Plus, while I haven't listened to the podcast in question, in general making a well-produced, regular podcast is a lot of work. It takes time and effort and energy. If you think what they're doing is so easy, why don't you try it yourself? The fandom could always use more creative or analytic fanworks.

Jordan> Wait...do you not understand that generating publicity is as much a part of Greg's job as anything else?

Seriously, that kind of stuff is his work. Talking to all of us is just something he does because he wants to. The host may be a fan, yes, but he's also a publicity conduit and that matters in an era of social media and sheer volume of choice for entertainment. I wouldn't be the least be surprised if WB/DC set up the connection in the first place making it all official.

So I guess the answer to your crudely-phrased question about making your own podcast is...yes. You want immediate access, make yourself a social media figure of note for Young Justice and things may well get scheduled for you, if you can prove you're worth the business's time. Because in the end, that's the part that's really involved here - the business.

Also, seriously, the attitude will have to go. You won't get anywhere demanding things from WB/DC in the fashion you have around here.

That's precisely the kernel of my question to Greg Weisman: why having a podcast DOES give one single fan special treatment?

Jordan

Thanks for your review, Matthew. It's been so long since I saw "The Spectacular Spider-Man" that I don't recall much about this episode, but I thought you gave a very thoughtful commentary, including the significance of the title.
Todd Jensen

So in a fairly obvious attempt at redirecting the conversation... Watched "Interactions" today, an apt name showcasing not only the positive and negative (heh, electrical pun) interactions Peter goes through with Liz and Electro but also the ones that happen between organisms.

Now biological interactions are generally classified as such: mutualism, commensalism, competition, predation and parasitism. We already saw some competition in the form of the Bugle prize for Spider-Man photos, not to mention a future episode with the same title.

I really liked the introduction to Liz this episode, they kinda show her as a stuck-up queen bee of the school. And yet all it really takes is a smack to her ego and challenging her preconceived notions (she seemed pretty surprised to learn Eddie was moving away from football to science) for her to open and up and start broadening her horizons. And though she walks back from it at the end it does she's got the potential for growth.

Electro is the first of the "created by accident" villains in the series, and while he does blame Connors for his condition when I re-watched the episode it looks like he first got electrocuted because he was wearing standard work gloves rather than non-conductive ones. So while the accident may be tragic, a trained electrician should've known better. I'm glad that they decided to not go with his costume from the comics, because it seriously looks ridiculous. Instead he looks rather inhuman with all the juice he's generating and apparently it's enough to evaporate a gymnasium sized pool. He ends up snapping pretty quickly but that's pretty understandable considering all the crap he goes through. Plus there's gotta be a downside to his sensory input, can you imagine the constant metallic, ozone smell and taste he's probably going through?

My favorite Spider-Man moment was when he was having his phone call while doing a crouched, one-handed handstand, really shows off his uncanny abilities.

Favorite line of the episode:
Dr. Connors: In nature, everything is connected. As scientists, we explore and expand upon those connections, to the benefit of society.

I assumed you were just a bot considering the number of times you spammed the same thing over and over. Now I'll repeat what I said back then, there's no need to be rude about the whole thing.

YOU are the one who started with the inappropriate language, entitled attitude and accusatory question. So you really can't act offended that the rest of us here now longer want to put up with your bad attitude.

Jordan> While I will disagree on responding to insults with another insult, I question the idea of throw the first verbal punch and then taking offense when someone responds with their own verbal punch.

Also, even if purchasing YJ DVDs and Comics did merit some special treatment, what makes you so sure that you're the only on frequenting Ask Greg who did so?

Antiyonder

Wow. So far I've been called petulant, entitled, rude, condescending, obnoxious, and a lonely arsehole who lacks basic reading comprehension skills.

Other than Algae, who seems to be the only decent human being here, this forum is quite the snake pit. And one didn't even have the balls to sign their name. Are all Gargoyles fans such abject cunts?

Jordan

I stated that I would delete your post because it violates the guidelines. The same ones that everyone agrees to when they post a question.

11. Please keep the language clean. This is more or less a PG website. Anything beyond the occasional 'damn' will result in your entire post being DELETED.

12. Rudeness is not appreciated. You don't have to like Greg's stuff. And negative comments are perfectly legitimate and will not be deleted simply for being negative. But that can be done without being rude or abusive. Keep it civil or risk DELETION.

As I suggested in my previous post, you are free to re-submit the question without profanity, and without being rude/abusive. If you do so, I will approve the question. And Greg will answer it - eventually.

If you are too impatient for that solution, then that's your right. But it's also the only one you're going to get.

I myself have privately advised other posters here to just ignore you, for your own benefit as much as anyone else. But no mortal's patience is infinite and even Saints only have so many cheeks to turn.

You strike me as a profoundly lonely individual, trying to use fixation on a tv celebrity as surrogate for a real human relationship. You need to step back and seriously rethink your hobby if it's driving you to these kinds of extremes. For your own sake if no one else's.

JORDAN: Our only desire is that you STOP SPAMMING THIS COMMENT ROOM with a question that GREG IS NEVER GOING TO ANSWER. Period.

It’s you. You’re the asshole. You were the asshole the whole time.
You asked an insulting and condescending question and when you realized that it wasn’t going to be answered, you started leaving it in a forum that Greg almost never frequents. And even if he did come in here, what on earth would ever possibly possess him to answer a rude insulting question from someone who lacks basic reading comprehension skills.

Meanwhile the frequent posters in here have ignored you for months hoping that you’d figure it out on your own, but we should have realized that logic is clearly not your forte.

So, to spell it out one more time: Greg is never going to answer your question. Not unless you read the guidelines and post it in the queue and be polite about it, and wait your damn turn.

TL; DR: You’re an idiot who can’t read, stop spamming this forum, Greg will NEVER answer you here.

"You're not wrong, Walter, you're just an asshole."

Yes, it sucks that Ask Greg has such a long queue, and in particular I wish that one person would stop asking every permutation of "What did Garfield/Miss Martian do about X and how did Y feel about it?" But your spamming this board isn't going to help matters. If you really wanted to help, you could volunteer to join MasterDramon in clearing out the bogus questions, though I doubt anyone would trust your judgment after the way you've acted. As for this podcast, I've never listened to it so I don't know, but I guess I see why it'd be annoying if it seems like people have "jumped the line" to Greg. But he can take whatever path he sees as best to promote the show, and he's not required to only talk to fans through a system set up nearly twenty years ago. So if you started your own podcast, would he talk to you? Maybe, if he thought it was interesting or could be good publicity. But he wouldn't be required to do that either, and how much merch you buy does not factor into the decision.

"As a loyal fan, I feel they owe me."
"Owe you, what could they possibly owe you? They've given you hundreds of hours of entertainment for nothing, if anything you owe them!"

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Oh Good Lord.

Jordan, are you sincerely contending that until Greg answers every single question in the queue, he isn't "allowed" to exchange texts/emails with anyone?

Now, I know nothing about this podcast host you've got such a weirdly intense bugbear with. But presumably, in order to arrange things logistically, they must have exchanged private correspondence. And in the course of doing so, it seems that... *SHOCK* *GASP* The horror! They found they...got along!

Seriously, stop ascribing some weird sinisterness to the whole affair. Ultimately, it sounds like they're now friends, and Greg is perfectly at liberty to text whatever the heck he wants to his friends. It's not your business, it's not my business.

Now, does it suck that the backlog on Ask Greg is still so long, despite my recent efforts? Of course it does. But that's really a separate issue. Your ire is really better directed at all the junk clogging up the queue which violates the guidelines and, therefore, will be deleted long before it ever sees Greg - which, incidentally, includes your own post.

And on the subject of what you feel your money spent on YJ "entitles" you to...you do get that Greg doesn't have to answer questions on this site at all, right? You do understand that this site is virtually unique in the direct line it provides to a creator, without being limited to specified time periods and with the promise that every question (that meets the specified guidelines) will get answered in time, even if it takes a while?

There's a reason virtually no other creator provides this kind of access, outside of tightly controlled singular events like con panels or Reddit AMAs. Yet Greg continues to do it out of a sincere affection for his fans, at no direct benefit to himself. Often alongside a more-than-full-time job, creating the very works you appear (from your spending habits and obvious...zeal, however misplaced) to love.

Providing this platform, however, in no way limits (or should limit) what he does with his personal life. Cuz that's...y'know, personal. I guarantee that every creator of every work you've ever enjoyed has friends they privately discuss those works with. Is that somehow a betrayal of all that creator's Twitter followers? The moment they become slightly famous, must every person who writes a book or creates a show never ever mention it over dinner, lest their friend or family member or business partner or whomever learn a single iota of information about the fictional world that isn't publicly available?

Now, if you want to refashion your post so that it doesn't violate Guidelines #11 and 12, and re-submit it through the queue, then go right ahead. He'll answer it, eventually. Does it suck that you'll have to wait a while? Sure it does. But that's the way the cookie crumbles.

But your continuing to spam it in this Comment Room serves absolutely no purpose, save for annoying every regular here. He's under no obligation to answer you in this forum and he's not going to.

You may think you're on some righteous crusade to expose some insidious "double standard," but all you're doing is shouting in the wind.

And looking like a fool.

JORDAN> They're not entitled. That's just something Greg decided to give them for whatever reason. Maybe he thinks it's good publicity for the show. Maybe he just likes them. I bought all YJ comics and DVDs released so far. I subscribed to DCU via VPN because I'm a UK resident (so that's two monthly fees) and yet I have to wait years to get my AskGreg questions answered while some ass-kissing sycophant gets emails and text messages from Greg and Brandon. My spent hard-earned money says I'm entitled to at least an explanation of this double standard.

Hi Mr. Weisman. I have a question for you:

I don't know if you are aware, but in the "Early Warning" episode of Whelmed: The Young Justice Files the host quoted you on something you told him in conversation. This is something that used to happen now and then, but lately it happens in almost every episode: "Greg texted me this", "Brandon emailed me that", "Greg/Brandon told me whatever", etc.

So, looking at your 2-year-5-month-and-16-day backlog of 1204 questions, I'm wondering: why are you giving BTS information to this one person while the rest of your fanbase has to submit questions and wait months (at least) or YEARS (worst case and more likely scenario) for an answer???? It must be really cool to be so intimate and chummy with one's idol, and I bet the host feels super important and validated, but this is some double standard bullshit!

Are you aware of this? And if you are, how can you be okay with it? Don't you think this is unfair? You have thousands of fans who support your work whichever way they can, but 99.9% of them have never even met you in person, let alone exchanged emails or text messages with you.

If I make an entire podcast dedicated to kissing your asses, will I earn the same privileges? Will I be able to ask all my questions without a waiting queue? Will I get to hang out with you, have lunch together or exchange personal contacts?

(Originally I posted this on AskGreg, but then I decided I shouldn't have to wait 2 years for an answer, for all the reasons above.)

Jordan

Masterdramon & Jordan: That and the insane entitlement complex. I mean, why on God’s Green Earth would you think that being insulting and rude week after week would ever get you any kind of answer? Greg Weisman doesn’t owe you anything, Jordan. He can do whatever he wants and doesn’t need to justify himself to you.

Masterdramon: Let me also chime in with my appreciation for what you do for the queue, your work will never be thankless as long as I’m around.

Todd: Ah, gee shucks. Am still happy to do it. And I have nothing but the highest respect for all the hard work you've put into this site in the years before I joined.

Mind, despite my relative fount of DC knowledge, I would contend that the majority of such cases wind up amounting to much the same thing in the end, as most questions "referencing something in the comics" invariably end up being spoiler requests.

"Will Superman die fighting Doomsday and subsequently resurrect himself using stored-up solar energy?" is technically not an original idea, but would so obviously receive no response apart from "SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT" that I'd wind up deleting it regardless.

Jordan: I'm tempted to be snarky and point out that there are in no way 2000 questions in the queue as of now. Only...1200! That's a difference of 40%, and you can take that to the bank.

An object lesson of why you should never mindlessly spam the same tired, pointless, petulant rant 2-3 times a week over the course of three months, without checking to make sure the conditions undergirding that rant still hold true across that period.

Well, I mean...one of the reasons. ;)

You'll have to give Masterdramon all the credit; I've left the question-approving to him for the past few years. So many of the questions in the queue were "Young Justice" ones, and I don't know enough about DC Comics to be able to tell the difference between an original idea disguised as a question and a reference to something that happened in the comics, so I had to leave the task to those far more familiar with the subject than I am.
Todd Jensen

Phoenician/Algae: Appreciate the kind words, folks!

I knew that I was tremendously behind on processing through the queue (and still am, albeit less so)...this was a lot easier a time commitment when I didn't have a full-time job and bills to pay, ha ha.

Thankfully, the holiday season provided me a few uninterrupted days where I could attack the backlog in earnest. There's still a fair amount of work still to be done, but 1200+ unanswered questions is a durn fairer sight than 1800+ (the majority of deletions being endlessly repeated questions from Our Favorite Gar-Obsessed Spammer).

Anonymous: I'll take care of it next time I have the chance, but keep in mind that the way Ask Greg works is there's no way to skip to a particular question to approve/delete. If your post is the 216th approved question, I must individually click through 215 previous ones in order to do so.

So I'll try to get to it, but since I'm back to said full-time job as of last week, I can't promise it'll be soon. For now, since Greg hasn't actively answered any questions since October, 'tis not really hurting anybody.

Thanks, I had to leave out a lot as well, like how they made the Flatiron Building into the Daily Bugle like in the Raimi films or the meaning behind the title "Survival of the Fittest."

MATTHEW - Thanks for the review. My memories of "The Spectacular Spider-Man" are a bit dim, but I thought you did a good summing up of that episode.
Todd Jensen

Are we counting spam? Whatever, Decima!

Watched "Survival of the Fittest" today. A good first episode has to not only hook the audience but provide the setup for future episodes too, including character dynamics and potential plot points. And we pretty much nearly every important setting and character for the season. Like Midtown High, The Daily Bugle, ESU and Oscorp. Kinda amazing that the show doesn't feel crammed.

There's a lot of little things I had forgotten about this episode, like we get hints of Aunt May's baking ability (she not only gives Peter a banana cream pie at the end of the episode but also pound cake for his lunch), Peter accidentally offering the wrong hand during his handshake with Dr. Connors and the little flinch Harry and Peter give when Norman calls them outside. We already know that the relationship between father and son is tense but for his own friend? Sounds like the two of them had an incident when they were younger.

I was trying to understand how Toomes never had any successes to his name considering he managed to build some pretty impressive machinery that not only provides lift and propulsion but is fairly quiet and energy efficient. Then I remembered that it's an advanced form of Maglev, which is something that's never taken off here in the US like it has in Europe or Japan. It makes sense that something like that would be too cost-effective and corporations hoping for something that leaned closer to quantity rather than quality wouldn't want to touch it. To say nothing of Osborn wanting just a close enough look at the designs to rip them off. Gotta love his expression when he kicks Toomes out, that's the face that says he's turned screwing over contractors into an art form.

I got to say they chose the right adversaries for the first episode, Ox and Fancy Dan are stronger than the average street thug Spidey's used to fighting and Vulture has that aerial superiority that forces Spidey to think outside the box.
Favorite quote of the episode:
"Not Toomes now, I'm what you called me! I'm the Vulture!"
"I called you a buzzard!"
"What?"
"You can't even get the name right."

Lust, Gluttony, Envy, Greed, Wrath, Sloth, Pride.

Since it's on Disney+ and I'm learning french I've been checking out more of the french version of the show, and like most Parisian dubs, it's REALLY strong. Xanatos is so delightful, and for some reason they decided Macbeth should just have the manliest voice of all time.

Some of the acting choices are really interesting, for example, in English I'd say Jeff Bennett often plays Owen almost like he's inhuman, or a robot or something. While in French, the actor just plays him like he's this really straight-forward smooth talking guy. It's not better or worse or anything, just such an interesting way to interpret the character.

The actor who plays Goliath plays him like he's super monstrous and beastly. (Whereas I'd say Keith David really only flirts with this idea) But when he played Thailog he decided he had to make his voice sound even darker and more foreboding than Goliath's, so Thailog winds up sounding a bit absurd. Whereas I think Keith David played Thailog much more smoothly, almost like he was adopting some of Jonathan Frakes's mannerisms as Xanatos.

Also french actors have a lot of trouble with yelling and showing strong emotions for some reason. I assume this is a cultural thing, as they're very, very strong at showing subtlety and it's such an efficiently designed language if they need to sound smooth they can just sound so smooth.

As far as I can tell; the script is almost word for word the same. My french isn't really good enough to understand if this works or not, though. Some of the spell rhymes sound a bit weak to my untrained ear.

Anyway, it's a really cool experience, if anyone was looking for a new way to enjoy the show. Just turn on the english subtitles and listen to some (slightly) different interpretations of the characters.

Hi. Awhile ago I posted this on the questions page:

Hi. This is not a question. This is a comment about the literally hundreds of posts about Miss Martian and especially Beast Boy on this site. I understand that I am not the owner or moderator of this site, so I understand, Greg, if you feel the need to tell me off for my presumption.

There is one person posting these questions under hundreds of different pseudonyms. Yes, it is one person. I refuse to believe that the Garfield Logan fan club has descended upon this site. To make matters worse, the vast majority of these questions are variations on one, two, or three different themes. How did the team react to learning Miss Martians would outlive them? When did Garfield start living at Mount Justice?

To the poster of these questions: this is incredibly annoying. It's great you are such a huge fan of Young Justice and of the Beast Boy and Miss Martian relationship. As a fan, I understand what it is like to become preoccupied and even obsessed with some aspect of a show that may not be important to the main story. I also get the impression English is not your first language, but there is no country on Earth that this is not considered rude and inconsiderate behavior! Maybe you should try writing some fan-fiction as an outlet for your particular enthusiasm. You could write a series of vignettes of every single character in the Young Justice universe reacting to the news that M'Gann will outlive him or her.

Now I know I'm going to get a Weisman lambasting. Yes, I know it is not my place to write this letter. I know I have no right to elevate myself as a spokesperson for all the fans that frequent this site, and knowing that I did it anyways. Let the snark commence!

Could you please delete this? I am now embarrassed that I did this. I was in a bad mood and this Beast Boy guy irritates me. I now see it was not my place to make this post.
