle's signature, approving of the founding of the Quarrymen.

I'm glad the character is working out at this second chance at life she's receiving and I have enjoyed Chip and Masterdramon's uses of her.

MATTHEW> Funnily enough, there was at least one unauthorized Holmes vs. Fantomas crossover, a stage play written in 1914.

Fantomas is indeed a fascinating character, an early forerunner of the modern supervillain in many respects.

Algae
Hey, Adora

First time I heard of Fantomas was in "The Venture Bros." among other obscure references.

I always thought a crossover story between Fantomas, Sherlock Holmes and Arsene Lupin could be good. Like Fantomas frames Lupin for a particularity hideous crime and the only who can clear his name is Holmes.
Holmes recognizes that while Lupin is an unrepentant thief, he does at least have principles. As opposed to Fantomas who's a complete sociopath who doesn't care who he has to kill or frame in order to achieve his goals, and perhaps his latest goal is to become the new "Napoleon of Crime."

Plus all three are know masters of disguise, that would be pretty interesting in its own way.

D'aaaw! Thanks, MD.

Trawling real world myth, history and literature for weird but cool characters to incorporate is one of the more fun aspects of writing for AoG.

Algae
Hey, Adora

Yup! Everything from Matrix's expo-dump in the first chapter is entirely accurate (at least, to the best of my knowledge).

Of course, I can't take all or even most of the credit. It was actually Dr. Algae who identified the character as the perfect "Bad Guys" villain and constructed a role for him in our 'verse; I just happened to be the first one to find a place to utilize him.

Part of the inspiration was definitely the 2009 radio play, which revealed that The Spectacular Spider-Man's Chameleon was a 35 in the Illuminati. While obviously not canon, we figured it made sense to fill that slot with someone roughly analogous - and Chameleon, like all "master of disguise" supervillains, owes much to the archetype Fantomas helped establish. Going back to the "original source," as it were.

Similarly, while the 2014 radio play's revelation that Vandal Savage is one of the Threes wasn't going to be included wholly as-is, it inspired us to fill that role with one of the identities Vandal has traditionally held in both YJ and regular DC Comics continuity, namely
Tenzin Chung AKA Temujin AKA Genghis Khan
.

Thanks, Masterdramon.

I looked up Fantomas, by the way, and learned he was an actual fictional character from the early 20th century.

Todd Jensen

Thanks for the plug, Greg! And thank you, Adam, for the kind words.

My output for Age of Gargoyles is somewhat less numerous than some of my "learned colleagues" (two complete stories and one that's still halfway done), but I'm very proud of the work all of us have produced in tandem so far. Assassins, which I just wrapped up a week ago, I think is definitely some of my strongest work yet, and is designed specifically to flow into the just-launched Quest - which has been unfolding excellently so far.

Todd Jensen, since I can't respond directly through the FF.Net system since you don't appear to have an account, I'll also use this opportunity to thank you for the reviews you've offered thus far for Assassins. Though I'd be remiss not to say that it's intended to flow out of Gryphinwyrm7's Crystal Cave, The Madness of Merlin, and Prey, and serves to bridge the gap between those stories and Quest.

I believe you've already consumed Crystal Cave, but I would recommend checking out the other two before moving onto Quest. I saw my role in the "Pendragon" segment of our shared universe as, essentially, providing the Act II to his Act I and Act III, and tried to take that responsibility seriously.

Which doesn't change that I'm very grateful to see your thoughts on Griff's fun little death-gauntlet, and am eager for your reactions as it continues to unfold. :)

ADAM> "Was a little disappointed that in the story "Rhapsody", which takes place in 2056, didn't have any new additions to the Manhattan clan (outside of Broadway and Angela's first two kids). I would hope that by 2056, the Manhattan clan would get a few gargoyles who would migrate to the Manhattan clan. Also couldn't help but notice that Brooklyn and Katana did not have a 3 child. Can't help but think there is a story behind that."

Okay, "Rhapsody" was written back in 2009, long before AoG was a gleam in our eyes. I added some AoG touches later, but in my mind there are more gargoyles in the Manhattan Clan in 2056... think of them as being "off camera" or with non-speaking roles. One thing I will say, Amp probably isn't the only London gargoyle to move to Manhattan.

As for Brooklyn and Katana's third egg... well, 1. Gargoyles raise their eggs communally, so the biological connection wouldn't be pointed out, just as Angela has been a clan mother to Tachi since she hatched. And 2. Yes, there is a story behind Brooklyn and Katana's third egg in AoG... it'll be a very long time til we get there, but I know exactly what happened to it and why that gargoyle wasn't part of the clan in 2056. How's that for a tease?

I'm currently working on a fic called "Foxhunt" which is a loose tie-in to "Quest For the Holy Grail" .... and with that title, I think you can guess who heavily features in that one.

ADAM> "I can't help but think there are stories yet to be told. There seems to be a few gaps or mentions of things that happened but there were no stories for them."

This is entirely intentional. Some of these asides are indeed laying pipe for future or potential stories, some are flavor to remind the reader that just because Our Heroes may not be "on camera" in every story, doesn't mean they stop having weird and wacky adventures.

Algae
Hey, Adora

Greg B and everyone who has been working on The Age of Gargoyles fanfic, I have really enjoyed it. Couple of things.

1. Greg B, I have to give you props for your excellent story regarding 9/11. Even after almost 18 years, it is tough for me to reach or watch anything to do with it.

2. I can't help but think there are stories yet to be told. There seems to be a few gaps or mentions of things that happened but there were no stories for them.

3. I loved the adding characters from our own fictional stories. Like Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes characters, and the like.

4. Was a little disappointed that in the story "Rhapsody", which takes place in 2056, didn't have any new additions to the Manhattan clan (outside of Broadway and Angela's first two kids). I would hope that by 2056, the Manhattan clan would get a few gargoyles who would migrate to the Manhattan clan. Also couldn't help but notice that Brooklyn and Katana did not have a 3 child. Can't help but think there is a story behind that.

Any, thanks to all who do this and please keep up the good work.

Adam

Well as long as we're here, I just added another AOG story that kinda spins-off of GryphinWyrm7's Grail Quest Saga...

Heroes of Ulster: Holidays by Dr. Algae

While Rory quests alongside Arthur & Griff for the Holy Grail, Molly and Mr. Dugan settle in for a quiet (if socially awkward) Christmas at the London Clan's estate in Knight's Spur. That is, until their holidays are shattered by a lust-maddened Sídhe seeking the reincarnation of his lost love.

That reminds me, do you think we could get an updated list on the Gargoyle fic universe? I know we had one listed back in February I think, and I'd like to tackle those as soon as I'm done with my latest book.

Haven't posted in a while, but I'm about to recommend two new "Age of Gargoyles" fanfics, after a long hiatus, they're back.

First one, by Masterdramon: Assassins. The Illuminati face a conundrum: King Arthur has foiled their plans at an alarming rate, yet those very plans depend on his survival. How to tackle an enemy you cannot afford to eliminate? Why, by targeting the one who stands at his side. Stranded in Paris and beset by three Assassins, a team-up with the Redemption Squad may be the only way to ensure Sir Griff sees his next sunset. - https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13209546/1/Assassins

Which then leads into...

"The Quest For the Holy Grail" by GryphinWyrm7 - For Hundreds of years, the Illuminati Society has held a stranglehold on the Holy Grail, the most sacred object in Christendom, they have used it's gift of Immortality for their own twisted ends and despicable visions. Two chapters in and "Quest" is off to a great start.

So with less than a month before the SECOND half of the next season of YJ. I think it's about time for a little speculation. I'll use spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
Judging by the the last teaser, Amanda Waller will not only figure out about the Anti-Light done by our heroes but use that to blackmail Kaldur or even use that information as leverage against him and his father.

They won't do a straight adaptation of the Judas Contract because the Light is operating under a "cant kill you, still need you" position with the League and the Team. Instead her job will be to expose the Anti-Light to the members not involved to further destabilize the teams or even break them up. Probably because they'll find it easier to control them when they're not all together.

Alternatively, the Judas Contract will actually be a plot to put Terra as the new ruler of Markovia possibly by assassinating Gregor and using the fact that Terra isn't a known meta by the public as a way of legitimizing it.

M'Comm will attempt to make good on his promise to kill Forager backed up with either more enslaved metas or forces from Apokolips.

If they ever visit Qurac (now Greater Bialya), Halo will start experiencing more of Gabrielle Daou's memories and suffer an extensional crisis.

Silas will attempt to get his son back by connecting with him and screw it up royally because he knows pretty much nothing about him.

And this is optimism on my part but Wally will return but in the future and there we'll see how things have changed since Bart's trip. I know it's unlikely but after reading Heroes in Crisis the guy really needs a break.
Well there's some of mine, anyone else got any?
