Hi Mr. Weisman. I have a question for you:

I don't know if you are aware, but in the "Early Warning" episode of Whelmed: The Young Justice Files (back in Oct. 2019) the host quoted you on something you told him in conversation. This is something that used to happen now and then, but lately it happens in almost every episode: "Greg texted me this", "Brandon emailed me that", "Greg/Brandon told me whatever", etc.

So, looking at your 2-year-4-month-and-26-day backlog of 1222 questions, I'm wondering: why are you giving BTS information to this one person while the rest of your fanbase has to submit questions and wait months (at least) or YEARS (worst case and more likely scenario) for an answer???? It must be really cool to be so intimate and chummy with one's idol, and I bet the host feels super important and validated, but this is some double standard bullshit!

Are you aware of this? And if you are, how can you be okay with it? Don't you think this is unfair? You have thousands of fans who support your work whichever way they can, but 99.9% of them have never even met you in person, let alone exchanged emails or text messages with you.

If I make an entire podcast dedicated to kissing your asses, will I earn the same privileges? Will I be able to ask all my questions without a waiting queue? Will I get to hang out with you, have lunch together or exchange personal contacts?

(Originally I posted this on AskGreg, but then I decided I shouldn't have to wait 2 years for an answer, for all the reasons above.)

I just found this website. Let alone the chat room. And I have to say this is amazing that there's still such a fanbase for this amazing show. :D I came here to read fanfiction..but you guys are actually debating the show. That's awesome! It's been years since I've seen it.

I think is seems more likely than not that Gargoyles will come back, as Disney is looking to add new content for their streaming service. Do you have any concerns with Disney brining back Gargoyles for a proper season 3? I have a couple. One is them not brining back Greg to do it and/or too much interference from corporate. I also have concerns about how the voice actors will sound 25 years later. James Earl Jones is iconic for both Darth Vader and Mufasa, but he sounded pretty old when he voiced them again in recent years.

I guess I would prefer Gargoyles to come back in comic book form, but comics seems to be a dying industry.

Ever wondered what would happen if Demona and Elisa were fused together into one entity if so, this is the story for you -

MATTHEW - Thanks for your latest review. The part I most remember from this episode is Octavius screaming "I've been good!", which you mentioned; I thought that moment really captured his terror and panic well (both the line and the way his voice actor delivered it).

Watched "Reaction" today, the opening when Spidey stops the car thieves reminds me of the mandate Sony gave Greg when making the show, that he had to include references to the Raimi movies. I like that he not only put them in organically but that he was able to put his own little spin on them, instead of fighting Doc Ock on an L Train he fights the Lizard in a subway tunnel and so on. Gotta love the moment Spider-Man plays matchmaker, I really wanted to see that couple show up in season 3.

Speaking of relationships, this episode really showcases the relationships between the characters. While I know this may not be everyone's cup of tea, I am reminded that it could be a whole lot worse, especially if you've ever watched a CW show. We see the growing attraction between Liz and Pete and the first signs to them being a couple and we get a better look into Mary Jane and how she treats relationships as more like friendly flings rather than anything serious. Still she is pretty socially conscious and whether she was one of the factors that led to Flash and Liz breaking up, it's pretty clear that it wasn't intentional. In fact there was probably a lot of different factors that led to their breakup.

Our villain of the episode brings the long awaited debut of Doctor Octopus, some see this as a total 180 in terms of personality from his previous appearances as a stuttering, toady. But I've been reading up on Freud and his theory on the Id (essentially the baser parts of our personality that drive the life and death instincts). It's important to remember that while he was being cowed into making super-mercenaries for Osborn his objections weren't from a moral standpoint but a practical one. He feared the experiments blowing back onto him, he feared Spider-Man tracing them back to him, and he feared Osborn. That little imagination spot where Otto violently lashes out is probably something he imagined every time he was insulted and degraded, but then reality would set in and he'd go back to being intimidated by him. Interesting fact: in the comics Otto came from an abusive background which may explain his more timid personality here, heck his cry of "I've...been...good!" right before the Van de Graaff generators go off may be a case of of his trauma resurfacing.

Going back to the Id, it's been argued that it not only drives the wants of the individual but the need to better one's self and is essential to survival. Otto surviving the accident could be seen as him embracing one's Id and thus embracing the part of himself that he denied for so long. Him surviving his brush with death meant he no longer had to fear Osborn or Spider-Man or anyone else for that matter. He no longer had to hide his genius or his more violent side and look what happened; he's no full of confidence, he no longer stutters in his speech and based on future episodes fully embraces his role as a leader and mastermind.

We really get to see why Dr. Octopus holds the position as one of Spider-Man's arch-nemeses (poor guy has at least three); he's not only incredibly bright but also adapts to villainy rather well, very intuitive (he sees through Spider-Man's ploy with ease), and his experience with his arms allows him to multi-task easily and hive him a great deal of reach in a fight. Showing off his intuitive ability, the first time he fights it's with all four arms but later in that same fight he starts using them as a form of locomotion in order to keep pace with Spidey's natural agility, then later was quick to utilize Spider-Man's need to protect the innocent in order to get the edge. In fact the biggest reason he lost was due to his inexperience in a fight and that if you're going to take a moment to be vulnerable then you should probably find a place to be safe just in case the hero's playing possum. Plus the reality that behind those extra appendages and genius brain Otto's still just a regular squishy human.

It's funny that Norman began his path to villainy when the Vulture threatened to kill him and now Otto turns into a super villain after Norman tries to kill him and gave him his nom de guerre at the same time. You might say villainy begets villainy. While it's obvious that Norman's trying to cut off loose ends by trying to kill Otto an unexpected benefit is that he's now given himself deniability. If Otto ever tried to connect Osborn to organized crime and the creation of Sandman and Rhino, no one would believe the guy calling himself Doctor Octopus and planning world domination. I also like that the scene Hammerhead putting the pressure on Osborn near the end, you can see the wheels turning in Osborn's head as he plans to off Hammerhead along with Tombstone and Spider-Man next episode.

Some final things: we really get to see the negative side to Harry's addiction as his body shows obvious withdrawal signs without Globulin Green and Gwen seems to be the only paying attention to how much he's changed. It's interesting to see that Otto developed the arms while working with Tri Corp but could keep them when working with Oscorp. But seriously, fully functioning mechanical arms and a battery that can sustain a charge for years at a time? You really have to wonder about his company contracts and what he is and isn't allowed to use because the stuff he makes regularly approaches revolutionary. We also get to see Flash's fanboy for the first time, which is honestly one of his few redeeming features when he was young, nice to know he eventually got to be a hero himself in the comics, albeit a an anti-hero. Plus, Spidey gets to web swing with all three of his love interests in one episode? There's a reason this show got the nickname (ahem) "******* Love Spider-Man the Animated Series.

Favorite Lines:
Spider-Man: Look, Doc, have you thought this through? The next Spider-Man who finds you under a pile of debris might view this as a cautionary tale.
Doc Octopus: (while repeatedly slamming Spidey around) Glib! Does not! Equate! With clever! Spider-Man!
Spider-Man: Yeah, well, the ratio of arms-to-sanity hasn't exactly been established either.
Doc Octopus: Do you ever SHUT UP?!?
Spider-Man: Sorry, no. My fans expect a certain amount of quippage in every battle.

Dr. Octopus: Hand over the device you pathetic, four-limbed excuse for a spider.
(gets hit with a candy apple)
Spider-Man: Oh you sweet-talker you.

Broadway as extremely hostile towards Demona offers more room to explore his character. He's been the gentlest and most easy-going of the trio. His "feud" has been more towards guns than other characters (he's not too fond of Dracon, but doesn't show signs of letting it get at him in the manner of Lexington's feud with the Pack or Brooklyn's with Demona). (Though we did get to see a taste of Broadway as really angry in "Deadly Force" when he's confronting the mugger in the park.)

(For that matter, note Broadway's behavior in "Future Tense". Brooklyn was bitter about Goliath's long absence, and we get hints that Lexington was bitter about it as well, and that that was one reason why he turned into a villain. But Broadway is simply glad to have Goliath back, and had never given up hoping that he'd return.)

So Broadway getting really angry at Demona would certainly offer room for more character exploration.

Todd Jensen

The end of the Timedancer arc was going to change a lot of the character relationships, Brooklyn's now closer to Goliath's age than the rest of the Trio and would probably be going through a "stranger in a familiar land" mindset for probably years to come. His family would have to take time to properly integrate into 90's New York. I remember a discussion we had a while ago about how his children would adapt, while Tachi would be raised in the traditional gargoyle community way, Nashville might have a harder time adjusting due to the fact that we don't know the full extent to which he was raised. There's a good chance that the closest thing to a clan he's experienced would be his mother, father, still unhatched baby sister and Fu-Dog so having to treat a bunch of strangers as family could be a new and awkward experience for him. And that's not even getting into how the clan is going to deal with the new additions.

Still I like the idea of the animosity towards Demona shifting from one character to another and Broadway would be one of the most likely candidates considering his anger when a loved one is threatened or hurt can even match Goliath's.

BISHANSKY - [Broadway's anger towards Demona is blinding him]

I almost immediately thought of "Future Tense" when I read that part, though I'm assuming you didn't have that in mind when you chose that particular word.

Todd Jensen

I think I'll start a conversation... with Brooklyn back from forty years of TimeDancing, Greg has indicated that he's let go of his old hatred for Demona. Obviously, the Demona of present day is still a threat that needs to be dealt with, so he'd still try to stop her, but it's not the same thing.

But if anyone in the clan really starts to despise Demona, I have a feeling it's going to be Broadway. I'm not making the evil mother-in-law joke here at all. But I have a feeling Demona is going to hurt Angela... a lot. Not in the physically abusive way, more in the breaking her daughter's heart way. And it's going to happen more than once. More than twice. And considering how much Broadway loves Angela, and I speak from experience... watching someone you care about get repeatedly hurt doesn't do much to endear the one that hurts them to you.

I can even see this leading to drama between Broadway and Angela... not enough to break them up, but Broadway wanting Angela to give up on Demona so she won't be hurt. This is the sort of thing couples can and do fight about. Will Broadway get more aggressive against Demona in battle? I don't see Angela berating him for it, she knows what Demona is and that she needs to be stopped... but I could see her getting angry that Broadway's anger towards Demona is blinding him and could get him killed.

I know we're not supposed to feed the trolls, but I do have to wonder why you think this is a faster way to get an answer. After all, you've been posting this same rant multiple times a week for over three months, and as far as I know Greg Weisman doesn't even know you exist. Do we have to keep dealing with this for another year and nine months before you give up and find something better to do with your time?
