Well, other than the dark hair, I don't see that Zatanna and Donna have much in common. But I wouldn't want to second guess the amazing Phil Bourassa. Brandon Vietti, Phil and I would always talk about a character before he sat down to design him or her. And Phil would always do everything we asked for. But then Phil would always surprise us, as well.

1. It's really about heat, not fire. But both are a legit threat to them physically.

2b. There's no significant biological difference between the various races of Martians in ANY respect.
3. Well, we're all vulnerable to fire, aren't we? I mean, I Superboy isn't. But it's not like Robin, Artemis, Aqualad and Kid Flash are somehow immune from the threat of fire. Beast Boy's no different. But he's not as vulnerable to heat as Miss Martian is.

I was recently re-watching the first season and I noticed that Wally was wearing a jacket that was similar to Artemis's in Season Two. Was it Wally's jacket she was wearing? Thank you.

Why did you guys decide to use Wally West as one of the members of the original team on Young Justice? Was it because he was a vastly popular character in the comics (and therefore would be popular on the show)? Was it simply because he was one of the original sidekicks? Or was he just a placeholder speedster until Bart could be brought in?
I ask because it certainly seemed like the show never put as much effort and thought into his character and story that it did any of the other lead characters throughout the two seasons. You guys completely skipped over important parts of his story and never established things that were supposedly vital to the character on the show. Having to come here to find out that he was insecure about his speed relative to Barry (pretty important since he died because of that), or what Artemis might like about him, or why he wasn't helping out with the alien invasion after his confrontation with Dick during the second season isn't something that should be necessary. Which meant that both he and the stories he was a part of on the show suffered greatly. Also, you even mentioned that Wally was never a priority for the show like the other five members of the original team were.
So why use a valuable roster spot and screen-time on a character that you guys obviously weren't all that invested in? It's not like he was ever relevant to the plot aside from being Artemis' love interest, which any other character could have been, and being the character that died. The fact that he disappeared for a long stretch and was ultimately killed off during season two shows he wasn't important to the show like the others. That he was the one "main" character you guys felt the show could do without. And I got the feeling from how the show treated the character that you guys didn't care all that much about him, either.
And it's not that I didn't like Wally as I liked him well enough. Though I'm honestly not sure if I would have liked YJ's Wally if I didn't feel a pre-established connection to the character (thanks to the comics and Justice League/Unlimited) that allowed me to excuse his behavior/faults that the show never bothered explaining. I ask simply because he didn't bring much to the overall plot of the show in either season as he was just a support character (his relationships with Artemis, Dick, and Bart were portrayed as one-sided too) and the show never bothered examining the important aspects of his character and story like the others. It just seems strange to have a roster of six, and then treat five characters one way and Wally another. I mean, there was probably another character out there that you guys could have made relevant to the plot and/or been interested in exploring their character, right?

Wow, I'm getting tired of this.
I've said this before, ad nauseum at this point, but I'll say it again. Wally West is my all-time favorite speedster. The fact that he was one of the original sidekicks didn't hurt. But he certainly was NOT just a placeholder for Bart. And I don't particularly care who is popular or not. Brandon and I chose him for a variety of reasons, that included powers, power-level, personality, background, history, dynamics with other characters - and, yes, nostalgia.
There definitely seems to be a vocal minority who seems to think we didn't do the character justice. (At least they're pretty darn vocal here at ASK GREG.) But they are the minority. The vast majority of our audience seems to have loved Wally, which suggests they loved how we handled him - except maybe his ceasing to exist at the end, which BROKE THEIR HEARTS. And you can't break a fan's heart if they don't care about the character in the first place. (I suppose you'll attribute that to the love of the character they brought with them TO the show. But I don't believe that's true for most of our audience, who loved Wally - and in particular, Jason Spisak's performance as Wally.)
And I've never said that Wally was any less of a priority in Season One than the others. All six of the original teammates had equal priority and near-equal screen time. (What I said was that his story was more straight-forward and required less explanation - something that was equally true about Dick and Kaldur.) And what I said about Wally relative to Season Two is that ALL the characters (in terms of screen time) were subservient to the arc of the story. So, yes, some got more priority because of the story. But that wasn't a knock on Wally. Anymore than Superboy's near total absence in the second half of the season was a knock against him.
I will say that if you didn't get some of the nuances of the character until you came here to ASK GREG, then I'm sorry. In that sense, we failed you. Some of it was revealed with more clarity in our companion comic, but I'll grant that you shouldn't have had to pick that up in order to appreciate what was going on in the show. But we took no different approach to Wally than to Dick or Kaldur or Artemis or anyone. If we failed, we failed. But please STOP trying to ascribe some odd motivation to it. You don't like it, fine. But stop trying to tell us how WE feel. It's reductive, presumptuous and insulting.
(And by the way, I don't agree that we failed. The truth of all those things you "discovered" here is IN THE EPISODES themselves. It may not be stated verbally, but I think all of it is there, spelled out in behavior, action and words between words. If we weren't on the head with it enough for you, fine. But it worked for us. We were happy with it. And again, I think most of our audience got it, even if some of our audience did not. And I'm okay with that.)
We were VERY invested in Wally, from his first appearance to his last. Sorry if it didn't work for you, but that's all it is. Us doing something that didn't work for you. Not us crapping it out. We worked very hard, and I believe overall we did justice to the character, as seems obvious by fan response to his death.
Now, can we please put this topic to rest? Those of you who feel this way have had your say, over and over. And I've responded, over and over. Neither side is going to convince each other. It's enough.

1. The show is SO expensive to produce, that to pay for it, it needs to sell a lot of stuff (usually toys) to allow us to continue making it.
2. The show was NOT left on a cliffhanger unless you're stretching the definition of "cliffhanger" beyond all reasonable measure. Yes, there were loose ends and hints at future seasons, but EVERY major plot line of season two was tied up.
3. I'm afraid that's a spoiler request. I don't give out spoilers.

I just wanted to write and just give you some thanks for some of the great shows you have helped create, Greg.
Young Justice I enjoyed thoroughly, though I am more a fan of the first season than the second; I like fewer characters and more characterization as opposed to detailed plots just as a personal preference. I will also say I was not a fan of how Wally West was handled but I am sure you have heard your share of them. I will just say that the Wally of the comics and the Wally of Young Justice seemed to be entirely different characters which seemed a shame to me, given all that could have been done with him. He had such a rich comic book history that I really do not understand why more was not done with it but that is your creative decision. Just not my cup of tea.
I adored your version of Dick Grayson however. He was competent without being overly skilled; he suffered under pressure but learned from what he was exposed to. His relationship with Wally in Season 1 was one of my all time favorites. Thanks for the great run!
Secondly, I could not write you without mentioning Gargoyles. I mean, wow. I think I was in fifth or sixth grade when I first caught it on the air. I just remember being deeply enthralled with it. I thought Elisa was an awesome character, as I did not see a whole lot of strong female leads back then and she was definitely that. I also adored the interesting family background you gave her. So often, characters fall into the stereotypical white, black, etc and she brilliantly avoided those.
I also firmly owe you thanks for igniting my interest in Shakespeare. I remember that I saw "City of Stone" when we were having to pick plays and such to read/analyze for school and after seeing that awesome four parter, I went right to my English teacher and asked if I could read MacBeth. It is still my favorite of the Bard's works.
The characterization of Demona was incredible. Most villains are so one dimensional but all the villains of Gargoyles were so well fleshed out. I am a creative writer myself and working on my first work to aim towards publication and I definitely count Gargoyles among my top inspiration for how to do characterization. To this day, I will tell people if they want to see a well fleshed out villain, go watch Demona from Gargoyles. I honestly would rank her about equal to Gollum from "Lord of the Rings." She can be diabolical, sneaky, cruel and yet you can totally see why she would have turned out that way and I can switch very easily from feeling such anger at her to feeling overwhelming pity. Bravo, my good Sir!

I just noticed Super-strength seemed to be the unluckiest power to have in Invasion.
Every power and those who didn't have it got to show off how cool and versatile their power was and those who didn't showed how they were on the team besides that which I really enjoyed. But people with super strength (Wonder Girl, Superboy) seemed to just be out of luck if their opponent was stronger than them and didn't have a real win under their belts all season compared to everyone else on the team.
Do you find Super-strength boring?

First of all, thank you, Brandon and the rest for making Young Justice. You guys have been the reason why I've started collecting DC titles instead of being a casual follower. Even Timm's DCAU couldn't do that.
You must probably have heard about the 'cancellation' of Beware the Batman. While it may have been too offbeat with awkward CGI, it was still a good show. And more importantly, a BATMAN show. Can't believe the state of DC tv animation is right now.
Is it possible for you or someone you know to talk to the DC guys so that they can create a DC nation channel, instead of being left to the whims of CN and toy sales?
I loved how you were able to create such a detailed universe in such a short time. Now that the New 52 is upon us and probably can be expected to last for the next decade or so, before the next 'Crisis', you guys need to pitch a new DCAU!
I'm fully confident that you can be a great showrunner (or overlord, if you prefer that term) to such a combined show universe. Timm did an excellent job but he barely made a scratch on DC's potentially huge cast.
One of my main grouses with YJ Season 2 is that we didn't see the team's growth during the 5 year period. Dick going from Robin to Nightwing, Connor-Megan's rift, Aqualad's 'betrayal' and the departure of Kid Flash and Artemis - all would have been better served if Season 2 was a Season 5 thing. You guys deserved to tell the entire story.
So, my question is: could you guys handle it? Would you be able to create an entire 'DC universe' (I know you can, but hearing it would feel great!) and if DC becomes sane again, would you do it after what they and CN did to YJ?

1. That's way above my pay grade. I'm sure the idea has been floated on various occasions.
2. We did already. It was called Young Justice. It was called Earth-16. Brandon and I on the television side and Chris and I on the comics side made numerous pitches to keep the show going in various forms. All were given a pass by CN, WB & DC. But if they were willing, we'd all eagerly return to the property.
3. Rain of the Ghosts is, frankly, NOT doing really well. It and Spirits of Ash and Foam could use more readers, reviewers, buyers and people helping to spread the word.

I don't think I made myself clear in my previous post. I honestly didn't have a distaste for the show's version of Wally West from strictly a character standpoint (personality/behavior/etc) aside from him continuing to sit things out after the end of "Darkest" (which I thought took the heroic aspect away from his character). The character itself was likable and well rounded for the most part. More so than on other shows he has been a part of. I had absolutely no problems loving Wally on Young Justice. If I did, I wouldn't have bothered commenting in the first place, and most likely wouldn't have continued watching the show as I did. But just because a character is a "clear fan favorite" doesn't necessarily mean that the show's treatment of the character and/or their story always "worked" for those fans.
And I actually really liked the ideas that the show was presenting to me in regards to Wally. I mentioned that I was always a fan of Wally & Dick's friendship in the comics. I loved Artemis, and liked the idea of her and Wally together. And I thought Wally's inferiority to Barry (and later Bart) could have been interesting and meaningful. But I ended up thinking that the show's execution of those things was lacking.
I won't get into too much detail this time since I know we disagree, but I just never felt that Dick was ever shown to be a true and loyal friend to Wally on the show when it mattered. Nor do I think that Artemis was ever shown to like any of the things about him you mentioned in your breakdown of their relationship on the show itself. I just didn't feel there was any real substance when it came to their side of things. And if I don't buy that Wally's relationship with Artemis and his friendship with Dick was a mutual thing, then their treatment of him goes a completely different direction.
So things like the show saying that Wally needed and deserved to be with someone who was only shown to ridicule him, hit him, and generally tell him how awful he was unless he was propping her up ("Bereft" and "Insecurity") like it did in "Denial" was a big negative to me. As was Artemis singling him out as the reason she wouldn't tell the team about her family during her therapy session. It also makes Dick routinely going out of his way to make fun of Wally, sometimes even hitting on the points that Wally was supposed to be insecure about, seem incredibly cruel. And I don't mean to say that Wally was perfect at all when it came to these things on the show. But there were moments where I felt he acted like a true and loyal friend to Dick (like during their conversation in "Performance") when it mattered. And Wally practically gushed about how great Artemis was and stood up for her for the majority of "Insecurity" when she needed it. His side of things was balanced out in my opinion.
Also, I will admit that I'm clearly biased when it comes to how the show handled Wally's inferiority since the story of him becoming the Flash in the comics was always a big deal for me. So the show having him admit to being humiliated (when he needed Barry/Bart to carry him away from Neutron's blast because he wasn't fast enough on his own) and having Bart openly mock him ("Cause you don't have the Allen eye!") for not being on Barry/Bart's level in "Bloodlines" was hard to watch from that standpoint. And while I knew Wally was a goner the moment Bart showed up (Wally eventually disappearing for nearly half the season only reinforced that idea), I was hoping for at least a satisfying death. Instead, Wally was killed simply because he was the one speedster that didn't belong on the show. A fact that the show dedicated an entire episode to pounding home earlier in the season (in mostly a comedic fashion no less). It's just really hard to say that Wally was worthy of being part of the Flash legacy when the show does that. And I don't mean to say that there's anything wrong with not making Wally the Flash, but I felt the way the show handled it (humiliating/mocking/killing him simply for being an inferior speedster) ultimately disrespected a story that was very important to me and a character that I loved.

Okay, well, like you said: we disagree. I get that you didn't like how we handled things. (I got it some time ago.) But this just seems like more of the same to me. An interpretation without nuance.
I don't feel like we humiliated Wally at all. We mocked him, sure (in a good-natured way, I believe), but he mocked himself (in a self-deprecating comedic way), and he mocked others and others got mocked and good-natured mocking went on all around, and I see ZERO evidence that Wally got it any worse than anyone else.
I also don't see his lack of speed (relative to Bart and Barry) as being even vaguely relevant. Wally was MORE of a hero for fighting the good fight with less speed. From DAY ONE, Brandon and I saw his relatively contained powers as a BONUS for his character. From an action standpoint, writing and boarding for Barry and Bart was WAY more difficult, I can tell you that for sure. Wally was way more fun to choreograph and utilize in action.
I think you missed the entire point of "Bloodlines". Pretty much completely. Wally & Jay wind up saving Bart & Barry just as many times as Wally himself was saved. But your interpretation ignores that, because it doesn't fit your preconceived notion that he was being humiliated by Bart. Which is FLAT-OUT not the case. You also ignore the conversation that Bart and Wally have in "Summit," which indicates clearly how much Bart respects and admires Wally.
And frankly, as I've said before, Wally is my FAVORITE SPEEDSTER. With Jay in second, Barry third and Bart fourth. So the notion that we disrespected Mr. West is just flat out untrue, whether or not you like how we handled him.
We believe Dick loved Wally as a friend. We believe Artemis loved Wally dearly and with all her heart. We believe that M'gann, Zatanna, Conner, Kaldur and all the rest, cared for and valued Wally. We think we showed that Bart and Barry and Artemis and Dick and Wally's parents and the others were devastated by his HEROIC SACRIFICE. And we do see that death as being an Heroic Sacrifice, not at taking place "because he was the one speedster that didn't belong on the show." I don't even know what that means. Wally, who was safely up on the Watchtower, joined the other two of his own free will. And carried on right through to the end, despite the fact that he KNEW it meant his end. Choosing to view his death in any other light is frankly mind-boggling to me.
But, AGAIN, I'm not trying to change your mind, because it's way beyond clear that I can't. And you're clearly not going to change mine. So can we just let it drop now, please? We're just going in circles.

I have to admit I'm a little confused about the explanation as to why Wally wasn't helping out for most of the alien invasion during the second season of Young Justice. You say it was because Dick told him what to do, but didn't Dick take a shot at him for not helping out in "Darkest" when he told Wally that all he cared about was his 'stupid souvenirs'? I mean, it was clear that Wally didn't want anything to do with the hero life anymore. He did nothing but complain when he helped out in "Bloodlines". He was adamant about leaving 'the life' behind in "Depths". He told Bart that he and Artemis were planning to go right back into retirement in "Summit" without even talking it over with Artemis. If it didn't have to do with Artemis or his family, he appeared to want no part of it.
Of course there's nothing wrong with wanting to retire. But I thought it was clear that Dick resented Wally on some level for doing so based on that comment. But if Dick was the reason Wally wasn't helping out with the invasion, then Dick telling Wally that he only cares about his souvenirs makes absolutely no sense to me. Dick interrupted Wally's life knowing that he and Artemis were trying to leave the hero business behind. He just allowed Wally's little cousin to be kidnapped for torture. And he nearly got Conner killed in the process. So how can he have the nerve to tell Wally that he only cares about his souvenirs after all that if he's responsible for Wally not helping out in the first place? And for that matter, how does Dick continue to have complete authority over what Wally can and can't do with his life after that?
Also, I don't see why Wally had to play the part of the "mourning boyfriend" for months to make Artemis' death believable during an alien invasion when Artemis was shown to have moved on with her life and rejoined the team two weeks after Wally died. Were we supposed to believe that Wally was incapable of doing that? Even during a time when the fate of the world literally hung in the balance?
Really, I don't see any believable explanation for Wally not helping out besides him simply not wanting to do that. But you've mentioned multiple times that that was not the case. So it seems like you guys just didn't want to use Wally (or couldn't find a way to fit him in) as it didn't make any sense from either a story or character standpoint that he wouldn't help out.

In "Darkest," Dick takes a "shot" at Wally out of defensiveness and insecurity. He KNOWS Wally doesn't give a damn (in this context) about his souvenirs. He KNOWS this. And Dick doesn't resent Wally. Dick's simply unsure of his own position, of his own plans with Kaldur, so he lashes out at the person who's confronting him with fears he already has.
Dick doesn't have complete authority over Wally. Never did. But Dick is in charge of the Team, and Wally respects that. If Dick felt (rightly or wrongly) that Wally needs to hang back for now, maintaining the notion that he's out of the game - and maintaining his distance from Artemis/Tigress, then Wally will respect that, especially since there's not much he can do to help otherwise, beyond simply being another hero, something they have no shortage of. Dick is intentionally holding Wally in reserve for when he's needed and when his appearance will catch the bad guys off guard. See "Summit." (And, yes, Dick is also somewhat nervous about Wally coming into contact with an undercover Tigress, as he's not sure how either would deal with that situation. You can argue that Dick worries too much. But not that Dick doesn't respect his BEST FRIEND.)
As for Wally, in my mind, he's hardly adamant about staying in retirement, he's simply trying very hard to stick with a resolution that BOTH he and Artemis made. He knows - as Artemis knows - how seductive the hero life is. So he's trying very hard to be strong. Sure, in "Bloodlines" he has some attitude about Impulse, certainly, but he absolutely is NOT complaining through the whole episode. And he doesn't bitch about being called in by Nightwing AT ALL. NOT ONCE.
In "Summit," he does tell Bart that he and Artemis will retire again, because he's assuming that's what they both want. It had been a long, hard decision for both to decide to retire. He's simply trying to abide by that decision. But one look at how he behaves when he's back in costume in "Bloodlines," "Summit" or "Endgame" shows that he's far from absolute over the issue. And a conversation with her could have swayed him, as is fairly obvious in "Endgame" even without the dialogue we trimmed out where he flat out states that maybe they could both start being heroes again. (NOTE: We cut that dialogue both for time and because it seemed to big a clue that one of them was going to die.)
This notion that he only cares about Artemis and his family is given the lie in "Darkest" when his concern isn't simply for Artemis, but for everyone who was either captured or nearly died in the cave.
And just to be clear: we DID want to use Wally. And I think we've proven over and over that we know how to "fit" Wally in. I have to say, it seems to me that you're interpreting events (and qualifying them) to suit your already existing interpretation instead of the other way around. Certainly, nothing you've argued has brought me over to your way of thinking. I just don't agree with you at all. You may not buy my explanations. Fine. But I don't buy your arguments either. They seem to lack any nuance whatsoever, taking everything presented at mere surface value and as an absolute. That was never our intent. We wanted the audience to read between the lines. Many members of our audience did. Though, of course, at least a few did not.
In any case, I am WAY tired of this topic. I keep addressing it here at ASK GREG over and over to the same two or three individuals. So let's just agree to disagree. You didn't like how we handled certain aspects of the show. I can accept that. But there's no point in continuing this discussion. Neither of us seem likely to convince the other.

2) In the comics, Slade was given superhuman abilities (healing factor, enhanced speed, strength, etc.). Is this true for Earth-16's version as well?
3) Sportsmaster was on a first-name basis with Slade. How long have they known each other?

This is something that I have been wondering since the reveal of Lex Luthor's involvement in the creation of Superboy. I have not been able to find the answer in the show, though perhaps it has been asked before.
Does Superman know that Superboy has both his DNA and that of Lex? If so, when did he find out?
I imagine it would only futher complicate the relationship between Superman and Superboy, though they seem to be on friendly terms in season 2, which leads me to wonder if he even knows.

1. I don't think I've worked that out precisely.
2. Um... he liked the look?
3. Nightwing, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian, Artemis, Zatanna, Rocket, Tempest, Aquagirl and Troia were all members when Jason joined. I'm sure Red Arrow probably met him at some point too. Though I know the general time period, I have not yet nailed down the exact date of his death, so depending on that, it's at least possible that Lieutenant Marvel, Sergeant Marvel and even Batgirl and Bumblebee knew him too. But maybe not.
4. Okay, (a), who says they didn't try? And (b), who says they haven't held that out as an option for later? Or, given that they had info on multiple heroes, maybe both. Keep in mind that Ra's has known Batman's secret identity for some time, and has chosen not to use that information against Batman. And keep in mind, that the Light often uses the heroes as pawns in their plans. Destroying their lives is only useful if it's useful. The Light isn't out to GET the heroes. That's not their raison d'etre.
5. The Reach did a slow take over using multiple tools, (including the Reach drink and others), until the Earth in essence put them in charge. At which point, things sped up considerably, and the Reach murdered and enslaved the populace and stripped Earth's resources, etc.

Hello from Australia. I have been eagerly waiting for questions to open again.
I'm a 26 year old female, who has been an avid fan of DC comics for a long time now. I've read all of Teen Titans, The Flash (Wally west run), Justice league, and basically any tie in I could find that included Wally West.
I was really saddened when finding out West was no longer part of DC (although, looks like I don't have to suffer any longer). Your show was the perfect way for me to revisit the reasons I love DC so much.
I think my favourite part of the show is it's incredible maturity. I have read people complain about the way Wally and Dick have dealt with things (particularly, their argument) but, honestly, I saw it as a very adult conversation. Adult, obviously doesn't mean mature (what adults can say they are always logical and mature?), but what I mean is, I could see this as a real conversation that people would have. I love the complexity of the characters and just how real everything is. This was a show I could watch, analyse and really enjoy.
I also think it was so great that you didn't follow the pairings of the comics. Again, people have complained about this, but honestly, who wants to watch something, knowing already what's going to happen? Why would I bother reading a novel, watching a movie, or a tv show, if I already knew half of what was going to eventuate? I also thought the pairings made sense, and the complexities of them brought real issues of identity and what a relationship means, to the table.
I think kids these days need shows like this that are real and mature and don't treat kids as stupid.
Anyway, no questions for you this time! I really see nothing from the show that needs questioning! Just praise!

1. I really don't remember. Most of it was probably trimmed out at the storyboard stage, as we were already too long.
2. Honestly, I didn't work most of them out. Figure a nice global spread.

How did two non-powered individuals, Red Arrow & Cheshire, find Roy so easily when the entire Justice Laegue, who have amongst them: the greatest detective in the world, an extreamly powerful telepath, someone who can run arround the world in a matter of hours, someone
w/x-ray vision, and one of the most powerful magical beings in the

With aceess to these resources it should have been a simple task, seeing as Roy was kind of just sitting out in the open, not even under any kind of cloaking technology, spell, etc.
Cheshire implied that she looked where heroes wouldnt...but where would heroes not look? And why would they pass-over Tibet in there search?

If your assumption is that Flash, etc. literally searched every cubic meter of the planet, they didn't. And Batman's a detective, but Cheshire - as one of the bad guys - still had access to intel he couldn't ferret out. Being the Greatest Detective doesn't automatically make you omniscient. Even magic has its limitations when a frozen Roy gives off virtually no life signs.
Ultimately, if you don't buy it, you don't buy it. But we felt it made sense.

Some questions about the "Players" arc.
1: Where was Match being kept before he broke free? It seems to be Lex Corp, but since the forcefield is a sphere and it didn't cut off any buildings, wouldn't that make Lex Corp's basement half a mile deep?
2: What are the qualifications for having a Twelth Level Intellect?
3: Where does the average Earthling fit on this scale of intellects?
4: Can The Flash really move at Light Speed (or anything near it)? I mean, Light Speed is enough to traverse the globe in a second. And considering his confidence about moving Neutro in Bloodlines he can definitely maneuver just fine at extremely high speeds. But unless his opponents are moving at thousands of miles per second, wouldn't they be standing still to the Flash? His opponents aren't nearly that fast. For just one example, Wally is one of the fastest characters in the show and it still took him hours to cross a country.
5: Could you try to help me understand Brainiac's rationale for leaving earth? There were two main reasons presented. 1: His forcefield was taken out. 2: Seeing Superman assured him that even doomed worlds have a chance of not being totally lost. But I don't think either of these reasons are valid.
1: Wouldn't Brainiac carry more than 1 Forcefield generator? They're fairly small compared to his ship, I don't see why not.
2: How does a single citizen of Krypton surviving its destruction invalidate Brainiac's efforts to preserve Earth? Superman seems to know next to nothing about Krypton, meaning he's nothing more than a single living speciman. Brainiac certainly seemed to want more than single specimans of each race, and he didn't even take Superman with him. Also Superman will be dead in a few decades, so wouldn't whatever preservation of Krypton his survival amounted to be negated? I also find it hard to believe that Brainiac's "Twelth Level Intelligence" failed to anticipate that a world which presumably had spaceships might have managed to save some of its people.
It's not like Brainiac was listening to The Team before, and he still seemed to have the upper hand, so why did Brainiac agree to their request?

2. I'm not smart enough to know. But I'm sure the Collector has his criteria.
3. I think that's part of DC lore, but honestly I forget. I'd have to research it.
4. Flash is exponentially faster than Kid Flash. He can run at speeds approaching the Speed of Light. Kid Flash can only run at speeds approaching the Speed of Sound. It's a HUGE difference.
5. The first reason you give is immaterial. But I think the second reason is valid enough, given the unusual resistance he was meeting. It caused him to rethink his entire raison d'etre.

1) How does parental consent work with underage members of the Team/League (I know it was briefly mentioned in the tie-in comics)?
2) Now that the Team is lead by its senior members, is it their job to recruit new members (and do things like getting parental consent, doing background checks, ect...), or is that the league's responsibility? Or is it kind of a mutual consent thing between the Team leader and League leader?

1. It's pretty straighforward. A parent (or legal guardian) need to approve the inclusion of any new member.
2. It became one of Nightwing's responsibilities - said responsibility falling to Aqualad and Batgirl as of the end of Season Two. Which is not to say that Leaguers might not get involved. Depends how much reassurance a parent or legal guardian requires.

1. Did Cheshire immediately accept Roy after he decided to "throw the fight"? Roy mentions working together in the next entry, but I was just wondering if he had to do much to gain her trust, or if she was already able to trust him.

Superboy has M'gann. Not to mention both Wolf and Sphere. And, frankly, I think you're stretching things to make your point. I think Wonder Girl and Batgirl are friends, for example, but there's nothing you've seen that would indicate that they are best friends. (Not saying they're not, just stating the realities of what we presented on screen.) Likewise, you've left out a number of characters that one could argue have less to show best friend wise than Superboy does.

I don't think he is a womanizer, at least not in the traditional sense that most people use that word. He doesn't lie about who he's with. He's been exclusive for periods of time. He's never cheated on any girl. He always calls the next day. Etc.
Dick has tremendous respect for women, in my opinion. And that respect makes him interested in many women for each one's very different qualities. And that fundamental respect (alongside his other attributes) makes him extremely attractive to a diverse group of powerful women, who know he's secure enough not to require them to be 'less powerful' when dating him.
Also keep in mind, he's still pretty darn young. Should he really be settled down by age 19? I just don't think he's quite ready to settle down, and obviously Barbara agrees.
As for why we made that creative choice, given his history, it just seemed right for the character.

For the record, I listened to the clip but not the entire podcast. So if I missed out on some important context, I apologize.
I agree with a lot of what was said, but I don't agree that the executives didn't want girls to watch. (And I'm not really sure that's exactly what was being said, though that's the way it's been reported on that internet thing.) The target audience for Young Justice was ALWAYS Boys 6-11. If we ALSO got girls that was fine. If we got older kids, tweens, teens and adults, that was fine. If we got younger kids, that was fine.
But we had to hit the target: Boys 6-11. And we did to some extent, but not enough to compensate for the loss of our toy line. Anyone who says the show was cancelled because too many people (of any specific demographic) were watching us, is, I think, grasping at straws. It's not that too many were watching, it's that NOT ENOUGH were watching in our target demographic. Even then, if the toys had sold, we would have been fine. But the toy line was cancelled, which took away our financing for the series. And that was that.

Shortly after Ask Greg Live, you revealed that Donna Troy had been a leading candidate for Team membership at a very early stage in the development of the show - I was wondering if you could please list a few others who were serious contenders for a spot on the season 1 main cast but didn't make the cut?

As I've stated before, there was a list of over fifty teen DC heroes, all of whom were considered, at least briefly.
We then cut that list down considerably to more or less the folks that became members of the Team that you saw in Season One: i.e. Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian, Speedy/Red Arrow, Artemis, Zatanna and Rocket.
Others that were briefly considered for the final cut include, as I recall, Donna, Garth, Mary and Cissie. But Donna was declared off-limits (at that time). Kaldur replaced Garth. Artemis' backstory offered us more interesting secrets than Cissie's might have, and three archers (Artemis, Roy and Oliver) seemed like plenty to start with in one series. Finally, our developing plans for Captain Marvel in Season One worked better if Mary was not yet part of the equation.
As planned, Garth guest-starred (and had a nice role in Legacy). And we managed to slip a Cissie cameo in, with bigger plans for her later, if we had gotten more seasons/episodes/issues. We had planned to include Mary and Donna in Season Two, but as I've already discussed, Phil Bourassa just didn't have time to design them both for the sake of a couple cameo appearances. We had more plans for both of those characters, as well, but never got the opportunity.
Heck, we had eventual plans for nearly everyone on the original list of fifty-plus.

1. Honestly, to this day, I have no idea what the deal was with that. Don't know why they forced us to remove Icon and Rocket from the story. Don't know why he now appears.
2. I think you're misinterpreting the art (or I'm misinterpreting your question). They are lying unconscious ON the sphere. They're trapped within its volume, but they're not stuck in their energy, and nothing is glued to anything. They're not moving because they're unconscious. When the sphere shrinks, they'll shrink with it.

I bought the final volume of the "Young Justice" trade paperback series today, and thought I'd give you a brief review of it.
I remember some of your viewers commenting on a map of Bialya in the second season and wondering whether it had annexed Qurac during the time-skip. The "Year Five" scenes suggest that they weren't so far from the truth.
Liked Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen's cameos.
One of my favorite moments: Nightwing figuring out how to get a message to the teammates in Metropolis, based on sight being the one form of communication between Metropolis and the world outside that wasn't blocked.
I noticed seeds for a potential future story with the revelation that Kylstar has plans for galactic conquest in order to defeat the enslavers of his people. I think the problem that quite a few people have, myself included, with Wally's character/story on Young Justice might stem from the fact that he was the 'normal' one amongst the members of the original team. And on a show that at it's core is built around angst and drama, the normal characters tend to get lost in the shuffle since they don't come with built-in storylines like a character with a criminal family/background (Artemis and Kaldur), leadership issues (Kaldur and Dick), an inferior clone made by the enemy (Superboy), or a Martian used to discrimination living on Earth. They're just harder to fit into the story of the show. So it's much more important to their characters for the show to create an emotional connection to the audience and develop some meaningful relationships for that character to make them relevant to the show at large. And that's where I think the show failed as far as Wally was concerned.
For instance, you've said that Wally was a very insecure person during the first season and one of the big reasons why you paired him with Artemis. But out of all the members of the team, he always struck me as being the only one that wasn't insecure about who he was, or his role on the team. He was never shown to be bothered by his inferiority to Barry in season one, and even a good portion of the fandom didn't even know Barry was faster until BLOODLINES in season two. In fact, it was Conner who got the inferiority to the mentor storyline fleshed out in season one. And it was never said that Barry didn't originally want him to be his sidekick on the show. Plus the only insecurity he showed with girls was with Artemis. But that was more of a by product of him thinking she hated him because he was a jerk to her when she joined the team, not because he was insecure about who he was. So the show never really established him as an insecure character during the first season. He just came across as an idiot and an occasional selfish jerk simply because he was an idiot and an occasional selfish jerk; not because he was trying to overcompensate for his insecurity because of that.
And it's more of the same in the second season. Wally had became a completely different character between seasons and the only explanation the show gives is basically time-skip happened. I mean, Wally nearly killed himself just to become a hero and absolutely loved being one throughout the first season despite everything that happened. He also was pretty much supportive of his friends no matter what during that season, too. But during season two, Wally wanted absolutely nothing to do with being a hero and was accusing friends of being traitors and blaming them for trying to stop an alien invasion that he couldn't care less about for the majority of the season. It's like the show tossed away whatever previous characterization he had to justify his retirement and get him out of the way before reverting him back to something much closer to his previous characterization in the final two episodes. Which is why I found it a little hard to use Wally's previous characterization during the first season to defend his character in season two when he's not even close to being the same character. And I don't mean to say it's impossible that he could change that much over the gap, but it's such a drastic change that I think it deserved some sort of in-universe explanation.
Another thing I'd like to mention is that you said that Wally's 'humanity' was what you liked most about his character, but I'd say that that was the biggest flaw that this version of Wally West had. I mean, one of the things I've always loved about Wally in the comics and on other shows is that he would normally do the right thing simply because it was the right thing to do. That was missing with the Wally on Young Justice to me. Everything was always about him and what he wanted. Sure, he'd say some nice things to his friends on occasion, but he was the guy that would basically throw an inner-fit at the thought of saving a little girl's life instead of working on another mission with the League. And whatever development he was suppose to get from COLDHEARTED didn't seem to stick or didn't happen as he was practically thrilled that someone got kidnapped simply because he was bored at the beginning of the Young Justice video game. And Wally sitting out the majority of an alien invasion where things get worse and worse goes against everything I've ever loved about him over the years, and the scene at the end of DARKEST pretty much destroyed the character for me. The only times he was shown to help out was when the situation suited his interest, such as retrieving Artemis in SUMMIT, or helping out his family in BLOODLINES and ENDGAME. If the situation didn't have something directly to do with him, he couldn't be bothered to help and that's just not Wally West in my opinion.
As for his relationships, I think the issue for me was how unbalanced they seemed to be. I mean, I can appreciate the slow build and subtlety the show did with building up Artemis' side of their relationship; though I did think the show relied a little too heavily on telling us that they were going to get together in an effort to make her small moments such as asking about his parents in MISPLACED or making the sling for his arm to mean more than they really did. The problem is that the show basically punched me in the face with Wally's side of the relationship in contrast. The show pretty much shouted that he should get together with Artemis in DENIAL, he had an entire episode in FAILSAFE where she's almost all he could think about, was basically her number one fan for the majority of INSECURITY, and was shown to do nothing but worry about her in season two. Artemis never had anything remotely close to those type of things during the two seasons while he was alive. That's because Artemis had a lot going on besides Wally, as she had her family/trust issues, being a mole suspect, and the undercover mission. Where as with Wally being the normal one, the show made Artemis his thing and smashed us over the head with it. That's why I always preferred the M'gann/Conner relationship despite never being big fans of their characters since neither side dominated their relationship. It was balanced. It never felt like one of them was way more committed to the other like it did with Wally and Artemis. And like a previous poster before me mentioned, I think his friendship with Dick was handled in a similar way. It's why their reactions to his death fell completely flat and contrived to me because Wally wasn't really ever shown to be as important to them as they made him out to be after he died. And as a character, Wally got very little out of those relationships himself.
And like most of the 'normal' characters, Wally was killed off because there's only so much a show feels they can do with them. You guys milked about as much drama/angst you could get out of his relationship with Artemis over the two seasons and because of that, Wally was no longer useful to the show because he didn't bring any drama/angst as his own character. In essence, as a standalone character he had no real story of his own and that made him an expendable character.
Unfortunately, it just seemed like the majority of the things that made Wally tick and were important to his character would seem to have been left out of the show for the most part. And I'd say that he's the only one out of the main cast of either season that was handled that way. It's why while I normally enjoy Wally in the comics and other shows (I loved him and Jay/Barry in the episode "Requiem for a Scarlet Speedster!" that you wrote for Batman: The Brave and the Bold, by the way), I had a hard time getting invested into his character on Young Justice. And the Wally you talk about here and the Wally that was on the show just seem like two completely different characters to me.

Well, to some extent, I'll grant that there were things about Wally we didn't spell out as clearly as we might have in the series, though if you were also reading our companion comics, Wally's insecurity about his relationship to Barry would be hard to miss. But I'll also grant that you shouldn't have to read the comics to enjoy the series.
But I think we painted Wally consistently. His insecurity is there to see, certainly in "Infiltrator" and other episodes. We might not have stated it, hammered the nail on the head, so to speak, but I'm confident it's there. If you chose to see him as an idiot and selfish jerk, I can't stop you. But Brandon and I thought the insecurity was pretty clear. Clear enough that we were afraid we overdid it. Perhaps we were wrong. But I still don't think so, and the fact that a handful of fans disagree with me isn't exactly changing my mind. That's neither meant as a criticism of you or any other fans. Nor am I simply being defensive. In the end, all I can do is trust my own creative judgement (and that of my partners in crime - in this case Brandon Vietti), for better or for worse. If that judgement is faulty - and again, I'll grant that it could very well be - that doesn't change anything. Because if I start second-guessing myself all the time, the work, I'm sure, would suffer. In general, I think my instincts are decent, and the proof of that, I believe, is that most fans seem to respond positively - both to Wally and to the show in general. Doesn't make me right, of course, but what other recourse do I have?
As for some of your analysis, I believe you are choosing to interpret Wally in the most negative light possible, and that's certainly not how we saw him, and given the extremely vocal love for our version of the character expressed by a vast majority of fans, I will once again suggest that we simply agree to disagree. I'm not going to convince you. You're not going to convince me.
Having said all of the above, I still appreciate your post and your point of view. And who knows? Everything I read gets absorbed into my brain and tossed around into the mix. Maybe a Star Wars Rebels character will benefit from your words.

Hey Greg, longtime Fan here. I watched "Gargoyles" as a Kid. And me and my Brother loved both "Spectacular Spider-Man" & "Young Justice"! I'm so pissed that they both got cancelled before they could get Third Seasons, I have no doubt they would've gotten even better. Nevertheless my most sincere thanks goes out to you and all the very talented people that brought us these shows. Here are a few "Young Justice" Related things that I wanted to bring up.
1. Deathstroke was AWESOME!!! His Design and Wentworth Miller's Performance were both Great.
2. Have you checked out the Game "Injustice: Gods Among Us"? I applaud their decision to hire several Actors from "YJ" to reprise their Roles. Hearing Alan Tudyk and Mark Rolston as Green Arrow & Luthor again, and in a Fighting Game no less, is just great.
3. Keith David as Mongul? Total WIN! I knew you would work him in somehow.
4. I just noticed that "Denial" is a partial "Gargoyles" Reunion! It had Ed Asner(Kent Nelson/Hudson), Jeff Bennett(Brooklyn/Abra Kadabra) & Thom Adcox-Hernandez(Lexington/Klarion)!!! It reminded me I should watch Gargoyles more often nowadays.

1. When Beast Boy transforms into an animal, say an exact replica of Wolf(except green of course), is he able to communicate with the animal?
2. Basing it off that out of ALL the characters, especially in the Team, Superboy has had the most interactions and seems to have taken the most interest in Apokolipse tech throughout season 1 and 2, is it safe assume that he would have had a considerable role in season 3? just going by that logic.
3.Since Superboy is pretty darn indestructible is it safe to say that the best and simplest way to kill him is by drowning him?

5.In your continuity is it possible for a Green Lantern, whether Hal, John, or even Guy, to take down Superman if the situation called for it.

Why did Tye's eyes change from brown to blue? Was it due to the Reach's testing? I checked the episodes to see if it was a mistake, but before he was captured he had brown eyes and after he had blue in all of his appearances.

I never noticed. You'd have to double-check with Brandon Vietti to see if this was intentional or an accident. If it was the former, the reason was his. If it was the latter, then we could come up with an in-universe justification for it - like the one you suggest above.

My favorite character in the show is Artemis, she really struck me in season 1 and her tenure as Tigress in Season 2 was really impressive. So I would like to ask a few questions about her.
1) What served as your inspiration for creating her?
2) Are any of her character traits inspired by strong female characters from other sources? Cos I noticed that she was rather similar to some of my other favorite ladies, such as Katniss Everdeen from Hunger Games, Eponine from Les Miserables, Mulan, Ravager (Deathstroke's daughter), to name a few.
3) How abusive was Sportsmaster? Cos I figured he had to be pretty bad to his girls for Jade to pack up and abandon her younger sister.
4) Unrelated but... Will YJ be translated into Chinese? I'm ethnic Chinese and I would love to know their Chinese names.

2. Well, I'm not familiar with Katniss. I mean, obviously, I've heard of her, but I haven't read the books or seen the movies. I'm only passingly familiar with Ravager, though we had plans for her in YJ, given enough seasons. I would have done more research on her before bringing her in, of course. I don't really see much Mulan in Artemis, other than the fairly generic notion of a woman in combat. So that just leaves Eponine. And I can indeed see a bit of Eponine in Artemis. But if so, I wasn't conscious of the influence at the time.
3. He was emotionally and verbally abusive. He was not sexually abusive. It's debatable whether or not you'd consider him physically abusive. He didn't beat them. But he did endless combat drills with them, and they took punishment from him. Given that he was a full-grown man and they were young girls, it's absolutely fair to say he was physically abusive.
4. No idea.

1) Out of curiosity, if you could have included Troia and Sergeant Marvel in the crowd shot in "Endgame", who would you have paired each of them with in the subsequent scramble for the MFDs? I know that this would likely necessitate a 'reshuffle' of the pairings you came up with for the final episode, since say pairing Troia with Superboy would leave Wolf wanting a partner, but ignoring that, who would you have ideally paired with Donna and who would you have ideally paired with Mary for the team-ups?
2) When you and Brandon Vietti were developing Young Justice, were you 'for' the possibility of having an even number of male and female leads in season 1 or did you set out to have slightly more male leads than female leads? Basically, what I'm asking is whether you were at all interested in the prospect of having 3 male leads and 3 female leads instead of 4 male leads and 2 female leads.
3) Why did Nightwing and company allow Mal to join the Team as Guardian? I guess one could argue that it was because he proved his worth by helping against Despero, but since his sole contribution in that fight was to stall for time, I'm wondering why Nightwing and company felt he was Team material?
4) What was the in-universe reason for Donna not being available/ready to join the Team at the end of "Fireworks"? We know why Garth and Roy couldn't (since Kaldur took Garth's place as Aqualad and Roy was replaced by a certain angsty clone), but what about Donna?
5) I noticed Tempest in the crowd shot in "Endgame". What has he been up to since leaving the Team i.e. what's his occupation now?

Hi Greg! A few YJ questions:
1) If Little Orbit make another Young Justice game and start discussing potential DLC characters, do you think you might entertain the idea of including Troia and Sergeant Marvel as DLC characters? If the show and the comic don't come back, the games made by Little Orbit might be the fans' only chance of seeing them, even if they're just thrown in there for non-canon fun like Bumblebee, Lagoon Boy, Blue Beetle and Wonder Girl were for Legacy. I realise it's probably not your call as you're not an employee of Little Orbit, but maybe this is something you could suggest to them if they get in touch again please?
2)Just out of curiousity, why did you opt to put Troia in the 'Junior' class, when the other original Titans from the comic (i.e. Dick, Wally, Garth) made it to the 'Senior' class'? Having Jason Todd, the Marvels, Batgirl etc. as 'Juniors' makes sense to me, but Donna's a bit more iconic due to her comic book counterpart's affiliation with the founding Titans, so I was just wondering what the rationale was for not having her make it past 'Junior' level.
3a) Why wasn't Donna Troy used in the companion comic book, once it became clear that you wouldn't be using her in season 2?
3b) Did you consider including her in any issues?
4) With Troia and Sergeant Marvel originally planned to be included in the bridal shower scene, I wondered if we would have heard Mary say, "Shazam!", to shatter the ice that Captain Cold had formed around them? Was it planned for her to say that, either before or after Zatanna's 'garb us for battle' spell, had she been in the scene?
5) I read online that the reason for Lieutenant Marvel and Sergeant Marvel not being on the Team in season 2, from what you said at Wondercon, is that there wasn't enough room for their story arc. My question is, since Batgirl, Beast Boy, Robin and Wonder Girl didn't have arcs in season 2 but were included nonetheless, why didn't you keep the Marvels around in minor roles too?

1. It all depends on content, I would think. But I'm not opposed to the idea, especially as fun DLC extras. The problem is that those characters were never designed. And we'd all want Phil Bourassa to design them in collaboration with Brandon Vietti. Or maybe Chris Jones or Jerome Moore in collaboration with Phil and Brandon. In any case, I'm happy to make the suggestion, if and when.
2. The fact is, as I've said many times before, both Wonder Girls (Donna and Cassie) were off-limits to us when production began. By the time they got ON-limits, it was too late to include Donna in Season One. So she became a "Junior", so to speak, by default.
3a. Well, keep in mind, that didn't become clear until partway through production. We had planned to use her in two episodes (208 and 220) of Season Two until it just became a production impossibility. Anyway, had the comic continued - or the series for that matter - we would have definitely have introduced her. But both ended before we had the chance.
3b. None that came out. But we have plenty of stories.
4. She would have said "Shazam!"
5. Weren't we already crowded enough?

Just played the YJ Legacy.
Collected 3 Red Arrow journals.
Then a strange question came to me.
As player we can see the journal content by the computer in the Cave.
But in fact, I mean the team's fact, do they really find some Red Arrow's journals and read it?
Or they didn't really got some journal in the missions. The journals can only be seen by Player. As some player reward?
I asked this because that would be a bit weird if the team really read the journals of Red Arrow and still did nothing to help their friend. And also Red Arrow would be careless to put his digital journal every where.
Anyway, I like the idea of Red Arrow Journal.
I would like to get more and more side story about some sub characters in this show, in any way.

I don't think the Team read the Journals. They are a treat for the audience/player. And the entries themselves are canon. But they were never assumed to be read by members of the Team or the League.
But the notion that the Team and League didn't try to help Roy is clearly false. You saw one of their efforts on screen in the series.

Did any one from the team talk to wally when aretmis died or did he intentionally avoid everyone?
5. Is devastation a clone of someone else?

4. Others expressed sympathy, of course. He did steer clear to some degree. As for whether it was convincing, we thought so. Some did not, obviously.

I forgot to include one other question in my previous ask about why Dick felt that Wally needed to stay home to prevent people from thinking Artemis was alive, and that was the Bad Guys--if he wasn't actually worried about the Team, wouldn't the Bad Guys also understand the need for "revenge" or at least "vengeance"? Sportsmaster and Cheshire went after the people who "killed" Artemis first thing. :)
So given his response in FAILSAFE, I don't know ... it just seems like it would make more sense he'd want to actively help defeat the Light rather than stay home.

Questions on the zeta shield. It first appeared in Salvage, to block zeta trafficking to earth; and according to L'gann others that want to later zeta off world need permission to do so.
In Endgame, we see Adam Strange, Conner, and M'gann go to Rimbor through zeta beams according to Conner.
To Zeta off world in Endgame did they have to shut down the zeta shield, or is there some sort of override code that allows those such as Strange to bypass it?
I'm thinking the former, why bother having La'gann give us this exposition in the first place then.
If they had to shut it down temporarily when did they get it back up that day. Did they turn it back on shortly after they were done with the MFD's?
Does Rimbor have a zeta port/tube on Rimbor, or is Rann not far from the planet Rimbor?

1. The shield has to be taken off-line briefly for people to zeta on or off-world.
2. They shut it down for the trio to leave and then turned the shield back on. When they received a signal that the trio were ready to return, they briefly shut the shield down and turned it back on again when they were safely back.
3. You know, I remember figuring this out back in the day, but for the life of me, I can't quite recall what we came up with. But Rann is clearly in the same basic area of space as Rimbor. That much we established.
