I know nothing of the subcontinent's agricultural scene, nor indeed of thorough board game documentation.

Anyone here from India and in need of a tractor?

This might be our oddest spam yet.

Off-topic, but when will the "Gargoyles" Awakening Board Game get its own entry at GargWiki?

Funnily enough, I was going to write a bit on Young Justice's return today. Peacemaker ends next week so the Thursday slot will be open again.
Nice to see Orion show up proper rather than being portrayed by a xenophobic, would-be mass murderer. Though I pity the poor fool yelling "HE'S THE SPAWN OF DARKSEID", that's kind of a sore subject for him.

Xebel is an interesting point, I'm not sure if they're going be separate prison dimension like in the comics or another city-state like Tritonis or Nanauve.
Nifty. So let's see...
We have a bunch of magicky types standing around in a circle- that'll be them trying to see if they can find Connor's soul again, presumably before they realize it's not what they expect to find.

Looks like we can confirm Kaldur's arc involves Xebel-rebels. Okay. Also it looks like Rocket is going to be palling around with Orion and the New Gods- I can't make out who's yelling "HE'S THE SPAWN OF DARKSEID" but it sounds like someone doesn't trust Orion.

Uh... all I've got for now.
So, some guesses, in no particular order, basically shots in the dark:
• Dick's plotline will pick up the 'we have to magically find Conner' thread, and will either tie that in with Jason or leave Jason for next season.
• Halo is going to be featured in Rocket's arc, but we don't see her in the trailer because (as with Kaldur and M'gann in the early s3 promotional materials) she has a fancy new costume, with either more New Genesian motifs or a closer adherence to Islamic modesty codes (which I remember was a sticking point before) or both
• The 'the people are in open rebellion' voiceover line is not actually from the Atlantis subplot
• However the Atlantis subplot will deal with an incursion by Xebel where we find out why exactly Atlantis has mandatory military service for preteens
• The mysterious new magic user with sea snake icons is Mera's sister, and the shark Kaldur attacks is either Nanaue (this seems less likely as he seemed to be a sort of belligerent friend before) or a relative throwing Nanauve's lot in with Xebel
• This isn't really a theory, but that 'I don't want to be needed' line from Gar sounded like it had a hitch in the middle, so it might be two different lines spliced together
• We get to meet Scott Free! I hope. Mostly because I really want to see him.
InCryptid by Seanan McGuire? That's still being published, and it only started coming out in 2012. Heck, there's a new one scheduled for release next month.

Jurgan- ha, you remind me of an old (not that old) book series called InCryptid. It had the heroes protecting hidden creatures from deranged fundamentalists and their main enemy was a creationist group that believed all "unnatural" beings were chosen by God to die because they weren't on the Ark or somesuch.

Then they down to the pub with the Quarrymen and maybe van Helsing's less pleasant relatives and have a drink perhaps.

Just finished up my review for the latest DC animated movie Catwoman: Hunted, which you can check out here: https://mattthemediahunter.home.blog/2022/02/08/new-in-review-catwoman-hunted/

Ordinarily I don't cover the direct to video scene, but this was written by Greg, so I had to check it out.

On a similar note, I thought a while back about the creation narrative and how it would be different for gargoyles. Specifically, the moment when God brings every animal in front of Adam and asks him to name them. With a gargoyle, it'd be like "I don't know, it's a crawly thing with eight legs, call it whatever you want."

MATTHEW - [I can only imagine if the prejudices hadn't gone away some of those gargoyles might've been saddled with names like Haman, Jezebel or Salome.]

Maybe not those particular names - they were all Biblical villains, yes, but mundane ones, and I suspect that humans prejudiced against gargoyles would prefer names with a more demonic atmosphere. (The Biblical Goliath was a giant, and giants were often imagined as human-demon hybrids.)

Of course, when we got another gargoyle named after a familiar Biblical villain in the series, she was named by a fellow-gargoyle (and a corrupt one at that).

I actually have no idea if Greg intended this kind of symmetry, but it's worth nothing that in Islam it is believed that God created three "races": humans from earth, magical 'djinn' from fire, and of course angels.

Given the parallels some characters draw in-universe between angels and gargoyles, and djinn (what Anglo types are content to call Genies) do arguably overlap with tales of fairy folk in other popular mythologies, it's entirely possible Muslims in the Gargoyles universe will soon have abundant reason to feel very vindicated with regards to that bit of folklore.

MASTERDRAMON - Those debates would certainly be worth seeing. Of course, given that a lot of humans in the Gargoyles Universe don't recognize the gargoyles as intelligent, the theologians might have simply assumed that they were only beasts, and so didn't count. I suspect that many of them would have believed them to be demonic creatures.

Goliath finding out more about the Biblical story that inspired his name would have also been worth seeing, by the way. I doubt that Castle Wyvern would have allowed him access to any copies of the Bible it had, so he might have had to rely on finding out about it from those humans willing to speak to him (like the Captain of the Guard) instead. (Though if he had gotten to read a Bible in the tenth century, I can see the astonishment from human onlookers. The more superstitious would be wondering how he didn't disappear in a cloud of brimstone from coming into contact with a holy book. Others would be astonished that that beast was actually reading - then proceed to dismiss it as "He's just looking at the pictures" - a Bible in that setting would probably have a lot of illustrations, like the Book of Kells.)

Todd Jensen

It's funny thinking about the naming of Goliath and the unintended impact it had on the Avalon Clan. While they have the warrior theme going with their names the attitude the humans once had has distinctly shifted. Previously, Katharine is quick to remind court that Goliath is named after a brutal invader. But now the descendants are named Gabriel, Angela, Raphael, Michael etc., no longer the villains from Biblical tale but the Holy protectors of humanity.

I can only imagine if the prejudices hadn't gone away some of those gargoyles might've been saddled with names like Haman, Jezebel or Salome.

How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop? Let's find out! One, two, three...

Todd: It does make me wonder about in-universe biblical scholarship, particularly in antiquity when the existence of gargoyles was well-known and unquestioned. Out-of-universe, we know that gargoyles came into being before humanity, but surely this is something that would cause dispute between religious scholars, given the general stance in Abrahamic religions that humans are unique creations; directly crafted in God's image. The pre-existence of an equally intelligent, decidedly non-human species throws a wrench in that worldview.

Surely there must be in-universe debate over whether gargoyles truly were created/evolved/what have you before humans, or whether they are some aberration that invaded the world later.

A thought I recently had about Goliath's name. We know, of course, that the humans of Castle Wyvern named him after the villainous giant in the Bible who was defeated by David, as a sign of how they viewed gargoyles - naming one after a malevolent figure (though who was also a formidable warrior). But the original Goliath wasn't just a hostile giant warrior. He and his fellow Philistines were also the invaders, with the Israelites facing them in the story of David and Goliath being the defenders.

Our Goliath is the opposite. He and his fellow gargoyles were the ones who'd lived at the castle all along, even before the humans came there and built it, and who continued to protect it as their home after it became a human habitation as well as a gargoyle habitation. The counterpart to the Biblical Goliath and his fellow Philistines were the outside enemies like Hakon and his Vikings who attacked Castle Wyvern.

Which would have given Goliath, once he became acquainted with that Biblical story, an additional reason to question the humans giving him that name (though he's clearly still accepted it).
