I am sorry greg that I am writing to you again but I just wanted if you could put back the gargoyles video clips back
on your website
First off, this isn't my website. Station 8 belongs to Gorebash. He's generously created this sub-site for me to answer your questions.
I don't know anything about the video clips, so you should address that question to him -- assuming it isn't moot 18 months after you asked it.
Just checking to make sure this is working.
I'm reprinting this.... and yes, I know that the questions I'm currently answering were all posted LONG before the first time I posted this. But since I cleared the room, I wanted to repost his message so that people keep it square in mind when posting NEW questions....
So maybe it's me...
But lately I've been feeling like people are popping in to ASK GREG with the deliberate intent of catching me in a mistake or inconsistency. Like they are trying to trip me [or the series] up.
If not, my apologies.
But if so... CUT IT OUT, OKAY!!!!
It's just not much fun for me.
And before anyone else gets personally paranoid, this isn't directed at any one person. I've just had this general sense that somehow this is the new contest here. Who can make Greg look stupid. Believe me guys, I don't need much help in that department.
If you have a legitimate question you're curious about, then ask away. But if you're just posting to make me look foolish and/or to prove that the show wasn't perfect... well, how 'bout I just acknowledge both things here and now, and we let that drop.
I've been trying to answer questions here at ASK GREG pretty consistently for the last few weeks.
I'm guessing that the "Latest Response Page" is starting to get pretty unmanagable.
So I've cleared it, despite the fact that I've added to it as recently as yesterday.
So if you missed anything recent, please check the following archive:
RESPONSES 2001-9 (Sept)
That'll only give you questions and rambles from this month.
I just read through the entire ASK GREG FAQ. WOW!!!!!
JEB and GXB!!! THANKS GUYS!!!!
1. In 2198 there are only twelve clans. Queen Florence is added later. Paris, later still.
2. "Hobgoblin of Little Minds" and "The Weird Macbeth" (formerly "Puck's Macbeth") were two different story ideas. The one described in the FAQ is "The Weird Macbeth". So far, I have given no details on "Hobgoblin".
3. There have been at least six writers (that I know of) on the Live Action Gargoyles movie.
4. I never worked on the Disney Tarzan Animated series. I was offered a job on it, but I was busy voice directing 3x3 Eyes at the time, so I had to pass.
But given all that information, I'm amazed that there's so little for me to correct. Again, thank you. (Now, let's hope people look at it.)
okay something very weird just happened. I was answering a question that Matt posted about the 'chameleon gene'. Then suddenly, the question just changed. My answer (which I was in the process of writing) remained , but there was now a new question listed above it.....
Hmmmm.... Okay, I think Gore just re-activated the question answering function while I was typing and we had a little glitch here. Matt's question was lost. I'll try to recreate it a bit...
1. Matt wrote something like, "I know you're not a biologist, but how does this chameleon gene' work."
2. Matt thought gargoyles were the sources of various legends, but does the chameleon gene cause gargoyles to look like legendary characters.
3. He asked whether the gene would start changing the looks of familiar clans over time. Or something like that.
4. He stated that he had his own theories as to heredity, etc. And he challenged me to 'sell' him on my chameleon gene theory.
5. He had at least a fifth part to the question (maybe more) but I didn't even get the chance to read it.
My answers to his original question; not to the paraphrased versions above. (Man, this is a mess.)
1. I have no idea. It was just a random thought.
2. No. Definitely not. You're first thought was correct.
3. Natural Mutations (not the Sevarius kind) are likely to occur. They occur to some degree in all species. I was simply positing (and only positing) that Gargoyles might have a gene that causes mutations to occur more frequently. But mostly, garg appearance is defined by heredity.
4. I don't have to sell you on anything. For starters, I'm not sure I've sold myself on it. Second, I'm under no obligation to compete with your personal beliefs. Third, if it isn't in the 66 -- I'm not guaranteeing it. Even some of that is suspect. Sevarius theorized that gargs absorb solar energy while stone. But that was just a theory. He may have been right. He may have been wrong. He may have been partially right. Or he may have been lying intentionally. See?
Since you asked me about the FAQ page in your latest batch of question:
Well, I still think that it's a good idea, but unfortunately, I'm not technically skilled enough to be able to actually set one up. By which I mean that I could help with the writing of the FAQs, but the technical work of adding that page to "Ask Greg" and the link to it is something that I don't know how to do. That would lie more in Gorebash's area (particularly since "Ask Greg" is on his site). Maybe I'd better speak with him about it.
Okay. I'm up for it. It couldn't hurt.
Tomorrow (or today I guess -- July 31st, 2001), I'm going on vacation for a week. Don't know whether or not I'll have internet access, so I don't know whether or not I'll be able to answer any more Ask Greg questions while I'm away. This is the trip that I was supposed to take in June, but didn't because I got pneumonia.
Later this month, I'm taking another week off (it helps to have no job). And that's another week when I don't know if I'll be able to answer questions.
In between, I'm job-hunting and novel-writing and still trying to have a life and answer ASK GREG questions all at the same time.
And everytime I start to get close to catching up, you guys FLOOD this place with more questions.
So here's what's going on. FLOOD AWAY. Today. Because the question posting function at ASK GREG is going on vacation for the entire month of August. I'll still answer questions when I can. And on September 1st, Gorebash will promptly turn the question posting function back on. Todd will review the questions and send them to my queue.
But for August, we're on question posting hiatus. Vacation. So relax. There's plenty of questions already posted to keep me busy. Plus you have just under 24 hours to post those last minute questions that you just can't wait on.
And we will be back one short month from now. Enjoy your summer. See you soon.
And thanks, as always, for your continued support of the show.
I noticed that Greg has been receiving the same questions over and over again and I'm certain he's getting tired of answering them all the time. So, to save him as well as us time & trouble, why don't who ever manages the archive to create a "FAQ Archive" and put the FAQ with best answers in it.
just a suggestion
A nice suggestion. But easier said than done. And time consuming. Todd's been talking about that though. Todd, any further thoughts? Gore?
I noticed in your disclaimer that there's a spelling mistake in the word Television, where it's supposed to say: "...copyrighted by Buena Visa Television" you accidentally wrote television as "televiion". Just thought I'd make you aware of this.
Thank you. I'm again going to lay that one on Gore. (Though it's possible it was me.) Again, I've been aware of the typos for awhile. But I don't have any means of fixing them.
Greg, I was reading you're welcome letter and I noticed a mistake in it...you said you were the creator and producer Gargoyles, but you misspelled producer, you have "produser". Just thought you should know.
Thanks. I noticed that long ago -- but I don't know how to fix it. I also don't think I mispelled it (though it's certainly possible). Gore, was that me or you?
OK, this is nothing, but why is the server's time on my last message read 6:29, when it is 10:00 here? It has always usually been accurate to my clock in previous posts. Even if there's a time zone differential, it's a half-hour ahead.
Man, are you askin' the wrong guy.
Gore, you out there?
(Didn't think so.)
I've been wondering recently if it might not be a bad idea to put up an "Ask Greg" FAQ page on this site. It's struck me for a while now that you seem to be getting many of the same questions over and over (such as the whole business of why you left after Season Two or if "Gargoyles" will ever get brought back), and this page could be a good way of dealing with that. What do you think?
I'm all for it. But how do we build it?
matt told me that the garg off to the right on the latest responses page (holding the surfboard) is of Brooklyn, which I sort of can make out better now (considering that I first thought that it was your drawing of your garg-self when I first found this site). Anyways, what is the deal with the thing on his shirt?
(Stupid question, I'm expecting a smart-ass response to this)
No smart ass answer. No answer at all, actually. I didn't design the site. Gorebash did. You'd have to ask him.
I thought I'd never get through the February 2001 questions.
Hey, an anonymous contest entry! YIKES!
To the moon, Todd!
Greg, about what Titania whispered to Fox: you know what she said, right? so if we just started asking you "Did Titania say:......." it wouldn't be considered submiting ideas, right?
Yes. It would.
The fact that I know already, changes nothing. I can't prove that I know already.
And if one of you should guess right, than that person could get pissed if he or she thinks I stole the line.
Not that I mind separate posts for separate topics, but doesn't that amount to more questions, take up more of your time, and ultimately make the privilege you offer us harder to make possible?
(Not to mention that a few of us look especially answer-hungry? :)
It doesn't significantly take up any more time. The time is spent answering questions, not clicking on posts.
And having separate topics on the same post, creates numerous problems.
1. makes for exhaustingly long answers.
2. And difficulty in archiving.
3. Hard to fit questions on my screen.
4. Hard to just sit down and answer a couple questions when I have a spare moment.
Greg, who is "matt"? Do you know him personally? "matt", if you're reading this, why do ask Greg so many questions? I hate to be the backseat driver here, but must you require a logical explanation for everything? Mr. Spock would think so, but geez man...
Oh, yes, and Gorebash, I know you will read this...I might be the only person just to ask how do you handle all these questions? You must be damn good at your job! Keep up the good work. I hope this gets posted. (Elvis has left the building...)
I don't know matt personally. But he's entitled to ask as many questions as he wants. I'm entitled to dodge as many as I feel like. Why?
Gorebash, I believe, has largely turned over the responsibility of reviewing questions to Todd Jensen. Todd does a great job at keeping up. Better than me.
I'm sorry to put this on this page instead of sending it directly to Gore- but I figure other people should be aaware of this. I have been getting tons of SPAM for a while- and this is really the only place my e-addy is to be found on the web. I think a SPAM bot has been having a field day here. Since I have no intention of stopping to ask questions here, and I think leaving my address so people can return comment is in a way a curtesy, I am going to replace the @ with a ! so it wont flag the bot. I suggest anyone else having problems to the same. Gore- if this is not an easy search and replace algorithym please ignore this suggestion, but would it be possible to do that throughout the archives as well?
Greg, I am sorry not to actually be asking you anything- but that would be two topics in one e-mail:)
This isn't really a question.. but I wanted to inform you that there's a typo on your intro in the first page.. it says "produser," when it's "producer," or "producers"..
You fixed this on the Questions Answered page.. but apparently forgot this one. :P
Man! I finally got that off my chest.. it's been driving me nuts! :P
Well, thank you for your time. :)
Thanks. Unfortunately, I can't correct it. Could you e-mail Gorebash and let him know?
The queue is again empty.
But this time, I don't think Todd has fallen behind. I think finally, after, what, three years, I have caught up. Completely, totally, caught up.
I know it won't last. Won't even last a day, probably. But let me revel in the moment.
I'm caught up. I'm caught up. YES!
Just updated the queue again; sorry about that. I guess that I underestimated your speed at going through the questions.
Just call me Speedy. Or Kid Flash. Whatever.
Does this mean I'm finally, finally all caught up?
Or does it mean that Todd is slipping?
I'll leave that to you to decide.
You said: <<I thought I'd never get through "June 27"! Were you guys having a contest of your own that day to see how many questions you could post? >>
LOL! No. It's just that it was that day when i happened to have enough time to repost all those lost questions - so posts of a whole week or so ended up compressed in a single day... :-)
Yeah. I knew that. I was just whining.
Phew... and that's all with the reposting business, unless Lexy or Exolex tell me otherwise.
[Makes bow and exits]
There's nothing in the queue. I've got another hour and twenty minutes to kill and there's nothing left in the queue. ARGGGHHH!!!
Gore, Todd, help!!!!!
Simple test ramble. Appears that things aren't working.
