"My daughter?! How dare you mock me! I have no daughter." - Demona, 1996

One further thought about possible symmetry in "Demona".
We know that in #4, Demona and Angelika are reunited with a gargoyle named Magni whom Angelika was in love with. The meeting takes place in Constantinople, which we know they visit in #2. From this (and the fact that his name is Norse), I suspect that Magni is one of the gargoyles sailing with Sigurd Magnusson in #2, who presumably stayed in Constantinople. In which case, Magni would appear in both #2 (the second from the beginning) and #4 (the second from the end).
Todd>
Yes, I like that the Hunter (presumably) will bookend this story. And I also like that Katana, who I guess hatched in 1258, is nearly the same age as Angelika was when Demona met her. It provides a nice parallel between Clan Ishimura and the Northumbria Clan. Except, it is great that we will end with a clan that proves that living close to or among humans isn't destined for destruction.

I suspect that Katana and Demona will have some very interesting interactions here. I look forward to that and finding out what drove them to head so far East. Also, some of the covers for #5, particularly the ones with butterflies, remind me of a Wind Ceremony. Will Demona finally perform one? Another interesting tidbit is that Angelika had a mate who has died. That implies that she had eggs as well. Where were those eggs raised? Among the Ishimura Clan perhaps? How wild would it be if Angelika was Katana's biological grandmother?! Not that anyone would know or care. And while Demona is concerned with Angelika's mortality, it should be noted that she is nearing 200 years old (right up there with Old Pog). Considering the timeframe, I'm amazed she is living so long.
We have a lot to look forward to over the next few (hopefully!) months.

Sorry about that; I somehow inserted the period in the first "SPOILER" bracket, and didn't notice it until it was too late.

A couple more thoughts on what we now know about "Demona" #5.

[SPOILER.] 1. The solicitation mentioned "the Clan of the Rising Sun". Although we've known about gargoyles in Japan for almost thirty years, this appears to be the first time the "Rising Sun" is mentioned in connection with them, which stands out, of course, in light of what the rising sun would mean for gargoyles. (And which gives new meaning to the timing of Taro's press conference....)

2. I wonder whether the gargoyle-hunters in this issue (who will presumably be responsible for Angelika's death) are Canmores (who made it all the way from Scotland to Japan in just two centuries - of course, so have Demona and Angelika) or not. It would certainly make a great piece of symmetry with "Demona" #1 if they are.
So I've been out of the loop and didn't realize they'd released Demona #1.
I found this a much stronger read than most of Quest. The story was a lot simpler and the pacing was a lot easier to digest.

Demona is really the best protagonist in the whole show, honestly. I think she's just so compelling and her conflicts are always so dynamic and interesting. The story also really reframes her a bit, this is really the only time a Gargoyle clan was massacred and Demona was involved but it actually wasn't her fault. Other than creating Canmore I guess? But I mean... he wanted revenge because Demona & MacBeth dethroned his father and they were totally justified in doing that, so I don't think that counts.

This whole story really does a good job reframing Demona honestly. It puts into a space where she can be a little more heroic, a little more driven to do right, but she doesn't lose any of the qualities that make her cool.

I think there was a bit TOO much time spent on detailing the historical stuff, it doesn't add that much to the story and it's a lot of names to remember. I kinda wish we'd spent a bit more time with Donald Canmore and gotten to know him a little more. Him picking up the mask and it just being like "this is why there's still Hunter Canmores in 1994" feels a bit... underwhelming? There's just so little to it.

But everything else worked so well I don't really mind.

Looking forward to more.
We just got the solicitation for "Demona" #5,
and it confirms our suspicions that: a) it's set in Japan, and b) it features Katana.
MATT - [Also, I was excited to see that Gargoyles is getting its own panel at San Diego Comic Con. That has to be a great sign, right?]

I wonder whether the news of the upcoming crossover helped there.
The cover of that issue, by the way, has a pre-"Timedancer" Brooklyn on it. Another case of "Never trust a cover", I suppose?
Finally picked up my physical copy of Demona 1 yesterday! Even after reading it on my phone a bunch of times, it was a joy to look at. Frank's art is even better full sized! Makes me think how excited I am to see the SLG books in full size. I have only seen them in digest size for 10+ years or ever.

Everyone shared some really great articles this week—lots of interesting insights and useful info. I enjoyed reading through them! https://rdmedicalproducts.com/breacher-hydrogel-tape/]

Great!

I haven't received my Demona #1 physical copies yet, but I do see that they're in transit. Hurray! And we've also got lots more info on the Fantastic Four crossover, particularly on the Marvel end.

For those who aren't aware, Disney+ launched a new stream called "Throwbacks," which is a curated streaming channel on the app showing animated series from the 1990s and 2000s. I checked in a few times this evening and saw episodes of Little Mermaid, Bonkers, Darkwing, and Recess playing. "Reawakening" is playing right now.

Craig

One thing that interests me
is how Greg is going to write Tony Stark. The character has had so many different ups and downs and interpretations of the years that there's not exactly a "consistency" that other famous Marvel characters have. If I have to guess, I'm leaning towards his characterization in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes but I could be wrong.

And building off of that, I'm curious if will see an interaction between Tony and Xanatos. Depending on how Stark is written, they could be quite different or a little too similar for their own good.
MATTHEW - Thanks for sharing that with us (I've a fondness for looking up historical events connected with each day of the year myself).
Shakespeare's play on Richard II, as I've mentioned elsewhere, may have finally gotten a nod in "Gargoyles" through the "hollow crown" bit in "Demona" #1.
And GargWiki's just released a bit more information about the upcoming "Gargoyles"/"Fantastic Four" crossover,
including that apparently Xanatos and Tony Stark will be crossing paths in it. As a side-note, I wonder whether in that crossover, we could have the Fantastic Four, after meeting Goliath, suggesting that he have a "G" on his belt-buckle as a parallel to the "4" on their uniforms, a suggestion that Goliath immediately turns down. Those who've listened to the most recent "Voices from the Eyrie" podcast will be able to tell what inspired that creativity demon.
Don't have much to say except I'm also looking forward to the next issue.

I like to look up interesting historical events of the day and was surprised to find that today was when Richard II took the throne back in 1377. Richard of course was immortalized (not necessarily fairly) in Shakespeare's play.

MATT - Yes, I'm really looking forward to that one, especially after reading up on the historical background for it.

Truly.

And I'm hopeful that Demona #2 keeps it's release date and comes out a mere two weeks later!
