SPOILERS WITHIN.
Hello again, Mr. Weisman.
I recently re-read Spirits of Ash and Foam (all the while suggesting others read it) and I noticed something. In each of the stories when Guanayoa coerces the soldiers into killing each other, you included the line "Aycayia was one of only ten witnesses to the crime." I would assume that 8 of the 10 witnesses are Guanayoa herself, Acayia, and the latter's six sisters.
1. Is this assumption correct? (I don't know why it wouldn't be. But still.)
2. Would it be correct to assume that Opie the omniscient dog is the ninth witness?
3. Would Opie have witnessed this in canine, or from afar?
4. If Opie saw it in canine, would Maq have been the tenth witness along with him?
5. Or is this all one massive spoiler?
Thanks for your time.
1. Yes.
2 - 5. NO SPOILERS. But you're on the right track.
WOW, I LOVE getting Rain/Spirits questions!! Thanks!
All these questions are related to food.
1. In comics it said that superman dosent require food as he can live off entirely on solar energy. Is this same case for Earth 16 Superman and to an extent Superboy?
2. Do Maritians need food? I'd imagine that on mars, their diets would probaley be different than humans, but do their shapeshifting powers allow to them compensate for lack of nutrition?
3. In the series, Wally's suit had a pocket where he kept emergency food. Now first I have to say that's a pretty clever way to deal with Wally's speedy metabolism weakness. I also assume that Flash and Impulse have a food rations on them as well in case of emergencies, so what exactly is the food they eat? I can't imagine it being anything gourmet or something that could easily get destroyed or cause a mess. I (personally) would probably think of it as similar to the rations they give in the military.
4. Do other heroes like Batman or Green arrow keep emergency food rations as well? I mean in most versions, Batman tends to keep himself pretty busy with both his hero and wayne industry work, so he dosnet get that much sleep. So I suppose if he's on some long mission, he probaley would need stop and eat something at one point. The thought occurs to me when I think of the Batman Arkham game series, where Batman is trapped inside Arkham Asylum for at least 10 hours and dosnet eat anything. Now obviously that's just a game dynamic so its not a big deal, but considering how well written Young Justice is I would wonder when and how the heros get a chance to eat and basically recover some energy.
5. I lied. This last question isn't about food. After the events of Misplaced, was the Zeta Tube computer updated to recognise Billy Baston?
1. No. Not for either of them. They could probably go longer without food than a human. But they still have digestive tracks, etc., and if they didn't eat and take in nutrients, those systems would atrophy, and long-term, they'd die.
2. No. Again, I'm not saying they need to eat on the same schedule humans do, but they must eat.
3. Barry and Bart don't have the same metabolism issues that Wally has. Which is not to say they don't eat a lot. But they don't need to keep food on them.
4. I haven't thought about this. But Batman seems like the kind of guy who's prepared for everything. And Green Arrow seems like the kind of guy who isn't prepared for much.
5. Yes.
I'm starting a comic on my own with a superhero plot I want to know what does these comic publishing companies look for
They're all different. The best way to analyze each company is to read what they're already putting out.
But frankly, for an original property, I think I'd recommend self-publishing online first.
5. It seems like you say books and TV sort of go atop everything else as far as entertainment goes. I'm sure it's been asked before, but I'm interested in what you're watching right now (or when I wrote this), specifically within the realm of animation. The animation I'm watching right now would be Korra, Gravity Falls, and, well Star Wars Rebels. Do you have any interest or attachment to any of these (aside from SWR of course)? I'm particularly interested in your thoughts on Avatar because I connected to it hugely when I must have been only seven or eight so I have a huge attachment to it. But I would be interested to hear about what TV you watch in general, at the time I wrote this, or when you answer this, whichever you want to answer. Perhaps just from recent months?
Thanks a bunch, I'm really interested to hear your responses to these questions.
I loved Avatar, The Last Airbender. Watched it with my son. I want to see Korra, but my son is now in college, so it'll have to wait until his vacations.
I keep up with Star Wars Rebels, and I still love the series, even though I have nothing to do with the second season.
I still watch the Simpsons.
I'm watching the first season of Shimmer & Shine, though I'm only working on Season Two. But I want to see what they did.
And that's pretty much it, animation-wise. I think because I work in animation all day, every day, I'm a bit burned out on it. So I'm mostly watching only live action stuff.
4. I was looking at the TV Tropes 'What Could Have Been' page after someone on Ask Greg mentioned it and I stumbled across this snippet about The Spectacular Spider-Man (SPOILERS for the end of second season pretty much go without saying after all of these years but whatever): "It was planned for a five-season run (ending with Peter's graduation from High School) - the timing of the Disney/Marvel buyout would have limited it to only three seasons, but because the show also switched networks, it only got two. And because of that, we wind up ending with the revelation that all of Peter's friends save Mary Jane are alienated from him, Harry hates Spider-Man, Gwen remains his girfriend after some emotional blackmail from Harry, and Peter didn't even stop the bad guy." Now I'm not interested if a longer run would have resulted in a happier ending because that seems like the kind of thing that you would interpret as SPOILERS. I know this is just a fan run site with no sources and It seems it makes a couple of assumptions right off the bat because it wasn't so much planned for a five-season run as much as there was a long term plan that could have spanned five seasons ideally. But I'm interested in if what it was saying about the switching of the networks limiting the show's run from three to two seasons holds any shred of truth.
No. What limited us to two seasons was the fact that Marvel got the animation rights to Spider-Man back from Sony, but Sony still held the rights to "The Spectacular Spider-Man" work product. Sony couldn't make more seasons of Spectacular, because they no longer had the animation rights. Marvel couldn't make more seasons of Spectacular because they didn't have the rights to that version of the character.
It had nothing to do with the network switch between seasons one and two. And it had nothing to do with Disney buying Marvel either.
Hi Greg, I wrote many months ago about the correct episode order for Gargoyles. I actually live in Australia so getting Gargoyles Season 2 Vol. 2 is hard and because I know I won't be able to finish it, I haven't watched all of what I have of Gargoyles yet. That information wasn't really needed but I figured I would put it there as a precursor to saying I'm practically obsessive about The Spectacular Spider-Man, (as a Spider-Man fan like yourself, albeit a much narrower breadth of knowledge as I am only a teenager) love Young Justice, particularly the second season, and am enjoying Gargoyles (I think I'm only just past City of Stone, which was epic in the literal sense) and Star Wars Rebels, that twist in 'Rise of the Old Masters' in particular was really well crafted, which as I write this is six episodes or seven episodes in, I'm slightly behind.
Before I get started, I want to make it clear that whatever I say in my first question, I have no intention to argue with you about what you put in the show as others have been about Wally West at the time I write this. I actually have a few different questions on Young Justice, one on The Spectacular Spider-Man and one about you which are split up and these two paragraphs sort of serve as an introduction to all of it.
1. I'm fairly certain there's an undeniable change of pacing and generally a slight tinkering in the type of storytelling from the first season of Young Justice to the second. In the first season the episodes were relatively self contained episodes that contributed to larger character arcs but in the second season almost every episode, if not every episode, contributed to a constant driving narrative. I've noticed something like this in all of your shows, between their first and second seasons before they all were sadly cancelled. Gargoyles felt like its first season set up the character dynamics and world before the second season expanded its universe, probably due to such a large episode order. And The Spectacular Spider-Man felt like it just grew more confident and ambitious. If you don't think these assessments are correct I'd be very different to hear why your shows evolved. I believe Young Justice evolved the most though. Was that planned from the start or was the show readjusted due to what direction you and the rest thought the show could best move in? Or was it some external factor like a change in writing staff, or a smaller amount of episode? In conclusion, why was the show's overall pacing changed? And if you think I've answered my own question can you elaborate?
2. Was there any break in production? I know there wasn't much space between the airing of Young Justice's first season and its second, but did you have any break between seasons?
3. I'm not sure if this has been asked before, and it seems like a fairly obvious question so I apologize if it has been, but how far into production of season 2 of Young Justice, if at all, did you know it was your last season and how sure were you? When I say you I mean everyone who worked on the show.
1. I think much of what you says feels right. But that's a key distinction. It "feels" right. It isn't objectively correct. I do think that on YJ, the second season was without a doubt more driven by narrative than by character, as the first season was. This was in part intentional. We didn't need to intro concepts. But you may be overstating it a bit as well, since every episode was still designed to stand alone and tell a great story that could hook new viewers. One other factor, as you noted, that definitely contributed to this sense of momentum was the fact that we only got 20 episodes for the second season. That forced us to dedicate more episodes (and storylines within episodes) to the main "novel" we were crafting. With a larger order, we'd have had more plotlines that weren't directly tied to the main throughline, and the feel would have been more like Season One.
2. A short break. Nothing significant.
3. I don't remember exactly, but it was before we completed production. I think maybe even before we had completed the final script.
Hello Mr. Weisman,
I have some questions about creating teams and the personalities of its members.
1. When creating a team how do you decide what will be the personalities of characters in the group? I've read elsewhere that the best way to create a group is to make each member of the group have the opposite personality of another member. Is this the method you use?
2. How did you decide what personalities to use in the Manhattan clan in Gargoyles?
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer my questions.
1. No. Nothing quite that didactic. I do look for a mix. But I'd say my process is more organic and holistic than what you're describing. It also depends a LOT on whether I'm adapting an existing property or creating something original.
2. I'm not sure I remember. But if you look at the ASK GREG archive's "Original Development File," you can see how the characters evolved over time.
On November 13, 2014, you said you had been working on 4 projects on was a Star Wars Rebels: Kanan comic. You declined to name the other three, but you said one was definitely happening, one might happen, and one was postponed indefinitely. If any of these haven't happened yet, will you name them now?
If they haven't happened, no.
In Captain Atom #1, Megala explains the Quantum Field, and equates it to Chi.
Does that mean Asami's power is tied to the Quantum Field somehow?
Uh... maybe.
1.How physically strong are martians in the earth-16 universe?
2.Can they pick up cars or trucks?
3.Can they reverse their density-shifting to make them stronger and more durable?
-Great show by the way :D
1. It depends on their density.
2. Trucks, no. A small car, perhaps, depending on his or her density.
3. Yes. But they'd get physically smaller in volume. You see this in our companion comics when Miss Martian visits Atlantis.

1. Why did Liz and Flash break up, and who broke up with whom?
2. How does Peter stick to walls through his costume? Wouldn't the hairs on his fingers be blocked? And how do his feet stick to walls, especially if he's wearing boots in his costume?
3. What is Hammerhead's real name (first and last)?
4. Were you allowed to use Marvel objects not related to Spider-Man? For example, could you mention Adamantium or Latveria?
5. How did Vulture, Sandman, Rhino, and the Mysterio robot escape from prison in Reinforcement? And why did they bother breaking the robot out?
1. It was kind of mutual, since Flash was interested in M.J. and Liz was interested in Petey.
2. It's a thin costume (even the boots). That's why he's so cold all the time.
3. NO SPOILERS.
4. It never came up. If I had to guess, I'd assume Adamantium was okay and Latveria was not.
5. I don't recall.
5a. I don't think they knew it was a robot.
1. Where was Master Planner's lair? What was the building Spider-Man was looking at, how did he know he could enter underwater, how was it built, and how did the villains get in?
2. What did Black Cat do with the stolen jewel from the end of Persona?
3. How did Vulture fire the lasers from the back of his wings in Shear Strength?
4. Why did nobody at the racetrack notice the Green Goblin? It wasn't a very good disguise.
5. What experiment was Dr. Octavius working on that caused the arms to fuse to him? Was it a normal experiment or a supervillain one?
1a. In the river.
1b. I don't recall.
1c. He got that info from Tinkerer, didn't he? (It's been a while, and my memory isn't the best.)
1d. I think that was more or less spelled out in the episode. At least to the extent one needs to know.
1e. In an elevator from that building, maybe?
2. Fenced it.
3. Hidden controls.
4. If you say so.
5. Define "normal".
1. Are the symbiote's webs living pieces of the symbiote, dead symbiote matter, or just waste produced by the symbiote?
2. Peter's costume gets ripped or torn in many episodes. How does he repair it?
3. In the Big Sky Billiard Room, there is a sign in the background that says "No gambling". Was this a joke, or does Montana not approve of or know about Blackie Gaxton being a bookie?
4. In Group Therapy, there is a sign that says "Jazzy Gianni: The Musical". In Gangland, the restaurant where the M^3 kids are eating is also called Jazzy Gianni's. Who is Jazzy Gianni, and why are a restaurant and a musical named after him?
5. What are those metal things Hammerhead wears on his hands? Do they enhance his strength?
1. Fine question. I have no idea. I'll leave that to your interpretation.
2. With difficulty. (Also, he has two identical costumes.)
3. None of the above. What's legal and posted, doesn't always get respected - either by the owner or the help.
4. Jazzy Gianni was our code for Jazzy Johnny Romita Sr., the second artist (after Steve Ditko) to team with Stan Lee on Spider-Man. In universe, we imagined that Jazzy Gianni was a legendary man-about-town in New York City. And who's to say we're wrong?
5. They're the equivalent of brass knuckles. They don't enhance his strength, but they enhance the damage he can do with his fists.
Hello Greg, big fan of your work. My question is; Robin (Dick Grayson) seemed to me to have a slight stutter sometimes when he spoke in the series. I was wondering if it was because if you were going the comic book route that English was his second language and Romani his first. If it was the intention to have Jesse McCartney sometimes struggle through the lines or if it was a different intention entirely? Thank you so much for an awesome series. I hope you can answer my question.
I think you're imagining the stutter. It was not intentional, and although I was at literally every record and heard the vocal tracks multiple, multiple times both before and after the episodes were completed, I have never noticed any stutter, slight or otherwise. Nor do I believe that Jesse struggled through anything. Nor do I believe that Dick struggled either.
Hi Mr. Weisman,
I first want to say that I enjoy Young Justice so much. Anyway I also wanted to ask
1.) In Season 2's "Intervention" was there any reason why the squad sent to free Blue Beetle wasn't all female? They did go to Qurac so was Queen Bee not a concern?
2.) Is it safe to assume that by the end of Season 2 the League had no evidence of Lex Luther's or Queen Bee's involvement in the Light and the Reach invasion? Lex seems to admit being part of the Light and helping the invasion in "Endgame" despite General Secretary Tseng being present but Tseng was kind of far away.
3.) What happened to the Reach scientist following her trial before the Guardians? Was her competence ever recognised considering the fact that the Ambassador consistently ignored her?
1. I'd imagine they kept track of where she was, and she was in Bialya at the time. Plus, I doubt Impulse could have been convinced to skip the mission, so...
2. They have no hard evidence of Lex or Bee's complicity, correct.
3. NO SPOILERS.
sir,
I think that you'll find that you have been answering SPOILER to many Young Justice questions. I thought the show had finished. technically you cannot spoil that which is over. in saying SPOILERS, you are implying that Young Justice is in fact not over. thank you. also. how much more protesting/ buying of merchandise will it take to bring back Young Justice?
I think I've made it very clear that Young Justice is not finished in my mind. I still hold out hope that it will come back. Always have.
Protesting accomplishes pretty much nothing. Buying merchandise does help if it's merchandise that pays back to Warner Bros or DC Comics.
That means, at this point, the following:
BUY THE DVDS and/or BLURAYS from a legit source (i.e. don't pirate them or buy them second-hand/used).
BUY THE COMPANION COMICS on COMIXOLOGY.
VIEW Season One and Season Two OVER AND OVER on NETFLIX.
Mr. Weisman,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news. In "The Multiversity: The Just #1", your "Young Justice" universe apparently only exists as a video game series on Grant Morrison's Earth-16.
How screwed up is that?! I would have to assume that if you plan to come back to "Young Justice," you'd probably reboot the series on yet another parallel Earth (perhaps one of the seven intentionally unknown parallel Earths in the new 52 DC multiverse)?
We were given Earth-16. Not sure why DC/Morrison chose to do what they did in Multiversity. I wasn't privy to that decision. It's disappointing, but I'm sure they had their reasons.
If we come back, we're still Earth-16. It's too late for us to change.
If that screws things up, well... c'est la vie.
And if all we are is a video game on someone's world, well - we're a hell of a game!
Was the redhead in the glass case when Brainiac was abducting the world's strongest people Knockout or Maxima?
Maxima.
Are the earth-16 martian power set telekinesis,telepathy,shape-shifting,camouflage,super-strength, flight,Density-shifting, and durability?
Sorta.
They really only have two powers: mental and physical.
The mental includes telepathy and telekinesis, and the latter is what allows them to fly. It also allows them to control their organic clothing (and the Bio-Ship).
The physical is all about shape-shifting. Because they are generally shape-shifting into something smaller than their true form, they have a relatively high mass for their volume, i.e. a higher density, which gives them super-strength and durability. They can shift their density to allow them to pass through solid objects, and they can shape-shift their color, allowing them to camouflage their skin. (As for, camouflaging their clothes, see above.)
I think that covers it.
In "Revelations," Martin Hacker told Matt "Your job was to get him (Goliath) there (to the Hotel Cabal). It's not your fault if old Mace couldn't hold him." In fact, since Matt gave Goliath the key and physically stopped Mace from shooting Goliath, it was indeed Matt's fault that old Mace couldn't hold him.
Was Martin unaware of Matt's involvement in Goliath's breakout, or was he deliberately lying to Matt?
For now, that's up to your interpretation. Matt assumes that no one but Goliath knows about Matt's complicity. Is he right?
NO SPOILERS.
1) If someone were to use the zeta tube to go out and at the same time someone is trying to go in (let's say that the others are busy ) what happens? Who gets priority?
2) Do atlateans eat sea food ? Or is that like taboo?
3) How do atlateans ummm... "take care of their business"? I mean being under water would be a great medium for bacteria (enteric bacteria) or especially trematodes. Is it done by ~magic~
4)So why did the blue scarab used "cease" and when Jaime asked what it meant by that we get no response? Was that suppose to be a tease?
5) how are you ? :) and thank you!
1. You mean if LITERALLY they hit the button at the same exact second...? I don't know.
2. Of course they eat seafood? As opposed to what?
3. No. It's biological. But let's offer them their privacy, shall we?
4.
5. Pretty good. Thanks for asking.
You revealed at CONvergence that Nerissa and Cassidy were lovers.
1. Did the rest of CHKYN know?
2. If not, was it a secret because the 50's and 60's weren't the slightest bit progressive about same-sex relationships?
3. Were Nerissa and Cassidy still in a relationship when Nerissa killed her?
What's said in a Blue Mug should stay in a Blue Mug, and in any case should be taken with a grain of salt. It's at best my opinion, and certainly NOT company sanctioned.
But anyway...
1. I think so.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
Did Nerissa kill the real Mage?
Yes, I believe so. (Though it's been a long time.)
Greg you work for Disney again and are doing Star Wars I am curious I was looking at work for an Indiana Jones animated project artist Patrick Shoenmaker did that never came to be. My questions is if Disney ever produced an animated series would you be interested? Were you a fan of the Indiana Jones films? Did you ever read or get exposed to the comics either Further Adventures or Darkhorse run? The writing in those seem up your ally long archs I think it would be awesome if u are ever offered that opportunity what do you think?
Well, I'm no longer working on Star Wars Rebels or at Disney - unless you count the work I'm doing at Marvel Comics, writing Star Wars Kanan and Starbrand & Nightmask.
But this is really just a hypothetical question anyway, so it doesn't really matter where I'm working.
Anyway, I loved Raiders of the Lost Ark. Didn't love the second or third movies as much and haven't seen the fourth. I loved the television series about Young Indy (though I can't remember it's exact title at this moment). Haven't seen any Indiana Jones comics.
But I have tremendous fondness for the franchise and would of course leap at the chance to work on it.
Hi Greg. Can you explain the behind-the-scenes reasons for your departure from "Rebels" after only one season? Or, would it be considered unprofessional for you to comment on this?
Mostly it would be considered NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS, whether the reason was benign or malevolent. Probably unprofessional, as well. And that's not even counting the fact that I signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement with Lucasfilm.
But mostly, it's just the first reason. I'm happy to answer questions about process and about the show (as long as its not a spoiler). But I feel like on general principle this question crosses a line.
Hi Greg. I hope you don't think I'm playing a game of "gotcha" but there is something about "endgame" that bothers me. When Wally decided to go help Flash and Impulse, Captain Marvel was standing right beside him. (Actually, Artemis was right beside him but you get the idea.) I believe you have said that Cap is actually faster than Wally. Wouldn't it have made sense for Wally to ask Marvel to come along to help the Flashes?
Though I'm not denying it per se, I don't recall saying that Cap is faster than Wally, and in any case, Season Two Cap is definitely NOT faster than Wally.
Besides, I just don't think it occurred to Wally to ask Cap. Fast or not, he's not considered a speedster. So it wouldn't be an automatic thing.
Not so much a question as something interesting for anyone who feels up to it. Quizzes of EVERY character in YJ and Gargoyles. Go nuts.
http://www.sporcle.com/games/Clever_Username/every-young-justice-character
http://www.sporcle.com/games/Masterdramon/gargoyles_characters
Well, I got 50% on YJ and 86% on Gargoyles. (Though I think I've done the latter before.)
I consider both scores pathetic. My memory sure ain't what it used to be.
Since Joe's Books has the license to publish Disney comics (and they're continuing Darkwing Duck from where Boom!'s series left off), do think they'd be interested in doing Gargoyles comics?
That's our hope. We're starting with Gargoyles Cinestory, Volume One, which is an adaptation of our five-part pilot, "Awakening".
I was wondering; is Anton Sevarious gay, or just incredibly hammy?
He's definitely the latter, and I don't know what that would have to do with the former. As to the former, NO SPOILERS.
Hello again, Mr. Weisman.
I just wanted to ask, are you a fan of John Carpenter's "The Thing"? Keith David and Charles Hallahan were both in it, and they were both on "Gargoyles". Could just be a coincidence, but I'm curious.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
I've never seen it.
Hey, I just wanted to ask if you've seen the first two episodes of The Flash and what you thought of it? I really enjoyed Young Justice and just finished it and it's such a shame it was cancelled I hope you get to continue the story soon because I could see it being just as good or even better than The Justice league.
I saw all of season one of Flash. And I'm just a couple episodes behind on Season Two.
Generally, I like Flash. It's probably my favorite of the Berlanti DC shows.
Has Tim ever met Troia, Lieutenant Marvel, or Sergeant Marvel?
NO SPOILERS.
Mr. Weisman,
Have you read "The Multiversity: The Just" yet? If so, then what are your thoughts about this issue, considering it uses the same designation (Earth-16) as the setting of the "Young Justice" TV series? Do you feel this could create any problems for you if you ever decide to go back to "Young Justice" someday?
I haven't read it and thus have no thoughts about it.
Hello Greg,
I know this question has nothing to do with the show "Gargoyles" but it is about "W.I.T.C.H", one of my favorite shows of all times. It is 2014 and W.I.T.C.H is still being viewed by newer fans and I wanted to ask about the songs from "S is for Self". "The Will to Love" and "Demon in Me" are my most favorite songs from the series and wanted to ask if there will be ANY chance at all for them to be shown in public and even if there was a chance for them to end up in iTunes. I would love to be able to buy the songs and be able to listen to them all day everyday. Thank you for your time.
I have no idea, I'm afraid. I'd love it if they were. I wrote the lyrics to "Will to Love" and my brother Jon Weisman wrote the lyrics to "Demon in Me". It'd be very cool if they were available. We're proud of 'em.
Did Garfield ever meet Rita Farr before Marie's death by Queen Bee?
NO SPOILERS. But yes. Rita and Marie were good friends.
Hello Mr. Weisman,
I have a question about Gargoyles for you that just popped in my mind about five minutes ago.
"If a gargoyle was to sleep at all during the night would he be able to stay awake longer during the day?"
Why would a gargoyle sleep at night?
But - basically - no. His or her cycle is tied into the planet's cycle.
I love YJ awesome work between YJ and Geoff Johns work on Aquaman in new 52 I have renewed interest in the character and has become my favorite of the New 52 comics. Aqualad is the best created tv superhero character ever is my opinion. Watched a few episodes recently and I have just one question. In season is established that Aqualad is one of the more experienced and powerful members of YJ but in season 1 he is defeated soundly by Chester but by season 2 Kaldur is taking on half of YJ and holding his own and taking out Superboy with a couple of blows even after Superboy advancing in fight technique with instruction by Black Canary. Is this simple progression of fighting ability or increase in power?
Mostly the former, but I also don't agree with the premise of your question. I think you are (a) underestimating CHESHIRE and (b) not taking into account that the first time one fights any new opponent, it's going to be more difficult then fighting someone you know well, and (c) missing the fact that Aqualad intentionally threw the fight with Cheshire at least once.
Plus, you're skipping all the other season one battles he had.
It's just an odd question.
But if what you're asking is whether or not he got more powerful between seasons, the answer is basically no.
Hi! I've been a fan of Spectacular Spider-Man, Gargoyles, and Young Justice, but now it's time to ask about the latest show you worked on: Star Wars Rebels.
1) What was it like working on the production team? After all, many of the creative team on Rebels worked together on The Clone Wars, but there's some new blood like you.
2) Related- how much creative input did you have compared to other projects? Obviously you had less than you did in your books, given the dichotomy of working with a team versus working on a novel, but compared to other animated series and adaptations you did, was it more, less, or the same?
3) Now that you've left the production team for season 2 onwards(if that is just a rumor, my apologies for propagating it), what are you looking to doing?
Obviously, it's not a lot because at this time only the first three episodes have aired and asking questions about the season's progression would be like asking for plot points of a movie that's currently running. However, chances are I will be back with more questions after the season. Have a good day!
1. It was a lot of pressure, but it was also a lot of fun.
2. It's hard to measure this stuff quantitatively. I had two producing partners (Simon Kinberg and Dave Filoni) on the first season (as opposed to one on most of the series I've done), and there's no doubt that Dave was the senior partner, i.e. the guy that George passed the torch to on the animation side. Plus the Lucasfilm Story Group was very involved and Disney XD had input. So I was less autonomous, certainly. But that's not to imply anything negative. It was a grand collaboration, and the writing staff was great too.
3. Earn a living, mostly. :)
But if you haven't already, check out my novels RAIN OF THE GHOSTS and SPIRITS OF ASH AND FOAM. You can also download and purchase the RAIN OF THE GHOSTS full-cast unabridged AudioPlay at Gumroad.com/RainoftheGhosts. Vanessa Marshall (Hera) and Steve Blum (Zeb) are both featured among a stellar cast that includes many actors from Spectacular Spider-Man, Gargoyles and Young Justice.
Hello, Mr. Weisman. Back again.
Something that bugged me a little when I was watching "High Noon" and "The Price"; in both episodes, Goliath wonders how Macbeth could have escaped from the Weird Sisters (of course, Macbeth didn't actually escape, but that's neither here nor there with regards to my point).
Anyway, my question is this: did it never occur to Goliath that the Weird Sisters might have just let Macbeth go? After all, he doesn't really know anything about the Sisters at this point; they're almost entirely an unknown quantity. Did he think that they'd keep Macbeth and Demona prisoner indefinitely (that isn't rhetorical; I really do want to know)?
Thank you for your time, sir. Have a nice day.
I don't know about indefinitely, but the Sisters didn't take them casually, hence Goliath's response.
You responded "Why would she want Garfield dead?" to Ben Wes's question "Why Queen Bee did not kill Garfield right after Marie was killed?". Well, the same reason, revenge on Miss Martian. So was there a motivation for Queen Bee to kill Marie beyond revenge?
Revenge at one's own expense doesn't make a lot of sense. The heroes are viewed as assets by the Light. Chess pieces that one doesn't sacrifice without cause.
As to whether there was a secondary reason for Queen Bee to kill Marie Logan -- NO SPOILERS.
Hi Greg. I have a question about female heroes in the YJ universe, I hope it doesn't venture into spoiler territory.
The Team had a solid male-female ratio. The League considerably less, with 3/16 and later 5/25. Wonder Woman even mentions this inbalance in "Agendas".
My question is: what was the ratio in the JSA/A-SS? Wonder Woman was a member, as was "Firebrand", but were there any female heroes operating at the time? Obviously, there was no Black Canary yet in this timeline, but were there any other women? Or was it mainly a boys' club?
There were other women, but both the JSA and the A-SS were primarily boys' clubs.
Progress, I'm afraid, is slow. But as you noted, the Team was considerably better balanced. So progress has been made.
Hello Greg Weisman this is Christopher Rosa and I have another question for you,
1. I was wondering before you start work on Star Wars Rebels were you a Star Wars fan, did you watch the movies, the tv series, and the now non canon books, and if so does that influential you in writing Star Wars Rebels?
1. I was a huge fan of the original two movies and of the galaxy far, far away, in general. I had seen the other movies and a handful of episodes of Clone Wars, and I had read Splinter of the Mind's Eye. But I was not familiar with most of the expanded universe. But Episodes IV and V were my major influence for Rebels, which suited Lucasfilm just fine.
Since Sony still has the film rights to Spider-Man, could they make a direct to video Spectacular Spider-Man movie? Or would it have to be theatrical? Or could it only be a live-action movie still set in the same universe? Or are they not allowed to do any of this?
Marvel has the animation rights to Spider-Man. Beyond that, I'm not privy to what they've agreed on between the two companies.
Why is it that Rebels is including so many characters from the movies in the show? The pilot featured Obi-Wan Kenobi, Droids in Distress featured R2D2 and C3PO as well as Bail Organa, and the trailer for Season 1 showed Luminara? Is this supposed to be a fun little nod to the movies or way of getting views? Ex. tune in to next week's Rebels episode to see R2D2 and C3PO.
All of the above - but MOSTLY it's because (a) it's one cohesive universe, so it makes sense to include familiar characters where appropriate and (b) how cool was it for us to get to work with Artoo, Threepio and Antony Daniels?!
Hello Greg this is Christopher Rosa I have some questions for you,
1. I remember reading you saying that there are no original characters in Spectacular Spider-Man, that got me thinking, I remember in episode Reaction there other cheerleaders appear with Liz and Sally, one with light brown hair, another with black hair who was black, and finally one I think with brown or black hair, are these background characters base on canon characters, or are they nameless characters you just made, and if there are not nameless I like to hear there names?
2. I was wondering if you have a change to continued Spectacular Spider-Man, would you change any plans you had in 2009, like there are new supporting characters, villains, and allis Spider-Man has now that did exist, example L. Thompson Lincoln now has a daughter, Im not looking for a spoiler answer and I hope this is not a spoiler question but if you do start up Spectacular Spider-Man again would you consider using a character that did not exist in 2009?
1. They were probably nameless, but I don't recall.
2. Yes, I'd consider it.
Why did the rest of the world let count Vertigo escape justice when he threatened them all?
Diplomatic Immunity.
How strong are martians in Earth-16
Depends on what form they take and how dense that form is.
I was a guest of the Glen & Dean Show last week. You can listen to it here: https://t.co/YEmsvgs7gb.
Hello, Mr. Weisman.
I've been rewatching some episodes of "Gargoyles" and reading some of your ramblings about the show, and I had a couple of interesting thoughts about the Pack:
The two most human members of the Pack, Fox and Dingo, are also the first to break off from the group. Fox basically ditched them as soon as Coyote entered the picture; she'll manipulate or work with her former co-stars if the mood strikes, sure, but otherwise, she's pretty much done with them. Dingo took a bit longer, but he left as well, and he also seems to be pretty much done with the Pack, apart from working for Fox in "Walkabout".
On a similar note, Fox and Dingo are also the only ones out of the Pack to have had their real names (or, in Fox's case, her birth name) revealed. They go by Fox and Dingo, but they were born Janine Renard and Harry Monmouth.
Contrast the others: long after Fox and Dingo have (mostly) gone straight, Wolf, Jackal, and Hyena continue a life of crime. On top of that, we have no other names by which to identify them (although, for some reason, I keep thinking that Wolf's first name is something like "Thomas"; probably just getting a little mixed-up with one of Clancy Brown's other roles on the show). They're the ones who discard their humanity for an extra edge. Unlike Fox and Dingo, who are people with vague beastly motifs, Wolf, Hyena, and Jackal are beasts in human skin (metaphorically speaking). We know them by no other names because they need no others. What their parents called them is irrelevant. Not only that, but they stayed together as a team up until Egypt (and will eventually reunite under Coyote as the Ultra-Pack). The beasts stayed a Pack, and the people set off on their own.
One last remark on the Pack's chosen names: Fox's and Dingo's mirror their heritages ("Renard" is French for "fox", and Dingo's Australian), while the other members have names that reflect who they are (Wolf was always a huge, growling brute, Hyena's a cackling killer, Jackal's amoral). Fox and Dingo CHOSE their names; Wolf, Hyena, and Jackal already WERE their names.
So, what do you think? Is this little analysis accurate at all (I could be way off, or reading too much into it; you, sir, would, of course know better than I would)?
In conclusion, thank you for taking the time to read this, and have a good day, Mr. Weisman.
I like it!!
Hello Greg, Big fan of your work. Met you at last week's Long Beach Comic Con. I have all the Gargoyles dvds and I still have a question about Demona. Hopefully you havent already answered this question.
But what is it specifically that causes Demona to betray her clan? Did Xanatos already influence that decision prior to her being revealed to the clan or was it the fact that Goliath didnt wish to kill anyone on Reinard's ship during their mission together? It would seem that Demona was taken back by Goliath's change in behavior. He wasnt the same gargoyle she knew in 994. Thank you for your time.
Actually, Goliath WAS fundamentally the same gargoyle she knew in 994. She had changed and changed so much, it colored her memories of him. She thought he would follow her lead, be as hateful toward the humans as she was. When he wasn't - and furthermore when he went to see a human instead of staying with her, especially after their less than in-synch mission on Fortress-1 - she decided that Goliath was the problem and needed to be convinced - or eliminated - at gunpoint.
Dear Mr. Weisman,
As for being the writer and producer of several wonderful and genuinely intriguing shows, I thank you for inspiring generations of viewers and readers to find their personal creativity and curiosity about the world. BUT...
As a result of this curiosity, and on behalf of such fans everywhere, I am compelled to ask: How do you remain so SUSPICIOUSLY, almost MAGICALLY youthful-looking?! Is there something you'd like to spoil *cough* accidentally let slip *cough*to us, Greg? *DA DA DUNN!
Assuming what you say is true - and also assuming it's actually a serious question - it's mostly just good genes. My paternal grandmother lived until she was nearly 102. My dad's a very youthful 80. My mom, a very youthful 78.
If I've done anything to help myself out, it's probably this: I don't smoke. I never have smoked. And I try to avoid being around second-hand-smoke.
Couple questions regarding Wonder Woman in Young Justice:
1.) You said previously that you can't age while on Themyscara, but if Diana was sculpted from clay as a baby how did she age to being 16 by the time she left the island in 1941?
2.) Was Hippolyta the only one that was involved in Diana's sculpting from clay or were others involved?
3.) Were all the amazons sculpted from clay or just Diana?
4.) Did the gods bestow Diana with her powers at birth, or did she receive them later in her life?
5.) Why did she decide to return to mans world again in 2001?
1. No Spoilers.
2. No Spoilers.
3. For the most part, the other Amazons were other Amazons. Otherwise, I won't confirm or deny whether or not Diana was the only one sculpted.
4. At birth.
5. No Spoilers.
Hello, Mr. Weisman.
1. Are you familiar with the manga and animé series known as Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)? The show has been a very large success in the country of Japan as well as in the United States.
2. What are your impressions of the show?
Thank you for your time.
1. I've heard of it, but I've never seen it.
2. I have none ... cuz.. I've never seen it.
Just got done reading your first book and really enjoyed it. Just got the second book on kindle and will start reading it soon. I hope you are able to turn this into a movie or animated program at some point. The first book would make an awesome movie In my opinion.THis book seems to have Guillermo del Toro written all over it.
I was wondering what type of advertising you are doing for the book and what have found to be the most useful in getting the word out?
I was wondering about the possibility of you ever doing any gargoyles novels.I can not wait to see the story line continued in some form or other. I felt like I was just reading the tip of the ice berg or cool stories. I do not know how feasible that would be,but I would love to read more gargoyles related stories from you in any format.
I'm glad you like Rain of the Ghosts. A short review on Amazon would help me out, I'm told.
Let me know what you think of Spirits of Ash and Foam, once you've read it.
I'd love to do a movie or show based on the Rain series, but so far no one has been interested.
I've used social media and done multiple, multiple interviews (print, online, even good old radio) to promote the book. I can't say anything has been all that effective, unfortunately.
Perhaps the Rain of the Ghosts AudioPlay (currently available for purchase and download at Gumroad.com/RainoftheGhosts) will bring more attention to the property as a whole.
I'd also love to do Gargoyles' novels. But that's not up to me. I don't own Gargoyles.
Hello,
this it to clarify. According to some fans, Tula was a b*** because she betrayed Kaldur for his best friend, and Garth betrayed his best friend because he started dating Tula even though he knew Kaldur was in love with her.
According to some other fans, Tula had never been Kaldur's girlfriend so she didn't cheat, and neither Garth, nor Tula knew Kaldur had feelings for her so no one did anything really horrible.
Please, what really happened?
Tula was NEVER Kaldur's girlfriend. EVER. He never approached her, never revealed his feelings as being more than platonic until "Downtime". Tula and Garth were not cheating on Kaldur. PERIOD.
However, I'll leave it to each viewer's interpretation as to whether or not either Tula, Garth or both KNEW that Kaldur had feelings for Tula. Maybe one or both did know that, maybe they didn't. But Tula never had romantic feelings for Kaldur. I don't see - even if she was aware of his crush - how she could be expected not to date the boy she did have feelings for when the boy she didn't have feelings for never even expressed those feelings.
1. As of Season One which Leaguers civilian identities were known to the entire Team?
2. At what point in time did Green Arrow tell Artemis his secret identity?
1. I feel like I've answered this already. Did you check the archives?
2. Pretty much immediately.
1. Were Aqualad and Rocket still dating when Jason joined the Team?
2. Did they break up sometime after Jason's death?
3. Were Dick and Zatanna still dating when Jason joined the Team?
4. Did they break up sometime after Jason's death?
1. No Spoilers.
2. No Spoilers.
3. No Spoilers.
4. No Spoilers.
Hello,
How long can Atlanteans survive out of water?
Have a great day!
Depends on a ton of factors.
I just read a recent answer in which you said "Owen is asexual", but in some answers archived on this site from years ago, you said that he was dating a woman offscreen (saying "She's human and, no, you haven't met her yet"). Did you change your mind between then and now, or forget what you had said before? (as you have a lot of information in your mind and it would be easy to lose track of one detail)
You seem to assume these things are mutually exclusive.
I have some New Olympian-related questions.
If the New Olympian character Boreas bears some resemblance to Zeus in terms of appearance and role...
a. ....then which actual Olympian in Greek mythology would Boreas' sons (Kalais and Xetes) bear resemblance to?
b. ....are there other New Olympians (other than the ones seen on the Gargoyles cartoon) that bear any resemblance to the actual Olympians of Greek Mythology, and if so, what are their names (if they don't have any)?
a. Boreas.
b. No Spoilers.
