Just noticed the auto-correct didn't leave Weisman unchanged.

Auto-Corrct. I think it apt to refer to it as a political tool.

Antiyonder

Well if Welshman does check out some of the other properties, one reference I think would be easy is for Amphibia:
As I mentioned before, you could just have some of the clan or anyone mentioning an interest in Suspicion Island where everyone is suspicious.XD
Antiyonder

I've got the trades myself, but it'll be great to know that others will get to read them.

While the news was a big surprise to me, looking back on it, we might have been getting prepared for it - the NECA action figures, the board game, the "Gargoyles" allusions in "Duck Tales" and "Amphibia", Lexington's cameo in "Sidekicks". (I wonder whether a lot of it may be due to "Gargoyes" doing well on Disney+.)

Todd Jensen

Also plan to get Paramount + eventually.

Definitely looking forward to Beavis and Butthead Do the Universe. Oh and Zahra Fazal according to the cast list voices "Butt-Head Fantasy Woman #1".

Antiyonder

Now is there anything about a collection of the Disney Adventures stuff?
Antiyonder

Awesome sauce, I didn't even hear about the SLG comics until they were out of print so this is my chance to get them.

Getting the trades anyway. My brother gave me some money back in the day when the SLG single issues were still out, but passed on the books.

So I'll give him the old trades, and see if he wants the Marvel issues. If not, then likely a library donation.

Antiyonder

Good, I'll be able to read those SLG comics again, since I've been afraid to take the originals out of the plastic wrap I've kept them in for the last ten years or so.

Greg says he’s been told they’re reprinting the SLG comics too: https://twitter.com/greg_weisman/status/1551008504680312833?s=21&t=IArSQuOlkQQxP665KVZylA

From Dynamite's own press release, "The new comics, facsimiles, and graphic novels are scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of 2022."

Looking like it might all-the-above before the year ends. Which is very exciting. :--)

I guess we're very lucky to have gotten the trade paperbacks when they came out.

From Masterdramon's link: "The first of Dynamite's Gargoyles books will be released in the fourth quarter of 2022."

Dynamite already has a lot of October releases in Diamond Previews, so we might get release news or even a cover within a couple months. I wonder if we'll get a Marvel re-release or new material this year. I'm also wondering how available the SLG material is to Disney. I checked my trade paperback and it says Gargoyles TM and copyright Disney and not SLG. But I remember years ago Dan Vado said he had a right to republish the SLG comics and wanted to do an omnibus. All the SLG comics are so expensive and inaccessible now it would be nice for all fans to be able to read them. I know I'm going to do another re-watch/re-read before this comes out.

Landon - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter Feed]

Well I'm elated by this totally unexpected news! With any luck, Gargoyles can have a rich life in comics with multiple spinoffs like the Buffyverse has had.

Checked Landon's link, and, yes, Greg Weisman really is writing the new comics - he's even started on the first issue. Great news indeed.
Todd Jensen

I thought at first that it'd be just a reprint of the Marvel comics and maybe the SLG ones, but new material does sound good. (The description suggested that Greg would be offering advice but not directly writing the new material - presumably too busy with "Young Justice" - assuming there'll be a fifth season - to write it himself.) But that is impressive news.
Todd Jensen

I had to double check to make sure this wasn’t a prank, I’ve been burned before. We’re actually getting new stories? Nice!
Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

B> Thanks. I remember watching Black Sails, kept wishing it would lean harder into its Robert Louis Stevenson influences rather than trying to make it historical (because it wasn't exactly doing all that well in that regard.)

And that's some amazing news! A full season's worth of new comics? I am beyond elated.

With the news coming about Dynamite Entertainment, I have so many questions. First and foremost, is this going to be a continuation from the SLG comics.

But, from the article Masterdrama posted, it looks like we won't have to wait all that long to get something to read.

Adam

And to think the NECA news this week already had me over the Moon!

We Live Again, folks!!

Beat me to it, Masterdramon! I had to come to S8 after seeing the news. It’s interesting that they’re reprinting the Marvel run first. Maybe due to the Disney/Marvel merger. Huge news!

Todd Jensen> Cool!

Matthew> That's funny, I was looking for Pirates of the Caribbean news yesterday and thinking about how the crown's own policies created their pirate problem. Black Sails was also an interesting look at that era, too bad the characters were Doomed By Canon.

GargWiki came out with some updates about the NECA action figures. Broadway's accessories will include a turkey leg, a big bag of popcorn (the one from "Deadly Force"?), and the rookery moss he was eating in "Awakening Part One" (it definitely shows how familiar they are with the series to pick that), and Lexington's the remote control for his toy car from "The Edge". They also announced action figures for Angela and Xanatos (two for Xanatos, actually - one in his regular clothes, one in his red gargoyle armor). Angela's accessories will include the remains of the egg she hatched from and her "hatchling" self (shown in the "Avalon Part Three" flashback).
Todd Jensen

B> Now that you mention it, Lorwyn/Shadowmoor was another influence, one that I had forgotten.

In a similar vein, the Pirate Islands were inspired by the Ixalan setting as well as the islands of the Caribbean/Polynesia with a heavy emphasis on the Age of Sail and the Golden Age of Piracy.

"I made the decision to make it the only world that didn't have any indigenous humans, instead have it populated with elves, dwarves, gnomes, halflings, goblins and firbolg."

I don't know if you're familiar with Magic: The Gathering, but you might like the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor expansions, then. No native humans on that plane, all fey creatures, and its nature shifts from sunny Lorwyn to dark Shadowmoor (or vice versa) with the passing of every Great Aurora.

I've been checking the Latest Responses from Greg to see how close he is to getting to my question (which was submitted early on in Kaldur's arc).

But given that the questions are dealing with the end of Zatanna's arc and the fallout with Mary and there was that hiatus between the two halves of the season, it should still be awhile.

Matthew

Presumably scaring them enough away that they don't do what it is that makes gargoyles dislike them - at least, not to the gargoyle waterspouts.
Todd Jensen

Ah, the Archipelago of Past Years. Or maybe Marvel's 2015 Secret Wars.

I'm passing through Croatia now and I've seen a couple waterspout gargoyles in the city square. By all indications they help scare pigeons away as well.

Pay no attention to the astigmatism behind the sunglasses

A little piece of gargoyle trivia.

A few years ago, I read a small book on gargoyles - mostly architectural gargoyles, though they included a few paragraphs on the Disney series. It stated that the purpose of "true architectural gargoyles" (the ones that act as waterspouts; non-waterspout gargoyles are technically called "grotesques") is to pour rainwater out through their mouths to direct it away from the buildings they're mounted on, so that it won't strike the building and damage it. Even "grotesque" gargoyles serve a similar function, since the rain ounces off them in such a way that it doesn't directly strike their buildings as well.

There's something pleasant about the fact that even in real life, gargoyles protect - if in a different way than the ones in the series.

Todd Jensen

When I was mapping out what I wanted for this setting I was looking at certain authors for inspiration; I settled on Tolkien, George R. R. Martin and Brian Jacques.

I think I had something along the lines of the fall of the Targaryen Dynasty when I came up with that.

Matthew

As I've mentioned before, Oberon's overthrow of Queen Mab reminds me of the concept found in many mythologies of the "overthrow of the old gods" (the Titans in Greek mythology, Tiamat in Babylonian mythology, etc.), so you might have precedents even beyond that - though making the deposed rulers "fay" does match the toppling of Mab in particular.
Todd Jensen

Second

So for about a year and a half I've been working on a D&D fantasy setting. Long story short, it's about chunks of other worlds being ripped from their home plane and used to populate another, barren world. As such you've got your Arabian Nights setting, Cowboy Land, Pirate Islands, Steampunk City etc.

While I was working on the designated, Medieval UK-inspired land, I made the decision to make it the only world that didn't have any indigenous humans, instead have it populated with elves, dwarves, gnomes, halflings, goblins and firbolg. I also decided that for part of the world's backstory that their political climate is partly shaped by the fact that ages ago, the populace rose up and overthrew the Arch-Fey rulers, who were known for being cruel and capricious.

It was just two days ago that I realized that I was partly inspired by Oberon overthrowing Mab for control of Avalon and the Third Race.
