Does Thailog have more respect for Brentwood now then he did originally? If so, is it due to Brentwood's chosing Thailog over the others, or due to something else?

Greg responds...

I'll leave the answers to all these questions to your interpretations.

Hello, Greg.

I just got Issue #6 of the comic this week, and I liked the story and the artwork overall. It's great that we learn about this "lost" chapter in the Avalon World Tour, and that Angela had the chance to meet Coldstone...I liked how she surmised that he must be Gabriel's biological father. Anyway, another really good issue of the "Clan Building" storyline, and I look forward to both Issue #7 and the first issue of "Bad Guys".

That having been said, I also want to say Thank You for keeping us fans informed and "in the loop" by telling us about the work being done on the comics...and yes, that includes the printing errors that occur. I certainly appreciate the fact that you feel the need to share such info with us so that we're not left "in the dark" so to speak. Having been an employee in a printing shop for the past 3 years, I can very much sympathize with your situation regarding the production errors in Issue #6, as I have seen how easily mistakes can be made in the process of printing multiple-page items like booklets, ad journals, newsletters, etc. So printing a comic book can't be all that different. Of course, that's why I've learned how important proofs and mock-ups are in the printing process.

So, again, you have my complete understanding and empathy on that front. Good luck with all the upcoming comics...I will certainly continue to purchase them no matter what.

Greg responds...

Thank you.

I'm sure you're sick and tired of the very mention anymore of season 2 volume 2 of Gargoyles, but I thought I'd pitch an idea out that maybe you could propose.

Instead of making loads of copies, I thought maybe Disney could try just releasing volume 2 in a limited quantity, either making it exclusive to certain stores or simply make it exclusive to Amazon.com or even their own website store. If they went the website route they could test the waters and make a limit of maybe 500 copies to start off (maybe alittle less depending on how many they would want to make to try it out).

Again, I know you're tired of fans asking about this and throwing suggestions out (if any have), and I'm sorry if mentioning this annoys or angers you, but I just thought it might be one way to get it out. What do you think?

Greg responds...

I'm not annoyed or angry, but I'm afraid I have to tell you that your suggestion isn't big on the common sense. There are no economics of scale when you only make a few copies. It costs more per copy of DVD this way, which would mean it's (a) not worth their trouble and (b) the cost of purchasing an individual copy of the DVD would be prohibitive for all but our wealthiest fans.

Greg, I am A huge fan of both W.I.T.C.H. and Gargolyes, the best shows on TV. I'm glad they are at least runing reruns of them both, and I hope that'll continue for a long time. I am also a huge fan of Disney World, een going at least once a year since I was 3. Do you belive that there will ever be any continuation of either seires on TV? and even if not I want to thank you for you work on two incredible shows.

WITCH continues on in comics, and now Gargoyles does too.

June 24th

We missed open story reading because Dad had some shopping he wanted to get done. But because I'm SUCH a good daughter, I didn't complain. The fact that he bribed me with a chocolate milkshake didn't hurt either. Pigeon Forge is like one huge, open-air mall; it's amazing what they can cram into three miles of land.

Dad and I got back in time for the Gargoyles Physiology and Culture Open Discussion. I think that may have been my dad's favorite part, he was impressed how much thought went into the scientific and cultural aspect of the characters. I was particually intrested in gargoyle customs, but by the end, I also was convinced the common ansestor of gargoyles and gargbeasts must have been pretty creepy looking. I like creepy.

I think I was hyperventilating when the Bad Guys Panel came up. The animated preview was fun to watch because we could hear the actors' voices again. We didn't get to learn a whole lot, but we were really pumped up. I think that was the point.
By the way, I will be rooting so hard for Yama.

At the banquet, there was some REALLY good food and a table full of nice people to talk to. I was the youngest person stting there, but I kept up pretty well. Most of the questions that came up I hadn't even thought of. Greg had to remind the guests at a point that it was not a 'blue' Q&A, by the adults who were laughing I guessed I had learned a new term. Anyway, we had a lot of fun and I was saddened when Dad and I had to leave early to go back to the cabin. I doubt I'll be able to make it to Chicago, but if I can, I will!

Greg responds...

Creepy is in the eye of the beholder, I think.

We do hope to see you again!

I have a few more questions I'm wondering about the Children of Oberon. I'm trying not to ask too many at one time.

1. a. The Children of Oberon are shapeshifters, able to appear any way they want, right? So I'm wondering, why did Odin always have one eye in "Eye of the Storm" (before he got it back) in all forms? The obvious/immediate answer is that in the myths he's one-eyed, so he had to be one-eyed in the show, but what is the reason for that in the Gargoyles Universe? After giving an eye to Mimir, was Odin unable to change shape into a form with two (or more) eyes, or did he just chose not to (that we saw)?
b. In the myths of some cultures (like the Norse) gods can lose body parts, but in some other cultures the myths say gods can't be permanently injured. Is it possible for Children of Oberon to permanently lose body parts (um, until they find them again and reattach them like Odin did), or be injured seriously enough to leave permanent scars? I've gotten the impression they are not flesh and blood -- even when Oberon was stabbed with the iron harpoon, he didn't bleed.

2. a. In the past when asked if the Third Race need food you answered "Yes, depending on their chosen form."
When a Child of Oberon is not in a truly mortal form, does he or she need food? (By "truly mortal form" I mean a mortal flesh-and-blood body like Owen, not just a shape that looks like a human or gargoyle.)
b. When a Child of Oberon is not in a truly mortal form, does he or she need to breathe?

3. When a Child of Oberon takes on a completely mortal body and mates with a mortal of the appropriate species, the offspring is a "halfling." But what happens if two Children of Oberon both take mortal forms of the same species, and then have kids together? What would their offspring be?

And thank you again for answering our questions! It's really great to have this website.

Greg responds...

1a. The exchange itself created a mystic restriction.

1b. Rules that cannot be broken can be bent, but they can't be broken. But they can be bent. But not broken. (Get the idea.)

2a. Yes, but I'm not defining what food is for them.

2b. Yes, but I'm not defining what they breathe.

3. Confused?

In "Possession", Puck said soul transference required voluntary cooperation to work. I have questions about what constitutes 'voluntary' cooperation for enabling soul transferance to work:

1)In the case of a man having a gun to his head and told if he doesn't cooperate with soul transference, he would die, would the soul transference work?

2)In the case of a man seeing his family/people that he care about on a tv with a gun pointed to head(s) and told if he doesn't cooperate with soul transference, one person/people will die, would the soul transference work?

3)In the case of man who believes that either he or somebody who cares about will die without actual proof if he doesn't cooperate, would the soul transference work?

Thank you for taking the time to respond to this question.

Greetings!

I'm wondering what the word (if any) is on the season two volume two DVDs? Also, why I saw someone selling issue 6 of the comic book on eBay the other day & SLG doesn't show it on their site.

Thanks~!

F-C

Greg responds...

There's no new word on the DVDs.

Perhaps the reason SLG doesn't have #6 on its site is because it's reprinting the issue. But I'm not sure.

Just finished reading issue #6 of the Clan Building comic series. I'm sure this has been said by many gargoyle fans out there but THANKS for reviving the series through comics! Its so awesome there are really no words for me to describe it! Reading through issues 1-6 is like watching the episodes all over again. They all come to life much like the animation. Some comments on Issue #6 though. I noticed this one doesn't have a title (it wasn't printed anywhere). Was this an error? Also, it looks like there were two pages that are identical but different captions (one page where it starts off with Coldstone saying "BROTHER", and the other starts off with Coldstone saying "...I'd like that!). Is this intentional?

Greg,
I am currently re watching all the Gargoyles shows, I grew up watching this show and it is right along the lines of Transformers and G.I.Joe. Considering the story line of the show and what other comic books and cartoons are doing, making this a live action movie would be awesome. With the way movie techology is you could totally pull this off, and it could possibly run a series like Harry Potter movies. So what would the chances of this actally happening?

Dear Greg, a quote from your answer to a question about songs in S is for Self episode is as "...but I don't know how to put it online. And I'm not even sure if I have a copy." (takes a deep breath) Chances you have the songs, I'm dying to show you how to put it online (technically, of course, since I cannot convince Disney, the copyright holder of the material, to publish it under certain extents). And please, if anyone (inc. you, any collegues you worked with, Disney, SIP, anyone!) has them and there won't be any infringements which may hold anyone into trouble, I'm eventually totally OK with buying it through Disney's Stores or iTunes, etc. for about many "tens of bucks" (could have paid billions for sure if I had any) in case a free offer is unavailable. Thanks in advance.

Greg responds...

Again, I don't have a copy of the finished song. I have a demo, which I wouldn't want to put out there, and I think I have the vocals without music and/or with demo music -- and again, not wild about the idea of work product being out there when the final version isn't available, because then the work product becomes the de facto final product and that doesn't do justice to any of the hard effort put into it.

And ALL THAT is truly secondary to the fact that I don't feel comfortable putting something that DISNEY owns up on line. Seems very illegal to me.

And of course, I don't know how anyway.

In "Hunter's Moon Part Two", when the Canmores are debating whether or not to attack the clock tower, Robyn Canmore explains that they can't simply go in and smash the gargoyles in their stone sleep during the daytime, because they might have learned from Demona how to become human during the day. The Hunters then talk uneasily about how the gargoyles could turn into humans and there'd be no way of telling what they really are then.

I realized this evening, when I remembered that scene, how this echoes the nature of the Hunters themselves. Because they wear those hooded masks to conceal their true identities, it's similarly almost impossible to tell that they're Hunters in their everyday lives; even Elisa never realizes that her new partner is one of the Hunters until she unhoods him at the start of Part Three. Since you've mentioned before about how one of the keys to making a great antagonist is to give him or her qualities that echo the nature of the protagonist - was the Hunters' discussion about how the gargoyles, if they could take on human form, could blend in with the human population without being recognized, intended as a means of reflecting their own double identities?

Greg responds...

Generally, yes. More specifically it was about me trying to build John Castaway (long term) into the anti-Demona or another Demona or however you want to put it. Which is the mask? The Quarryman hood or the slicked back hair and mustache?

Hi Greg

I help run an animation society at my university (it's in the UK so I can't organised a trip to the gathering and charge it to the Uni :( ) and I've just started showing the first season Gargoyles and everyone's loving it. I'm making a few new fans and rekindling some old ones.

I've also just got some brilliant news; my local comic show is getting in the 'Bad Guys' comics (unfortunately they can't get the main Gargoyles book for some reason). So I'll try to get as many people reading that book as I can.

So I have two questions for you:

1) Is there anything about the first season, or the show in general, that you'd like to mention to new fans just getting into it?

2) Since we can't feasibly watch all of the second season is there any episodes from that season that you'd recommend we watch? Bear in mind I've already got plans to show 'The Mirror' and 'City Of Stone 1-4' once we've finished watching season 1.

Have a good day.

Greg responds...

First off -- I gotta say it just makes NO sense that a shop that can carry Bad Guys wouldn't also have access to Gargoyles itself. So really, I'd question that big time.

1. Nope. Just enjoy. I think the show stands up pretty well on its own. And then if they are curious and want MORE info, they can always come here or to the S8 comment room, etc.

2. Well, frankly, I'd start with the beginning of the season and go through as many episodes as you can in order. It doesn't seem useful to watch 'em out of order... and I like 'em all. Plus that might encourage some dvd sales, when people want more.

Here's the 2nd half of my ramble on the Gargoyles comic book #5.

Gargoyles: Clan-Building
Part Five: Bash

Part 2 Pages 13-24

Page 13: This is where we get to know more about Quincy Hemings (nice name; is it anyone you know or did you make it up?) and why he is meeting Xanatos. I like how he and Xanatos "shoot the breeze" while talking about past presidents that Quincy has known. Then Xanatos is given an envelope containing his first real assignment for the Illuminati. What will it be? Well, I don't really know… I guess we'll find out in another comic book, 'cause we don't find out in this one.

Page 14: Brandon mumbling to himself. Why doesn't that surprise me? He seems the type to go around mumbling about his problems and what he wishes he might have said in certain situations. It's a good thing he went by that window, or else he might not have seen that Goliath needed medical attention. I wonder how it worked when he was trying to find a doctor. Did he already know Dr. Sato was a doctor, or did he just rush into the party and start yelling out for a doctor? If he did that, I think there would be more people outside with Dr. Sato when he shows up to help Goliath, since people would be curious as to who was injured. So does that mean that Brandon knows the doctor (personally)? Oh, and I really like the big shot here, getting to see all the gargoyles fighting from up above.

Page 15: Hudson and Bronx finally show up. Would Thailog have come back at a later date if they hadn't shown up, seeing as he's collecting everyone's blood? I like Thailog's line (he has a lot of good lines in this comic) when he says, "Please, Hudson. You now I am the party!" Go Bronx! Way to try to take out the main bad guy, like you usually do.

Page 16: Now what is Delilah doing in one of Xanatos' laboratory rooms? I find this very odd. I have no clue as to why she'd be down there, except that maybe Owen told her to wait there. But I really don't think that could be the reason. So this question will haunt me until I figure it out… or until I go to the next page and forget about it. But still. Her DNA is partly from Demona. And that worries me just a little bit…

Page 17: More fighting, until Delilah shows up. Now I am wondering, had Thailog planned to go to the castle to take the gargoyles' blood right after he took his clones, or was it because Delilah was there that he decided to move his plans forward and attack that night, too? Well, whatever it was, he got what he came for. I guess that's all that matters.

Page 18: Wow, Delilah has really started to think more for herself. And she's coming along nicely with her speaking. The other clones still speak poorly, like they did in "Reckoning", but she has improved a lot. And I'm very glad that she stood up to the gargoyles, letting them know that she wasn't going to be used any more.

Page 19: And after Delilah stands up to the gargoyles, she stands up to Thailog too. She's on a roll! And I'm glad she included the other clones in the decision as well. I really like her character a lot more now that she has her "free will" worked out.

Page 20: Okay, I laughed so hard when I read Lexington's line, "Dude, you're really making me look bad." And Brentwood's expression when Lex says this to him is great too. Of course Goliath has his few inspiring words to the villain before he leaves, and Thailog has a great exit line before he goes, as usual.

Page 21: Entering now is Dr. Sato. Elisa is really giving out the orders now. And Dr. Sato is mystified, not knowing if he can help a gargoyle (and I'm not talking about the sense that he doesn't want to help him 'cause he's a gargoyle, but the fact that he doesn't know how to help since he's never worked on a gargoyle before; guess that never came up in doctor classes at his school).

Page 22: Owen is as calm as ever. Goliath and Elisa finally have their "I love you" moment. It wasn't that big of a moment for me, as some of the other moments in the comic were, but it was nice to see that there is hope for their relationship yet. I had a feeling that Elisa would show her true feelings once she saw Goliath in his current condition. And then, this was the 2nd big laugh I got out of this comic, Brooklyn's line after he sees Broadway and Angela holding hands and his clone with Delilah, "Oh, you gotta be kiddin' me…" Poor guy. But still, a really funny line, nonetheless.

Page 23: Okay, all those buildings look pretty normal, and then we see this huge, elaborate one on the corner of the block. What would be funny is if Thailog was really in the normal looking building next to the great looking one, with Sevarius complaining about why they couldn't have the great looking one. Anyways, here we finally find out what the real reason was for Thailog going to the castle and confronting Goliath and his clan. He was after their blood. One can only imagine what Thailog and Sevarius have planned for their DNA. Those two make a really scary pair of villains. And who are we about to add to this mix? Why, who other than…

Page 24: …Shari! So that's the mystery girl's name. So did she know Thailog's plan all along, and that's why she was down in the Labyrinth? Have we finally found someone who can play one of the ultimate players (Thailog) in the Gargoyle's universe? Perhaps. I suppose we'll find out later on in the comics. It's interesting to find out that they are both Illuminate. I wasn't all too surprised to find out Thailog was part of the society, but it was interesting to find out Shari is. I have to say that I just watched the Radio Play of this comic on You Tube, and the reaction from the crowd when they find out that these two characters were Illuminate was great. Everyone seemed surprised, which it's nice to get surprises every now and again. And I also have to say that I really liked the Radio Play performance. Everyone did great jobs, and I hope that the Radio Plays will continue to be put on You Tube from future Gatherings. It was a real treat to watch, seeing as I couldn't be there.

Well, there's the ramble. I'm glad I finally got to write it. I think that this comic has been my favorite one so far since the comics have come out. Thanks for doing such a great job on all of them.

Thank you for your time and all that you do.
