We could see Artemis' second name, Lian, engraved at her tombstone in the episode "Satisfaction".

Dear Mr. Weisman,

As a deeply devoted fan of your work I have to say that I believe Young Justice is your best show yet! The changes you made in the D.C. comics Universe-16 that differ from the mainstream continuity of D.C. comics make sense and honestly, D.C. should let you write for them A LOT MORE OFTEN! In my humble, admittedly bias, opinion:)

I especially love the down-to-earth or, to paraphrase one of your responses, "original power level" changes to the characters various superpowers and origins. Having a Superman that can move planets with his strength or run as fast as a speedster would be boring and redundant. Having Mars still alive and well as a planet was PURE GENIUS. Also, unlike many D.C. fans I think your decisions regarding the "Speed Force" on Earth-16 was very wise. Ditto the Superman breath powers thing. Don't let ANYONE give you a hard time about the choices you made while making a universe all your own BASED on D.C. comics characters! It's your universe you can make whatever rules you want! (mostly :)) Your real fans are all behind you.

With that out of my system, my question is this...

From what you displayed to the audience in the Young Justice episode "War" and what you've stated in your previous responses, I feel that it's safe to assume that Mongul's yellow sun related increase in strength and invulnerability is a trait common among his unnamed alien species.

1. I would like to know if Despero's "super" strength, invulnerability, and third-eye based telepathy are traits common among his unnamed alien species? Or unique to him?

2. I would also like to know if Kylstar's "super" strength, invulnerability, and energy absorption/redirection abilities are common traits among his unnamed alien species? Or unique to him?

I realize that there is variation even in traits common to all members of any species. However, the reason I ask is because I cannot assume that all members of their respective species have super powers, like them, based upon only seeing one member of each species.
That would be like a group of Rannians seeing Flash, Black Lightening, or Black Canary in action and assuming all Earthlings have powers like theirs. Or me seeing only Black Beetle and assuming all Reach have Superman-level super strength.

Greg responds...

1. No spoilers.

2. No spoilers.

But thank you for all your kind words.

Hey Greg! I can't believe YJ has been approved for another season, I've kept your twitter tab in my phone through those years just to make sure I never missed the announcement! Anyway, thank you for developing Ask Greg because I have some questions about YJ, if you would please answer.
1). Why did you and the other writers for YJ decide to jump ahead to YJ:Invasion?
2). When developing the characters for YJ: Invasion, did you guys ever keep the stories that they went through just in case you would get a chance to say what happened or did you never plan on saying what happened in between the two seasons?
3). Did you amazing writers know immediately upon planning for YJ that something as big as what happened in the no of season 2 would happen or did you guys go through a bunch of different possible endings for the season finale?
4.) When you look back, is there a character that you wish you would've added into maybe the Team or into the plot in general in seasons 1&2 that you didn't?
5). More of a statement, but thank you so much. Your dedication to these stories that you've seen told and created is inspiring. You've produced my favorite childhood shows and for that I can never thank you or tell you how much that means to me enough. I hope your future endeavors are plentiful and please now that there are fans out here that you helped shape their childhood. Yet again, thank you, have an amazing day (or night) whenever you read this!

Greg responds...

1. As opposed to...?

If I get what you mean, you're asking why we did the time jump? If so, this has been answered before, so I'd check the ASK GREG archives for a more detailed answer, but the short answer is that for a show about growing up, it allowed us to grow the characters up. Plus intro some new faces.

2. We largely did say what happened between the two seasons. Not comprehensively, of course. But everything that truly mattered to the telling of Season Two. We have more stories in mind for the gap - that we do hope to cover eventually, maybe in a new companion comic, if that ever gets approved.

3. "in the no of season 2"? I'm sorry, I'm assuming there's a typo there or something, but I don't understand what that means. But we had the basic ending for Season Two in mind from the beginning. We don't really wing it on this series at all.

4. I can't do that. What ifs abound, I suppose. But I'm happy with how everything turned out. I do wish we had more screen time for nearly every character, but we get what we get.

5. Thank YOU!

2. Was M'gann a virgin through Season One? If yes, did she lose it to Conner between the first two seasons?
3. Was Kaldur a virgin through Season One? If yes, did he lose it between the first two seasons?
4. Was Artemis a virgin through Season One? If yes, did she lose it to Wally between the first two seasons?
5. Was Dick a virgin through Season One? If yes, did he lose it to Zatanna between the first two seasons, or was Bette his first on his 19th birthday?

I'm assuming "car" is a typo for "cat."

And don't take the banter too seriously. Artemis is clearly a dog person and not a cat person when it comes to actual pets. But mostly she was just talking smack with Cheshire, (as I recall).

Hello good day
I have a question

The animated films Justice League: Doom and Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths
Happen in the universe of Young Justice ie are they canon for young justice? That's all greetings and sorry for my english is not my first language

Greg responds...

No.

Here's a list of the complete YJ Canon:

YOUNG JUSTICE (Season One) - 26 episodes (101-126)

YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION (Season Two) - 20 episodes (201-220)

YOUNG JUSTICE LEGACY video game - including Red Arrow's journal

YOUNG JUSTICE compantion comic book series - 27 issues (0-25 plus a free comic book day story)
--All of those issues (except for the free comic book day issue) have been collected in four trade paperbacks:
--*YOUNG JUSTICE, VOLUME ONE (collects 0-6)
--*YOUNG JUSTICE, VOLUME TWO: TRAINING DAY (collects 7-13)
--*YOUNG JUSTICE, VOLUME THREE: CREATURE FEATURES (collects 14-19)
--*YOUNG JUSTICE, VOLUME FOUR: INVASION (collects 20-25)

That's it. Period. Nothing else is canon to our series until Season Three (i.e. YOUNG JUSTICE: OUTSIDERS) hits the air (or until we get more comics).

Hey Greg I saw you mentioned in to different occasions that how strong Captain Marvel was depended on whether or not we were talking about season 1 or 2. I especulate that he might have shared his powers with Mary Bromfield and/or Freddy Freeman. The fact those two have powers is something you've confirmed.

So my questions are:

1.-What made Captain Marvel stronger or weaker in those two seasons?
2.- Was he stronger/faster in season 1 or season 2.
3.-How strong and fast is he compared to superman during season 2?
4.-Is Captain Marvel more resistant to magic than Superman? I ask because traditionally he has been more resistant while superman has been more vulnerable to magic . I wonder if this applies to earth 16 too.

Thank you Greg and congrats for getting young justice back.

Greg responds...

1. No spoilers.

2. No spoilers.

3. "See, now, the Hulk is more powerful because the madder he gets, the stronger he gets. But the Thing can still beat him if he keeps his wits about him."

4. Cap aside, I've never understood this Superman is more vulnerable to magic thing. The point is that Superman isn't INvulnerable to magic. But he's no more vulnerable than you or I.

I noticed someone else asked a question about doing YJ stories that require a more mature rating. In this case, the poster wanted more brutal fight scenes. I don't have much sympathy with his desire for more violence, but it did make me wonder about something else: are there specific instances in which you would have liked to have told on YJ but couldn't because of the limitations of the target audience?

For example, I thought it was rather clever what you did in "Disordered." Personally, as a 49 year old, I wouldn't have minded an entire episode of them talking to Black Canary in therapy, but the reality is that your target audience wouldn't have much patience for that, and you probably couldn't have sold the idea to Cartoon Network either. You came up with an intelligent compromise of having the team's therapy sessions inter-cut with Superboy's adventures with the Forever People.

1) Are there other instances in which you had to come up with creative solutions to making an otherwise unpalatable story palatable to your intended audience? Can you think of some examples and what the work-arounds might have been?

2) And, are there still other stories that you wanted to tell but couldn't at all because of the network or because they wouldn't have interested your audience? For example, you probably couldn't produce an episode that was entirely a slice-of-life episode without an action element because that's your audience tunes in for. Have you ever wanted to do an episode like that on YJ?

3) Will the third season have the same content restrictions placed upon it as previous seasons? Or, will you have more liberty with your creative choices?

Greg responds...

I wouldn't say the "limitations of the target audience" but I would say the limitations of those who are nervous in seats of power.

But your example doesn't hold water for me. "Disordered" was told the way Brandon and I wanted to tell it. There was no compromise for our audience.

1. Your question is based on a faulty premise. I'm not really sure how to address it.

I suppose we hinted at Red Arrow's heroin addiction, as opposed to depicting it. Added in a metaphorical layer about his addiction to searching for the Original Roy, without negating the possibility that over that time he had also slipped into substance abuse.

On another completely different topic, we were aware that we could not depict LGBTQ relationships either. But that doesn't mean we don't have LGBTQ characters. You strive to write with consistency even toward those elements that you're not allowed to discuss.

2. 100% slice of life? No. I like the mix and the counterpoint.

3. I'm not commenting on the third season at all.

1). How did Cheshire recognise Artemins as her sister in Infiltrator? I realise that must sound like a very redundant question, but technically Artemis was wearing a mask when they met, and you've said before in previous posts that this a universe where a pair of glasses or goggles is enough to hide ones identity, regardless of practicality. So how did Cheshire figure out that it was her sister underneath the mask?

2). Here's another thing, Artemis puts on the Glamour Charm so that no one would recognise her as Tigress, but with regards to the whole mask thing, wouldn't she still be unrecognisable to everyone, even her own team, by simply wearing her Tigress mask? In Summit, when Ra's reveals her, she wasn't wearing her mask. But say that she was to wear the mask and someone removes the charm, they still wouldn't be able to tell who she was. Not nesscessarily a question, just an observation

3). When Artemis went undercover as Tigress, did she take on a fake civilian name as well? If so, what was it? Or did everyone just know her simply by Tigress? Did they cook up a false background for her as well? Seems unlikely that Manta would allow Kaldur to appoint some unknown villain as his right hand without some assurances.

4). Since Black Canary was providing therapy for the Team and the abductees, does mean she actually has some kind of degree in counselling or psychology by the start of Season 1?

5). Do the memorials of fallen heroes include their real names, or does it just list them as their hero name? For example, does the one for Jason simply call him Robin or Jason Todd or both? Technically if Tim were to die and he's gets a memorial, they would have two Robins memorials. Do the memorials also include their date of birth and deaths as well?

Greg responds...

1. Fighting style, if you like, added to build, voice, etc.

2. I see your point. But Tigress was LIVING on Manta's ship. Plenty of people saw her without her mask. And even with Ra's, when her hair changed color, I think it would have raised suspicions that would have led to an unmasking.

3. She had all she needed.

4. She has training.

5. You saw what you saw. There's no text at all. And the two Robins (or three, if you include Dick) don't look that much alike side-by-side, especially since this is a private memorial for the benefit of people who knew the dead well.

So thrilled Young Justice is finally being revived. Hopefully, this season will be a bigger success than Season One and Two combined and be renewed for a fourth season.

1. When Young Justice was still airing on Cartoon Network, you said that you got along with the people there. But why on earth did they give the show random hiatuses in both seasons with no explanation given? Were they purposely trying to kill the show? Did Warner Bros. play a role in this?

2. Khary Payton stated in an interview that the box-office bombing of the Green Lantern movie eventually led to the cancellation of Young Justice. Can you confirm this?

3. Is there going to be a trailer for Season 3 this year?

Greg responds...

1. I honestly don't know. Those were all decisions made far above my pay grade.

2. Well. No. I can't. I think it caused some problems. Green Lantern toys languished on the shelf. That effected Mattel's decisions about toys for their entire DC license. And that hurt us, certainly. But I don't want to simplify to the extent you're implying.

3. I dunno.

This was actually a good question. Jaime's armor was pretty much identical to Beetles Black and Green. All three covered their entire bodies and adapted to their bone structure and facial features. Since Black Beetle's real likeness is very humanoid looking, his and Blue's armors look almost identical.

Do the scarabs produce different armor designs from host to host. If so, then why do Blue, Black and Green have pretty much identical armors? If not, why is Dan Garrett's so different from all three? It doesn't even cover is face.

Keep in mind that by the time Dan got the scarab, it had been cleansed and buried for thousands of years. He probably had scarab adapt the armor to his needs and desires.

Are all of the premises for individual scripts generated by you and Brandon? Or, does your team of writers pitch some story ideas to you? Can you give a specific examples in regards to Young Justice how this collaboration works?

Greg responds...

On seasons one and two, all the springboards were generated by Brandon, myself and Kevin Hopps, working together to break the stories. That is, we didn't go off separately and come up with premises and then pitch them to each other. We sat in a room and worked it all out together. I then wrote all the premises, and those were handed to the writers, who wrote the outlines and the scripts.

Season three has been similar, except it's just been Brandon and myself generating the springboards and breaking the stories. I then go off and write all the beat outlines. And those are handed off to the writers to go straight to script.

I am aware that the scene was played mostly for comedy, but, I figure maybe there's a good explanation!

In one of the Season 2 episodes of Young Justice, Captain Cold tried to rob an armored bank vehicle. He froze up the whole place, and then proceeded to bust out the world's smallest ice pick. Whereupon the heroines holding a bridal shower attacked the poor doomed man.

So my question is, did he think this through? It would surely take him quite a long time to chip through the ice to get at a the good stuff. Did he truly believe there would be no response from police or superheroes in the interim?

I suppose "he's not the brightest bulb in the room" might be a possible response, but I'd like to think that someone who can create cryogenic ray guns definitely has a lot of smarts...

Hey Greg, I thought I'd bring up a paradox I thought of regarding YJ, not to criticize the show (I loved the show) but just for fun:

Okay so let's suppose for the sake of discussion that Impulse went back into the past solely to prevent Blue Beetle from going rogue (whether or not this was his only reason remains to be seen). So the reach fails their plan and everything is good. But, we know impulse went back into the past from a dystopic future to prevent said future from ever happening. Now let's say Impulse is able to stop the future from happening. Regardless of whether he can go back to the future or not, the timeline is altered so that the future was never dystopic to begin with, not giving Impulse any reason to go into the past in the first place. What happens to the Impulse already in the past, does he "cease?" The rabbit hole goes deeper. With the future altered, Impulse doesn't go into the past to begin with. So there's no Impulse in the past to fix the dystopic future. So the future becomes dystopic again. So the universe is indetermined. It's in a superposition of states: Dystopic future or happy future. Impulse having to go into the past or not. This is simply a rewording of the grandfather paradox by the way. Let's suppose time travel is possible in the first place (it's not, it's forbidden by the second law of thermodynamics), the ramifications on the universe could be immense, or there could be none at all depending on how the The Young Justice universe works. Just wanted your thoughts on this. Thanks!

Greg responds...

Yeah, I've explored all this in detail. The workings of Time Travel in the DC Universe don't suit my preferences. I prefer the way we did time travel in the Gargoyles Universe. But the way I see it for YJ, is that in essence, Bart came back, and his coming back, split off Earth-16 as a parallel universe. So Bart came back from - in essence - another time line.

Does it take appearance A and completely change it to appearance B or does it make alterations to create appearance A1? As you can tell, I've thought a lot about this.

Thanks and I love your work on Rebels and Young Justice (obviously). And I'm looking forward to reading Rain of the Ghosts!

Greg responds...

1. Yes.

2. It's a team effort.

3. It depends on the specifics of the spell used.

What is the difference between the squads? For example, in s02e01 Lagoon Boy is pretty anxious to be on Alpha Squad. Is Alpha Squad somehow better than Beta or Gamma Squad? If so, why? Does Alpha Squad get the best or most dangerous missions? If so, what kind of missions do Beta and Gamma get?

Greg responds...

Mostly, I'm inclined to refer you to the show. What missions did you see Alpha get across multiple episodes? What missions did you see Beta get? Or Gamma? Etc.

My guess is you saw no real difference.

But La'gaan clearly felt that Alpha was always getting the priority missions, and that the further down the Greek Alphabet you traveled the further away from what was important you were getting. Whether that was real, subtly real, or all in his head, I'll leave up to you.

Im going to test my luck and ask this question. If you think its a spoiler question you dont have to answer it.

Did Barbara learn about Dick's secret identity because she figured it out on her own, circumstances forced someone to tell her, or someone felt compelled to tell her?
Or, if you dont want to be that specific, did someone just tell her?

Greg responds...

No spoilers.

Pretty much all the romantic relationships on the team are not ones we have seen on the comics. Can you tell us how you guys decided on who would date who?

Greg responds...

I assume you're referring to Young Justice.

I'm not sure I agree with your assessment, as I think many of our relationships (Tula/Garth, Tim/Cassie, Ollie/Dinah, Dick/Barbara, etc) come right from the comics. But in any case, our approach was holistic. We let the characters dictate whom they would love.

Queen Bee has the ability to control most men so the first mission to Bialya this season was made of all girls. In this episode, the main squad to capture and transport Blue Beetle to Bialya is made of 3 girls and Impulse...

Why is that? Did you tried to... tell us something about Bart's preferences?!

Greg responds...

No. Robin was there too, which says nothing about the preferences of the boys, the girls or anyone.

Do Nightwing and Red Arrow go to college? What subjects do they study? What education do they have?

Greg responds...

Red Arrow may have started college, but as of the end of Season Two, he never finished.

Nightwing did go to college. His education has been eclectic.

1) As there were only 5 screens on Manta's sub, which members of the Light were absent from Black Manta's briefing at the end of "Downtime"?
2) Speaking of which, since its been answered that the Light uses multiple screens when communicating, do all members of the Light make an appearance when their operative's report on their missions?
3) If no, do they update each other or are a few of them just really doing "homework" between briefings?
4) If the Brain joined the Light before his and Humanite's 2008 operations, did he start his criminal career before becoming a disembodied brain in a mechanical dome?
5) If yes, did he still call himself "the Brain"?

Greg responds...

1. I don't remember. And I'm not sure your assessment is accurate. Even if you are right, since Manta was one of the seven members, if there were five screens, then only one member was missing.

2. Depends on availability.

3. Either. Both.

4. I'm not confirming your "if". But, yes, he started before he was just a brain in a dome.

5. Yes.

1. Why was the "Reach Planetary Acquisition Code" created?
2. What does Article 16 say?
2.1. Why was it created?

Greg responds...

1. Bureaucracy happens.

2. I think that was pretty clear from the episode.

3. For situations like that.

Why are there so many close ups of clocks in "Runaways"? Is it supposed to have any significance?

I'll leave that to each viewer's interpretation.

Would Green Beetle be able to deceive Miss Martian in "The Fix" if she wasn't afraid to probe into his mind?

Potentially. Potentially not.

How good a Robin was Jason? Was he at Dick's level as a hero? Did the other Team members like him? Did he have a romantic relationship before he died?

Greg responds...

1. I'm not big on ranking people.

2. Everyone's different.

3. No spoilers.

4. No spoilers.

Hi Greg Weisman there was always something that kinda bugged me when I rewatched the show. In season one Robin didn't use stealth tech which made sense because he was trained in stealth. You also mentioned Jason probably didn't in one post and i don't remember what you said about Batgirl but my question is simply this.
A. In True Colors is their a in universe reason for Robin to use stealth tech if he is already trained in stealth. Thanks man for your future reply and congrats on Season Three. :)

Greg responds...

Did he use it in True Colors? I don't recall.

2) Who were the leaders of the Justice League during the time skip between season 1 and season 2/Invasion besides Captain Atom in Team Year Five (or in other words, who was the leader of the Justice League in Team Year One, Two, Three, and Four)?

3) Who were the leaders of the Justice League before the formation of the Team (or in other words - Team Year Minus One, Minus Two, Minus Three, Minus Four, Minus Five, and Minus Six)?

Greg responds...

1. No.

2. No spoilers.

3. No spoilers.
